Advantages And Disadvantages Of Scenario Planning
Scenario Planning and the Concepts Scenario thinking is usually a method as well as an ongoing
way to strategic planning. The methods starts by learning about the factors that might cause many
alterations in the world, these may include technology, social alteration, and surroundings change.
Further, it goes on to make sure that which of these impacts are most crucial and not specific. This
seeks the implications of these "crucial uncertainties" as they engage in various plausible ways to
make a range of expected futures. Moreover, the method works best when the mind–set and
imagination of participants is utilised early on so that divergent and new concepts are developed.
Nevertheless, the fact to be considered is that these new concepts have found, and the method is
completed by causing to bring the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scenario planning is considered as a science of art and prostrate to a number of traps (both in
method and content) as explained by Paul J. H. Schoemaker. Limitations of Scenario Planning There
are certain limitations in applying scenario planning in any organisation. The major trap is to make
use of the scenarios too literally as though they were realistic beacons that map out a settled future.
In reality, their aim and objective is to restrict the future but in an adjustable way that enables
learning and extensible adjustments as the future contains. Apart from some instinctive perspicacity
in scenario design, the technique can result from different methods and content traps. Limited
safeguards are found against political derailing, agenda management, myopia and limited
conception when carrying out scenario planning exercises within the authentic organizations.
Nevertheless, all the forecasting and predicting techniques would influence from such organizational
limitations and

Examples Of 7 Tenets For Building A Digital Enterprise Of...
7 Tenets for building a Digital Enterprise of future Doing business in this era has become like a
Space Mountain ride. Unlike normal rides, in Space Mountain everything is in pitch black darkness;
similarly future of business is concealed by clouds of uncertainty. Businesses are changing every
minute – new technologies are transforming the way they operate, new business models are posing
threat to the established ones. To throw light on it, lets consider the example of the automotive
industry. A few years back the market was dominated by car OEMs like GM, Honda, Jaguar, Toyota,
and Audi, and they were vigorously competing among themselves to be the market leader. Now
competition profile has changed to include IT companies like Google and ... Show more content on

It has to change dramatically and adapt faster; otherwise by the time you will be ready to embrace a
new technology, it will be already obsolete. This reminds me of Kodak. They were the inventor of
digital camera much before the actual digital camera came to market. However they did not pursue
the project further fearing the downfall of their film business. They treated digital as a distant
possibility. The rest is history everyone knows. In order to stay ahead of competitors, businesses
need to identify future opportunities and be ready for wave of changes that will be coming towards
them. They should not hesitate to make big bets and be the innovation driver themselves else their
competition will go ahead.  Redesign your business as digital business model Digital
transformation calls for a change in the business model as well. The traditional linear business
model (from supplier to consumer) will not work anymore. At present, platforms have dominated
the business scenario, where technology is the main driver instead of resource and cost as in the case
with traditional models. If you are still functioning in the linear fashion, it is time to rethink the
business model. In Mahindra & Mahindra ltd., we have understood the importance of this tenet quite
early and launched many such digital business models that disrupt the conventional way of doing
business. We had launched SmartShift – a technology enabled load exchange platform in 2015, and
became one of the first

Contingency Planning Paper
Contingency Planning
The Planning Phase of a contingency plan is created to minimize loss and to ensure that a business
critical infrastructure can continue normal operations in the event of a disaster. According to The
NIST a contingency planning refers to interim measures to recover information system services after
a disruption (Swanson et al. 2010, p. ES–1). Prior to creating a plan several question should be
address.
Management– Executive Board and Upper Management selects leadership throughout the business
to lead the process of developing a Contingency Plan. Out of that management Team a Crisis
management Team should be created that includes leaders and experts within the company that will
be the first responders incase a Disaster ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Training a staff before an actual incident takes place or before testing began will ensure that all
personnel involve in the training know their role and responsibility. Once training and
responsibilities have been establish, exercise can be started to test the plan. The following exercise
are use in the information systems.
Tabletop Exercise– Table Top exercise is a discussion base exercise where personnel meet in hall or
a classroom setting where a facilitator engages with personnel asking question associated with
scenarios. The objective is to start a discussion among the coworkers and decision makers. The
Table Top exercise does not involve setting up equipment. Table top exercises are ideal for low–
impact systems Functional Exercise– A functional exercise prepares personnel to perform their task
in simulated environment. Functional exercise are designed to exercise the roles and responsibilities
that one may encounter in a live situation. Functional exercises can be as simple as validating a
specific feature to as complex as a full–blown exercise. Functional exercises are ideal for moderate

The Issue Of Availability And Quality Of The Information...
4. Discuss the issue of availability and quality of the information that you base scenarios on.
In order for any scenario to be successful, the type of information used must be current, relevant and
reliable. If this is not the case then your scenario will not be effective at all, leading to a disastrous
event which might even proceed to an organisation losing a lot of money eventually closing down.
So carefully analysis of the type of information received and from which source is this information
received from must be considered.
When developing a scenario, a deep insightful research must be done in order to gather as much data
as possible; from this data serious analysis is done to scan the data and only taking that which is
useful (which now becomes useful information) in creating a scenario. The information needed here
is mostly about that relating to the future, so hence such information will be hard to find or come up
with. This is where the help of experts and external advisors comes to play, in order to verify the
information you have and also add into your information.
Companies usually have management information systems which they use to get the information
need, and in these management information systems there are feathers of scenarios built in, to make
the retrieval of information to be used in a scenario easier. Another way of getting the right type of
information for running scenarios would be through other applications such as spread sheets.

Modifications Needed For The Collected Information
Modifications needed for the collected information. Stage 1 Feasibility analysis – a basic analysis to
understand the goals of the collection, the scoping of the collection, choices for data collecting (new

should include: What are the goals of this data collecting (ie what are the questions to be answered?)
Who are the key stakeholders in this phase? What types of information do they need and in what
formats (eg what type of report can be developed, what are the levels of details that are needed, how
frequently are reports needed – on a basis of annual, quarterly, monthly or weely?) What are the data

Risks And Opportunities : Scenario Planning
To solve issues where there is strong differences of opinions, each of which has its merits, we can
use scenario planning. Scenarios are not forecasts of the future, but possibilities with an
infinitesimal chance of happening. These estimated outcomes are grounded, and not plain guessing.
Scenario planning endeavors to understand uncertainty by capture and highlight the critical issues
that might have an effect, and the relationship between them. The point of doing such estimates is to
evaluate all the different scenarios that might occur in the future so we can adapt quickly and make
the right decisions. Advantages of such planning can be early warnings of risks and opportunities,
and it can help to create innovative ideas, etc. A way of constructing different scenarios is to use the
extreme world method. This method starts with identifying the issues and the horizon year. Then we
identify current trends, (population growth, power shifts, investments levels, etc.), and uncertainties
that might influence the concerned issues, and analyze if they could have positive or negative
impacts on said issue. After, we create extreme worlds, and add predetermined trends to both
scenarios. Then we check for internal consistency, and add inn actions of individuals and groups. Set
objectives The objective with this case is to find a solution to the dispute concerning the
development of the TMT telescope on Mauna Kea. To find such a solution, we can utilize scenario
planning. However,

Societal Norms In Happy Endings By Margaret Atwood
The best and most beautiful thing in the world cannot be seen or touched; it is not something that
can be tasted; it can only be heard: Language. This abstract word brings wisdom and morals to
which man uses to live a more prominent life. Out of the many words of wisdom, there is only one
of which man should always have in the back of their head; There is no such thing as a happy
ending. The short story of "Happy Endings "by Canadian author Margaret Atwood is a story that
comments on the conventions of storytelling and draws attention to itself as a story. Through
Atwood's writing in the story, readers can then begin to understand the notion of societal norms tied
to the roles of the genders, the habits of sluggish literature, as well as unearth the broader message in
the irrelevancy of an "ending."
This tale is in actuality six stories in one. Atwood begins by introducing the readers to the two main
characters, john and Mary, a couple whose faits are changed six different ways throughout the
writing–in versions labeled A through F. Version A is referred to by Atwood as the "Happy Ending."
In this section, everything goes well for John and Mary," they buy a charming ... Show more content

Atwood sums in her finishing remarks; in the end, "John and Mary die, John and Mary die, John and
Mary die. "The anthology of "Happy Endings" forces the readers to question the meaning of life in
reference to the plot. Every story–carried to its chronological conclusion–has the same ending, since
all life has the same consummation. One may "bite the dust" in the heat of battle; one may die at a
young age by drowning in a swimming pool, or in a nursing home, by a loved one, or alone. Be that
as it may, there truly is no such thing as a happy ending; only a happy "middle" because man–just
like every form of matter––will meet its end. The story does not lie in its closure, rather, it lies in
what we do when we transit to there–the

1. Skill Acquired: Scenario Planning
Scenario planning is the core and most important skills during the scenario exercise. This is among
the skill that I have newly founded and practiced. In short, scenario planning is a skill to not predict
the future, instead it is a skill to determine multiple possible futures that might happen considering
the different plausible outcomes of current actions.

In order to execute a proper scenario planning, certain steps are needed to be followed. Skipping any

In fact, the use and value of scenario planning can be implemented at any levels in the organisations

Nowadays, any business is consider a Technology business where the organisations rely on their

Since IT industry is a fast emerging industry, any lack of security and protection can cause the
organisation to lose in opportunity and revenues which we called zero–day vulnerabilities. The

Case Analysis : On Travelink Solutions
Travelink Solutions

Introduction
The case analysis performed on Travelink Solutions is to evaluate the problem being faced by
Travelink and the decisions being made by the management which affect Travelink. The
Organization Change Theory helped me to get to know the type of change is going in the
organization. With the help of theories I can easily visualize the present scenario of the organization.
Change agents are critical as they are the sources of energy and intellect that help organization's
members recognize the need for change, see what the future may look like build support, and
mobilize the troops to move towards the vision, assess where and how to proceed next . The change
phase is analyzed with context to certain theories which fit the best in different situations. In this
case we came to know that while the change phase is going on we have to keep certain factors in our
mind that are related to the strategies that need to be implemented during the changing phase. The
expansion was there but after the expansion they did not focus on strategic planning and the
implementation.

A Literary Analysis Of Happy Endings By Margaret Atwood
Sean Heller

Dr. Dale Metcalfe
Because Unhappy Endings are Overrated
Margaret Atwood's "Happy Endings" is not a typical short story. With remarkable brevity, it
provides readers a gold mine for discussion on the nuances of relationships and storytelling. Best
described as metafiction, "Happy Endings" self–consciously draws attention to its artificiality; it is
less a story and moreover an instruction manual on how to write one. From a surface level, the
author parodies storytelling conventions. Upon deeper examination, however, the story is actually a
satire on on the collective psyche of the middle class. This essay will explore the story's meaning
from these two levels. In scenario A, Atwood introduces Mary and John. Their lives appear to be
happy and financially successful, approaching each milestone without mentioning any challenges.
They find their jobs "stimulating and challenging" (Atwood). They have "worthwhile friends," they
go on "fun vacations," and their children are "raised well" (Atwood). These characters are
remarkably flat, with adjectives "stimulating" and "challenging" describing three times.
From a surface level, Atwood parodies the unrealistic simplicity that fairytale–like stories present.
As children, readers are accustomed to stories with happy endings; two people fall in love, any
problems are solved, and all of the loose ends are tied up in the end. As these readers become adults,
however, they realize that life is not

Theme Of Happy Endings By Margaret Atwood
In "Happy Endings," Margaret Atwood manipulates literary techniques to emphasize how each story
can have different plots yet end up with the same ending. She makes the case that, in every ending,
the characters finish having a happy ending and "eventually they die" (paragraph 4). She infers that
it is the contents between the beginning, and the end that bring interest and challenge to the
characters, while the beginnings are more fun. The "true connoisseurs" is an important element
because it is what makes up the plot (paragraph 21). The six scenarios of "Happy Endings"
introduce differences in the beginning and the middle of the plot but result in the same ending. The
plot in each scenario focuses on the significance of understanding how ... Show more content on

In comparison to scene A, John and Mary have a "stimulating and challenging sex life" (paragraph
3). While in scene B, the sex life of the characters is more descriptive, as Atwood states that John
"fucks her [Mary] and after that he falls asleep" (paragraph 5). There is a shift in tone between these
two scenarios. For example, in scenario A, the tone appears to be so optimistic and positive that it is
almost impossible to believe that everything is going well with a smooth ending. With this over–
positive tone, Atwood inserts an instance of hyperbole where she repeats John and Mary's lives
being "worthwhile" and "stimulating and challenging" to suggest a fairy–tale like story. Within this
optimistic tone, a positive diction is also witnessed, throughout the story, when Atwood mentions
words like "remunerative," "worthwhile," "charming," "well," and "fun," to give the audience a
sense of perfect life. At the end, both eventually

A Research Study On Scenario Planning
Scenario planning is suggested as not just about submitting numbers and creating budget but
recognising the wider context of events. This is done by developing a small number of scenarios
through identifying key uncertainties in the environment which describe how the future might
unfold and then mapping decision trees consistent with optimising shareholder outcomes
(McKelvey, 2014). To analyse and contrast the variables a matrix can then be produced giving
several scenarios with a probability attached. The factors considered from the macro–environment
could either be a positive or negative impact on the organisations competitiveness. The idea is that,
the best way to prepare for an eventuality is to think through the event and consider alternatives for
responding to those situations should they occur (Von Oetinger, 2004). Firms can use these in two
ways, firstly to examine each scenario and determine whether the organisation 's current strategy
would allow survival and success, or organisations can examine a desired future state and plan the
actions that must be taken to achieve that scenario (Nelson, 2014). Corporations such as Shell
pioneered scenario planning in the 1970s as they realised traditional tools of forecasting became
strategically dangerous as the environment began to destabilize in the 1950s (Nelson, 2014). Shell
use scenarios at three levels to analyse the uncertainties in the environment from a; global, country
and business perspective. Shell used

This paper is a reflection on the experience of a group assignment which challenged the group to
consider ethical solutions associated with real life situations. Although, individuals have different
goods in which they protect and promote sometimes this limits agreement concerning what is right.
(Arnett, Harden, and Bell 2008, p. 25) In addition, this paper will also demonstrate how group
members can learn from each other, and consider the challenges, if any, a member might experience.
Overall, I absorbed an abundant of information from this project, which may be applied to my daily

when it comes to constructing ethical communication decisions. In fact, I believe, this project should

Disadvantages Of Scenario Planning
Scenario Planning is a way for organizations to sensibly consider possible futures and to take
appropriate decisions.
With the global economy developed, organizations have to live in a more complex and changeable
environment, making decision according to various factors that could make a difference, such as
technology, environment, regulation and policy etc. The ability to adapt changes and deal with
future possibility is vital for organizations to survive in a world changes rapidly. However,
traditional approaches to strategy may not be sufficient in such highly uncertain, intensive and
complex competitive markets (Celeste Amorim Varum, 2010). Scenario planning is another tool that
has gained increased attention during the last 20 years as an effective method for examining future

Scenario planning first emerged for application to businesses in a company set up for researching
new forms of weapons technology in the RAND Corporation in 1967(Thomas J. Chermack, 2002).
We all know that future cannot be predicted even the weather forecast, which based on accurate
data, is not that precise sometimes. Scenario planning provides a solution for organizations to
develop in uncertainty by assuming various possibilities about future and help people to make a
better decision or plan accordingly.
In my opinion, there are three advantages of scenario planning. Firstly, scenario planning can
improve the decision making mechanism and activate the managing system, making the decision
with a more scientific and democratic process. TAIDA™ is a well–tried model for scenario
planning. Hundreds of scenario projects have been carried out on the basis of the model in the past
decade (Mats Lindgren, 2003). TAIDA is short for five steps below: Tracking: trace changes and
signs of threats and opportunities; Analyzing: analyze consequences of the changes and generate
scenarios; Imaging: identify possibilities and create

Scenario Analysis Examples
Scenario analysis Scenario analysis explores trajectories of change that diverge from present
conditions, ultimately leading to alternative possible future states or events. In so doing, it provides
a dynamic and flexible way to evaluate policy or management options. Scenarios are not predictions
or forecasts; but rather, they are ''plausible and often simplified descriptions of how the future may
develop based on a coherent and internally consistent set of assumptions about driving forces and
key relationships'' (Houghton et al. 2001:796). Scenario analysis enables an exploration of the
potential impacts, risks, benefits, and management opportunities stemming from a variety of
plausible future conditions. When used in conjunction with modeling, scenario analysis can help
bridge the gap between science and decision making, throwing light on how land use changes will
affect hydrologic services across a range of spatial and temporal scales and allowing decision
makers to effectively prepare for such changes (Liu et al. 2008a, b, Mahmoud et al. 2009). To
provide guidance on the use of formal scenario analysis in environmental studies and decision
making, Liu et al. (2008b) and Mahmoud et al. (2009) proposed a guideline outlining an iterative
process for scenario development. Mahmoud et al. (2011) describe an application that illustrates this
in its entirety; other published scenario analyses provide useful examples of some of its individual
phases. Below, is a description of

The scenario planning method works by understanding the nature and impact of the most uncertain
and important driving forces affecting the future. It is a group process which encourages knowledge
exchange and development of mutual deeper understanding of central issues important to the future
of your business. The goal is to craft a number of diverging stories by extrapolating uncertain and
heavily influencing driving forces. The stories together with the work getting there has the dual
purpose of increasing the knowledge of the business environment and widen both the receiver's and
participant's perception of possible future events. The method is most widely used as a strategic
management tool, but it is also used for enabling group discussion about a common future

current situation. Based on this it is decided on what to do if the need arises for more ICU beds.
Whether there will be an inter–hospital transfer or intra–hospital transfer and the possibility of doing
both if the need arises. These decisions are then prepared for in advance. Stage 3 is when the plan
agreed upon in Stage 2 is implemented and when the fourth bed is filled (Tan).

Emergency Management Planning: What Does It Consist Of? Objective The objective of this study
is to examine what emergency management planning consists of and what went wrong in regards to
pre–9/11 emergency management on the local, state, and federal levels. This work will then compare
and contrast today's emergency management planning to that before the incident of September 11,
2011. I. Four Phases of Emergency Response Plan There are reported to be four phases of an
emergency response plan including the phases of: (1) Preparedness; (2) Mitigation; (3) Response;
and (4) Recovery. (ALN Magazine, 2012, p.1) The preparedness and planning stages involves
preparations that are needed to deal with an emergency or disaster including written plans and
procedures to make sure that there is sufficient maintenance of critical operations. Preparedness is
reported to be inclusive of: (1) identification of essential supplies and actions; (2) critical positions;
(3) specific roles and responsibilities; (4) orders of succession; and (5) delegation of specific
authorities and communication. (ALN Magazine, 2012, p.1) Preparedness involves designation of
one or more locations that are secure for staff during an emergency event. It is necessary to identify
communication methods and test the communication between locations. It is necessary to review
mutual aid and vendor contracts and important that all section of the plan are exercised in advance
of the actual emergency. ( ,

Why Students Were Wrong For Copying Articles Without...
IBA 150 Plagiarisms
Module One
The students were wrong for copying the articles without acknowledging the source.
When writers take content from another source, it's essential to give credit to the author, thus
avoiding plagiarism. Students who plagiarize are doing themselves to disservice and the author by
not giving her or him the credit they deserve. Students who copy from the articles either exhibit
laziness or lack the ability to think critically. These deficiencies can hinder a person's ability to write
with concisely and with a flow. The inability to think and write critically will be a struggle for
students who have difficulty developing their own thoughts.
I don't agree with the student's assessment in regards to not acknowledge the source.
Even though the author is unknown, it's important to provide sources, which will enhance the
validity of a research paper. Writing research papers without providing sources will likely be
analyzed by the professor and thus affects a student grade. Whoever thinks it's clever not to provide
sources are being negligent and their academic integrity should be questioned. As you stated in our
last meeting professor, once we enrolled in your class, it's a contractual agreement that students
should uphold.
I don't agree with the student's perspective in regards to cutting and pasting Wikipedia articles
without acknowledging the source. I recall some of my professors from Kingsborough
Community College informing students that we were not

Project Database Planning Process On The Needs Of A...
1.1 Database Planning
This project bases the database planning process on the needs of a beverage company. The company
is known to manufacture, market, and distribute soft drink products internationally. Analysts prepare
budget forecasts and compare performance to budget forecasts on a monthly basis. The measures
that analysts track are profit, loss and inventory from the financial database. The company uses huge
spreadsheet packages to prepare budget data and perform variance reporting. Because they plan and
track a variety of products over several markets, deriving and analyzing data is tedious because it is
done manually. Last month, they spent most of their time entering and rekeying data and preparing
reports. They have determined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Emergency Planning For A Worst Case Scenario
Looking back at the past eight weeks', disasters have continued to occur across the United States.
There have been riots in Baltimore Maryland, wildfires throughout the state of California and most
of the Western United States, and more recently flooding in south–central New Orleans. As first
responders, like the rest of the world, we wake up in the morning put both feet on the floor, go
through some morning routine and most often fail to realize that today's the day a disaster will
occur. It may not be the people we serve, or in the community in which we live, but the potential is
always there. Emergency planning is a pivotal key in being prepared for a worst case scenario. Since
Hurricane Katrina, the federal government, state and local officials have stepped up their game in
disaster planning. The federal government has established numerous guidelines and protocols for
such events. The National Response Framework (NRF) superseded by the National Response Plan
(NRP), the National Incident Management System (NIMS), and the Stafford Act are just a few of
the government 's key programs. Recognized nationally bringing resources across the nation
together and on the same page (Kramer Ph.D., 2009, p. 18).
Currently, the disastrous flooding in Louisiana is a result of more than 20 inches of rain in a weeks'
time (Grinberg, Yan, & Flores, 2016, para. 6). A disaster of this size and magnitude is difficult to
imagine anyone could be prepared for it, even if they were aware it

Bp : The Spill Of The Gulf Of Mexico
On April 20, 2010, an explosion occurred aboard BP contracted Transocean Ltd Deepwater Horizon
oil rig stationed in the Gulf of Mexico. Eleven workers were killed instantly. Unfortunately, the BP
management did not wake up that morning (or countless mornings before) expecting the event to
occur for it took them almost 4 months to clean up the spill. The first month was spent forecasting
the rate of the spill and having President Barack Obama tour the site. Only on May 26, 2010 did BP
initiate the first form of clean up procedure known as "top kill". Needless to say, this attempt failed.
Thus, well over into the second month after the incident, oil remained leaking and BP had not yet
figured out how to contain it. Finally on July 10, 2010 BP removed a timeworn containment cap
from the well to install a new one. At last, on July 15, the oil stopped flowing freely. Noting that it
took BP over 4 months to replace a timeworn containment cap just to stop oil from contaminating
the Gulf of Mexico, it is readily questioned why such a well–established mega giant never
considered the chance of having a blast at an operating site. On the bright side, due to this incident
and similar others, numerous organizations have been formulating and establishing emergency or
disaster plans and policies to respond to a variety of disaster scenarios. Thus, suggesting that
contingency planning is imperative for an organization in the long run in order to avoid massive
instant loss since there

Travelink Solutions
Case study
Introduction
The case analysis performed on Travelink Solutions is to evaluate the problem facing by the
Travelink and the decisions taken by the management which affected
Travelink. The Organization Change Theory helped me to get to know what
Change is going in the organization. With the help of theories I can easily visualize what exactly is
happening. Change agents are critical as they are the sources of energy and intellect that help
organizational members recognize the need for change, see what the future may look like build
support, and mobilize the troops to move towards the vision, assess where and how to proceed next .
The change phase is analyzed with context to certain theories which fits the best in different
situation. In this case we came to know that while the change phase is going on with have to keep
certain factors in our mind which are related to the strategies to be implemented during the change
phase. The expansion was there but after the expansion they did not focus on strategically planning
and the implementation.
Management and Its Strategic Issues

followed and human resources practices like performance appraisal system, training and
development, recruitment, hiring, compensation system was in place. It includes any formal

The Effects Of Tylenol Products On The Economy
According to Lewis (2006), crisis is "an interruption from previously normal state of functioning
resulting in turmoil, instability, and a significant upheaval to a system" (p. 27). In other words, a
crisis is a negative predictable or unpredictable event that affects the future trend of individuals,
groups, organizations, and government. For instance, pharmaceutical company Johnson and Johnson
had an unpredictable crisis in 1982 with its product Tylenol, which was laced with cyanide and led
to several murders in Chicago. The events of this crisis could have changed the perception of
Tylenol products. Another example of organizational crisis was the predictable 2012 Hurricane
Sandy. Although companies of all sizes expected the Hurricane due to the weather forecasting, some
areas in New York and New Jersey were affected worse than others. There were businesses that
terminated operations for several business days. In addition to Hurricane Sandy being an
organizational crisis, it was also a crisis for many families that lost power in their homes and a crisis
for government departments such as FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), and other
agencies within local and state governments.
Anxiety (or stress) should not be mistaken for a crisis. For instance, a parent being late picking–up
his/her child from a daycare is not a crisis, it is anxiety that is sometimes manifested with a fast
heartbeat, extreme sweating, etc. On the other hand, the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting

The instructions Mrs. Ross gave told students they could choose their own partner. There was never

students to pick their own partner. 4. What conflicts did you observe in this classroom? What
conflict resolution methods could you use to resolve the conflicts in this classroom? Are there any
peer mediation methods that you could use in this scenario?
The conflict in the classroom was between Teresa and Megan. To resolve the conflict I would bring
the two students together and have them work cooperatively on the issue with my guidance. I would
want both students to feel free to speak their mind, feel listened to, and feel that they are an
important part of the solution. I would want them to understand that they both need to be respectful,
listen to each other, and try to understand the others' point of view. As part of the process I would
also expect them to work together to come to an agreement they both feel good about. I would not
use peer mediation methods in a fourth grade class. 5. What changes would you make to help this
classroom become more of a community? Why would developing this classroom into a community
be important?
I don't see any changes I would make, but something I would talk to the class about to make the
classroom become more of a community would be respect. I would plan a mini lesson on respect
and how we treat others for another day.

Settings and Actors: What´s Mise-en-scene? Essay
Overview: –
The objective of the creative project is to familiarize with the aspects of mise–en–scene by means of
implementing them in a practical form. The creative project two will showcase how certain degree
of changes made with respect to features of mise–en–scene can bring about a differentiation in genre
and scenic atmosphere without any alterations brought about in the script. Following aspects such as
settings, props, décor, actors, lighting, costume, makeup, space, time, and focusing on the rules that
bind these commandments together, effort will be made to bring across authenticity in describing the
genres as well as in the creation of scenic atmospheres.

or hard light. The filters that shall be used in the scenarios shall only be set once the script is
complete. There shall be a difference in décor, as both these scenarios will not be correlated. The
same can be said about the costumes. The placement of the camera, the amalgamation of the type of
shots required shall further help provide scenic realism and help derive a desired emotion. The goal
is to understand these elements better by further research and practice.
Literature Review (Summary): –
John Gibbs mentions mise–en–scene to be contents within a frame and the way they are organized
(Gibbs, 2002). Settings and sets are the most fundamental features of mise–en–scene (Corrigan,
2004). Tim Corrigan describes the term setting as a fictional or real place in which the action of the
scene takes place and defines sets as a setting of a studio sound stage. He also mentions that both
these components can be a product of a combination of elements that are natural and constructed.
David Bordwell, mentions that settings can play a more vital role with respect to the narrative, rather
than just fulfilling their primary function of being a platform for human events to occur (Bordwell,
1979). The books provide a breakdown

Four Week's Business Analysis Technique
For this week's business analysis technique I have chosen technique 68. This technique looks at
developing different business scenarios in order to: determine clarity in a situation, valuation of
techniques, identify areas of support, or a subsequent for user training. By reviewing the different
scenarios you have the ability to fine tune your business model and position the company for a
sustainable growth. For the past ten years I have relied on these different scenarios in order to test
the effectiveness of marketing and training. By going into a retail environment and posing as a
customer I get the opportunity to see how employees interact with customers and test their
knowledge of the products. This would be considered concrete examples of success or failure. In

When a business use scenario planning to explore the macro environment regarding to social,
technological, economic and political issues , it will obtain significant achievement (Ratcliffe,2000).
For instance, nowadays ANZ is considered as the best famous bank for the fact of connection
between Australian banks. Additionally, it is also in a well establishment in Asia market because it
has planning to be active in Asia. It is clear that ANZ will be further to obtain long term sustainable
growth and profitability.
Different from scenario planning, forecasting is concerned with what will happen. Vander Heijden
(2005) shows that the scenario planning is designed to get people to ask question whereas the task of
forecasting is giving the answer (p.6). According to Choi (2011), forecast will be suggested by
managers which helps to strengthen the relationship between returns of future profits. It is also
increasing the company's future profitability. This report will argue that when Australian banks
adopt forecasting and scenario planning, they definitely have enjoyed success in Asia in time.

Planning to the Finish Line Essay
One of the most instrumental parts of being an effective leader is the ability to complete a project or
task from beginning to end, whether it is in a team setting or an individual basis. There are many
elements that factor into facilitating a project all the way to successful completion. Best described as
the Deming Wheel, it is necessary for a leader to "Plan, Do, Check, and Act" if one hopes to
complete any project in the constantly changing world of business. (Kreitner, 2008) The most
considerable step in what has become the "how–to" of completing any task is the planning step.
(Clark, 2008) Kreitner (2008) explains why the planning step is so crucial in stating, "...the PDCA
cycle reminds managers (leaders) to focus on what is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the reasons it is so effective is that the brainstormers not only come up with new ideas in a
session, but also spark off from associations with other people's ideas by developing and refining
them." If an effective leader focuses on the task and appreciates the varied views of each team
member, an effective brainstorming session can provide a team with the questions that need
answering before and while they are working toward their common objective. The questions that are
brought up in a brainstorming session all stem from what lies at the finish line. There are the
obvious who, what, where, why questions, but as a good brainstorming session will show a team,
there are many more questions necessary in order to properly plan for achieving a goal or
completing a project. By clearly stating where the finish line is a good leader can help a team see the
many paths to get there. Questions like, "Who does it involve and who will do what? What are we
going to do? What will happen if we do not do it? When does it start and end? Where will it take
place? How will it take place? Why must we do it?" are the best starting point to spark the ideas
necessary to create the deeper questions that can help a team affectively plan their path to the finish
line. (Clark, 2008) The deeper questions are situational but, for

Scenario Thinking Or Scenario Analysis
Introduction
This research report is based on scenarios, and the fact that they don't predict the future, but they
appear to be more like hypotheses that ask "what if" though in a disciplined manner. Scenarios are
stories, images or maps of the future. There is more to a scenario than what meets the ear or eye and
in this research report I will be explaining further to you what scenarios are by answering questions
about them. Let us read further and discover more about scenarios.
Definition of a Scenario
A scenario is a view of possible alternatives of the world (events or situations) which are described
in a form of a story (narrative) that might help managers make better executive or strategic
decisions. A scenario is a process of visualizing what future conditions or events are probable, what
their consequences or effects would be like, and how to respond to, or benefit from, them. Scenario
planning also called scenario thinking or scenario analysis is a strategic planning method that some
organizations use to make flexible long–term plans.
1. Scenarios can't predict the future, so what's the point?" Critically evaluate this statement.
Scenario are not there to predict the future as such, they are to offer a series of alternative futures in
which today's decisions may play out. Unlike forecasts (which predicts future possibilities),
scenarios are actual a story or stories which have a beginning, a middle and an ending. If you are to
construct a good scenario, it

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Scenario Planning

  • 1. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Scenario Planning Scenario Planning and the Concepts Scenario thinking is usually a method as well as an ongoing way to strategic planning. The methods starts by learning about the factors that might cause many alterations in the world, these may include technology, social alteration, and surroundings change. Further, it goes on to make sure that which of these impacts are most crucial and not specific. This seeks the implications of these "crucial uncertainties" as they engage in various plausible ways to make a range of expected futures. Moreover, the method works best when the mind–set and imagination of participants is utilised early on so that divergent and new concepts are developed. Nevertheless, the fact to be considered is that these new concepts have found, and the method is completed by causing to bring the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scenario planning is considered as a science of art and prostrate to a number of traps (both in method and content) as explained by Paul J. H. Schoemaker. Limitations of Scenario Planning There are certain limitations in applying scenario planning in any organisation. The major trap is to make use of the scenarios too literally as though they were realistic beacons that map out a settled future. In reality, their aim and objective is to restrict the future but in an adjustable way that enables learning and extensible adjustments as the future contains. Apart from some instinctive perspicacity in scenario design, the technique can result from different methods and content traps. Limited safeguards are found against political derailing, agenda management, myopia and limited conception when carrying out scenario planning exercises within the authentic organizations. • 3. Examples Of 7 Tenets For Building A Digital Enterprise Of... 7 Tenets for building a Digital Enterprise of future Doing business in this era has become like a Space Mountain ride. Unlike normal rides, in Space Mountain everything is in pitch black darkness; similarly future of business is concealed by clouds of uncertainty. Businesses are changing every minute – new technologies are transforming the way they operate, new business models are posing threat to the established ones. To throw light on it, lets consider the example of the automotive industry. A few years back the market was dominated by car OEMs like GM, Honda, Jaguar, Toyota, and Audi, and they were vigorously competing among themselves to be the market leader. Now competition profile has changed to include IT companies like Google and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has to change dramatically and adapt faster; otherwise by the time you will be ready to embrace a new technology, it will be already obsolete. This reminds me of Kodak. They were the inventor of digital camera much before the actual digital camera came to market. However they did not pursue the project further fearing the downfall of their film business. They treated digital as a distant possibility. The rest is history everyone knows. In order to stay ahead of competitors, businesses need to identify future opportunities and be ready for wave of changes that will be coming towards them. They should not hesitate to make big bets and be the innovation driver themselves else their competition will go ahead.  Redesign your business as digital business model Digital transformation calls for a change in the business model as well. The traditional linear business model (from supplier to consumer) will not work anymore. At present, platforms have dominated the business scenario, where technology is the main driver instead of resource and cost as in the case with traditional models. If you are still functioning in the linear fashion, it is time to rethink the business model. In Mahindra & Mahindra ltd., we have understood the importance of this tenet quite early and launched many such digital business models that disrupt the conventional way of doing business. We had launched SmartShift – a technology enabled load exchange platform in 2015, and became one of the first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Issue Of Availability And Quality Of The Information... 4. Discuss the issue of availability and quality of the information that you base scenarios on. In order for any scenario to be successful, the type of information used must be current, relevant and reliable. If this is not the case then your scenario will not be effective at all, leading to a disastrous event which might even proceed to an organisation losing a lot of money eventually closing down. So carefully analysis of the type of information received and from which source is this information received from must be considered. When developing a scenario, a deep insightful research must be done in order to gather as much data as possible; from this data serious analysis is done to scan the data and only taking that which is useful (which now becomes useful information) in creating a scenario. The information needed here is mostly about that relating to the future, so hence such information will be hard to find or come up with. This is where the help of experts and external advisors comes to play, in order to verify the information you have and also add into your information. Companies usually have management information systems which they use to get the information need, and in these management information systems there are feathers of scenarios built in, to make the retrieval of information to be used in a scenario easier. Another way of getting the right type of information for running scenarios would be through other applications such as spread sheets. Since we are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stage 1 Feasibility analysis – a basic analysis to understand the goals of the collection, the scoping of the collection, choices for data collecting (new collecting or adjusted current collecting), data needed and methods to use. The feasibility analysis should include: What are the goals of this data collecting (ie what are the questions to be answered?) Who are the key stakeholders in this phase? We need to have a clear understanding with the following questions: Are there current standards or level for the data item that are needed? If not these need to be established. Are there any existing trend or pattern that can be applied? In this case we can consider using the MS Excel spreadsheet to sort, filter and summarise the collected data. How can the data be gathered – can it be gathered from operational system, or can a paper based document needs to be developed as a final solution? Who can be offering the data? Can extra resource be needed to implement the data collection? • 11. Risks And Opportunities : Scenario Planning To solve issues where there is strong differences of opinions, each of which has its merits, we can use scenario planning. Scenarios are not forecasts of the future, but possibilities with an infinitesimal chance of happening. These estimated outcomes are grounded, and not plain guessing. Scenario planning endeavors to understand uncertainty by capture and highlight the critical issues that might have an effect, and the relationship between them. The point of doing such estimates is to evaluate all the different scenarios that might occur in the future so we can adapt quickly and make the right decisions. Advantages of such planning can be early warnings of risks and opportunities, and it can help to create innovative ideas, etc. A way of constructing different scenarios is to use the extreme world method. This method starts with identifying the issues and the horizon year. Then we identify current trends, (population growth, power shifts, investments levels, etc.), and uncertainties that might influence the concerned issues, and analyze if they could have positive or negative impacts on said issue. After, we create extreme worlds, and add predetermined trends to both scenarios. Then we check for internal consistency, and add inn actions of individuals and groups. Set objectives The objective with this case is to find a solution to the dispute concerning the development of the TMT telescope on Mauna Kea. To find such a solution, we can utilize scenario planning. However, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Societal Norms In Happy Endings By Margaret Atwood The best and most beautiful thing in the world cannot be seen or touched; it is not something that can be tasted; it can only be heard: Language. This abstract word brings wisdom and morals to which man uses to live a more prominent life. Out of the many words of wisdom, there is only one of which man should always have in the back of their head; There is no such thing as a happy ending. The short story of "Happy Endings "by Canadian author Margaret Atwood is a story that comments on the conventions of storytelling and draws attention to itself as a story. Through Atwood's writing in the story, readers can then begin to understand the notion of societal norms tied to the roles of the genders, the habits of sluggish literature, as well as unearth the broader message in the irrelevancy of an "ending." This tale is in actuality six stories in one. Atwood begins by introducing the readers to the two main characters, john and Mary, a couple whose faits are changed six different ways throughout the writing–in versions labeled A through F. Version A is referred to by Atwood as the "Happy Ending." In this section, everything goes well for John and Mary," they buy a charming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Atwood sums in her finishing remarks; in the end, "John and Mary die, John and Mary die, John and Mary die. "The anthology of "Happy Endings" forces the readers to question the meaning of life in reference to the plot. Every story–carried to its chronological conclusion–has the same ending, since all life has the same consummation. One may "bite the dust" in the heat of battle; one may die at a young age by drowning in a swimming pool, or in a nursing home, by a loved one, or alone. Be that as it may, there truly is no such thing as a happy ending; only a happy "middle" because man–just like every form of matter––will meet its end. • 15. Research Paper On Scenario Planning 1. Skill Acquired: Scenario Planning Scenario planning is the core and most important skills during the scenario exercise. This is among the skill that I have newly founded and practiced. In short, scenario planning is a skill to not predict the future, instead it is a skill to determine multiple possible futures that might happen considering the different plausible outcomes of current actions. 2. The Learning Process 2.1. The Challenges In order to execute a proper scenario planning, certain steps are needed to be followed. Contrariwise, most Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Board of Directors of an organisation still does not have or lack of IT background. Case Analysis : On Travelink Solutions Travelink Solutions Case study Introduction The case analysis performed on Travelink Solutions is to evaluate the problem being faced by Travelink and the decisions being made by the management which affect Travelink. The Organization Change Theory helped me to get to know the type of change is going in the organization. With the help of theories I can easily visualize the present scenario of the organization. Change agents are critical as they are the sources of energy and intellect that help organization's members recognize the need for change, see what the future may look like build support, and mobilize the troops to move towards the vision, assess where and how to proceed next . The change phase is analyzed with context to certain theories which fit the best in different situations. In this case we came to know that while the change phase is going on we have to keep certain factors in our mind that are related to the strategies that need to be implemented during the changing phase. • 21. A Literary Analysis Of Happy Endings By Margaret Atwood Sean Heller LTWR 100 August 30th, 2017 Dr. Dale Metcalfe Because Unhappy Endings are Overrated Margaret Atwood's "Happy Endings" is not a typical short story. With remarkable brevity, it provides readers a gold mine for discussion on the nuances of relationships and storytelling. Best described as metafiction, "Happy Endings" self–consciously draws attention to its artificiality; it is less a story and moreover an instruction manual on how to write one. From a surface level, the author parodies storytelling conventions. Upon deeper examination, however, the story is actually a satire on on the collective psyche of the middle class. This essay will explore the story's meaning from these two levels. In scenario A, Atwood introduces Mary and John. Their lives appear to be happy and financially successful, approaching each milestone without mentioning any challenges. They find their jobs "stimulating and challenging" (Atwood). They have "worthwhile friends," they go on "fun vacations," and their children are "raised well" (Atwood). These characters are remarkably flat, with adjectives "stimulating" and "challenging" describing three times. From a surface level, Atwood parodies the unrealistic simplicity that fairytale–like stories present. As children, readers are accustomed to stories with happy endings; two people fall in love, any problems are solved, and all of the loose ends are tied up in the end. As these readers become adults, however, they realize that life is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Theme Of Happy Endings By Margaret Atwood In "Happy Endings," Margaret Atwood manipulates literary techniques to emphasize how each story can have different plots yet end up with the same ending. She makes the case that, in every ending, the characters finish having a happy ending and "eventually they die" (paragraph 4). She infers that it is the contents between the beginning, and the end that bring interest and challenge to the characters, while the beginnings are more fun. The "true connoisseurs" is an important element because it is what makes up the plot (paragraph 21). The six scenarios of "Happy Endings" introduce differences in the beginning and the middle of the plot but result in the same ending. The plot in each scenario focuses on the significance of understanding how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In comparison to scene A, John and Mary have a "stimulating and challenging sex life" (paragraph 3). While in scene B, the sex life of the characters is more descriptive, as Atwood states that John "fucks her [Mary] and after that he falls asleep" (paragraph 5). There is a shift in tone between these two scenarios. For example, in scenario A, the tone appears to be so optimistic and positive that it is almost impossible to believe that everything is going well with a smooth ending. With this over– positive tone, Atwood inserts an instance of hyperbole where she repeats John and Mary's lives being "worthwhile" and "stimulating and challenging" to suggest a fairy–tale like story. Within this optimistic tone, a positive diction is also witnessed, throughout the story, when Atwood mentions words like "remunerative," "worthwhile," "charming," "well," and "fun," to give the audience a sense of perfect life. • 25. A Research Study On Scenario Planning Scenario planning is suggested as not just about submitting numbers and creating budget but recognising the wider context of events. This is done by developing a small number of scenarios through identifying key uncertainties in the environment which describe how the future might unfold and then mapping decision trees consistent with optimising shareholder outcomes (McKelvey, 2014). To analyse and contrast the variables a matrix can then be produced giving several scenarios with a probability attached. The factors considered from the macro–environment could either be a positive or negative impact on the organisations competitiveness. The idea is that, the best way to prepare for an eventuality is to think through the event and consider alternatives for responding to those situations should they occur (Von Oetinger, 2004). Firms can use these in two ways, firstly to examine each scenario and determine whether the organisation 's current strategy would allow survival and success, or organisations can examine a desired future state and plan the actions that must be taken to achieve that scenario (Nelson, 2014). Corporations such as Shell pioneered scenario planning in the 1970s as they realised traditional tools of forecasting became strategically dangerous as the environment began to destabilize in the 1950s (Nelson, 2014). Shell use scenarios at three levels to analyse the uncertainties in the environment from a; global, country and business perspective. Shell used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper is a reflection on the experience of a group assignment which challenged the group to consider ethical solutions associated with real life situations. Although, individuals have different goods in which they protect and promote sometimes this limits agreement concerning what is right. (Arnett, Harden, and Bell 2008, p. 25) In addition, this paper will also demonstrate how group members can learn from each other, and consider the challenges, if any, a member might experience. Overall, I absorbed an abundant of information from this project, which may be applied to my daily life. As a participant of a group, I thought it was motivating to listen to another person's perspective when it comes to constructing ethical communication decisions. In fact, I believe, this project should be utilized in the employment industry. With the global economy developed, organizations have to live in a more complex and changeable environment, making decision according to various factors that could make a difference, such as technology, environment, regulation and policy etc. The ability to adapt changes and deal with future possibility is vital for organizations to survive in a world changes rapidly. However, traditional approaches to strategy may not be sufficient in such highly uncertain, intensive and complex competitive markets (Celeste Amorim Varum, 2010). Scenario planning first emerged for application to businesses in a company set up for researching new forms of weapons technology in the RAND Corporation in 1967(Thomas J. Chermack, 2002). Scenario planning provides a solution for organizations to develop in uncertainty by assuming various possibilities about future and help people to make a better decision or plan accordingly. In my opinion, there are three advantages of scenario planning. Firstly, scenario planning can improve the decision making mechanism and activate the managing system, making the decision with a more scientific and democratic process. TAIDA™ is a well–tried model for scenario planning. Hundreds of scenario projects have been carried out on the basis of the model in the past decade (Mats Lindgren, 2003). • 33. Scenario Analysis Examples Scenario analysis Scenario analysis explores trajectories of change that diverge from present conditions, ultimately leading to alternative possible future states or events. In so doing, it provides a dynamic and flexible way to evaluate policy or management options. Scenarios are not predictions or forecasts; but rather, they are ''plausible and often simplified descriptions of how the future may develop based on a coherent and internally consistent set of assumptions about driving forces and key relationships'' (Houghton et al. 2001:796). Scenario analysis enables an exploration of the potential impacts, risks, benefits, and management opportunities stemming from a variety of plausible future conditions. When used in conjunction with modeling, scenario analysis can help bridge the gap between science and decision making, throwing light on how land use changes will affect hydrologic services across a range of spatial and temporal scales and allowing decision makers to effectively prepare for such changes (Liu et al. 2008a, b, Mahmoud et al. 2009). To provide guidance on the use of formal scenario analysis in environmental studies and decision making, Liu et al. (2008b) and Mahmoud et al. (2009) proposed a guideline outlining an iterative process for scenario development. Mahmoud et al. (2011) describe an application that illustrates this in its entirety; other published scenario analyses provide useful examples of some of its individual phases. Below, is a description of ... When writers take content from another source, it's essential to give credit to the author, thus avoiding plagiarism. Students who plagiarize are doing themselves to disservice and the author by not giving her or him the credit they deserve. Students who copy from the articles either exhibit laziness or lack the ability to think critically. These deficiencies can hinder a person's ability to write with concisely and with a flow. The inability to think and write critically will be a struggle for students who have difficulty developing their own thoughts. I don't agree with the student's assessment in regards to not acknowledge the source. Even though the author is unknown, it's important to provide sources, which will enhance the validity of a research paper. Writing research papers without providing sources will likely be analyzed by the professor and thus affects a student grade. Whoever thinks it's clever not to provide sources are being negligent and their academic integrity should be questioned. As you stated in our last meeting professor, once we enrolled in your class, it's a contractual agreement that students should uphold. There have been riots in Baltimore Maryland, wildfires throughout the state of California and most of the Western United States, and more recently flooding in south–central New Orleans. As first responders, like the rest of the world, we wake up in the morning put both feet on the floor, go through some morning routine and most often fail to realize that today's the day a disaster will occur. It may not be the people we serve, or in the community in which we live, but the potential is always there. Emergency planning is a pivotal key in being prepared for a worst case scenario. Since Hurricane Katrina, the federal government, state and local officials have stepped up their game in disaster planning. The federal government has established numerous guidelines and protocols for such events. The National Response Framework (NRF) superseded by the National Response Plan (NRP), the National Incident Management System (NIMS), and the Stafford Act are just a few of the government 's key programs. Eleven workers were killed instantly. Unfortunately, the BP management did not wake up that morning (or countless mornings before) expecting the event to occur for it took them almost 4 months to clean up the spill. The first month was spent forecasting the rate of the spill and having President Barack Obama tour the site. Only on May 26, 2010 did BP initiate the first form of clean up procedure known as "top kill". Needless to say, this attempt failed. Thus, well over into the second month after the incident, oil remained leaking and BP had not yet figured out how to contain it. Finally on July 10, 2010 BP removed a timeworn containment cap from the well to install a new one. At last, on July 15, the oil stopped flowing freely. Noting that it took BP over 4 months to replace a timeworn containment cap just to stop oil from contaminating the Gulf of Mexico, it is readily questioned why such a well–established mega giant never considered the chance of having a blast at an operating site. • 62. The Effects Of Tylenol Products On The Economy According to Lewis (2006), crisis is "an interruption from previously normal state of functioning resulting in turmoil, instability, and a significant upheaval to a system" (p. 27). In other words, a crisis is a negative predictable or unpredictable event that affects the future trend of individuals, groups, organizations, and government. For instance, pharmaceutical company Johnson and Johnson had an unpredictable crisis in 1982 with its product Tylenol, which was laced with cyanide and led to several murders in Chicago. The events of this crisis could have changed the perception of Tylenol products. Another example of organizational crisis was the predictable 2012 Hurricane Sandy. Although companies of all sizes expected the Hurricane due to the weather forecasting, some areas in New York and New Jersey were affected worse than others. There were businesses that terminated operations for several business days. In addition to Hurricane Sandy being an organizational crisis, it was also a crisis for many families that lost power in their homes and a crisis for government departments such as FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), and other agencies within local and state governments. Anxiety (or stress) should not be mistaken for a crisis. For instance, a parent being late picking–up his/her child from a daycare is not a crisis, it is anxiety that is sometimes manifested with a fast heartbeat, extreme sweating, etc. On the other hand, the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting ... Settings and sets are the most fundamental features of mise–en–scene (Corrigan, 2004). He also mentions that both these components can be a product of a combination of elements that are natural and constructed. David Bordwell, mentions that settings can play a more vital role with respect to the narrative, rather than just fulfilling their primary function of being a platform for human events to occur (Bordwell, 1979). • 77. Planning to the Finish Line Essay One of the most instrumental parts of being an effective leader is the ability to complete a project or task from beginning to end, whether it is in a team setting or an individual basis. There are many elements that factor into facilitating a project all the way to successful completion. Best described as the Deming Wheel, it is necessary for a leader to "Plan, Do, Check, and Act" if one hopes to complete any project in the constantly changing world of business. (Kreitner, 2008) The most considerable step in what has become the "how–to" of completing any task is the planning step. (Clark, 2008) Kreitner (2008) explains why the planning step is so crucial in stating, "...the PDCA cycle reminds managers (leaders) to focus on what is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the reasons it is so effective is that the brainstormers not only come up with new ideas in a session, but also spark off from associations with other people's ideas by developing and refining them." If an effective leader focuses on the task and appreciates the varied views of each team member, an effective brainstorming session can provide a team with the questions that need answering before and while they are working toward their common objective. The questions that are brought up in a brainstorming session all stem from what lies at the finish line. There are the obvious who, what, where, why questions, but as a good brainstorming session will show a team, there are many more questions necessary in order to properly plan for achieving a goal or completing a project. By clearly stating where the finish line is a good leader can help a team see the many paths to get there. Questions like, "Who does it involve and who will do what? What are we going to do? What will happen if we do not do it? When does it start and end? Where will it take place? How will it take place? Why must we do it?" are the best starting point to spark the ideas necessary to create the deeper questions that can help a team affectively plan their path to the finish line. Let us read further and discover more about scenarios. Definition of a Scenario A scenario is a view of possible alternatives of the world (events or situations) which are described in a form of a story (narrative) that might help managers make better executive or strategic decisions. A scenario is a process of visualizing what future conditions or events are probable, what their consequences or effects would be like, and how to respond to, or benefit from, them.
