Did you take Introduction to Anthropology, Psychology and Sociology and want to learn more?
Even if you didn't take the Grade 11 course, are you thinking of studying the Social Sciences in university?
Are you interested in learning about what causes cultures to change and adapt as time goes on,
or in how we can explain some of the trendsXwe see happening in our society?
These are some of the questions we examine in this Grade 12 course, Challenge and Change in Society.
From some of the early changes in prehistoric society
to discussions of current issues such as poverty and wealth, Xthe environment,
multiculturalism, Xand youth culture
Challenge and Change looks at the ways in which social scientists study and explain the origins and impacts of change on our society.
You will learn some of the fundamental theories of these three social sciences with relation to societal change, and then examine how those theories come into play in our everyday lives.
The online version of this course makes extensive use of electronic tools,
and electronic materials that illustrate these theories in history and popular culture, pulling together videos and informational, interactive sites
These form the bases for our class discussions, XBlogs,
Wikis, Xand other activities. Independent learning and collaborative activities are equally employed as part of the learning process.
As the year progresses, you will also pursue some of your own research related to one of these social sciences as part of the process of learning how social scientists operate.
