 Students learn about the importance of election, and 
Election Campaign 
 Students try to understand ‘Adult Franchise’, and 
realize the need and necessity of Election. 
 Pupil tries to give priority to voter I.D, which represents 
that the individual belong to that particular country.

 Students try to understand the importance of election and 
election campaign. 
 To understand the Adult Franchise this provides the citizen 
an opportunity to participate in the process of 
democracy. 
 To know about the importance of Election, as an inevitable 
process in democratic country. 
 To examine the voter I.D issued by the Election 
commission. 
 To analyse the notification, of the Election. 
 To examine the voter I. D issued to the Adult.

Facts: 
 At the time of election, there will be meetings and 
demonstrations throughout our country. 
 Both candidates and their campaign workers engage in 
various activities to ensure that the voters cast their 
vote. 
 The election commission conducts campaign through 
notifications in the media to make the people aware of
the significance of franchise. 
 The whole official system will function vigilantly at the 
time of election. 
 In all places in our country, the voter can’t cast his/ her 
vote freely. 
 In many regions, obstacles in the form of violence, 
threat, bogus votes, booth capturing, influencing the 
voters by giving them money etc. 
 These undemocratic activities prevent many of the 
people from exercising their right to vote. 
 Hence level of participation in the election process may 
not be the same everywhere. 
 Election is an inevitable process in any democratic 
country. 
 The people of a democratic country elect their own 
representatives directly. 
 Any Indian citizen who has completed 18 years of age can 
exercise vote in the election regardless of his/ her caste, 
creed, religion, race, community language and region. 
 Exercising of franchise provides the citizens an 
opportunity to participate in the process of democracy.

 Adult Franchise: 
Any Indian citizen who has completed 18 years of age 
can exercise vote in the election regardless of his/ her 
caste, creed, religion, race, community language and 
region. Adult franchise is the most important right 
conferred on a citizen in any democratic country. 
Exercising of franchise provides the citizens an 
opportunity to participate in the process of democracy. 
Curricular Objectives: 
 Through pictures of Election campaign, Voter I.D 
enactments of School parliament Students learn about 
the importance of election in any democratic country.

Introduction: 
Teacher interacts with students in a friendly 
manner, and asks about who is the class representative? Is 
it important to have a class leader? Why? 
 Then the teacher proceeds with further questions 
about the recent election that just we came across. 
 Having got their view Teacher shows some News 
paper cuttings related to Election campaign, 
Election before and after. 
 Teacher asks the students to observe in detail 
thereafter to highlight few points based on their 
observation. 
Activity : 1 
Teacher divides the students in 8 groups, and asks them to 
discuss the various activities on a polling day and prepare a 
report on it.

 Voting right is the most important features 
of democracy. 
 Electoral identity card is issued by the 
election commission of India.

inevitable process the teacher asks the students to discuss 
about ‘Adult Franchise’.

Teacher distributes to the students the voter I.D and asks 
them to See the picture of the electoral identity card issued 
by the election commission of India. Examine the voter 
identity card and write What are the details on it? 
Concluding Activity: 
With the help of learning materials, specially using video 
clippings the teacher summarize the entire topic. In order 
to check the understanding of the students the teacher 
asks few questions.

 What were the various activities are held on a 
polling day? 
 Why does the Election commission publish the 
notification at the time of election? 
 Who can cast vote? 
 Define Adult Franchise? 
 Can you mention different details you can identify 
in the voter I.D?

Learning Outcomes:  Students try to understand the importance of election and election campaign.  To understand the Adult Franchise this provides the citizen an opportunity to participate in the process of democracy.  To know about the importance of Election, as an inevitable process in democratic country.  To examine the voter I.D issued by the Election commission.  To analyse the notification, of the Election.  To examine the voter I. D issued to the Adult. Content Analysis. Terms: Indian citizen, Creed, Religion. Race, Community, Language, Adult Franchise, Democratic, Election, Election Campaign, Participate, Voter identity card, Adult members, Details, Official system, Candidate, Significance, obstacles, Violence, threat, bogus votes, notification, inevitable process, representatives, prescribed, extended, emergencies. Facts:  At the time of election, there will be meetings and demonstrations throughout our country.  Both candidates and their campaign workers engage in various activities to ensure that the voters cast their vote.  The election commission conducts campaign through notifications in the media to make the people aware of
  • 2. the significance of franchise.  The whole official system will function vigilantly at the time of election.  In all places in our country, the voter can’t cast his/ her vote freely.  In many regions, obstacles in the form of violence, threat, bogus votes, booth capturing, influencing the voters by giving them money etc.  These undemocratic activities prevent many of the people from exercising their right to vote.  Hence level of participation in the election process may not be the same everywhere.  Election is an inevitable process in any democratic country.  The people of a democratic country elect their own representatives directly.  Any Indian citizen who has completed 18 years of age can exercise vote in the election regardless of his/ her caste, creed, religion, race, community language and region.  Exercising of franchise provides the citizens an opportunity to participate in the process of democracy.   • 3. Class room Interaction Procedure. Response. Introduction: Teacher interacts with students in a friendly manner, and asks about who is the class representative? Is it important to have a class leader? Why?  Then the teacher proceeds with further questions about the recent election that just we came across.  Having got their view Teacher shows some News paper cuttings related to Election campaign, Election before and after.  Teacher asks the students to observe in detail thereafter to highlight few points based on their observation. Activity : 1 Teacher divides the students in 8 groups, and asks them to discuss the various activities on a polling day and prepare a report on it. Hints:  Voter Identification.  Exercising the voting right. Reflection:  Voting right is the most important features of democracy.  Electoral identity card is issued by the election commission of India. Codification:  Election is an inevitable process in any democratic country.  The people of a democratic country elect their own representatives directly.  In India people representatives, are elected directly for period of five years. In order to check the understanding of the students the teacher asks few questions. Review:  What were the various activities are held on a polling day?  Why does the Election commission publish the notification at the time of election?  Who can cast vote?  Define Adult Franchise?  Can you mention different details you can identify in the voter I.D?
