To whom it may concern
I was posted to Belize in September 2005 for 3-4 months as interim manager for Johnston
International, John Barrington was involved in two projects, firstly the completion of a
project at Stan Creek for the Government of Belize, the project was behind in many
area’s as a result of local labour problems, John immediately addressed these gained the
respect of the operatives, motivated them, worked with them and managed to bring the
project to a successful completion in 3 weeks which was an incredible achievement.
The next project involved the refurbishment of a villa on Cayo Espanto, this was a small
island of the coast of Belize only accessible by boat, there was a very tight programme of
12 weeks to carry out the $300,000 project, unfortunately no pre – ordering of labour or
materials had been carried out. John immediately took this in his stride, sourced local
labour from a neighboring islands and the mainland, whilst arranging for the surveyor to
source materials. The project although small, l required considerable effort on john’s
part, the client being on the island all the time, the other 4 villas on the tiny island were
occupied by guests paying $1000 a night, the Architect was in the states and the project
manager in the UK . The scope of the project increased and work was carried out on the
other villas in the vacant periods, often this was at short notice with windows of 3-5 days
for carrying out the works. The value of the works was increase by $100,000 and was
completed in 16 weeks.
I would recommend John as a hard working manager, has the ability to overcome
problems and is able to motivate and achieve the best out of people on site, he is not one
for sitting in the office, he is at his best at the work face.
