3. EduChat Purpose
The purpose of this social media product, worldwide social media to communicate
like pen pals do, this will educate people on different languages of the country.
There will be four pages:
• Main page with the notifications
• Find new people to talk to and learn from
• Individual messaging page to communicate
• Profile of the user
• On each page an computed translator will be able to explain parts of the message
that the user does not understand, or provide more detailed knowledge of each
part
The main aim is to create long lasting friendships that build up naturally and are not
swayed by impulsive likes or swipes
4. EduChat Content
The content will be user generated as this is mainly a communication product. This
means that the company has no control over the content produced and sent.
There will be guidelines published on the website and application, this will help the
users to keep safe and remove issues online.
The ‘Homepage’ will contain the notifications of any new messages. This will
display the number of notification and will link to the messages in the ‘Messages’
page.
This page will contain all the message threads between users, this will include all
previous messages sent and received. The user can only delete whole threads of
messages, not individual messages. This removes some chance of online bullying,
for example.
The ‘Find’ page, contains all new people that are recommended to the user that
have similar interests and are native to the language the user wants to learn.
Within the ‘Profile’ page, this contains all the user details. This includes the user’s
profile picture, small intro to themselves, their native language, the language(s)
they want to learn and the amount of people (and languages) they are talking to.
5. EduChat Target User/Membership
This product is for adults (18 year olds and over) this is a focus on
friendship slightly more than learning a language, however this is still
important part.
The reason the product is for this age group is to ensure children stay
safe online.
6. Audience Theories

of the world and encourages new friendships to be built up naturally.
• Caregivers will enjoy the friendships that can be made through this social media product.
• Explorers will like this product as it allows the user to explore new parts of the world
virtually through learning the language.
• This product will not really appeal to survivors as there is no real routine for this product
as it is a communication product.

14. Budget
EduChat will be considered a small business
informational website. According to
https://www.executionists.com/much-
effective-website-cost-2017/ their estimated
cost is between $15, 000 and $30, 000.
This is roughly between £11,700 and £32,500.
15. Possible Revenue Streams
The main revenue will be through advertisements on the social media
site. This created $18,570 in revenue for Facebook in 2018.
The main way to create advertising spaces is through banner or pop up
ads in the application or on the website.
The way this will happen in my social media product is through an
advertisement banner on the right side of the website.
Another way to create revenue is by offering a version of the social
media where the user has to pay for a more exclusive version that
allows the user to talk to more people and be exposed better to the
other users, this would be through adding more to their profile and
allowing the algorithms to match similar people. https://www.stati

networks-ad-
revenues/
16. Legal and Ethical Issues
The security of the users information and data is protected through the
data protection act, (see the next slide). The company should also
produce their own guidelines on how to use the data securely and
privately.
Another issue that has been overcome is the difference in adult and
children talking on the app, this can lead to other issues.
17. Data Protection Act 1998
Everyone responsible for using personal data has to follow strict rules called
‘data protection principles’. They must make sure the information is:
• used fairly, lawfully and transparently
• used for specified, explicit purposes
• used in a way that is adequate, relevant and limited to only what is necessary
• accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date
• kept for no longer than is necessary
• handled in a way that ensures appropriate security, including protection against
unlawful or unauthorised processing, access, loss, destruction or damage
The company should explain completely how the user’s data is being used
within the company and what stays private and public. The data collected
must have a use, and any data that has no use must be deleted. All sensitive
and personal data must stay private and secure; against theft, damage or
loss.

/data-protection
18. Copyright, Royalty Payments and IP
Copyright is a automatic legal right that protects pieces of work for a certain
amount of years. This would be the images, design and idea of the social media
product.
A royalty payment is made by someone in order to gain the right for ongoing use of
that copyrighted work. They are usually an agreed percentage of the gross revenue
created after the copyrighted work is used. This would be a payment of all people
interviewed or photographed. This also includes those who interviewed and then
wrote about in the magazine and the photographer.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royalty_payment
IP is Intellectual Property and protected by law, this includes copyright. It gives the
creators the rights to the property of their creation, and creates economic incentive
for creators as they profit from their creation when they sell it to another owner.
This is all the production of either written text or graphic design.

19. Privacy, Protection of Personal Data, and Reducing
Online Bullying, Stalking and Harassment
All personal information of the users will be kept by the company and
not be available for public viewing. The users are encouraged to not
disclose any personal details of themselves to their new friends.
There will also be the option to report the user to the company, if they
violate the user guidelines then their account will be terminated and
not allowed to create a new account. Enabling the users to do this,
greatly reduces the risk of online stalking, bullying or other issues.
There will also be the option to block a user, this can reduce the fear of
online harassment and constant messaging from some users.
20. Website Standards
The Web Standards Project, WaSP, is “a grassroots coalition fighting for
standards which ensure simple, affordable access to web technologies for
all”. This has since been closed down as there is no longer any need for the
WaSP.
W3C is now the guideline creator for websites. It is the web design and
application standards, which are the standards for creating webpages and
ensuring they are accessible for users with disabilities, internationalise the
sites and make them work on mobile devices.
EduChat is accessible to users with disabilities as they can easily zoom in to
text and have use a text to speech reader. The site has to be international as
it is the basis of the social media product. There is no need for the website to
be available on mobile devices as a separate application will be available.

andards.org/
https://www.w3.org/
21. Privacy
The user has complete control over what they share, the only thing
that is open to public knowledge is their username and native
language. All other details such as learning language, date of birth,
contact details, location, name, friend list and images are all under
control of the user.
When the user first makes an account, they do not share any
information, with the exception of user name and native language. It is
then up to the user what pieces of personal data they share with other
people, whether it is only to themselves, their friends, friends of
friends or anyone.
22. Data Policy
The company uses the users data to ensure they are of the correct age
to have an account.
It also uses data to use an algorithm to find new and recommended
friends, based on previous connections and friends, common words
that you use in the users messages, leading to common subjects like
fashion, music, food, and TV shows.
23. Terms and Conditions of Use
To enable the user to create and use an account on EduChat, they must
read and agree to the set terms and conditions.
This is the agreement of how the company helps the user to find new
friends based on shared interests and language knowledge and allows
the user to report and/or block users.
24. Visual Designs – GlobalChat
This login page allows current user to login to their
accounts and also any new users to create an
account easily. There will be certain forms of
validation to ensure the user is over 18 years old
to increase online safety, especially with children
online. Another form of validation is through
ensuring the email address is in the correct format
with ‘@’ and ‘.’
The notification bubble clearly shows the amount
of notifications that are there. It also contains the
logo to increase the usage of the logo.
The pages are displayed on the left side, this
allows the user to easily switch between the
pages.
