Los Angeles Union Station Research Paper
The Los Angeles Union Station Los Angeles Union Station began as a thought in the early1900's but it was not until 1933 that construction began
based upon the plans of Parkinson and Parkinson, a father and son team. With the collaborative efforts of many designers, such as Herman Sachs
and Warren Hoak, construction was completed in 1939. The only major structural changes made since then have been the massive semi dome on
the east side, and an office complex that was added in the 1990's. The elements used for a building must blend together or the design will not seem
unified and LAUS is an iconic and almost seamless cultural blend of old style Spanish Colonial Revival, which includes elements of Romanesque
Revival as well as Moorish Revival and Southwestern elements with the newest style of the period known as Art Deco Modern Streamline.
Constructed at the tail end of the glamour and opulence associated with the railway romanticist era, it has been credited by many as the last great train
station ever built, and it may also be the only one built during the height of the art deco era (Solomon 2015 p 34–35).... Show more content on

The Missionary Revival period's functional elements evolved into the more decorative and culturally diverse Spanish Colonial Revival Style that was
popular from the early 1900's into the 1940's. This period incorporates a more Mediterranean flavor and within the interior of Union Station many of
these Southwestern, Spanish and Moorish elements and motifs are carried

The Metro Angeles Department Of City Planning
In determining the development of the current location of the 31–year old Little Tokyo in downtown Los Angeles I had to rely on different sources, but
mainly the Sanborn maps and the Los Angeles Times helped me a lot. Though I must say that I used other sources like the Los Angeles Department of
City Planning's OHR's "How–to" Guide to conducting Historical Research, the Sanborn maps gave more the much–needed information on the historical
development of the site (Los Angeles Department of City Planning p1). Furthermore, by using the maps and other resources I gained a lot of
experience, especially the difficulties that I experienced in my search.

The galleria is loved by the Japanese and other Asian communities in Los Angeles.
The site has served as Los Angeles Asian community for over thirty years. However, the cultural center has served different historical periods. For
instance, during the Second World War, Los Angeles faced a labor shortage that made African Americans migrate from the south to seek employment.
The Little Tokyo has always gone through cultural changes. The Japanese have been into internment camps as many southerners settled in downtown
and the Little Tokyo was a vacant place that hosted them. After the spring of 1943, the place became overcrowded with Southern African
–American
population who eventually took over the control of Little Tokyo. By the end of the World War II, the Asian community had lost a lot of their land in
downtown area. As an oppressed minority, they have continually struggled to gain back their land and recovered it fully. X Lanes bowling alley or the
Little Tokyo as is called by some is such an essential monument to the Japanese–American culture that has survived in downtown.
While it was not difficult to locate the site using Los Angeles Times, using Sanborn maps was a huge challenge because of my lack of experience. I
had to do multiple searches to find some credible information. Furthermore, I had to key in some of the developments within the area so as to locate
the site. Adjusting my search by using names of

Urban Sprawl In Los Angeles Essay
Los Angeles is built on the vast and flat landscape; it was their opportunity to grow fast as a metropolitan. With this environment, the constant influx of
population was enough to generate a significant community even outside of downtown. The urban sprawl started on its endless horizontal ground.
However, soon they confronted the limit of the carrying capacity. L.A couldn't handle its urban sprawl; it needed a solution to keep growing.Los
Angeles couldn't deal with the increasing housing demand and lacking of public space. Compared to other metropolitan, such as New York, Los
Angeles showed the dramatic comparison in population density. "The urbanized area of Los Angeles was the densest in the country in 1990, more so
than even New YorkCity. The 2000 figure for the Los Angeles–Long Beach–Santa Ana Urbanized area is 7,068 people per square mile, compared to
5,309 for the New York, New jersey–Connecticut urbanized area."(Grey 90) In detail, 90 districts of L.A have more than 10,000 people per square
mile. Especially Koreatown has the biggest number which is "42,000 square per mile" (LA times Sewell 2016). After decades, when it confronted its
housing problem due to unaffordability, people finally realized there is no suburban area for them to move or build new housings in Los Angeles.
They reached their limit of growing. "Unnerving lesson in man's infinite capacity to mess up his environment."(Grey 238) The population kept larger,
the price of housing also increased. "Los

The Los Angeles Facility For Disaster Recovery
The theme of this paper is expanding the analysis of the problem statement through identification of the issues scope, scale, effect, and so forth,
considering various company organization structures. Additionally, the paper's content outlines the considerations of solving the problem to achieve
organization success. This overriding critical IT issue facing the Fox Television network and cable affiliates is disaster recovery. The result of a natural
disaster may halt network operations, which will result in a revenue shortfall for outage duration. The expansion of the problem statement is centered

Many may consider that the exploration of the television distribution systems is not related to traditional IT components. However, many elements of
the traditional television distribution facility are changing to using IT components, and the identification and analysis methods use a similar analysis
approach. This paper's content will concentrate on the issue of exploring how to move the network to an alternative distribution location.
Problem Statement
The Fox network transmits over satellite communication infrastructure, and terrestrial fiber networks 36 linear television–programing services from its
Los Angeles facility. Additionally, the facility provides about 100 Internet provided linear and non–linear television services. These services only
provide programming to the United States audience. Other global transmission facilities provide the programming services for the remaining global
countries of the world. The Los Angeles facility uses a highly integrated automation system to manage the expense of providing the services.
Computerized data, such as television material, is critical to the survival of the enterprise (Omar, Alijani, & Mason, 2011). The Fox organization
relies on computerized systems to provide daily operations (Omar, Alijani, & Mason, 2011). Fox has a strategy for providing an infrastructure for
recovering operations if fire, hurricanes or other natural disasters

Music And Culture Of Los Angeles
At the beginning of the twenty–first century, popular music and culture became significant influences on the lives of many individuals within the city
of Los Angeles. East Los Angeles ("East L.A." or "the Eastside"), in particular, was a center of flourishing musical, cultural, and social scenes with
strong connections to the changing Chicano/a identity. Under this environment in which the Chicano movement (moviemiento) continued to prevail, a
large number of socially aware and politically active, Latin–fusion "Chicano" bands were developed. One of such was the Ozomatli band, who strived
to express their activist viewpoints through popular music. The spatial context of the band's emergence, their links to past musical movements, and their
implementation of a wide array of musical styles and genres all define their impact on Chicano identity in Los Angeles. Through their music, the
Ozomatli band has showed much about the importance of the changing Chicano culture and served as the framework for cultural and social dynamics
of present–day Los Angeles. Ozomatli, which originated in Los Angeles, California, is a six–piece (six person), all male band that was formed in 1995.
The name "Ozomatli" is derived from the Nahuatl (Uto–Aztecan language) word for "the Aztec god of dance who is represented as a monkey figure in
the famous Aztec Sun Stone" ("The Battle of Los Angeles" 725). This band plays a variety and mixture of genres, from "classic to modern Latino,

Ethnic Makeup Of Los Angeles
Since 1965 many people have immigrated to the greater Los Angeles area than anywhere within the United States. These immigrants have rapidly and
profoundly transformed the city's ethnic makeup and spared heated debate over their impact on the region. Unfortunately within many areas of Los
Angeles there are those who have been pushed out of their homes, which have been passed through generations of ethnic minorities in other areas due
to gentrification. These gentrified areas have been renovated by the city to allow for a much more comfortable living experience. One specific way this
has happened is by allowing an ease of access to mainstream markets that provide "necessary" measures for their lifestyle. However those of this
community are not the only communities that wish to adhere to this lifestyle. Many Angelinos, although living within a community that is seen as
poor and unhealthy, actually care about the food that they put within their bodies. The resources that are readily available in the gentrified location in
Los Angeles, but not to other parts force them to eat from local markets and convenience stores close where the quality is unhealthy. Organic, non–gmo,
and foods that do not contain MSG are solely confined to stores within areas where people which money has moved to. These markets consist of
mainstream grocers, grocery stores where there is an availability of fresh foods, which can support a healthy diet on a regular basis. It is not an issue

Los Angeles And Chicago Angeles
Los Angeles and Chicago are two American cities that have a long history with gang violence. In the 1940's the city of Los Angeles was experiencing
a significant boom in the African American and Latino populations. During this time, there was also a massive influx of Caucasians into the Los
Angeles area. The Caucasians wanted to keep African Americans and Latinos who they called 'Zoot Suiters' out of their neighborhoods, so they formed
a white gang called the 'Spook Hunters'. The formation of the 'Spook Hunters' increased racial tensions in Los Angeles exponentially and caused a surge
in violence between the white gang members and ethnic minorities. During this time period the Ku Klux Klan had an active presence in the white
neighborhoods of Los Angeles which significantly increased racial tensions. In the 1950's and 1960's African American and Latino gangs expanded
and became more territorial and violent. To this date gang related violence remains a constant in the day to day lives of Los Angeles residents.
Chicago history of gangs begins in 1860's with Caucasians of different ethnic backgrounds. A pivotal moment in race relations in Chicago occurred
when Regan Colts, a white gang, drowned an African American boy in Lake Michigan on July 27th, 1919 (White 25). This incident led to the first
racial riots in Chicago where gang members openly attacked each other. Since that incident Chicago has experienced ongoing gang violence. In fact in

History Of The Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers are the best because they have had so many stars and hall famers that played for them. Throughout all the years the Los
Angeles Lakers have been around for about 69 years. The Lakers have made a name for themselves with the players they had and have as of right
now. When the Lakers first started out they were originally in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They were called the Lakers in honor of the state's
nickname, "The Land of 10,000 Lakes." In 1960, Bob Short moved the NBA franchise to Los Angeles. He did not change the name because there are
also lakes in California. During this time there was the best duo, Jerry West and Elgin Baylor, these two were lethal on the court. The 1968 time was a
new era for the Los Angeles Lakers because the duo now added a new member, Wilt Chamberlain, making it a trio for the Lakers. Another reason why
they are the best is because of their 33 game winning streak which remains longest winning streak in history. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Mara Salvatrucha From Los Angeles
The Mara Salvatrucha originating from Los Angeles, California is one of the world's most renown gangs. The gang was established in Los Angeles
in year 1980 by Salvadorian immigrants and war refugees. Salvadorians were migrating to the United States in hope and search for a better life,
economically and socially. They came to a rude awakening of racism and isolation within society. These immigrants coming to a different country felt
the need to group up and stick by each other helping one another knowing they were all on the same page. Eventually the immigrants feel to the easiest
way of life given their circumstances, and fell into the gang life. These Salvadorian Los Angeles residents formed what is now known as Mara
Salvatrucha also known as MS–13.
Mara Salvatrucha was created by Salvadorians that fled their country because of a civil war. Essentially they were immigrants and refugees, being
kids that grew up surrounded by violence. Due to these factors creating a gang was not something out of the norm for these kids, they were used to the
violence. MS–13 is now considered the fastest–growing, most violent and least understood of the nation 's street gangs in the United States of
America. (2005) The word mara stands for "posse" or "gang" and Salvatrucha refers to peasants that were trained to become guerrilla fighters in the
civil war. It is said that the 13 in MS–13 was adopted out of respect to the Mexican Mafia, representing the 13th letter in the alphabet "M". The

In a state so vast and diverse like California, you are going to encounter people with very eclectic music taste simply because Californians are
exposed to a diverse range of music. In a state that has homed the likes of pop, heavy metal, rock, ska, alternative, hip–hop, and gangster rap, it is very
easily for someone to feel at home in this state, or as Josh Kun puts it in "Los Angeles is Singing", "songs can orient us to where we are, ground us in
a sense of home..." (LAtitudes, 182). Kun goes onto state "They are locators, but they are also bridges, sparks, and launch pads... songs are handshakes

Economic Industry Of Los Angeles And Mexicans Workers
Economic Industry of Los Angeles and Mexicans Workers
To begin, In Latino Metropolis, Victor Valle and Rodolfo Torres suggest that the Latino population is a vital group to the political economy of Los
Angeles. The Los Angeles economy was constructed through the manual labor of largely Latino immigrants, which the city today still heavily depends
on (Valle and Torres, 2000, 15–16). In their chapter, Economic Geography of Latino Los Angeles, Valle and Torres argue that Latino immigrants
working in the labor workforce in the Southeast Los Angeles area (cities such Vernon, Maywood, Bell, etc.) are often discriminated and often depicted
by the media, anti–immigrant leaders, and sympathizers as victims and villains (Valle and Torres, 2000,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instances, in 1946 various Latinos and African Americans experienced tough conditions working in a steel company named Bethlehem Steel.
Both Latinos and African Americans were trapped in the dirtiest, most dangerous and lowest paying positions. For example, many were either
placed in the pits of the furnace, bolt shop, or wire mill. These jobs were lower paying and offered less or no incentive pay. Jobs located near the
furnace were very dirty, dangerous, and not desired by Anglo workers. So, there was a sort of work discrimination towards minority workers
(Donahoe, 2005, 90–91).
My father has worked in steel mill company in Vernon and can often relate to this type of discrimination. My father came to the US in the 1970s

Causes Of The Los Angeles Riots
The twentieth century brought with it many conflicts, such as both World Wars, the Great Depression, and civil unrest, the latter of which its effects
can still be seen today. The Civil Rights Movement of the sixties, paved the way for more demonstrations during the last quarter of the twentieth
century. One of the greatest of these demonstrations was the Los Angeles Riots (commonly known as the Rodney King Riots) of nineteen ninety two.
The Civil Rights Movement had a goal, which was to end segregation and discrimination of African Americans, and to try to improve the wellbeing by
integrating both communities. This movement had led to many others, both peaceful and violent. However, the goal between them all was the same.
There has been many conflicts in the past between African Americans and the Anglo community, where most were caused due to the discrimination or
taking out the anger they had after seeing themselves being treated a certain way.
Before the riots, racial tensions had already risen. There was lots of gang–related activity and crime in the poor communities of Los Angeles, where
many were unemployed. These communities were common to drug sweeps, where "more than eighty officers tore apart a pair of apartment buildings,
leaving dozens homeless" (History.com).

Los Angeles Riots Essay
The history of African–Americans in the United States is full of many periods of achievements, as well as periods of struggle. The Los Angeles riots
of 1992 were the result of many years of systematic racism in the United States following the Civil Rights Movement. The beating and unjust trial of
Rodney King exposed the unfair and brutal treatment of African Americans by the police. As well as the shooting of 15 year–old Latasha Harlins 2
weeks after the beating of Rodney King to further ignite hatred within African–Americans in Los Angeles. What came forth was a week long riot not
only changed Los Angeles, but the United States. That is why the Los Angeles riots was the most devastating, yet consequential, civil uproar in the
history of the United States.
The beginnings of the riots came on March 3, 1991, when Rodney King was stopped and brutally assaulted by police. King was stopped after a
high speed chase police after police caught him intoxicated and was subsequently forced out of the car (History.com). From there, police began to
unlawfully assault Rodney King, leaving him with a fractured skull, along with a broken cheekbone (History.com). A witness, George Holliday,
filmed the officers beating Rodney King; a day after the tape was airing on CNN for the rest of the country to witness (Los Angeles Daily News).
Four officers were later arrested and put to trial a year later, however all of them were not pleaded guilty. The verdict angered a massive amount of

Los Angeles Riots Sociology
The Los Angeles riots in 1992 did not stem from the beating of Rodney King but stemmed from a much larger problem. Individuals were frustrated
with being placed in a social hierarchy based on the color of their skin. The beating of Rodney King was the "cherry on top" for the bottled up
frustration people felt. In the United States, there is a social hierarchy, and the judicial system works differently depending on where the individual is
placed within the hierarchy. The riots were a non–constructive way to fight for equal rights within the judicial system, but many individuals were fed
up with society telling them where they should be placed. A social hierarchy has existed since the beginning of time. The inner workings of the

Suppressing negative emotions can cause mental health concerns, but individuals with low social power and low social status may use these
strategies to avoid conflict (Langner, "Social Hierarchy And Depression: The Role Of Emotion Suppression"). The social hierarchy affects mental
health in part through a process of emotion suppression. It also does not help that some scholars suggest that the more individuals aim at climbing
the social hierarchy, the more society's hierarchy gets strong (Bardoscia, "The Social Climbing Game"). Pepi Leistyna states in her "Social Class
and Entertainment television" article that there are harsh realities that the poor and working class of color face, but television and other media
outlets show that the middle class is open to everyone (Leistyna 3). The middle class has not been open to everyone, and the social hierarchy that
has been the unwritten law of where an individual is placed in society can explain this. The hierarchy is not only destructive for individuals of color,
but even European females and European families who have not came from money. It is a frustrating reality that seems never to be changing and only
getting worse. The country is dividing into the two extremes. There is the rich who are getting richer and the poor who are getting poorer. The
majority of individuals who are getting poorer are

It does appear the "big city," dreams juncture is over and players in today's game are less willing to embrace the pressure from the media that comes
along with playing in New York or Los Angeles. The reason many people (including me), don't look at this off

Lakers Vs. Los Angeles Clippers
In L.A there is a battle, a battle of who is the best basketball team in the city. The Los Angeles Lakers or the Los Angeles Clippers. This whole rivalry
started in 1984 when the Clippers moved to L.A. The Clippers originally played their games in the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, while the
Lakers were winning championships in the Forum. In their first matchup the Lakers won 108–103, and with that a "crosstown rivalry was born" the
Associated Press wrote. While the Clippers were rebuilding, the Lakers had put together a super–team dubbed "Showtime." With Magic Johnson
running the whole thing and 38 year old Kareem Abdul–Jabbar in the post, and with that duo the Lakers won the championship in the 84–85 season. By
1986, the Lakers were still undefeated against the Clippers. Magic Johnson also won his first MVP award. In 1987, the Lakers won the The Finals
again, winning their 4 title in franchise history, and their second since the Clippers moved to L.A. In the 1987–88 NBA season the Lakers won another
Finals against the Detroit Pistons a.k.a the Bad Boys, going back to back. In 1992, the Clippers had their first winning season since 1978–79 and their
first playoff appearance since 1976. The Lakers, on the other hand, struggled with Magic Johnson's retirement after he tested positive for AIDS. The
Clippers ended a 27 game losing streak in the Forum, and finished with a better record than the Lakers that season.... Show more content on

Los Angeles Riots Dehumanization
The Los Angeles Riots developed as a way to show frustration at the injustice that occurred at the expense of Rodney King, with the acquittal of the
four white police officers. The escalation that occurred as a result, could have been prevented, had police chief Darryl Gates mobilized troops into the
affected areas immediately, instead of prolonging the deployment. As a member of law enforcement, with over 42 years of experience, there is no way
that he could not have anticipated the backlash that ensued. The complete brutalization and dehumanization of black people in the United States is
appalling and it has led to inhumane, atrocious fall out that has had impacts that have carried forward to the present. With such explicit media exposure

Chicano Gangs And The Los Angeles
Chicano gangs have been a prominent part of the Los Angeles community since the early 1900s. These Chicano gangs consisted of young
Mexican–Americans, another name used for Chicanos, which were formed as a way for some youth to identify with something. The behavior of gang
members was a way of adapting to the social and economic living situation that was upon them. There was a large migration of Chicano immigrants to
the Los Angeles area that resulted in several changes directly related to the larger and present Chicano presence. The most notable being the prominent
presence of Chicano specific gangs. This is likely due to the fact that many people of Chicano descent are immigrants who came to America with little
to nothing. This resulted in large groups of Chicanos being located in some of the poorest areas. Such areas became known as "barrios", a Spanish term
for neighborhood that became specifically in reference to the poor neighborhoods with a high Latino population. The people living in them were often
working the lowest paid and hardest jobs needed by those of a higher class in society. It is commonly found that when poverty is heavy throughout a
community, many youth will feel the need to act out in some way, and band together in their mutual discontent with their surrounding environment and
society. In addition, many youth were also dealing with trying to identify themselves as something and weren't sure if to identify themselves as latino,
chicano, or something

Gang Violence In Los Angeles
With the leading number of gangs in the country, Los Angeles is thought of as the gang capital of the world. Employing gang suppression strategies
that take distinct forms, from anti–gang injunctions to high rate of incarcerations, the City of Angels has failed to live up to its angelic name. Known
instead for its demonic gang activity and police suppression efforts, Los Angeles has taken over media headlines as one of the most dangerous places to
subsist. Representing a worrisome issue for residents, visitors, city government officials, as well as urban planners, gang violence has rapidly become a
threat to public safety. Although current–day gang culture has eased off on the violence, it continues to be one of the greatest planning challenges

Los Angeles Riots
L.A. Riots The Los Angeles Riots goes down in history as one of the most famous and destructive riots in US history. The L.A. Riots started as an
outcry to the acquittal of the four police officers who senselessly beat Rodney King which was caught on camera. To understand the core issues of the
L.A. Riots, we have to go back to what started it all, the injustice of Rodney King. Rodney King, an African–American man who already had a run in
with the law, lead police on a high–speed car chase in Los Angeles on March 3rd, 1991. Following the end of the chase, King was violently beaten by
four police officers before being taken into custody. What made the story of Rodney King big was the very famous video of the beating that circulated

Riots. The crown really represents the media choosing a "winner" or "worst loser" from the L.A. riot and drawing attention specially towards them.
Whether it was the unfortunate loss of Korean–American business or the never–ending tension between blacks and white, the media forgot the main
issue; injustice. It brought about the issue of bias, stereotypical and yellow journalism. Even in today's media, the coverage of riot outweighs the
problem behind it. Instead of focusing on the root problem at hand, or showcasing how a majority of people have peacefully gone about protesting, the
media instead focuses on what they believe will sell. Thus, convoluting the truth to satisfy the prejudice opinion of readers and

Case Analysis: The Los Angeles River
By using Kinney's definitions of "subterranean stream," the Court determined that the groundwater was a part of the Los Angeles River but
employed vague terms that could be interpreted in varying ways that did not reflect the hydrological realities of the region (Sax 2003, 278). Again, if
the water below the valley was legally defined as groundwater, it would be subject to absolute ownership law and Los Angeles would only be secure in
the rights to the Los Angeles River (Sax 2003, 280). So, the Court asserted that geographically speaking, the Los Angeles River's headwaters began in
the mountains surrounding the San Fernando Valley; that all water that percolated into the alluvium traveled by gravity flow into the valley; and

This means that groundwater was being pumped without any state oversight or regulations (Hundley 2001, 529). By 1913, the California
Conservation Commission issued a report that found that the regulatory system in the state was inadequate in its ability to resolve the huge number
of water disputes that were occurring and would be unable to protect its water resources into the future (Brown 2015, 54). In response, California
passed legislation known as the Water Commission Act (WCA) of 1913 (Brown 2015, 55). The legislation created the State Water Commission
(now the State Water Resources Control Board), which now had the power to regulate unappropriated waters in California (Lassiter 2015, 61). Now,
if people wished to gain access to water, they would have to apply for a permit with the Commission (Lassiter 2015, 61); however, the WCA
precluded any permitting system for groundwater that was not directly connected to surface water (Brown 2015, 55). As a result, there was a stark
separation between how groundwater was managed versus how surface water was managed (Sax 2003, 289). Effectively, the state still did not have
any meaningful way to track the use of groundwater, and the courts remained the primary way to handle disputes about ownership (Brown 2015,

The (9–34) Los Angeles Lakers face the (17–23) Sacramento Kings at the Staples Center in the third game of their four game season series. The
Lakers wasted a fast start (shot 74–percent from the field in the first quarter) and surprisingly competitive first half before the Rockets turned up the

The Rockets sixth straight win against the Lakers sending the purple and gold into a three–game losing skid. However, the game provided some
positives in addition to the accompanying and omnipresent negatives.

a 38–point third quarter, outscored the Kings 29–16 in the fourth and led by one point after a tough D'Angelo Russell layup nearly completing the
franchises third–biggest comeback, based on halftime deficit before falling 118–115.

The Growth Of Early Los Angeles
To tell the story of the growth of early Los Angeles it is necessary to visit the culturally significant union station in old downtown on Alameda street.
The buildings owes it begging to the American phenomenon of the railroad, the institution that allowed for American expansion into the modern era
and more specifically the growth of the west coast metropolis of Los Angeles that prior was just a small Spanish town. Just across the street from the
Avila adobe, one of the first and oldest existing Spanish settlements in L.A., lays Union station, a building that holds on to the city's Spanish roots
through Spanish mission style architecture. At the time of its erection, the building not only told the story of the small Spanish town that Los Angeles
was but also hinted at the industrial metropolis that Los Angeles would be through the art deco language. Through the fine usage and mixture of
elements at a macro and micro scale, Union Station successfully mixes the two languages of Art Deco modern and Spanish mission style to form a
landmark that is a remnant of a significant transitional period in LA's history. Just like many other U.S cities during the early 20th century los angles
experienced a period of unprecedented industrial growth and population increase that followed. Furthermore there was the need for a transportation hub
that would serve as a common stop for vital transcontinental rail lines that supported the city's industry, which included the Union Pacific

The Los Angeles Intervention Approach
The Los Angeles intervention approach produces positive and negative attributes to combating gang related criminality. Gangs in society today, are
problematic in many aspects. There are many different avenues city officials can take to combat or reduce gang related crime. Various methodologies
have been used to take on this problem and have had successful results (Spergel,1986). "The general idea is that if gang members will not respond to
ordinary social agency programs, then the programs must move out to the streets in order to achieve change (Klein,1965, p3. 183)." Law enforcement
takes on a tremendous role in reducing crime and ensuring public safety. Gang related crime is a prominent adversary for not only local
communities, but our brave men and women. obviously they are having a tough time reducing gang's jurisdiction as seen in Chicago and other large
cities. One of the many problems they face is going into the gang's battlefields where bullets are being fired and yet protect themselves also. As one
of the interviewees in Scotts article said, it would take the police at least an hour to come to his neighborhood when firearms are being fired (Scott,
2004, p.119). Theoretically, it is impossible for law enforcement to stop individuals from committing gang–related crime if they are not nearby to see
what is taking place. Intervention of gang violence can not be law enforcement alone. The Los Angeles city–sanctioned gang intervention workers
initially produces

The Los Angeles Riots Of 1992
The Los Angeles riots of 1992, the worst civil disturbance in America, brought to light the deepening racial and class divisions that were growing in the
U.S. The division of between the rich and the poor, the immigrants and natives, and majority and minority produced an atmosphere of fear, distrust, and
hopelessness. Due to the struggle to gain power by racial and ethnic groups, the aftermath of the Los Angeles riots was clouded with racial and ethnical
conflicts. However, the riots did increase racial awareness for Korean Americans between the different ethnicities. Dialogue was opened between
people, whom prior to the riot, did not interact with each other. Even so, African American, Latino, White, and Asian American victims shared their
anger and resentment towards the government for not providing adequate compensation and aid for their losses.
For Korean Americans and immigrants, the Los Angeles riots of 1992 dramatically altered their course of life in America. They suffered the heaviest
losses as a result of the riots with over 2,000 Korean American–owned stores being looted, burned, or damaged; this amounted to a gigantic sum of
around $400 million in losses. The riots of 1992 has a deepening economic, psychological, and ideological impact on Korean Americans that was
referred to as a "turning point" in their long 100 year history of immigration to the United States. According to a survey that was conducted 11 months
after the riots, nearly 40% of

Street Gangs of Los Angeles Essay
Once we finished watching the documentary street gangs of Los Angeles two theories were most prevalent in my mind for why there was gang
formation in that area. The first being Travis herschi's "social bonds". Second being Walter miller's "focal concerns". Social bond theory is not a
crime causation theory but a pro social behavior theory that helps explain deviance. This theory identified four social bonds that promote adherence to
society's laws and values. The four bonds being: attachment, commitment, involvement, and belief. If there was any weakness in any of these four
areas would be an explain for the cause of delinquency. Focal concerns theory is different than many other theories because it is not the rejection of

As seen in the video the one mother saw that the gangs were trying to pressure her son into a gang through school and his friends so she moved but
the same thing happened once they moved to another school there was no avoiding it. So the kid's peers have a very high influence on the
individual. If the friends are already engaging in delinquent activity then it would be somewhat natural thing for the individual to mimic the same
things. The second part of the theory is commitment. The theory explains that participating in activities the promote adherence to societies moral
and ethical code of conduct will keep them from participating in delinquent behavior. Most of the kids are not engaging in after school activities or
other activities that would promote behavior that is looked up to in society. The next part of the theory is involvement or preoccupation. Herschi
related this mainly to school and doing homework to keep the kids occupied so they won't get caught up in delinquent behavior. But many of these
kids aren't going to school on a regular basis or they gave up on the schooling system so they are not being preoccupied with anything that is
beneficial to achieving prosocial bonds. The final part of this theory is belief in the laws and moral code. As the one man said "people in gangs don't
care as long as they're making money." By that statement alone you can assume that they will

Los Angeles Soccer History
Soccer in Los Angeles has been around since the beginning of the 19th century and in 1902, the Southern California Football League was founded.
The Southern California League, which was later renamed the Greater Los Angeles Soccer League, was founded in 1903 and would be the big thing
of soccer for many decades (Litterer). Los Angeles fell behind San Francisco in the development of soccer, and both regions were held back by their
isolation from the rest of the country. The California State Football Association had also been founded in 1902, and then college soccer came west in
the 1920s, but both were beaten by San Francisco for a number of years. UCLA's soccer team began play in 1937 and the Los Angeles Scots became

Pollution In Los Angeles
Pollution and trash build up in Los Angeles has been accumulating and worsening for many years. The homeless population in Los Angeles also has
been at an all time high. In areas like Van Nuys, Reseda, Downtown, and many more, there needs to be more trash cans near homeless encampments
and along with those, cameras, which will document and hopefully successfully pinpoint potential littering suspects. The trash is not only harmful and
damaging to our community but also Earth as a whole. By setting up more trash cans of which the city would be in charge of, it would hopefully
encourage those who do frequently litter to throw away their waste properly. Besides putting up cameras and implementing more trash cans we can
also set up a plan to benefit both our homeless citizens and the environment of our cities. The homeless give service to their city by keeping it clean
and in return they gain food and shelter. The process works by setting up trash cans in locations where homeless tend to shelter themselves such as
around freeways, the sidewalks, and within other public places. The homeless can take the trash they find and pick up whatever other trash they see to
clean up. When the trash bags reach a certain weight, they can then take that garbage to homeless shelter. In return, the homeless shelter allows these
homeless a night or two in the shelter. The main organizations, companies, and people we have contacted for our idea include Clean–Up Los Angeles

Crippin in Los Angeles Essay
African American gangs in Los Angeles originated mostly from the migration of African Americans from the South after World War II. In the
1920's most of the gangs in Los Angeles were family oriented and it was not until the late 1940's that the first gangs began. The gangs surfaced out
the area known as the East Side, which is the area east of Main Street to Alameda. A lot of the gangs surfaced because of the racism perpetrated by
the whites. There was clear segregation and racism against blacks, they were not allowed in certain areas of Los Angeles and could not buy property
there. White gangs got together to stop African Americans from trying to integrate themselves into the Los Angeles society. In turn, ... Show more

The black political organizations in Los Angeles became stronger and stronger as the civil rights movement enthralled the nation.
The strength and political power of the African Americans was seen as a threat to local and national security. The national government became
concerned and formed counterintelligence groups to combat the growing African American political influence. The government used
counterintelligence tactics to eradicate and destroy African American organizations, with the Black Panther Party as its main target. These tactics,
called COINTELPRO, were previously used against the Socialist Workers Party (SWP), and the Communist Party (CPUSA) during the 1950s and
1940s. Clearly, it was an all out war between the government and African American leaders. The government was successful in stopping the movement
in Los Angeles.
African American youths in Los Angeles saw their role models shut down and their ideals shattered by the government. The lack of leadership and
unity in the community led to the resurgence of gang violence. In 1969, Raymond Washington created a gang called the Baby Avenues, modeling itself
to one of the early gangs of the sixties called the Avenues. They were also called the Avenue Cribs because of their youthfulness, and later just the
Cribs. A student at Freemont High School,

Los Angeles Union Station Research Paper

  • 1. Los Angeles Union Station Research Paper The Los Angeles Union Station Los Angeles Union Station began as a thought in the early1900's but it was not until 1933 that construction began based upon the plans of Parkinson and Parkinson, a father and son team. With the collaborative efforts of many designers, such as Herman Sachs and Warren Hoak, construction was completed in 1939. The only major structural changes made since then have been the massive semi dome on the east side, and an office complex that was added in the 1990's. The elements used for a building must blend together or the design will not seem unified and LAUS is an iconic and almost seamless cultural blend of old style Spanish Colonial Revival, which includes elements of Romanesque Revival as well as Moorish Revival and Southwestern elements with the newest style of the period known as Art Deco Modern Streamline. Constructed at the tail end of the glamour and opulence associated with the railway romanticist era, it has been credited by many as the last great train station ever built, and it may also be the only one built during the height of the art deco era (Solomon 2015 p 34–35).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Missionary Revival period's functional elements evolved into the more decorative and culturally diverse Spanish Colonial Revival Style that was popular from the early 1900's into the 1940's. This period incorporates a more Mediterranean flavor and within the interior of Union Station many of these Southwestern, Spanish and Moorish elements and motifs are carried ... • 2. The Metro Angeles Department Of City Planning In determining the development of the current location of the 31–year old Little Tokyo in downtown Los Angeles I had to rely on different sources, but mainly the Sanborn maps and the Los Angeles Times helped me a lot. Though I must say that I used other sources like the Los Angeles Department of City Planning's OHR's "How–to" Guide to conducting Historical Research, the Sanborn maps gave more the much–needed information on the historical development of the site (Los Angeles Department of City Planning p1). Furthermore, by using the maps and other resources I gained a lot of experience, especially the difficulties that I experienced in my search. I visited the site, the X Lanes Little Tokyo as one of the first essential steps in getting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The galleria is loved by the Japanese and other Asian communities in Los Angeles. The site has served as Los Angeles Asian community for over thirty years. However, the cultural center has served different historical periods. For instance, during the Second World War, Los Angeles faced a labor shortage that made African Americans migrate from the south to seek employment. The Little Tokyo has always gone through cultural changes. The Japanese have been into internment camps as many southerners settled in downtown and the Little Tokyo was a vacant place that hosted them. After the spring of 1943, the place became overcrowded with Southern African –American population who eventually took over the control of Little Tokyo. By the end of the World War II, the Asian community had lost a lot of their land in downtown area. As an oppressed minority, they have continually struggled to gain back their land and recovered it fully. X Lanes bowling alley or the Little Tokyo as is called by some is such an essential monument to the Japanese–American culture that has survived in downtown. While it was not difficult to locate the site using Los Angeles Times, using Sanborn maps was a huge challenge because of my lack of experience. I had to do multiple searches to find some credible information. Furthermore, I had to key in some of the developments within the area so as to locate the site. • 3. Urban Sprawl In Los Angeles Essay Los Angeles is built on the vast and flat landscape; it was their opportunity to grow fast as a metropolitan. With this environment, the constant influx of population was enough to generate a significant community even outside of downtown. The urban sprawl started on its endless horizontal ground. However, soon they confronted the limit of the carrying capacity. L.A couldn't handle its urban sprawl; it needed a solution to keep growing.Los Angeles couldn't deal with the increasing housing demand and lacking of public space. Compared to other metropolitan, such as New York, Los Angeles showed the dramatic comparison in population density. "The urbanized area of Los Angeles was the densest in the country in 1990, more so than even New YorkCity. The 2000 figure for the Los Angeles–Long Beach–Santa Ana Urbanized area is 7,068 people per square mile, compared to 5,309 for the New York, New jersey–Connecticut urbanized area."(Grey 90) In detail, 90 districts of L.A have more than 10,000 people per square mile. Especially Koreatown has the biggest number which is "42,000 square per mile" (LA times Sewell 2016). After decades, when it confronted its housing problem due to unaffordability, people finally realized there is no suburban area for them to move or build new housings in Los Angeles. They reached their limit of growing. "Unnerving lesson in man's infinite capacity to mess up his environment."(Grey 238) The population kept larger, the price of housing also increased. "Los ... The Los Angeles Facility For Disaster Recovery The theme of this paper is expanding the analysis of the problem statement through identification of the issues scope, scale, effect, and so forth, considering various company organization structures. Additionally, the paper's content outlines the considerations of solving the problem to achieve organization success. This overriding critical IT issue facing the Fox Television network and cable affiliates is disaster recovery. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many may consider that the exploration of the television distribution systems is not related to traditional IT components. However, many elements of the traditional television distribution facility are changing to using IT components, and the identification and analysis methods use a similar analysis approach. This paper's content will concentrate on the issue of exploring how to move the network to an alternative distribution location. Problem Statement The Fox network transmits over satellite communication infrastructure, and terrestrial fiber networks 36 linear television–programing services from its Los Angeles facility. Additionally, the facility provides about 100 Internet provided linear and non–linear television services. These services only provide programming to the United States audience. Other global transmission facilities provide the programming services for the remaining global countries of the world. The Los Angeles facility uses a highly integrated automation system to manage the expense of providing the services. Computerized data, such as television material, is critical to the survival of the enterprise (Omar, Alijani, & Mason, 2011). The Fox organization relies on computerized systems to provide daily operations (Omar, Alijani, & Mason, 2011). • 5. Music And Culture Of Los Angeles At the beginning of the twenty–first century, popular music and culture became significant influences on the lives of many individuals within the city of Los Angeles. East Los Angeles ("East L.A." or "the Eastside"), in particular, was a center of flourishing musical, cultural, and social scenes with strong connections to the changing Chicano/a identity. Under this environment in which the Chicano movement (moviemiento) continued to prevail, a large number of socially aware and politically active, Latin–fusion "Chicano" bands were developed. One of such was the Ozomatli band, who strived to express their activist viewpoints through popular music. The spatial context of the band's emergence, their links to past musical movements, and their implementation of a wide array of musical styles and genres all define their impact on Chicano identity in Los Angeles. Through their music, the Ozomatli band has showed much about the importance of the changing Chicano culture and served as the framework for cultural and social dynamics of present–day Los Angeles. Ozomatli, which originated in Los Angeles, California, is a six–piece (six person), all male band that was formed in 1995. The name "Ozomatli" is derived from the Nahuatl (Uto–Aztecan language) word for "the Aztec god of dance who is represented as a monkey figure in the famous Aztec Sun Stone" ("The Battle of Los Angeles" 725). This band plays a variety and mixture of genres, from "classic to modern Latino, urban, hip–hop and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Ethnic Makeup Of Los Angeles Since 1965 many people have immigrated to the greater Los Angeles area than anywhere within the United States. These immigrants have rapidly and profoundly transformed the city's ethnic makeup and spared heated debate over their impact on the region. Unfortunately within many areas of Los Angeles there are those who have been pushed out of their homes, which have been passed through generations of ethnic minorities in other areas due to gentrification. These gentrified areas have been renovated by the city to allow for a much more comfortable living experience. One specific way this has happened is by allowing an ease of access to mainstream markets that provide "necessary" measures for their lifestyle. However those of this community are not the only communities that wish to adhere to this lifestyle. Many Angelinos, although living within a community that is seen as poor and unhealthy, actually care about the food that they put within their bodies. The resources that are readily available in the gentrified location in Los Angeles, but not to other parts force them to eat from local markets and convenience stores close where the quality is unhealthy. Organic, non–gmo, and foods that do not contain MSG are solely confined to stores within areas where people which money has moved to. These markets consist of mainstream grocers, grocery stores where there is an availability of fresh foods, which can support a healthy diet on a regular basis. It is not an issue they have ... • 9. Los Angeles And Chicago Angeles Los Angeles and Chicago are two American cities that have a long history with gang violence. In the 1940's the city of Los Angeles was experiencing a significant boom in the African American and Latino populations. During this time, there was also a massive influx of Caucasians into the Los Angeles area. The Caucasians wanted to keep African Americans and Latinos who they called 'Zoot Suiters' out of their neighborhoods, so they formed a white gang called the 'Spook Hunters'. The formation of the 'Spook Hunters' increased racial tensions in Los Angeles exponentially and caused a surge in violence between the white gang members and ethnic minorities. During this time period the Ku Klux Klan had an active presence in the white neighborhoods of Los Angeles which significantly increased racial tensions. In the 1950's and 1960's African American and Latino gangs expanded and became more territorial and violent. To this date gang related violence remains a constant in the day to day lives of Los Angeles residents. Chicago history of gangs begins in 1860's with Caucasians of different ethnic backgrounds. A pivotal moment in race relations in Chicago occurred when Regan Colts, a white gang, drowned an African American boy in Lake Michigan on July 27th, 1919 (White 25). This incident led to the first racial riots in Chicago where gang members openly attacked each other. Since that incident Chicago has experienced ongoing gang violence. Throughout all the years the Los Angeles Lakers have been around for about 69 years. The Lakers have made a name for themselves with the players they had and have as of right now. When the Lakers first started out they were originally in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They were called the Lakers in honor of the state's nickname, "The Land of 10,000 Lakes." In 1960, Bob Short moved the NBA franchise to Los Angeles. He did not change the name because there are also lakes in California. During this time there was the best duo, Jerry West and Elgin Baylor, these two were lethal on the court. The 1968 time was a new era for the Los Angeles Lakers because the duo now added a new member, Wilt Chamberlain, making it a trio for the Lakers. • 14. The Mara Salvatrucha From Los Angeles The Mara Salvatrucha originating from Los Angeles, California is one of the world's most renown gangs. The gang was established in Los Angeles in year 1980 by Salvadorian immigrants and war refugees. Salvadorians were migrating to the United States in hope and search for a better life, economically and socially. They came to a rude awakening of racism and isolation within society. These immigrants coming to a different country felt the need to group up and stick by each other helping one another knowing they were all on the same page. Eventually the immigrants feel to the easiest way of life given their circumstances, and fell into the gang life. These Salvadorian Los Angeles residents formed what is now known as Mara Salvatrucha also known as MS–13. Mara Salvatrucha was created by Salvadorians that fled their country because of a civil war. Essentially they were immigrants and refugees, being kids that grew up surrounded by violence. Due to these factors creating a gang was not something out of the norm for these kids, they were used to the violence. MS–13 is now considered the fastest–growing, most violent and least understood of the nation 's street gangs in the United States of America. (2005) The word mara stands for "posse" or "gang" and Salvatrucha refers to peasants that were trained to become guerrilla fighters in the civil war. The Los Angeles economy was constructed through the manual labor of largely Latino immigrants, which the city today still heavily depends on (Valle and Torres, 2000, 15–16). In their chapter, Economic Geography of Latino Los Angeles, Valle and Torres argue that Latino immigrants working in the labor workforce in the Southeast Los Angeles area (cities such Vernon, Maywood, Bell, etc.) are often discriminated and often depicted by the media, anti–immigrant leaders, and sympathizers as victims and villains (Valle and Torres, 2000,... These jobs were lower paying and offered less or no incentive pay. Jobs located near the furnace were very dirty, dangerous, and not desired by Anglo workers. • 17. Causes Of The Los Angeles Riots The twentieth century brought with it many conflicts, such as both World Wars, the Great Depression, and civil unrest, the latter of which its effects can still be seen today. The Civil Rights Movement of the sixties, paved the way for more demonstrations during the last quarter of the twentieth century. One of the greatest of these demonstrations was the Los Angeles Riots (commonly known as the Rodney King Riots) of nineteen ninety two. The Civil Rights Movement had a goal, which was to end segregation and discrimination of African Americans, and to try to improve the wellbeing by integrating both communities. This movement had led to many others, both peaceful and violent. However, the goal between them all was the same. There has been many conflicts in the past between African Americans and the Anglo community, where most were caused due to the discrimination or taking out the anger they had after seeing themselves being treated a certain way. Before the riots, racial tensions had already risen. There was lots of gang–related activity and crime in the poor communities of Los Angeles, where many were unemployed. These communities were common to drug sweeps, where "more than eighty officers tore apart a pair of apartment buildings, leaving dozens homeless" (History.com). The Los Angeles riots of 1992 were the result of many years of systematic racism in the United States following the Civil Rights Movement. The beating and unjust trial of Rodney King exposed the unfair and brutal treatment of African Americans by the police. As well as the shooting of 15 year–old Latasha Harlins 2 weeks after the beating of Rodney King to further ignite hatred within African–Americans in Los Angeles. • 22. Los Angeles Riots Sociology The Los Angeles riots in 1992 did not stem from the beating of Rodney King but stemmed from a much larger problem. Individuals were frustrated with being placed in a social hierarchy based on the color of their skin. The beating of Rodney King was the "cherry on top" for the bottled up frustration people felt. In the United States, there is a social hierarchy, and the judicial system works differently depending on where the individual is placed within the hierarchy. The riots were a non–constructive way to fight for equal rights within the judicial system, but many individuals were fed up with society telling them where they should be placed. • 26. Chicano Gangs And The Los Angeles Chicano gangs have been a prominent part of the Los Angeles community since the early 1900s. These Chicano gangs consisted of young Mexican–Americans, another name used for Chicanos, which were formed as a way for some youth to identify with something. The behavior of gang members was a way of adapting to the social and economic living situation that was upon them. There was a large migration of Chicano immigrants to the Los Angeles area that resulted in several changes directly related to the larger and present Chicano presence. The most notable being the prominent presence of Chicano specific gangs. This is likely due to the fact that many people of Chicano descent are immigrants who came to America with little to nothing. This resulted in large groups of Chicanos being located in some of the poorest areas. Such areas became known as "barrios", a Spanish term for neighborhood that became specifically in reference to the poor neighborhoods with a high Latino population. The people living in them were often working the lowest paid and hardest jobs needed by those of a higher class in society. It is commonly found that when poverty is heavy throughout a community, many youth will feel the need to act out in some way, and band together in their mutual discontent with their surrounding environment and society. Again, if the water below the valley was legally defined as groundwater, it would be subject to absolute ownership law and Los Angeles would only be secure in the rights to the Los Angeles River (Sax 2003, 280). By 1913, the California Conservation Commission issued a report that found that the regulatory system in the state was inadequate in its ability to resolve the huge number of water disputes that were occurring and would be unable to protect its water resources into the future (Brown 2015, 54). In response, California passed legislation known as the Water Commission Act (WCA) of 1913 (Brown 2015, 55). The legislation created the State Water Commission (now the State Water Resources Control Board), which now had the power to regulate unappropriated waters in California (Lassiter 2015, 61). Now, if people wished to gain access to water, they would have to apply for a permit with the Commission (Lassiter 2015, 61); however, the WCA precluded any permitting system for groundwater that was not directly connected to surface water (Brown 2015, 55). As a result, there was a stark separation between how groundwater was managed versus how surface water was managed (Sax 2003, 289). The buildings owes it begging to the American phenomenon of the railroad, the institution that allowed for American expansion into the modern era and more specifically the growth of the west coast metropolis of Los Angeles that prior was just a small Spanish town. Just across the street from the Avila adobe, one of the first and oldest existing Spanish settlements in L.A., lays Union station, a building that holds on to the city's Spanish roots through Spanish mission style architecture. • 33. The Los Angeles Intervention Approach The Los Angeles intervention approach produces positive and negative attributes to combating gang related criminality. Gangs in society today, are problematic in many aspects. There are many different avenues city officials can take to combat or reduce gang related crime. Various methodologies have been used to take on this problem and have had successful results (Spergel,1986). "The general idea is that if gang members will not respond to ordinary social agency programs, then the programs must move out to the streets in order to achieve change (Klein,1965, p3. 183)." Law enforcement takes on a tremendous role in reducing crime and ensuring public safety. Gang related crime is a prominent adversary for not only local communities, but our brave men and women. obviously they are having a tough time reducing gang's jurisdiction as seen in Chicago and other large cities. One of the many problems they face is going into the gang's battlefields where bullets are being fired and yet protect themselves also. As one of the interviewees in Scotts article said, it would take the police at least an hour to come to his neighborhood when firearms are being fired (Scott, 2004, p.119). Due to the struggle to gain power by racial and ethnic groups, the aftermath of the Los Angeles riots was clouded with racial and ethnical conflicts. However, the riots did increase racial awareness for Korean Americans between the different ethnicities. Dialogue was opened between people, whom prior to the riot, did not interact with each other. For Korean Americans and immigrants, the Los Angeles riots of 1992 dramatically altered their course of life in America. They suffered the heaviest losses as a result of the riots with over 2,000 Korean American–owned stores being looted, burned, or damaged; this amounted to a gigantic sum of around $400 million in losses. The riots of 1992 has a deepening economic, psychological, and ideological impact on Korean Americans that was referred to as a "turning point" in their long 100 year history of immigration to the United States. According to a survey that was conducted 11 months after the riots, nearly 40% of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Street Gangs of Los Angeles Essay Once we finished watching the documentary street gangs of Los Angeles two theories were most prevalent in my mind for why there was gang formation in that area. The first being Travis herschi's "social bonds". Second being Walter miller's "focal concerns". Social bond theory is not a crime causation theory but a pro social behavior theory that helps explain deviance. This theory identified four social bonds that promote adherence to society's laws and values. The four bonds being: attachment, commitment, involvement, and belief. If there was any weakness in any of these four areas would be an explain for the cause of delinquency. Focal concerns theory is different than many other theories because it is not the rejection of middle–class... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As seen in the video the one mother saw that the gangs were trying to pressure her son into a gang through school and his friends so she moved but the same thing happened once they moved to another school there was no avoiding it. So the kid's peers have a very high influence on the individual. If the friends are already engaging in delinquent activity then it would be somewhat natural thing for the individual to mimic the same things. The second part of the theory is commitment. The theory explains that participating in activities the promote adherence to societies moral and ethical code of conduct will keep them from participating in delinquent behavior. Most of the kids are not engaging in after school activities or other activities that would promote behavior that is looked up to in society. The next part of the theory is involvement or preoccupation. Herschi related this mainly to school and doing homework to keep the kids occupied so they won't get caught up in delinquent behavior. But many of these kids aren't going to school on a regular basis or they gave up on the schooling system so they are not being preoccupied with anything that is beneficial to achieving prosocial bonds. The final part of this theory is belief in the laws and moral code. As the one man said "people in gangs don't care as long as they're making money." By that statement alone you can assume that they will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Los Angeles Soccer History Soccer in Los Angeles has been around since the beginning of the 19th century and in 1902, the Southern California Football League was founded. The Southern California League, which was later renamed the Greater Los Angeles Soccer League, was founded in 1903 and would be the big thing of soccer for many decades (Litterer). Los Angeles fell behind San Francisco in the development of soccer, and both regions were held back by their isolation from the rest of the country. The California State Football Association had also been founded in 1902, and then college soccer came west in the 1920s, but both were beaten by San Francisco for a number of years. UCLA's soccer team began play in 1937 and the Los Angeles Scots became the first Los Angeles based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the opening day crowd of 69,000 to the 19–13 Western Division 1st place finish through the exciting playoff run right up to the inaugural MLS Cup in chilly Foxboro, MA, this was a season for the ages, and a triumphant return of pro soccer as Los Angeles had never seen before. The Galaxy lost a heartbreaking match in overtime in the Cup, but they led the league in attendance with over 27,000 per game at the Rose Bowl, with Hurtado the league's 2nd best scorer, and Campos the top goalkeeper. The success of the Galaxy's first season came near the start of a wave of new teams at the lower levels leagues between 1995 and 1998. The Galaxy has been fortunate to have top coaching from Sigi Schmid, Bruce Arena and Ruud Gullit, as well as some top players, most importantly, US National standout Landon Donovan, who currently is the most prolific goal scorer in national team history, and a perennial Honda Award ... • 37. Pollution In Los Angeles Pollution and trash build up in Los Angeles has been accumulating and worsening for many years. The homeless population in Los Angeles also has been at an all time high. In areas like Van Nuys, Reseda, Downtown, and many more, there needs to be more trash cans near homeless encampments and along with those, cameras, which will document and hopefully successfully pinpoint potential littering suspects. The trash is not only harmful and damaging to our community but also Earth as a whole. By setting up more trash cans of which the city would be in charge of, it would hopefully encourage those who do frequently litter to throw away their waste properly. Besides putting up cameras and implementing more trash cans we can also set up a plan to benefit both our homeless citizens and the environment of our cities. The homeless give service to their city by keeping it clean and in return they gain food and shelter. The process works by setting up trash cans in locations where homeless tend to shelter themselves such as around freeways, the sidewalks, and within other public places. The homeless can take the trash they find and pick up whatever other trash they see to clean up. When the trash bags reach a certain weight, they can then take that garbage to homeless shelter. In return, the homeless shelter allows these homeless a night or two in the shelter. The main organizations, companies, and people we have contacted for our idea include Clean–Up Los Angeles City / County ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Crippin in Los Angeles Essay African American gangs in Los Angeles originated mostly from the migration of African Americans from the South after World War II. In the 1920's most of the gangs in Los Angeles were family oriented and it was not until the late 1940's that the first gangs began. The gangs surfaced out the area known as the East Side, which is the area east of Main Street to Alameda. A lot of the gangs surfaced because of the racism perpetrated by the whites. There was clear segregation and racism against blacks, they were not allowed in certain areas of Los Angeles and could not buy property there. White gangs got together to stop African Americans from trying to integrate themselves into the Los Angeles society. In turn, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The black political organizations in Los Angeles became stronger and stronger as the civil rights movement enthralled the nation. The strength and political power of the African Americans was seen as a threat to local and national security. The national government became concerned and formed counterintelligence groups to combat the growing African American political influence. The government used counterintelligence tactics to eradicate and destroy African American organizations, with the Black Panther Party as its main target. These tactics, called COINTELPRO, were previously used against the Socialist Workers Party (SWP), and the Communist Party (CPUSA) during the 1950s and 1940s. Clearly, it was an all out war between the government and African American leaders. The government was successful in stopping the movement in Los Angeles. African American youths in Los Angeles saw their role models shut down and their ideals shattered by the government. The lack of leadership and unity in the community led to the resurgence of gang violence. In 1969, Raymond Washington created a gang called the Baby Avenues, modeling itself to one of the early gangs of the sixties called the Avenues. They were also called the Avenue Cribs because of their youthfulness, and later just the Cribs. A student at Freemont High School, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
