1. A look into representation and linking it
to my magazine
2. Is how a “thing” for example a person, place
or object is presented to an audience. This is a
‘representation’ as the thing that has been
through a process of modification, mediation
and selection before being presented.
3. Representation is used in many different
ways in this magazine. Laura Mulvey’s
theory is that all women are presented in a
sexually attractive way in magazines for the
men but in this magazine it goes against
this stereotype as the male is presented in
this way. Such as the pull quote talks about
abs which is sexually eye-catching for the
woman. The overall ideology that I get from
this magazine is very light hearted and it
just gives a sense of fun, gossip, looking
good, reality shows, all of its not taken
seriously. Dominant reading of this text is
intended to make you have fun, look good
when going out and find out more about
your role models/icons; I got this view from
the cover lines (“Hot Party Looks” and “how
to deal with boys & bullies”) as they give
off a positive vibe to their teenage target
audience. The oppositional reading I get
from this is that it is too sexual for the
target audience as it has things showing you
how to look good, how your physique should
be and topless images of boys.
