9. Pitch Improvements
I made some improvements from the feedback I was given from my
pitch. The following slides show the changes made to the front cover,
DPS and back cover. The changes have made the magazine include
conventions to entice the audience to read the magazine. The size and
positioning of the cover lines also help to achieve this.
The DPS also looks a lot better as the text is distributed in a way that
looks easier to read as an interview rather than a large block of text.
The back cover is an advert now, this is due to that fact that most
magazine back pages are advertisements for something rather than a
quote from the main celebrities.
13. Production Plan for Chosen Magazine
• Date of publication: This will be decided on the Saturday 2 weeks before
the publication (22/12/2018), this will be a Saturday and means that
members of the public can enjoy the magazine over their weekend.
• Managing the schedule: The deadline of every 2 weeks on a Saturday must
be met, this will only happen if everyone involved works together, this
means the plan must be completed on 22/12/2018.
• Editorial and budgeting decisions: These should be kept similar from
fortnight to fortnight but will have to be officially decided and made known
on 22/12/2018.
• Content acquisition: this is where the content will be gathered and will
have to be completed by 25/12/2018, in order for the editors to edit and
create the magazine.
https://hosbeg.com/the-magazine-production-process/
14. • Sub-editing: this is the quality control of the magazine content and can be done
by the editor, this should be done as the content is acquired to be most efficient.
This should be completed by 29/12/2018.
• Page layout: this is done to make it easy to read the magazine, advertisements
are placed in this stage, and should be finished by the 30/12/2018.
• Proofreading: this is printing of one hard copy to read and correct all mistakes,
this is to be completed by 01/01/2019.
• File emailed to printer: the entire magazine is sent and printed by the company
and should be completed by the 03/01/2019.
• Distribution: this is the sending of the magazine to stores and warehouses, this
needs to be delivered by 05/01/2019 to ensure the readers get their magazine on
time.

Production Plan for Chosen Magazine
15. Calendar Events
• The magazine will be distributed on the first and third Saturday of the
month, encouraging consistency as there will be at least three
Saturdays in each month and this means that there will be
• Release date January 2019, this provides a new feel of the magazine
and also means that there can be a feature page of predictions of the
new year in pop music. This magazine will also gain more sales as
people generally have the “new year, new me” idea of the following
year. This can mean that people want to know more about pop music
in 2019 and so they will buy the magazine.
16. Watermarking
Digital watermarking is a way to indicate who the creation is owned by
and can track any copyright infringements. It is hidden within the
product when the creation is digitally produced.
https://www.techopedia.com/definition/24927/digital-watermarking
17. Copyright and IP
IP is Intellectual Property and protected by law, this includes copyright. It gives the
creators the rights to the property of their creation, and creates economic incentive
for creators as they profit from their creation when they sell it to another owner.
https://www.gov.uk/intellectual-property-an-overview
“the legal right to control the production and selling of a book, play, film,
photograph, or piece of music”
Copyright is a automatic legal right that protects pieces of work for a certain
amount of years. In Q, this could be the images in the magazine, the written words
of the articles, the design and strapline of the magazine.
A royalty payment is made by someone in order to gain the right for ongoing use of
that copyrighted work. They are usually an agreed percentage of the gross revenue
created after the copyrighted work is used.

18. Data Protection Act 1988
The magazine has to follow the data protection principles, this makes sure that sensitive information of
their staff, clients, interviewees and other personnel, is
• used fairly, lawfully and transparently
• used for specified, explicit purposes
• used in a way that is adequate, relevant and limited to only what is necessary
• accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date
• kept for no longer than is necessary
• handled in a way that ensures appropriate security, including protection against unlawful or unauthorised
processing, access, loss, destruction or damage
This means that all data collected from their clients through subscription application, cannot be used for
anything that the customer has not agreed to, and can only be used when is necessary, it also means that
the magazine must remove their data if they stop their subscription to the magazine.
They must never give any personal data to any other organisation or personnel unless agreed by the
customer.
