Banning Skinny Models Research Paper
They're Humans, Not Hangers
Is Banning Skinny Models the Solution to the Rising Amount of Eating Disorders?
Every year, hundreds of thousands of people tune in to watch Fashion Week runway shows from
around the world, with designers presenting new collections every season. From New York to
Milan, it is impossible to miss a controversial detail within the shows, the skeleton thin models
showcasing the designs. Not only are these models harming themselves in order to fit into the
industry's expectations, but they may also be setting a dangerous example for the public audience.
Because thin girls are constantly represented in the media, some believe that there is a correlation
between the rising rate of eating disorders and the size of the ... Show more content on

Psychologist Jane Callaghan expresses that a positive body image doesn't rely solely on the
comparisons to other girls (Callaghan). "Media images are only a tiny contributing factor"
(Callaghan) to the development of eating disorders. Other forces include a genetic predisposition to
the mental illness, low self esteem, and societal pressure (Mayo Clinic Staff). Callaghan explains
that the development of eating disorders often relies on one's attempt to "control" these external
forces (Callaghans). Understanding that there are factors affecting ones body image other than
media exposure, Callaghan argues that attacking these external forces, such as peer pressure and
societal misogyny, could be more effective than eliminating thin girls from the fashion industry,
seeing as how medias perpetual portrayal of thin girls is not the main cause for the rising rate of

Self-Esteem And Self Esteem
In a world where having friends is highly stressed, being perfect in academics, we are showing
future generations what's right and how they need to look and act. Young teenage girls have to
undergo the pressure of getting into a good college and being well–rounded. Added onto that they
must have confidence and a strong self esteem, along with other factors that will play into their
lives.
Everyday many girls under the age of 14 open up a form of social media and see pictures where
they find goals. This might be a picture of their friend where they look absolutely stunning. This
young girl will then check the comments and she'll see that everyone's telling her how beautiful her
friend is. Then after realizing that she has the exact same friends she goes to her own picture to see
if they commented on her post too. To her disappointment there's only five comments, 4 comment
are talking about homework and only one of them is telling her how pretty she is. Sadly, she thinks
yourself that she wished she were prettier and that she had more friends. Although she has the
highest GPA she still doesn't feel socially accepted, your role model is exactly like this. She is
someone who has great achievements but even greater beauty. This only leads you to ask yourself
do you like your role model for their achievements or for their beauty.
At the age from 12 Years to 18 years a girl's self–image is the world to her. This is the time when
she sees her friends wear make up and suddenly

Analysis Of Victoria's Secret Fashion Shows
Fashion shows, media influences, and the modeling industry has shaped our society to aspire to
physical features that are considered beautiful. Being a skinny, toned, and confident "it" girl has
been advertised extensively as perfect and desirable during our current time period. While this may
be considered a healthy fitness goal to achieve, companies publicize this value to an extreme in
hopes of raising sales. A business that is well known for the abuse of this ideal body image is
Victoria's Secret. Over the years, Victoria's Secret has promoted their models, better known as
Angels, who appear to be representing a very small portion of the population in terms of body
shape. This has become an intense debate amongst fans and critics, resulting in severe issues
regarding social media, health, and financial gains.
Natalie Reilly approached this topic after the 2017 Shanghai Victoria's Secret Fashion Show aired.
Reilly brings her article to attention when she specifically states that the ability to "strut, almost
naked, in spindly heels, is for a coterie of chosen models, the lingerie equivalent of winning an
Oscar" (2017). Additionally, Reilly claims that this modeling opportunity is "infused somehow with
the zealous pageantry of an ice–skating routine" (2017). While enthusiasts may beg to differ with
these "facts", Reilly makes a strong rationalization using the controversial post by plus–sized model,
Ashley Graham. Prior to the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, Graham made it clear that she had
finally got her Angel wings, dissing the business on her six–million followers platform. Graham's
testimony through the internet helps support Rielly's viewpoint by demonstrating that even top
models in the field disagree with the Angel image.
The issue of body image in relation to Victoria's Secret models could be better defined by the
impractical measurements which the models are required to maintain. Runway models strive to
achieve a 34–inch hip, 24–inch waist, and a 32–inch bust through extreme self–starvation. Popular
diets include the tapeworm diet, the cigarette diet, and the lemon cleanse diet. Another extreme case
of weight loss is the consumption of cotton balls to help attain a feeling of a full stomach

The Importance Of The Relevance Of The Data
The importance of the relevance of the data has been identified since the very early work in
context–aware ubiquitous systems. Despite of its importance few works have been carried out to
quantify the QoC and ensure the quality of the information on which the decisions and actions of
contextaware systems are based. Moreover, many decision support techniques are insufficient to
address the runtime uncertainty in the context information as they do not assess the QoC in an end–
to–end fashion. We formulate the related work into two parts: 1) QoC attributes and modeling
aspects
2) Runtime decision support addressing uncertainty
A. QoC attributes and modeling aspects
QoC attributes and their modeling comes into play to capture the uncertainties in context data. A
well designed model is a key assessor to the quality of the context. Krause and Hochstatter [5]
discussed the challenges in modeling the
QoC and its usage. Several QoC models emerged but most of the QoC models were not properly
quantified according to the
QoC requirements. Castro et al. [6] investigated the accuracy of a location sensing service was
compromised. Ranganathan et al. [7] used predicate and probabilistic logic to assign confidence
values from 0 to 1 for every type of context. Dey et al. [1] suggested that mediation with the user
can help to reduce the uncertainty. QoC is modeled as meta–data where additional information
about the quality of the context source is utilized to capture the uncertainty. Krause and

Danny Duncan Research Paper
One of my main role models in life is the great Danny Duncan. He is a successful, funny, and all
around just a great guy. First off, he doesn't really care how people view him. Usually when he's in
public people look at him weird because he's always messing around or making a fool of himself.
But he doesn't care. He makes a lot of prank videos that could be embarrassing to him but he just
likes to have a good time. Whenever you watch his videos you can't stop laughing. Sometimes his
videos are the light to your rainy day. In addition Mr. Duncan is also successful. He has 1.1 million
subscribers on YouTube. He is a 25–year–old kid from Englewood, Florida that moved to
Hollywood and owns a house in both states. It is estimated that he makes

Plus Sized Models Research Paper
Are Plus–sized Models Changing the Fashion Industry In 2014, Calvin Klein cast a new model for
their "Perfectly Fit" underwear campaign. She was a size 10, which is uncommon for a model to be
in such a known label. With this knowledge the media mistook her as the new "plus–sized" model
for the company, even though Calvin Klein never gave a clear statement on her casting. Recently,
the campaign she participated in has resurfaced online and has caused a debate on what it means to
be "plus–sized".
For so long, there has been an assumption that to be a high end model you need to fit a certain mold.
But recently, plus–sized models have been breaking through the fashion industry and leaving their
mark, suggesting that you don't have to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

effort to change the ways of the fashion industry to be more considerate of other body types that
form our society. Turning a blind eye on this issue affects us all. Not only does this have an impact
on how people represent themselves, but also how people are viewed. If the fashion industry keeps
exploiting one body type how will anyone feel like they fit in. The efforts plus–sized models are

Compare And Contrast Meryl Streep And Alvin Ailey
Everyone has a role model. The two people I admire are Meryl Streep and Alvin Ailey. They both
show to me how to work hard, take the time to perfect your craft, and to follow your dreams. The
performing arts business can be tricky because there is a great deal of competition. However, Meryl
Streep and Alvin Ailey never stopped trying and made great accomplishments in their fields. Meryl
Streep has gone far beyond perfecting her craft. She is an American actress who has been said to be
the greatest actress of her generation. One sign of great actress is the ability to play different roles.
She has played both dramatic roles, such as in Sophie's Choice and comedic roles such as in
Mamma Mia!. I personally enjoy her dramatic roles the best. She

Beauty of America
The Beauty of America Do you think there is such thing as real beauty or is it just an idea created by
society? We believe that beauty is one way and that if you do not follow or fit the criteria, then you
are not beautiful because you don't meet the standards. Media gives us their view of what beauty is
and how to define it. The media influences what beauty is but then the media's view of beauty is not
the only one. What we seem to think beauty is, is something that we want to have or want to be like
because we think that is the right beauty, but is it really? The magazine models we see are tall,
skinny, and light skinned that is what we are told is beauty because they are able to be on a runway
and covers of magazines. The beauty seen in the magazines and on runway may be beauty to some
people but for others it's not beauty because reality is that not how everyone looks like in America.
For me trying to look like the models was not something I want to do because I already was skinny
but I was not tall or light skin. I more than anything didn't used to like how I looked before I got to
college because I was really skinny and boney. To me that was not beautiful because I felt that I
really didn't have a figure because just about all my sisters have figure and I was the only really
skinny one and was called boney. So for me beauty is having curves and being happy with your
body not what the media portrays as beauty. The magazine models and runway models are what we
are told

Radio Raheem As A Role Model
When people think of a role model the first thing that comes to mind is, "how is this person
successful?" or " what kind of achievements have they made in their lifetime." Radio Raheem was
known as an aggressor in the entire movie "Do the Right Thing". To the kids he was a man who
always walked around playing loud music and did nothing else. Radio Raheem is not and could
never be a role model in his time because he never achieved a goal; something that people
remembered him for. Not for just his death.
Role models are someone you would want your child to learn from. Someone you would want to be
mentored by. Radio Raheem was a person to want love but have hate takes over. The last thing he

Affence Positive Influence On Children
Parents should consider the negative influence celebrities have on children when depicted as role
models because of how the children mimic celebrities, get brought down by what they can't do, and
how celebrities don't take action for not being a true role model.
Children manipulate and mimic a lot of things celebrities do, even if they are bad, so they aren't able
to distinguish the good from the bad. For example, the author states "A diminished emphasis on the
actual consequences of wrongdoing confuses children into believing whatever bad things celebrities
do are excusable and, thus, should apply to them" (Christina Hamlett). This shows that celebrities do
many wrong things, but children don't see the wrong in whatever they are doing. Their thinking of
what is right and wrong is altered. This also shows why the parents should be there to teach their
children the right and wrong things, not the celebrities. Additionally, another author states, "Many
celebrities don't make a secret of alcohol or drug abuse and the glamorization of dying due to an
overdose in the media might make your child feel that using these substances is acceptable" (Eliza
Martinez). This explains that when children find out famous celebrities drink alcohol, they think
they can too. It leads them to make the choice that drinking and drugs aren't a bad thing. It also
shows that celebrities alter the way children believe what is good and bad. Since they want to
become the celebrity, they believe they

Radio Raheem: The Qualities Of A Role Model
A role model is person who people should strive to be like. Qualities of a role model include
confidence, uniqueness, bravery, being hardworking, humble, positive, and admirable. Radio
Raheem is a role model because he didn't use violence to portray his values and stood for what he
believed in despite opposition. Radio Raheem was a very quiet person throughout the film. He only
spoke when he was spreading and defending his passion. When thinking of confrontation, a person
would assume violence was used. So being initially gentle in confronting someone is admirable.
Radio Raheem caused a disturbance in the restaurant, so Sal destroyed his property. This triggered
Radio Raheem to react violently in defense. Loud music is annoying to most, but

Lange does and who she is, and it makes these people want to follow in her famous footsteps. She is

woman has had a very admirable life, in which she has overcome the obstacles of being a "nobody"

Plus Size Women
In my opinion, we need not discuss a reconciliation of sorts regarding the greater degree of
acceptance of plus–size women with the parallel emphasis our society continues to place on thinness
because I think that comparison would be based upon "approval" versus acceptance. My reasoning
is this, images where media now portrays plus–size women in a positive light and encourages
society to accept plus–size as beautiful, does not encourage/approve of the health problems
associated with obesity. We can find the beauty in all people. Size does not determine whether or not
someone is a loving, caring, kind, or beautiful person; therefore, the mindset that these images
should not be accepted due to health problems is foolish to me. Let us look ... Show more content on

Additionally, when people feel accepted, they feel better about themselves. Accepting a person
because they are plus–size does not necessarily encourage them to live an unhealthy lifestyle. In
fact, these women may feel more confident and actually take the initiative to get active, and not
because they are chasing the need to feel accepted, but because they are less self–conscious and able
to walk out in public without feeling inferior due to lowered self–esteem. As we know, self–esteem
influences consumer behavior (Solomon, 2017). Social media is providing a platform for plus–size
women to have a voice. There are so many plus–size models and bloggers that have created pages
strictly built to encourage and empower women who may feel like they do not fit society's mode.
Social media has brought about a self–acceptance to the masses. It allows consumers to voice their
stance, which often times expresses the way many others feel, and set a tone to make changes. For
example, a blogger Jes Baker, also known as Militant Baker, posted a letter to Abercrombie & Fitch
regarding his "sizeism." (Katz, 2015). Her voice was heard throughout social media. Hence, social
media is impacting beauty

How Models Can Be Beneficial For Sustainability Science?
Models are used in many different disciplines, ranging from economics to biology. They aim to
apply parameters to a phenomenon and provide an analysis of the responses by the system that is
being modeled. A model is a good way to project the future feedbacks of a system in order to better
plan and build policies regarding the discipline it regards. In sustainability science, a model has the
ability to provide information that will lead to the best decisions regarding the longevity of
environmental systems and how to go about ensuring the sustainability of these systems. Models
can be beneficial in sustainability science and provide useful information pertaining to scientists and
policy makers, but that requires proper use and implementation. Models have some risk associated
with them in regards to sustainability science, and if not considered, a model can have shortcomings
in usefulness. By looking at both the values and risks of models, future modeling techniques and
implementations can be better developed well rounded solutions to future dynamic issues. Modeling
has many features that make them beneficial in application. Broadly speaking, a model provides you
with visual and fathomable demonstrations of complex phenomena's. For example, by looking at a
simple model of an atom you are able to see the fundamental structures that constitute the model,
without having to go into a lab with a high–power microscope and look at the real atom. That being
said, models give you the

Summary Of H. M. Irwing's Curve Couture

and hunky supermodels day in and day out has done a number on her self–confidence. What started
as commiseration and comfort with her sister's fiancé, Colin, swiftly became her first time going all
the way. Claire is consumed by guilt for betraying her sister, Janice. The problem is that Janice, a

represent her sister after her ultimate betrayal, Claire approaches retired male supermodel turned
agent, Erin Robertson. She begs Erin to take on Janice as a client; however, Erin refuses and shocks
Claire by asking to sign her on as a plus sized model instead.
What follows is a swift and awkwardly produced romance between Claire and Erin. Claire, who has
never attracted male attention until her slip up with Colin, has suddenly become desirable in the

Process Essay: What Is A Role Model?
What is a role Model? A role model in my opinion is someone that does the right thing constantly,
someone that can lead others to doing the right thing. As the dictionary states a role model is a
person whose behavior, example, or success is or can be emulated by others, especially by younger
people.
Without role models in this world we would have nobody to strive to be like. Role models give the
people learning the keys to success they lead and guide the people so they can make the right
decisions. Before being a role model there will always be someone before them that was their role

As a role model you should also set the example so when others see you while you do what you are
supposed to do the can learn to emulate the role model. Leaders should be great followers before a
leader because without knowledge and wisdom nothing good will come out of what you do. Role
models are servant leaders they do things for the betterment of the people they are doing it for. A
role model has so much experience to give to all of us so that we can grow and learn the skills to
become just like our role models. Role models are essential for life if people looked up to the wrong
people our world would be filled with chaos we would be nowhere without a good leader. A role
model will be dedicated to a cause they will pursue the best possible options to success then once
they reach their peak they will always be looking for someone who can and will do better than them
and lead others farther and farther to the specific goal. Role models should be honorable and have
integrity. Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is around or watching you. Honor is
respecting someone to the fullest even when they don't deserve it. Having these two things in my
opinion will make you the greatest role model and leader out of them all. Respect is also a key
tenant in being a good role model without respect as a foundation you will go nowhere until you
learn it, because no one will take a disrespectful leader

Positive Role Model In To Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee
A positive role model is an individual who possesses positive qualities, such as empathy and
integrity, and does good for the betterment of others, which, as a result, influences others to follow
their example. A role model's actions and lessons can help shape a child's views, morals and beliefs,
which, in turn, affect their identity as well as their actions and behaviour towards those around them.
The novel, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, is set in the fictional town of Maycomb, Alabama,
where racial discrimination and narrow–mindedness run rampant. In the novel, Lee showcases the
impact and influence that role models can have on a child through the protagonist, Scout Finch. In

Attribution Theory: Kelley's Covariation Model
Kelley's Covariation Model Kelley's (1967) covariation model is the best known attribution theory.
It is an attribution theory in which people make casual inferences to explain why other people and
ourselves behave in a certain way. It is concerned with both social perception and self–perception
(Kelley, 1973). He developed a logical model for judging whether a particular action should be
attributed to some characteristic (internal) of the person or the environment (external). The term
covariation simply means that a person has information from multiple observations, at different
times and situations, and can perceive the covariation of an observed effect and its causes. He
argues that in trying to discover the causes of behavior people act like scientists. More specifically
they take into account three kinds of evidence. Kelley believed that there were three types of causal
information which influenced our judgments. Consensus: It is the covariation of behavior across
different people. e.g. Everybody in the audience is laughing; consensus is high. If only Priya is
laughing consensus is low. Distinctiveness: It refers to how unique the behavior is to a ... Show

of the most basic aspects of the human mind, and most teachers and researchers would agree that it
has a very important role in determining success or failure in any learning situation. My personal
experience is that 99 per cent of language learners who really want to learn a foreign language (i.e.
who are really motivated) will be able to master a reasonable working knowledge of it as a
minimum, regardless of their language aptitude."

Why Is Oprah Winfrey A Good Role Model
What makes a person a great role model? Does it come with age? Maybe, it comes with character.
Role models are supposed to set an example for others to follow. I consider Oprah Winfrey a role
model because she is very hardworking, humble, and giving.
One reason why I consider Oprah a role model is because of how hardworking she is. For example,
how she rose from poverty to great prosperity. While she used to be poor, she is now a billionaire.
Also, how she continues to persevere through every task. No matter how difficult it is, she always
finds a way to achieve her goal. Especially how she jumps over any hurdles that are in her way,
overlooking problems that most people use as a crutch. In other words, Oprah is a leader and role

Women 's Exploitation Of Women
The exploitation of women in production, and the exclusion of women from consumption is not the
only ways in which the female body is harmed as a result of the globalization of the fashion
industry. Perhaps the most obvious occurrence of female body harm in the fashion industry is a
result of fashion modeling. An up–close look into the modeling industry as a microcosm of the
fashion industry reveals the severe objectification and commodification of fashion models for the
sake of consumption.
The modeling industry has created a culture of exclusion across genders and races. Author Ashley
Mears (2010) critically analyses the fashion industry, and how it influences production of culture
and beauty ideals around the world. The modeling world is extremely female dominated, and the
women who participate are continually commodified as they are used as a means to "promote and
disseminate ideas of how women should look," (p. 23). Because consumption is valued so in today's
society, the model is employed based on her perceived ability to sell a product. The clothes she is
hired to wear and the beauty ideal that she is helping sell are more important than her humanity, and
she becomes dehumanized. "Clothes take on such utmost importance that models are and should be
mere clothes hangers, with perfectly discrete bodies that will display the clothes but not detract from
them," (Mears, 2010, p. 35). Models are blatantly objectified as they are forced be invisible for the

Perry And Bussey 's Theory Of Sex Essay
Perry and Bussey's (1979) study was motivated as a rebuttal to Maccoby and Jacklin's (1974) claim
that research and studies done up until then failed to give significant support to the theory that sex
differentials based on same–sex model imitation as a mechanism for sex–role development was
unimportant. Perry and Bussey contended this notion on two fronts. They repute current design
models used to test imitation of same–sex models, stating that children are oftentimes given a single
stranger as a role model, male or female, who preform mundane tasks and are then tested for
imitation of the model's response (Perry and Bussey, 1979, p.1700). This is nowhere near
reminiscent of real life scenarios in which a child has multiple examples of both same– and
opposite– sex models to compare and contrast sex appropriate social and cultural responses. They
also re–examined how children code sex–typing displays into long–term memory by looking at how
children respond to models they found themselves to be similar to. To that end, Perry and Bussey set
up two related experiments that where designed to determine a) how might a child's endorsement of
an item be influenced by the frequencies with which same– versus opposite– sex models display
similar preferences and b) does the child imitate said same–sex model more often when they believe
the model's behavior is appropriate due to a clear indication that the model is behaving typically for
his or her sex. In the first experiment Perry

Literally dying to stay beautiful doesn't sound so beautiful then one would think, on the other hand

Fashion Industry Problems
The Problem with the Fashion Industry The fashion industry causes kids learn that there is only one
way to be beautiful, they may feel pressured and become anorexic, or bulimic. Eating disorders are
caused by insecurities or fears of being unattractive. According to the article, "The Fashion Industry
May be Linked to Poor Body Image and Eating Disorders,","Most runway models are 14–19...many
are 5–foot–10 or 5–foot–11. They average 120 to 124 pounds." However, in the article "The Fashion
Industry Promotes Eating Disorders," it says, "The average American woman is 5'4" and weighs 163
pounds." The difference is shocking, and this is one of the reasons why runway model bodies are so
unachievable. Striving for them will cause strenuous exercise and severe diet changes that most
teenage bodies will not adapt to easily. The fantasy of looking like these models can tragically lead
to eating disorders out of fear of becoming overweight. Fashion industries, spanning all around the
world need to look into this heartbreaking epidemic of teens succumbing to their desires to be as
"perfect" as the models that are constantly shown despite the extreme, detrimental risks that it can
cause. The industry profits on insecure women who doubt their attractiveness, and this needs to
change. Nowadays, children in our society have access to multiple forms of advertisement and
entertainment featuring a plethora of models, actors/actresses, and celebrities who set a guideline for

Level Three Leadership
Level Three Leadership is imperative in today's changing society that relies on technology and
social media. All that we do is dependent upon the change processes, the roles that any person can
play and the interaction of the organization, self, others and the task. Change is inevitable for many
managers find a comfort zone which reduces flexibility and future growth they tend to miss the
shifting in the market and are left behind. As there are many models of managing change, no model
of managing change in the individual, work–group, or organizational level is to overlook the
importance of becoming a master of the change process to become an effective leader. Therefore, a

It was noted that communication efforts must be verbal and active (Kotter, 1995). Kotter eight step

acceptance and the preparation of this change, which makes it an easy transition. In Kotter's and
Lewin's models, both consider the difficulties that organizations encounter when trying to move
people from their comfort zone for the change to happen. In both of the models they use a different

Bsbwor501 What Makes A Good Role Model
BSBWOR501 Summative Assessment 2 ? Michelle Rick
1. What makes a good role model and how can I ensure that I act as a role model for employees I
supervise?
The definition of a role model is a person whose behaviour, example or success can be emulated by
others, especially young people. Their values, actions and behaviours are upheld as an ideal and to
be desired. Being a role model may not be taken in its entirety. It can be broken down allowing a
person to be a role model in one area and not another. Being a manager is not a guarantee to be a
role model. Good leaders will model behaviours that encourage employees to endorse organisational
goals and objectives. By modelling the behaviours you find desirable and that will help reach
company gaols others will also begin to model said behaviours.
2. What are the traits of an effective leader? How can these traits be developed?

Issues Of The Modeling Industry
Issues in the Modeling Industry Fashion is everything to society and the media, but everyone wants
to look good while feeling beautiful in their own way. Everyone believes that fashion is an easy,
fashionable, and sophisticated style. Today, the modeling industry has become negative for older
and younger women. The people in the industry do not prefer unhealthy body images such as
pictures of overweight women. Women suffer from depression and anxiety. The modeling industry
has been very harmful towards women in America. It effects women by not achieving a healthy,
being strong, and confident body image regardless of shape and size.
Having a skinny body is very important in the modeling industry. Bigger women always get turned
down. This makes them feel unhealthy and not as beautiful as the other women that are modeling.
The hard part for models is to keep their weight down to a certain number, otherwise, they are not
allowed to model anymore. Today, in America many women are suffering from eating disorders, and
other negative behaviors which make women do things to their body that they should not do. Men
are attracted to healthy women regardless if the woman is older. Most modeling agencies prefer
skinny women because they believe having smaller women as models would attract men there to
support them. The media thinks being overweight is ugly which is unfair for bigger women because
women of any size should be able to model. The media shows thin women on television

Attempting to Pin Down a Definition of Childhood Essay
The term 'Childhood' has always be hard to define as it will vary from each person, every person
would have experienced a childhood but how they define theirs is a different story. 'Childhood is the
time for children to be in school and at play, to grow strong and confident with the love and
encouragement of their family and an extended community of caring adults.'(UNICEF, 2005). From
a psychological view childhood would be defined as the space between birth and attainment of
adulthood; but it is far more than that, it a special time where the child children are safe from
violence, free from fear, protected from exploitation and abuse and free to explore the treasures of
life. In the UK there is no official age when you are no longer a ... Show more content on

When asked, many celebrities (sports figures, actors, musicians) state that they don't want to be role

make. As celebrities they are so prominent in society they have no choice but to be a role model and
take the responsibilities seriously.
Banduras work on social learning shown that much of learning that occurs during development is
acquired through observation and imitation. 'Behaviour is learned from the environment through the
process of observational learning' (1977), 'Children observe the people around them behaving in
various ways.'(1961). When this topic is brought to light many of us would agree that children learn
best from role models and choose to imitate the behaviour they desire. In today society there are
enough negative role models for children to choose from. Both adolescents and children copy the
appearances and actions of those in movies, music videos, videos and television. However, today's
society especially the media are not modelling pro–social behaviour or promoting family values.
Many parents fear to think of their child imitating actions from a 'negative role model'.
Whether the daughter or son acknowledges it or not, parents are one of the child's biggest role
models and hold the more influence over decision making and what happens in their life. From
when the child is born to when they leave home, some of their parents

undertaken to assess the full potential of simulation tools either in the design and manufacture of
airframes or any other industrial sector. Therefore, it is vital to assess the role of simulation tools
throughout the product life cycle and define the best use of these tools within selected areas. There
are a number of US companies that are leading the way forward through full corporate investment,

The use of simulation capabilities in the 'right–first–time' approach has become an important tool in
product and process design and development.
Simulation is used for tooling design and development and runs concurrently with product design in

When simulation is adopted there is also a requirement for some thought to the way they are used
within the business process.
The interaction process between simulation types has to be appropriate and highly efficient to
ensure that the benefits of simulation integration are not lost through isolated activities.
Even though data transfer techniques have advanced significantly, internal business system
configurations need to be developed to allow for these transfer techniques to be used efficiently.
Product data management must ensure that all participants involved in product and process design

Taylor Swift Research Paper
Taylor Swift Role Model?
Taylor Swift has been a huge impact on our society and not in the good way. Weather it is her songs
or her actions I still think she is a bad role model for young girls. I say this because 99% of her
songs are about the breakup between her and a guy and if the song isn't about her it's about some
random girl that she just despises for no apparent reason. According to 'Role Model' Taylor Swift
Sings the Wrong Messages, it clearly say that Taylor is a good songwriter but she doesn't put it to
good use. According to the article "The truth is that Taylor Swift is talented. She can write great pop
songs with catchy melodies and lyrics that resonate with anyone with any capacity for emotion. The
problem is with the image she creates for all her devoted followers to admire.

who are not within the label of a "slut." Now I'm not saying I hate Taylor Swift or her music, I
actually find her music catchy but if you focus on the lyrics and not the beat the truth will come out.
Text says "In the song "Better Than Revenge," Swift attacks the girl who has supposedly taken her

Rhetorical Analysis: The Perfect Body
Body Confidence To feel body confident, you need to be happy with who you are as a women with
or without curves. Many women in this century are facing a lack of confidence by the way they
look. Women may lower their self esteem by seeing another women with a beautiful feature and
compare their look with someone else. A women's body image is based on thoughts and feelings
regarding the way her body looks. Sometimes, they also believe other people are judging their
appearance which can affect their body image. Victoria's Secret unveiled their campaign slogan the
"Perfect Body" with an image of tall and skinny models. However, Curvy Kate, a lingerie brand,
recreates an image using models of all shapes and sizes mocking the Victoria's Secrets slogan. I
argue that the Victoria's Secret slogan, "The Perfect Body" shouldn't symbolize their tall physique
models by aiming for women with a smaller waist size. The advertisement shows its audience that

what a perfect body should look like, when the perfect body should define who you are and how
well you're comfortable in your skin. The significance of this claim is to love and be happy with
yourself because as I stated in this essay, statistics shows that 91% of women are not happy about
their bodies. What can we do to help women who don't feel comfortable in their bodily image?.

Stereotyping Behavior
As humans we feel the need to explain everything to ourselves and to others, we attribute cause to
the events around us which gives us a sense of control. This 'need to explain' is helped through
attribution theory argued by Robbins, Millet and Boyle which try to explain the ways in which we
judge people differently, depending on the meaning we attribute to a given behavior . There are
three different type of observations that we make when we attribute behavior to either external or
internal sources being consensus, consistency and distinctiveness. Considering a case of job
selection process, Sam arrives at an interview and sits down without greeting his employees. Now
given due to research that humans pass judgment on to others in a ... Show more content on

The anchor being that Hagan is a slacker is what Rowan will tend to fixate on to guide his view on
not hiring Hagan. In case of Rowan and Merel, Stereotyping bias seems to be playing a major role.
According to Robins, Millet and Boyle, Stereotyping is judging someone on the basis of one's
perception of the group to which that person belongs(Robbins, S.2011). Stereotyping occurs because
we rely on generalizations everyday which help us make decisions quickly in order to simplify this
complex world. Rowans quick perception of Merel being hostile and unfriendly just based on the
'death metal band' clothes she was wearing was an example of stereotypical bias which is interfering
with his decision to hire her.Sarah assumed his first candidate Vikrim being late was due to external
factors therefore this factor is what she will base her following decisions on. This can be explained
by availability bias which is mental tendency for people to base judgments on information that is
readily available to them, its the idea that we use limited information. When you are trying to make
a decision, a number of related situations might immediately come to mind. As a result you might
interpret that those situations are more frequent and possible than others. Silvia Mamede 2010

Should Models Have a Minimum Weight Limit? Essay
Maricrua Garza
Should a minimum weight be required for models?
When we have a job that we love, we want to keep it no matter what. That's understandable, but we
have to be careful how far we actually go in order to keep it. There are things much more important
than any job in the world like our health. Even for those who's jobs, looks are everything. We all
want to look our best at all time, especially if we are in the modeling business. There have been
many issues with models and their ways of losing weight. These models have eating disorders that

When they say that ordinary people are going to want to become models they make it sound like it's
a bad thing. In reality that is a good thing, the more models the more business. The more models
that we have the more clothing and products that companies get to advertise. Also due to that
models are meant to be skinny we don't have many models left, and the models that are modeling as
an now many are in serious danger for having eating disorders.
If models are a couple pound heavier that doesn't mean that they can't wear bathing suits. I don't
believe that they would look horrible I actually think that it would help the company sell more
bathing suits if they are seen on models who don't look like walking sticks. The truth is that not
everyone wears a bathing suit because we don't feel confident since we don't look like the models
who advertise them. Although if we see the product on people who aren't as thin we will gain that
confidence and the company will sell many more products.
It's very true that not all models have the same height, but that shouldn't be a problem. The
minimum weight limit can be based on height and any other circumstances. It is very important that
all models have the same requirements and very understandable that this statement has been given
by these anonymous people. I understand the point that they are trying to make, but of course if a

The Covariation Model, By Harold H. Kelley
The Covariation model, created by Harold H. Kelley, has been a crucial contribution to the study of
social psychology. The covariation model is one of two attribution theories. It states that there are
internal and external causes for every occurring event that must be distinguished. There are three
categories to the covariation model: consensus, consistency, and distinctiveness. Consensus is
whether or not other people have acted in the same way as the person in question. Consistency is
based on whether or not the person has acted like this in the past. Distinctiveness is the level of
which this same person acted in the same manner when placed in diverse situations. Depending on
these levels of consensus, consistency, and distinctiveness, the attribution to internal or external
causes is determined. These situations are as follows: 1) low consensus, high consistency, and low
distinctiveness results in internal attribution, 2) high consensus, high consistency, and high
distinctiveness results in external attribution. Internal attribution shows that the events that occurred
happened because of our own internal reasons, which is also known as disposition attribution.
Whereas external attribution shows that events have happened because of external reasons, also
known as situational attribution. The creation of the covariation model has been important to the
field of social psychology because it has allowed us to understand the causes of behavior. Shortly
after creating the

Fashion At The Edge, By Gaby Wood
In Caroline Evans' book, Fashion at the Edge, she looks at the fashions from all ages but goes most
deeply into the fashion of the 1990's and the themes that were very apparent in that particular time.
She expands on these themes in chapters throughout her book such as Deathliness, Spectacle,
Horror and Glamour. She relates all these themes back to the influences of the 20th century and the
rise of the commodity obsessed culture, modernism and capitalism and the metaphorical death it
brings to our world. This essay will focus on the image of 'Dolly Mixture' that was featured in a
fashion spread in 2000 that was written by Gaby Wood, which is found in the Deathliness chapter. I
will review Evans' chapter and her analysis of the themes and idea proposed by Evans herself and
other theorists. I will use these themes and ideas to make my own predictions about the effects these
theories would have on the future of our society and our fashion here in New Zealand.
Evans starts the chapter of with exploring the idea of living dolls. She explains that these living
dolls are actually human beings, mostly women that are becoming or have become objects through
the course of modeling clothes. There are several European designers who have seen this issue and
have played on this idea in the late 1990's, such designers like Martin Margiela, Alexander
McQueen and Hussein Chalayan. They replaced real life models with dummies, as they called it, or
by using the model to resemble a dummy by

Fashion And Its Effect On Society
For many centuries people have put thought and effort into the type of clothing that they wear. The
idea of wearing different clothing gave people a way to stand out and be different from others.
Fashion is not just the clothing that people chose to wear, it is about the people wearing it and the
choices that they have made. Clothing has become a part of self–expression. The reason that
clothing even exists is because of social and societal norms. Many people believe that the way you
dress can say a lot about you. Whether you are underdressed or underdressed, fashion is always
something that others tend to have an opinion on. But is fashion actually important? Does the way
that we dress and present ourselves really have an effect on others? Many will say yes, fashion does
matter. First impressions tend to make a lasting impact on the way that we think of other people. If
we are not dressed to societies standard of presentable, we can make a bad impression. Fashion can
also be a form of expression. Whether it is a cultural expression or personal. It is seen as an art form
that many take very seriously. Others may say no, fashion is seen as frivolous and a refection of a
materialistic society. Personally, I believe that fashion is very important because not only is it a form
of self–expression, it also says a lot about who we are as a person by the choices that we make. If
everyone wore the same thing, there would be no variety in our society. Imagine how boring life

Banning Skinny Models Research Paper

  • 1. Banning Skinny Models Research Paper They're Humans, Not Hangers Is Banning Skinny Models the Solution to the Rising Amount of Eating Disorders? Every year, hundreds of thousands of people tune in to watch Fashion Week runway shows from around the world, with designers presenting new collections every season. From New York to Milan, it is impossible to miss a controversial detail within the shows, the skeleton thin models showcasing the designs. Not only are these models harming themselves in order to fit into the industry's expectations, but they may also be setting a dangerous example for the public audience. Because thin girls are constantly represented in the media, some believe that there is a correlation between the rising rate of eating disorders and the size of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Psychologist Jane Callaghan expresses that a positive body image doesn't rely solely on the comparisons to other girls (Callaghan). "Media images are only a tiny contributing factor" (Callaghan) to the development of eating disorders. Other forces include a genetic predisposition to the mental illness, low self esteem, and societal pressure (Mayo Clinic Staff). Callaghan explains that the development of eating disorders often relies on one's attempt to "control" these external forces (Callaghans). Understanding that there are factors affecting ones body image other than media exposure, Callaghan argues that attacking these external forces, such as peer pressure and societal misogyny, could be more effective than eliminating thin girls from the fashion industry, seeing as how medias perpetual portrayal of thin girls is not the main cause for the rising rate of eating ... • 2. Self-Esteem And Self Esteem In a world where having friends is highly stressed, being perfect in academics, we are showing future generations what's right and how they need to look and act. Young teenage girls have to undergo the pressure of getting into a good college and being well–rounded. Added onto that they must have confidence and a strong self esteem, along with other factors that will play into their lives. Everyday many girls under the age of 14 open up a form of social media and see pictures where they find goals. This might be a picture of their friend where they look absolutely stunning. This young girl will then check the comments and she'll see that everyone's telling her how beautiful her friend is. Then after realizing that she has the exact same friends she goes to her own picture to see if they commented on her post too. To her disappointment there's only five comments, 4 comment are talking about homework and only one of them is telling her how pretty she is. Sadly, she thinks yourself that she wished she were prettier and that she had more friends. Although she has the highest GPA she still doesn't feel socially accepted, your role model is exactly like this. She is someone who has great achievements but even greater beauty. This only leads you to ask yourself do you like your role model for their achievements or for their beauty. At the age from 12 Years to 18 years a girl's self–image is the world to her. This is the time when she sees her friends wear make up and suddenly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Victoria's Secret Fashion Shows Fashion shows, media influences, and the modeling industry has shaped our society to aspire to physical features that are considered beautiful. Being a skinny, toned, and confident "it" girl has been advertised extensively as perfect and desirable during our current time period. While this may be considered a healthy fitness goal to achieve, companies publicize this value to an extreme in hopes of raising sales. A business that is well known for the abuse of this ideal body image is Victoria's Secret. Over the years, Victoria's Secret has promoted their models, better known as Angels, who appear to be representing a very small portion of the population in terms of body shape. This has become an intense debate amongst fans and critics, resulting in severe issues regarding social media, health, and financial gains. Natalie Reilly approached this topic after the 2017 Shanghai Victoria's Secret Fashion Show aired. Reilly brings her article to attention when she specifically states that the ability to "strut, almost naked, in spindly heels, is for a coterie of chosen models, the lingerie equivalent of winning an Oscar" (2017). Additionally, Reilly claims that this modeling opportunity is "infused somehow with the zealous pageantry of an ice–skating routine" (2017). While enthusiasts may beg to differ with these "facts", Reilly makes a strong rationalization using the controversial post by plus–sized model, Ashley Graham. Prior to the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, Graham made it clear that she had finally got her Angel wings, dissing the business on her six–million followers platform. Graham's testimony through the internet helps support Rielly's viewpoint by demonstrating that even top models in the field disagree with the Angel image. The issue of body image in relation to Victoria's Secret models could be better defined by the impractical measurements which the models are required to maintain. Runway models strive to achieve a 34–inch hip, 24–inch waist, and a 32–inch bust through extreme self–starvation. Popular diets include the tapeworm diet, the cigarette diet, and the lemon cleanse diet. Another extreme case of weight loss is the consumption of cotton balls to help attain a feeling of a full stomach ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Importance Of The Relevance Of The Data The importance of the relevance of the data has been identified since the very early work in context–aware ubiquitous systems. Despite of its importance few works have been carried out to quantify the QoC and ensure the quality of the information on which the decisions and actions of contextaware systems are based. Moreover, many decision support techniques are insufficient to address the runtime uncertainty in the context information as they do not assess the QoC in an end– to–end fashion. We formulate the related work into two parts: 1) QoC attributes and modeling aspects 2) Runtime decision support addressing uncertainty A. QoC attributes and modeling aspects QoC attributes and their modeling comes into play to capture the uncertainties in context data. A well designed model is a key assessor to the quality of the context. Krause and Hochstatter [5] discussed the challenges in modeling the QoC and its usage. Several QoC models emerged but most of the QoC models were not properly quantified according to the QoC requirements. Castro et al. [6] investigated the accuracy of a location sensing service was compromised. Ranganathan et al. [7] used predicate and probabilistic logic to assign confidence values from 0 to 1 for every type of context. Dey et al. [1] suggested that mediation with the user can help to reduce the uncertainty. QoC is modeled as meta–data where additional information about the quality of the context source is utilized to capture the uncertainty. Krause and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Plus Sized Models Research Paper Are Plus–sized Models Changing the Fashion Industry In 2014, Calvin Klein cast a new model for their "Perfectly Fit" underwear campaign. She was a size 10, which is uncommon for a model to be in such a known label. With this knowledge the media mistook her as the new "plus–sized" model for the company, even though Calvin Klein never gave a clear statement on her casting. Recently, the campaign she participated in has resurfaced online and has caused a debate on what it means to be "plus–sized". However, Meryl Streep and Alvin Ailey never stopped trying and made great accomplishments in their fields. Meryl Streep has gone far beyond perfecting her craft. She is an American actress who has been said to be the greatest actress of her generation. One sign of great actress is the ability to play different roles. • 8. Beauty of America The Beauty of America Do you think there is such thing as real beauty or is it just an idea created by society? We believe that beauty is one way and that if you do not follow or fit the criteria, then you are not beautiful because you don't meet the standards. Media gives us their view of what beauty is and how to define it. The media influences what beauty is but then the media's view of beauty is not the only one. What we seem to think beauty is, is something that we want to have or want to be like because we think that is the right beauty, but is it really? The magazine models we see are tall, skinny, and light skinned that is what we are told is beauty because they are able to be on a runway and covers of magazines. The beauty seen in the magazines and on runway may be beauty to some people but for others it's not beauty because reality is that not how everyone looks like in America. For me trying to look like the models was not something I want to do because I already was skinny but I was not tall or light skin. I more than anything didn't used to like how I looked before I got to college because I was really skinny and boney. To me that was not beautiful because I felt that I really didn't have a figure because just about all my sisters have figure and I was the only really skinny one and was called boney. So for me beauty is having curves and being happy with your body not what the media portrays as beauty. The magazine models and runway models are what we are told ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Radio Raheem As A Role Model When people think of a role model the first thing that comes to mind is, "how is this person successful?" or " what kind of achievements have they made in their lifetime." Radio Raheem was known as an aggressor in the entire movie "Do the Right Thing". To the kids he was a man who always walked around playing loud music and did nothing else. Radio Raheem is not and could never be a role model in his time because he never achieved a goal; something that people remembered him for. Not for just his death. • 10. Affence Positive Influence On Children Parents should consider the negative influence celebrities have on children when depicted as role models because of how the children mimic celebrities, get brought down by what they can't do, and how celebrities don't take action for not being a true role model. Children manipulate and mimic a lot of things celebrities do, even if they are bad, so they aren't able to distinguish the good from the bad. For example, the author states "A diminished emphasis on the actual consequences of wrongdoing confuses children into believing whatever bad things celebrities do are excusable and, thus, should apply to them" (Christina Hamlett). This shows that celebrities do many wrong things, but children don't see the wrong in whatever they are doing. Their thinking of what is right and wrong is altered. This also shows why the parents should be there to teach their children the right and wrong things, not the celebrities. Additionally, another author states, "Many celebrities don't make a secret of alcohol or drug abuse and the glamorization of dying due to an overdose in the media might make your child feel that using these substances is acceptable" (Eliza Martinez). This explains that when children find out famous celebrities drink alcohol, they think they can too. It leads them to make the choice that drinking and drugs aren't a bad thing. It also shows that celebrities alter the way children believe what is good and bad. Since they want to become the celebrity, they believe they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Qualities of a role model include confidence, uniqueness, bravery, being hardworking, humble, positive, and admirable. Radio Raheem is a role model because he didn't use violence to portray his values and stood for what he believed in despite opposition. Radio Raheem was a very quiet person throughout the film. He only spoke when he was spreading and defending his passion. When thinking of confrontation, a person would assume violence was used. So being initially gentle in confronting someone is admirable. • 13. Plus Size Women In my opinion, we need not discuss a reconciliation of sorts regarding the greater degree of acceptance of plus–size women with the parallel emphasis our society continues to place on thinness because I think that comparison would be based upon "approval" versus acceptance. My reasoning is this, images where media now portrays plus–size women in a positive light and encourages society to accept plus–size as beautiful, does not encourage/approve of the health problems associated with obesity. We can find the beauty in all people. Size does not determine whether or not someone is a loving, caring, kind, or beautiful person; therefore, the mindset that these images should not be accepted due to health problems is foolish to me. Let us look ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, when people feel accepted, they feel better about themselves. Accepting a person because they are plus–size does not necessarily encourage them to live an unhealthy lifestyle. In fact, these women may feel more confident and actually take the initiative to get active, and not because they are chasing the need to feel accepted, but because they are less self–conscious and able to walk out in public without feeling inferior due to lowered self–esteem. As we know, self–esteem influences consumer behavior (Solomon, 2017). Social media is providing a platform for plus–size women to have a voice. There are so many plus–size models and bloggers that have created pages strictly built to encourage and empower women who may feel like they do not fit society's mode. Social media has brought about a self–acceptance to the masses. It allows consumers to voice their stance, which often times expresses the way many others feel, and set a tone to make changes. • 14. How Models Can Be Beneficial For Sustainability Science? Models are used in many different disciplines, ranging from economics to biology. They aim to apply parameters to a phenomenon and provide an analysis of the responses by the system that is being modeled. A model is a good way to project the future feedbacks of a system in order to better plan and build policies regarding the discipline it regards. In sustainability science, a model has the ability to provide information that will lead to the best decisions regarding the longevity of environmental systems and how to go about ensuring the sustainability of these systems. Models can be beneficial in sustainability science and provide useful information pertaining to scientists and policy makers, but that requires proper use and implementation. Models have some risk associated with them in regards to sustainability science, and if not considered, a model can have shortcomings in usefulness. By looking at both the values and risks of models, future modeling techniques and implementations can be better developed well rounded solutions to future dynamic issues. Modeling has many features that make them beneficial in application. Broadly speaking, a model provides you with visual and fathomable demonstrations of complex phenomena's. Role models should be honorable and have integrity. Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is around or watching you. Honor is respecting someone to the fullest even when they don't deserve it. Having these two things in my opinion will make you the greatest role model and leader out of them all. The novel, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, is set in the fictional town of Maycomb, Alabama, where racial discrimination and narrow–mindedness run rampant. • 20. Attribution Theory: Kelley's Covariation Model Kelley's Covariation Model Kelley's (1967) covariation model is the best known attribution theory. It is an attribution theory in which people make casual inferences to explain why other people and ourselves behave in a certain way. It is concerned with both social perception and self–perception (Kelley, 1973). He developed a logical model for judging whether a particular action should be attributed to some characteristic (internal) of the person or the environment (external). The term covariation simply means that a person has information from multiple observations, at different times and situations, and can perceive the covariation of an observed effect and its causes. He argues that in trying to discover the causes of behavior people act like scientists. More specifically they take into account three kinds of evidence. Kelley believed that there were three types of causal information which influenced our judgments. Role models are supposed to set an example for others to follow. I consider Oprah Winfrey a role model because she is very hardworking, humble, and giving. One reason why I consider Oprah a role model is because of how hardworking she is. For example, how she rose from poverty to great prosperity. While she used to be poor, she is now a billionaire. Also, how she continues to persevere through every task. No matter how difficult it is, she always finds a way to achieve her goal. Women 's Exploitation Of Women The exploitation of women in production, and the exclusion of women from consumption is not the only ways in which the female body is harmed as a result of the globalization of the fashion industry. Perhaps the most obvious occurrence of female body harm in the fashion industry is a result of fashion modeling. An up–close look into the modeling industry as a microcosm of the fashion industry reveals the severe objectification and commodification of fashion models for the sake of consumption. The modeling industry has created a culture of exclusion across genders and races. Author Ashley Mears (2010) critically analyses the fashion industry, and how it influences production of culture and beauty ideals around the world. The modeling world is extremely female dominated, and the women who participate are continually commodified as they are used as a means to "promote and disseminate ideas of how women should look," (p. 23). Because consumption is valued so in today's society, the model is employed based on her perceived ability to sell a product. The clothes she is hired to wear and the beauty ideal that she is helping sell are more important than her humanity, and she becomes dehumanized. "Clothes take on such utmost importance that models are and should be mere clothes hangers, with perfectly discrete bodies that will display the clothes but not detract from them," (Mears, 2010, p. 35). Perry And Bussey 's Theory Of Sex Essay Perry and Bussey's (1979) study was motivated as a rebuttal to Maccoby and Jacklin's (1974) claim that research and studies done up until then failed to give significant support to the theory that sex differentials based on same–sex model imitation as a mechanism for sex–role development was unimportant. Perry and Bussey contended this notion on two fronts. They repute current design models used to test imitation of same–sex models, stating that children are oftentimes given a single stranger as a role model, male or female, who preform mundane tasks and are then tested for imitation of the model's response (Perry and Bussey, 1979, p.1700). This is nowhere near reminiscent of real life scenarios in which a child has multiple examples of both same– and opposite– sex models to compare and contrast sex appropriate social and cultural responses. They also re–examined how children code sex–typing displays into long–term memory by looking at how children respond to models they found themselves to be similar to. To that end, Perry and Bussey set up two related experiments that where designed to determine a) how might a child's endorsement of an item be influenced by the frequencies with which same– versus opposite– sex models display similar preferences and b) does the child imitate said same–sex model more often when they believe the model's behavior is appropriate due to a clear indication that the model is behaving typically for his or her sex. Fashion Industry Problems The Problem with the Fashion Industry The fashion industry causes kids learn that there is only one way to be beautiful, they may feel pressured and become anorexic, or bulimic. There are three different type of observations that we make when we attribute behavior to either external or internal sources being consensus, consistency and distinctiveness. According to Robins, Millet and Boyle, Stereotyping is judging someone on the basis of one's perception of the group to which that person belongs(Robbins, S.2011). Stereotyping occurs because we rely on generalizations everyday which help us make decisions quickly in order to simplify this complex world. Rowans quick perception of Merel being hostile and unfriendly just based on the 'death metal band' clothes she was wearing was an example of stereotypical bias which is interfering with his decision to hire her.Sarah assumed his first candidate Vikrim being late was due to external factors therefore this factor is what she will base her following decisions on. This can be explained by availability bias which is mental tendency for people to base judgments on information that is readily available to them, its the idea that we use limited information. • 36. The Covariation Model, By Harold H. Kelley The Covariation model, created by Harold H. Kelley, has been a crucial contribution to the study of social psychology. The covariation model is one of two attribution theories. It states that there are internal and external causes for every occurring event that must be distinguished. There are three categories to the covariation model: consensus, consistency, and distinctiveness. Consensus is whether or not other people have acted in the same way as the person in question. Consistency is based on whether or not the person has acted like this in the past. Distinctiveness is the level of which this same person acted in the same manner when placed in diverse situations. Depending on these levels of consensus, consistency, and distinctiveness, the attribution to internal or external causes is determined. These situations are as follows: 1) low consensus, high consistency, and low distinctiveness results in internal attribution, 2) high consensus, high consistency, and high distinctiveness results in external attribution. Internal attribution shows that the events that occurred happened because of our own internal reasons, which is also known as disposition attribution. Whereas external attribution shows that events have happened because of external reasons, also known as situational attribution. The creation of the covariation model has been important to the field of social psychology because it has allowed us to understand the causes of behavior. Shortly after creating the ... She expands on these themes in chapters throughout her book such as Deathliness, Spectacle, Horror and Glamour. She relates all these themes back to the influences of the 20th century and the rise of the commodity obsessed culture, modernism and capitalism and the metaphorical death it brings to our world. This essay will focus on the image of 'Dolly Mixture' that was featured in a fashion spread in 2000 that was written by Gaby Wood, which is found in the Deathliness chapter. I will review Evans' chapter and her analysis of the themes and idea proposed by Evans herself and other theorists. I will use these themes and ideas to make my own predictions about the effects these theories would have on the future of our society and our fashion here in New Zealand. She explains that these living dolls are actually human beings, mostly women that are becoming or have become objects through the course of modeling clothes. There are several European designers who have seen this issue and have played on this idea in the late 1990's, such designers like Martin Margiela, Alexander McQueen and Hussein Chalayan. • 38. Fashion And Its Effect On Society For many centuries people have put thought and effort into the type of clothing that they wear. The idea of wearing different clothing gave people a way to stand out and be different from others. Fashion is not just the clothing that people chose to wear, it is about the people wearing it and the choices that they have made. Clothing has become a part of self–expression. The reason that clothing even exists is because of social and societal norms. Many people believe that the way you dress can say a lot about you. Whether you are underdressed or underdressed, fashion is always something that others tend to have an opinion on. But is fashion actually important? Does the way that we dress and present ourselves really have an effect on others? Many will say yes, fashion does matter. First impressions tend to make a lasting impact on the way that we think of other people. If we are not dressed to societies standard of presentable, we can make a bad impression. Fashion can also be a form of expression. Whether it is a cultural expression or personal. It is seen as an art form that many take very seriously. Others may say no, fashion is seen as frivolous and a refection of a materialistic society. Personally, I believe that fashion is very important because not only is it a form of self–expression, it also says a lot about who we are as a person by the choices that we make.
