Shortly after this Patton made his biggest, and quite likely most famous mistake of his career. While
visiting a hospital for wounded soldiers in Italy, Patton slapped and verbally abused two Shell–
Shocked ( what is now known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD) soldiers accusing them
of faking it to get out of the fighting. Patton was forced to apologize, taken out of action, and his
promotion to Major General was postponed. The United States, however, knew they couldn 't just
waste this extraordinary leader and sit him in time out while the fighting escalated in Europe. So
they devised a plan to put his fearsome reputation to use. In the time period leading up to D–Day,
the United States and Britain came up with plans for a phantom army in Northeast Britain where
Patton was stationed. Comprised of inflatable tanks and plywood bombers, with some fake
campfires and barracks for special effects, Patton's useless army looked terrifying to Axis air
intelligence. Once word reached Germany, massive numbers of troops were sent to defend the city
of Pas de Calais in France where Patton's facade was expected to attack. This elaborate hoax
allowed D–Day to remain a secret until the unexpected, full on attack at Normandy. Afterwards, half

This is exactly the feeling that the King is trying to provoke. Although Shakespeare does not
necessarily use worth in its traditional way of making people feel important, he sparks competition
within his men, which would likely be more effective at such a low point in their war. Similarly,
Lieutenant General George Patton needs to motivate his soldiers to fight an equally if not more
dangerous battle, but his men were already winning their war so he takes the traditional route and

first global war, which then led into World War II. Both wars have had significant impacts all around
the world. They have impacted the way countries are led and how societies operate all around the
world. Certain people have also played important roles that have impacted both sides of both wars.
One man that affected both wars was George S. Patton; not only was Patton a great military
tactician, but he was a strong and courageous leader that powerfully impacted the resulting factors

At West Point Patton still struggled academically, but he made it up in excelling in military drills
(General George). During Patton's time at West Point he also participated in football, but was
restricted because of some of his injuries. He joined the sword team and became the best swordsmen

Operation Cobra was the name given to the American's attempt to break out of the Normandy
bridgehead established after D–Day in June 1944 (WWII). Operation Cobra supported British,
Polish and Canadian assaults which was also true in operations codenamed Atlantic, Spring,
Totalise, Goodwood and Tractable. After D–Day, the Germans moved a great deal of equipment and
men to Normandy. As a result, breaking out of the Normandy beachhead proved to be far more

Once given his first command, he led a successful raid killing two of Poncho Villas men while
wounding and capturing three personally. This was an early display of his lead from the front

ensured that he delivered his report to the command post before finally agreeing to go to the
hospital. For his efforts he was promoted to Colonel and awarded the Distinguished Service Medal
and Purple Heart.

Did you know General George S. Patton was a commander of the American Forces? That is one fact
most people don't know about Patton. This paper will discuss World War II; some of the generals
that were in the war, the causes of the war, and the effects of the war.
There were many generals in the war but there were two that were the most influential. George S.
Patton began his military career by leading cavalry troops and won the war's first major American
victory against the Nazi–led forces. Patton also played a very important role in defeating the
German counterattack. Patton had led his army across the Rhine River to get into Germany. After
that, he accompanied General John J. Pershing on his unsuccessful expedition. George Patton had a
long military heritage and was happy to be apart of preparing for an invasion in the southeastern part

Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933. He had also volunteered for the Bavarian Army and served in
World War II. Hitler established concentration camps where six million people died. Hitler also
controlled the National Socialist German Workers Party. Hitler was very concerned about the loss of
material. Hitler hoped to attack in the west and hoped that Germans could drive Allied Troops who
landed in the west out. He drew back from World War II over Czechoslovakia in 1938. But he had
also volunteered for the Bavarian Army and served in World War II. He eventually decided to seize
Norway and then expected to win the war but other generals tried to find a less messy way of losing.

controversy in the pistol–shooting event. While the judges believed Patton missed the target with
one of his shots, he argued that he was so fine a marksman that one of his bullets actually traveled

Eisenhower thought Patton was to undisciplined to lead the Allied invasion of Normandy,
particularly after the thoughtless Patton slapped two shell–shocked soldiers under his command in
an Italian field hospital in August 1943.However Nazi military leaders, considered him the Allies'
best commander and anticipated he would lead a cross–channel invasion.
