Questionnaire Analysis
By Jordan Chilton
Question 1- What type of newspaper do
you or someone in your household read?
 From the results you can clearly
see tabloid is a popular read. This
could be down to the gossip and
rumours journalists tend to write
about. The news is usually quite
sensational and attracts a large
audience. As you can also see
broadsheet and local newspaper
are popular, this is good results as
there are a range of results. It also
gives me great confidence in
making a local newspaper as I
know people will want to read it.
Question 2- How often do you or someone in
your family buy a newspaper?
 This questions helps you on the
content to put in my newspaper. As
story content is forever changing
from day to day. So the editor of
Telegraph whom we met, told us
he makes a weekly edition he then
told us content is placed in
reference to the importance and
what will attract the reader more.
Question 3- What content do you enjoy
reading the most (e.g. crime stories, sport,
jobs, weather)?
 As you can see sport and crime
stories were the most popular in
my questionnaire. My initial ideas
were to include a sport story as
minor story, and either a local
interest or crime story as my major
front page story. I am still yet to
have a definite answer but my
questionnaire gave me ideas and
confidence in going forward with
my initial ideas.
Question 4-In your opinion what age range do
you think read newspapers the most, please
state below
 I had a mass range of ages through
my survey answers. The most
popular ages were between 30-50,
I support this completely as mostly
middle age men and women are
stereotypical readers of
newspapers. Although when I met
with the editor of our local
telegraph he actually told me they
don’t have a specific target age
range. I have decided to target my
newspaper at the age range of 30-
50.
Question 5- Do you prefer a colour or
non-colourful layout?
 All the answer I received were
answered colour. I do not agree
with this as conventionally
newspaper tend to lack colours. So
I am going against my
questionnaire, and will use very
little colour. The answers were
sent to a much younger audience
than my specific target audience,
so the answer I received would
have been from a younger
perspective.
Question 6- With regards to layout would you
prefer more writing or more images on the front
page? Give reasons why?
 The majority of my responses were
to have more images. I agree with
putting plenty of images but I
believe the purpose of a
newspaper is more about reading.
So I will be placing more writing in
my work, but I will also be backing
a huge powerful image to attract
my readers to the story. I agree
with the front page being a big
image and some writing, as plenty
of the Telegraph copies we
received tend to use an image
covering majority of the page with
a few paragraphs.
Question 7-What kind of advertising supplements do you
mostly prefer to see (e.g. days out, properties,
fundraisers, festivals). Please state your choice below:
 As you can see there is a range of
answers. Which will aid my
planning for my product. My initial
ideas from my survey is to include
days out/tourist attractions,
holidays or properties. Festivals
are not very popular in my region
therefore I will not be choosing
this.
Question 8- How much would you pay
for a newspaper, give price:
 I got a range of answers in my
survey, the most common price
were 50p-£1. I agree this is a
reasonable price for a weekly
newspaper. If it was to be daily I
think below 50p would be
acceptable. As it is a local
newspaper you want to make a
price suitable for the type of
people in your region.
