Free the Children started after Craig read a story of one boy that he couldn't ignore. In the morning,
after flipping through pages, he found a story of one boy his age named Iqbal in search of comics.
He was born in South Asia and was sold to slavery at the age of four. In his life, he spent six years
working in the field of carpet–weaving loom. As a child himself he was shocked to hear this story;
so he decided to defend children's rights. He gathered a small group of his gr. 7 classmates from
Thorn hill, Ontario, school and "Free The Children" was born. Today, everyday free the children

Free Play
) What is the main purpose of this article? You will most likely find this information in the
Introduction, which generally states a rationale for the investigation and the purpose of the study.
The introduction also reviews relevant research.
Despite play's critical role in child development, there has been a reduction of time and
opportunities for free play. The purpose of the study is to first examine the extent to which children
´s free play is related to their social competence. It is expected that children who engage more in
free play, will also have better social competence. Second, as this relationship between free play and
social interaction can be mediated by children´s emotions, more free play will also give children
more opportunity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now that I realize that emotions are involved once I have a child I will encourage my child to free
play to explore his or her own interest to express his impulses or emotions in a playful and positive
way. I understand time for free play at school has been significantly reduced for children because
schools are placing more emphasis on academics. I will not overschedule my child with out of home
athletics or artistic activities. At home I will find a balance between study time and play time to
maintain the parent–child quality time creating the best environment for my child to become
academically, socially and emotionally well

No Video Games in Education in Pamela Paul's Book Reading,...
Pamela Paul, author of "Reading, Writing and Video Games", demonstrates that video games should
not be part of the education. Paul asserts there is no learning from playing video games and the
education should be the same old fashion. Paul observes the technology in classroom could be
useful for the students. However, she thinks the children should stick on reading and writing for
learning. Finally, Paul prefers to let the children play video games in free time rather than let them
play video games for education. Although, Paul idea of using technology in classroom and
marketing education fun games are true, the idea of letting the children play games that are not
educational in their free time are inaccurate.
First, One implication of Paul treatment of saying there is a place for technology in the classroom is
that a good idea. Paul is surely right about having technology in classroom help show the idea to the
students. Also, teacher used the projector to share notes and show videos to the students. However,
using tablets in the classroom can be easy to do quizzes and exams, and that give the teacher more
time to explain more information to the class. Also considering giving live lecture between two
schools in different country could help exchange more knowledge. Finally, schools should concerns
having more technology in classrooms to help the students learn more and fast for there own
benefits.
Second, Paul assumes that many of the games marketed as educational aren't as

Free-Range Or Tiger Parenting?
Which Style Is for YOU? Free–Range or Tiger Parenting
Throughout time, many parents have questioned themselves if it's smarter to be a free–range parent
or a tiger parent? What are the pros and cons to be a free–range parent? What is tiger parenting and
what are the benefits? Parenting refers to the process of selecting the most appropriate way to ensure
the physical, cognitive, and emotional wellbeing of one's child. The process of choosing a parenting
style cam often differ due to the factors such as culture, race, and socioeconomic status. For
example, Asian parents will prefer to use a more stricter form of parenting known as "tiger
parenting" while western parents might prefer to use a laxer approach known as "free–range

In the beginning, she listed all the activities her daughters are not allowed to do and explains as to
why her daughters are not allowed to participate and how those choices can lead to a more
successful outcome. Opponents believe the tiger parenting style promotes conformity and doesn't
allow creativity, many individuals were against Amy Chua and her the way she didn't let her
daughters be active.
Tiger parents believe by constantly pushing their children to be successful in everything they do at
an early age can prepare them for the future. Tiger parents express their love through expectation of
greatness, not the acceptance of mediocrity, but also use punishment and shame to force their child
to improve, which can lead to high stress levels. Amy Chua, believes "The best way to protect their
children is by preparing them for the future, letting them see what they're capable of, and arming
them with skills, work habits and inner confidence that no one can ever take away."
In contrast, Free– range parents are types of parents who believe in the role is to trust their child.
They tend to let their children run freely in the world like "free–range chickens". Free–range
parenting is the direct opposite of Tiger parenting. This parenting style allows the child to have a
large amount of freedom without constantly worrying

Fighting to Improve Ireland's Education The National Education of Ireland Bill was created with the
help of the Stanley Letter in 1831 by E.G. Stanley to provide a better and free education to better
serve the children of Ireland. The newly revised 1892 Ireland Education bill that is proposed will
help children and schools across Ireland be better than the Christian Brothers Schools who refused
to accept government help that will make attendance compulsory, raise teacher salaries, and the
separation of church and state. The "Stanley Letter," written by Earl G. Stanley, was the legal basis

These low standards led to Gettleman proposing a revised National Education (Ireland) bill in 1892
that was established in 1831. Gettleman wanted to establish that we are a new generation to stand up
and fight for our rights, especially for our children to have a better education that would be provided
free of cost at the hands of the government. This revised bill was to help provide better educational
opportunities for children in Ireland to be in mixed schools and to be able to be taught religion
separately from school. Gettlemans's bill was to fight making attendance compulsory to children
ages six to fourteen so that they would be provided an education and illegal to have them employed
from under age eleven, to keep religious teachings separate from being taught while in class, and to
help provide better salaries to teachers and teacher aides who work in the education field. The
Christian Brothers Schools were schools that are located in Ireland that provided the basis of
education and religion together. The National Education (Ireland) bill of 1892 provided the basis of
parents being able to put their children in national schools where only education was taught, and
religion was taught at a separate time from school. The Christian Brothers schools excluded
themselves from this bill because they believed that having religious emblems displayed at all hours
of the day and to integrate religion with education at all hours were their belief to provide the

Black Panther Party Free Breakfast for School Children Program
The 1960's was a time in the United States where many children from all areas would help their
fathers or mothers with work while going to school at the same time, some days, without having
enough time to even eat. In various cities in California, such as Oakland and Los Angeles, there
would be children that would come to school with empty stomachs. The meal privileges and
programs that most students have now and take for granted, did not exist during these times.
However, in 1969, a revolutionary black nationalist group known as the Black Panther Party, took
the initiative and created a measure known as the Free Breakfast for Children Program.

Use Of Diction And Imagery In The Cry Of The Children
During the Industrial Revolution, children were often forced to work in factories for long hours.
Children gave companies cheap labor and sometimes children had to work for 10 or 12 hours a day,
even though they were only 7 or 8 years old. The factory work robbed children of their childhoods.
Instead of going to school, playing, and enjoying the sunshine, these children were trapped by work.
In the poem "The Cry of the Children" Elizabeth Browning reveals how these children were
mentally and physically destroyed from child labor, and how the factory life leaves children
mourning for a normal childhood. The author uses literary devices such as diction, imagery and
dialogue to portray these themes The author uses imagery to show children ... Show more content on

The author uses the literary device dialog to terrify the reader. The author describes the children as
mentally destroyed when using the dialogue. The children reveal how mentally exhausted the are as
"[They] fall on [their] faces, trying to go; end, underneath [their] heavy eyelids drooping,...all day,
[they] drag [their] burden to tiring through the cool, dark Underground or, all day, [they] drive the
wheels of iron, in the factories round and round" (65–74). The words "dark" and "drooping" shows
the theme children are mentally destroyed by factory life because they are "drooping" with the
weight of their work on them. Images such as 'all day we drive the wheels of iron" displays that the
children have no free time and are working very long hours, and show that they are mentally ruined
by the long hours of work.. Another piece of evidence that the kids are being mentally ruined is the
image that they are "spinning on blindly in the dark" which means that the kids are obviously
working well past night time and while should be sleeping or actually working. "Blindly further
shows exhaustion, as if they don't even see the work in front of them anymore. They just keep
working like robots. The author uses this dialogue and imagery to inform the readers of the troubles
of being the working child faced during the Industrial

Free The Children Essay
The Catholic Church proclaims that the dignity of each person is the foundation for a moral society
and that human life is sacred, as demonstrated by Craig Kielburger, whom truly believes that every
human life is sacred (Francis I, 2015), every individual has a unique dignity (Francis I, 2015), and
every person deserves the right to life and happiness (Francis I, 2015). To begin, Craig Kielburger
portrays in his work in the organizations that he co–founded with his brother Mark Kielburger, Free
the Children (1995) and Me to We (2008) that he believes that all human life is sacred (Francis I,
2015). Free the Children is one of many organizations that save children from sweatshops (Ryan,

In order to have happiness one must have security, comfort, safety, and love which the children
whom work in sweatshops do not experience because of the horrible conditions they live in. After
reading about Iqbal Masih, Craig could not get him out of his head and wanted to find a way to help
the children suffering in third world countries get their life back (Padma, 2006). Craig Kielburger
works every day to make sure each child gets the happiness they deserve. In 1995, Craig spoke out
about child labour, encouraging children to escape from the sweatshops they were working in
(Padma, 2006). Craig followed in Iqbal Masih steps, even though he knew it would not be easy and
could possibly be dangerous (Free the Children, 2015). Craig first spoke in front of schools in his
district, and then was soon invited to speak in front of the community. His audiences kept growing,
making the world more aware of how children are being treated to assemble everyday products that
many people take advantage of. Free the Children was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2014
because of Free the Children's extensive journey toward youth empowerment and the fight for the
rights of children all over the world (Free the Children, 2015). To conclude, Craig Kielburger works
every day to better the lives of everyone and make sure every child has the life and happiness they

Essay on Welfare Reform
Welfare Reforms effect on Women and Children The major problem facing poor Women and
Children after the adoption of Welfare Reform is, the lack of adequate healthcare for these families.
The Women and Children facing this problem are mainly from out–of–wedlock families. It is
believed that by removing such benefits it will end such problems like crime, young black men not
feeling sense of accomplishment by not working and the bond of community relationships
deteriorating. In trying to address this problem I have come up with two different alternative policies

This is going to have and is already having disastrous effects on the American population. Already
more than half of AFDC, Medicaid, food stamps, are attributable to families involved in teen birth
situations. We are spending more to help these families which still is not making our situation better
because most of the families are still "broke" in slang term for not having any cash. They are unable
to support our economy financially because they can't support themselves which is have a chain
effect on society. At least if these families and children did not have to worry about the lack of
health care, than it would be a burden lifted of their chest to look for work and attend the free
Families and Mentoring program that should be created. The free Families Health and Mentoring
Program, which would be paid for mainly by the government, will be the way out for many of these
young mothers, father, and families to get ahead in life. A lot of the problem with the out–of–
wedlock situations are those in the poor, urban setting. Clearly, it is also racially inclined. That is a
whole other subject. Not to get off on a tangent, this program will enrich the lives of these families
by giving them the support and family structure that some of them lacked growing up. This program
will be created to help develop individuals with the skills to go out into our workforce and find a
job. Although there are not enough jobs

Children Should Control Their Own Free Play
Having the free time to explore and to be creative with your own mind as a child is so important. As
a child our brains are constantly learning and absorbing everything around us. In today's society
though, children are no getting enough free play. Many kids are too worried about their digital
device or having a lot of structured activities. Today's school and parents believe that their children
need to have structured actives, and be under their supervision at all time, but may disagree.
Children that have unstructured play use their own minds and start to develop their own unique
thought; others think that kids need to have structure so their minds are more disciplined.
Many believe that children should control their own free play. Having the freedom can benefit a
child's mental and physical state of mind. Sergio Pellis, a researcher at the University of Lethbridge
says, "The more time that children spent in less–structured activities, the better their self–directed
executive functioning." "Play physically changes the connections between neurons in the pre–frontal
cortex. It prepares the brain for "life, love and even schoolwork" (qud. In Kozlowska). Most kids
have playtime, but most are being told what to do. Not having the free will to use your own mind
can be very damaging to a child mental health. Jessica Lahey, a writer for The Atlantic says,
"Unscheduled, unsupervised, playtime is one of the most valuable educational opportunities we give
our children. It is

The Importance Of Healthy Eating And Reducing Child Obesity
In 1946 President Truman signed into legislation that children living beneath the poverty line would
receive free or reduced lunch. This would be the start of the National School Lunch Program
(NSLP). Free or reduced lunch for students who live in low income homes was intended to make
sure lower socioeconomic children grew up to be healthy adults. The importance of healthy eating
for children in the United States first started in the 1940's with concerns that men who did not pass
military entry exams had not received proper nutrients. Truman learned that children who had little
to nothing to eat would not pass the military exam. This population was also more inclined to enlist
in the military. With time the program has expanded to include free breakfast and a snack before
leaving school. Michelle Obama is a strong and powerful advocate for healthy eating and reducing
child obesity. These policies have now shifted to focus more and more on the healthy aspect of the
meals of children for better learning. Overall the main goal is creating strong and healthy children,
regardless of their socioeconomic status. In the process also keeping costs as low as possible. When
President Truman began the NSLP program he had the best intentions set on the well–being of
children. Unfortunately, as most free services that are given they have an unintended consequence.
For instance, that administrators attempt to keep costs down results in high municipal waste that

Parenting Styles In Romeo And Juliet
In the past there were many known parenting styles. Parents didn't have to identify the way they
raised their children as a "style", it was just parenting. Now, in the 21st century, there are three main
types of parenting styles, the tiger parent, the helicopter parent, and the free range parent. Children
of these parents constantly debate about which style is the best, so which is the to raise a child? Free
range parenting is the best parenting technique. Free range parents have mastered the concept of
parenting. A parent who is considered free range is someone who is "raising children in the spirit of
encouraging then to function independently in proper accordance of their age" (Free Range 1). Free
range guardians still love and care for their child the same and still are aware of boundaries; they
just believe that they cannot hold their child's hand their whole life. To compare this genre of
parenting to the Capulet parents in Romeo and Juliet, Lord capulet states that, "My will to her
consent is but apart" (Shakespeare 808). Lord Capulet's statement shows a view of free range
parenting, he will help his daughter make a choice but, he knows he cannot make it for her. These
caregivers are parents with the most realistic views. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

need more responsibilities, which help them grow in their lives. Their parents can't hover over their
children, its simply "good intentions gone awry" (Helicopter 2). Free range parents allow them to

Early Years Education Essay
Early Years Education is the provision of an education environment for children between the ages of
0 and 5. Children between the ages of 4 and 5 will then start school in the reception class. The
environments that education can be provided in include the following:
– Nursery Schools: Nurseries schools provide early learning for children between the ages of 3 and
five. The nursery may be linked to/ adjoining a school. Some nurseries are also extending their
provision to include 2 year olds.
– Play groups and pre–schools: Often run voluntarily, they usually take children between 3 and 5
although may have a provision for 2 year olds.
– Day Nursery: A day nursery is a childcare centre that caters mainly for working parents (whether

children under the age of 8.
– Nannies: Nannies (or other home–based carers) are childcare providers who work in the
childâ€TMs own home, able to look after children of any age.
Although not compulsory, free early years education is available to all 3 and 4 year olds throughout
the UK if their parents wish for them to attend. It is also being extended to some two year olds.
This free education covers nurseries and childminders. All 3 and 4 year olds are entitled to 15 hours
of free Early Years Education per week, for up to 38 weeks of the year. In nurseries this is usually
taken as 3 hours per day (either a morning place or an afternoon place attending 5 days a week).
Childminders will be flexible to the needs of the parents and provision may depend on their
availability. All free early education must be within an approved setting for it to be provided free of
charge. There is now also a provision of free education including nursery and childminders

The Corruptive Nature Of Slavery In Beloved
Toni Morrison's Beloved tells the story of ex slaves struggling to define themselves in their now free
life. However, their traumatic experiences with slavery have left the characters cracked; they have
been damaged to the point where they are only fragments of a true free person. The corruptive
nature of slavery shines through these cracks in the characters, highlighting the fact that their
experiences with slavery continue to fragment their personalities despite being free. This begs the
question: can ex slaves truly be as "free" as a person who was never a slave? As shown by the ex
slaves' struggle to define themselves, Morrison argues that, compared to a free man, the ex slaves
can never be truly free.
Morrison's philosophy of freedom is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She understands how slavery can destroy or "dirty" a person to the point where "you forgot who you
were and couldn't think it up." This is the justification for trying to kill her children so they would
never have to experience what it is like to have your identity stripped from you. Even though "she
and others lived through and got over it", her personality/identity was so damaged that she didn't
want her kids to live through slavery. However, Sethe failed to apply this to herself. She overlooked
the fact that her own corruption led to her struggles with motherhood. In never learning how to
properly mother a child, Sethe made the rash decision of killing them to free them from the horrors
of slavery. In the passage above, Morrison uses the symbol of dirt to portray how Sethe's own
corruption affected her children and hindered their freedom. In trying to save her children from the
"dirt", Sethe dirtied her children anyway because slavery is so powerful that if it affects one, it
affects all. The dirt of slavery never left Sethe and made it hard for her to discover herself and find
her own freedom. Again, Morrison establishes the difference between being free and freeing oneself.
Because she has been so corrupted by slavery, neither Sethe nor her children can be truly

Being involved helps a child's mental wellbeing, giving them a better sense of identity and higher

Being involved with something helps children with the identity crisis they face. All children are

RESPONSE PAPER ON: FREE THE CHILDREN By NANCY GIBBS
'Free the Children' was written by Nancy Gibbs, a professor at Princeton University. The author
finished her studies from Yale and Oxford universities. 'Free the Children' was first published in July
2003 in Time Magazine. This thought–provoking essay talks about letting the children enjoy their
free time in the summer and burden them with extra work. It also talks about the possible
consequences of overburdening them and the dangers of letting them free.
In the essay, the writer used her own two daughters as examples. She writes about how she wanted

I feel this statement to be very spot–on. Summer was the time of the year when I sat down with a
notepad and tried to figure out what I did wrong and the things I could have handled better. I went
back to school in September a little bit wiser. I feel that this self–evaluation played a major role in
shaping me into the person I am today.
An alarming thought put forward by the writer was that it is okay for children to have a time they
will not learn anything that will help them academically. The world is changing and the mindsets of
children and their parents need to change with it too. Too much leisure time will be detrimental to
the child's development and may encourage procrastination. I also believe that writer did not put
enough emphasis on the degree of freedom she wanted children to have. We live in troubled times
and there must be some limitations to the degree of freedom the children are allowed to enjoy. She
failed to mention that parents must be wary of their children getting involved in unlawful activities
and the consequences of such actions.
Overall, I would like to say that most of the points mentioned by the writer in the essay were valid
but I must add that some balance must be found between leisure and education, even if it is the
summer. The world is not what it used to be and the people have to adapt likewise in order to live up
to the expectations

Children 's Lack Of Free Time
"In factories and loom–sheds in India, Neap and Pakistan, hundreds of thousands of children as
young as five are reported as working in near–slave conditions. They are put to work weaving and
hand–knotting oriental rugs and carpets for export. Labouring up to 20 hours a day, seven days a
week, they are often forced to eat and sleep where they work. Sometimes they are locked in at night.
Children who make mistakes or try to run away risk being beaten, deprived of food or even tortured.
These child workers are usually from the poorest families, toiling to pay off their parents' debt to a
money broker. Needless to say, they don't get to go to school" (Litvinoff page 75). This quote
displays the hopelessness these many of children face in their everyday life. They are forced to work
an excruciating amount of time, with no hope of ever having a better life. These children are
uneducated due to their lack of free time or money to attend school, which in turn strips away
another possibility of rising up and breaking free of this vicious cycle that affects their family and
fellow children. Within this job, they will never make enough money to earn a living, which will
always put them in debt and having to work more and more. When these children grow up and
potentially have children of their own, those children will be forced to follow in the same path as
their parents. This cycle will continue until us the consumers intervene and attempt to help these
children. If we were to help

why parents started to be more cautious.
2. Children that grew up with free range parenting seem to be more responsible and know how to

The Prevalence Of Autism Spectrum Disorder Essay
The apparent increase in the prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder in the United States has been
a growing public concern. The lifelong condition can cause severe neurodevelopmental problems
characterized by symptoms such as impaired communication, diminished social interaction, and
unusual ritualistic behaviors (Johnson, Handen, Zimmer, Sacco, & Turner, 2010). Unfortunately,
doctors and researchers have not been able to agree on the direct cause for Autism Spectrum
Disorder (ASD) or ways to treat the various conditions on the Spectrum. With little definitive
information, families affected by ASD seek alternative interventions. One of the more popular
interventions is based off the hypothesis that "the physiology and psychology of autism might be
explained by excessive opioid activity" due to gluten and casein (Millward, Ferriter, Calver, &
Connell–Jones, 2008). According to research, people with ASD can have excess levels of gluten and
casein peptides in their urine and spinal fluid; this is attributed to "abnormally porous intestinal
membrane(s)" (Whiteley, Rodgers, Savery & Shattock, 1999; Knvisberg, Reichelt, Høien, &
Nødland, 2002). Because gluten and casein are not properly digested in children with ASD, the
peptides can enter the circulatory and central nervous systems. From there, research suggests that
the peptides bind to opioid receptors, disrupting brain chemistry, thereby impairing cognitive
function. In accordance with this hypothesis, some promote a

in India are aware of different signs of diseases and as they belong to middle class so can't afford to
make their children treat at a good hospital, moreover food habits of Indians is very unhealthy
including sugars and sugars reduces our defence system against bacterial infections, it contributes a
lot to obesity, sugar lowers the enzyme functioning, it can also cause alcoholism; all these factors
leads to Diabetes. PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE In my perspective I would like to share what I have
understood from all the research I have done. Firstly we should all take our good foot forward to
aware everyone about the type 1 diabetes's signs and symptoms (just like how Venezuela people did
)mainly to the illiterate people, then others and one thing we should do is that we should conduct a
free diabetes check–up for children as well as for elders. Foreigner children should have a control on
their diet; they should not take much sugar. If parents of children see any problem or change in their
behavior they should immediately take them to the doctor. In foreign countries the treating method
of any disease is very good as their medical hygiene is very good, their instruments are very
advanced and so the technology, the children can be treated with a very good treatment in abroad; if
parents want to protect their child's future then they will surely follow this .... In India also we
should provide the same facility that foreigners are having so that people in India can also get the

Children, Black, And Free, By Margaret Walker
Margaret Walker once said, "Handicapped as we have been by a racist system of dehumanizing
slavery and segregation, our American history of nearly five hundred years reveals that our cultural
and spiritual gifts brought from our African past are still intact" (On Being Female, Black, and Free;
Essays by Margaret Walker, 1997). Basically this quote
First, I think she goes out of her way to point out the struggles of many African Americans in an
elegant and unique way. The dehumanizing of slavery and segregation is something that I believe
has happened many times. It's easy to study these subjects time and time again and become numb to
the fact that real people had to suffer through such conditions. We should all remember to use our
full range of empathetic emotions when studying and thinking of anyone who has been through
racist oppression such as slavery or segregation. Secondly, I think Margaret commends African
Americans as she rightly should for being able to hold on to the important cultural and spiritual gifts
from old.
The era I have chosen is the Middle Passages and early American Slavery (pre–1793). The Middle
Passage was apart of the Triangular Trade. Millions of people were shipped from Africa to America,
the New World, which is referred to as the Atlantic Slave Trade. North America, Brazil, Spain,
England, Portugal, France, and other countries took part in the Atlantic Slave Trade. In the early
sixteenth century, the voyage lasted several months, but by the

Why Do Children Need Creative Play
There are many different styles in wich childeren use their free time, such as playing duck, duck,
goose, building club houses, and creating imaginary world's to rule as they please. Some parents
utilize that free time to enroll thier kids in sports, music lessons or group activities. In todays age
most children are involved in some sort of technology, that consumes most of thier free time. So by
letting children play wether it be creatively or organized, that experience can be a stepping stone to a
bright and healthy future. When childs lives are filled with controlled activity, they need creative
play to express who they are. Organized activities are very structured and usually have rules and
decisions made by adults. Creative play is more hands on. Using materials the children can interpret
how they see fit, and only thier judgment or imagination are the building blocks. Parents involved in
creative play is important. Wether they let their children make the decisions or simply give them
secluded time to find and use thier own creativity for innovation and problem solving. ... Show more

Free the Children from Child Labour
Free The Children from Child Labour:
The Disadvantageous of Child Labour
Two hundred million children are suffering in the world! "the world has an estimated 186 million
child labourers – 5,7 million in forced and bonded labor, 1.8 million in prostitution, and 0.3 million
in armed conflict" .( Basu & Tzannatos, 2003, p.147). In Africa, Asia and the Middle East, a
huge number of children are child labourers, and most of them under 14 years old. However, they
are working hard as same as adults; they are working long hours every day, and work in harsh,
dangerous and harmful conditions. They can't have normal lives as other children; they can't go to
school and stay with their families, because they must earn money for ... Show more content on

Thus, child labour only can cause poor education to children, and can not give them any benefits.
Be abused People think work doesn't harm children, but the truth is children sometimes are abused
by their employers such as work as slaves and they may get sexual abuse. Children are easy to
exploit through manipulation and psychological control mechanisms. They fear of violence and
punishment. Also, they are inexperienced in life, so they only can trust adults. Thus, children easily
get abuse from employers and are controlled by adults. For instance, in the coffee farm in Africa, a
worker told a boy about a child who tried to escape, but failed. The child was caught and badly
beaten. This made the boy afraid and scared. Therefore, fear of punishment make children keep
working as slaves for employers. (Kielland & Tovo, 2006). Sexual abuse is really common in
African child labourers. It causes some serious problem to children such as HIV/AIDS. Working
children get sexual abuse more than non working children. For instance, according to Kielland and
Tovo. (2006). In their article, "child labour in the commercial labor market", girls work in
restaurants longer than boys, and working late hours in a place where alcohol is served. Some girls
provide service which is far beyond food and drinks. Because there have no general responsibility
for those female child labourers, and people think it is a good

Critical Understanding Of Teaching Philosophy Essay
In our centre self–review report on play pedagogy in relation to Lion Kindergarten's teaching
philosophy statement we will be underpinning the theoretical ideas around play and what play is and
showing a critical understanding of play and playfulness. We will be identifying play in relation to
children's learning and development, and teaching within New Zealand early childhood settings. We
will then be identifying and critically discussing two aspects of play that are particularly important
to the centre, and examine their strengths and challenges with reference to contemporary play
theory, curriculum planning, and images of the children, of children and learning. These two aspects
include relationships and the notion of free play. And we will be incorporating theoretical
perspectives of play to support the evolving of the centers philosophy in relation to experimentation
around their pedagogy of play.
Above is our teaching philosophy statement and we have highlighted key ideas we believe to be the
most important part of our statement. We believe in free play that involves the individual child as
well as with their peers and teachers. We strongly believe in child initiated learning experiences
based on children's interests. This can lead to a much richer learning experience for children when it
is based on what they are intrigued about.
The meaning of 'play' can be very hard to define in an early childhood context. What is play? Does
all learning involve play and does all

The free entitlement provides universal access to early childhood education and care, ensuring that
all children have the opportunity to benefit from early years education. The extended hours also

Adoption Worth The Cost : Should Adopting A Child Be Free?
Adoption Worth the Cost Should adopting a child be free? As a first response, many people would
answer "Yes, adoption should be free," arguing that there should not be a price tag on children, or
that adoption is unreasonably expensive. Others may argue that "No, it should not be free," because
it may unknowingly put the adoptees at risk for danger, while the children are easily accessible.
Adoptions were created to give children, whose biological parents could not care for them, a new
and affectionate home, and for couples who wanted children, but could not have them biologically
because of health reasons. Today, many people adopt children to add on to their family. With
adoption being free, many "unfit" people would qualify to be ... Show more content on

The Adoption of Children Act was the first law to give children an actual voice in the adoption
process. Although people now adopt children with good intentions, before the Adoption of Children
Act was passed, there were many people who would adopt the children for the purpose of child
labor. As noted by Wayne Carp, author of Adoption in America: Historical Perspectives:
Adoption did not emerge as the preferred system of child care in the early nineteenth century
because elite families with whom the children were placed often treated them as servants rather than
family members. Most significantly, Porter finds that rather than the happy, successful adoption
outcomes often portrayed by those favoring adoption, 20 percent of adopted children had negative
family experiences. (Carp 3–4)
New York was the home of the first adoption agencies from 1910 to 1930. They were created by
Clara Spence, Alice Chaplin, and Florence Walrath. All three women shared the same ideas, they felt
as though children born "out of wedlock" should be given up for adoption to a husband and wife,
completing the family ("Adoption History: First Specialized").
Adoption cannot be free logically, because of all the costs and expenses involved during the process.
If not from those who want to be adoptive parents, then where will the required money come from?
If the government were to provide free adoptions, the funds needed would cut into other resources.

Persuasive Essay On Child Obesity
Over the recent years, public concerns are drawn to fast growing number of children who are obese
mainly caused by unhealthy eating. Child obesity lead to serious health problems and affecting
mental well–being in childhood and later adult life. Therefore, healthy and balanced diets are crucial
to prevent child obesity and help them to grow and develop well. In 2004, chef Jamie Oliver's
Channel 4 television programme 'Feed Me Better' led a healthier dinner campaign to improve the
low quality of food served in 80 schools. The public demanded for healthier school meals and
supported for increased school meal funding. Nick Clegg, deputy prime minister, initiated the free
school meals scheme. Since September 2014, all children under age of 8 attending state–funded
schools in England are eligible for free hot meal at lunchtime every day. The policy is aiming to
ensure that all children have chance to healthy lunch every day at school, improve children's health,
behavior, educational attainment and social skills, promote long term healthy eating habits; support
families with the cost of living, and eliminate disincentives to work.
The UK government set the Free School Meals (FSM) pilot to investigate a range of impacts on the
pupil outcomes. The two–year programme begins from September 2009 in three local authorities
across the UK. In Durham and the London Borough of Newham, all primary school children in
these areas were given free school lunches, in Wolverhampton the

Should Children Have Free Access To Media Essay
Should Children have Free Access to Media?
Many sources of popular media, such as television, video games, and music, can lead to
improvement in the intellectual or behavioral development of children, but at the same time, these
sources of media can also be harmful to child development. Television is seen as one of the worst of
the three, as it is seen as media source that requires no activity from the viewer, music can also help
in the development of children's cognitive functions and abilities, but at the same time has been
found to be potentially harmful for some children, and video games, surprisingly, have been found
to be substantially beneficial to cognitive development in children. It is also vital for parents and
children together, to explore the dangers and benefits that are offered to children through the
medium of media and technology.
Television has, for a long time, been believed to have many detrimental effects on young humans,
particularly developing children because of they are in such an impressionable stage of
development. Everything that they see, do, or hear impacts them. The non–fiction book, highlighting
what the authors believe are issues with developing children being exposed to media, Impact of
Media Use on Children and Youth (2003), claims that the use of media has many harmful effects and
few helpful effects for developing children. The authors supported their claims by giving many facts
that are well supported by scientific studies, listing a

Malala Yousafzai Influence
Not many people are born with a sense of righteousness. Chances are, your beliefs are influenced by
your surroundings and your life circumstances. This is the case for pretty much all activists.
Certainly, activists are influenced by problems around them. Take Malala Yousafzai, Craig and
Marc, and Emily–Anne Rigal for example. Malala is a "Global Advocate for Girls' Education"
(malala.org), Craig and Marc are on a mission "to free children and their families from poverty and
exploitation." (we.org), and Emily–Anne Rigal strives to end bullying. These young activists have
seen or experienced things that drove them to speak out for what they think is right.

did not support female education. Malala loved going to school. The young girl could have lived a

religious group, bombed schools and buildings. Now fast forward to 2009. A young Malala started
writing a blog for the BBC Urdu service under the pen name Gul Makai. She blogged about her
fears of her school being attacked by the Taliban and increasing military activity. Television and
music were banned, and women could not go outside without a male relative. Malala spoke out
against this. She protested against Taliban policies and schools being shut down. In 2011, she
received Pakistan's first National Youth Peace Prize. What did the Taliban think of this? A young girl
in Pakistan speaking out against what she thought was wrong? The extremist group did the one thing
they saw fit. They voted to kill her. And try to kill her they did. "On 9 October 2012, as Malala and
her friends were travelling home from school, a masked gunman entered their school bus and asked
for Malala by name. She was shot with a single bullet which went through her head, neck and
shoulder." (malala.org) She was rushed to a hospital in Birmingham, United Kingdom. She survived.
People thought it was a miracle. A teen girl fighting for education was shot in the head and survived.
This ignited new hope in the hearts of many. Malala was finally released from the hospital a few
months later. In 2014, Malala accepted the Nobel Peace Prize, sharing the award with Kailash
Satyarthi. Malala grew up in an environment that looked down upon women. Schools were being
bombed, and she was driven to speak out about it: "We realize the importance of our voices only

The gluten–free, casein–free, soy–free diet can improve Autistic children's lives. The GFCFSF is

Free Range Parenting Is Too Dangerous For Children

21 October 2015
One afternoon last december, in Washington, DC, police was alerted by a person to pick up a brother
and sister, who were walking a mile heading home, and take them to their parents. After the police
took the kids home, he warned the kids' father of potential dangers that his kids could have faced
while walking unsupervised. (Griffin) These days, there are many other cases similar to this where
kids walking home unsupervised are reported to authority and taken into supervision with their
parents being warned in some ways as a consequence. So what makes kids walking home
unsupervised such a nation–wide controversy? Free–range parenting. Nowadays, free–range
parenting is quite a big issue as the world is changing so rapidly and is no longer the same world
that parents in this generation could freely roam around in their own childhood. Some argue that
free–range parenting is nothing more than a mere negligence over their children in that the world is
now simply too dangerous for the children to explore on their own. They say that the world is no
longer safe for a child to be outside alone and that so–called free–range parenting is just being
irresponsible parents. However, they are wrong. Although free–range parenting may look so
dangerous and unnecessarily risky, it, in fact, has far more advantages than disadvantages and is and
has been an enormous necessity when raising children for a number of reasons: it makes

The Texas legislature passed a law allowing school districts to deny enrollment to children without

The appellants stated the children of the case are not persons of the state's jurisdiction, because they

fiscally irresponsible to educate undocumented children because it would cost the state of Texas
nearly $60 million per year to educate 20,000 children of undocumented immigrants and that money
could be used on "legal" residents of the state. The appellants also argued a free public education for
undocumented children will encourage more undocumented immigrants to Texas. Allowing
undocumented children in Texas to free public education would place burdens on the educational
system, because the state would have to higher more Bilingual education teachers. They added to
their case by referencing another case held previously, San Antonio ISD v. Rodriguez 411 U.S. 1

You will most likely find this information in the Introduction, which generally states a rationale for the investigation and the purpose of the study. The introduction also reviews relevant research. Despite play's critical role in child development, there has been a reduction of time and opportunities for free play. The purpose of the study is to first examine the extent to which children ´s free play is related to their social competence. It is expected that children who engage more in free play, will also have better social competence. Second, as this relationship between free play and social interaction can be mediated by children´s emotions, more free play will also give children more opportunity ... • 5. No Video Games in Education in Pamela Paul's Book Reading,... Pamela Paul, author of "Reading, Writing and Video Games", demonstrates that video games should not be part of the education. Paul asserts there is no learning from playing video games and the education should be the same old fashion. Paul observes the technology in classroom could be useful for the students. However, she thinks the children should stick on reading and writing for learning. Finally, Paul prefers to let the children play video games in free time rather than let them play video games for education. Although, Paul idea of using technology in classroom and marketing education fun games are true, the idea of letting the children play games that are not educational in their free time are inaccurate. First, One implication of Paul treatment of saying there is a place for technology in the classroom is that a good idea. Paul is surely right about having technology in classroom help show the idea to the students. Also, teacher used the projector to share notes and show videos to the students. However, using tablets in the classroom can be easy to do quizzes and exams, and that give the teacher more time to explain more information to the class. Also considering giving live lecture between two schools in different country could help exchange more knowledge. Finally, schools should concerns having more technology in classrooms to help the students learn more and fast for there own benefits. In the beginning, she listed all the activities her daughters are not allowed to do and explains as to why her daughters are not allowed to participate and how those choices can lead to a more successful outcome. Opponents believe the tiger parenting style promotes conformity and doesn't allow creativity, many individuals were against Amy Chua and her the way she didn't let her daughters be active. Tiger parents believe by constantly pushing their children to be successful in everything they do at an early age can prepare them for the future. Tiger parents express their love through expectation of greatness, not the acceptance of mediocrity, but also use punishment and shame to force their child to improve, which can lead to high stress levels. Amy Chua, believes "The best way to protect their children is by preparing them for the future, letting them see what they're capable of, and arming them with skills, work habits and inner confidence that no one can ever take away." In contrast, Free– range parents are types of parents who believe in the role is to trust their child. They tend to let their children run freely in the world like "free–range chickens". Shuping April 2, 2015 Fighting to Improve Ireland's Education The National Education of Ireland Bill was created with the help of the Stanley Letter in 1831 by E.G. Stanley to provide a better and free education to better serve the children of Ireland. The newly revised 1892 Ireland Education bill that is proposed will help children and schools across Ireland be better than the Christian Brothers Schools who refused to accept government help that will make attendance compulsory, raise teacher salaries, and the separation of church and state. These low standards led to Gettleman proposing a revised National Education (Ireland) bill in 1892 that was established in 1831. Gettleman wanted to establish that we are a new generation to stand up and fight for our rights, especially for our children to have a better education that would be provided free of cost at the hands of the government. This revised bill was to help provide better educational opportunities for children in Ireland to be in mixed schools and to be able to be taught religion separately from school. Gettlemans's bill was to fight making attendance compulsory to children ages six to fourteen so that they would be provided an education and illegal to have them employed from under age eleven, to keep religious teachings separate from being taught while in class, and to help provide better salaries to teachers and teacher aides who work in the education field. The Christian Brothers Schools were schools that are located in Ireland that provided the basis of education and religion together. The National Education (Ireland) bill of 1892 provided the basis of parents being able to put their children in national schools where only education was taught, and religion was taught at a separate time from school. The Christian Brothers schools excluded themselves from this bill because they believed that having religious emblems displayed at all hours of the day and to integrate religion with education at all hours were their belief to provide the ... • 13. Use Of Diction And Imagery In The Cry Of The Children During the Industrial Revolution, children were often forced to work in factories for long hours. Children gave companies cheap labor and sometimes children had to work for 10 or 12 hours a day, even though they were only 7 or 8 years old. The factory work robbed children of their childhoods. Instead of going to school, playing, and enjoying the sunshine, these children were trapped by work. In the poem "The Cry of the Children" Elizabeth Browning reveals how these children were mentally and physically destroyed from child labor, and how the factory life leaves children mourning for a normal childhood. The author uses literary devices such as diction, imagery and dialogue to portray these themes The author uses imagery to show children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author uses the literary device dialog to terrify the reader. The author describes the children as mentally destroyed when using the dialogue. The children reveal how mentally exhausted the are as "[They] fall on [their] faces, trying to go; end, underneath [their] heavy eyelids drooping,...all day, [they] drag [their] burden to tiring through the cool, dark Underground or, all day, [they] drive the wheels of iron, in the factories round and round" (65–74). The words "dark" and "drooping" shows the theme children are mentally destroyed by factory life because they are "drooping" with the weight of their work on them. Images such as 'all day we drive the wheels of iron" displays that the children have no free time and are working very long hours, and show that they are mentally ruined by the long hours of work.. Another piece of evidence that the kids are being mentally ruined is the image that they are "spinning on blindly in the dark" which means that the kids are obviously working well past night time and while should be sleeping or actually working. "Blindly further shows exhaustion, as if they don't even see the work in front of them anymore. They just keep working like robots. • 15. Free The Children Essay The Catholic Church proclaims that the dignity of each person is the foundation for a moral society and that human life is sacred, as demonstrated by Craig Kielburger, whom truly believes that every human life is sacred (Francis I, 2015), every individual has a unique dignity (Francis I, 2015), and every person deserves the right to life and happiness (Francis I, 2015). To begin, Craig Kielburger portrays in his work in the organizations that he co–founded with his brother Mark Kielburger, Free the Children (1995) and Me to We (2008) that he believes that all human life is sacred (Francis I, 2015). In order to have happiness one must have security, comfort, safety, and love which the children whom work in sweatshops do not experience because of the horrible conditions they live in. Craig Kielburger works every day to make sure each child gets the happiness they deserve. In 1995, Craig spoke out about child labour, encouraging children to escape from the sweatshops they were working in (Padma, 2006). Craig followed in Iqbal Masih steps, even though he knew it would not be easy and could possibly be dangerous (Free the Children, 2015). Craig first spoke in front of schools in his district, and then was soon invited to speak in front of the community. His audiences kept growing, making the world more aware of how children are being treated to assemble everyday products that many people take advantage of. Free the Children was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 because of Free the Children's extensive journey toward youth empowerment and the fight for the rights of children all over the world (Free the Children, 2015). • 17. Essay on Welfare Reform Welfare Reforms effect on Women and Children The major problem facing poor Women and Children after the adoption of Welfare Reform is, the lack of adequate healthcare for these families. The Women and Children facing this problem are mainly from out–of–wedlock families. It is believed that by removing such benefits it will end such problems like crime, young black men not feeling sense of accomplishment by not working and the bond of community relationships deteriorating. In trying to address this problem I have come up with two different alternative policies to try to tackle the newest welfare reform policy and adjust it in a way that will benefit families especially Women and Children as well as the tax payers of America. My first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is going to have and is already having disastrous effects on the American population. Already more than half of AFDC, Medicaid, food stamps, are attributable to families involved in teen birth situations. We are spending more to help these families which still is not making our situation better because most of the families are still "broke" in slang term for not having any cash. They are unable to support our economy financially because they can't support themselves which is have a chain effect on society. At least if these families and children did not have to worry about the lack of health care, than it would be a burden lifted of their chest to look for work and attend the free Families and Mentoring program that should be created. The free Families Health and Mentoring Program, which would be paid for mainly by the government, will be the way out for many of these young mothers, father, and families to get ahead in life. • 19. Children Should Control Their Own Free Play Having the free time to explore and to be creative with your own mind as a child is so important. As a child our brains are constantly learning and absorbing everything around us. In today's society though, children are no getting enough free play. Many kids are too worried about their digital device or having a lot of structured activities. Today's school and parents believe that their children need to have structured actives, and be under their supervision at all time, but may disagree. Children that have unstructured play use their own minds and start to develop their own unique thought; others think that kids need to have structure so their minds are more disciplined. Many believe that children should control their own free play. Having the freedom can benefit a child's mental and physical state of mind. Sergio Pellis, a researcher at the University of Lethbridge says, "The more time that children spent in less–structured activities, the better their self–directed executive functioning." "Play physically changes the connections between neurons in the pre–frontal cortex. It prepares the brain for "life, love and even schoolwork" (qud. In Kozlowska). Most kids have playtime, but most are being told what to do. Not having the free will to use your own mind can be very damaging to a child mental health. Jessica Lahey, a writer for The Atlantic says, "Unscheduled, unsupervised, playtime is one of the most valuable educational opportunities we give our children. It is ... • 21. The Importance Of Healthy Eating And Reducing Child Obesity In 1946 President Truman signed into legislation that children living beneath the poverty line would receive free or reduced lunch. This would be the start of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). Free or reduced lunch for students who live in low income homes was intended to make sure lower socioeconomic children grew up to be healthy adults. The importance of healthy eating for children in the United States first started in the 1940's with concerns that men who did not pass military entry exams had not received proper nutrients. Truman learned that children who had little to nothing to eat would not pass the military exam. This population was also more inclined to enlist in the military. With time the program has expanded to include free breakfast and a snack before leaving school. Michelle Obama is a strong and powerful advocate for healthy eating and reducing child obesity. These policies have now shifted to focus more and more on the healthy aspect of the meals of children for better learning. Overall the main goal is creating strong and healthy children, regardless of their socioeconomic status. In the process also keeping costs as low as possible. When President Truman began the NSLP program he had the best intentions set on the well–being of children. Unfortunately, as most free services that are given they have an unintended consequence. For instance, that administrators attempt to keep costs down results in high municipal waste that could not have been for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Parenting Styles In Romeo And Juliet In the past there were many known parenting styles. Parents didn't have to identify the way they raised their children as a "style", it was just parenting. Now, in the 21st century, there are three main types of parenting styles, the tiger parent, the helicopter parent, and the free range parent. Children of these parents constantly debate about which style is the best, so which is the to raise a child? Free range parenting is the best parenting technique. Free range parents have mastered the concept of parenting. A parent who is considered free range is someone who is "raising children in the spirit of encouraging then to function independently in proper accordance of their age" (Free Range 1). Free range guardians still love and care for their child the same and still are aware of boundaries; they just believe that they cannot hold their child's hand their whole life. To compare this genre of parenting to the Capulet parents in Romeo and Juliet, Lord capulet states that, "My will to her consent is but apart" (Shakespeare 808). Lord Capulet's statement shows a view of free range parenting, he will help his daughter make a choice but, he knows he cannot make it for her. These caregivers are parents with the most realistic views. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These parents hover constantly over their children, no matter the age. There are thousands of historians around the world that have contributed to making the world what it is to this current day. These personages have surmounted expectations as they have changed military, technological, political, economic, and social history. Considering, that Craig was being raised in a first world country, it was never brought to attention that crimes such as child slavery existed in the world. Only later when Free the Children was making headlines that North American countries were brought more attention of this issue. Craig Kielburger started a chain reaction as a number of other organisations were created to help eliminate crimes in third world countries. Granting all this, Craig had many individuals that spited him for his actions. People did not like the idea of a 12 year old telling them how to run their countries. This pushed Craig even more as Free the Children has grown into the largest international network of children helping children, with more than 100,000 youth involved in 35 countries. • 29. The Corruptive Nature Of Slavery In Beloved Toni Morrison's Beloved tells the story of ex slaves struggling to define themselves in their now free life. However, their traumatic experiences with slavery have left the characters cracked; they have been damaged to the point where they are only fragments of a true free person. The corruptive nature of slavery shines through these cracks in the characters, highlighting the fact that their experiences with slavery continue to fragment their personalities despite being free. This begs the question: can ex slaves truly be as "free" as a person who was never a slave? As shown by the ex slaves' struggle to define themselves, Morrison argues that, compared to a free man, the ex slaves can never be truly free. Morrison's philosophy of freedom is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She understands how slavery can destroy or "dirty" a person to the point where "you forgot who you were and couldn't think it up." This is the justification for trying to kill her children so they would never have to experience what it is like to have your identity stripped from you. Even though "she and others lived through and got over it", her personality/identity was so damaged that she didn't want her kids to live through slavery. However, Sethe failed to apply this to herself. She overlooked the fact that her own corruption led to her struggles with motherhood. In never learning how to properly mother a child, Sethe made the rash decision of killing them to free them from the horrors of slavery. In the passage above, Morrison uses the symbol of dirt to portray how Sethe's own corruption affected her children and hindered their freedom. In trying to save her children from the "dirt", Sethe dirtied her children anyway because slavery is so powerful that if it affects one, it affects all. The dirt of slavery never left Sethe and made it hard for her to discover herself and find her own freedom. Again, Morrison establishes the difference between being free and freeing oneself. The author finished her studies from Yale and Oxford universities. 'Free the Children' was first published in July 2003 in Time Magazine. This thought–provoking essay talks about letting the children enjoy their free time in the summer and burden them with extra work. It also talks about the possible consequences of overburdening them and the dangers of letting them free. In the essay, the writer used her own two daughters as examples. She writes about how she wanted them to experience freedom in the summer and not think about the future. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I feel this statement to be very spot–on. Summer was the time of the year when I sat down with a notepad and tried to figure out what I did wrong and the things I could have handled better. I went back to school in September a little bit wiser. I feel that this self–evaluation played a major role in shaping me into the person I am today. An alarming thought put forward by the writer was that it is okay for children to have a time they will not learn anything that will help them academically. The world is changing and the mindsets of children and their parents need to change with it too. Too much leisure time will be detrimental to the child's development and may encourage procrastination. I also believe that writer did not put enough emphasis on the degree of freedom she wanted children to have. We live in troubled times and there must be some limitations to the degree of freedom the children are allowed to enjoy. She failed to mention that parents must be wary of their children getting involved in unlawful activities and the consequences of such actions. Overall, I would like to say that most of the points mentioned by the writer in the essay were valid but I must add that some balance must be found between leisure and education, even if it is the summer. • 35. Children 's Lack Of Free Time "In factories and loom–sheds in India, Neap and Pakistan, hundreds of thousands of children as young as five are reported as working in near–slave conditions. They are put to work weaving and hand–knotting oriental rugs and carpets for export. Labouring up to 20 hours a day, seven days a week, they are often forced to eat and sleep where they work. Sometimes they are locked in at night. Children who make mistakes or try to run away risk being beaten, deprived of food or even tortured. These child workers are usually from the poorest families, toiling to pay off their parents' debt to a money broker. Needless to say, they don't get to go to school" (Litvinoff page 75). This quote displays the hopelessness these many of children face in their everyday life. They are forced to work an excruciating amount of time, with no hope of ever having a better life. These children are uneducated due to their lack of free time or money to attend school, which in turn strips away another possibility of rising up and breaking free of this vicious cycle that affects their family and fellow children. Within this job, they will never make enough money to earn a living, which will always put them in debt and having to work more and more. When these children grow up and potentially have children of their own, those children will be forced to follow in the same path as their parents. This cycle will continue until us the consumers intervene and attempt to help these children. If we were to help ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. The Prevalence Of Autism Spectrum Disorder Essay The apparent increase in the prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder in the United States has been a growing public concern. The lifelong condition can cause severe neurodevelopmental problems characterized by symptoms such as impaired communication, diminished social interaction, and unusual ritualistic behaviors (Johnson, Handen, Zimmer, Sacco, & Turner, 2010). Unfortunately, doctors and researchers have not been able to agree on the direct cause for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or ways to treat the various conditions on the Spectrum. With little definitive information, families affected by ASD seek alternative interventions. One of the more popular interventions is based off the hypothesis that "the physiology and psychology of autism might be explained by excessive opioid activity" due to gluten and casein (Millward, Ferriter, Calver, & Connell–Jones, 2008). According to research, people with ASD can have excess levels of gluten and casein peptides in their urine and spinal fluid; this is attributed to "abnormally porous intestinal membrane(s)" (Whiteley, Rodgers, Savery & Shattock, 1999; Knvisberg, Reichelt, Høien, & Nødland, 2002). Because gluten and casein are not properly digested in children with ASD, the peptides can enter the circulatory and central nervous systems. From there, research suggests that the peptides bind to opioid receptors, disrupting brain chemistry, thereby impairing cognitive function. In accordance with this hypothesis, some promote a ... Children, Black, And Free, By Margaret Walker Margaret Walker once said, "Handicapped as we have been by a racist system of dehumanizing slavery and segregation, our American history of nearly five hundred years reveals that our cultural and spiritual gifts brought from our African past are still intact" (On Being Female, Black, and Free; Essays by Margaret Walker, 1997). Basically this quote First, I think she goes out of her way to point out the struggles of many African Americans in an elegant and unique way. The dehumanizing of slavery and segregation is something that I believe has happened many times. It's easy to study these subjects time and time again and become numb to the fact that real people had to suffer through such conditions. We should all remember to use our full range of empathetic emotions when studying and thinking of anyone who has been through racist oppression such as slavery or segregation. Secondly, I think Margaret commends African Americans as she rightly should for being able to hold on to the important cultural and spiritual gifts from old. The era I have chosen is the Middle Passages and early American Slavery (pre–1793). The Middle Passage was apart of the Triangular Trade. Millions of people were shipped from Africa to America, the New World, which is referred to as the Atlantic Slave Trade. North America, Brazil, Spain, England, Portugal, France, and other countries took part in the Atlantic Slave Trade. In the early sixteenth century, the voyage lasted several months, but by the ... Why Do Children Need Creative Play There are many different styles in wich childeren use their free time, such as playing duck, duck, goose, building club houses, and creating imaginary world's to rule as they please. Some parents utilize that free time to enroll thier kids in sports, music lessons or group activities. In todays age most children are involved in some sort of technology, that consumes most of thier free time. So by letting children play wether it be creatively or organized, that experience can be a stepping stone to a bright and healthy future. When childs lives are filled with controlled activity, they need creative play to express who they are. Organized activities are very structured and usually have rules and decisions made by adults. Creative play is more hands on. Using materials the children can interpret how they see fit, and only thier judgment or imagination are the building blocks. Thus, child labour only can cause poor education to children, and can not give them any benefits. Be abused People think work doesn't harm children, but the truth is children sometimes are abused by their employers such as work as slaves and they may get sexual abuse. Children are easy to exploit through manipulation and psychological control mechanisms. They fear of violence and punishment. Also, they are inexperienced in life, so they only can trust adults. Thus, children easily get abuse from employers and are controlled by adults. For instance, in the coffee farm in Africa, a worker told a boy about a child who tried to escape, but failed. The child was caught and badly beaten. This made the boy afraid and scared. Therefore, fear of punishment make children keep working as slaves for employers. (Kielland & Tovo, 2006). Sexual abuse is really common in African child labourers. It causes some serious problem to children such as HIV/AIDS. Working children get sexual abuse more than non working children. Critical Understanding Of Teaching Philosophy Essay In our centre self–review report on play pedagogy in relation to Lion Kindergarten's teaching philosophy statement we will be underpinning the theoretical ideas around play and what play is and showing a critical understanding of play and playfulness. We will be identifying play in relation to children's learning and development, and teaching within New Zealand early childhood settings. We will then be identifying and critically discussing two aspects of play that are particularly important to the centre, and examine their strengths and challenges with reference to contemporary play theory, curriculum planning, and images of the children, of children and learning. These two aspects include relationships and the notion of free play. And we will be incorporating theoretical perspectives of play to support the evolving of the centers philosophy in relation to experimentation around their pedagogy of play. Above is our teaching philosophy statement and we have highlighted key ideas we believe to be the most important part of our statement. We believe in free play that involves the individual child as well as with their peers and teachers. We strongly believe in child initiated learning experiences based on children's interests. As noted by Wayne Carp, author of Adoption in America: Historical Perspectives: Adoption did not emerge as the preferred system of child care in the early nineteenth century because elite families with whom the children were placed often treated them as servants rather than family members. Most significantly, Porter finds that rather than the happy, successful adoption outcomes often portrayed by those favoring adoption, 20 percent of adopted children had negative family experiences. (Carp 3–4) New York was the home of the first adoption agencies from 1910 to 1930. They were created by Clara Spence, Alice Chaplin, and Florence Walrath. All three women shared the same ideas, they felt as though children born "out of wedlock" should be given up for adoption to a husband and wife, completing the family ("Adoption History: First Specialized"). Adoption cannot be free logically, because of all the costs and expenses involved during the process. If not from those who want to be adoptive parents, then where will the required money come from? If the government were to provide free adoptions, the funds needed would cut into other resources. Geoff ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 59. Persuasive Essay On Child Obesity Over the recent years, public concerns are drawn to fast growing number of children who are obese mainly caused by unhealthy eating. Child obesity lead to serious health problems and affecting mental well–being in childhood and later adult life. Therefore, healthy and balanced diets are crucial to prevent child obesity and help them to grow and develop well. In 2004, chef Jamie Oliver's Channel 4 television programme 'Feed Me Better' led a healthier dinner campaign to improve the low quality of food served in 80 schools. The public demanded for healthier school meals and supported for increased school meal funding. Nick Clegg, deputy prime minister, initiated the free school meals scheme. Since September 2014, all children under age of 8 attending state–funded schools in England are eligible for free hot meal at lunchtime every day. The policy is aiming to ensure that all children have chance to healthy lunch every day at school, improve children's health, behavior, educational attainment and social skills, promote long term healthy eating habits; support families with the cost of living, and eliminate disincentives to work. The UK government set the Free School Meals (FSM) pilot to investigate a range of impacts on the pupil outcomes. The two–year programme begins from September 2009 in three local authorities across the UK. In Durham and the London Borough of Newham, all primary school children in these areas were given free school lunches, in Wolverhampton the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. Should Children Have Free Access To Media Essay Should Children have Free Access to Media? Many sources of popular media, such as television, video games, and music, can lead to improvement in the intellectual or behavioral development of children, but at the same time, these sources of media can also be harmful to child development. Television is seen as one of the worst of the three, as it is seen as media source that requires no activity from the viewer, music can also help in the development of children's cognitive functions and abilities, but at the same time has been found to be potentially harmful for some children, and video games, surprisingly, have been found to be substantially beneficial to cognitive development in children. It is also vital for parents and children together, to explore the dangers and benefits that are offered to children through the medium of media and technology. Television has, for a long time, been believed to have many detrimental effects on young humans, particularly developing children because of they are in such an impressionable stage of development. Everything that they see, do, or hear impacts them. The non–fiction book, highlighting what the authors believe are issues with developing children being exposed to media, Impact of Media Use on Children and Youth (2003), claims that the use of media has many harmful effects and few helpful effects for developing children. The authors supported their claims by giving many facts that are well supported by scientific studies, listing a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Malala Yousafzai Influence Not many people are born with a sense of righteousness. Chances are, your beliefs are influenced by your surroundings and your life circumstances. This is the case for pretty much all activists. Certainly, activists are influenced by problems around them. Take Malala Yousafzai, Craig and Marc, and Emily–Anne Rigal for example. Malala is a "Global Advocate for Girls' Education" (malala.org), Craig and Marc are on a mission "to free children and their families from poverty and exploitation." (we.org), and Emily–Anne Rigal strives to end bullying. These young activists have seen or experienced things that drove them to speak out for what they think is right. It was more of the fact that she believes in education for all, and the environment that she grew up in did not support female education. Malala loved going to school. The young girl could have lived a fine life, if not for one thing: The lack of female rights in her home country, Pakistan. The Taliban, a religious group, bombed schools and buildings. Now fast forward to 2009. A young Malala started writing a blog for the BBC Urdu service under the pen name Gul Makai. She blogged about her fears of her school being attacked by the Taliban and increasing military activity. Television and music were banned, and women could not go outside without a male relative. Malala spoke out against this. She protested against Taliban policies and schools being shut down. In 2011, she received Pakistan's first National Youth Peace Prize. What did the Taliban think of this? A young girl in Pakistan speaking out against what she thought was wrong? The extremist group did the one thing they saw fit. They voted to kill her. And try to kill her they did. "On 9 October 2012, as Malala and her friends were travelling home from school, a masked gunman entered their school bus and asked for Malala by name. She was shot with a single bullet which went through her head, neck and shoulder." (malala.org) She was rushed to a hospital in Birmingham, United Kingdom. She survived. People thought it was a miracle. A teen girl fighting for education was shot in the head and survived. This ignited new hope in the hearts of many. Malala was finally released from the hospital a few months later. In 2014, Malala accepted the Nobel Peace Prize, sharing the award with Kailash Satyarthi. Malala grew up in an environment that looked down upon women. Schools were being bombed, and she was driven to speak out about it: "We realize the importance of our voices only when we are silenced. – Malala Yousafzai" (goodreads.com). • 71. Free Range Parenting Is Too Dangerous For Children Seungmin Jung Professor Steve Master COM 122 21 October 2015 One afternoon last december, in Washington, DC, police was alerted by a person to pick up a brother and sister, who were walking a mile heading home, and take them to their parents. After the police took the kids home, he warned the kids' father of potential dangers that his kids could have faced while walking unsupervised. (Griffin) These days, there are many other cases similar to this where kids walking home unsupervised are reported to authority and taken into supervision with their parents being warned in some ways as a consequence. So what makes kids walking home unsupervised such a nation–wide controversy? Free–range parenting. Nowadays, free–range parenting is quite a big issue as the world is changing so rapidly and is no longer the same world that parents in this generation could freely roam around in their own childhood. Some argue that free–range parenting is nothing more than a mere negligence over their children in that the world is now simply too dangerous for the children to explore on their own. They say that the world is no longer safe for a child to be outside alone and that so–called free–range parenting is just being irresponsible parents. However, they are wrong. Although free–range parenting may look so dangerous and unnecessarily risky, it, in fact, has far more advantages than disadvantages and is and has been an enormous necessity when raising children for a number of reasons: it makes ... In addition to denying these undocumented students access to free public schools, school districts in Texas were permitted to charge students tuition for enrollment. Some districts were cited for charging nearly $1,000 for enrollment. The attorneys on behalf of "certain school–age children of Mexican origin in Smith County, who could not establish they had been legally admitted into the United States' filed a class action suit in 1977" (Plyler v. The appellants stated the children of the case are not persons of the state's jurisdiction, because they are living in the state unlawfully and should be subject to deportation. They added it would be fiscally irresponsible to educate undocumented children because it would cost the state of Texas nearly $60 million per year to educate 20,000 children of undocumented immigrants and that money could be used on "legal" residents of the state. The appellants also argued a free public education for undocumented children will encourage more undocumented immigrants to Texas. Allowing undocumented children in Texas to free public education would place burdens on the educational system, because the state would have to higher more Bilingual education teachers. They added to their case by referencing another case held previously, San Antonio ISD v. Rodriguez 411 U.S. 1 (1973). In San Antonio ISD v. Rodriguez 411 U.S. 1 (1973) "the U.S. Supreme Court held that free public education was not a 'fundamental right' under the U.S. Constitution" (Case Briefs). They concluded their argument, by stating if the state requires free public education for these undocumented children, it will lead to others who have entered the county illegally demanding equal access to all public benefits such as food stamps, unemployment insurance, and free college ...
