Davis, Michaels and Company
Davis, Michaels and Company Case Report
Executive Summary
The executives of Davis, Michaels, and Company need help running their financial planning services. They must decide whether their assistant Janet
can practice the fundamental concepts of finance efficiently enough or higher a temporary employee to help them conquer the overwhelming demand
of their customers. Janet was given a variety of different DCF analysis questions to determine her skills. The main goal of every problem was to find
the best investment strategy for different people that were trying to save up for an important investment in their future. In conclusion, by completing
the tasks given and solved below, Janet has proved that she can handle the position ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the calculations you end up coming out with a rate of 14.87%. The third and final part of question three asks what rate you will need if the interest
is compounded semiannually. All you have to do is double the amount of terms and you will come out with a lower number of 7.177%. Since the
interest is compounded semiannually that means that you will need to times that number by two and you come out with your final number of 14.35%.
In question four, Janet was asked to solve a question that deals with annuity payments, specifically, ordinary annuities. It starts by asking of how
much you will make if you add $2,000 every year and it is compounded by 10% interest every year. These, for the most part, are future value
problems. The first one comes out to be a future value of $12,210.20, which does not satisfy the need for $20,000. The next part asks what the value
would be if the interest was compounded semiannually. You have to do an equation in order to find out what the effective annual interest rate.
Through this equation you come out with a value of 10.25% and after the calculator calculations you come out with a future value of $12,271.11, also
not meeting the demand for that first year of college. The next part asks what payment will you need in order to get to that $20,000 number and the
present value comes to be $3,275.95. Next, the case asks what original payment you would need in order

The prefixes can be divided semantically into these following groups: quantity prefixes, locative prefixes, temporal prefixes, negation prefixes (see
Appendix). However, in one such study (Ingo Plag 134), it is found that numerous prefixes do not belong to any of the four groups above. For
example, prefixes express diverse notions, such as "wrong, evil" (mal–, malfunction, malnutrition), "badly, wrongly" (mis–, misinterpret, mistrial),
"false, deceptive" (pseudo–), "together, jointly" (co), "in place of" (vice–)... One more type of affix is suffixes. Unlike prefixes, suffix is an affix which
is attached after the root. There are four types of suffixes: nominal suffixes, verbal, adjectival and adverbial suffixes. (see Appendix) Compounding
Compounding is the most productive type of word formation process in English. Acompound is a word that consists of two elements, the first of which
is either a root, a word or a phrase, e.g. biochemistry, systems analysis, over– the– fence gossip...; the second of which is either a root or a word (Ingo
Plag 183). Most of compounds are interpreted in such way that one element, head, is modified by others. And the compounds inherits most of it
semantic and syntactic information from its head (Ingo Plag 183). There are three types of compounds: open compound, hyphenated compound and
solid compound. An open compound consists of two or more words written separately, such as salad dressing, Boston terrier, or

Compound Nouns Essay
ObjectiveThis year my third grade class began a lesson on compound nouns. We began by playing a matching game. Each child picked a card with a
word on it. They then had to try to find a partner who had another word that would pair up with theirs to make a new word. The children were very
excited, but no one made the connection with compound words. Once they were paired up, each student said their word and their new word. At this
point, they started guessing that we ere going to talk about compound nouns. I observed the children's excitement begin to diminish when they
realized they were not just playing but learning too. I heard one of my boys whisper to a friend, "She tricked us again." "Yeah, she's always good
for that," was the response. At this point, I asked the children if anyone could guess my favorite compound noun. Since this seemed like another
game, the energy level began to rise. With no one guessing the correct answer, I told them my favorite compound noun was 'grasshopper.' They
began to laugh and wanted to know why. I told them it was because I loved to eat grasshopper pie. There were lots of laughs and kids shouting
gross. I asked them if they had ever had grasshopper pie and of course, no one had. Throughout many of my lessons I use a cross curricular approach,
so this lesson fit right in. To incorporate math, we made a chart that showed how many students thought they would like grasshopper pie. Most of the
boys were talking

The Episode I Thought Was Most Interesting
The one episode I thought was most interesting was when the class first started and they were talking about compound words. When Mrs. Detreick
went to the front of the class room the students got silent really fast. She then turned on the smart board and pulled up a worksheet. When they were
going over the worksheet she would have the student come up to the board and their responsibility was to write what the compound word would be.
After they got done with the worksheet she told the students to take out their iPads and go to socrative. They played a game that they had to decide
whether the word was a compound word or not, this put a little competition into the learning. After they played a few rounds of that the teacher hand
out cards that had one part of the word and they have to find the other student with the word completing your word. Once you find your partner you
will see a number on the top of your card and you will go to the spot in the room that matches your number that will be your group.
3. So What
During the first episode in question 2 Mrs. Detreick does a great job of connecting the InTASC teaching standard #3 Learning environment. The first
way she shows this is by putting the worksheet on the smart board that way everyone can see it. She then has students come up to the board and solve
the problem of connecting the compound words. She saw in her class that they respond well with repetition and being involved. The second way she
demonstrates this is by having

ABSTRACT
The new series of two new hydrazone derivatives and their vanadium complexes have been synthesized bearing the formula M[DPDH](BF4)2 and
M[DCDH](BF4)2, where M=V, DPDTPH= (2,6–diacetylpyridine–N,N'–Pyridine–2,6–dicarboxylic acid dihydrazone) and DCDTPH = (2,6– pyridine
diacarbonyl di chloride– N–N'–Pyridine–2,6–dicarboxylic acid dihydrazone) and (BF4)=Tetrafluoroborate. The ligand and complexes have been
analyzed for elemental analysis, spectral studies, and conductivity measurements. Different techniques like FT–IR, electronic data were used to
investigate the structural features of the synthesized compounds. Electronic absorption and IR spectra indicate octahedral geometry. The antimicrobial
activity of ligand and hydrazone derivatives and their vanadium complexes against bacteria and fungi shows the complexes have been found to be
manifold active biologically than the ligand.
Key Words: Hydrazone derivatives, FT–IR, Spectral and antimicrobial Studies.

Vikas Swarup's 'Q & A'
Text to Text connection: The book "Q & A" by Vikas Swarup is about a young boy named Ram Mohammad Thomas who was arrested for
answering all twelve questions correctly on the show "Who Will Win a Billion?" (Similar to "Who wants to be a Millionaire?"). He was accused
of cheating because as a poor orphan who has never gone to school, how is it possible that he knows about the planets? Thomas takes the audience
back into his past before each question is revealed which explains how he was able to answer such questions. Connection #1: In the second chapter
of "Q & A", we follow the story of Thomas's upbringing and how he was adopted by priest, Father Timothy. Long story short, Father Thomas gets
murdered by another priest, Father John. How do you think this incident relates to the quote "[if] you let the fear inside, if you pull it on like a
familiar shirt, then you can say to yourself, [all] right, it's just fear, I don't have to let it control me. I see for what it is" (Albom, 105)?... Show more

Although the death of Father Timothy had a huge impact on the child, we see how Thomas was able to use this experience to excel in life, rather
than hinder him. Unlike most children, Thomas was never the child who blurts out everything on his mind as illustrated in the passage "[today, for
the first time, I am in the confession box. ... I have sinned ... I say, and proceed to tell him about the magazines under the mattress ... the snorting of
talcum powder" (Swarup, 52). After the death of Father Timothy, Thomas overcomes the fear of speaking up and helping others. As a result of this act,
he was able to "save" Shantaram, a neighbor, who was abused and raped by her father. Morrie uses the method of detachment to help make dying less
painful while Thomas uses detachment to help him

To What Extent Does Patrick Suskind Develop Grenouille's...
Throughout the novel Perfume by Patrick Suskind, there is an obvious use of literary devices used to describe the scents which Grenouille, the
protagonist, smells, the way in which Grenouille smells aromas, as this is different to the 'average' persons scent capacity, and the relevance of the
aroma, as he emphasizes those smells which have an impact in the book through a more vivid and specific explanation. This will be a comparison of
two passages for the novel, one from the beginning of Grenouille's life, and one from the end, in order to obtain a comparison in the description of
scents through the novel. Suskind uses devices such as metaphors, italics, and juxtaposition, to name a few, to highlight the smell or aroma which

The diction used in the first text is not one of sophistication; as a child would be have speech that was not yet fully developed. This is shown
through the first two sentences of the description on the people and laces affected by this smell, as it is a list of common people and places rather
than a detailed explanation and specific location. The language in this extract continues to develop into more developed thought such as when Suskind
explains there is no limitation to the scent. This explanation as to the limitation of the 'stench' is used not only to compare the horrific smell of Paris,
but also to emphasis the severity of this smell as 'even the King himself stank'. This explanation as to the severity of the smell is seemingly juvenile
compared with that in the second text, as the first text simply says what the smell is not limited to and creates a list of these things, while the second
text goes on to describe the reactions to this smell, this is more developed as it shows the influence of the scent Grenouille has created, and the
influence it creates on society. The first extract, although not as developed as the second, gradually becomes slightly more mature through the
paragraph, symbolizing the growth of Grenouille through his introduction to Paris through the use of more

Solid Phase Of Polymer Bound 2
A 1,3,4–thiadiazole library was constructed by solid–phase organic synthesis. The key step of this solid–phase synthesis involves the preparation of
polymer–bound 2–amido–5–amino–1,3,4–thiadiazole resin by the cyclization of thiosemicarbazide resin using p–TsCl as the desulfurative agent,
followed by the functionalization of resin by alkylation, acylation, alkylation/acylation, and Suzuki coupling reaction. Both the alkylation and acylation
reactions chemoselectively occurred at the 2–amide position of 2–amido–5–amino–1,3,4–thiadiazole resin and the 5–amine position of
2–amido–5–amino–1,3,4–thiadiazole resin, respectively. Finally, these functionalized 1,3,4–thiadiazole resins were treated with trifluoroacetic acid in

Analysis Of Shel Silverstein 's Works
In this fun strategy, students use a "phone," (usually a rounded piece of plastic, like a PVC pipe) to hear themselves. It is effective for building
fluency, since students can focus on their speaking. Additionally, they help to keep students focused on instruction. Students monitor their own reading
and the classroom is usually quiet because students are encouraged to whisper (hence the name) so that all students can hear themselves (Cadieux,
2012). This strategy is a simple one: practice. The more students practice, the better they will read. At some point, students will no longer need to fully
focus on decoding. Instead, they can read with fluency. It is important to select fun books when going about this. Students should want to read their
books. Shel Silverstein's works, for example. The poet's stories are short and entertaining. Partner Reading is a cooperative learning strategy in which
two students work together to read a text. The Partner Reading strategy allows students to take turns reading and provide each other with feedback as a
way to monitor (Classroom Strategies Partner Reading, n.d.). Students who are struggling readers work well as partners. They may be partnered with a
student who is a better reader, for additional support. Alternatively, when provided support, they may be partnered with another student at the same
level, letting them know they are not alone. In this case, a group of three, with the strongest reader in class might be helpful.

Time Value of Money
Abstract
The first steps toward understanding the relationship between the value of dollars today and that of dollars in the future is by looking at how funds
invested will grow over time. This understanding will allow one to answer such questions as; how much should be invested today to produce a
specified future sum of money?
Time Value of Money
In most cases, borrowing money is not free, unless it is a fiver for lunch from a friend. Interest is the cost of borrowing money. An interest rate is the
cost stated as a percent of the amount borrowed per a period of time, usually one year. The current market rates are composed of three items. The Real
Rate of Interest is what compensates lenders for postponing their own spending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Opportunity cost is a basic term from the disciplines of economics and accounting. The acceptable definition of the term is, "The advantage forgone as
the result of the acceptance of an alternative."
For example, the opportunity cost of a single glass of beer is about $7.00. The generally accepted Opportunity Cost factor, including inflation, is 6.7.
Therefore, that $1.00 glass of beer cost the buyer about $7.00 in future earnings.
Opportunity cost is an important concept in financial decision–making. There is a useful rule of thumb for incorporating opportunity cost into financial
decision–making. If faced with a spend–or–invest trade–off and deciding to pay off debt, subtract the projected income earned on the investment to
calculate a net savings. If deciding to invest, subtract the projected interest paid off on the debt to calculate net savings.
The Rule of 72 is a simple financial rule that simply states that investments will double its initial amount every 72 periods that it is compounded. The
formula is written like this:
72/r
where: r = the rate of return per period.
In other words, an initial amount such as $1000 which has a fixed rate of return of 20% will double itself in just over three and a half years, 72/20 = 3.6.
This kind of financial equation is very handy to use when you need to compare investment opportunities or loans such as home loans. The Rule of 72
is commonly used in all areas of personal finance and financial planning,

Essay Preparation of 4-Bromoaniline
Preparation of 4–bromoaniline
Introduction
Aromatic compounds tend to undergo electrophilic aromatic substitutions rather than addition reactions. Substitution of a new group for a hydrogen
atom takes place via a resonance–stabilized carbocation. As the benzene ring is quite electron–rich, it almost always behaves as a nucleophile in a
reaction which means the substitution on benzene occurs by the addition of an electrophile. Substituted benzenes tend to react at predictable positions.
Alkyl groups and other electron–donating substituents enhance substitution and direct it toward the ortho and para positions. Electron–withdrawing
substituents slow the substitution and direct it toward the meta positions.
Aromatic compounds also undergo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Reflective Essay on Classroom Observation
Danielle Moeller
Professor Schilling

Observation Reflection
As I walked into the classroom for my first day of observations, I was greeted with a warm "Hello!" In fact, each time that I entered a new classroom
I was given the same greeting. All of the teachers were more than happy to be helping a future educator by letting me observe their teaching styles and
learn new techniques to use.
Through spending time in various classrooms, I have gained valuable information that I will take with me into student teaching and my future
classroom.
Many of the things that we have talked about in class were illustrated for me in the classrooms that I visited. The most prominent of them was the use of
word walls.

For one reading aloud lesson, the teacher used the "popcorn reading" strategy. She did most of the reading, but every once in a while she picked
one of the students to take over. I think that this was a great way to handle the book that they were reading because there was some difficult
vocabulary in the section that they read that day. This style helped me to realize that even though they are in 4 th grade, the students do not have
to be responsible for all of the reading all of the time. It is a good thing to give them a break every so often and just let them enjoy the story
through following along. However, I did like that she would stop about every other paragraph and ask questions about tough vocabulary and what
was happening in the story. This is a great way to make sure that the students were really following along and not staring at the floor or off into space.
She also was able to insert a minilesson review on using context clues to figure out the meaning of an unknown word. Since she knew which students
would be comfortable reading the material in front of the whole class and which would not, the teacher was able to choose the confident readers to do
the reading aloud and have the others answer the questions.
With buddy reading, I think that it is a great way for a strong reader to help a struggling reader. As a class read their material in pairs, I heard one little
girl encourage her partner who was struggling with some of the

New Words Possimpible, Revertigo And Embiggen
Abstract
Aside from the closed grammar class, the open word class that consist of a large portion of the whole corpus of English language has been
accepting uncountable new wordings from various fields continuously. The purpose of the essay is to analyze a few words that are invented by,
and thus went viral for some special reasons in popular TV series within the recent decades. The paper will take insight into new words Possimpible,
Revertigo and Embiggen that are brought to the world by famous TV series. Among all, how the new terms originated and the reasons they create a
trend of fashion in the lexical field will be studied in the content below. The influence of the newly created words on both academic fields and people's

from revertigo to express the meaning of transferring into a unique psychological condition. 'Emwiden' could be derived from embiggen to represent
the action of making things wider, and 'Emsmallen' could be created to refer to the action of making smaller something. Possimpible still has its
potential to be applied in varies fields of study to describe the not yet determined circumstances, but the abnormal lexical composition has limited the

Why Do We Have Hair
Why do we have hair? Long ago in Ancient Greece there was a little town called Oldiron. This little town was ruled by King Alexandros the great. He
was known for his heroic feats of courage and bravery. He had fought ferocious centaurs, women disguised as snakes, blood–thirsty vampires,
fire–breathing dragons and many creatures considered impossible to defeat. There was one mythical creature that was really quite a headache to get
rid of. This monster was Morpheus. It was the perfect weather for the town of Oldiron to relax. They were all hard–working people– especially the
king. They all worked hard to keep the town peaceful and prosperous. Because the town was extremely wealthy, many ferocious and greedy beasts
thought only of plundering this towns wealth. One unusual thing about the town was it was the first ever town in the universe where people were

Previously, we have computed the future value of an investment when a fixed amount of money is deposited in an account that pays interest
compounded periodically. Often, however, people do not depositmoney and then sit back and watch it grow. Rather, money is invested in small
amounts at periodic intervals. Consider these problems: 1. Chrissy deposits $200 each year into a savings account that has an annual interest rate of 8%
compounded annually. How much money will Chrissy have in her account after three years? Hint: Make up a table of how much she has in her

Ewah Research Paper
Growing up in the south we tend to create and use colorful vocabulary. We have y'all, darn–tootin, fixin–to and among others cattywampus.
Cattywampus is a word that I have grown up hearing in my house. To me it means messy, disorganized, and to say the least discombobulated. The
etymology of a word does not always have to be symbolic; sometimes there is an actual historical story behind it. My mom still tells me today that
my room, car, or myself are all "cattywampus" and that I should fix it. In Cherokee folklore, there is a beast which lurks at night called "Ewah" or
wampus cat. Ewah was a woman who disguised herself in the skin of a cougar to spy on the men of the tribe. The men would sit around the campfire
with their "wolf brothers", and tell sacred stories on their journeys or hunting trips (Anderson). While spying on the men, she was discovered. The men
took her to the tribe's medicine man/ shaman; the shaman punished her by transforming her into what she disguised herself as...half–woman, half–cat
(Conley). Looking out–of–sorts, crazy, and chaotic, Ewah was enraged by her curse; she ran into the woods, never to be seen again. Supposedly Ewah
still haunts the forests of East Tennessee and the edge of Carolina waiting to exact her revenge.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

village said, "under the shade of night, the witch of the mountains would turn herself into a wampus cat; she'd steal the villages chickens and pigs"
(Anderson). From different sources throughout the villages, some say she would consume them in her "feline" form, and the rest say that she used the

Emission-Excitation Matrices
INTRODUCTION
Emission–Excitation Matrices (EEMs) are three–dimensional fluorescence data that provide information about the composition of fluorescent chemical
mixtures. They constitute optical landscapes that extend over the dimensions of excitation and emission wavelengths {О»ex–О»em}, and where
fluorophores appear in the form of peaks. In the field of marine and freshwater biogeochemistry, EEMs have been used for the study of dissolved
organic matter (DOM), being a comprehensive analytical technique with which to characterise a highly complex mixture of organic compounds
(Hudson2006, Fellman2010, Nebbioso2013). Indeed, EEMs have served to advance scientific knowledge about the ecology and biogeochemistry of
DOM in aquatic systems [1,2]. Most importantly, they have contributed to evidence that some fractions of DOM are highly reactive organic molecules
that are involved in numerous ecosystem processes, such as bacterial uptake [3–5], metal binding [6,7][1,2][1,2], photoreactivity [8–10] and light
attenuation [11]. Overall these findings suggest the major involvement of DOM in the global carbon cycle [12,13].
Despite the great potential for EEMs to increase knowledge about DOM behaviour in the environment, their interpretation and statistical treatment
remain a challenge [14]. The spectral shapes of EEMs are complex mixtures of multiple and overlapping independent fluorescence phenomena, caused
by the wide range of organic molecules contained in DOM. As only about 25% of

Organic Chemistry Assignment : Organic Chemical Compounds
Organic Chemistry Assignment
By: Shirelle Cogan
1a) Organic compounds: C3H4, C8H10, CH3CH2CH2CH3, Benzene Inorganic compounds: H2CO2 (aq), CO2
Why? We know that organic compounds always contain carbon bonds with hydrogen, but not all molecules containing carbon are organic. They can be
carbon hydrogen bonds, carbides and carbonates.
b) C6H10= alkene, Name: 1,2–hexdiene
C3H4= alkene, Name= 1,3–propdiene
CH3CH2CH2CH3= alkane, Name= Butane
Benzene= aromatic substance, Formula= C6H6
C) I would expect 1,2–hexdiene and 1,2–propdiene to be the most reactive elements due to the fact that they include double bonds. These are more
reactive than single bonds because single bonds only have one electron being "shared" rather than two. The more electrons being fought over, the more
"aggressive" the bond is meaning is unstable and very reactive. Butane would not be very reactive due to the fact that it is made op of only single bonds
meaning that there is not as much fighting/ aggression between two atoms therefore causing it to be more stable. Additionally, in benzene (a
cycloalkene), because the double bonds are continuous throughout the ring, they are evenly distributed throughout the molecule creating a stronger
bond and lower reactivity.

When baking a cake, each ingredient has a certain role which combines to make the final product. When the flour is added with the liquids in the
cake mixture and placed in the oven, it expands to many times its original volume and helps the cake set with a light and aerated texture. This
process allows the gluten increase the elasticity of the batter so that the mixture can expand and set with it falling apart. The beaten egg white in
the cake mixture helps to retain gas and acts like a binder. However, if the whole egg is used the lecithin in the egg acts as a binder which holds
the whole substance together. More than when there is just the egg white because the lecithin increases the strength of the bonds between
substances in the mixture. The eggs are also used as an emulsifier or a moistener and are also used as a source of natural fat in the cake. Salt is
used in cake mixtures to enhance the flavour of the cake and to also "toughen up" the sugar and fat elements of the cake. Sugar is used in cake
mixtures to brown the outside of the baked good, forming a crust as the sugar starts undergoing reactions above 160 degrees. Sugar is also added to
sweeten the taste of the cake.
Bicarbonate soda is crystalline inorganic salt. Baking powder is used in baking to make the baked good rise. This happens because at 50 degrees

Advanced Cell Biology II – Homework # 1 Step 1: Determine which GPCRs are associated with the peach scent. (3.5 pts) Insert the cDNA of all the
olfactory GPCRs into E. coli and purify out all the olfactory GPCR proteins. For each GPCR protein, have one control reaction with just the
GPCR, and one experimental reaction where the GPCR is incubated with the peach extract. Do this for all the olfactory GPCRs. Run all the samples
on a gel. If a compound in the peach extract is the ligand for a specific GPCR, it will cause a conformational change in that GPCR. This will cause
the band on the gel to shift relative to the control reaction for that GPCR. This will allow us to identify which GPCRs are associated with the peach
scent. Step 2:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If GTP cannot be hydrolyzed to GDP, GЙ‘–GDP and GОІОі would not re–associate, so the signal will not be turned off. Cholera and/or Pertussis
toxins Cholera toxin locks GЙ‘s in the GTP bound active conformation, this would extend the duration of the scent. Pertussis toxin locks GЙ‘i in the
GDP bound inactive conformation, this would reduce the duration and extent of the scent. Inhibitors or Activators of Adenylate Cyclase. Activators of
Adenylate Cyclase would cause production of cAMP, which is a second messenger. This would amplify the signal and increase the extent of the scent.
Inhibitors of adenylate cyclase would do the opposite, there would be no and very little cAMP, which would result in little of no amplification of the
signal, reducing the extent of the scent. Inhibitors or Activators of cAMP Phosphodiesterase. Phosphodiesterase breaks phosphodiester bond and
converts cAMP back to AMP, getting rid of second messenger Activators of cAMP phosphodiesterase would get rid of the second messenger and
reduce the extent of the scent. Inhibitors of cAMP phosphodiesterase would allow the second messenger to exist and amplify the signal, increasing the
extent of the scent. Inhibitors or Activators of a GRK. Activators of GRK would cause phosphorylation of serine and threonine residues, which can
then bind arrestin proteins, preventing reactivation of the signaling pathway.

A Brief Note On Gold Nanoparticle Sensor Augmentation Essay
DISCUSSION In order to improve the range of the electronic' nose, the following must be considered in order to effectively detect cancers. Primarily,
types of cancer must be tested to determine if they contain compounds detectable by dogs, which would indicate that said specific cancer contains
odors that are possible to be detected through an electronic nose. Secondly, a database must be compiled of all the different detectable compounds that
are unique to each type cancer through scientific research. After these two steps are complete, a gold–nanoparticle sensor must be designed in order
detect compounds specific to each cancer. All in all, the improved electronic nose will be susceptible to detect cancers it was unable to smell before.
The following are the steps involved in this recommendation and illustrate the processes needed to carry out this project. Cancer Detectability Cancer
Compounds Gold–Nanoparticle Sensor Augmentation Cancer Detectability To be able to improve the existing electronic nose technology that detects
cancers via chemical compounds, it is required that those compounds are feasible to be detected by a dog. If there is documented history of dogs
accurately detecting a specific type of cancer in humans, or a recent scientific confirmation that the said specific cancer is odorously detectable through
the unique chemical compounds, then the detection of said type of cancer is feasibly detectable with electronic noses Otherwise, the cancer may not

Time Value of Money
Compounding – The process of determining the value of a cash flow or series of cash flows at some point in the future when compound interest is
applied.
Discounting – The process of finding the present value of a cash flow or series of cash flows; the reverse of compounding.
Time Line – A graphical representation used to show the timing of cash flows. If not otherwise stated, assume that the cash flow(s) occur at the end of
the period indicated.
Terminology
PV0 = present value (normally at t = 0)
FVn = future value at the end of n periods

The models facial expression is expressed in a seductive manner which attracts men to the advert who could possibly purchase the fragrance for their
girlfriend/wife; therefore men are the second target audience.
The third target audience is people aged above 35 years who could buy the product for their families.
The main image, of American supermodel Jessica Stam, is situated at the centre of the advertisement and used to promote the product. Jessica
Stam has so far had a lucrative career which has included working alongside successful fashion designers and companies such as Victoria Secret,
Marc Jacobs, Gucci and Anna Sui as well as appearing on Valentino. Jessica has appeared on the front cover of the UK's and Germany's edition of
Vogue, (a highly successful fashion and life magazine), hence she is recognisable in Europe and the US therefore by using this particular model

The Importance Of Internet On The Internet
Nowadays, internet has been one of the most important things in human's life. It is an unseen bridge that allows people to access the world. A fast flow
of information and communication are what provided in internet. Any information we need is easily gained without limited by time and space. Internet
is a huge media to allow humans connect each other. Whatever are the events in one part of the world, will quickly be recognized by those who
are on the other side. By the development of information technology, people now are able to have a social relationship in internet. The media
which enable them to establish a relationship virtually are called as social networks (or social media). Numerous social networks are widely used
today. Facebook, twitter, Blackberry Messenger, and WhatsApp are few of them, following the steps of Friendster as the pioneer back then.
Some features like chatting and video call are what people served with. However, chatting and calling are not the only things we can do in social
networks. There is also trading as one of the most rapid activities people do other than those basic functions. As media with almost no charge
needed in using them, social networks are very powerful tools of promotion for those who just start a small business, or want to run the business
with limited time, access and budget. They can be used also to sell unused stuffs. Massive number of users, especially facebook, has created a big
market and opportunities for sellers to trade their products. It is also very useful when someone wants to look for the things he needs and buys,
without have to get the new one with higher price. Trading forums as a modified form of facebook group is a feature provided by facebook that
allows its members to sell things. In selling things through posts, they often (with or without they realize) created and used special forms of terms or
modified words. Evidently, the languages used by those members are very different from what usually used in daily conversation. It is even different
from slang language commonly used in chatting or sms. Normally, one posts an advertisement in the group with description inserted with some new
words. This is a way to make it simple and as brief as

Advertisements For The Same Product Essay
Advertisements for the Same Product Advertisement is basically a one–way communication means that is geared towards informing probable
customers regarding a product and/or service and how and where to find the product and/or service. Advertisements usually contain a persuasive
message through an identified sponsor. The purpose of the identified sponsor is non–personal promotion of a company's products and/or services to
probable customers. In most cases, medium and large companies use advertisements to promote their products and/or services while focusing on
creating assumption among customers that will lead to purchase. While companies use advertisements to market their product and/or services,
advertisements of the same product may vary depending on various factors. This difference is characterized by varying language, images, and sounds
that focus on making the product desirable and appealing.
Considerations When Designing Advertisements Generally, big companies or businesses utilize advertisements in attempts to reach markets andtarget
audience through product appeal. Advertisements are basically part of daily life given the prevalence of adverts across television, radio, and
newspapers among others. Companies and businesses create adverts that are specifically targeted to appeal to certain groups of people or niche
markets. In addition to spending a huge amount of money researching where the target audience is, they also focus on ensuring that the

What Makes A Word Essay
Posted–30/05/2015 by Iain Campbell
What Makes a Word, a Word?
If a new word or neologism is not created by a lexicographer (the person who compiles a dictionary), or any individual, then who decides what words
will be a part of the English language? The speakers of the language are who choose what words are used and which are not. It's the day to day users of
the language introducing and maintaining words, this is what evolves and shapes the way the English language is spoken and understood by the people
who use it.
There are a number ways in which a new word can be introduced into any given language, in this post I will focus on the English language and the
techniques commonly used to make new words in the language. Not only does a word need to be created to 'be part' of a language but it needs to be
used as part of the language regularly to be well recognised and accepted by the speakers, and there for an official word in the language.
Shared Words
The first way a word can be made is through a different language sharing or 'donating' a word with another language or country. An English example
of this technique would be the word 'ninja' which English speakers took from the Japanese and now is sometimes recognised as an English word.
Once the word is taken from a language the pronunciation and origins of the word become lost with time and people can forget or are not able to tell
that the word has foreign origins. Similarly Caramel is 'stolen' from another language and

After the calculations you end up coming out with a rate of 14.87%. The third and final part of question three asks what rate you will need if the interest is compounded semiannually. All you have to do is double the amount of terms and you will come out with a lower number of 7.177%. Since the interest is compounded semiannually that means that you will need to times that number by two and you come out with your final number of 14.35%. In question four, Janet was asked to solve a question that deals with annuity payments, specifically, ordinary annuities. It starts by asking of how much you will make if you add $2,000 every year and it is compounded by 10% interest every year. These, for the most part, are future value problems. The first one comes out to be a future value of $12,210.20, which does not satisfy the need for $20,000. The next part asks what the value would be if the interest was compounded semiannually. You have to do an equation in order to find out what the effective annual interest rate. Through this equation you come out with a value of 10.25% and after the calculator calculations you come out with a future value of $12,271.11, also not meeting the demand for that first year of college. The next part asks what payment will you need in order to get to that $20,000 number and the present value comes to be $3,275.95. Next, the case asks what original payment you would need in order ... The prefixes can be divided semantically into these following groups: quantity prefixes, locative prefixes, temporal prefixes, negation prefixes (see Appendix). However, in one such study (Ingo Plag 134), it is found that numerous prefixes do not belong to any of the four groups above. For example, prefixes express diverse notions, such as "wrong, evil" (mal–, malfunction, malnutrition), "badly, wrongly" (mis–, misinterpret, mistrial), "false, deceptive" (pseudo–), "together, jointly" (co), "in place of" (vice–)... One more type of affix is suffixes. Unlike prefixes, suffix is an affix which is attached after the root. • 9. Compound Nouns Essay ObjectiveThis year my third grade class began a lesson on compound nouns. We began by playing a matching game. Each child picked a card with a word on it. They then had to try to find a partner who had another word that would pair up with theirs to make a new word. The children were very excited, but no one made the connection with compound words. Once they were paired up, each student said their word and their new word. At this point, they started guessing that we ere going to talk about compound nouns. I observed the children's excitement begin to diminish when they realized they were not just playing but learning too. I heard one of my boys whisper to a friend, "She tricked us again." "Yeah, she's always good for that," was the response. At this point, I asked the children if anyone could guess my favorite compound noun. Since this seemed like another game, the energy level began to rise. With no one guessing the correct answer, I told them my favorite compound noun was 'grasshopper.' They began to laugh and wanted to know why. I told them it was because I loved to eat grasshopper pie. There were lots of laughs and kids shouting gross. I asked them if they had ever had grasshopper pie and of course, no one had. Throughout many of my lessons I use a cross curricular approach, so this lesson fit right in. To incorporate math, we made a chart that showed how many students thought they would like grasshopper pie. Most of the boys were talking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Episode I Thought Was Most Interesting The one episode I thought was most interesting was when the class first started and they were talking about compound words. When Mrs. Detreick went to the front of the class room the students got silent really fast. She then turned on the smart board and pulled up a worksheet. When they were going over the worksheet she would have the student come up to the board and their responsibility was to write what the compound word would be. After they got done with the worksheet she told the students to take out their iPads and go to socrative. They played a game that they had to decide whether the word was a compound word or not, this put a little competition into the learning. After they played a few rounds of that the teacher hand out cards that had one part of the word and they have to find the other student with the word completing your word. Once you find your partner you will see a number on the top of your card and you will go to the spot in the room that matches your number that will be your group. 3. So What During the first episode in question 2 Mrs. Detreick does a great job of connecting the InTASC teaching standard #3 Learning environment. The first way she shows this is by putting the worksheet on the smart board that way everyone can see it. She then has students come up to the board and solve the problem of connecting the compound words. She saw in her class that they respond well with repetition and being involved. The second way she demonstrates this is by having ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Vikas Swarup's 'Q & A' Text to Text connection: The book "Q & A" by Vikas Swarup is about a young boy named Ram Mohammad Thomas who was arrested for answering all twelve questions correctly on the show "Who Will Win a Billion?" (Similar to "Who wants to be a Millionaire?"). He was accused of cheating because as a poor orphan who has never gone to school, how is it possible that he knows about the planets? Thomas takes the audience back into his past before each question is revealed which explains how he was able to answer such questions. Connection #1: In the second chapter of "Q & A", we follow the story of Thomas's upbringing and how he was adopted by priest, Father Timothy. Long story short, Father Thomas gets murdered by another priest, Father John. How do you think this incident relates to the quote "[if] you let the fear inside, if you pull it on like a familiar shirt, then you can say to yourself, [all] right, it's just fear, I don't have to let it control me. Throughout the novel Perfume by Patrick Suskind, there is an obvious use of literary devices used to describe the scents which Grenouille, the protagonist, smells, the way in which Grenouille smells aromas, as this is different to the 'average' persons scent capacity, and the relevance of the aroma, as he emphasizes those smells which have an impact in the book through a more vivid and specific explanation. This will be a comparison of two passages for the novel, one from the beginning of Grenouille's life, and one from the end, in order to obtain a comparison in the description of scents through the novel. Suskind uses devices such as metaphors, italics, and juxtaposition, to name a few, to highlight the smell or aroma which Grenouille ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The diction used in the first text is not one of sophistication; as a child would be have speech that was not yet fully developed. This is shown through the first two sentences of the description on the people and laces affected by this smell, as it is a list of common people and places rather than a detailed explanation and specific location. The language in this extract continues to develop into more developed thought such as when Suskind explains there is no limitation to the scent. This explanation as to the limitation of the 'stench' is used not only to compare the horrific smell of Paris, but also to emphasis the severity of this smell as 'even the King himself stank'. This explanation as to the severity of the smell is seemingly juvenile compared with that in the second text, as the first text simply says what the smell is not limited to and creates a list of these things, while the second text goes on to describe the reactions to this smell, this is more developed as it shows the influence of the scent Grenouille has created, and the influence it creates on society. The first extract, although not as developed as the second, gradually becomes slightly more mature through the paragraph, symbolizing the growth of Grenouille through his introduction to Paris through the use of more ... • 18. Solid Phase Of Polymer Bound 2 A 1,3,4–thiadiazole library was constructed by solid–phase organic synthesis. The key step of this solid–phase synthesis involves the preparation of polymer–bound 2–amido–5–amino–1,3,4–thiadiazole resin by the cyclization of thiosemicarbazide resin using p–TsCl as the desulfurative agent, followed by the functionalization of resin by alkylation, acylation, alkylation/acylation, and Suzuki coupling reaction. Both the alkylation and acylation reactions chemoselectively occurred at the 2–amide position of 2–amido–5–amino–1,3,4–thiadiazole resin and the 5–amine position of 2–amido–5–amino–1,3,4–thiadiazole resin, respectively. It is effective for building fluency, since students can focus on their speaking. Additionally, they help to keep students focused on instruction. Students monitor their own reading and the classroom is usually quiet because students are encouraged to whisper (hence the name) so that all students can hear themselves (Cadieux, 2012). This strategy is a simple one: practice. The more students practice, the better they will read. At some point, students will no longer need to fully focus on decoding. Instead, they can read with fluency. It is important to select fun books when going about this. Students should want to read their books. Shel Silverstein's works, for example. The poet's stories are short and entertaining. Partner Reading is a cooperative learning strategy in which two students work together to read a text. The Partner Reading strategy allows students to take turns reading and provide each other with feedback as a way to monitor (Classroom Strategies Partner Reading, n.d.). Students who are struggling readers work well as partners. They may be partnered with a student who is a better reader, for additional support. Alternatively, when provided support, they may be partnered with another student at the same level, letting them know they are not alone. In this case, a group of three, with the strongest reader in class might be helpful. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Time Value of Money Abstract The first steps toward understanding the relationship between the value of dollars today and that of dollars in the future is by looking at how funds invested will grow over time. This understanding will allow one to answer such questions as; how much should be invested today to produce a specified future sum of money? Time Value of Money In most cases, borrowing money is not free, unless it is a fiver for lunch from a friend. Interest is the cost of borrowing money. An interest rate is the cost stated as a percent of the amount borrowed per a period of time, usually one year. The current market rates are composed of three items. The Real Rate of Interest is what compensates lenders for postponing their own spending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Opportunity cost is a basic term from the disciplines of economics and accounting. The acceptable definition of the term is, "The advantage forgone as the result of the acceptance of an alternative." For example, the opportunity cost of a single glass of beer is about $7.00. The generally accepted Opportunity Cost factor, including inflation, is 6.7. Therefore, that $1.00 glass of beer cost the buyer about $7.00 in future earnings. Opportunity cost is an important concept in financial decision–making. There is a useful rule of thumb for incorporating opportunity cost into financial decision–making. If faced with a spend–or–invest trade–off and deciding to pay off debt, subtract the projected income earned on the investment to calculate a net savings. If deciding to invest, subtract the projected interest paid off on the debt to calculate net savings. The Rule of 72 is a simple financial rule that simply states that investments will double its initial amount every 72 periods that it is compounded. The formula is written like this: 72/r where: r = the rate of return per period. In other words, an initial amount such as $1000 which has a fixed rate of return of 20% will double itself in just over three and a half years, 72/20 = 3.6. This kind of financial equation is very handy to use when you need to compare investment opportunities or loans such as home loans. The Rule of 72 is commonly used in all areas of personal finance and financial planning,

Substitution of a new group for a hydrogen atom takes place via a resonance–stabilized carbocation. Substituted benzenes tend to react at predictable positions. Alkyl groups and other electron–donating substituents enhance substitution and direct it toward the ortho and para positions. She did most of the reading, but every once in a while she picked one of the students to take over. I think that this was a great way to handle the book that they were reading because there was some difficult vocabulary in the section that they read that day. This style helped me to realize that even though they are in 4 th grade, the students do not have to be responsible for all of the reading all of the time. It is a good thing to give them a break every so often and just let them enjoy the story through following along. However, I did like that she would stop about every other paragraph and ask questions about tough vocabulary and what was happening in the story. This is a great way to make sure that the students were really following along and not staring at the floor or off into space. She also was able to insert a minilesson review on using context clues to figure out the meaning of an unknown word. Since she knew which students would be comfortable reading the material in front of the whole class and which would not, the teacher was able to choose the confident readers to do the reading aloud and have the others answer the questions. With buddy reading, I think that it is a great way for a strong reader to help a struggling reader. Cattywampus is a word that I have grown up hearing in my house. To me it means messy, disorganized, and to say the least discombobulated. The etymology of a word does not always have to be symbolic; sometimes there is an actual historical story behind it. My mom still tells me today that my room, car, or myself are all "cattywampus" and that I should fix it. In Cherokee folklore, there is a beast which lurks at night called "Ewah" or wampus cat. Ewah was a woman who disguised herself in the skin of a cougar to spy on the men of the tribe. The men would sit around the campfire with their "wolf brothers", and tell sacred stories on their journeys or hunting trips (Anderson). While spying on the men, she was discovered. The men took her to the tribe's medicine man/ shaman; the shaman punished her by transforming her into what she disguised herself as...half–woman, half–cat (Conley). Emission-Excitation Matrices INTRODUCTION Emission–Excitation Matrices (EEMs) are three–dimensional fluorescence data that provide information about the composition of fluorescent chemical mixtures. They constitute optical landscapes that extend over the dimensions of excitation and emission wavelengths {О»ex–О»em}, and where fluorophores appear in the form of peaks. In the field of marine and freshwater biogeochemistry, EEMs have been used for the study of dissolved organic matter (DOM), being a comprehensive analytical technique with which to characterise a highly complex mixture of organic compounds (Hudson2006, Fellman2010, Nebbioso2013). Indeed, EEMs have served to advance scientific knowledge about the ecology and biogeochemistry of DOM in aquatic systems [1,2]. Most importantly, they have contributed to evidence that some fractions of DOM are highly reactive organic molecules that are involved in numerous ecosystem processes, such as bacterial uptake [3–5], metal binding [6,7][1,2][1,2], photoreactivity [8–10] and light attenuation [11]. Overall these findings suggest the major involvement of DOM in the global carbon cycle [12,13]. Despite the great potential for EEMs to increase knowledge about DOM behaviour in the environment, their interpretation and statistical treatment remain a challenge [14]. The spectral shapes of EEMs are complex mixtures of multiple and overlapping independent fluorescence phenomena, caused by the wide range of organic molecules contained in DOM. • 38. Organic Chemistry Assignment : Organic Chemical Compounds Organic Chemistry Assignment By: Shirelle Cogan 1a) Organic compounds: C3H4, C8H10, CH3CH2CH2CH3, Benzene Inorganic compounds: H2CO2 (aq), CO2 Why? We know that organic compounds always contain carbon bonds with hydrogen, but not all molecules containing carbon are organic. They can be carbon hydrogen bonds, carbides and carbonates. b) C6H10= alkene, Name: 1,2–hexdiene C3H4= alkene, Name= 1,3–propdiene CH3CH2CH2CH3= alkane, Name= Butane Benzene= aromatic substance, Formula= C6H6 C) I would expect 1,2–hexdiene and 1,2–propdiene to be the most reactive elements due to the fact that they include double bonds. These are more reactive than single bonds because single bonds only have one electron being "shared" rather than two. The more electrons being fought over, the more "aggressive" the bond is meaning is unstable and very reactive. Butane would not be very reactive due to the fact that it is made op of only single bonds meaning that there is not as much fighting/ aggression between two atoms therefore causing it to be more stable. Additionally, in benzene (a cycloalkene), because the double bonds are continuous throughout the ring, they are evenly distributed throughout the molecule creating a stronger bond and lower reactivity. 2a) b) First name: oct (8 carbons in main chain) Last name: yne (involves a triple bond) 1: triple bond is at carbon atom number one 3,4: branches are at carbon atoms numbered 3 and 4 with only

THE EFFECT OF BICARBONATE SODA ON THE PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF A BAKED CUP CAKE Introduction Atoms are the building blocks for all living and non–living substances. All atoms of form a chemical element and when these elements are put together, in countless combinations, these atoms give all known forms of matter. Molecules are groups of atoms bonded together, representing the smallest fundamental unit of a chemical compound that can take part in a chemical reaction. A compound is a substance that is formed with two of more atoms that a chemically bonded together. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This reaction will not occur without the reactants receiving enough energy or activation energy to break the chemical bonds. When baking a cake, each ingredient has a certain role which combines to make the final product. When the flour is added with the liquids in the cake mixture and placed in the oven, it expands to many times its original volume and helps the cake set with a light and aerated texture. This process allows the gluten increase the elasticity of the batter so that the mixture can expand and set with it falling apart. The beaten egg white in the cake mixture helps to retain gas and acts like a binder. However, if the whole egg is used the lecithin in the egg acts as a binder which holds the whole substance together. More than when there is just the egg white because the lecithin increases the strength of the bonds between substances in the mixture. The eggs are also used as an emulsifier or a moistener and are also used as a source of natural fat in the cake. Salt is used in cake mixtures to enhance the flavour of the cake and to also "toughen up" the sugar and fat elements of the cake. Sugar is used in cake mixtures to brown the outside of the baked good, forming a crust as the sugar starts undergoing reactions above 160 degrees. Sugar is also added to sweeten the taste of the cake. Bicarbonate soda is crystalline inorganic salt. Baking powder is used in baking to make the baked good rise. (3.5 pts) Insert the cDNA of all the olfactory GPCRs into E. coli and purify out all the olfactory GPCR proteins. For each GPCR protein, have one control reaction with just the GPCR, and one experimental reaction where the GPCR is incubated with the peach extract. Do this for all the olfactory GPCRs. Run all the samples on a gel. If a compound in the peach extract is the ligand for a specific GPCR, it will cause a conformational change in that GPCR. This will cause the band on the gel to shift relative to the control reaction for that GPCR. This will allow us to identify which GPCRs are associated with the peach scent. Step 2:... Pertussis toxin locks GЙ‘i in the GDP bound inactive conformation, this would reduce the duration and extent of the scent. Inhibitors or Activators of Adenylate Cyclase. Activators of Adenylate Cyclase would cause production of cAMP, which is a second messenger. This would amplify the signal and increase the extent of the scent. Inhibitors of adenylate cyclase would do the opposite, there would be no and very little cAMP, which would result in little of no amplification of the signal, reducing the extent of the scent. • 43. A Brief Note On Gold Nanoparticle Sensor Augmentation Essay DISCUSSION In order to improve the range of the electronic' nose, the following must be considered in order to effectively detect cancers. Primarily, types of cancer must be tested to determine if they contain compounds detectable by dogs, which would indicate that said specific cancer contains odors that are possible to be detected through an electronic nose. Secondly, a database must be compiled of all the different detectable compounds that are unique to each type cancer through scientific research. After these two steps are complete, a gold–nanoparticle sensor must be designed in order detect compounds specific to each cancer. All in all, the improved electronic nose will be susceptible to detect cancers it was unable to smell before. The following are the steps involved in this recommendation and illustrate the processes needed to carry out this project. Cancer Detectability Cancer Compounds Gold–Nanoparticle Sensor Augmentation Cancer Detectability To be able to improve the existing electronic nose technology that detects cancers via chemical compounds, it is required that those compounds are feasible to be detected by a dog. If there is documented history of dogs accurately detecting a specific type of cancer in humans, or a recent scientific confirmation that the said specific cancer is odorously detectable through the unique chemical compounds, then the detection of said type of cancer is feasibly detectable with electronic noses Otherwise, the cancer may not ... Internet is a huge media to allow humans connect each other. Whatever are the events in one part of the world, will quickly be recognized by those who are on the other side. By the development of information technology, people now are able to have a social relationship in internet. The media which enable them to establish a relationship virtually are called as social networks (or social media). Numerous social networks are widely used today. Facebook, twitter, Blackberry Messenger, and WhatsApp are few of them, following the steps of Friendster as the pioneer back then. Some features like chatting and video call are what people served with. However, chatting and calling are not the only things we can do in social networks. There is also trading as one of the most rapid activities people do other than those basic functions. As media with almost no charge needed in using them, social networks are very powerful tools of promotion for those who just start a small business, or want to run the business with limited time, access and budget. They can be used also to sell unused stuffs. Massive number of users, especially facebook, has created a big market and opportunities for sellers to trade their products. It is also very useful when someone wants to look for the things he needs and buys, without have to get the new one with higher price. Trading forums as a modified form of facebook group is a feature provided by facebook that allows its members to sell things. In selling things through posts, they often (with or without they realize) created and used special forms of terms or modified words. Evidently, the languages used by those members are very different from what usually used in daily conversation. It is even different from slang language commonly used in chatting or sms. • 51. What Makes A Word Essay Posted–30/05/2015 by Iain Campbell What Makes a Word, a Word? If a new word or neologism is not created by a lexicographer (the person who compiles a dictionary), or any individual, then who decides what words will be a part of the English language? The speakers of the language are who choose what words are used and which are not. It's the day to day users of the language introducing and maintaining words, this is what evolves and shapes the way the English language is spoken and understood by the people who use it. There are a number ways in which a new word can be introduced into any given language, in this post I will focus on the English language and the techniques commonly used to make new words in the language. Not only does a word need to be created to 'be part' of a language but it needs to be used as part of the language regularly to be well recognised and accepted by the speakers, and there for an official word in the language. Shared Words The first way a word can be made is through a different language sharing or 'donating' a word with another language or country. An English example of this technique would be the word 'ninja' which English speakers took from the Japanese and now is sometimes recognised as an English word. Once the word is taken from a language the pronunciation and origins of the word become lost with time and people can forget or are not able to tell that the word has foreign origins. Similarly Caramel is 'stolen' from another language and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
