Air covers the whole surface of the earth and is essential for life. While invisible, it can always be felt and gives energy to living things. It is composed of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 1% other gases. Air benefits living things in several ways, including providing oxygen for breathing and combustion, nitrogen to prevent fire spreading, and keeping the earth cool through water vapor. However, air pollution is increasing and could make clean air scarce if not addressed.
