2. Introduction :
System of forces :
o A force system is a collection of forces acting at specified locations. Thus
the set of forces shown on any free body diagram make up a Force System.
o“Force System is simply a term used to describe a group of forces.”
Or
When several forces act on a body, then they are called a force system or a
system of forces.

4. Types of Force Systems :
1. Coplanar : Forces lie in the same plane.
• Concurrent : Forces meet at a single point.
• Non-concurrent : Forces act at a different points.
• Collinear : Forces having a common line of action
• Parallel : Forces that never intersects each other
2. Non-coplanar Forces : Forces lie in different plane.
• Parallel : Not in a same plane and never intersect each other.
• Concurrent : Acting at a same point but not from a same plane.
• Non-concurrent : Not acting at a same point and not from a same plane.

6. Graphical Methods of Analysis :
Free Body Diagram (FBD): Isolate the body and showing all
acting forces with arrows, direction and magnitude.
Polygon of Forces : Representing each force as a vector side in a
closed polygon. Equilibrium condition :Vector sum zero.
Scale Diagram : Represent forces by proportional line segments.
Useful for quick visual analysis.

7. Applications of System of Forces Analysis :
• Structural Engineering : Analyze bridge loads, building stability, etc.
• Machine Design : Calculate forces on gears, levers, and other components.
• Biomechanics : Study muscle forces and joint movement in human body.
• Aerospace Engineering : Analyze forces on airplanes, rockets, and satellites.
7
8. Conclusion :
• The other types of forces are gravitational forces, frictional forces etc.
• System of forces analysis plays a crucial role in mechanical engineering. It
helps in the design of machines and mechanisms by considering the forces
acting on various planes
