A powerful earthquake occurred just off the coast of central Chile during Wednesday evening local time and has produced a tsunami over the Pacific
basin.
The quake is the third most powerful earthquake in five years to strike the South America nation.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake registered magnitude 8.3, at 7:54 p.m. local time (4 p.m. PDT) on Wednesday.
The quake lasted for approximately three minutes.

Latin America is one region of the world known for its similarities across national borders, paired with stark differences. While Latin American
countries share cultural elements such as, language, religion, and a colonial history, each society has developed differently in terms of political,

My Experience For A Student Leader For The Languages And...
Coming from a small town in the Appalachia Mountains of the Pennsylvania coal region, the only escape from the white homogeneity was my
language classes. When I came to Bucknell University, I was immediately intrigued with the multitude of foreign languages taught. Coming from a
blue collar family and being a first generation college student I felt an obligation to my parents, though, to choose a major that would offer financial
ease and stability. However, during my second semester I took classes intranslation and linguistics, and I realized I wanted to create my own academic
path.
I began college–level Spanish in my first semester, and French in my fourth. I have taken classes on translation, linguistics, and literature as well. With
Living in Tours, a less urban town, will enhance mylanguage acquisition because I expect fewer English speakers. I plan to take a personal language
pledge to avoid speaking English, unless it is unavoidable.
I will stay with a host family, which will add to my language and cultural immersion. Because the program asked, I indicated a preference for a host
family with a sibling my age who attends the UniversitГ© FranГ§ois Rabelais, where I will be studying along with the Institute de Touraine. The
sibling might introduce me to other students there. I will eat morning and evening meals daily with my host family. My goal is to integrate myself
thoughtfully with my host family to learn about family life and different social patterns.
I also chose France for its astonishingly deep and rich culture throughout the country. The "Bucknell en France" program explores a variety of regions
through regular excursions on alternating weekends with the in–residence faculty to local sites of interest, including cathedrals, abbeys and the famous
Loire chГўteaux. The excursions also include visits to different ateliers, or workshops, such as an oil mill, a chocolaterie, or a vannerie. Longer
excursions to national sites are also organized, including Paris, the Normandy Beaches, and the Perigord region. On weekends without excursions, I
plan to independently travel, perhaps with a friend, to various cultural events, such as an opera or La Foire Gastronomique in

The chile pepper is a vegetable that has been a part of Americas history. Chile peppers haave been a part of the human's diet for as long as 7500BC.
Chiles are used in many Mexican and South American cuisines as whole peppers and also grinded into spaces. In Jimmy Santiago Baca's poem
"Green Chile," he refers to green chiles to represent his memories of home. Jimmy Santiago Baca is a mix of Chicano and Apache origins. At the age

less than the rest of the stanzas. Baca uses personification to give the green chile human like attributes. "I can hear them talking in the wind,... tongues

(36–38). Baca use onomatopoeias, slurp and hiss, to emphasize the feeling of eating a well prepared meal.
