Wedding Case Study
The first known risk is the short duration that Lauren suggests should be used in preparation for the wedding. The wedding must be fixed on January 21, meaning that all development must be handled within this period. The first risk that would prevent the marriage from happening is that money would be involved in making things happen as needed. For instance, reducing the 14 days to 7 days of booking the church hall would require $200. Such costs are expensive in the long-term and would cut a huge portion of the wedding budget. Besides, plans made are bound to fail just like the lace and dress materials were lost, and the noticed received on January 10. It leaves no much room for adequate preparation as other measures must be used to get the wedding dress ready. All these actions point to poor planning. In the first case, everything was orally planned in the family, and even without the participation of others responsible for offering the essential services.
As a wedding planner, the first important thing I would do to ensure the wedding happens on January 21, is making a reservation to the Church Hall immediately, to leave enough room for decorations. Also, I would begin the printing of invitation cards immediately, order wedding dress lace and materials quickly, as well as any significant activity the next day after Lauren comes with the idea. Importantly, the wedding budget would include the hidden costs intended for speeding up the acquisition of any essential resources for the wedding. Notable, I would use the locally available funds for the wedding since they are readily accessible when needed. With these plans, Lauren would have the wedding on the predestined date.

entails the important aspect such as recruitment planning,
strategy development, and searching and screening phase.
Execution and control focus on evaluation and control. The
closeout implies the implementation of the system. Each
milestone is accomplished, evaluated on risks, and assessed on
efficiency before proceeding to the next phase. These
milestones will depend on the IT department and human
resource departments.

Closeout
During the system coding, the first initial phase is a job
description. The major components that are coded include job
duties, job qualifications, and job skills concerning each job in
the organization. For each job category, each of the
requirements is listed and takes six days. The next phase is
recruitment and planning, where the significant objectives of
the system are coded. The system is developed to automatically
pick a specific number of candidates and the types of candidates
to be contacted, a process that takes six days. Next, the strategy
development phase involves identifying the medium of reaching
candidates which takes six days. The system is coded with the
most suitable medium (online advertisement sites). Searching
and screening milestone involves coding the selection and
appointment criteria that takes another six days. The last
milestone, evaluation and control, involves coding the induction
approach for six days. The system is then complete and ready
for usage.
Description of how your project might be affected by delays in
5. the critical path and how you could get the project back on
schedule if such delays happen:
Any delay in the critical path would eventually fail the project
in diverse ways, such as failure to meet the project's deadline.
Coding is a thorough process that necessitates ample time with
effective follow-up from expertise. Just a single mistake in
coding would lead to weeks of recoding the whole system for
effective output. However, in case of coding errors, I would use
a new team of IT experts in the department to redo the coding
and identify the mistakes. Also, there could be challenges from
software and hardware failure. The primary approach I would
use is outsourcing the coding process to a software developer.
However, the developer would work for hand in hand with the
organizational HR and IT department.
Description of project time and cost estimates and how your
WBS impacts those estimates:
The timeline for the project completion is 30 days and allocated
the whole of January. The timeline offers a comprehensive
duration for creation, evaluation, analysis, correction, and
implementation of a better recruitment and planning system. On
the other hand, the approximate budget for the project is $9,500.
Each allocation to the various components of the projects
ensures that all the milestones are accomplished effectively. For
instance, consumables such as power and IT supplies ensures
that milestones like evaluation and control are accomplished
efficiently. The WBS influences the project time and cost
estimates by outlining the durations needed to achieve the
various milestones. When the initiation, planning, execution and
control, and closeout time takes prolonged duration, the cost
estimate rise, unlike for a shorter period.
Unit II Project Topic
6. Project name: Enhanced Selection and Recruitment System
Project manager name: Arie McQuarley
Project’s goal:
• The anticipated benefits of this project include
assisting organizations in finding quality candidates.
Establishing a proper job description as well as advertisement in
areas where an organization can attract candidates with the
appropriate skills is the first primary step.
• Also, the project aims at saving training time and
capital through proper selection. By candidates undergoing
through an organized set of questions as well as skills tests to
engage their ability to fulfill the job demands, an organization
reduces time and resources to look for talents.
• Equally, the project focuses on reducing potential
legal ramifications. Usually, employers get sued for prejudice if
a candidate feels discrimination resulted in their lack of job
acquisition. Enhanced selection and recruitment system
eliminate these misunderstandings.
Cost estimate:
The approximate budget for the project is $9500. The base cost
estimate will include the following expenditures:
• Resourcing such as staff costs and consultant fees
($3000)
• Accommodation ($1000)
• Consumables like IT supplies and power ($1500)
• Expenses such as subsistence ($1500)
• Capital items such as computer hardware ($2500)
Project structure:
The project will take a matrix structure since it is the most
suitable and appropriate while dealing with changes in priorities
and program needs. Matrix structure allows the team members
to engage in information sharing more easily across the
project's phases and permits for the specialization that increases
the depth of understanding. Besides, it allows for the
7. professional development of the project since the structure
allocates all necessary resources equally. Specifically, it helps
in making the scarce specialty skills like system developed to
be comprehensively utilized in the project's course. There will
be a project manager, followed by a system developer and staff.
People/departments involved:
The departments that will mainly be involved include the human
resource department and the IT department.
• The human resource is essential in the recruitment
and selection process and would provide useful insights into the
elements, structure, and components of an effective recruitment
system.
• The IT department, however, will help in the
development of an efficient technical system that incorporates
the best recruitment system dashboard.
Potential risks/issues to overcome:
• The risks to overcome in the project include
integration risk. The staff could underestimate the integration of
information and technology processes in the organization due to
the existing manual selection processes.
• Another potential risk is resistance to change
whereby the departments defend the existing system and
actively resists the new projects towards development.
Timeline for completion (start date/completion date):
The time for completion of the project is estimated to be one
month. The project will begin on 1 January 2020 and end on 31
January 2020.
Project scope:
Project objective:
• The objective of the project is to ensure that job
descriptions meet business needs.
• Also, the project ensures candidates are assessed
against reliable selection standards.
• The project ensures candidates remain confident the
job offer is genuine.
• The project guarantees that all stakeholders follow
8. the recruitment process.
Deliverables:
The primary deliverable includes the selection and recruitment
system.
Milestones:
The project milestones include completion of the job
descriptions phase, recruitment planning phase, strategy
development phase, searching and screening phase, and
evaluation and control phase.
Technical requirements:
The project will be coded using HTML. The system will be
compatible with android OS, Windows, and Apple OS.
Limits and exclusions:
The project does not rely on existing company selection and
manual recruitment processes.
Reviews with customer:
Candidate’s satisfaction with the enhanced selection and
recruitment system is a significant step towards better review.
Project Stakeholders:
The primary stakeholders include third-party vendors, the
project team, the IT department, the users (HR department), and
candidates.
Work breakdown structure (WBS):
The WBS includes initiation, planning, execution and control,
and closeout.
Importance of the WBS:
• The WBS is developed to institute a standard
understanding of the project’s scope.
• Also, it is a hierarchical depiction of the work that is
accomplished towards achieving the project’s deliverables.

Project Case Study
1. The functional structure is based on the functions that the
organization needs to perform. The benefit is that technical
organizations are focused on the tasks of the organization that
must be accomplished hence enhancing accuracy. The challenge
is that the structure takes a silo, implying the lack of
accessibility to people outside the functional division.
Projectized structure focused on the maximal project
administration efficiency (Harrison & Lock, 2017). The
advantage is that resources are committed to the project, making
it easy to schedule work. The disadvantage is that having a team
dedicated to a single project is expensive. Matrix structure,
10. however, is an integration of projectized and functional
structures. The benefit is that everyone utilizes a similar project
methodology and management lifecycle, making the transition
between projects easy. The challenge is that conflict is
paramount between projects due to fighting for related
resources.
2. The first project from the case study used the matrix
structure. The first case involves Bruce Palmer, who was
assigned the role of leading an audit. The significant indication
towards this conclusion is that the company M&M engaged
matrix structure in its auditing projects. Specifically, a manager
(Palmer) would be assigned to several accounts, just like Palmer
was assigned to audit at Johnsonville and Green Bay,
Wisconsin. The second project concerns Ken Crosby, who
managed personal consultancy at Johnsonville. It was a
projectized structure since it was based on maximal
effectiveness. The primary conclusion for the argument is that
the project manager (Crosby) had more authority and resource
control, a factor that led to the poaching of Zeke Olds to work
full-time for the project eventually.
3. For these projects described in the case study, the most
appropriate structure that would be reliable is a functional
structure. In the structure, the plans would entail various
departments, with each department having employees with
similar skills (Harrison & Lock, 2017). For instance, the major
conflict was in the accounting and consultancy areas. Therefore,
through the functional structure, both projects would have
departments that have individual consultancy and accounting
departments that would prevent Olds from working in both
projects. Hence, both plans would enhance their effectiveness
through functional groups that perform specific roles.
4. The technical side of a project involves the aspects leading to
reliability, performance, and availability that a project must
accomplish to proceed in any given project, and includes factors
such as resource allocation and schedule. The Sociocultural side
focuses on how a project manager administers the relationship
11. complications internally and externally in the organization
(Harrison & Lock, 2017). It includes practices such as
teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and negotiation. Sands
and Crosby were not masters on both sides in their projects
since Sands failed to distribute resources adequately. Sands
made Olds have shared roles in both projects and sided with
Crosby instead of Palmer. Also, Crosby was not a master since
his schedule to work with Olds, affected Palmer, and failed to
negotiate as he was always defensive.
5. A better understanding of the organizational strategies would
have improved the outcome of the case since the significant
element that lacks is effective planning. With planning, the
most prioritized project would be handled first by availing all
the resources and experts. When there is appropriate planning,
each project would be subjected to the right structure, a factor
that emanates from the organizational strategy. Therefore, a
better comprehension of the approach is critical to improving
the project’s outcomes since the project manager would
engage the right project sides ultimately.
