We support Carers by providing regular short spells of respite care to their dependant relative in their own home. This enables the Carer to have some personal quality time and a break from their caring responsibilities. This care is provided by Police Checked Support Workers, who offer a skilled, flexible, practical, and responsive care.

2. The big picture
We currently sit with a lady who is in her early 70’s and whom is looked after by her
partner in Bolsover. The lady has early on-set dementia and is unable to be left alone at
all, therefore making it increasingly difficult for her partner to carry out every day tasks
such as having a bath, shopping and cleaning etc. The lady attends Day Care twice a
week but the other 5 days her partner has to be supervising her 24 hours a day. We
provide a Sitting Service of 3 hours per week in order for this gentleman to go and have a
bath in peace or to do the weekly shopping. Our Service has been invaluable to him
especially over the past few weeks when her Day Care has been cancelled due to the bad
weather. As he stated to us it is alright to pull the plug on his day care which happened for
4 continuous weeks, but he was climbing the walls as he was so desperate for a break
from her. Due to the dedication of the staff at the Carers Sitting Service this gentleman
was able to have our service through this bad weather and he was very emotional when
expressing how much this meant to him as these 3 hours per week were his only break
from her at this time. He stated ‘Our service is in-valuable to him and when we say we
care and are the Carers Sitting Service then we really do care’.
