Paul Revere warned colonists of the approaching British army, allowing American minutemen to gather and eventually engage the redcoats in Lexington and Concord. Native Americans had learned over generations to live off the land by hunting and eventually developing agriculture. In the 18th century, most colonists engaged in barter and trade rather than using money, exchanging goods like fish, wheat, and blankets. Many early colonists lived in poverty as immigrants without money or skills to survive. They feared for their lives and loved ones due to risks of disease, violence, and uncertainty in the new land. Housing improved as colonists built larger homes on expanding available land. The colonial population grew due in part to more sanitary food

Natives Over time natives were able to learn to live of the land They had to since they were the first there They developed the knowledge to hunt for food, and what they could eat off the land Eventually they learned what to plant and where exactly to hunt to better their living situation They cleared land and started planting their food. This became known as Horticulture This became their main source for food

3. Trade Today, we can go to grocery stores and purchase whatever we want. Back then, the main way of getting what you wanted was trade Things like fish, wheat blankets, anything that could be used or eaten was traded Trading became very complex in the 18th century This is when people first started using money instead of trading what they have for what they want

4. Poverty There became a growing number of immigrants in the seventeenth century Many migrated because they were not doing well in Europe but they ended up doing worse in the new country Many did not have the money or skills to survive on the new land yet They got by as indentured servants This created a great deal of poverty

5. Fear Many lived in fear that they would never see their loved ones Many people went off to fight and did not know if they would return or see their familiar surroundings again There were so many risks leaving your own comfort zone They risked running in to small pox victims, bloodshed, death, and losing the ones they loved

6. Housing In the eighteenth century, people were able to build bigger and better houses. There was more land available to do so In America, only ten percent of British exports were consumed Most people learned to live of the land and create a new life for themself

7. Population Rise Many people believed the food was a main factor in the population rise The food was more sanitized Plus, American colonies learned to grow their own food Another factor was the medicine People developed a better sense of the medicine that was effective

8. Independence Many people developed the skills to live and survive on their own People came to America to build a new life for themselves and their families They were learning how to live without the comforts from home and develop new comforts in the new land They learned to live with the basics Finding their own food, building their own houses, and learning to survive on their own created independence

9. Immigration Many convicted felons were shipped to the American colonies so that they could be field hands This was in replace of being killed back in Europe Along with the convicts, both rich and poor people immigrated to America The wealthy were better off in the new land while the poor had to work as indentured servents
