The Importance Of Lifelong Learning
In a developing world, in which society and technology are evolving at an exponential rate, lifelong learning has become in the way to promote
personal development and enhance social incorporation. Knowledge is not acquired only in classrooms or in any educative institution, but in reality,
knowledge is obtained by engaging and interacting with a society that grows along the world. Therefore, it is important to understand of the need for,
and the ability to engage in lifelong learning. This process happens on a daily basis and is the responsibility of each person to engage in a continuous
learning process.
For many people who engage in higher education, it is believed that the learning process stops when a title, degree, or diploma is ... Show more content

Many European countries want 15% of all adults that are in ages between 25 and 64 to participate in at least one learning activity (Ellen p.3). For
developing countries, lifelong learning activities promote literacy skills and better opportunities in employment promoting economic growth among
the population.
After the first decade of the 21st century, Lifelong learning has become in the primary tool to face common global challenges such as poverty,
economic breakdowns, and climate change (10.1007, p.xlix). The importance of embracing lifelong education allows people to understand this issues
with better self knowledge and how to respond to them with confidence. An example of lifelong learning implementation is Hungary. In the 1990s, the
Hungarian government proposed a national modernization plan, in which substantial resources were used to improve regional equality in rural areas,
promote self–sustaining development in communities, and facilitate labor market flexibility. This was accomplished by adopting lifelong learning as a
way of re–training communities in rural areas (9199 p.52) . Access to this education was found in vocational education systems and in enterprises
willing to invest in work based training providing better skills to their employees; some of these companies contributed about 1.5% of their total
payroll (9199 p.58).

Music Literacy And Its Influence On Music
Although technique and natural talent are big factors in music performing, it is suggested that a major skill needed for a developing music performer is
the ability to sight–read (Paul), which is an important factor in acquiring and expanding music literacy (Gromko). However, music literacy is a
compositional ability that requires many different abilities (Gromko, Lehmann and Ericson).
In relation to studies on English literacy acquisition techniques, little research has been conducted on music literacy. In what research has been done, it
is shown that music literacy and sight–reading ability acquisition has not an exact pedagogical technique or theory (Hodges). Given this, a review that
examines the research of variables and predictors of sight–reading abilities and music literacy knowledge acquisition has yet to be done. The purpose
of this review is to synthesize published articles on the research of music literacy to help give a better perspective on the variables that affect the
acquisition of music reading skills. Experiments, a national survey, and general observations were used in this review.
First, the techniques and observations that are used to teach music literacy to musicians will be evaluated. Next, eye pattern movements that have been
observed while reading music will be reviewed. Lastly, variables that affect the acquisition of music literacy and the success ofsight reading will be
introduced.

Proposal On Adult Literacy
Final Proposal
Introduction:
Little is known for acquiring literacy. As Quigley (1997) claimed, we actually barely know about those who were studied in the literacy studies.
According to a study conducted by the U.S. Department of Education and the National Institute of Literacy, 32 million adults in the U.S. can't read.
That's about 14 percent of the population. It is a call for researchers to draw attention on developing adult literacy program. Admittedly, many articles
discuss about adult literacy levels and their participation in a general view (Kutner, Greenberg, & Baer, 2005; U.S. Department of Education
Co–operation and Development), but this article intends to focus on a case study of low literacy adult learners in ESL (English as a second language)
reading context. The main point of this research was to observe how the reading acquisition happened in LLA (Low Literacy Adult). Are there any
useful learning strategies for LLA reading? In broad prospect, the research eagers to enlighten those who teach and instruct ESL adult learners.
Literature:
1.Discussion about Literacy
Literacy is a fundamental social skill in our life. Many past studies of adult literacy have tried to count the "low literacy" in the U.S, evaluating
literacy as a simple checklist that individuals either do or do not have, however, the definition of the literacy are still argued in the teaching field that
many researchers think it's too simple to narrow down the literacy into rigid categories.

Why Death Should Be Important For All Philosophers And How...
In Plato's Phaedo, Socrates is preparing for his death following his trial in Plato's Apology. He engages in an discussion with Simmias and Cebes
about why death should be important to all philosophers and how one goes about acquiring knowledge. Socrates explains that the pursuit of
knowledge, or wisdom, should be the life goal of a philosopher. This explanation hinges on the fact that death makes possible the acquisition of
knowledge. However, the issue that I will focus on in this paper is the way Socrates the acquisition of knowledge. He believes that the body is impure,
and the soul only acquires knowledge after death in an "In–Between" state when by itself. Simmias and Cebes don't raise an issue with this
explanation; however, I do. Socrates does not definitively prove that the soul is acquiring knowledge during this "In–Between" state, nor does he
consider the alternative theory that the soul can acquire knowledge in the body, but consolidates and identifies the truth of this knowledge after death.
In this paper, I will investigate this alternative theory and show how it is possible according to Socrates' standards.
As Socrates is preparing for his execution, he defines what death is to Simmias and Cebes and explains the significance of death. As one will see,
this is the beginning of the standards he sets for how the soul acquires knowledge. He describes how it is "better at certain times and for certain
people to die than to live . . . those from whom it is better

Cave Of The Cave Socrates Cave Analysis
In the history of the cave in Book VII of the Republic of Plato, Socrates attempts to convince his disciple Glaucon of the state in which most of the
human beings are regarding the knowledge of truth and ignorance, illustrating his disciple in Questions concerning wisdom. (514a)
Socrates attempts with the metaphor of the cave to explain how the prisoners represent the majority of human beings, who are enslaved by their
ignorance and are unaware of it. Therefore they remain to cling to their customs and false beliefs as always. These prisoners, like most men, believe
that they know and feel happy in their ignorance. Between the prisoners and the light are what Socrates called puppeteers who play the role of making
prisoners think an unreal life–based

The Human Experience : An Abstract Concept Essay
Many things in life are exceptionally difficult to place into strict formulated categories and the way one acquires new knowledge is no exception.
Leaders in education are still trying to place students into learning categories that they can understand and control. These attempts have not been
successful because not only do we all learn in different ways, but the way in which we attain knowledge is diversified by our ever–changing present
circumstances. Human beings and their experiences are complex and diverse and should be imagined as such. Acquiring knowledge is an abstract
concept that is happening constantly and rapidly. The human experience is full of constant acquisition of knowledge that comes to us through our own
self–inquiry and the influence of others. Humans are conditioned to live in community and, therefore, base their understanding of themselves off their
interactions with others. Since the beginning of time people have lived and thrived in communities, and to this day communal living is still universally
present. Whether I am in my church community, theatre community, or my community of learners, I am learning from the people around me.
Interactions span from conversations with different people about their outlook on life, to quietly observing our differences and similarities. With any of
this interaction you are learning from others who you are in relation to them. David G. Myers discusses in "Ingroup and Outgroup" how people base

Analyzing The Statement, Learning And Cognition Are...
Sittig
Final Fall 2016
1.
I believe the statement, learning and cognition are fundamentally situated means that acquiring knowledge and achieving meaningful learning is
accomplished by applying new concepts in authentic situations. Authentic situations are every day, real–world situations that are of interest to students.
It is learning that is relevant and immerses students in solving problems by participating in activities that will help them transfer knowledge gained to
new situations. This type of learning helps students to be self–motivated, take control of their own learning, and begin to pose further questions. This
directly pertains to inquiry learning.
As a librarian, we can situate cognitive learning by creating opportunities for students. By taking a broad concept and helping students explore and
connect its effect on their personal lives creates authentic situations. Librarians should collaborate with teachers and create these learning opportunities.
We can provide resources and materials that help students explore their talents, interests, and abilities. We can also help students expand their learning
in the classroom by helping them further explore topics according to their learning styles and interest. It is our responsibility to provide students with
resources and materials that reach beyond the school walls that encourage learning and doing.
This was mentioned by Ken Robinson in two of his Ted Talks. He spoke of how schools are killing creativity and

Open Innovation Is Becoming Increasingly Important For...
In a world of intense global competition, demand for specialised skills to match increasing product complexity as well as the speed of technological
advances and innovations; open innovation is becoming increasingly important for firms' competitive advantage (Ranft & Lord, 2002 and Lawson &
Samson, 2001 and Howells et al., 2003). These external pressures are becoming too demanding for a firm's internal capabilities and there has been a
shift from internal research and development, to acquiring external capabilities in a bid for open innovation. (Howells et al., 2008). These acquisitions
can be sourced through joint ventures, collaborations or licensing (Howells et al., 2008).
The acquisition of technological capabilities from external sources, as well as how these capabilities are then used effectively in the firm are two trends
which are becoming increasingly important for the management of knowledge technology in the firm. Powell (1998, p229), focuses on a firm's
capability for learning both "how and when organizations are able to combine their existing competencies with the abilities of others." Knowledge
management is the concept of identifying, and assess the capabilities of a company, to decide what needs to be sourced externally, which in turn creates
this competitive advantage for the firm (Gupta et al., 2000).
In this essay, I am going to critically analyse the acquisition of technological external sources, and the benefits and issues this may bring the firm, and

Constructivist Approaches to Acquiring Knowledge
The process of learning and acquiring knowledge is a very interesting and complex task. The constructivist approach of learning was first
expressed by Dewey (1936) in the early 20th century. Dewey has identified a progressive model based on philosophy Rousseau's writing and on
psychological knowledge. Piaget, J. (1973) study in early adolescent's psychological development of discover, or reconstruct by rediscovery,
Bruner's (1973) theory of indicating learning as a social process which comprised of various interactions to knowledge gain and many researchers
(Montessori (1946); Kolb & Fry (1975); etc) have seen embarked on Dewey's initial constructivism and discover it as one of the best teaching to be
used in education. Physical educators ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author had proven that a constructivist classroom produces more learning than the traditional classroom.
An excellent study of applying constructivist theory by Banet and Ayuso (2003) have shown that a more in–depth study of the students' interest and an
ongoing analysis of the classroom setting is useful to increase the students 'understanding and results. They explored classroom atmosphere and
implemented teaching approaches that allow students' feedback and deepen their knowledge. This study also mentioned that the traditional constructs
of the students' knowledge, cognitive abilities, and the stages of cognitive development were unable to solve the problems. As compared to traditional
learning, students will acquire a more comprehensive knowledge of the subject.
However, many educators have misunderstood the concept of constructivist teaching (Baviskar et al, 2009). In Huffman et al (2003) studies,
technology was engaged as a useful constructivist tool to assist teachers to create a constructivist learning environment. However, confounding factors
found in the study for example, the step by step instructions interaction between the teacher, students and the technology did not create any new
learning or knowledge for the students. Baviskar et al (2009) highlighted that by using group works in the classroom as a constructivist educational tool,
may not necessarily be constructivist

How Dangerous is the Acquirement of Knowledge?
Mary Shelly's Frankenstein
Although Mary Shelly did not have a formal education growing up motherless in the early nineteenth century, she wrote one of the greatest novels
nonetheless in 1819, Frankenstein. The novel has been the basis for many motion picture movies along with many English class discussions. Within
the novel Shelly shares the stories of two men from very different worlds. The reader is introduced to Robert Walton, the main narrator of the story,
through letters written to his sister. Walton is on a quest to find the North Pole when his ship and crew members become stuck between sheets of ice. It
is here the reader is then introduced to Victor Frankenstein who is lost and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here Walton is acting like the young child, being selfish to the needs and safety of his crew only caring about himself and the knowledge he can
attain within this adventure. After telling Victor Frankenstein this, Victor looks shocked and replies to Walton, "You seek for knowledge and
wisdom, as I once did, and I ardently hope for the gratification of your wishes may not be a serpent and sting you, as mine has been." (Shelly 28).
This quote represents the guilt and regret found within Victor's life that lead from the want and desire of knowledge. Victor Frankenstein was a
young boy, born in Naples, who wanted to explore and figure out what was just beyond his reach through science. "My temper was sometimes
violent, and my passions vehement, but by some law in my temperature they were turned, not towards childish pursuits, but to an eager desire to
learn... It was the secrets of heaven and earth that I desired to learn," (Shelly 37). At the age of thirteen Victor read a work of Cornelius Agrippa's, a
German physician who was persecuted during his life for his mystical philosophies, while vacationing off the French shore of Lake Geneva. After
reading Agrippa, Victor's feelings toward natural philosophy soon changed into enthusiasm, and he continued to read other author's including
Paracelsus and Albertus Magnus. "I read and studied the wild fancies of these writers with delight, they appeared to me

Language helps the student to store knowledge.
The next law, leads us to the Law of the Lesson. This refers to the core of teaching. The advancement of knowledge means introducing new information
and helping students to grasp it. A good teacher will find familiar information and examples to bring up when introducing a new truth. A student needs
to know of a "known" to understand the "unknown." The new information should be explained until the student is able to understand the new truth.
A student has the ability to learn without a teacher. However, the Law of the Teaching Process creates the background for a teacher to guide a student
on the path to more knowledge. A teacher should establish a safe environment that encourages thinking to help students learn "the unknown by the way
of the known" (84). Acquiring their knowledge and increasing their mental power correlates to the aims of a teacher as they guide students. While a
teacher is to be passionate in laying out knowledge, the really work of an education, acquiring knowledge, is the work of the student. A student learns
by discovery and information stores as the student interprets the new information.
The Law of Review refers to more than simply repetition. This law refers to increasing the mental capacity as the original idea is coupled with new
concepts and associations. Review allows the student to dig deeper into the subject, and often, students discover hidden truths

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Second Language Acquisition
Second language acquisition is a process whereby people learn an additional language on top of their native ones. Learning a second language can be
functional to oneself especially when communicating with a person whom you do not have a common language with. In acquiring the second
language, there will be difficulties that one might face as compared to acquiring the first language, which makes it harder to acquire. Our mother tongue
is easier to learn as we would have been brought up by our parents or grandparents that speak the language. Learning a second language can be difficult
as we are not brought up for that language and would not know the basis of it. Some factors that makes it hard is the age of the learner, experience, the

This refers to the way the learner understands, analyze and interpret the information he/she accumulates. Without proper understanding, the language
can be misused and might lead to social arguments. In cognitive style, there are two different types that plays a part – Field independence and Field
dependence. Field independence is whereby the learner analyzes the information and branching out the most relevant to the irrelevant information that
helps his or her study of the language. Field dependence on the other hand is the opposite whereby the learner takes into account all the information
without highlighting the key points. It is important for earners to adopt cognitive styles to ensure that they have understood the language thoroughly so
as to not make any mistakes while communicating. The best style to adopt would be the Field Independence. By noting down the specific points, a

this stage is being followed during the acquisition of the second language, the learner can better understand how the language is truly spoken. (Parker

Throughout the SAGE 230 course many question have been raised on the human condition such as; What it means to live just and good? How do we
best order relationships for the common good? What do we know and how do we know it? these themes have been recurrent in the stories of
Gilgamesh, the Bible, Plato's Cave and the Oedipus Trilogy. Further analysis has shown that to live a just and good life is to first gainknowledge and

To live a just and good life in this sense is to have a system of moral values that you follow and accept but is socially approved and accepted by others.
However the just and good life is a complex that plagues human nature because on one hand we strive to live in a way that is morally right and
socially approved on the other hand we have to balance self sacrifice and determine what we value to be good because what is good to one person may
not be good to another. In this vein of thinking Plato would say a just life refers to a person who possesses a good character and a sense of
responsibility almost to the point of subservience moreover has reached the peak of knowledge and understanding because it is

Analyse The Importance Of Acquiring Literacy Skills

required skill is one of the most crucial elements of school and as soon as any student would understand that, then learning would be much more
interesting, comfortable and passion filled. Many students all read the same way, to get a gist of the material and not to understand. Understanding

Epistemology is the theory of knowledge. Al–Ghazali was a Muslim philosopher. He had his own stand on epistemology. He thought that people can

The Relationship of "Allegory of the Cave" to Learning and Education
The "Allegory of the Cave" is Plato's attempt to explain the relationship between knowledge and ignorance. Starting with the image of men in fetters
that limit their movement and force them to look only ahead, this is the idea that all men and women are bound by the limits of their ignorance. Men
and women are restricted by the limits of the education of their parents and the small amounts that can be culled from their environment. Images and

the first realization of education; past truths are either put into perspective or proven false. Either way our mind is finally opening up to the ideas and
images that have evaded us for so long. The ability to reason is building within us and we start to question all things past we knew to be true. The eyes
start to see even more now and the pain has subsided. We are ravenous and cannot seem to get enough of our surroundings. The strangestthing starts to

different ways. First, the more knowledge that we acquire, the more ability we seem to have for the future acquisition of knowledge. Its as if we are
not limited by the container we use to store this information, on the contrary, we now have discovered that its depths are limitless. Secondly, the more
knowledge we acquire, the more confidence we seem to find in regards to taking on bigger challenges and tasks.

The novel About A Boy, by Nick Hornby, depicts the life of a social outcast named Marcus, who is sheltered from the outside world by his mother,
and is just trying to be accepted by society. While on the path to achieving this goal, Marcus obtains a newly found self knowledge, within himself, as
a direct result of the obstacles and conflicts he faces. There are many obstacles which exemplify how Marcus obtains self knowledge about himself; one
was between him and his mother, Fiona. Fiona was very controlling over Marcus' life, and the day–to–day activities in which he engaged. For instance,
she chose which type of music he will listen to and what style of clothing he will wear, these controlling factors over Marcus' life caused him to ... Show

Also, the incident of Fiona's attempted suicide assisted Marcus in realizing that even though it may seem to him that he is an alien to the everyday
societal changes of the world, he understands that what his mother had done for him in the past was beneficial to him now, because he apprehends that
she knows what is best for him and what will be most beneficial to him. Acquiring this newly found self knowledge aids Marcus further on his path to
self discovery. Another ordeal that is represented in thenovel About A Boy is the ongoing conflict between an individual and his peers. Similarly,
this continuous conflict is emphasized greatly within the relationship between Marcus and his fellow classmates. As a result of Marcus veering off
of the many, absurd rules of society, he is bullied by his classmates and picked on everyday at school. Consequently, Marcus seeks refuge, from the
abuse he endures daily, by befriending fellow classmates Nicky and Mark. After Marcus does acquire a friendship with these two boys, he is
abandoned because he was also causing them to be bullied. Marcus does however meet someone like him, who doesn't follow the laws set by society.
Ellie befriends Marcus after multiple encounters with him at the vending machine, as a result of this friendship; Ellie and Marcus are arrested while on
their way to Cambridge. Marcus then realizes that his life cannot be based entirely on making impetuous decisions, but more so on analyzing the event

tends to be more effective because it increases learning effectiveness since the students can be able to ask questions. Those who opt for traditional
learning is due to the fact that it increases social interaction in learning and this helps in creating better understanding of subjects and social life

The other concept that needs clarification is personal development. Personal development includes activities that improve awareness and identity,
develop talents and potential, build human capital and facilitate employability, enhance quality of life and contribute to the realization of dreams and
aspirations. When personal development takes place in the context of institutions, it refers to the methods, programs, tools, techniques, and assessment

Language Acquiring And Learning By Helen Keller
The story from an autobiography written by a famous African–American human rights activist impresses and provides the readers with understanding
of the need to broaden one's language knowledge with assistance of any means. Besides providing understanding of the language importance, the
readers are driven to the conclusion that a person can reach any heights if there is a strong wish. On an example of Malcolm X, who came from poor
background and was unable to get education because of his black skin, it is clear that any attempts and strong wish can result in positive image and new
knowledge. The motivation to develop and improve his skills by constant copying words from the dictionary to a tablet can inspire many readers to act.

Becoming An Online Student: A Conceptual Analysis
Upon embarking on new pathways of understanding and learning, it is very important that I maintain the strength of faith and trust that this is exactly
what and where God has designed for me to be. Perspective and experience play a big part of this because as an online student there are certain areas
of uncomfortability and uncertainty that are faced such as the total dependence on technology and being completely in control of the speed at which
the information is absorbed. While I have confidence and determination to put forth my best effort to succeed and achieve the ultimate goal of

Sociocultural Theory Of Second Language Acquisition
The sociocultural theory of second language acquisition has provided me with the strongest reasons for reconsidering my previous views on second
language learning. Vygotsky proposed a sociocultural theory that is very influential within the field of second language learning. The focus was on the
idea that all learning is primarily social. The connections between people and the sociocultural context in which they interact with one another are
crucial. Through interaction in shared experiences new knowledge is obtained. This perspective emphasizes the social nature of learning and examines
the complex and dynamic social interaction involved in the process of learning a second language. According to Vygotsky the cognitive and social
processes in acquiring a second language are inseparable. Social interaction has a vital role in the process of cognitive development. Individuals start
out in society and culture and only become individualized when they separate themselves from what is taking place. Learning takes place in
sociocultural contexts and behavior is learned by reacting to other people. Information is gained first socially and then becomes internalized. Vygotsky
thought that learning took place on two different levels. Learning took place on the first level by interacting with others and then on the second level
information is internalized into the individual's mental structure. He talks about two different functions inter–mental and intra–mental. Intermental

Summary Of Novum Organum By Bacon
In Book I, sections xix–xxx of Novum Organum by Bacon, Bacon is talking about acquiring knowledge. He starts by stating that there are two possible
ways of acquiring knowledge. The first way is by collecting information and data through the senses and from there jumping to conclusions. The second
way is by collecting information, but instead of jumping to conclusions one gradually ascends to these conclusions. By this, he means that there must
be time and thought put into it in order to come to the conclusions. Bacon claims that the way that is used now is the first way, however, the best way
is the second (Bacon 42). Next, Bacon explains that people tend to acquire knowledge using the first way because people are lazy. The second way
requires work and labor and people don't like work so they take the simplest route possible. Acquiring knowledge the second way cause fatigue and
people like to go through life in the simplest and easiest way so they use the first way (Bacon 42).
When a patient man with a reflecting nature makes an attempt at the second way (understanding) there is little effect. This is because understanding is
unequal to the task of overcoming the obscurity of things. In other words, understanding is not equivalent to comprehending the obscure or abnormal
qualities of nature (Bacon 42).
Both of the two ways begins with observation and collecting data. Likewise, both end with general truths or self–evident truths about nature. However,
just because they

Do people ever know enough about themselves to determine the direction of their career journey? Various strategies have been developed to provide
guidance toward this end; however, as the realities of work change due to such factors as global competition and new technologies, it is necessary to
develop new awareness of self in relation to work. This Digest examines various processes by which learners of all ages, elementary to adult, can

Experience is integral to knowing and understanding oneself and how one relates to different situations, circumstances, and roles.
Experiential Methods for Acquiring Self–Knowledge
Many of the new ways of teaching and learning offer processes by which students can gain experiences that enhance their self–knowledge. One of these
is problem–based learning, an instructional model based on constructivism, the concept that learners construct their own understanding by relating
concrete experience to existing knowledge; processes of collaboration and reflection are involved. In problem–based learning, students are presented
with an ill–structured problem––one that has no obvious solution and for which problem–solvers cannot be certain they have the right answer. The
problem must be content relevant and represent a real situation faced by an individual, group, company, or community. Solving the problem takes
students through the following processes (Savoie and Hughes 1994):
Engagement. Problem–based learning requires students to self–direct their search for a solution, often by assuming the role of a key actor in the
problem situation, e.g., a lawyer, an environmentalist, a statistician, and so forth.Inquiry. Students brainstorm with others and gather information from

At the start of the games simulation, the team had articulated its vision, goals, and a well–thought–out strategic plan. However, well into the first

While acquiring knowledge is a positive development for professional growth, the application of the knowledge in the practical situation requires some
level of experience, integration, and cooperation. Group activities prepare learners to take up professional responsibilities by providing an opportunity
to share and apply knowledge from different sources to complete a task. The concept of positive competition also contributes immensely towards both
personal and professional development. In a business setting, learning from competition provides a new entrant in the market with knowledge and
understanding of the market dynamics such as pricing, regulatory requirement, and customer support.
2. What challenges have you encountered in working as a group for the Mikes Bikes game? What changes are you personally intending to make to
improve the group's effectiveness for the remainder of the game? Note – focus on strategies to improve your effectiveness in working as a group, not
what strategies you will do to improve the performance of your company in the game.
Although our group achieved some level of success in the project, there were many challenging occasions ranging from the significant disagreement of
the most effective move, to communication breakdown among some team members. While the challenges may have cost the team significant progress,
they also offered relevant insight into our personal flaws which, if addresses appropriately, would result in improved personal and professional growth

Differences Between Two Conceptual Frameworks For...
Introduction
The overall intent of this paper is to show a comparison from two articles (Chao, Chiu, Chan, Denton, & Kwok, 2013; Koo & Nishimura, 2013) in
order to be able to wholly comprehend the similarities and differences between two conceptual frameworks for acquiring knowledge and information,
those being that of learning and cognition. Through a comparison of the two conjoint terms of learning and cognition, an exploration will take place
involving the application of the theories, and their relevance to adopting technology in a work setting.
Comparison of the Purposes
Simply put, learning and cognition are among the most essential enterprises that individuals take part in. They are in all actuality the focal point of all
activities in which one undertakes. Whether in an educational setting or outside of school, learning and cognition both involve the ways in which
different individuals come to know or learn new realities and knowhow about life and the world around them. On the whole, learning and cognition are
equally indispensable in that these aspects are interrelated influences on the thinking process. However, cognition involves much more than the ability
to acquire new information. Kelly (2014) asserts that ccognition has to do with the ability to think critically and questions the new information, to
analyze different solutions, to explore widely and deeply, to examine without end or outside of the typical learning box, in order to grow intellectually.

Mentoring Essay
Introduction Mentoring is a very common technique used in work environments and educational institutions to allow for less experience employees to
gain more understanding of concepts and skills. Through mentoring, the mentee is able to further develop skills and knowledge with the assistance of a
more knowledgeable mentor (Garg, 2014). As mentoring requires pairing up a mentor with his/her protГ©gГ©, finding individuals with similar work

As these two have an already established connection, knowledge and skill transfer becomes considerably easier between them. Peter is able to gain
valuable information from one of the company's most senior members. Not only will Peter benefit but so will Frances through the mentoring
experience. As mentioned by Noe & Peacock (2008), "mentoring relationships provide opportunities for mentors to develop their interpersonal skills"
(p. 238). Frances will benefit by acquiring mentoring experience and even interpersonal skills such as listening or verbal communication through her
interactions and mentoring of Peter. As stated by Snowden and Hardy (2013), "the mentor enables the mentee's time to be used more productively, and
make best use of the resources available by accessing the 'inside knowledge' that the mentor possesses" (p. 90). The only drawbacks there are to this
relationship is that the mentor and the protГ©gГ© participation is non–voluntary. There have been no specifications on the end date so it is implied
that this mentor and mentee relationship is a permanent six month task. Also, no minimum level of contact had been mentioned between Frances and
Peter which could possibly lead both individuals to avoid each other completely for the entire mentoring term. Because of these reasons, both parties
may feel that this mentorship relationship is being forced and this may affect the mentoring experience and

Images and
shadows are representations of those things surrounding us that we see but do not understand because of our limited knowledge. As we obtain the ability
to see things more clearly in the cave that is our ignorance, we start to then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Upon first exiting the cave we are blinded by the brightest of light, though we cannot recognize its origin, we know that it charts our course. Slowly
we begin to notice at first little variations of light, mostly little color changes, as if we could not have possibly have taken it in all at once. This is
the first realization of education; past truths are either put into perspective or proven false. Either way our mind is finally opening up to the ideas and
images that have evaded us for so long. The ability to reason is building within us and we start to question all things past we knew to be true. The eyes
start to see even more now and the pain has subsided. We are ravenous and cannot seem to get enough of our surroundings. The strangestthing starts to
happen, it seems that the more knowledge we acquire the more questions that present themselves. The same could be said for education in two
different ways.
Upon exiting the cave and acquiring an education and knowledge we are then posed the dilemma. Do we

that immense knowledge in the wrong hands could be handled in numerous horrendous ways which can lead forth negative impacts. As demonstrated

The Importance Of Lifelong Learning

  • 1. The Importance Of Lifelong Learning In a developing world, in which society and technology are evolving at an exponential rate, lifelong learning has become in the way to promote personal development and enhance social incorporation. Knowledge is not acquired only in classrooms or in any educative institution, but in reality, knowledge is obtained by engaging and interacting with a society that grows along the world. Therefore, it is important to understand of the need for, and the ability to engage in lifelong learning. This process happens on a daily basis and is the responsibility of each person to engage in a continuous learning process. For many people who engage in higher education, it is believed that the learning process stops when a title, degree, or diploma is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many European countries want 15% of all adults that are in ages between 25 and 64 to participate in at least one learning activity (Ellen p.3). For developing countries, lifelong learning activities promote literacy skills and better opportunities in employment promoting economic growth among the population. After the first decade of the 21st century, Lifelong learning has become in the primary tool to face common global challenges such as poverty, economic breakdowns, and climate change (10.1007, p.xlix). The importance of embracing lifelong education allows people to understand this issues with better self knowledge and how to respond to them with confidence. An example of lifelong learning implementation is Hungary. In the 1990s, the Hungarian government proposed a national modernization plan, in which substantial resources were used to improve regional equality in rural areas, promote self–sustaining development in communities, and facilitate labor market flexibility. This was accomplished by adopting lifelong learning as a way of re–training communities in rural areas (9199 p.52) . Access to this education was found in vocational education systems and in enterprises willing to invest in work based training providing better skills to their employees; some of these companies contributed about 1.5% of their total payroll (9199 p.58). • 2. Music Literacy And Its Influence On Music Although technique and natural talent are big factors in music performing, it is suggested that a major skill needed for a developing music performer is the ability to sight–read (Paul), which is an important factor in acquiring and expanding music literacy (Gromko). However, music literacy is a compositional ability that requires many different abilities (Gromko, Lehmann and Ericson). In relation to studies on English literacy acquisition techniques, little research has been conducted on music literacy. In what research has been done, it is shown that music literacy and sight–reading ability acquisition has not an exact pedagogical technique or theory (Hodges). Given this, a review that examines the research of variables and predictors of sight–reading abilities and music literacy knowledge acquisition has yet to be done. The purpose of this review is to synthesize published articles on the research of music literacy to help give a better perspective on the variables that affect the acquisition of music reading skills. Experiments, a national survey, and general observations were used in this review. First, the techniques and observations that are used to teach music literacy to musicians will be evaluated. Next, eye pattern movements that have been observed while reading music will be reviewed. Lastly, variables that affect the acquisition of music literacy and the success ofsight reading will be introduced. Teaching and Acquiring Music Literacy Over the years, many ... • 3. Proposal On Adult Literacy Final Proposal Introduction: Little is known for acquiring literacy. Admittedly, many articles discuss about adult literacy levels and their participation in a general view (Kutner, Greenberg, & Baer, 2005; U.S. Department of Education Co–operation and Development), but this article intends to focus on a case study of low literacy adult learners in ESL (English as a second language) reading context. The main point of this research was to observe how the reading acquisition happened in LLA (Low Literacy Adult). Are there any useful learning strategies for LLA reading? In broad prospect, the research eagers to enlighten those who teach and instruct ESL adult learners. Literature: 1.Discussion about Literacy Literacy is a fundamental social skill in our life. Many past studies of adult literacy have tried to count the "low literacy" in the U.S, evaluating literacy as a simple checklist that individuals either do or do not have, however, the definition of the literacy are still argued in the teaching field that many researchers think it's too simple to narrow down the literacy into rigid categories. ... • 4. Why Death Should Be Important For All Philosophers And How... In Plato's Phaedo, Socrates is preparing for his death following his trial in Plato's Apology. He engages in an discussion with Simmias and Cebes about why death should be important to all philosophers and how one goes about acquiring knowledge. Socrates explains that the pursuit of knowledge, or wisdom, should be the life goal of a philosopher. This explanation hinges on the fact that death makes possible the acquisition of knowledge. However, the issue that I will focus on in this paper is the way Socrates the acquisition of knowledge. He believes that the body is impure, and the soul only acquires knowledge after death in an "In–Between" state when by itself. Simmias and Cebes don't raise an issue with this explanation; however, I do. Socrates does not definitively prove that the soul is acquiring knowledge during this "In–Between" state, nor does he consider the alternative theory that the soul can acquire knowledge in the body, but consolidates and identifies the truth of this knowledge after death. In this paper, I will investigate this alternative theory and show how it is possible according to Socrates' standards. As Socrates is preparing for his execution, he defines what death is to Simmias and Cebes and explains the significance of death. As one will see, this is the beginning of the standards he sets for how the soul acquires knowledge. He describes how it is "better at certain times and for certain people to die than to live . . . those from whom it is better ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cave Of The Cave Socrates Cave Analysis In the history of the cave in Book VII of the Republic of Plato, Socrates attempts to convince his disciple Glaucon of the state in which most of the human beings are regarding the knowledge of truth and ignorance, illustrating his disciple in Questions concerning wisdom. (514a) Socrates attempts with the metaphor of the cave to explain how the prisoners represent the majority of human beings, who are enslaved by their ignorance and are unaware of it. Therefore they remain to cling to their customs and false beliefs as always. These prisoners, like most men, believe that they know and feel happy in their ignorance. • 6. The Human Experience : An Abstract Concept Essay Many things in life are exceptionally difficult to place into strict formulated categories and the way one acquires new knowledge is no exception. Leaders in education are still trying to place students into learning categories that they can understand and control. These attempts have not been successful because not only do we all learn in different ways, but the way in which we attain knowledge is diversified by our ever–changing present circumstances. Human beings and their experiences are complex and diverse and should be imagined as such. Acquiring knowledge is an abstract concept that is happening constantly and rapidly. The human experience is full of constant acquisition of knowledge that comes to us through our own self–inquiry and the influence of others. Humans are conditioned to live in community and, therefore, base their understanding of themselves off their interactions with others. Since the beginning of time people have lived and thrived in communities, and to this day communal living is still universally present. Whether I am in my church community, theatre community, or my community of learners, I am learning from the people around me. Interactions span from conversations with different people about their outlook on life, to quietly observing our differences and similarities. With any of this interaction you are learning from others who you are in relation to them. David G. Myers discusses in "Ingroup and Outgroup" how people base their understanding of ... • 7. Analyzing The Statement, Learning And Cognition Are... Sittig Final Fall 2016 1. I believe the statement, learning and cognition are fundamentally situated means that acquiring knowledge and achieving meaningful learning is accomplished by applying new concepts in authentic situations. Authentic situations are every day, real–world situations that are of interest to students. It is learning that is relevant and immerses students in solving problems by participating in activities that will help them transfer knowledge gained to new situations. This type of learning helps students to be self–motivated, take control of their own learning, and begin to pose further questions. This directly pertains to inquiry learning. As a librarian, we can situate cognitive learning by creating opportunities for students. By taking a broad concept and helping students explore and connect its effect on their personal lives creates authentic situations. Librarians should collaborate with teachers and create these learning opportunities. We can provide resources and materials that help students explore their talents, interests, and abilities. We can also help students expand their learning in the classroom by helping them further explore topics according to their learning styles and interest. It is our responsibility to provide students with resources and materials that reach beyond the school walls that encourage learning and doing. This was mentioned by Ken Robinson in two of his Ted Talks. He spoke of how schools are killing creativity and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Open Innovation Is Becoming Increasingly Important For... In a world of intense global competition, demand for specialised skills to match increasing product complexity as well as the speed of technological advances and innovations; open innovation is becoming increasingly important for firms' competitive advantage (Ranft & Lord, 2002 and Lawson & Samson, 2001 and Howells et al., 2003). These external pressures are becoming too demanding for a firm's internal capabilities and there has been a shift from internal research and development, to acquiring external capabilities in a bid for open innovation. (Howells et al., 2008). These acquisitions can be sourced through joint ventures, collaborations or licensing (Howells et al., 2008). The acquisition of technological capabilities from external sources, as well as how these capabilities are then used effectively in the firm are two trends which are becoming increasingly important for the management of knowledge technology in the firm. Powell (1998, p229), focuses on a firm's capability for learning both "how and when organizations are able to combine their existing competencies with the abilities of others." Knowledge management is the concept of identifying, and assess the capabilities of a company, to decide what needs to be sourced externally, which in turn creates this competitive advantage for the firm (Gupta et al., 2000). In this essay, I am going to critically analyse the acquisition of technological external sources, and the benefits and issues this may bring the firm, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Constructivist Approaches to Acquiring Knowledge The process of learning and acquiring knowledge is a very interesting and complex task. The constructivist approach of learning was first expressed by Dewey (1936) in the early 20th century. Dewey has identified a progressive model based on philosophy Rousseau's writing and on psychological knowledge. Piaget, J. (1973) study in early adolescent's psychological development of discover, or reconstruct by rediscovery, Bruner's (1973) theory of indicating learning as a social process which comprised of various interactions to knowledge gain and many researchers (Montessori (1946); Kolb & Fry (1975); etc) have seen embarked on Dewey's initial constructivism and discover it as one of the best teaching to be used in education. Physical educators ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author had proven that a constructivist classroom produces more learning than the traditional classroom. An excellent study of applying constructivist theory by Banet and Ayuso (2003) have shown that a more in–depth study of the students' interest and an ongoing analysis of the classroom setting is useful to increase the students 'understanding and results. They explored classroom atmosphere and implemented teaching approaches that allow students' feedback and deepen their knowledge. This study also mentioned that the traditional constructs of the students' knowledge, cognitive abilities, and the stages of cognitive development were unable to solve the problems. As compared to traditional learning, students will acquire a more comprehensive knowledge of the subject. However, many educators have misunderstood the concept of constructivist teaching (Baviskar et al, 2009). In Huffman et al (2003) studies, technology was engaged as a useful constructivist tool to assist teachers to create a constructivist learning environment. However, confounding factors found in the study for example, the step by step instructions interaction between the teacher, students and the technology did not create any new learning or knowledge for the students. Baviskar et al (2009) highlighted that by using group works in the classroom as a constructivist educational tool, may not necessarily be constructivist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mary Shelly's Frankenstein Although Mary Shelly did not have a formal education growing up motherless in the early nineteenth century, she wrote one of the greatest novels nonetheless in 1819, Frankenstein. The novel has been the basis for many motion picture movies along with many English class discussions. Within the novel Shelly shares the stories of two men from very different worlds. After telling Victor Frankenstein this, Victor looks shocked and replies to Walton, "You seek for knowledge and wisdom, as I once did, and I ardently hope for the gratification of your wishes may not be a serpent and sting you, as mine has been." (Shelly 28). This quote represents the guilt and regret found within Victor's life that lead from the want and desire of knowledge. Victor Frankenstein was a young boy, born in Naples, who wanted to explore and figure out what was just beyond his reach through science. "My temper was sometimes violent, and my passions vehement, but by some law in my temperature they were turned, not towards childish pursuits, but to an eager desire to learn... It was the secrets of heaven and earth that I desired to learn," (Shelly 37). At the age of thirteen Victor read a work of Cornelius Agrippa's, a German physician who was persecuted during his life for his mystical philosophies, while vacationing off the French shore of Lake Geneva. After reading Agrippa, Victor's feelings toward natural philosophy soon changed into enthusiasm, and he continued to read other author's including Paracelsus and Albertus Magnus. The next law, leads us to the Law of the Lesson. This refers to the core of teaching. The advancement of knowledge means introducing new information and helping students to grasp it. A good teacher will find familiar information and examples to bring up when introducing a new truth. A student needs to know of a "known" to understand the "unknown." The new information should be explained until the student is able to understand the new truth. A student has the ability to learn without a teacher. However, the Law of the Teaching Process creates the background for a teacher to guide a student on the path to more knowledge. A teacher should establish a safe environment that encourages thinking to help students learn "the unknown by the way of the known" (84). Acquiring their knowledge and increasing their mental power correlates to the aims of a teacher as they guide students. While a teacher is to be passionate in laying out knowledge, the really work of an education, acquiring knowledge, is the work of the student. A student learns by discovery and information stores as the student interprets the new information. The Law of Review refers to more than simply repetition. Learning a second language can be functional to oneself especially when communicating with a person whom you do not have a common language with. In acquiring the second language, there will be difficulties that one might face as compared to acquiring the first language, which makes it harder to acquire. Our mother tongue is easier to learn as we would have been brought up by our parents or grandparents that speak the language. In cognitive style, there are two different types that plays a part – Field independence and Field dependence. Field independence is whereby the learner analyzes the information and branching out the most relevant to the irrelevant information that helps his or her study of the language. Field dependence on the other hand is the opposite whereby the learner takes into account all the information without highlighting the key points. It is important for earners to adopt cognitive styles to ensure that they have understood the language thoroughly so as to not make any mistakes while communicating. The best style to adopt would be the Field Independence. By noting down the specific points, a learner can better understand the use of the language appropriately. • 14. Ancient And Medieval Civilizations Baron Bray–Sackey SAGE 230: Ancient and Medieval Civilizations Dr Reynolds 10/12/2015 Throughout the SAGE 230 course many question have been raised on the human condition such as; What it means to live just and good? How do we best order relationships for the common good? What do we know and how do we know it? these themes have been recurrent in the stories of Gilgamesh, the Bible, Plato's Cave and the Oedipus Trilogy. Further analysis has shown that to live a just and good life is to first gainknowledge and understand what it means to be good and just. Putting yourself first enables you to help others and lastly we are only able to really know what we experience and study. Furthermore these are great takeaways that can be personalized to improve our daily condition. To live a just and good life in this sense is to have a system of moral values that you follow and accept but is socially approved and accepted by others. However the just and good life is a complex that plagues human nature because on one hand we strive to live in a way that is morally right and socially approved on the other hand we have to balance self sacrifice and determine what we value to be good because what is good to one person may not be good to another. In this vein of thinking Plato would say a just life refers to a person who possesses a good character and a sense of responsibility almost to the point of subservience moreover has reached the peak of knowledge and understanding because it is ... Analyse The Importance Of Acquiring Literacy Skills 'Schools are made to be relevant to students because they need skills and tools to use in the real world,' my English teacher use to remind us back in high school. I have always been determined to achieve the highest level of literacy and skill while learning. Learning the purpose of literacy and the required skill is one of the most crucial elements of school and as soon as any student would understand that, then learning would be much more interesting, comfortable and passion filled. Many students all read the same way, to get a gist of the material and not to understand. Understanding that study materials can be different, it would be necessary to apply different skills to each reading material depending on the purpose of reading. The Relationship of "Allegory of the Cave" to Learning and Education The "Allegory of the Cave" is Plato's attempt to explain the relationship between knowledge and ignorance. Men and women are restricted by the limits of the education of their parents and the small amounts that can be culled from their environment. This is the first realization of education; past truths are either put into perspective or proven false. • 29. Sociocultural Theory Of Second Language Acquisition The sociocultural theory of second language acquisition has provided me with the strongest reasons for reconsidering my previous views on second language learning. Vygotsky proposed a sociocultural theory that is very influential within the field of second language learning. The focus was on the idea that all learning is primarily social. The connections between people and the sociocultural context in which they interact with one another are crucial. Through interaction in shared experiences new knowledge is obtained. This perspective emphasizes the social nature of learning and examines the complex and dynamic social interaction involved in the process of learning a second language. According to Vygotsky the cognitive and social processes in acquiring a second language are inseparable. Social interaction has a vital role in the process of cognitive development. Individuals start out in society and culture and only become individualized when they separate themselves from what is taking place. Learning takes place in sociocultural contexts and behavior is learned by reacting to other people. Information is gained first socially and then becomes internalized. Vygotsky thought that learning took place on two different levels. • 31. Summary Of Novum Organum By Bacon In Book I, sections xix–xxx of Novum Organum by Bacon, Bacon is talking about acquiring knowledge. He starts by stating that there are two possible ways of acquiring knowledge. The first way is by collecting information and data through the senses and from there jumping to conclusions. The second way is by collecting information, but instead of jumping to conclusions one gradually ascends to these conclusions. By this, he means that there must be time and thought put into it in order to come to the conclusions. Bacon claims that the way that is used now is the first way, however, the best way is the second (Bacon 42). Next, Bacon explains that people tend to acquire knowledge using the first way because people are lazy. The second way requires work and labor and people don't like work so they take the simplest route possible. Acquiring knowledge the second way cause fatigue and people like to go through life in the simplest and easiest way so they use the first way (Bacon 42). When a patient man with a reflecting nature makes an attempt at the second way (understanding) there is little effect. This is because understanding is unequal to the task of overcoming the obscurity of things. In other words, understanding is not equivalent to comprehending the obscure or abnormal qualities of nature (Bacon 42). Both of the two ways begins with observation and collecting data. Likewise, both end with general truths or self–evident truths about nature. However, just because they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. The Relationship of Allegory of the Cave to Learning and... The Relationship of "Allegory of the Cave" to Learning and Education The "Allegory of the Cave" is Plato's attempt to explain the relationship between knowledge and ignorance. Upon exiting the cave and acquiring an education and knowledge we are then posed the dilemma. Do we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
