The teacher will have their 5th grade class of 22 culturally diverse students work in groups to complete a WebQuest research project over the course of Day 2. The class will be divided into small groups, with each student assigned an individual role and task to research. They will then collaborate to create a poster presenting their findings. By the end of the lesson, the teacher aims for 90% of students to demonstrate the knowledge gained from their WebQuest research accurately. Students will use the school library computers to complete the WebQuest, then poster materials in the classroom to present their findings as a group. The teacher will evaluate students individually during the research and collaboratively during the group work and presentations.
1. Assure for Day 2
Analyze Learners- There are ten girls and twelve boys in my class of 5th graders with a total of
twenty-two students. None of my students have disabilities but they are all culturally diverse. My
5th grade students have previous knowledge in researching material and working in groups. They
know how to organize information and present it in a clear and concise manner. Most of my
students prefer to work in groups and collaborate together. My 5th graders prefer hand on
activities but they do not have trouble with assigned readings.
State Objectives- My 5th
grade class will present their group research project by the end of day
2. The class will be divided into small groups and complete a WebQuest. Each student will be
assigned an individual role for their WebQuest and will complete their assigned task. They will
then discuss amongst each other to complete their group’s poster. By the end of the lesson, my
class will demonstrate their knowledge that they gained from their WebQuest with 90 percent
accuracy.
Select Methods, Materials, and Media- The education method of this lesson is individual and
group research followed by presentation. The students will use the school library’s computers to
complete their assigned WebQuest. The students will have access to poster board, pencils, and
markers to complete their poster for group presentation.
Utilize Media and Materials- The WebQuest that the students will complete will be made
before the lesson starts. The art materials needed for the group presentation will be laid out in the
back of the classroom before the students return from the library. The desks will be grouped
together to supply ample space need to complete the presentation. There will be space in the
front of the room for each group to successfully and comfortable present their posters.
Require Learner Participation- Each student will be expected to complete their individual
work needed to complete the WebQuest. They will use their knowledge gained through the
WebQuest to collaborate in their groups. Each member of the groups will present their own
findings during the group presentation.
Evaluate and Revise- Each student will be assessed during their individual work based on their
research methods. While they complete their poster as a group, I will assess how they work
together and whether or not each member is voicing their opinion. The group as a whole will be
assessed on their poster presentation. Each student will be graded with the attached rubric found
in the WebQuest.
