My Experience With Diversity Throughout My Childhood,...
As I reflect over my life, I realize it has been filled with diversity throughout my childhood, marriage, and career. My experience with diversity dates
back to birth. I was born and raised in a small town, Moss Point, MS. and notably the last state to abolish slavery, currently has a population of 13,704
people. The town consists of 73% Blacks or African Americans, 23% Caucasian, 1% Hispanic or Latino and 1% bi–racial.
Regardless of my town's homogeneous population, I grew up accepting diversity and was taught about different cultures even amid the same racial
group. One of the first experiences of diversity I can recall as a child was the various religious beliefs within the Black community. My parents believed
"exposure to the world around you" was one of the primary factors to raising a well–rounded individual. Therefore, we often visited different churches
of various faiths.
Within my own family, there were different doctrines. My great–grandmother was Pentecostal, my grandmother is Baptist and my mother is Atheist.
While everyone seemed to have different belief systems, I participated in them all. I had to learn to adapt to each religious institution. In one church I
was allowed to wear pants and women could also be pastors; whereas, in another, women could only were full length dresses and were not allowed in
the pulpit.
Nonetheless, my parents consistently reiterated the world is comprised of many different races and complexities which in turn make the universe a

Religious Beliefs Of AntigoneBy Sophocles
King Creon puts his own laws above the gods laws and Sophocles shows how this story reflects his religious belief.King Creon makes a law about
if anyone tries to give Polyneices a proper funeral and if the people touch him they will be killed. If the King does not go through with the
punishment, people will think he is weak and they will take advantage of him. The King niece Antigone was caught prepping her brother for burial
and the King tries to help her get out of trouble but, she testified for committing the crime. He knows the rules of the gods and that all people are to
have a proper burial so their souls can reach the after world. King Creon believes that Polyneices was a traitor and he should not have a burial but,
eaten by wild animals as punishment. Many people believe Antigone did the right thing and should not be punished but, Creon must stand behind his
word to show not even his family can break the law. "The Greeks regraded the burial of the dead as one of the most sacred duties. It neglect involving
an offense against the dead; for, according to the popular belief, the soul obtained no rest in the realms of the dead,so long as the body remained
unburied" (DLVF). King Creon puts his own laws above the gods laws. Sophocles shows his belief by showing what happens to those who disobeys
the gods laws and they will be punished for it. King Creon lost all of his son, wife, and nieces because of his action. He was not completely wrong
for not wanting to give Polyneices a proper burial because he was a traitor who killed his brother over the power and sure Eteocles for not sharing
the throne but, that is reason to go to war with your own people. King Creon was very cautious person and did not trust many people but, power can
change people for the worst. He could have handled the situation better by obeying the laws of the gods and still could have punished Polyneices by
not allowing noone to speak his name or something of that sort to show what traitor get.
King Creon later changes his ways after he locks Antigone in a bunker and comes down to free her fearing the wrath of the gods and goes to her
finding she hanged herself, his son killed himself and later his wife curses him and kills herself. He

Religion in Shakespeare
The religion of William Shakespeare is a subject about which very few people have a complete understanding. His plays and poems contain an almost
overwhelming number of biblical references and allusions to biblical thinking, which can be seen as either Protestant or Catholic in understanding. His
concealment of various understandings and interpretations of religious ideology make it difficult to ascertain his own religious beliefs, however,
through further analysis of [insert names of plays], once can begin to understand the socioeconomic issues he sought to raise through his biblical
allusions. Sandra Hole's The Background of Divine Action in King Lear comments on how the play "is a religious rather than a secular play in the
sense that its real focus is not on the hero but on the background of divine action." (Hole, 217) A lot of Shakespeare's plays are set in religious
environments were allusions to Protestant and Catholic doctrines reflect Britain's religious stance in that period of time. The original source material
for King Lear, The moste famous Chronicle historye of Leire king of England and his Three Daughters, was abandoned, with Shakespeare's play being
set in pre–Christian Britain. This may be indicative of Shakespeare's desire to reduce the characters to basic states of religious or atheistic belief, so as
to question religion itself. The characters in Shakespeare's King Lear are represented as belonging to varying degrees of religious beliefs, from

Analysis of Tony Harrison's Poems Essays
Analysis of Tony Harrison's Poems After reading and analysing the three Tony Harrison poems I found that, they portray many relationships between
families with three members. In all of the poems Harrison was the son and they talked about the relationships between him and his father.
The first poem is 'Book Ends'. This poem shows us how the death of the mother affects father and son. Throughout the poem, Harrison shows the
broken relationship he has with his father, commenting "We never could talk much". His... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first line is presented in an unusual way, using words that the father would probably not understand, and describes the speed at which the dead
mother was cremated. The last word of the first line 'dead' instantly shows us the subject of the poem.
The second poem is 'Long Distance', his still continues the portrayal of the broken relationship between Harrison and his father, but also shows
how the father still lives without her and how he remembers her. The title, 'Long Distance', can be analyzed as a metaphor used to describe the
mentally long distance between Harrison and his father following his mother's death, or as the physical journey between Harrison and his father, as
Harrison lives in America whilst his father lives in England. This poem also hints that the father is miserable, "Your bed's got two wrong sides".
Here the poet uses the expression 'getting out of the wrong side of the bed' and by saying 'two wrong sides' he shows us that his father is a very
miserable man, and is very lonely, we can see this from the following quote "can't stand it no more, this empty house". Due to Harrison moving away
from his father he felt very guilty. His father had many health related problems, having had heart–attacks, cataracts and being diabetic,

Tim Tebow Religious Beliefs
Tim Tebow, Colin Kaepernick, and Kurt Warner are popular outspoken athletes who express their personal beliefs on the field. Some fans love these
athletes expressing their beliefs on the field, but some of their outspoken beliefs are a distraction. Their expression of beliefs have led to more athletes
making their personal beliefs known, but not every athlete's personal belief on the field are about religion. The outspoken beliefs of athletes should be
banned from professional sports if sports fans believe it is such a problem, but when they do that they should discourage athletes from having any sort
of tattoo on them. Professional athletes sharing their personal and religious beliefs on the field, should not be outlawed by sports coaches to express
themselves with their personal belief that include religious tattoos on the field, because professional athletes sharing their personal and religious
beliefs on the field distract fans from the game. One of these popular athletes is Tim Tebow, acknowledged by many as the greatest player in the
history of college football. Tebow went onto play in theNational Football League for the Denver Broncos and New York Jets and his popularity
provided a platform that he used became expression for his faith. After being traded by the Denver Broncos in 2012, his number fifteen has become
the league's highest selling jersey. After the Denver Broncos traded Tebow to the New York Jets in early 2012, Tebow continued to be featured in

Characteristics And Contributions Of Pastoralists
Pastoralists are herders that herd cattle, sheep and other animals. Strayer states, "Known as herders, pastoralists, or nomads, such people emerged in
Central Asia, the Arabian Peninsula... What they had in common was mobility, for they moved seasonally as they followed the changing patterns of
vegetation necessary as pasture for their animals."(39) Pastoralists moved constantly with their animals in order to feed them. When they moved, they
interacted with other civilizations and traded some of their animals for other luxurious goods. Traders are people who exchange goods with other
people and civilizations. Mesopotamia and Egypt traded many goods with one another, especially extravagant things. " Both Mesopotamia and Egypt
carried on long–distance trade, mostly luxury goods destined for the elite."(85) Even though it doesn't identify what the luxury goods are, we probably
know that it was spices and commodities. They only traded goods for the upper class not for "peasants" which means that they didn't value them as
much. Anyway, when they trade it spreads different commodities, animals, crops and technologies everywhere. Travelers are adventurers, people who
journey. An Egyptian traveler interprets what happened on his journey to Nubia, " I came down with three hundred donkeys laden with incense,
ebony... panther skins, elephant tusks, throw sticks, and all sorts of good products"(86) This traveler describes what he has received and it's fascinating

Superstition
Superstition "is a belief, half–belief, or practice for which there appears to be no rational substance." People tend to believe that they have their own
certain knowledge or evidence that supports religious beliefs or philosophical reasoning's. This leads people into believing that they have more control
than the reality and actuality of all situations and circumstances. Many customs that we take for granted as being a "normal" part of our culture have
actually evolved from superstitious beliefs of the past. There are two examples that grabbed my attention the most out of the video. The first one being

The Importance Of Being Free In South Africa
Nelson Mandela–former president of South African, a national hero who spent years being incarcerated and never stop fighting for justice and
freedom. This man said: "For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others."
Like many other great leaders, Mandela spent years on the path of freeing his people. It has been decades since the battle for freedom, are we truly

Australia being a multicultural country, is a popular immigration country that attracts millions of students and workers. It is a win–win for both the
immigrants to have a better chance of broadening their horizons and knowing the world in a different perspective and for the economy boosting in
Australia. When the immigrants are able to breathe the fresh air and enhancing their skills in a well–developed environment, are they really free in the
country they choose to come? Are all of them being treated fairly and equally? We know that there is no absolutely freedom in any places of the
world. Back to the Mandela quote which I truly agree, everybody is born with the right of being treated fairly and equally in spite of their race, skin
colors and gender. And the right to be free is the foundation of everything. Anybody should be able to choose the life they want, the stuff they feel
like doing and live in a life that is free of judgement. So the purpose of this essay is to

Religious Beliefs And Beliefs
People can come from different ethnicities and cultures and live similar lives as they acculturate here in the United States. The family views of faith
being passed down from generation to generation and the same faith are expected to be carried on by their children. The religious views become
rooted into the children who will then grow up and the same way about those with different sexual orientation than what one was brought up with.
The family and religious views also carry on to how you treat others, those with disabilities and not able bodied. But not all continue to follow the
views, as time passes and children grow, they educate themselves and can have their own views. Sherry Jiang was born in the United States to
immigrant parents who migrated here in the 1980s. Her both parents, Chinese, did not speak English and were of Buddhist religion whom spoke
Cantonese. They would teach Sherry to believe in karma and that by being morally right, she would receive the best of luck. If she were to be
morally evil, then she would receive bad luck and fate and destiny would take their course with her. She and her brothers, one older and one
younger, were also taught to believe in superstitions. For example, they were taught to avoid the number four because it sounds like the word "die,"
therefore they must avoid it and try to do stuff in threes or fives. Their religion teaches them to remember that those who practice a different religion
are trying to achieve the same goal and that all want happiness. As happy as Sherry is, she understands that she is not happy about all the views her
family has imposed on her. One thing she dislikes, is that now that she is in graduate school, she has learned to be more open to those with different
sexual orientations than her upbringings. Her family consisted of a father, mother, and three children, but now she has learned to accept same sex
couples, although her family and faith may not approve of it. Sherry has a difficult time speaking of it and cannot bring it up to her family because the
conversations become intense. Her family is exceptionally educated because education was important to the family. Father and mother were extremely
intense about making sure their three

Interview Paper: Lucy's Religious Beliefs
I interviewed a woman who practices and is very committed to Roman Catholicism, I'll call her Lucy for the sake of anonymity. Lucy left her home
in Puerto Rico when she was about thirty and is now raising a family here. Her faith came from her parents and was a very important thing to her
family growing up. The values her family instilled into her are basically the same as the ones she holds now. Lucy's faith has shaped much of who she
is today. She believes her involvement in her youth group not only helped her develop leadership and social skills, but also inspired her to be a
professor, a job she loves very much. An act of faith that she believes in deeply and revolves her life around is service, the act of helping others. Lucy

and I didn't really know what to say to get her to elaborate. I was a little nervous then because I wasn't sure if we'd have enough to talk about.
However, she was very warm and welcoming and that made me feel a little more comfortable. As we continued, I found the parts of her life and religion

Happiness and Religious Beliefs
As humans, happiness and an over all high wellbeing is something we all desire. Some search for wellbeing and happiness through extravagant
possessions, some through alcohol and drugs and some through religious belief. It seems that two out of the three groups I mentioned are missing the
target. Those who are using possessions, drugs and alcohol, could learn from those who are seeking wellbeing and happiness through religious belief. It
seems that those with some kind of faith or religious beliefs have an over all higher wellbeing and happiness than everyone else. Gallup scientists
have conducted a worldwide study of wellbeing. Upon extensive research Gallup has named five universal factors of our overall wellbeing that are
essential to all people: physical wellbeing, social wellbeing, career wellbeing, community wellbeing and financial wellbeing (Gallup). Each of the
elements play a part in our over all wellbeing and in the end our happiness. Not one of these alone or even four out of the five of these elements will
give you the highest overall wellbeing. Each of these elements plays a crucial and large roll in our wellbeing and happiness. People around the world
who have religious faith, whether their practicing faith is Muslim, Catholic, Buddhist, Christian or any other faith, they reportedly have a higher overall
wellbeing and happiness then those with no religious faith or beliefs. Physical wellbeing, which Gallup describes as, " having good health and enough

Packet Questions #11
Describe your religious/spiritual/philosophical beliefs at this time in your life and how you formulated these beliefs.
My religious/spiritual/philosophical beliefs in this time of my life are that I was raised to think I was catholic, but now, religion does not play a part
of my life. I think what caused me to stop believing in religion was when I was still with my father, and I would pray to God to help me to leave him
and stop being so depressed, but I felt that it never worked. As I studied different religions, and what they believe in, I realized that I didn't agree
with many of the beliefs. I came to a conclusion that I don't need to depend on a religion to make a change in my life, but I am in control of my
outcome. Even though I don't believe in any religion, believe in good ethics, such as being respectful, and good to people.

Some of my biggest fears are losing people I care about, and not being in control of something. One of my biggest fears is losing the relationships of
people I care about, even if it's harmful to me, both psychologically, and emotionally. I feel this way, because I think that relationships are important,
and I want to try to keep them, but I tend to sacrifice my own needs, thoughts, and opinions to keep that relationship, such as when I was friends with
Lexi, I let her talk me into not making good decisions, only so I could keep her friendship.

Assess the view that religious beliefs and practices are changing to reflect a new era of diversity and choice.
In the recent years there has been evidence to support that religious activity and religious beliefs are declining in the UK e.g. the rise of new religious
movements such as Jehovah's witnesses (sect), but some sociologists reject this and say that religion isn't declining it is just changing to fit into a
more increasingly changing society. Davie is one of these sociologists; in her view religion is taking a different, more privatised form. She explains
this by giving the example of that people no longer go to church because they feel they have to or because it is respectable to do so. She says that

the Church and Mosque as well as the growing importance of individual choice in matters of religion e.g. self healing.
Hervieu–LГ©ger's view backs up that religious beliefs and practices are changing to reflect a new era of diversity and choice because of the fact that
people are now choosing what to belief in and choosing different parts of different religions to belief in, rather than religiously following the teachings
of the bible without question.
Lyon describes how globalisation has increased the movements of ideas and beliefs across national boundaries. Due to the central role played by
postmodern society by the media and information technology, which saturates us with images and messages from around the globe. These ideas have
become disembedded, for example the electronic church and televangelism disembed religion from the real, local churches and relocated it on the
internet allowing believers to express their faith without physically attending church. Lyon describes a harvest day crusade held not in church but at
Disneyland as an example of how the boundaries between different areas of social life become blurred in postmodern society. As a result religion
becomes de– institutionalised, being removed from their original location in the church, they become a cultural resource that individuals can adapt for
their own purposes.
Also postmodern society involves the growth of consumerism and especially the idea that we now construct our identities

Understanding Other People's Religious Beliefs
Understanding other peoples' religious beliefs in addition to our own is essential to tolerance because one's faith often define who they are. "I fully
agree that all religions lead to one truth, the Absolute truth. There is One truth. There is only one Goal, but there are various paths. Each religion is
right in its own way." (Sri Chinmoy) It is the willingness to cooperate with individuals of different faiths, different customs and of different beliefs who
you do not agree with without prejudice.
In the United States like in many other countries, the concept of religion in relation to acceptance, freedom and understanding is fundamentally a part of
our culture as a whole. Federalists, James Madison and Alexander Hamilton, drafted the Bills of Rights to the U.S. Constitution in response to the
anti–Federalists such as Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry distrust in the idea of trusting Congress with our God–given or natural rights of the people.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof or abridging the freedom of speech, or of
the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." (Constitution) and although,
over the years since the ratification of the Constitution, these rights have been twisted and turned to properly fit the social standards of the years by the
authority, their basis remain an essential part of the underlying

preforming marriage services. It would also give them protection from discrimination if they refused to provide services to anyone they believed
infringed on their religious beliefs. This bill would also, allow faith based organization the right to discriminate against hiring individuals based on
religious belief. Those against the bill were concerned it would allow citizens of Georgia to be discriminated against based on their sexual

Essay on Norman Maclean's A River Runs Through It
Norman Maclean's A River Runs Through It
Throughout A River Runs Through It, Norman Maclean emphasizes the relationship between nature, art, and faith. The concise, simple sentence with
which he chooses to open his story captures the essence of all one hundred pages: in his family, 'there was no clear line between religion and fly fishing'
(1). Reverend Maclean believes that both fly fishing and spiritual belief are 'exact arts,' if such a term can exist without paradox. The Reverend
holds the firm conviction that 'all good things ' trout as well as eternal salvation ' come by grace and grace comes by art and art does not come easy'

Spirituality, at its best, resembles a river, both dependable and mysterious. The Reverend, with his respect for tradition, embodies the steady
timelessness that rivers and God share, while Paul?s stubborn wild streak represents the entities? indefinite, uncontainable quality. Through his spare yet
lyrical prose, Maclean manages to both explicate and illustrate a balance between a prudent, rational Protestant existence and an unrestrained,
whimsical one. This elusive equilibrium is Maclean?s path to faith. Religious belief should strive to be unshakeably firm while also flexible and
ever–evolving; in this way, human convictions can serve the same unifying capability which Maclean claims for rivers. ?Eventually,? he says, ?all
things merge into one, and a river runs through it? (104). Faith, along with rivers, leads to this universal understanding and harmony.
This struggle to attain the proper balance ? the quest to ?pick up God?s rhythms? ? manifests itself repeatedly in both the book and the film. At the
opening of the movie, a young Norman is seen dutifully showing his father completed writing exercises over and over. Finally, after a work ethic of
the most Puritan variety, he is finally set free from his schoolwork, allowed to fish with Paul for the

The Imbalance Between Uniformity And Diversity
To match beliefs about diversity with practice, it becomes necessary to address the imbalance between uniformity and diversity. Australia is the
biggest example of having multiculturalism. In 2011, the Census revealed that over a quarter (26%) of Australia 's population was born overseas and a
further one fifth (20%) had at least one overseas–born parent. This pattern of migration is evident in the make up of the richly diverse society that has
been recorded in the 2011 Census. This diversity can be seen in the variety of languages, religions, ancestries and birthplaces reported by Australians

To claim equity in schools it is necessary to eradicate the social injustice issues with the students having different religious beliefs. Talking about

reason Mr. Polk should be allowed to wear his dreadlocks based on his religious beliefs. As long as Mr. Polk's dreadlocks are clean and neat I do not see

Compare And Contrast Reading Poetry

so why do so many teenagers and young adults consider this to be such a difficult task? Some may consider poems to be difficult because of the vague
titles, strange layouts, and uncommon language. However, many consider the main reason for poetry being difficult to understand because many
pieces of poetry are symbolic. Because a majority of people are not accustomed to thinking symbolically, they often find poetry to be confusing
because they take each word in a poem literally. In other words, people who read poetry cannot read poetry like they would other literary works

could read in his or her life. Edward Hirsch describes reading poetry as "a perpetual beginning" (How to Read a Poem, 1999). Hirsch does not only
describe poems this way because each poem is unique, but he also implies that one must begin each poem with a fresh, new outlook on this poem,
hence the "perpetual beginning" (How to Read a Poem,

Religious Beliefs And Religious Dilemmas
Amongst religions, each one holds a variety of practices and beliefs. "The religion then of every man must be left to the conviction and conscience of
every... man to exercise it as these may dictate." – James Madison. This quote states that every man has their own right to believe and practice
whatever they please. Child Jehovah witnesses should not be forced to be held back from undergoing blood transfusions when needed because
although religious freedom exists, it is their individual uninfluenced choice and because it should not be left to the parent's decisions based on their
religious beliefs'.
There is no question that a child's welfare is paramount, that is why in 1952, the Supreme Court justified compulsory blood transfusion based on four
points, one point being decisions based on religious beliefs. The court clearly stated that parents cannot chose to be responsible for their child's death. It
is given that the First Amendment of the Constitution guarantees freedom concerning religion, expression, assembly, and the right to petition. It forbids
Congress from both promoting one religion over others and restricting an individual's religious practices. It guarantees freedom of expression by
prohibiting Congress from restricting the press or the rights of individuals to speak freely.
However, citizens under this law such as Child Jehovah witnesses are protected under this amendment and are not obligated to undergo treatment such
as blood transfusions. This practice is

The Slavery Of The United States
Before the 19th C, literature in the United States (US) was largely characterized on the basis of its diverse nature. Using different forms of
documentations such as travel accounts and journals, early European explorers noted down their different experiences in the New World. Owing to the
fact that these new Explorers were very religious, most of their writings were defined by their religious convictions especially the Puritan faith. In
addition to these writings being shaped by religion, most of the narratives revolved around the common phenomenon of slavery. It was the time when
emancipation was being advocated by many people especially in the North States which was anti–slavery. Most of the narratives in those times

Before the coming of the Europeans, the natives held the best parts of the land and when these settlers came, they took the fertile lands and most
economical viable lands for themselves. Thus, the economy of the US continued to grow while the state of the native Indians continued to worsen as
they lost their power and resources. It could not have been possible for the US to have developed in those exponential terms without acquiring land
from the natives at almost no cost. When the settlers set their feet in the New World, they had one agenda which was to achieve economic growth of
the new land at all costs. It was then achieved at the expense of the Native Indians who had to be stripped of their land and resources. In most of the
narratives, there is a lot of Puritan religious agenda that is directly based on the Bible as their religious authority. They base their arguments on the fact
that God promises to freely provide for his children through His grace. This kind of belief is not found within the Native Indians' religious belief
system and thus they were viewed as Godless. In a way, the Western Christian values largely despised on the religious system of the Indians which
heightened the tensions between the two communities. This textual exchange between factual and spiritual information within the

The Origin Of Superstitions In The Modern World
Superstitions have always been a part of the human psyche and will continue to affect the lives of the many people who value them as time goes on.
Most people, whether they admit to it or not, foster a small belief in a couple superstitions and will continuously do them, unbeknownst to themselves.
Most superstitions have ancient origins, as in the ancient world there was little rationale and practicality behind the actions of the people as the world
was more of a mystery back then than it is today. Although these superstitions have ancient origins, they are still very present in the 21st century. One
widely known superstition is wishing on a shooting star for good luck. In the first century, Claudius Ptolemy, a Greco–Roman mathematician and
astronomer, theorized that gods looked down on Earth and that shooting stars were the result of such actions by the gods. So it was believed that by
wishing upon these stars you were in direct contact with the gods and you could therefore communicate to them your wishes. Other ancient cultures
viewed them to be human souls or falling angels, but all held the same tradition of wishing for fortune in their life when seeing one. This is still
present today in cultures all over the world and despite holding different religious beliefs, this superstition is common ground between cultures all over
the world. For example, in Chile one must pick up a stone at the same time they make a wish on the shooting star, while in the Philippines you need

Spirituality And Spirituality : How Personality And...
Death is something that will eventually happen to everyone. Some people are more comfortable with the idea of dying than others. Why is this? Are
some people just innately more fearful of dying than others or is there something else that impacts this fear? There is mixed evidence that religiosity
and spirituality have an association with the level of anxiety that people feel about the prospect of dying. There is also evidence that people with
certain personality traits are more likely to be religious than others. There is lots of evidence from empirical research that has focused on religiosity
/spirituality and how it relates to death anxiety. There has also been much research conducted as to how personality is related to religiosity and
spirituality.
Much of the research that has been conducted on personality and religion has used the Five Factor Model (FFM) personality scale as a measure of
personality. One such study that was conducted at San Diego State University by Chad Barrett and Scott Roesch (2009) looked at religious orientation
and FFM personality traits. They operationally defined religious orientation (RO) as, " how people experience religion" and consisting of Intrinsic,
Extrinsic, and Quest orientations (Barrett & Roesch, 2009, p. 195). Individuals described by intrinsic religiousness view their religion as the
framework for their lives, and they try to consistently live the religion they believe. Extrinsically–oriented individuals are generally concerned

Religious Beliefs And The Role Of Dress In The Religious...
Religious ideologies regarding dress are based on religious organizations individual dogmas, who believe that your outwardly appearance should reflect
your inner beliefs. Similarly, adhering to a strict code of dress, that symbolizes its group's traditions and customs, also helps in controlling the body's
sexuality. Hunt–Hurst and Miller–Spillman (2012) stated that being "well–dressed (modestly) is a religious duty and not a personal preference" (p.
266). Dress in a matter of speaking is an outwardly symbol of religious identification and showing ones connectedness to their religious organization.
Arthur (n.d.) believes "a group identity is projected through dress because people use self–presentation and self–promotion to visually present identity
that is congruent with their belief systems" (Religion and Dress, para. 1). Since each religious organization perceives the role of dress, as it pertains to
the expression of identity, differently one must also understand the basis of said religious organizations beliefs in order to comprehend how their
beliefs mirror the role of dress. Islam is a monotheistic faith, one that believes in a single God, emphasizes submission to God or Allah, as well as the
group over the individual. The Qur'an, the literal word of God, lays out the role of dress and its meaning for both men and women (Hunt–Hurst &
Miller–Spillman, 2012; Islam, 2017). According to the Qur'an men are to lower their gaze and be modest, which is purer for them,

docile house cat. He has been tamed, but he still acts instinctually, swimming for the lifeboat in search of shelter and killing the hyena and the
blind castaway for food. When the two wash up on the shore of Mexico, Richard Parker doesn't draw out his parting with Pi, he simply runs off
into the jungle, never to be seen again. Though Richard Parker is quite fearsome, ironically his presence helps Pi stay alive. Alone on the lifeboat,
Pi has many issues to face in addition to the tiger onboard: lack of food and water, predatory marine life, treacherous sea currents, and exposure to
the elements. Overwhelmed by the circumstances and terrified of dying, Pi becomes distraught and unable to take action. However, he soon realizes
that his most immediate threat is Richard Parker. His other problems now temporarily forgotten, Pi manages, through several training exercises, to
dominate Parker. This success gives him confidence, making his other obstacles seem less insurmountable. Renewed, Pi is able to take concrete steps
toward ensuring his continued existence: searching for food and keeping himself motivated. Caring and providing for Richard Parker keeps Pi busy

Reflection In Night By Elie Wiesel
A Woman named Catherine Woodiwiss once said "Trauma permanently changes us. ... There is no 'back to the old me.' You are different now, full
stop." In the book Night by Elie Wiesel The main character, the author, and his family go through a traumatizing experience. This story is told from the
point of view of Elie but is focused around him and his father's lives in the concentration camps. The story demonstrates a lot about Elie's emotional
state and actions throughout the story and he changes overtime in many ways. Elie Wiesel has been through experiences that have entirely transformed
himself from a young, innocent, religious, and weak boy to a strong, caring, and persevering young man.
From the start of the book when Elie was introduced you could tell he was a family oriented, religious and well behaved young boy. Throughout the
book you can see evidence of religious belief and how often being a Jew is mentioned in the story. Elie talks about himself at the beginning of the book
describing himself with these word:
It is, however, another aspect of this extraordinary book that has held my attention. The child who tells us his story here was one of God's chosen.
From the time he began to think, he lived only for God, studying the Talmud, eager to be initiated into the Kabbalah, wholly dedicated to the Almighty.
(Wiesel xix)
He was very faithful to God and tried to know everything he could about him and was just a young and innocent religious boy. Another trait that Elie
had was being a family oriented boy who seemed to relate to the idea of no man left behind. The text explains a situation when Elie showed signs of
family oriented actions:
Maria, our former maid, came to see us. Sobbing she begged us to come with her toher village where she had prepared a safe shelter. My father
wouldn't hear of it. He told me and my big sister's, "If you wish, go there. I shall stay here with your mother and the little one..." naturally, we refuse to
be separated. (Wiesel 20)
He chose not to leave them and he stayed not wanted to be separated from them. He clearly cares about his family and must be very close with them
in some way, most likely through religious beliefs or practices. Overall Elie started off the beginning

are Jehovah witnesses are not allowed to accept any blood transfusion, not even if it's their own blood that has being preserved. They are not allowed to

Jewish believers' prefer not to have any medical procedures schedule on the Sabbath day. Jews refuse to work or do anything from sundown on

Religious Beliefs, Values, And Norms Of A Culture Essay
Religion is the belief of a higher being that holds all power. It is what shapes the traditions, values, and norms of a culture. In early American
History religion was the celebration of a God or Gods that represented the accomplishments of one's own. The importance of religion was the
simple fact that people represented the type of life they lived based off their religious beliefs. People knew very well what others stood for but they
did not accept it or tolerate it. I feel as though the 'old world' had it worse than what we have now. The old world took matters into their own hands
and did not allow those of other groups to continue their ways of worship. People did not accept different cultures into their villages or places of
praises. The invitation was declined before even presented, they most definitely killed others faster than standing around telling people what they did
wrong by entrusting in those about their religious faith! Back in early American history there was a lot of issues about religious freedom. Without
religion it is impossible for a nation to be shaped because then there would be no political views. If that's true Donald Trump might have not been
president; I bet you we would all be fine with that too. Society today I would have to say is less focused on religion and more directed to
discrimination. Religion played a big important significant factor in early American history especially when it came to other invaders looking to make
a way out of their

The Definition Of Superstition
According to the definition quoted in American Heritage Dictionary, superstition can be defined as "beliefs that are inconsistent with known laws of
nature or what is generally considered rational in a society". (Kramer & Block, 2008) The word superstition is derived from Latin "super" & "sisto"
meaning "the one who is above" or "the one who is not progressive". Dictionary definitions elude to the negative aspect of the concept of superstition
and focuses on the unawareness of the people who believe in such a phenomenon. It is often believed to have stemmed from the fear of unknown.

According to this theory, human beings have the belief or illusion that their actions have direct influence on the events when in reality no such
connection exists. Thus human beings continue to believe in the illusion that they have a measure of control over the events. Therefore, people carry
out superstitious behaviors as they believe that their actions are influencing and controlling the event or situation. This sort of belief is more common
in events which are a mixture of human skill and chance such as in sports where part of the outcome is linked with human skill as well. Such events
further reinforce the illusion of control and therefore the superstitious behavior. (Langer, 1975, 1977; Langer & Roth, 1975) Furthermore, superstitious
behavior development is also linked with perception of loss of control over a situation. A research was conducted in 2004, which established the
inverse relation between the practice of superstitious behavior and the decreased control over the situation. More and more superstitious actions were
carried out with increased loss of control over a situation. (Case, et al,

Rationality in Religious Belief Essay
Rationality in Religious Belief
The obtaining of information is an inseparable part of human life, and therefore in what ever one may do; one will always collect information. To be
of any value, the information collected has to be reliable, and one does not seem to doubt the reliability of evidence because they believe it to be
logical, unless they are a sceptic.
Some say that religion is something we cannot prove because we acknowledge religion through our feelings, mainly our feeling of trust, or of wonder
and awe – sensing that there must be a high being or creator. Religious belief is to have an immense faith, but religious faith is dependant on the fact
that we must exist but existence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They simply cannot; they cannot prove in any way that God had spoken to them, and therefore to the questioner this person could be completely
absurd. And if it cannot to proven, it cannot be rational and a whole nation cannot hold a faith on one or two person's alones claims.
Then again, imagine that this person was you, and you genuinely believed that God had came to you, and told you what religion to follow but of
course you could never prove to any one else that you are not lying, or a fool. To you, no matter how much you were argued against your feelings and
opinions wouldn't changed because it is your personal experience, therefore surely you would never need a rational argument to prove your religious
belief as it is an impossibility to acquire one.
On the other hand, religious faiths nearly all conduct an adequate way to live and behave. Many people follow religions because of faith, upbringing,
personal experience and many other reasons and live by the commandments given to them. If suddenly, there beliefs where proved as wrong then
perhaps there fundamental way of living would change and there would be an increase of havoc in the world. So surely, religion holds many moral
and ethical values and it would be unnecessary to demand a more rational argument for religions to be based upon. And if you feel

Salvation : Truth Or Myth?
Salvation: Truth or Myth
Without belief in God the Savior it is not possible to have salvation from the grips of death. God promises eternal life if we accept Him as our Lord and
Savior. There are those who believe in idols as gods and give sacrifices to those gods to be spared from the wrath of those gods. Also there are those
who believe in scientific evidence alone without a creator or savior. Two authors who write aboutreligion are Langston Hughes short story "Salvation,
and Margaret Mead, "New Superstitions for Old".
It is important to acknowledge and recognize the relationship between salvation and a belief in God. Salvation comes from first having a belief in God
and then accepting him as your Lord and Savior.
Most Christians believe that salvation is being freed from eternal damnation. Hughes had the belief that was instilled by his aunt, which was "My
aunt told me that when you were saved you saw a light, and something happened to you inside! And Jesus came into your life! And God was with
you from then on!"(Hughes 119). Unlike his aunt Hughes did not experience salvation the way she described to him that he would, and therefore
believed that he was not saved. Hughes friend Westley didn't believe either, when he said "God Damn! I'm tired o' sitting here. Lets get up and be
saved."(Hughes 119). Westley and Hughes both gave into peer pressure from the church body and went to the alter thinking that was all they had to do
to receive salvation. Hughes actions have a

Religious Syncretism And Religious Beliefs
Religious syncretism is a blending of two or more religious belief practice into a new system, or the merging into a religious tradition of beliefs from
different traditions. This can occur for many reasons but happens quite frequently in areas where multiple religions exist nearby to each other and are
active in the culture. When a culture is conquered, the conquerors bring their religious beliefs with them, but do not succeed in entirely wiping out the
old beliefs or practices. Such adherents sometimes see syncretism as a betrayal of their pure truth. They feel by adding an incompatible belief ruins
and changes the original concept and practice of the original religion, thus rendering it no longer true. By bringing in a new view, belief, or practice
into a religious system actually distort the original faith.
Many feel religious syncretism is simply not compatible with true Christianity. In fact, any modification to biblical law and principle for the sake of
a "better" religion is heresy. The Bible even says that no one shall add any word to it. The Bible is complete as it stands. Syncretism, in this case, is
the mixing of Christianity with something else such that they become a different gospel. Syncretism happens more than we might know. When
anything is added to the message of the gospel, the true message of Christ is compromised and another gospel can be created that is actually not the
gospel. Syncretism can be most easily seen when two or more starkly contrasting

The "code of the streets" is not widely discussed due to its sensitive nature. No one is going to sit down and tell the way of life in these areas.
Secrets are kept to preserve the enter workings of the streets. It is similar to the dark alleys you read about in novels and newspaper articles. The
benefit to knowing the "code of the streets" is that you can survive in the urban areas without having to deal with the incidents some may

have witnessed almost every crime that can be performed in the areas I have lived in and I did nothing but walk to my home and thank my luck

The Importance Of Freedom In South Africa
As we know, Australia is a multicultural country; a country immigrant yearns to live in. It is also popular for overseas students and workers.
Multiculturalism is not only good for those people broadening their horizons and knowing the world in the other side, but it is also promoting
economic development in Australia. When they are breathing the fresh air, and enhancing other skills in the other environment, are they really feel
free and treated equally and fairly in the other country they choose to stay? Without doubt, there is not absolute freedom in any part of the world.
Everyone has the same rights for being treated fairly and equally whatever their skin color is, which country form and gender. People have rights to
choose their life what it wants to look like, what they want to do, is living in the free of judgement life. Nelson Mandela– the former president of
South Africa, a nation hero who has spending years being incarcerated and never stop fighting for justice and freedom. He like most of other great
leaders spent lots of years on the path for freedom and argues that 'For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that
respects and enhances the freedom of others' (2013). In my view, living to respect the freedom of others means embracing cultural differences,
challenging racial discrimination and respecting religious freedoms.
Firstly, in order to embrace cultural differences, is important for people to feel included in society. It

The Ethics Of Belief System
It is in W. K. Clifford's essay The Ethics of Belief in which the author argues that a belief system based on anything but evidence is immoral. This
argument is made in response to Blaise Pascal's suggestion that it is practically reasonable to live as though God exists as there is no loss in the
wager itself should God exist or not. The case of a ship owner is offered as an example to illustrate the point for genuine justification. Despite fears
that his vessel may not be seaworthy, a ship owner puts those doubts aside and allows the ship, full of emigrants in search of a better life, to set sail.
Having safely sailed numerous voyages and weathered many storms in the past, the ship owner felt confident in putting his trust in Providence.... Show

As previously mentioned, this tale was intended to support the idea of an evidence based belief system. Clifford is of the mind that one's beliefs
are not his own but rather common property being guided by "that general conception of the course of things which has been created by society
for social purposes (p.238)." The idea here is that one has a responsibility to help create the world for their children, their future. Due to the
enormity of this obligation, it is crucial that this notion be applied to all beliefs. In doing so, this aids and strengthens the common goodness of
humankind. We must all question, and find evidence in, what we believe; no one is excused from this universal duty. By dismissing evidence, man
may "keep alive the fatal superstitions which clog his race (p.238)." While it is agreed that this obligation is no easy task, the result is suggested to
provide happiness and security in knowing how to deal with any situation. Allow me to support Clifford's premise by sharing a story from a recently
watched episode of This American Life about a Texas rancher who cloned Chance, his beloved 19–year old Brahman

Religious Beliefs And Its Effects On Children
It is a question that has become increasingly difficult for religious parents to completely ignore: Are parents who raise their children to hold religious
beliefs instilling a form of permanent indoctrination? Many atheists argue this today, one of the most famous being zoologist Richard Dawkins. In a
detailed article about this topic, he stated, "There really is an important difference between including your children in harmless traditions, and forcing
on them un–evidenced opinions about the nature of life or the cosmos" (Dawkins). In another interview he said, "Children do need to be protected so
that they can have a proper education and not be indoctrinated in whatever religion their parents happen to have been brought up in" (Humphreys).
Atheists argue that brainwashing plays into account when raising a child with religious beliefs, which leads to an influence on their future, and way of
thinking. These individuals propose that we should raise children without any religious beliefs at all and allow them to reach a level of intellectual
maturity so that they can choose their own system of beliefs. Some might support this argument and find it reasonable. However, due to the fact that
parents raise their children according to their own beliefs, having the best interest for their kids at heart and contradicting with the concept of
brainwashing by the number of atheists there are today, religious parents have every right to raise their children according to their own

My Experience With Diversity Throughout My Childhood,...

  • 1. My Experience With Diversity Throughout My Childhood,... As I reflect over my life, I realize it has been filled with diversity throughout my childhood, marriage, and career. My experience with diversity dates back to birth. I was born and raised in a small town, Moss Point, MS. and notably the last state to abolish slavery, currently has a population of 13,704 people. The town consists of 73% Blacks or African Americans, 23% Caucasian, 1% Hispanic or Latino and 1% bi–racial. Regardless of my town's homogeneous population, I grew up accepting diversity and was taught about different cultures even amid the same racial group. One of the first experiences of diversity I can recall as a child was the various religious beliefs within the Black community. My parents believed "exposure to the world around you" was one of the primary factors to raising a well–rounded individual. Therefore, we often visited different churches of various faiths. Within my own family, there were different doctrines. My great–grandmother was Pentecostal, my grandmother is Baptist and my mother is Atheist. While everyone seemed to have different belief systems, I participated in them all. I had to learn to adapt to each religious institution. In one church I was allowed to wear pants and women could also be pastors; whereas, in another, women could only were full length dresses and were not allowed in the pulpit. Nonetheless, my parents consistently reiterated the world is comprised of many different races and complexities which in turn make the universe a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Religious Beliefs Of AntigoneBy Sophocles King Creon puts his own laws above the gods laws and Sophocles shows how this story reflects his religious belief.King Creon makes a law about if anyone tries to give Polyneices a proper funeral and if the people touch him they will be killed. If the King does not go through with the punishment, people will think he is weak and they will take advantage of him. The King niece Antigone was caught prepping her brother for burial and the King tries to help her get out of trouble but, she testified for committing the crime. He knows the rules of the gods and that all people are to have a proper burial so their souls can reach the after world. King Creon believes that Polyneices was a traitor and he should not have a burial but, eaten by wild animals as punishment. Many people believe Antigone did the right thing and should not be punished but, Creon must stand behind his word to show not even his family can break the law. "The Greeks regraded the burial of the dead as one of the most sacred duties. It neglect involving an offense against the dead; for, according to the popular belief, the soul obtained no rest in the realms of the dead,so long as the body remained unburied" (DLVF). King Creon puts his own laws above the gods laws. Sophocles shows his belief by showing what happens to those who disobeys the gods laws and they will be punished for it. King Creon lost all of his son, wife, and nieces because of his action. He was not completely wrong for not wanting to give Polyneices a proper burial because he was a traitor who killed his brother over the power and sure Eteocles for not sharing the throne but, that is reason to go to war with your own people. King Creon was very cautious person and did not trust many people but, power can change people for the worst. He could have handled the situation better by obeying the laws of the gods and still could have punished Polyneices by not allowing noone to speak his name or something of that sort to show what traitor get. King Creon later changes his ways after he locks Antigone in a bunker and comes down to free her fearing the wrath of the gods and goes to her finding she hanged herself, his son killed himself and later his wife curses him and kills herself. • 3. Religion in Shakespeare The religion of William Shakespeare is a subject about which very few people have a complete understanding. His plays and poems contain an almost overwhelming number of biblical references and allusions to biblical thinking, which can be seen as either Protestant or Catholic in understanding. His concealment of various understandings and interpretations of religious ideology make it difficult to ascertain his own religious beliefs, however, through further analysis of [insert names of plays], once can begin to understand the socioeconomic issues he sought to raise through his biblical allusions. Sandra Hole's The Background of Divine Action in King Lear comments on how the play "is a religious rather than a secular play in the sense that its real focus is not on the hero but on the background of divine action." (Hole, 217) A lot of Shakespeare's plays are set in religious environments were allusions to Protestant and Catholic doctrines reflect Britain's religious stance in that period of time. The original source material for King Lear, The moste famous Chronicle historye of Leire king of England and his Three Daughters, was abandoned, with Shakespeare's play being set in pre–Christian Britain. This may be indicative of Shakespeare's desire to reduce the characters to basic states of religious or atheistic belief, so as to question religion itself. The characters in Shakespeare's King Lear are represented as belonging to varying degrees of religious beliefs, from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis of Tony Harrison's Poems Essays Analysis of Tony Harrison's Poems After reading and analysing the three Tony Harrison poems I found that, they portray many relationships between families with three members. In all of the poems Harrison was the son and they talked about the relationships between him and his father. The first poem is 'Book Ends'. This poem shows us how the death of the mother affects father and son. Throughout the poem, Harrison shows the broken relationship he has with his father, commenting "We never could talk much". His... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first line is presented in an unusual way, using words that the father would probably not understand, and describes the speed at which the dead mother was cremated. The last word of the first line 'dead' instantly shows us the subject of the poem. The second poem is 'Long Distance', his still continues the portrayal of the broken relationship between Harrison and his father, but also shows how the father still lives without her and how he remembers her. The title, 'Long Distance', can be analyzed as a metaphor used to describe the mentally long distance between Harrison and his father following his mother's death, or as the physical journey between Harrison and his father, as Harrison lives in America whilst his father lives in England. This poem also hints that the father is miserable, "Your bed's got two wrong sides". Here the poet uses the expression 'getting out of the wrong side of the bed' and by saying 'two wrong sides' he shows us that his father is a very miserable man, and is very lonely, we can see this from the following quote "can't stand it no more, this empty house". Due to Harrison moving away from his father he felt very guilty. His father had many health related problems, having had heart–attacks, cataracts and being diabetic, ... • 5. Tim Tebow Religious Beliefs Tim Tebow, Colin Kaepernick, and Kurt Warner are popular outspoken athletes who express their personal beliefs on the field. Some fans love these athletes expressing their beliefs on the field, but some of their outspoken beliefs are a distraction. Their expression of beliefs have led to more athletes making their personal beliefs known, but not every athlete's personal belief on the field are about religion. The outspoken beliefs of athletes should be banned from professional sports if sports fans believe it is such a problem, but when they do that they should discourage athletes from having any sort of tattoo on them. Professional athletes sharing their personal and religious beliefs on the field, should not be outlawed by sports coaches to express themselves with their personal belief that include religious tattoos on the field, because professional athletes sharing their personal and religious beliefs on the field distract fans from the game. One of these popular athletes is Tim Tebow, acknowledged by many as the greatest player in the history of college football. Tebow went onto play in theNational Football League for the Denver Broncos and New York Jets and his popularity provided a platform that he used became expression for his faith. After being traded by the Denver Broncos in 2012, his number fifteen has become the league's highest selling jersey. After the Denver Broncos traded Tebow to the New York Jets in early 2012, Tebow continued to be featured in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Characteristics And Contributions Of Pastoralists Pastoralists are herders that herd cattle, sheep and other animals. Strayer states, "Known as herders, pastoralists, or nomads, such people emerged in Central Asia, the Arabian Peninsula... What they had in common was mobility, for they moved seasonally as they followed the changing patterns of vegetation necessary as pasture for their animals."(39) Pastoralists moved constantly with their animals in order to feed them. When they moved, they interacted with other civilizations and traded some of their animals for other luxurious goods. Traders are people who exchange goods with other people and civilizations. Mesopotamia and Egypt traded many goods with one another, especially extravagant things. " Both Mesopotamia and Egypt carried on long–distance trade, mostly luxury goods destined for the elite."(85) Even though it doesn't identify what the luxury goods are, we probably know that it was spices and commodities. They only traded goods for the upper class not for "peasants" which means that they didn't value them as much. Anyway, when they trade it spreads different commodities, animals, crops and technologies everywhere. Travelers are adventurers, people who journey. An Egyptian traveler interprets what happened on his journey to Nubia, " I came down with three hundred donkeys laden with incense, ebony... panther skins, elephant tusks, throw sticks, and all sorts of good products"(86) This traveler describes what he has received and it's fascinating all the luxurious goods ... • 7. Superstition Superstition "is a belief, half–belief, or practice for which there appears to be no rational substance." People tend to believe that they have their own certain knowledge or evidence that supports religious beliefs or philosophical reasoning's. This leads people into believing that they have more control than the reality and actuality of all situations and circumstances. Many customs that we take for granted as being a "normal" part of our culture have actually evolved from superstitious beliefs of the past. There are two examples that grabbed my attention the most out of the video. The first one being in 1948 American Psychologist BF Skinner reported some unusual animal behavior. • 8. The Importance Of Being Free In South Africa Nelson Mandela–former president of South African, a national hero who spent years being incarcerated and never stop fighting for justice and freedom. This man said: "For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others." Like many other great leaders, Mandela spent years on the path of freeing his people. It has been decades since the battle for freedom, are we truly living in a free world now? пј€ Nelson Mandela: in his own words., 2013пј‰ Australia being a multicultural country, is a popular immigration country that attracts millions of students and workers. It is a win–win for both the immigrants to have a better chance of broadening their horizons and knowing the world in a different perspective and for the economy boosting in Australia. When the immigrants are able to breathe the fresh air and enhancing their skills in a well–developed environment, are they really free in the country they choose to come? Are all of them being treated fairly and equally? We know that there is no absolutely freedom in any places of the world. Back to the Mandela quote which I truly agree, everybody is born with the right of being treated fairly and equally in spite of their race, skin colors and gender. And the right to be free is the foundation of everything. Anybody should be able to choose the life they want, the stuff they feel like doing and live in a life that is free of judgement. • 9. Religious Beliefs And Beliefs People can come from different ethnicities and cultures and live similar lives as they acculturate here in the United States. The family views of faith being passed down from generation to generation and the same faith are expected to be carried on by their children. The religious views become rooted into the children who will then grow up and the same way about those with different sexual orientation than what one was brought up with. The family and religious views also carry on to how you treat others, those with disabilities and not able bodied. But not all continue to follow the views, as time passes and children grow, they educate themselves and can have their own views. Sherry Jiang was born in the United States to immigrant parents who migrated here in the 1980s. Her both parents, Chinese, did not speak English and were of Buddhist religion whom spoke Cantonese. They would teach Sherry to believe in karma and that by being morally right, she would receive the best of luck. If she were to be morally evil, then she would receive bad luck and fate and destiny would take their course with her. She and her brothers, one older and one younger, were also taught to believe in superstitions. For example, they were taught to avoid the number four because it sounds like the word "die," therefore they must avoid it and try to do stuff in threes or fives. Their religion teaches them to remember that those who practice a different religion are trying to achieve the same goal and that all want happiness. As happy as Sherry is, she understands that she is not happy about all the views her family has imposed on her. One thing she dislikes, is that now that she is in graduate school, she has learned to be more open to those with different sexual orientations than her upbringings. Her family consisted of a father, mother, and three children, but now she has learned to accept same sex couples, although her family and faith may not approve of it. Sherry has a difficult time speaking of it and cannot bring it up to her family because the conversations become intense. Her family is exceptionally educated because education was important to the family. Father and mother were extremely intense about making sure their three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lucy left her home in Puerto Rico when she was about thirty and is now raising a family here. Her faith came from her parents and was a very important thing to her family growing up. The values her family instilled into her are basically the same as the ones she holds now. Lucy's faith has shaped much of who she is today. She believes her involvement in her youth group not only helped her develop leadership and social skills, but also inspired her to be a professor, a job she loves very much. I was a little nervous then because I wasn't sure if we'd have enough to talk about. However, she was very warm and welcoming and that made me feel a little more comfortable. • 11. Happiness and Religious Beliefs As humans, happiness and an over all high wellbeing is something we all desire. Some search for wellbeing and happiness through extravagant possessions, some through alcohol and drugs and some through religious belief. It seems that two out of the three groups I mentioned are missing the target. Those who are using possessions, drugs and alcohol, could learn from those who are seeking wellbeing and happiness through religious belief. It seems that those with some kind of faith or religious beliefs have an over all higher wellbeing and happiness than everyone else. Gallup scientists have conducted a worldwide study of wellbeing. Upon extensive research Gallup has named five universal factors of our overall wellbeing that are essential to all people: physical wellbeing, social wellbeing, career wellbeing, community wellbeing and financial wellbeing (Gallup). Each of the elements play a part in our over all wellbeing and in the end our happiness. Not one of these alone or even four out of the five of these elements will give you the highest overall wellbeing. Each of these elements plays a crucial and large roll in our wellbeing and happiness. People around the world who have religious faith, whether their practicing faith is Muslim, Catholic, Buddhist, Christian or any other faith, they reportedly have a higher overall wellbeing and happiness then those with no religious faith or beliefs. • 12. Importance Of Religious And Spiritual / Philosophical... Packet Questions #11 Describe your religious/spiritual/philosophical beliefs at this time in your life and how you formulated these beliefs. My religious/spiritual/philosophical beliefs in this time of my life are that I was raised to think I was catholic, but now, religion does not play a part of my life. I think what caused me to stop believing in religion was when I was still with my father, and I would pray to God to help me to leave him and stop being so depressed, but I felt that it never worked. As I studied different religions, and what they believe in, I realized that I didn't agree with many of the beliefs. I came to a conclusion that I don't need to depend on a religion to make a change in my life, but I am in control of my outcome. Even though I don't believe in any religion, believe in good ethics, such as being respectful, and good to people. Packet Questions #12 My biggest fear(s) is/are _____ because _______ Some of my biggest fears are losing people I care about, and not being in control of something. One of my biggest fears is losing the relationships of people I care about, even if it's harmful to me, both psychologically, and emotionally. I feel this way, because I think that relationships are important, and I want to try to keep them, but I tend to sacrifice my own needs, thoughts, and opinions to keep that relationship, such as when I was friends with Lexi, I let her talk me into not making good decisions, only so I could keep her friendship. ... In the recent years there has been evidence to support that religious activity and religious beliefs are declining in the UK e.g. the rise of new religious movements such as Jehovah's witnesses (sect), but some sociologists reject this and say that religion isn't declining it is just changing to fit into a more increasingly changing society. Davie is one of these sociologists; in her view religion is taking a different, more privatised form. She explains this by giving the example of that people no longer go to church because they feel they have to or because it is respectable to do so. She says that although churchgoing ... Hervieu–LГ©ger's view backs up that religious beliefs and practices are changing to reflect a new era of diversity and choice because of the fact that people are now choosing what to belief in and choosing different parts of different religions to belief in, rather than religiously following the teachings of the bible without question. Lyon describes how globalisation has increased the movements of ideas and beliefs across national boundaries. Due to the central role played by postmodern society by the media and information technology, which saturates us with images and messages from around the globe. These ideas have become disembedded, for example the electronic church and televangelism disembed religion from the real, local churches and relocated it on the internet allowing believers to express their faith without physically attending church. Lyon describes a harvest day crusade held not in church but at Disneyland as an example of how the boundaries between different areas of social life become blurred in postmodern society. As a result religion becomes de– institutionalised, being removed from their original location in the church, they become a cultural resource that individuals can adapt for their own purposes. Also postmodern society involves the growth of consumerism and especially the idea that we now construct our identities ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

"I fully agree that all religions lead to one truth, the Absolute truth. There is One truth. There is only one Goal, but there are various paths. Each religion is right in its own way." (Sri Chinmoy) It is the willingness to cooperate with individuals of different faiths, different customs and of different beliefs who you do not agree with without prejudice. In the United States like in many other countries, the concept of religion in relation to acceptance, freedom and understanding is fundamentally a part of our culture as a whole. Federalists, James Madison and Alexander Hamilton, drafted the Bills of Rights to the U.S. Constitution in response to the anti–Federalists such as Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry distrust in the idea of trusting Congress with our God–given or natural rights of the people. It would also give them protection from discrimination if they refused to provide services to anyone they believed infringed on their religious beliefs. This bill would also, allow faith based organization the right to discriminate against hiring individuals based on religious belief. Those against the bill were concerned it would allow citizens of Georgia to be discriminated against based on their sexual orientation. Those in favor of the bill felt it supported their Christian principles. Governor Deal made the right decision by vetoing the bill in March 2016. Essay on Norman Maclean's A River Runs Through It Norman Maclean's A River Runs Through It Throughout A River Runs Through It, Norman Maclean emphasizes the relationship between nature, art, and faith. The concise, simple sentence with which he chooses to open his story captures the essence of all one hundred pages: in his family, 'there was no clear line between religion and fly fishing' (1). Reverend Maclean believes that both fly fishing and spiritual belief are 'exact arts,' if such a term can exist without paradox. Theoretically, reading poetry seems like a simple task, so why do so many teenagers and young adults consider this to be such a difficult task? Some may consider poems to be difficult because of the vague titles, strange layouts, and uncommon language. However, many consider the main reason for poetry being difficult to understand because many pieces of poetry are symbolic. Because a majority of people are not accustomed to thinking symbolically, they often find poetry to be confusing because they take each word in a poem literally. In other words, people who read poetry cannot read poetry like they would other literary works because poetry should not be taken literally. The Origin Of Superstitions In The Modern World Superstitions have always been a part of the human psyche and will continue to affect the lives of the many people who value them as time goes on. Most people, whether they admit to it or not, foster a small belief in a couple superstitions and will continuously do them, unbeknownst to themselves. Most superstitions have ancient origins, as in the ancient world there was little rationale and practicality behind the actions of the people as the world was more of a mystery back then than it is today. Although these superstitions have ancient origins, they are still very present in the 21st century. One widely known superstition is wishing on a shooting star for good luck. In the first century, Claudius Ptolemy, a Greco–Roman mathematician and astronomer, theorized that gods looked down on Earth and that shooting stars were the result of such actions by the gods. So it was believed that by wishing upon these stars you were in direct contact with the gods and you could therefore communicate to them your wishes. Other ancient cultures viewed them to be human souls or falling angels, but all held the same tradition of wishing for fortune in their life when seeing one. Why is this? Are some people just innately more fearful of dying than others or is there something else that impacts this fear? There is mixed evidence that religiosity and spirituality have an association with the level of anxiety that people feel about the prospect of dying. There is also evidence that people with certain personality traits are more likely to be religious than others. There is lots of evidence from empirical research that has focused on religiosity /spirituality and how it relates to death anxiety. There has also been much research conducted as to how personality is related to religiosity and spirituality. Religious ideologies regarding dress are based on religious organizations individual dogmas, who believe that your outwardly appearance should reflect your inner beliefs. Similarly, adhering to a strict code of dress, that symbolizes its group's traditions and customs, also helps in controlling the body's sexuality. Hunt–Hurst and Miller–Spillman (2012) stated that being "well–dressed (modestly) is a religious duty and not a personal preference" (p. 266). Dress in a matter of speaking is an outwardly symbol of religious identification and showing ones connectedness to their religious organization. Arthur (n.d.) believes "a group identity is projected through dress because people use self–presentation and self–promotion to visually present identity that is congruent with their belief systems" (Religion and Dress, para. 1). Since each religious organization perceives the role of dress, as it pertains to the expression of identity, differently one must also understand the basis of said religious organizations beliefs in order to comprehend how their beliefs mirror the role of dress. Islam is a monotheistic faith, one that believes in a single God, emphasizes submission to God or Allah, as well as the group over the individual. The Qur'an, the literal word of God, lays out the role of dress and its meaning for both men and women (Hunt–Hurst & Miller–Spillman, 2012; Islam, 2017). This story is told from the point of view of Elie but is focused around him and his father's lives in the concentration camps. The story demonstrates a lot about Elie's emotional state and actions throughout the story and he changes overtime in many ways. Elie Wiesel has been through experiences that have entirely transformed himself from a young, innocent, religious, and weak boy to a strong, caring, and persevering young man. From the start of the book when Elie was introduced you could tell he was a family oriented, religious and well behaved young boy. Throughout the book you can see evidence of religious belief and how often being a Jew is mentioned in the story. Elie talks about himself at the beginning of the book describing himself with these word: It is, however, another aspect of this extraordinary book that has held my attention. In early American History religion was the celebration of a God or Gods that represented the accomplishments of one's own. The importance of religion was the simple fact that people represented the type of life they lived based off their religious beliefs. People knew very well what others stood for but they did not accept it or tolerate it. I feel as though the 'old world' had it worse than what we have now. The old world took matters into their own hands and did not allow those of other groups to continue their ways of worship. People did not accept different cultures into their villages or places of praises. The invitation was declined before even presented, they most definitely killed others faster than standing around telling people what they did wrong by entrusting in those about their religious faith! Back in early American history there was a lot of issues about religious freedom. Without religion it is impossible for a nation to be shaped because then there would be no political views. Many people follow religions because of faith, upbringing, personal experience and many other reasons and live by the commandments given to them. If suddenly, there beliefs where proved as wrong then perhaps there fundamental way of living would change and there would be an increase of havoc in the world. So surely, religion holds many moral and ethical values and it would be unnecessary to demand a more rational argument for religions to be based upon. And if you feel ... • 34. Salvation : Truth Or Myth? Salvation: Truth or Myth Without belief in God the Savior it is not possible to have salvation from the grips of death. God promises eternal life if we accept Him as our Lord and Savior. There are those who believe in idols as gods and give sacrifices to those gods to be spared from the wrath of those gods. Also there are those who believe in scientific evidence alone without a creator or savior. Two authors who write aboutreligion are Langston Hughes short story "Salvation, and Margaret Mead, "New Superstitions for Old". It is important to acknowledge and recognize the relationship between salvation and a belief in God. Salvation comes from first having a belief in God and then accepting him as your Lord and Savior. Most Christians believe that salvation is being freed from eternal damnation. Hughes had the belief that was instilled by his aunt, which was "My aunt told me that when you were saved you saw a light, and something happened to you inside! And Jesus came into your life! And God was with you from then on!"(Hughes 119). Unlike his aunt Hughes did not experience salvation the way she described to him that he would, and therefore believed that he was not saved. Hughes friend Westley didn't believe either, when he said "God Damn! I'm tired o' sitting here. Lets get up and be saved."(Hughes 119). Westley and Hughes both gave into peer pressure from the church body and went to the alter thinking that was all they had to do to receive salvation. Hughes actions have a ... • 35. Religious Syncretism And Religious Beliefs Religious syncretism is a blending of two or more religious belief practice into a new system, or the merging into a religious tradition of beliefs from different traditions. This can occur for many reasons but happens quite frequently in areas where multiple religions exist nearby to each other and are active in the culture. When a culture is conquered, the conquerors bring their religious beliefs with them, but do not succeed in entirely wiping out the old beliefs or practices. Such adherents sometimes see syncretism as a betrayal of their pure truth. They feel by adding an incompatible belief ruins and changes the original concept and practice of the original religion, thus rendering it no longer true. By bringing in a new view, belief, or practice into a religious system actually distort the original faith. Many feel religious syncretism is simply not compatible with true Christianity. In fact, any modification to biblical law and principle for the sake of a "better" religion is heresy. The Bible even says that no one shall add any word to it. The Bible is complete as it stands. Syncretism, in this case, is the mixing of Christianity with something else such that they become a different gospel. Syncretism happens more than we might know. When anything is added to the message of the gospel, the true message of Christ is compromised and another gospel can be created that is actually not the gospel. Syncretism can be most easily seen when two or more starkly contrasting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Religious Beliefs Religious Belief System REL/330 Religious Belief System A belief system is a system that is an opinion which determines how we interact with every aspect of out life. Your belief is something that is stored deep into your subconscious mind that will either give you the drive you need to succeed or tell you that it is ok to fail. Religion is a particular type of belief system, but not all belief systems are religion. Telling the difference between religious from non–religious belief systems can be easy at times, but can be difficult as well. A belief system can cover a variety of situations that may overlap with some religions. There can be a belief system that feels you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The "code of the streets" is not widely discussed due to its sensitive nature. No one is going to sit down and tell the way of life in these areas. Secrets are kept to preserve the enter workings of the streets. It is similar to the dark alleys you read about in novels and newspaper articles. The benefit to knowing the "code of the streets" is that you can survive in the urban areas without having to deal with the incidents some may encounter when they do not know it. The down side is that you are practically condoning the constant destroying of local laws you live under. I have witnessed almost every crime that can be performed in the areas I have lived in and I did nothing but walk to my home and thank my luck stars that I was not the man getting beat and robbed in the middle of the street. I did have my share of misfortune but mostly I was able to bypass a majority of the problems of my neighborhood. As far as my religious belief is concerned I find it difficult to convey my thought to the closed minded people I encounter. I try to explain how I feel about certain topics but find myself wasting my time with people that rationalize everything in their lives but when it comes to religion they fall back to the "blind faith" mentality that has most people trapped in today's society. There are many traditions in my religious beliefs that are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Importance Of Freedom In South Africa As we know, Australia is a multicultural country; a country immigrant yearns to live in. It is also popular for overseas students and workers. Multiculturalism is not only good for those people broadening their horizons and knowing the world in the other side, but it is also promoting economic development in Australia. When they are breathing the fresh air, and enhancing other skills in the other environment, are they really feel free and treated equally and fairly in the other country they choose to stay? Without doubt, there is not absolute freedom in any part of the world. Everyone has the same rights for being treated fairly and equally whatever their skin color is, which country form and gender. People have rights to choose their life what it wants to look like, what they want to do, is living in the free of judgement life. Nelson Mandela– the former president of South Africa, a nation hero who has spending years being incarcerated and never stop fighting for justice and freedom. He like most of other great leaders spent lots of years on the path for freedom and argues that 'For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others' (2013). In my view, living to respect the freedom of others means embracing cultural differences, challenging racial discrimination and respecting religious freedoms. Firstly, in order to embrace cultural differences, is important for people to feel included in society. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Ethics Of Belief System It is in W. K. Clifford's essay The Ethics of Belief in which the author argues that a belief system based on anything but evidence is immoral. This argument is made in response to Blaise Pascal's suggestion that it is practically reasonable to live as though God exists as there is no loss in the wager itself should God exist or not. The case of a ship owner is offered as an example to illustrate the point for genuine justification. Despite fears that his vessel may not be seaworthy, a ship owner puts those doubts aside and allows the ship, full of emigrants in search of a better life, to set sail. Having safely sailed numerous voyages and weathered many storms in the past, the ship owner felt confident in putting his trust in Providence.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As previously mentioned, this tale was intended to support the idea of an evidence based belief system. Clifford is of the mind that one's beliefs are not his own but rather common property being guided by "that general conception of the course of things which has been created by society for social purposes (p.238)." The idea here is that one has a responsibility to help create the world for their children, their future. Due to the enormity of this obligation, it is crucial that this notion be applied to all beliefs. In doing so, this aids and strengthens the common goodness of humankind. We must all question, and find evidence in, what we believe; no one is excused from this universal duty. By dismissing evidence, man may "keep alive the fatal superstitions which clog his race (p.238)." While it is agreed that this obligation is no easy task, the result is suggested to provide happiness and security in knowing how to deal with any situation. Allow me to support Clifford's premise by sharing a story from a recently watched episode of This American Life about a Texas rancher who cloned Chance, his beloved 19–year old Brahman ... • 39. Religious Beliefs And Its Effects On Children It is a question that has become increasingly difficult for religious parents to completely ignore: Are parents who raise their children to hold religious beliefs instilling a form of permanent indoctrination? Many atheists argue this today, one of the most famous being zoologist Richard Dawkins. In a detailed article about this topic, he stated, "There really is an important difference between including your children in harmless traditions, and forcing on them un–evidenced opinions about the nature of life or the cosmos" (Dawkins). In another interview he said, "Children do need to be protected so that they can have a proper education and not be indoctrinated in whatever religion their parents happen to have been brought up in" (Humphreys). Atheists argue that brainwashing plays into account when raising a child with religious beliefs, which leads to an influence on their future, and way of thinking. These individuals propose that we should raise children without any religious beliefs at all and allow them to reach a level of intellectual maturity so that they can choose their own system of beliefs. Some might support this argument and find it reasonable. However, due to the fact that parents raise their children according to their own beliefs, having the best interest for their kids at heart and contradicting with the concept of brainwashing by the number of atheists there are today, religious parents have every right to raise their children according to their own ...
