An Introduction to Globalization Essay
Globalization is a historical phenomenon that has been happening for decades now, and whether it
generates growth or not is a matter of whose point of view it is. The western countries, especially
America and some European nations, are the ones taking full advantage of the benefits of
globalization. On the other hand, some experts say that globalization is not doing much for the
developing countries, or that it may be even worsening their scenarios of poverty and social
inequality. But, I will get back to that later . The point is that globalization, while it was primarily
triggered by the emergence of a global market and facilitated by the democratization of
communication technologies, also caused cultural, social and even political...show more content...
We are in the era of free information flow and democratization of communication tools. Through the
Internet, people are able to produce content and distribute it in many different ways to infinite
different people. What is really amazing is that the idea of distance lost its significance. Now, you
are able to communicate from your house in the south of Brazil with friends who live in India,
America or any other place in the world. Messages are overcoming huge distances because of
technological improvements and the implementation of global networks. The third movement is
political. Basically, it means that since globalization implies a compression of national boundaries,
which were brought about by the increase of trade at the global level, the importance of both the
activity of international legal institutions and treats, like the World Trade Organization, and the
dialogue between political leaders of different nations has risen significantly. Also, in the globalized
world we see a quite interesting phenomenon: the importance given by nations' leaders to their
self–image in the international political scene. Think this way: when countries were not dependent
on the businesses they had with other countries why would presidents bother to be admired by other
national leaders? What we see now is a scenario where nations' leaders struggle for status among the
international political elite. The last set

Greed Essay
The Bible classifies the seven deadly sins – greed, envy, sloth, wrath, gluttony, pride and lust– as the
characteristics of people which will lead to unhappiness. One particular sin evident in our world
today is greed. Greed is defined as an excessive desire to possess wealth or goods. The greed that
exists in our world leads people to unhappy and selfish lives. Greed is evident through individual
people, corporate companies and in our governments.
The desire to be successful and happy naturally exists in all people. Success is often associated with
the acquisition of wealth and material goods. When an individual feels that money and goods will
bring them happiness in their lives, they will become more and more determined to...show more

When a person uses another to gain money, power or goods, it is self–centered. These television
shows are based around bringing together two people who have never met in the past, based on
the fact that one of the two individuals have money. Choosing to be in a relationship on the basis
that the later has money will lead to unhappiness. With no love and only money keeping the two
connected, in time things will become difficult. (Poniewozik) Countless couples who participate in
these television shows do not last more then a year before realizing that the money is not worth
being with somebody you do not love or get along with. While individual people who are taken
over with greed usually affect smaller portions of the population, the more power a greedy person
has, the more people are affected. This idea is shown with the Nike Corporation.
Time and time again, there are stories of dishonest companies who take advantage of the fact that
they have money, try to create more wealth and subsequently forget their workers well being.
Although they have more then enough money, greed takes over and good morals are overlooked.
Nike, a popular sports brand, makes billions of dollars a year selling various products. To
manufacture them, Nike has created many sweatshops throughout the world. Although they can
definitely afford to pay their workers fairly, it has been found that these workers,

Immigrants and Assimilation into American Society
Several years ago, America was taught to be a 'melting pot,' a place where immigrants of
different cultures or races form an integrated society, but now America is more of a 'salad bowl'
where instead of forming an incorporated entity the people who make up the bowl are unwilling to
unite as one. America started as an immigrant nation and has continued to be so. People all over
the world come to America for several reasons. Most people come to America voluntarily, but very
few come unwillingly. For whatever reasons they may have for coming they all have to face
exposure to American society. When exposed to this 'new' society they choose whether to assimilate
or not. Assimilation...show more content...
Another reason is that children learn a language by imitating the sounds they hear (mimicry)
without an accent. This enables children to obtain a correct diction. Here a child has a positive
experience and is able to assimilate with ease. On the other hand, an elderly person will find the
learning process a challenge and to a certain extent the situation might even be so burdensome that
one loses interest in learning. In Amy Tan?s speech My Mother?s English, she explains the
difficulties her mother faced because she (Tan?s mother) was unable to clearly express herself. She
(Tan) also felt the effects of this as a child. Not only did Tan?s mother find speaking English a
barrier in the process of assimilation, but Tan herself felt her mother limited her perception (Tan
45). Since Tan?s mother was unable to speak English properly people would not give her good
service and would not treat her seriously even to the extant that people ?pretended not to understand
her or even acted as if they did not hear her,?(Tan 45). This is just one example of many that shows
how some people have had negative experiences assimilating into American society.
Language is not the only factor affecting the assimilation of people into American society, but one?s
traditions also have an effect on the willingness and on the degree to which one assimilates. Some
people have found that certain customs they have are not accepted in American culture and might

Persuasive Essay On Charter Schools
Open to all children, free of tuition, and does not have special entrance requirements, charter schools
believe that children should have the opportunity to achieve at a high level. When creating charter
schools, they focused on a desire to create greater flexibility for innovation within public education.
It was hoped that successful innovations could be adapted to benefit public education more broadly.
(NEA, 2017). Charter schools also, foster partnership between parents, teachers, and students in
hopes of creating an environment in which parents can be more involved, teachers are allowed to
innovate, and students are provided with structure they need to learn.
Unlike public schools, charter schools believe that smaller class sizes are important to student
learning. According to Homeschooling "Pros and Cons of Charter Schools" article, "Rather than
having a student attend a public school where students will be one among thirty to thirty–five other
pupils, charter school students will be one of twelve, sometimes fifteen other students" (2017). In a
classroom with many students, a teacher may not have the ability to spend sufficient quality time
one–on–one with every student . This may result in teachers having more of a challenge in
motivating each student and encouraging students individually. The teacher may not have the time
to recognize each student's particular challenges, passions, and talents (Homeschooling, 2017 ). In
addition, according to EF Academy's "10

Hook Feminism Essay
Feminism is for everyone explains the emotional encounters of the struggles and challenges faced by
the feminist movement. The experiences of the feminist movement helped shaped a strong case that
the inclusion of men is required within the movement. One main goal of the feminist movement is to
end all forms of sexism, sexist exploitations, and oppression (Hook). The key argument that Hook
makes throughout her novel is that feminism is about creating a world free of sexism. The only way
to make this possible is by having both males and females fight to end sexist causes.
The patriarchal society is based on powers in relationships–whether that power is men over women,
bosses over their workers and even parents over their children. Relationships

Informative Essay Hook
Pinkston, Anna Dr. Jeff Newberry ENGL 1101H August 26, 2017 As my ninth
–grade English
teacher, Mrs. Newton would say, without a good hook to start your essay, no one will ever read
it. As I was taught, a hook is a crucial part in your essay because it will help grab the audience's
attention so that they will continue to be invested throughout the paper. For example, the hook
could be a question or a quote about the overall topic of your essay. In my junior year, we had to
do a controversial essay and I used a quote from a famous tattoo artist as my hook because I did my
essay over tattoos and piercings. After the hook, the introduction begins to take form and show the
audience what your essay is about. The introduction is the first thing in your essay that will tell the
audience what the essay is about. The introduction paragraph should be as interesting as the initial
hook and keep the audience invested in the paper. It will establish the basis of the essay and should
contain the thesis statement. The thesis statement is the point in your essay where you will state the
topics that the essay will contain. In high school, we were taught that the thesis should contain the
three points that you will elaborate upon in your three body paragraphs: the weakest point, the
middle point, and the strongest point. The first body paragraph should be the weakest or simplest
way to get the overall point of the essay across to the readers. This will be the foundation of all three
points,

Nature And Nature : My Relationship With Nature
For as long as I can remember, the outdoors has always been a place where I can go to find myself
again. It is a place where I can be whatever I want, a place where there are no rules, no family and
no friends. Well, sometimes there are friends, but most of the time it's just me and the trees.
When I was child, all I ever wanted to do was climb a tree to the very tip top to maybe, just maybe,
touch a cloud. Now I know that's far out of reach, but back then I thought I could do it and
thought that there was nothing in my way except for a couple of limbs. How easy is that? It's
basically like climbing a ladder. Outdoors, to me, is a magical place where I can be, do and see
whatever I want and there's no one there to tell me I can't. Outdoors has always been a place where
I can just relax and forget about the world around me for just that one moment.
Over time my appreciation for outdoors has matured greatly. I love listening to the sound of the
raindrops splattering across the roof or the site of the snowflakes falling past the leafless trees. In
this essay, I'm going to define my relationship with nature. I'm going to tell about my experiences
and how much I personally love Mother Nature. My relationship with nature can only be defined
as a place for me to explore God's creation without any judgment. Nature is a place where I can go
and forget about my everyday life, a place where there is no responsibility weighing down my
shoulders. I can be, do and go where I

greasers. The Outsiders is a good story by S.E. Hinton that shows the struggles of growing up
Hinton did a fine job with the character development, the plot, and the theme with a few flaws. The
Outsiders is a book that changed the style of young adult writers because it went off from the genre

The fact that all three boys were still moving on without their parents showed that they had a lot
of heart. The two main divisions were between the Greasers and the Socs, and this rivalry led to
many conflicts in the book. Hinton illustrates the divisions and fighting in this quote, "They
caught him and one of them had a lot of rings on his hand that's what had cut Johnny up so badly"
(Hinton 33). Johnny was attacked by four Socs when he was playing with a football at the park.
There are many times in the book where Socs attacked Greasers that were walking alone. Howard
explains the divisions and violence of the gangs in this quote, "Tulsa was one of many American
cities that had seen an increasing division between social classes since World War II, and the
animosity between Greasers and Socs gangs illustrated the extent to which this division between
social classes had permeated society" (Howard 28). The Greasers were seen as the poor outcast
while the Socs were the popular one with all the money. The Socs provoke the Greasers by saying
hurtful things and attacking them so both gangs feel the need to fight to prove that they are better.
Hinton did a good job of portraying the violence and building up to these points and this keeps the
reader interested in the book. There are many critics and parents who were outraged about the
violence that takes place in the book. This quote by Hinton demonstrates the harsh violence, "I

Essay about Suicide
Someone, somewhere, commits suicide every 18 minutes. You might never be able to tell who it
will be, it could be the person sitting right next . Statistics reveal that approximately three million
youths, between 12–18, have either thought about or attempted suicide in the past year. More than 1
/3, actually succeeded.
Only in the past two decades, have depression and suicide been taken seriously. Depression is an
illness that involves the body, mood and thoughts. Depression affects the way a person eats and
sleeps, feels about themselves, and the way they think of the things around them. It comes as no
surprise to discover that adolescent depression is strongly linked to teen suicide. Adolescent suicide

Adolescence is a stressful experience for all teens. It is a time of physical and social changes
producing rapid mood swings from sadness to elation. Even an emotionally healthy teenager may
have the constant fear of not being good enough, not making the varsity team, or getting good
grades. Special situations such as a parents divorce can trigger intense sadness and feelings of
wanting to die.
People who usually experience depression, can seem fine. But there are many key signs to show that
they are depressed. Such as, change in school performance, eating habits change, constant
unhappiness, low self esteem, guilt, social isolation, inability to concentrate, irritable or angered
easily, or has a severe lost of energy.
For a teen suffering from severe depression, has feelings of worthlessness that dominates their day.
Despair is ever present and emotional pain feels like it will never end. Any situation of anger or
disappointment may cause the teen to cross the line from wanting to die, to actually trying to kill
themselves.
Many of them feel pains inside of them, that they can't describe when someone asks them how they
feel. They just know that they are sad, or angry, or upset. Many teenagers will try to communicate
their pains through

Reactions to Hooks' Feminism is for Everybody
I am not a feminist simply because I was raised in a feminist household. I am not a feminist
because I am an independent, educated woman. I am not a feminist because I am a bitter female,
nor because I am a "woman scorned." I am not a feminist because I hate men, nor because I am a
lesbian nor because I like to listen to the Indigo Girls. To the contrary I love men and I am not a
lesbian. While I agree with hooks that "feminism is a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation,
and oppression" (viii), I believe that her definition of "feminism" states the goals of the movement
rather than actually defining the term itself. In my mind, feminism is a synonym for equality. I am a

While sexism is no longer as overt a practice as in the past, it is arguably just as pervasive. bell
hooks' life as an academic has been spent trying to breakdown the existent sexist barriers, which have
prohibited women from achieving equality with men.
In Feminism is for Everybody, hooks introduces a popular theory of feminism rooted in common
sense and the wisdom of her own personal experience. In my opinion, hooks' book is perfectly
poised to become THE OFFICIAL "handbook" or "cliff notes" to feminism. Although it's short,
Feminism is for Everybody is powerful. It addresses all of the most prevalent issues facing the
contemporary feminist movement, everything from where feminism stands, reproductive choice,
beauty, violence, race, class, work, all the way to where feminism will go in the future. She uses
simple, direct language to express complex issues. However, that is not to say that she
"dumbs–down" such topics. Rather, she makes them more comprehensible to those not as familiar
with feminism as a discipline. This book offers everyone (man or woman) a chance to explore
feminism. It serves as an eye–opener to all those "would be" feminists who are afraid to label
themselves as such for fear of being called a man hater or worse, a lesbian! She dispels these myths
and others, forcing her audience

Love is a virtue. Especially in the context of romantic love. It is a mutual deep affection that instills
both partners with the feeling of happiness, a sense of safety, and unity. These feelings however,
originate as neurotransmitters. Chemical substances traveling between synapses providing us the
feeling we know as – love. Similarly, the way we feel about love has just as much to do with
understanding it's biological origins. Understanding its purpose, form, and delicate mental
infrastructure are keys to interpreting its meaning...show more content...
Isolation psychosocial phase. This phase lasts between the ages of 18 up to 40, the longest range
out of any stage. According to Erikson, one can live a life of fulfillment if one acquires all the
virtues throughout all the psychosocial stages in life. Virtues include hope, will, purpose,
competency, fidelity, love, care, and wisdom. Erikson proposes that we pose a major existential
question to ourselves between this age range (18–40) and that question is " Can I love?" As soon as
this question is spawned, then a battle between intimacy and isolation begins. In other words,
Erikson believes that the reason why we engage in love–type behavior is to avoid the negative
feelings associated with isolation. According to evolutionary psychologist Richard Dawkin, he
proposes that the psychology behind love lyes all in the evolutionary need to be in a group setting
and to, frankly, propitiate the human species (Dawkins et al., 2016). For Dawkins, the need to
engage in love type behavior is similar to Erikson in the sense that we are avoiding isolation, but
Richard's hypothesis revolves more around the benefit of being in a group. The idea is the more
isolated one is (in neanderthal ages) more likely that person is to perish. Additionally, Dawkins
suggests that love is an evolutionary hardwiring that helps us propitiate the human species. Lastly,
according to psychologist Sandra Langelslag, we engage in

How Fashion Has Changed Over Time Essay
The Reason Why Aspect of Pop Culture has Change over Time
Fashion is the habitual practice of style with which a person dresses. Fashion is the aspect of Pop
culture. Fashion is not just cloths, it is also shoes, jewelry and hair styles. As the thoughts of people
changes, so as the trend of fashion changes over time. Fashion is an essential part of everyone's life
and an important part of society. The beautification of fashion is what explains and reflects to
people who we are. Clothing has changed in many ways over the years. Fashion can be used
identification of people. A country may be known for a particular type of dress code. For
example, people can get a description of who you are based on what you are wearing at the time.
During the 18th and 19th century, women wore clothes that cover most part of the body, but there
have been a lot of changes on that due to changes in fashion. Fashion can be used by different
people to place them into a group. For example, people wearing expensive clothes may distinguish
themselves from other groups. Today fashion designer have made a lot of changes to fashion and

The most obvious candidate for terraforming, the transforming of a planet to be able to support
human life, would be Mars. Even without terraforming, The Red Planet would be a great choice to
colonize because of how close it is to Earth. Constant communication, supply shuttles, and
potentially traveling back and forth between planets would all be possible because of how much
closer Mars is to Earth than all other colonization candidates. Furthermore, combining the discovery
of water on Mars and an abundance of, "...many industrially useful minerals for construction and
manufacturing purposes" creates a seemingly great potential home for humans (David). Except, the
only problem is that Mars is currently unlivable. This is where terraforming comes in. There are
various proposed methods for terraforming Mars, but for the most part, they all start with melting
the planet's ice caps and warming the planet's atmosphere by introducing various gases to create
breathable air. The new gases then thicken the atmosphere to protect from solar radiation
(Williams). There are also bacteria called Deinococcus Radiodurans that could possibly be
genetically engineered to detoxify soil on Mars (Slotnick 124–125). If this bacteria can be correctly
engineered, Deinococcus Radiodurans would likely provide a faster way to create detoxified soil
than waiting around for the atmosphere to detoxify it; therefore, being a huge step forward in the
effort to terraform Mars. The major setback to the idea of terraforming is how long it will take. The
actual estimates for the length of time it will take to make Mars completely human–safe vary
between a couple of quick centuries to millions of years (Williams). In addition to length,
terraforming would also require a staggering amount of greenhouse gases from Earth. Not only
would the gases have to be

Bell Hooks's Education
bell hooks, American feminist writer and literary critic, once said, "The classroom, with all its
limitations, remains a location of possibility." Even when she wrote these words over 20 years ago
in 1994, there was a clear, unsullied idea of what a child's education should be composed
ofв”Ђpossibilities. In the time of hooks' writing, America's people were being tested on their
strength as the deindustrialization of major cities occurred, leaving most of the factory workers
without money and homeless. After Reagan left office, there was an abundance to clean up. The
country's people were trying to create possibilities that might work out. The American school system

We see constant disparities in funding within our school system between class and between race.
Because of this, we need to regulate the funding between the "good school bad school poor
school rich school" paradigm. Why aren't there already laws permitting and enforcing equal
funding? In the ruling of Rodriguez vs. San Antonio Independent School district, it was found
that even if it was completely morally ethical, laws against or for inequitable funding are not in
the constitution and therefore it cannot be ruled upon in the high court. So, even if two schools
in the same district are within a 10,000 dollars funding difference, a pupil cannot do anything
about it because it doesn't say anything about it in the constitution. States in the deep south, like
Texas and Alabama, get the least funding, says a study done by the National Law Center for
Education. The U.S. average for funding per state is $10,132 for one pupil. Tennessee's money
spent per pupil is $6,839. Also, Tennessee has one of the lowest GDPs and its education effort is
one of the lowest. Why is this? Because Tennessee still didn't take advantage of its fiscal capacity,
and that's why it received an F on the effort scale. In a study done by Education Trust, it said that
there is a 1,200 dollar gap between the districts with the most poverty and the districts with the least

Essay about Teen Suicide
In today's society, teenagers are faced with problems on a daily basis. When they are unable to deal
with those daily hassles, serious problems can develop within the teen that can ultimately lead to
resulting effects including depression or even suicide. Suicide in teens is one of the most traumatic
and problematic issues that we face today in not only adults but many adolescents as well. Today
suicide is one of the top causes for death in teenagers, out shadowed only by homicides and
accidents. Some of the top "accidents" include drug overdoses, single–car accidents, self–inflicted
gunshot wounds, falls from bridges and buildings, and self–poisonings. Some youth suicide analysts

That change to the though process is called a "mental block" (Schleifer 29). When faced with a
mental block the teen feels as if all hope is lost. Certain individuals who are very emotional and
have difficulty dealing with stress are referred to by researchers as being in a state of emotional
dysregulation. Emotional dysregulation has been associated with child abuse and other traumatic
experiences (Lezine 61).
Noticeable physical effects of a suicidal person include abuse of drugs or alcohol. Abusing drugs
affects the chemical balance in the brain and strengthens the feelings of loneliness and sadness.
Once or if the teen decides to stop using drugs or alcohol as a solution to their problem a new
complication arises. Withdrawal from drugs or alcohol also intensifies the feeling of being
hopelessness (Teen Drug Abuse). Another physical difference in a suicidal teenager is the brain
itself. Researchers have studied the relationship between serotonin levels in the brain and the chance
of suicide in an individual. "The researchers found that the suicide victims' brains contained fewer
release sites for serotonin and more sites to receive serotonin than did the brains of normal subjects.
This research strengthens the theory that the serotonin system is related to self–murder" (Francis 25).
The social effects on suicide have a

Nyx represents the night. Being born from Chaos she is among the oldest of the gods. She also

Hooks's Struggle For Equality
The most important point that I learn through this quarter is the definition of feminism. Before the
class, I thought that feminism means equal right, which means that women should have the same
rights in politics, employment, education and many others aspects as men have. However, through
learning, especially through reading about hooks's essay, I then realize that this definition, which
limited feminism to "equal rights", is not complete and inclusive enough to describe goals of all
women, no matter the race, age, and class, around the world. hooks tells me that "Women in lower
class and poor groups" "would not have defined women's liberation as women gaining social
equality with men" since lower–class women do not share equal rights as

Effects Of Gaming On Mental Health
The Effects of Gaming on a Person's Health
The effects of gaming on a person is a controversial issue. Many people believe that it is a bad
influence, but there is also evidence that games can have positive effects on a person's health.
Many studies have been done into the topic of the effects of video games on a person. The findings
show that video games have a positive effect on a person's mental and social health and have many
unrelated health benefits. The biggest type of health that video games affect is a person's mental and
emotional health. Studies show that video games have positive effects on mental health. In the study
"Is Time Spent Playing Video Games Associated with Mental health, Cognitive and Social Skills in
Young Children?" it was found that video games have positive effects on mental health. Viviane
Kowess–Masfety et al. say "The results of the present study suggest that video game use is not
associated with an increased risk of mental health problems. On the contrary, the data presented
here suggest that video games are a protective factor" (356). Isabela Granic et al. discusses the
effects video games have on emotions and mood and how these affect mental health. They say,
"Several studies have shown a causal relation between playing preferred video games and improved
mood or increases in positive emotion" (71). The improvement to mood and emotions can have
many positive effects to mental health. One example comes from the puzzle genre of games. The

ever before. Through technology, people have the power to stay in touch with friends all over the
world, create new friendships with people who share similar interests, and feel closer to the friends
we already have. Thanks to technology, people are able to stay in contact with each other no matter
where they are in the world. On page 18 of Scope...show more content...

  • 1. An Introduction to Globalization Essay Globalization is a historical phenomenon that has been happening for decades now, and whether it generates growth or not is a matter of whose point of view it is. The western countries, especially America and some European nations, are the ones taking full advantage of the benefits of globalization. On the other hand, some experts say that globalization is not doing much for the developing countries, or that it may be even worsening their scenarios of poverty and social inequality. But, I will get back to that later . The point is that globalization, while it was primarily triggered by the emergence of a global market and facilitated by the democratization of communication technologies, also caused cultural, social and even political...show more content... We are in the era of free information flow and democratization of communication tools. Through the Internet, people are able to produce content and distribute it in many different ways to infinite different people. What is really amazing is that the idea of distance lost its significance. Now, you are able to communicate from your house in the south of Brazil with friends who live in India, America or any other place in the world. Messages are overcoming huge distances because of technological improvements and the implementation of global networks. The third movement is political. Basically, it means that since globalization implies a compression of national boundaries, which were brought about by the increase of trade at the global level, the importance of both the activity of international legal institutions and treats, like the World Trade Organization, and the dialogue between political leaders of different nations has risen significantly. Also, in the globalized world we see a quite interesting phenomenon: the importance given by nations' leaders to their self–image in the international political scene. Think this way: when countries were not dependent on the businesses they had with other countries why would presidents bother to be admired by other national leaders? What we see now is a scenario where nations' leaders struggle for status among the international political elite. The last set Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Greed Essay The Bible classifies the seven deadly sins – greed, envy, sloth, wrath, gluttony, pride and lust– as the characteristics of people which will lead to unhappiness. One particular sin evident in our world today is greed. Greed is defined as an excessive desire to possess wealth or goods. The greed that exists in our world leads people to unhappy and selfish lives. Greed is evident through individual people, corporate companies and in our governments. The desire to be successful and happy naturally exists in all people. Success is often associated with the acquisition of wealth and material goods. When an individual feels that money and goods will bring them happiness in their lives, they will become more and more determined to...show more content... When a person uses another to gain money, power or goods, it is self–centered. These television shows are based around bringing together two people who have never met in the past, based on the fact that one of the two individuals have money. Choosing to be in a relationship on the basis that the later has money will lead to unhappiness. With no love and only money keeping the two connected, in time things will become difficult. (Poniewozik) Countless couples who participate in these television shows do not last more then a year before realizing that the money is not worth being with somebody you do not love or get along with. While individual people who are taken over with greed usually affect smaller portions of the population, the more power a greedy person has, the more people are affected. This idea is shown with the Nike Corporation. Time and time again, there are stories of dishonest companies who take advantage of the fact that they have money, try to create more wealth and subsequently forget their workers well being. Although they have more then enough money, greed takes over and good morals are overlooked. Nike, a popular sports brand, makes billions of dollars a year selling various products. To manufacture them, Nike has created many sweatshops throughout the world. Although they can definitely afford to pay their workers fairly, it has been found that these workers, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Immigrants and Assimilation into American Society Several years ago, America was taught to be a 'melting pot,' a place where immigrants of different cultures or races form an integrated society, but now America is more of a 'salad bowl' where instead of forming an incorporated entity the people who make up the bowl are unwilling to unite as one. America started as an immigrant nation and has continued to be so. People all over the world come to America for several reasons. Most people come to America voluntarily, but very few come unwillingly. For whatever reasons they may have for coming they all have to face exposure to American society. When exposed to this 'new' society they choose whether to assimilate or not. Assimilation...show more content... Another reason is that children learn a language by imitating the sounds they hear (mimicry) without an accent. This enables children to obtain a correct diction. Here a child has a positive experience and is able to assimilate with ease. On the other hand, an elderly person will find the learning process a challenge and to a certain extent the situation might even be so burdensome that one loses interest in learning. In Amy Tan?s speech My Mother?s English, she explains the difficulties her mother faced because she (Tan?s mother) was unable to clearly express herself. She (Tan) also felt the effects of this as a child. Not only did Tan?s mother find speaking English a barrier in the process of assimilation, but Tan herself felt her mother limited her perception (Tan 45). Since Tan?s mother was unable to speak English properly people would not give her good service and would not treat her seriously even to the extant that people ?pretended not to understand her or even acted as if they did not hear her,?(Tan 45). This is just one example of many that shows how some people have had negative experiences assimilating into American society. Language is not the only factor affecting the assimilation of people into American society, but one?s traditions also have an effect on the willingness and on the degree to which one assimilates. Some people have found that certain customs they have are not accepted in American culture and might Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Charter Schools Open to all children, free of tuition, and does not have special entrance requirements, charter schools believe that children should have the opportunity to achieve at a high level. When creating charter schools, they focused on a desire to create greater flexibility for innovation within public education. It was hoped that successful innovations could be adapted to benefit public education more broadly. (NEA, 2017). Charter schools also, foster partnership between parents, teachers, and students in hopes of creating an environment in which parents can be more involved, teachers are allowed to innovate, and students are provided with structure they need to learn. Unlike public schools, charter schools believe that smaller class sizes are important to student learning. According to Homeschooling "Pros and Cons of Charter Schools" article, "Rather than having a student attend a public school where students will be one among thirty to thirty–five other pupils, charter school students will be one of twelve, sometimes fifteen other students" (2017). In a classroom with many students, a teacher may not have the ability to spend sufficient quality time one–on–one with every student . This may result in teachers having more of a challenge in motivating each student and encouraging students individually. The teacher may not have the time to recognize each student's particular challenges, passions, and talents (Homeschooling, 2017 ). In addition, according to EF Academy's "10 Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Hook Feminism Essay Feminism is for everyone explains the emotional encounters of the struggles and challenges faced by the feminist movement. The experiences of the feminist movement helped shaped a strong case that the inclusion of men is required within the movement. One main goal of the feminist movement is to end all forms of sexism, sexist exploitations, and oppression (Hook). The key argument that Hook makes throughout her novel is that feminism is about creating a world free of sexism. The only way to make this possible is by having both males and females fight to end sexist causes. The patriarchal society is based on powers in relationships–whether that power is men over women, bosses over their workers and even parents over their children. • 6. Informative Essay Hook Pinkston, Anna Dr. Jeff Newberry ENGL 1101H August 26, 2017 As my ninth –grade English teacher, Mrs. Newton would say, without a good hook to start your essay, no one will ever read it. As I was taught, a hook is a crucial part in your essay because it will help grab the audience's attention so that they will continue to be invested throughout the paper. For example, the hook could be a question or a quote about the overall topic of your essay. In my junior year, we had to do a controversial essay and I used a quote from a famous tattoo artist as my hook because I did my essay over tattoos and piercings. After the hook, the introduction begins to take form and show the audience what your essay is about. The introduction is the first thing in your essay that will tell the audience what the essay is about. The introduction paragraph should be as interesting as the initial hook and keep the audience invested in the paper. It will establish the basis of the essay and should contain the thesis statement. The thesis statement is the point in your essay where you will state the topics that the essay will contain. In high school, we were taught that the thesis should contain the three points that you will elaborate upon in your three body paragraphs: the weakest point, the middle point, and the strongest point. The first body paragraph should be the weakest or simplest way to get the overall point of the essay across to the readers. This will be the foundation of all three points, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Nature And Nature : My Relationship With Nature For as long as I can remember, the outdoors has always been a place where I can go to find myself again. It is a place where I can be whatever I want, a place where there are no rules, no family and no friends. Well, sometimes there are friends, but most of the time it's just me and the trees. When I was child, all I ever wanted to do was climb a tree to the very tip top to maybe, just maybe, touch a cloud. Now I know that's far out of reach, but back then I thought I could do it and thought that there was nothing in my way except for a couple of limbs. How easy is that? It's basically like climbing a ladder. Outdoors, to me, is a magical place where I can be, do and see whatever I want and there's no one there to tell me I can't. Outdoors has always been a place where I can just relax and forget about the world around me for just that one moment. Over time my appreciation for outdoors has matured greatly. I love listening to the sound of the raindrops splattering across the roof or the site of the snowflakes falling past the leafless trees. In this essay, I'm going to define my relationship with nature. I'm going to tell about my experiences and how much I personally love Mother Nature. My relationship with nature can only be defined as a place for me to explore God's creation without any judgment. Nature is a place where I can go and forget about my everyday life, a place where there is no responsibility weighing down my shoulders. I can be, do and go where I Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The Socs are in the upper class while the greasers are the poor ones that dislike the Socs because they have more money, better cars, and act like they are better than the greasers. The Outsiders is a good story by S.E. Hinton that shows the struggles of growing up Hinton did a fine job with the character development, the plot, and the theme with a few flaws. The fact that all three boys were still moving on without their parents showed that they had a lot of heart. The two main divisions were between the Greasers and the Socs, and this rivalry led to many conflicts in the book. Hinton illustrates the divisions and fighting in this quote, "They caught him and one of them had a lot of rings on his hand that's what had cut Johnny up so badly" (Hinton 33). Johnny was attacked by four Socs when he was playing with a football at the park. There are many times in the book where Socs attacked Greasers that were walking alone. Howard explains the divisions and violence of the gangs in this quote, "Tulsa was one of many American cities that had seen an increasing division between social classes since World War II, and the animosity between Greasers and Socs gangs illustrated the extent to which this division between social classes had permeated society" (Howard 28). The Greasers were seen as the poor outcast while the Socs were the popular one with all the money. The Socs provoke the Greasers by saying hurtful things and attacking them so both gangs feel the need to fight to prove that they are better. Hinton did a good job of portraying the violence and building up to these points and this keeps the reader interested in the book. There are many critics and parents who were outraged about the violence that takes place in the book. This quote by Hinton demonstrates the harsh violence, "I ducked and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Statistics reveal that approximately three million youths, between 12–18, have either thought about or attempted suicide in the past year. More than 1 /3, actually succeeded. Only in the past two decades, have depression and suicide been taken seriously. Depression is an illness that involves the body, mood and thoughts. Depression affects the way a person eats and sleeps, feels about themselves, and the way they think of the things around them. It comes as no surprise to discover that adolescent depression is strongly linked to teen suicide. Adolescent suicide is now responsible for more deaths...show more content... Adolescence is a stressful experience for all teens. It is a time of physical and social changes producing rapid mood swings from sadness to elation. Even an emotionally healthy teenager may have the constant fear of not being good enough, not making the varsity team, or getting good grades. Special situations such as a parents divorce can trigger intense sadness and feelings of wanting to die. People who usually experience depression, can seem fine. But there are many key signs to show that they are depressed. Such as, change in school performance, eating habits change, constant unhappiness, low self esteem, guilt, social isolation, inability to concentrate, irritable or angered easily, or has a severe lost of energy. For a teen suffering from severe depression, has feelings of worthlessness that dominates their day. Despair is ever present and emotional pain feels like it will never end. Any situation of anger or disappointment may cause the teen to cross the line from wanting to die, to actually trying to kill themselves. Many of them feel pains inside of them, that they can't describe when someone asks them how they feel. They just know that they are sad, or angry, or upset. • 10. Reactions to Hooks' Feminism is for Everybody I am not a feminist simply because I was raised in a feminist household. I am not a feminist because I am an independent, educated woman. I am not a feminist because I am a bitter female, nor because I am a "woman scorned." I am not a feminist because I hate men, nor because I am a lesbian nor because I like to listen to the Indigo Girls. To the contrary I love men and I am not a lesbian. While I agree with hooks that "feminism is a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression" (viii), I believe that her definition of "feminism" states the goals of the movement rather than actually defining the term itself. In my mind, feminism is a synonym for equality. I am a feminist...show more content... While sexism is no longer as overt a practice as in the past, it is arguably just as pervasive. bell hooks' life as an academic has been spent trying to breakdown the existent sexist barriers, which have prohibited women from achieving equality with men. In Feminism is for Everybody, hooks introduces a popular theory of feminism rooted in common sense and the wisdom of her own personal experience. In my opinion, hooks' book is perfectly poised to become THE OFFICIAL "handbook" or "cliff notes" to feminism. Although it's short, Feminism is for Everybody is powerful. It addresses all of the most prevalent issues facing the contemporary feminist movement, everything from where feminism stands, reproductive choice, beauty, violence, race, class, work, all the way to where feminism will go in the future. She uses simple, direct language to express complex issues. However, that is not to say that she "dumbs–down" such topics. Rather, she makes them more comprehensible to those not as familiar with feminism as a discipline. This book offers everyone (man or woman) a chance to explore feminism. It serves as an eye–opener to all those "would be" feminists who are afraid to label themselves as such for fear of being called a man hater or worse, a lesbian! She dispels these myths and others, forcing her audience Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Especially in the context of romantic love. It is a mutual deep affection that instills both partners with the feeling of happiness, a sense of safety, and unity. These feelings however, originate as neurotransmitters. Chemical substances traveling between synapses providing us the feeling we know as – love. This phase lasts between the ages of 18 up to 40, the longest range out of any stage. According to Erikson, one can live a life of fulfillment if one acquires all the virtues throughout all the psychosocial stages in life. Virtues include hope, will, purpose, competency, fidelity, love, care, and wisdom. Erikson proposes that we pose a major existential question to ourselves between this age range (18–40) and that question is " Can I love?" As soon as this question is spawned, then a battle between intimacy and isolation begins. In other words, Erikson believes that the reason why we engage in love–type behavior is to avoid the negative feelings associated with isolation. According to evolutionary psychologist Richard Dawkin, he proposes that the psychology behind love lyes all in the evolutionary need to be in a group setting and to, frankly, propitiate the human species (Dawkins et al., 2016). For Dawkins, the need to engage in love type behavior is similar to Erikson in the sense that we are avoiding isolation, but Richard's hypothesis revolves more around the benefit of being in a group. The idea is the more isolated one is (in neanderthal ages) more likely that person is to perish. Additionally, Dawkins suggests that love is an evolutionary hardwiring that helps us propitiate the human species. Hundreds among thousands of people from all over the world have seen, and even made contact with extraterrestrial life. Will you be next or have you already? They are horrifying stories that come up often with extraterrestrials. Are they fake or your worst nightmare? ВЁSightings within 500 feet are subclassified as various types of ВЁclose encountersВЁ( Hynek 41.) There have been over 104,947 sightings in a decade. There was a sighting back in the 1600s when John Winthrop had unusual writing in his diary about a ВЁgreat light in the nighttime sky"( Hynek 32.) On September 19, 1976, people in Tehran, Iran saw an unidentified flying object around twelve am. Systems started to fail when the unidentified flying object was twenty miles away. Most sightings have been reported in Roswell, New Mexico. In the year 1947, a balloon was seen crashing into the land of a nearby ranch near Roswell, New Mexico but theories say otherwise. Multiple accusations have been arguing about it, but, the real mystery, if it was just a United States Air Force balloon then why did they try to cover it up? In White Mountains, Arizona 1975 a man, Travis, went to work with his buddies to cut down trees. It was a typical day, he and Dallas fought a little bit and then took a lunch break. When they finished loading all the extra limbs in the back of the truck, they left for home. On their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Persuasive Essay On Space Colonization Space Colonization: A Scientific Perspective Planet Earth is not going to last forever. Sooner or later the human race will have to look for somewhere else to call home. Whether it is from overpopulation, global warming, or even the sun exploding, one day humans will need a new home. Of course, this probably will not be the case for a large amount of time; nevertheless, scientists have already started to examine various options for possible space colonization. Sending a colony into space is no small task, so there are loads of problems and obstacles that humanity will need to hurdle to do this successfully. In order for humanity to permanently create settlements outside of Earth's atmosphere, there needs to be advancements in many different...show more content... The most obvious candidate for terraforming, the transforming of a planet to be able to support human life, would be Mars. Even without terraforming, The Red Planet would be a great choice to colonize because of how close it is to Earth. Constant communication, supply shuttles, and potentially traveling back and forth between planets would all be possible because of how much closer Mars is to Earth than all other colonization candidates. Furthermore, combining the discovery of water on Mars and an abundance of, "...many industrially useful minerals for construction and manufacturing purposes" creates a seemingly great potential home for humans (David). Except, the only problem is that Mars is currently unlivable. This is where terraforming comes in. There are various proposed methods for terraforming Mars, but for the most part, they all start with melting the planet's ice caps and warming the planet's atmosphere by introducing various gases to create breathable air. The new gases then thicken the atmosphere to protect from solar radiation (Williams). There are also bacteria called Deinococcus Radiodurans that could possibly be genetically engineered to detoxify soil on Mars (Slotnick 124–125). If this bacteria can be correctly engineered, Deinococcus Radiodurans would likely provide a faster way to create detoxified soil than waiting around for the atmosphere to detoxify it; therefore, being a huge step forward in the effort to terraform Mars. The major setback to the idea of terraforming is how long it will take. The actual estimates for the length of time it will take to make Mars completely human–safe vary between a couple of quick centuries to millions of years (Williams). In addition to length, terraforming would also require a staggering amount of greenhouse gases from Earth. Not only would the gases have to be Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Bell Hooks's Education bell hooks, American feminist writer and literary critic, once said, "The classroom, with all its limitations, remains a location of possibility." Even when she wrote these words over 20 years ago in 1994, there was a clear, unsullied idea of what a child's education should be composed ofв”Ђpossibilities. In the time of hooks' writing, America's people were being tested on their strength as the deindustrialization of major cities occurred, leaving most of the factory workers without money and homeless. After Reagan left office, there was an abundance to clean up. The country's people were trying to create possibilities that might work out. The American school system remains about what hooks said: possibilities. Even with the media continuously...show more content... We see constant disparities in funding within our school system between class and between race. Because of this, we need to regulate the funding between the "good school bad school poor school rich school" paradigm. Why aren't there already laws permitting and enforcing equal funding? In the ruling of Rodriguez vs. San Antonio Independent School district, it was found that even if it was completely morally ethical, laws against or for inequitable funding are not in the constitution and therefore it cannot be ruled upon in the high court. So, even if two schools in the same district are within a 10,000 dollars funding difference, a pupil cannot do anything about it because it doesn't say anything about it in the constitution. States in the deep south, like Texas and Alabama, get the least funding, says a study done by the National Law Center for Education. The U.S. average for funding per state is $10,132 for one pupil. Tennessee's money spent per pupil is $6,839. Also, Tennessee has one of the lowest GDPs and its education effort is one of the lowest. Why is this? Because Tennessee still didn't take advantage of its fiscal capacity, and that's why it received an F on the effort scale. In a study done by Education Trust, it said that there is a 1,200 dollar gap between the districts with the most poverty and the districts with the least Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Essay about Teen Suicide In today's society, teenagers are faced with problems on a daily basis. When they are unable to deal with those daily hassles, serious problems can develop within the teen that can ultimately lead to resulting effects including depression or even suicide. Suicide in teens is one of the most traumatic and problematic issues that we face today in not only adults but many adolescents as well. Today suicide is one of the top causes for death in teenagers, out shadowed only by homicides and accidents. Some of the top "accidents" include drug overdoses, single–car accidents, self–inflicted gunshot wounds, falls from bridges and buildings, and self–poisonings. Some youth suicide analysts believe that these were not accidents at all, but were...show more content... That change to the though process is called a "mental block" (Schleifer 29). When faced with a mental block the teen feels as if all hope is lost. Certain individuals who are very emotional and have difficulty dealing with stress are referred to by researchers as being in a state of emotional dysregulation. Emotional dysregulation has been associated with child abuse and other traumatic experiences (Lezine 61). Noticeable physical effects of a suicidal person include abuse of drugs or alcohol. Abusing drugs affects the chemical balance in the brain and strengthens the feelings of loneliness and sadness. Once or if the teen decides to stop using drugs or alcohol as a solution to their problem a new complication arises. Withdrawal from drugs or alcohol also intensifies the feeling of being hopelessness (Teen Drug Abuse). Another physical difference in a suicidal teenager is the brain itself. Researchers have studied the relationship between serotonin levels in the brain and the chance of suicide in an individual. "The researchers found that the suicide victims' brains contained fewer release sites for serotonin and more sites to receive serotonin than did the brains of normal subjects. This research strengthens the theory that the serotonin system is related to self–murder" (Francis 25). The social effects on suicide have a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Essay about Hades The ancient Greeks portrayed the underworld as a place for all the dead and clearly visualized it in their myths and legends. The underworld in Greek mythology was not a lively place, for it was where all the dead souls went. When a person died, the soul would be sent to Hades, a more formal name for the underworld. "The dead would go to Hades because there was no annihilation in the Greek mythology. The dead are dead because they have a flavorless and unhappy existence". The primary ruling god of the underworld is Hades whose brother is Zeus, king of the gods, and whose parents are Cronus and Rhea. Hades is a greedy god with his greatest concern being to increase the number of his subjects. He is very stubborn about letting...show more content... They were three women: Alecto, Megaera, and Tisiphone. Alecto is often known as thegoddess of war and death. The god of sleep, Hypnos, also resided in the underworld, in Cimmerians in a cave on the island of Lemnos. Hypnos was the son of Nyx and the brother of Thanatos. His sons were the conductors of dreams. The mightiest among them, Morpheus, from whom we get the name for modern day morphine, brought dreams of men, Icelus, animals, and Phantasus, inanimate things. Nyx represents the night. Being born from Chaos she is among the oldest of the gods. She also resides in Hades. Lyssa, an underworld goddess, name means canine madness. She drove her dogs through the world prompting the divine intoxication of the maenads to destructive fury. Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos were more commonly known as the Fates, the personification of human destiny. Clotho would spin the thread when one would be born. Lachesis would weave the thread, while Atropos would cut the thread at the end of one's life. Not only humans submit to the Fates, but immortals as well. Hecate, a descendant of the Titanides and cousin of Artemis, lives in Hades. She is the kind goddess of witchcraft. She also shares in ruling over the souls as a result of being Persephone's friend. Hecate is also the goddess of roads, crossroads in particular because that is where the most ghostly activities were to have taken place. • 18. Hooks's Struggle For Equality The most important point that I learn through this quarter is the definition of feminism. Before the class, I thought that feminism means equal right, which means that women should have the same rights in politics, employment, education and many others aspects as men have. However, through learning, especially through reading about hooks's essay, I then realize that this definition, which limited feminism to "equal rights", is not complete and inclusive enough to describe goals of all women, no matter the race, age, and class, around the world. hooks tells me that "Women in lower class and poor groups" "would not have defined women's liberation as women gaining social equality with men" since lower–class women do not share equal rights as Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Effects Of Gaming On Mental Health The Effects of Gaming on a Person's Health The effects of gaming on a person is a controversial issue. Many people believe that it is a bad influence, but there is also evidence that games can have positive effects on a person's health. Many studies have been done into the topic of the effects of video games on a person. The findings show that video games have a positive effect on a person's mental and social health and have many unrelated health benefits. The biggest type of health that video games affect is a person's mental and emotional health. Studies show that video games have positive effects on mental health. In the study "Is Time Spent Playing Video Games Associated with Mental health, Cognitive and Social Skills in Young Children?" it was found that video games have positive effects on mental health. Viviane Kowess–Masfety et al. say "The results of the present study suggest that video game use is not associated with an increased risk of mental health problems. On the contrary, the data presented here suggest that video games are a protective factor" (356). Isabela Granic et al. discusses the effects video games have on emotions and mood and how these affect mental health. They say, "Several studies have shown a causal relation between playing preferred video games and improved mood or increases in positive emotion" (71). The improvement to mood and emotions can have many positive effects to mental health. One example comes from the puzzle genre of games. The Get more content on HelpWriting.net
