BRANDING:LAND ROVER NORTH AMERICA, INC.
Statement of the Problems
Taking into account the role of Discovery vis–а–vis other models in the Land Rover line, the
brand's strengths and weaknesses versus formidable U.S. competitors, and potential differences in
target audience perceptions of brand and category equity in the United States versus the United
Kingdom, which of the three following positioning options should be introduced for the new
$30,000 Land Rover Discovery:
 The Definitive Family 4X4
 The Evolved Land Rover or
 The More Affordable Range Rover

Land Rover competed in all three SUV categories with the Defender 90 in the mini category,
Discovery in the compact category and Range Rover in the full–size category. Total Land Rover
sales of 4,906 units in 1993 equated to a 0.35 percent market share in the SUV market. By 1994,
over 30 SUV models were available with prices ranging from $10,000 to $60,000. All Japanese
manufacturers claimed less than a 20 percent share.
Customer Analysis
People pay thousands of extra dollars for 4WD capability but most SUVs sold contain 2WD with
their owners imagining a sort of "4WD halo" that benefits all vehicles in the category. The majority
of SUVs are used as sedans for family transportation, not as off road adventure machines.
Regarding consumer perceptions of major SUV brands, the Land Rover Discovery shared the
highest score on quality of 7.4 with the Ford Explorer and Toyota 4Runner. Additionally, the
Discovery enjoyed the highest rating of 7.6 on safety. Having the highest score on the two most
important factors in the SUV purchase helped position the Discovery very strongly despite its lack
of awareness.
The Discovery also enjoyed the highest rating of 7.4 on off–road capability, but received the lowest
rating on economics compared to all competitors.
Buyers are wealthy professionals (median income $63K versus $31K on average with

Mars Rover Curiosity
The Mars rover Curiosity is one the world's most advanced space exploration robot ever built, being
used to discover whether Mars is/was suitable for life while also studying the planet's climate,
biology, geology, geochemistry, planetary processes, and surface radiation. The data collected will
also help future exploration missions, most importantly future human exploration missions.
The rover was designed and engineered by Boeing, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena
in California, and Lockheed Martin with NASA's Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) controlling it.
The chief engineers were Rob Manning and Joel Krajewski.
They designed a nuclear–powered rover with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Space Shuttle Challenger Explosion NASA's space shuttle orbiter Challenger was an engineering
failure that shocked the US when it blew up 73 seconds into its flight after its launch from Florida in
1986, killing all seven of its crew. The cause of the failure was that the shuttle's O–ring seal in the
right rocket booster failed while at liftoff, allowing pressurized gas from the rocket to reach the
adjacent SRB aft field joint attachment hardware and external fuel tanks, causing structural failure
and aerodynamic forces to tear it apart. The O–ring wasn't designed to operate under the very cold
conditions during the launch. The technology involved was the O–ring and joints of the shuttle's
rocket boosters. The boosters were constructed into seven sections held together by joints, with each
joint being sealed by rubber O–rings. The O–rings are meant to contain hot, pressurized gas. If the
O–ring fails, there are little safe aborts possible for the shuttle with hot gas leaking on the

The first video I chose is called the Search for Signs of Life on Mars. It had an interdiction by NAI
Director of the Presenter Abigail Allwood. Her background was given, studied at Macquarie
University in Australia, and was recruited by JPL as soon as she graduated. The topic was
introduced, which is PIXL (Planetary Instrument for X–ray Lithochemistry) and the Mars 2020
Rover. The Mars 2020 Rover will be sent to Mars to seek potential clues to past life and to hopefully
gather samples for possible future return to Earth. PIXL is an arm mounted x–ray fluorescence
instrument that will measure chemistry of rocks or soils on the surface. She spoke of two major
topics in her seminar: Searching for signs of life on Mars and early Earth, and then ... Show more

There is a lesson plan on the NASA educator's site that I am going to be borrowing things from. I

just in money, but in time. NASA plans for years for a mission, and they have to plan for all kinds of
outcomes. We have a history of failed missions, we don't want the next one to get added to that

Using the Plays “Much Ado About Nothing” and “the Rover”,...
Using the plays "Much Ado About Nothing" and "The Rover", discuss and compare each play's
treatment of women.
The Renaissance comedy, 'Much Ado About Nothing', written by Shakespeare in 1600 during the
Elizabethan era, addresses male inconstancy and female persecution; how women are controlled by
the prevailing patriarchal system. Hero, the conventional heroine, is a 'shrinking violet', who suffers
character assassination through male actions. 'The Rover', written in 1677 for the Restoration society
of Charles II where men were hedonistic, uncommitted and brimming with bravado, also explores
gender conflicts. However playwright, Aphra Behn, in this Restoration comedy, critically comments
on male attitudes, and – through female rebellion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hypocritically he assumes the role of victim, accusing her of leaving a "cob–web door to catch
flies". However Behn offers the audience a scintilla of justification from this attempted rape,
Wilmore blaming the "cursed sack" he has drunken which might excuse him from the Restoration
crowd, if not later audiences.
Worse is to come in 4/2 when the masked Florinda hides in Blunt's lodgings from her brother. While
Wilmore is afforded drunken stupor as an excuse, Blunt's actions are motivated by misogynistic
revenge. Blunt's hatred for Lucetta the prostitute turns Florinda into an opportunity to "wreak his
righteous revenge on womankind". Frederick's involvement also implicates the cavaliers' behaviour
as he joins Blunt. Even Belvile's honourable status is doubted, Frederick referring to him as "a
cormorant at whore and bacon". It is unsurprising that 18th century productions censored Blunt's
most vicious imagery to protect public tastes. The atmosphere becomes graver still as Florinda's
brother ironically wins the 'lottery' using the length of their swords; an explicit phallic connotation,
to take Florinda first.
Even the Restoration audience recognises Behn challenging male hypocrisies, by creating a situation
where the patriarchal protector himself is responsible for the loss of female virtue. The swiftness
with which Florinda accepts their apologies "I heartily forgive you all" provides the males,
especially Blunt, with undeserving

The Myth of The Range Rover and Hollywood In Hollywood you're not considered a prominent
figure, until you drive a Range Rover. For this reason, the Range Rover is the perfect commodity to
exemplify a Hollywood myth. A myth as Roland Barthes describes in Mythologies, is a kind of
speech, in which the history of an object is distorted to signify a new modern history that feels
completely natural to modern society. The Range Rover has been appropriated into Hollywood by
celebrities and is predominantly owned by upper class celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Jay–Z
and David Beckham. This vehicle, which was was originally used in the military and for off roading
terrain has had it's history drained and filled with a new history that signifies a much different myth
than it used to. In this essay, I will argue that the myth of the Range Rover signifies a prestigious
and powerful vehicle, designed with royalty and privilege as it is made specifically for the
celebrities and the famous upper class personalities of Hollywood. The Range Rover's appearance
has an authoritative god–like presence caused by the size of the vehicle. It is a large vehicle, but
mostly in it's height as it is not very wide and appears significantly slim. Despite how large the body
of the vehicle appears, it can only sit five people so virtually no additional seating is gained by the
size of the vehicle, therefore the size of the vehicle is not for convenience purposes, but for exterior
appearance. The

It is not the first run through charged pyramids or different remains have been found on Mars.

Mr. Waring included: "If NASA was really trying, they would explore some of these UFO

evidence that NASA has something very big to hide from the public.

Case Analysis: Land Rover North America Essay
1) Background Analysis:
General Market Assessment: In the 90's, the SUV was looking to become a highly contentious
market, however, with a new emphasis on the Leisure SUV. This was where LRNA will be able to
maximize its market share, and perhaps grab a foothold on the market.
Competition and behavior: The SUV industry in North America was becoming increasingly
competitive, with "over 30 SUV models, their prices ranging from $10,000 to $60,000. Market
leaders were Jeep and Ford, with Jeep having a strong heritage in the USA much in the same was as
Land Rover did in the United Kingdom. Jeep itself had three lines; much in the way Land Rover
was trying to carry various lines for different segments of the market. The international impact ...

This strategy is based upon the surveys and brand perception of the Discovery line amongst their
competition as well as within the Land Rover umbrella. The SUVS had a perception of being more
safer to drive and also hit an increasing pragmatism within the market. I shall expand my decision in
the recommendation segment.
2) Recommendation:
The target for my recommendation, as I have said above, is the Family buyers "who needed versatile
and practical transportation solutions" and as the definitive family 4x4. If one were to look at
Exhibit 8 as provided in the study, it shows as part of the conjoint analysis that out of the highest
SUV intenders, who preferred Quality and Safety, with Mean importance ratings of 4.5 and 4.3,
were most important to people with children, with ratings of 4.5 and 4.4. Of the least importance to
anyone was Status/Image, at 2.9. The importance of status and image had waned from the 80s, and
the 90s now stressed on experiences and pragmatism. In line with this we see that from a mean
importance of 4.1 for Off–road capability, of which was valued pretty evenly by all concerned.
And so it is with this target in mind that positioning should concentrate on the family unit. The
positioning would benefit from the fact that the Discovery came with alternative body
configurations, which made it easily adaptable. As the case points out, the five–door

In Aphra Behn's "The Rover," characters define relationships as a type of economy where value and
use are key. This time period commodified love and sexuality, valuing financial success over
meaningful relationships. The dowry system made rich women with a high status most desirable for
marriage and their value was increased by their honor. Typical of seventeenth century literature,
Behn plays with this ideology as "the language of love in Restoration comedies frequently draws on
the language of commerce."1 She expresses her beliefs on the "'interest,' 'credit,' and 'value'"2
associated with love and sexuality through the different prices placed on her characters. Where Behn

Upon realizing Moretta is unwilling to donate Angellica to him, Willmore attempts to give Moretta a
pistole in exchange for "a pistoles–worth of this vain, gay [thing]." (Behn, 243). He believes his
charm is enough to haggle down Angellica's price. But this is another transaction Moretta is
unwilling to make, and the "conventionally constructed male, vigorous and over–powering, has
failed." (Munns 181). She asserts her authority over him by affirming that she will only sell
Angellica " by the whole piece." (Behn, 243). She continues to display the power she gained by
ignoring love by rejecting Willmore's offers in an attempt to reinforce to Angellica that "power is
everywhere; it can belong to someone who commands and give orders to a subject, or one who
obeys or gives the impression of obeying."6 However, this attempt is futile; Angellica gives up the
power given to her by prostitution when she gives Willmore the five hundred crowns. Previously,
Angellica had the power in her sexual relationships because she set the price. The power shifts once
Willmore sets his own price, and even more so when he still refuses to love Angellica. Before falling
in love, Angellica has a position of power over the male characters in "The Rover." She believes
men are "of an humor so uneasy and inconstant that the victory over his heart is as soon lost as won.

Poor customer service and appalling workmanship in product quality due to poor quality control
tarnished the reputation of Rover cars as a high quality innovative manufacturer. Quality control
involves inspection of materials, processes, end products as well as customer services guaranteeing
high standards. Unlike its competitors, Rover cars were poorly built and were prone to rust and its
windows tend to leak within months of purchase. As a result, the company was losing its winning
factor, which is desirability among customers. As the company progressed, lack of employee
discipline put its reputation at stake as Rover cars became notoriously known as a car company with
poor build quality and poor customer service as complaints from customers were conveniently
swept under the carpet. Overcoming the situation, I would adopt internal and external control as
well as market control to improve the control of the organisation. With market control, influence by
competitors in terms of organisational behaviour would encourage employees to cope with the
competition by using similar quality materials to ensure longer durability and are less prone to rust.
Also, implementation of internal control promotes self–discipline among employees in fulfilling
tasks expectations and responsibilities, especially in customer service. By implementing external
control strategy, managers must take immediate action against employees should there be a

Difference in way of operations: While Rover management wanted immediate responses or product

Difference in Management Style : While Rover employer employee relationship was contractual in

Honda was the bigger partner with more bargaining power. Rover had no design say, paid

Background on Tata Motors Acquiring Jaguar
Tata Motors is India's largest passenger automobile and commercial vehicle established in 1945
Listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2004. TATA Motors is best example that has a number of

The Rover In The Play
Mehak Gulati
1087
Aphra Behn was one of the first English professional female literary writers and a playwright of
English Restoration. She had proved to be the most humorous and entertaining writer with her play,
"The Rover". The play is set in the 17th century in the colonial reign of Spain. The play mainly
focuses on female characters. The female characters are potrayed as strong and independent. The
setting of the play is Carnival time in Venice which holds importance to the plot because of many
reasons.
When we read the play, we realise that The Rover also presents conflicting views on marriage and
thereby reveals the tensions and the contradictions inherent in the seemingly monolithic patriarchal
ideology. Willmore, who is actually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Florinda is a person who doesn't believe in the rich–poor thing when it comes to marriage as
opposed to her father and brother's views on marriage which states that money holds more
importance than compatibility. We may say that their views are harsh or oppressive but if we think a
little, they are quite realistic or say practical in the long term since money is actually very important
to survive in this world. Being practical, anybody would want to lead a luxurious life instead of a
life in poverty even if it's with a person they are madly in love with.
As said earlier, Aphra Behn reveals the tensions and the harm that can cause because of the presence
of a strong and rigid patriarchal society by using the treatment of women in the play. The treatment
with Florinda throughout the play suggested that patriarchy is dangerous for women. We see that
Florinda is manipulated, treated horribly by men as she was nearly raped by the two male characters
of the play. Also, Behn uses Willmore's attitude towards women to prove her point. He seduces
Hellena, sleeps with Angellica and make sexual commitments to almost every women he

Analysis Of The Poem ' Elin Diamond '
Elin Diamond takes an insightful look at a time when the identity of females was being displayed in
a false way in restoration theatre. What breaks down is the themes that chained females to their
place in society while also uncovering why a female playwright, given her awareness of these
problems that surrounded her and females around her, blatantly used and exploited these methods in
her writing throughout her life. The apparatus, or enabler of this happening is pulled apart first. She
goes into detail explaining the social hierarchy of those who ran and produced theatre

Michele is a major contribution for this cause and is unwavering in her stand to do her part. Stay
tuned!
On a more personal note, Candy received a check from Keller Williams of Medford for a donation
to the VAO in honor of her mother, Marie. It was a touching contribution and honor of her legacy
that they hand delivered to her office in Voorhees.
To really experience what it is like to be in the shelter 24/7 is not something I want you all to forget.
It adds fuel to my personal fire to know that the animals simply wait for their forever homes, in a
facility that is falling apart left and right.
I will be contacting everyone next Tuesday as to updates on where you are with your personal
connections and declared discussions you have all mentioned for contribution and or sponsorship.
As you spend time with your loved ones or rest in prayer and solace, know that wherever I will be I
will have the conversation of the plight of the VAO. I invite you all to do the same, if possible.

Sexual Freedom In The Rover
Miranda's assault on Henrick might be viewed as Behn's version of a cautionary tale, warning
readers not to get too caught up in manmade constructs that inhibit them from fulfilling their innate
needs; it could also serve as a criticism of the more dangerous aspects of libertine beliefs. Miranda's
sexual freedom leads her to have a lack of respect for Henrick's values and boundaries. Willmore's
attempted rape of Florinda is a more traditional scene that is still played out even in modern times.
When The Rover first introduces him, Willmore makes it clear that he is interested in one thing
only–sex. Discussing the women he sees at Carnival who have baskets of roses in their hands, he
says, "Kind, and obliging to inform us–Pray, where do these ... Show more content on

Out of all the female characters in The Rover, it is only ever Florinda who finds herself the victim of
attempted assaults. In her article "Rape and the Female Subject in Aphra Behn's The Rover", Anita
Pacheco writes, "It is Florinda's rebellion against the commodification of forced marriage that
destabilizes her position within patriarchy... (Pacheco 323)." Pacheco notes that assaults on Florinda
are never specifically called rape; the first is referred to as seduction, the second retaliation, and the
third "ruffling a harlot" (323). Florinda declares to her brother, "...I would not have a man so dear to
me as my brother, follow the ill customs of our country, and make a slave of his sister... (Behn 160)"
when she tells him of her refusal to marry the man her father has chosen for her. In doing this,
Florinda has taken claim of her own life and rejected the protection of a man; if she belonged to a
man, the assaults would not have occurred because the would–be assaulters would have respected
the sovereignty of her husband. In fact, Florinda is saved from Blunt's attack because she convinces
him that Belvile will be angry if he harms her. The character of Florinda is Behn's critique on the
way men view woman as commodities instead of autonomous

Fortuity Rover History
The Fortuity rover is configured to retrieve samples and information in various environments of the
Mars terrain. Its chief objective is to acquire untainted sampling of minerals and water from ground
or ice (Mars polar caps) and from these different samples ascertain the best possible sample to
transport back to Earth. It also has the ability to test the weather. The Fortuity rover is different than
the past rovers and that it can separate into two different components, the R.M.M. "retrieving and
multi–terrain maneuvering"and P.T.P. "Power, Testing and Probe" unit. It weighs 1 Ton and
measures at 9 Ft x 9 ft. 6 in.
The Robotic mechanical arms purpose is to capture, collect and retrieve samples for the P.T.P. It is
located in forward department of the R.M.M. It is equipped to deal with objects at 360 degrees and
allows simple tasks like grasping, sorting, cutting, digging, examining, and moving objects. It can
grasp mid size objects and has lifting capacity up to 90 kg if needed and deliver it into the testing
platform of the PTP component on the rover. The robotic arm is designed with 12 servo motors to

`` The Rover `` By Aphra Behn
Between the classifications of "virgin" and "prostitute" lay a void, not a range; one could give "the
entire freight or nothing". Performed in 1677, Aphra Behn 's play, The Rover addresses this twofold
standard, which restricted her female companions ' sexual cravings to the domain of religious
community, massage parlor, or home. Set free in the upside down universe of Festival, her
characters show the dynamic, entangled amusement required of ladies looking to secure individual
satisfaction. The perils of the pursuit and the play 's clean decision, then again, propose at how
women neither could nor ought to stray too far into the manly parts of wooer and owner. In spite of
the fact that ladies may desire higher degrees of self–sufficiency and sexual expression, their lives
still fit inside of the limits of three parts: cloister adherent, whore, or wife.
Taking after the breakdown of the Puritan Protectorate in 1660, the corridors of court appeared to
buzz with a bubbly state of mind: "Out with the old and in with the... more established."
Unceremonious parties under Charles II recaptured the reputation of their pre–Cromwellian
partners. England 's above all else drove his aristocrats by sample with an indulgent way of life of
gatherings, sex, and extreme spending. The social and sexual opportunity of this "libertinism," be
that as it may, did not reach out to women. The fall of the Puritan District did little to dissipate the
political and religious strains that influenced

universe, Mars is only a mere 49 million miles from Earth. Mars has been the object of many
speculative questions and hypothesis. Over the years, many have wondered if Mars ever sustained
life, or if not, if it were possible to one day sustain life; i.e. Humans. There have been many
missions to Mars in an attempt to answer those and other questions, like the three separate rover
craft missions that will be discussed in this paper. Most recently, the idea to put humans on Mars has
gained traction and scientists have begun the process to put that plan into motion. The goal of this

Mars Rover
Mars is an interesting and mysterious planet. It is often referred to as the Red Planet. The Romans
named Mars after the god of war. The rocks, soil, and sky all have a red hue on account of rust. Mars
is the fourth planet from the sun at about 141 million miles (228 million kilometers) and the last
terrestrial planet from the Sun. Mars follows closely behind Earth but is comparatively smaller, with
about half the diameter of Earth (6,794–km) and about one–tenth of Earth s mass (6.419 x 1023 kg).
Thus the force of gravity on Mars is about one–third of that on Earth. Mars is probably the planet we
know the most about since it is so close to Earth, though what we know now is not even close to
everything about the planet. Over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was launched from Cape Canaveral. Stage one, it reaches space and the tip of the cone opens and

everything is alined the second engine starts to bring it to mars. Once Curiosity is on Mars it will do

Case Study : Jaguar Land Rover
Jaguar Land Rover ("JLR") is a multinational manufacturer of automobiles with complex history
and had struggled in producing quality products in the past (some would argue the struggle
continues). The original design of the flagship automobile was done in 1947 for the Rover
Company, which was taken over by British Leyland Motor Corporation and was incorporated as
Land Rover in 1978. In 2002, Ford Motor Company united Jaguar and Land Rover under one entity,
which is today owned by Tata Motors. The company manufactures automobiles ranging from super–
charged sports coupes to very capable off–road vehicles including military grade models for British
and Australian army.
Southwest Airlines ("SW") is an airline that has focused on customer service. SW was selected
because of the process it has in place for training its employees and support for its customers. The
process in place for hiring and training its employees is one of the most important aspects of SW's
success. Operating since 1971, SW is a bit of a newcomer to the airline industry with their
headquarters in Dallas, Texas. SW operates about 3,900 flights per day with employing more than
49,000 employees. SW operates flights within the United States and Mexico.

The Mars Exploration Rover Mission (Spirit and Opportunity...
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) launched two similar twin robotic rovers
which were Spirit and Opportunity toward Mars on 10 June and 7 July 2003 (NASA 2012). Spirit
and Opportunity landed in Gusev Crater on 4 January 2004 and in Meridiani Planum on 25 January
2004 respectively (NASA 2012). Opportunity is still operating and roving after 10 years on the
Martian surface while final communication of Spirit to the Earth took place on 22 March 2010,
which is around six years into its mission (NASA 2012). The rovers were thought to last 20 times
longer as compared to its original design. As part of NASA's Mars Exploration Program, the Mars
Exploration Rover mission is a continuous multi–mission effort to study Mars as a possible
habitation for past or present life and to look for signs of life as well as to prepare for human
exploration. Primary objective of the Mars Exploration Rover mission is to explore and characterize
a wide range of soils and rocks that possess clues or evidences to past water activity on Mars
(NASA 2012).
It is hard to get to Mars and it is even harder to land on Mars, thus Spirit and Opportunity had to
overcome numerous challenges in order to land on Mars and to carry out their missions. These two
rovers were required to fly through approximately 483 million kilometers of deep space and a very
precise landing spot had to be targeted (Jet Propulsion Laboratory 2011). Although their flight paths
can be adjusted along the way,

The Mars Science Laboratory (MSL): The Curiosity Crater
The Mars Science Laboratory (MSL), also known as the Curiosity rover, is a NASA mission with
the goal of discovering details about past and present–day Mars. The primary purpose of the mission
is to determine if Mars once had a suitable environment for microbial life. The area of Mars chosen
to be studied is an ancient impact crater called the Gale Crater. It has many unique geologic features
that piqued the interest of astronomers and geologists and could be indicative of past water flows
and possibly habitable environments. Since landing on the crater in 2012, the rover has been very
successful and has given a lot of information about the past and present of the plant.

It has six wheels for travel, and a robotic arm used to collect samples and bore into rocks with an
attached drill. The rover generates power through radioactive decay from plutonium–283. According
to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA, the rover is equipped with the most
advanced technology in order to study the present geology and environment of Gale Crater. Ten
different instruments are being by the rover. One important instrument is called Sample Analysis at
Mars (SAM) which is used to analyze materials collected by the rover and take samples of the
atmosphere in order to determine abundance of elements of different isotopes and compounds
present. The Mast Camera is used for high resolution imagining in order to view the rover's
surroundings. The CheMin instrument analyzes materials collected by the rover using X–ray
diffraction and fluorescence. The ChemCam instrument is used to vaporize rocks by using a laser,
and a telescope is then used to image plasma light from the rocks, and identify elements present.
Located on the robotic arm, the Mars Hand Lens Imager is used to take very detailed images of
small features. The Alpha Particle X–ray Spectrometer is also located on the robotic are and is used
to determine amounts of elements present. The Radiation Assessment Detector (RAD) is used to
determine amounts of radiation in the crater. Another instrument is the Mars Descent Imager was
used to film video during landing in order to map geology of the landing site. The Rover
Environmental Monitoring System is used to measure environmental factors such as pressure,

Rover Into Space
My science fiction paper will largely focus on a software engineer at NASA working on the artificial
intelligence for their rovers. It will take place in the near future some time within the next fifty
years. With the speed of innovation in the tech industry (the first lunar rover wasn't even sent fifty
years ago) I'm sure the capabilities of these space exploration vehicles will be astounding. My story
will probably focus mostly on the life of the engineer, along with his efforts improving the actions of
the rovers. I'll be assuming it will be a lot cheaper to get a rover into space by 2060 and we'll be able
to send a lot more rovers out. The character will be part of the team that tries to keep the rovers
largely automated so we can collect a lot of information without really trying or costing much.

Curiosity: A Robotic Rover
On August 6, 2014, a robotic rover Curiosity, which worth about 25 million dollars, was
successfully landed on Mars and immediately sent back images of the areas around the mission's
landing site. Radioactive isotopes are used for the first time as the power source for this car–sized
robotic rover. As a part of NASA's Mars Science Laboratory mission, Curiosity was launched on
November 26, 2011, and it was the most ambitious and expensive exploration mission on Mars in
history. (Wall, 2012) Curiosity rover takes along with a variety of advanced instruments and
equipment, planning to determine if there were conditions for life existed in the past on Mars or to
search for signs of life in rocket around landing area. It would work continuously ... Show more

After the specific mineral elements in rock samples are determined, Curiosity grinds rock into fine
powdery sample and pours it into a chemistry and mineralogy analyze system ––– CheMin. CheMin
then directs a beam of X–rays at the powder and the crystal structure of the minerals deflects it at a
characteristic angle, which allows the scientists to distinguish the minerals being analyzed. CheMin
provided the valuable information about the varieties of the minerals exists on Mars, as well as each
mineral's reserves. Analyzing each mineral on Mars allows scientists to find major leads of
temperature, pressure and acidity of Mars' environment during the time when these minerals were
formed. Therefore, CheMin has the potential to reveal whether Gale Crater is a suitable place for life
exists. (Anderson, 2010) However, whether it is possible to find the signs of life on Mars remains
unsure, since it is an extremely difficult task to make a clear conclusion about life existence on
exterior planet. Nevertheless, by searching for organic molecules, Curious tries its best to find the
solutions to this

Tata Motors : The World's Cheapest Car Priced
Tata Motors, India's largest auto manufacturer have created the world's cheapest car priced at $2,500
allowing drivers to be able to afford a car. Tata Group is a global enterprise whose headquarters are
located in India, founded in 1868. The group contains over 100 independent operating companies,
located in more than 100 countries. Each company is under control of their own board of directors
and shareholders. One of the subsidiaries of Tata Group that will be focused on in the paper will be
Tata Motors. They were founded in 1945, which is headquartered in Mumbai produces different
types of vehicles. These vehicles include passenger cars, trucks, vans, buses and military vehicles.

By adding two competences by both companies the risk of failure will be less. Since Tata was
formed in 1945 they have had agreements with other companies to help benefit the company. In
1954 Tata Motors entered a 15 year agreement with Daimler–Benz AG to make medium size
commercial vehicles. In 1985 they made hydraulic excavators with Japan Hitachi. Cummins Engine
entered a joint agreement with Tata Motors in 1993 to make high horsepower and low emission
diesel engines for their cars. Tata Motors went into another joint venture with Daimler–Benz to
manufacture Mercedes–Benz passenger cars for the Indian people. India's first off road vehicle, the
Tata Safari was in need for a turbocharger along with a Cummins diesel engine in 1998, so Tata
Motors signed a joint venture with Tata Holset from the United Kingdom. Tata Motors have begun a
partnership with Bharat Forge and General Dynamics Land Systems in March 2016. These
companies bring in their own expertise that will help both companies. Tata Motors strengths are in
design and development while Bharat Forge's will bring strong manufacturing. They have put
together $11 billion for a project to create combat vehicles.
In 2008 Tata Motor's purchased globally recognized British brands Land Rover and Jaguar for $2.3
billion from Ford. The companies did not look promising due to the financial crisis and the demand

7 Minutes Of Terror Essay
"Sometimes when we look at it, it looks crazy," said Adam Steltzner. Adam is an engineer who
works for NASA, a part of the United States government that explores space. Adam was talking
about landing something on Mars. "It is the result of reasoned engineering thought. But it still looks
crazy."
Adam and some of the people he works with made a video called "Seven Minutes of Terror" about a
Mars landing. In the video, they introduced people around the world to one of the most daring and
creative achievements of engineering ever completed. That achievement was the pinpoint landing of
Curiosity on Mars. Curiosity is a machine called a rover, and it was built to explore the surface of
Mars.
The seven minutes described in Adam's video refer to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, engineers came up with a maneuver that would allow the craft carrying Curiosity to turn
quickly. Then, rockets would turn on and allow Curiosity to make a vertical landing.
Switching from a parachute to a controlled rocket descent could have gone wrong at any time. Still,
even getting the descent right was not enough to succeed. Once the parachute was cut free, the force
from the rockets could raise so much dust that the dust itself could damage the rover.
Always thinking ahead, the engineers came up with a solution. They created a device to complete
the last step of the landing. The device was called a "sky crane." When the sky crane was close to
Mars's surface, it used a set of cables to lower Curiosity onto the ground.
At last Curiosity landed, going from 13,000 miles per hour to zero in just seven minutes. The
capsule that had been carrying Curiosity still had all its rockets firing. It blasted back into the sky
and landed somewhere else on the planet. The landing was a success.
The Ongoing Mission
NASA says that the MSL mission is part of a long–term plan. This plan uses robots to explore Mars.
The most popular question is whether there ever was life on Mars. Looking for the answer to that
question is just one piece of a bigger

Land Rover North America, Inc with teacher's questions and...
Case SynopsisThis case describes how Land Rover North America, Inc. (LRNA) has redesigned
their dealerships and selling process with the objective of building and enhancing equity for its
brand. Land Rover is a niche player in a very crowded and rapidly maturing product category.
Competition is fierce and is dominated by large global competitors with extensive dealer networks
who differentiate their products largely by size, features, and price. The company has relatively few
dealerships and cannot afford the volume of advertising or promotion that its primary competitors
can. The company must choose to depend upon positioning its product as a specialty brand,
characterized by brand insistence on the part of its buyers.
Charles Hughes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We would also advocate "Love of Product" seminars for staff and retail partners because we think
individuals who believe in the product sell it best.
Lastly, LRNA must determine if it should continue its use of a dealer network or convert these
franchises into freestanding, exclusive retail outlets called Land Rover Centres. Though
development of Land Rover Centre's across the nation seems like a risky move, especially in the
face of declining luxury car sales and dealership consolidation, we wholeheartedly support it. Part of
the lure of the Land Rover aura is the willingness to tread new territory, take risk and be
revolutionary in leadership style. Land Rover Centre's will do just that. Land Rover Centre's will
increase consumer exposure to the Land Rover family of vehicles and the Land Rover way of life in
a friendly, stress–free environment. We want consumers to not only drive Land Rover vehicles, but
to live the Land Rover lifestyle. We want Land Rover vehicles to expose consumers to the wealth of
new experiences they are seeking. Centre development costs are high, but we believe the payoff will
exceed costs.
Case Objectives and UseThe following case study is intended for Retail Management or Marketing
Management courses at the undergraduate or graduate levels. This case

Total Land Rover sales of 4,906 units in 1993 equated to a 0.35 percent market share in the SUV market. By 1994, over 30 SUV models were available with prices ranging from $10,000 to $60,000. All Japanese manufacturers claimed less than a 20 percent share. Customer Analysis People pay thousands of extra dollars for 4WD capability but most SUVs sold contain 2WD with their owners imagining a sort of "4WD halo" that benefits all vehicles in the category. The majority of SUVs are used as sedans for family transportation, not as off road adventure machines. Regarding consumer perceptions of major SUV brands, the Land Rover Discovery shared the highest score on quality of 7.4 with the Ford Explorer and Toyota 4Runner. Additionally, the Discovery enjoyed the highest rating of 7.6 on safety. Having the highest score on the two most important factors in the SUV purchase helped position the Discovery very strongly despite its lack of awareness. The Discovery also enjoyed the highest rating of 7.4 on off–road capability, but received the lowest rating on economics compared to all competitors. It gave me a new appreciation for what engineers do to create new technology that allows for cutting–edge research to increase our understanding of the universe around us. Space Shuttle Challenger Explosion NASA's space shuttle orbiter Challenger was an engineering failure that shocked the US when it blew up 73 seconds into its flight after its launch from Florida in 1986, killing all seven of its crew. The cause of the failure was that the shuttle's O–ring seal in the right rocket booster failed while at liftoff, allowing pressurized gas from the rocket to reach the adjacent SRB aft field joint attachment hardware and external fuel tanks, causing structural failure and aerodynamic forces to tear it apart. The O–ring wasn't designed to operate under the very cold conditions during the launch. The technology involved was the O–ring and joints of the shuttle's rocket boosters. The boosters were constructed into seven sections held together by joints, with each joint being sealed by rubber O–rings. The O–rings are meant to contain hot, pressurized gas. The Renaissance comedy, 'Much Ado About Nothing', written by Shakespeare in 1600 during the Elizabethan era, addresses male inconstancy and female persecution; how women are controlled by the prevailing patriarchal system. Hero, the conventional heroine, is a 'shrinking violet', who suffers character assassination through male actions. 'The Rover', written in 1677 for the Restoration society of Charles II where men were hedonistic, uncommitted and brimming with bravado, also explores gender conflicts. However playwright, Aphra Behn, in this Restoration comedy, critically comments on male attitudes, and – through female rebellion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hypocritically he assumes the role of victim, accusing her of leaving a "cob–web door to catch flies". However Behn offers the audience a scintilla of justification from this attempted rape, Wilmore blaming the "cursed sack" he has drunken which might excuse him from the Restoration crowd, if not later audiences. Worse is to come in 4/2 when the masked Florinda hides in Blunt's lodgings from her brother. While Wilmore is afforded drunken stupor as an excuse, Blunt's actions are motivated by misogynistic revenge. Blunt's hatred for Lucetta the prostitute turns Florinda into an opportunity to "wreak his righteous revenge on womankind". Frederick's involvement also implicates the cavaliers' behaviour as he joins Blunt. Even Belvile's honourable status is doubted, Frederick referring to him as "a cormorant at whore and bacon". It is unsurprising that 18th century productions censored Blunt's most vicious imagery to protect public tastes. The atmosphere becomes graver still as Florinda's brother ironically wins the 'lottery' using the length of their swords; an explicit phallic connotation, to take Florinda first. Even the Restoration audience recognises Behn challenging male hypocrisies, by creating a situation where the patriarchal protector himself is responsible for the loss of female virtue. For this reason, the Range Rover is the perfect commodity to exemplify a Hollywood myth. A myth as Roland Barthes describes in Mythologies, is a kind of speech, in which the history of an object is distorted to signify a new modern history that feels completely natural to modern society. The Range Rover has been appropriated into Hollywood by celebrities and is predominantly owned by upper class celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Jay–Z and David Beckham. This vehicle, which was was originally used in the military and for off roading terrain has had it's history drained and filled with a new history that signifies a much different myth than it used to. In this essay, I will argue that the myth of the Range Rover signifies a prestigious and powerful vehicle, designed with royalty and privilege as it is made specifically for the celebrities and the famous upper class personalities of Hollywood. The Range Rover's appearance has an authoritative god–like presence caused by the size of the vehicle. It is a large vehicle, but mostly in it's height as it is not very wide and appears significantly slim. Despite how large the body of the vehicle appears, it can only sit five people so virtually no additional seating is gained by the size of the vehicle, therefore the size of the vehicle is not for convenience purposes, but for exterior appearance. Case Analysis: Land Rover North America Essay 1) Background Analysis: General Market Assessment: In the 90's, the SUV was looking to become a highly contentious market, however, with a new emphasis on the Leisure SUV. This was where LRNA will be able to maximize its market share, and perhaps grab a foothold on the market. Competition and behavior: The SUV industry in North America was becoming increasingly competitive, with "over 30 SUV models, their prices ranging from $10,000 to $60,000. If one were to look at Exhibit 8 as provided in the study, it shows as part of the conjoint analysis that out of the highest SUV intenders, who preferred Quality and Safety, with Mean importance ratings of 4.5 and 4.3, were most important to people with children, with ratings of 4.5 and 4.4. In line with this we see that from a mean importance of 4.1 for Off–road capability, of which was valued pretty evenly by all concerned. And so it is with this target in mind that positioning should concentrate on the family unit. The positioning would benefit from the fact that the Discovery came with alternative body configurations, which made it easily adaptable. As the case points out, the five–door ... • 31. The Rover Analysis In Aphra Behn's "The Rover," characters define relationships as a type of economy where value and use are key. This time period commodified love and sexuality, valuing financial success over meaningful relationships. The dowry system made rich women with a high status most desirable for marriage and their value was increased by their honor. Typical of seventeenth century literature, Behn plays with this ideology as "the language of love in Restoration comedies frequently draws on the language of commerce."1 She expresses her beliefs on the "'interest,' 'credit,' and 'value'"2 associated with love and sexuality through the different prices placed on her characters. But this is another transaction Moretta is unwilling to make, and the "conventionally constructed male, vigorous and over–powering, has failed." (Munns 181). She asserts her authority over him by affirming that she will only sell Angellica " by the whole piece." (Behn, 243). She continues to display the power she gained by ignoring love by rejecting Willmore's offers in an attempt to reinforce to Angellica that "power is everywhere; it can belong to someone who commands and give orders to a subject, or one who obeys or gives the impression of obeying."6 However, this attempt is futile; Angellica gives up the power given to her by prostitution when she gives Willmore the five hundred crowns. Previously, Angellica had the power in her sexual relationships because she set the price. The power shifts once Willmore sets his own price, and even more so when he still refuses to love Angellica. She had proved to be the most humorous and entertaining writer with her play, "The Rover". The play is set in the 17th century in the colonial reign of Spain. The play mainly focuses on female characters. The female characters are potrayed as strong and independent. The setting of the play is Carnival time in Venice which holds importance to the plot because of many reasons. • 71. Analysis Of The Poem ' Elin Diamond ' Elin Diamond takes an insightful look at a time when the identity of females was being displayed in a false way in restoration theatre. What breaks down is the themes that chained females to their place in society while also uncovering why a female playwright, given her awareness of these problems that surrounded her and females around her, blatantly used and exploited these methods in her writing throughout her life. The apparatus, or enabler of this happening is pulled apart first. She goes into detail explaining the social hierarchy of those who ran and produced theatre predominantly, This being mostly upper class aristocratic males. The same males who were shown to have control of production from the inception of the script to the selling of said tickets to other aristocrats for the viewing of the plays. This leads to the development of new technologies as time progressed so did technology. Elin exposes the fact these technologies created this idea of Spectator fetishism and that from this the identity of women became directly conflicted. It crafted this idea that there were two sides of women, the false, theatrical, and powdered woman versus the "natural" female. Supporting this idea is anecdotal telling 's of men 's fascination with watching women create these theatrical versions of themselves. • 92. `` The Rover `` By Aphra Behn Between the classifications of "virgin" and "prostitute" lay a void, not a range; one could give "the entire freight or nothing". Performed in 1677, Aphra Behn 's play, The Rover addresses this twofold standard, which restricted her female companions ' sexual cravings to the domain of religious community, massage parlor, or home. Set free in the upside down universe of Festival, her characters show the dynamic, entangled amusement required of ladies looking to secure individual satisfaction. The perils of the pursuit and the play 's clean decision, then again, propose at how women neither could nor ought to stray too far into the manly parts of wooer and owner. In spite of the fact that ladies may desire higher degrees of self–sufficiency and sexual expression, their lives still fit inside of the limits of three parts: cloister adherent, whore, or wife. Taking after the breakdown of the Puritan Protectorate in 1660, the corridors of court appeared to buzz with a bubbly state of mind: "Out with the old and in with the... more established." Unceremonious parties under Charles II recaptured the reputation of their pre–Cromwellian partners. England 's above all else drove his aristocrats by sample with an indulgent way of life of gatherings, sex, and extreme spending. Mars has been the object of many speculative questions and hypothesis. Over the years, many have wondered if Mars ever sustained life, or if not, if it were possible to one day sustain life; i.e. Humans. There have been many missions to Mars in an attempt to answer those and other questions, like the three separate rover craft missions that will be discussed in this paper. Most recently, the idea to put humans on Mars has gained traction and scientists have begun the process to put that plan into motion. • 100. Mars Rover Mars Rover Mars is an interesting and mysterious planet. It is often referred to as the Red Planet. The Romans named Mars after the god of war. The rocks, soil, and sky all have a red hue on account of rust. Mars is the fourth planet from the sun at about 141 million miles (228 million kilometers) and the last terrestrial planet from the Sun. Mars follows closely behind Earth but is comparatively smaller, with about half the diameter of Earth (6,794–km) and about one–tenth of Earth s mass (6.419 x 1023 kg). Thus the force of gravity on Mars is about one–third of that on Earth. Mars is probably the planet we know the most about since it is so close to Earth, though what we know now is not even close to everything about the planet. Over ... The rover Curiosity, finally landed on mars August 6, 2012, it was launched November 26, 2011. Before NASA could be launched Curiosity, the rover it had to go through series of test, drop tests, pull test, drive test, load test, stress tests, and shorting tests. So scientists had to realize that Earth and Mars revolve around the sun at different rates meaning it takes Mars 686 earths days and the Earth 365 days. They did to figure out when Mars was closest to Earth. Curiosity was launched from Cape Canaveral. Stage one, it reaches space and the tip of the cone opens and fall off. Case Study : Jaguar Land Rover Jaguar Land Rover ("JLR") is a multinational manufacturer of automobiles with complex history and had struggled in producing quality products in the past (some would argue the struggle continues). The original design of the flagship automobile was done in 1947 for the Rover Company, which was taken over by British Leyland Motor Corporation and was incorporated as Land Rover in 1978. In 2002, Ford Motor Company united Jaguar and Land Rover under one entity, which is today owned by Tata Motors. The company manufactures automobiles ranging from super– charged sports coupes to very capable off–road vehicles including military grade models for British and Australian army. Southwest Airlines ("SW") is an airline that has focused on customer service. SW was selected because of the process it has in place for training its employees and support for its customers. The process in place for hiring and training its employees is one of the most important aspects of SW's success. Operating since 1971, SW is a bit of a newcomer to the airline industry with their headquarters in Dallas, Texas. SW operates about 3,900 flights per day with employing more than 49,000 employees. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) launched two similar twin robotic rovers which were Spirit and Opportunity toward Mars on 10 June and 7 July 2003 (NASA 2012). Spirit and Opportunity landed in Gusev Crater on 4 January 2004 and in Meridiani Planum on 25 January 2004 respectively (NASA 2012). Opportunity is still operating and roving after 10 years on the Martian surface while final communication of Spirit to the Earth took place on 22 March 2010, which is around six years into its mission (NASA 2012). The rovers were thought to last 20 times longer as compared to its original design. As part of NASA's Mars Exploration Program, the Mars Exploration Rover mission is a continuous multi–mission effort to study Mars as a possible habitation for past or present life and to look for signs of life as well as to prepare for human exploration. Primary objective of the Mars Exploration Rover mission is to explore and characterize a wide range of soils and rocks that possess clues or evidences to past water activity on Mars (NASA 2012). It is hard to get to Mars and it is even harder to land on Mars, thus Spirit and Opportunity had to overcome numerous challenges in order to land on Mars and to carry out their missions. These two rovers were required to fly through approximately 483 million kilometers of deep space and a very precise landing spot had to be targeted (Jet Propulsion Laboratory 2011). Instead, engineers came up with a maneuver that would allow the craft carrying Curiosity to turn quickly. Then, rockets would turn on and allow Curiosity to make a vertical landing. Switching from a parachute to a controlled rocket descent could have gone wrong at any time. Still, even getting the descent right was not enough to succeed. Once the parachute was cut free, the force from the rockets could raise so much dust that the dust itself could damage the rover. Always thinking ahead, the engineers came up with a solution. They created a device to complete the last step of the landing. The device was called a "sky crane." When the sky crane was close to Mars's surface, it used a set of cables to lower Curiosity onto the ground. At last Curiosity landed, going from 13,000 miles per hour to zero in just seven minutes. The capsule that had been carrying Curiosity still had all its rockets firing. It blasted back into the sky and landed somewhere else on the planet. The landing was a success.
