2. Philosophical Approaches to Development
Original Sin: It taught that all humans are born with a
selfish and stubborn nature and to over come this you
should lead a discipline life.
The blank Slate: A philosopher John Locke claimed
that the mind of a child is a blank slate and adults can
mould the mind of a child to what they want.
Innate Goodness: Jean-Jacques Rousseau, He
clamid that all human beings are naturally good and
seek out experiences that help them to grow.
3. The Domains of
Development
Physical Domains is the changes in the size,
shape and characteristics of the body.
Cognitive Domains is the changes in thinking,
memory, problem solving and other intellectual
skills.
Social Domains is the changes in variable that
are associated with the relationship of an
individual to others.
4. Age Related Changes
Cross-Sectional: Different age groups studied
at one time.
Strengths: It has quick access to the data
collected from the different age groups.
Limitations: Since it only focuses on groups it
ignores the individuals.
5. Longitudinal: One group studied several
different times.
Strengths: It tracks the development from the
individuals and the groups.
Limitations: Its very time consuming because
it takes place over a long time.
6. Sequential: A combination between both
longitudinal and cross-sectional.
Strengths: Since it a combination it takes the
strengths from both cross-sectional and
longitudinal.
Limitations: It is also time consuming, it has
different attritions rates across the multiple
groups.
7. What effects me personally
We all go through the same steps of
development, some at different passes. I for
one grew up very fast, I was the tallest in all
my classes until the sixth grade when a few of
the boys started hitting growth spurts. Its one
of my physical domains and how the body
works.
8. How these will benefit me.
After leaning these things I can say that I have
learned more about myself and how my body
and brain will grow. I have learned more about
my brain and how the different part work.
9. What can be useful in life?
Pregnancy First Trimester
(LMP to 12weeks) : When
the zygote implants itself in
the woman’s uterus. The
mother starts having
morning sickness, missed
period, breast enlargement
and are at the greatest risk
of miscarriage, this is
important to an expecting
mother because she can
be at risk.
10. The Second Trimester ( 12weeks to
24weeks); The women begins to gain weight
more quickly as the uterus expands. At this
stage the mother can start to feel the fetus
move, as well as an increased appetite.
11. The Third Trimester ( 25 weeks) The mother
continues gaining weight and abdominal
enlargement, And at this stage the mother
begins to feel an emotional connection to the
fetus. This is an important stage for the
mother because they can have life-
threatening condition (Toxemia) by a sudden
increase in blood pressure.
12. Things to be aware of when
pregnant
When you are pregnant its very important that
you take frequent trips to see your doctor, if
you don’t the events that can happen during
pregnancy, you could be putting your baby at
risk. Its important to get a Ultrasound
monthly/weekly to see how the child it doing.
13. Nutrition
Nutrition is an important
part of our development
and the right that we grow.
There are many children in
the world today that don’t
have a good diet. There
are many reasons for a
bad diet.
14. One reason that children don’t have a good
diet is because they aren't getting enough
physical activity. They are becoming to
focused to electronics and are not outside
enough.
Another reason for poor diet is that the
children eat what the parent provide. So if the
parents are already over height then the child
will too. If they can’t afford to pay for healthy
food they pay what they can no matter how it
effects the body.
