Contributions Of Galileo Galilei
Galileo Galilei (16th century C.E) was an Italian born natural philosopher, mathematician, and
astronomer. Initially intending to study medicine at the University of Pisa, he ended up dropping out
without a degree. He began learning Aristotelian philosophy and mathematics on his own.
Eventually, he was invited to a lecture series in Florence, which greatly helped him advance his
career until he obtained a position as the chair of mathematics at the University of Pisa1. His
endearment of his career was probably a significant driving force for his initial interest in
astronomy, which helped him achieve and maintain the position of court philosopher1. His take on
the Lippershey telescope allowed him to view the sky like never before . Among his observations
were the moons of Jupiter, the phases of Venus, and sun spots. This was a noteworthy opposition to
the perfect heavens that were described by Aristotle. Throughout his life and career, Galileo was
credited with such revolutionary discoveries that sparked the Galilean Revolution. It is in my
opinion that his revolutionary work is due to him distancing himself from his predecessors via
experiments, observations, thought experiments, and heavy criticism of past works.
Galileo's methodology in the acquisition of knowledge is evident in his contributions to physics.
One of Galileo's first contributions can be seen in Two New Sciences, where Galileo discussed the
effects that scaling has on material strength. He claimed

Short Essay On Galileo Galilei
Galileo Galilei, sometimes misspelled as Galileo Galiley, was an Italian mathematician, physicist,
philosopher, engineer, and astronomer. He is referred to as the "Father of Science" and the "Father
of Modern Physics" for his extensive contributions to the 17th century scientific revolution. He
advocated for the heliocentric and Copernican views of the universe which led to his investigation,
arrest, and trial by the 1615 Roman Inquisition.

Galileo Galilei Accomplishments
"That moment when the Church excommunicates you for being right." In 1564 on February 15th in
Pisa, Italy, Galileo Galilei was born. Throughout his life he had numerous accomplishments
including being the first person to study the sky with a telescope, which led to numerous other
astronomically astronomical discoveries. If he would not have existed we may never have
uncovered many of the truths about space and astronomy. Galileo Galilei was a man of thought and
curiosity, these characteristics led him to be one the most well known and influential scientists in the
world today.

He continued to do research in understanding the motion of falling objects. He was also very
interested in the physics behind the pendulum. Once Hans Lippershey invented the telescope he
began studying and eventually improving upon the design. Though he is often falsely credited with
creating the telescope, he was the first person to use the telescope.
The use of the telescope led him to discover new characteristics of space and the solar system. He
discovered Jupiter's four largest moons and the rings of Saturn. He also discovered that the Milky
Way galaxy is comprised of stars. The observation of mountains on the moon was made by Galileo
as well. He also made numerous discoveries within these discoveries.
One of his biggest and most significant discoveries was the confirmation that the sun was the center
of the universe. This idea of a sun–centered universe is called a heliocentric universe. This idea was
first proposed by Nicolaus Copernicus. The Catholic Church believed that the Earth was the center
of the universe. This is called a geocentric universe. When Galileo announced his discovery it was
immediately denied by the

Charting the Stars: Galileo Galilei
Galileo Galilei was a great Italian astronomer, mathematician and philosopher, whose explorations
and discoveries opened new doorways of ideas in the science field. In 1609, Galileo constructed his
own telescope, which he used to explore the wonders of the heavens. He followed Copernicus'
heliocentric philosophy and was able to prove it by observing the night sky. In 1610, Galileo
discovered four moons orbiting around Jupiter. He published his findings in his book "The Starry
Messenger". The observation of four moons orbiting around Jupiter went against the geocentric
ideal, which everything revolves around the Earth. In the same year, Galileo observed and recorded
the phases of Venus. He found that the phases showed that Venus did not revolve around the Earth,
but rather around the Sun. He said that Venus shows phases like the moon; therefore, it must revolve
around the Sun and not around the Earth. If the Sun and Venus revolved around the Earth, the
phases of Venus would be vastly different because the Sun's position is beyond Venus' position. In
1632, Galileo published his findings proving the heliocentric idea, ... Show more content on

It was previously believed, that when two objects of different masses were dropped from the same
height, that the heavier of the two would reach the ground first due to its larger mass. In 1650,
Galileo climbed to the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and dropped two cannonballs, of different
masses, from the same height. Both balls, even though they had different masses, landed at the same
time. He concluded that the forced pulling down on the objects must be the same and the only factor
that may affect the timing is air resistance. Galileo also discovered that an object accelerates
uniformly due to gravity, through his ramp experiment. He released a ball at the top of a ramp and
found that the displacement of the ball was equal to time

Galileo Galilei
Galileo Galilei was born on February 15, 1564, and died on January 8, 1642, from the cause of heart
palpitations. He was an Italian polymath who was a central figure in the transition from natural
philosophy to modern science. Most of his life was based on arguing that heliocentrism is right and
geocentrism is wrong. Galileo agreed with Nicolaus that the Sun was in the center of the universe
which he confirmed using the crude refracting telescope and the 20x lens. The Church disagreed
with him, they didn't want their thousands of years of teaching to go down the drain in seconds and
therefore he was charged with heresy twice. He also discovered that there are rings around Saturn
and found out about four different moons orbiting Jupiter: Callisto, Ganymede, Io, and Europa.
Galileo was born and raised in Pisa, Italy with a healthy family of two parents, and five siblings.

Newton used Galileo's work to help formulate his laws of motion and how gravity works and affects
objects. Although Galileo refined it to the point where he can see further than any other telescope at
the time. It was also the starting point of the powerful kinds of the telescope we have today. Galileo
is not the first scientist to postulate that the earth revolved around the sun, he definitely is the one
credited to prove the Copernican theory because he was the one publicly spoke about it. At the time
no one believed him except for another scientist who has seen that the earth revolves around the sun.
Everyone at the time believed in geocentrism which the church had been teaching for thousands of
years. Galileo proved them wrong, using his telescope, he demonstrated to people that other planets

The Book Of The Courtier By Galileo Galilei
Galileo Galilei was an Italian philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician who lived during the
1500's and 1600's. Galileo was born on February 15th, 1564, in Pisa, Italy, and was the oldest son of
the revered musician, Vincenzo Galilei, a major contributor to music theory and the practice of
music. Throughout his life, Galileo made contributions to the sciences of motion, astronomy, and
the classification of materials based on strength. He also accepted the Copernican heliocentric
system as well as converted natural philosophy from a more verbal account to a more mathematical
one based on experimentation and critical thinking. Galileo meets some of the criteria mentioned in

His reasoning was based on the fact that the ancient Greeks highly prized music in their everyday
lives, and those who couldn't were regarded as less than men who could. Galileo was not a
musician, which was rather ironic as his father was one of the most well known musicians of the
time period. During his early life, instead of focusing on music and the arts, the young Galileo
attended the University of Pisa to study medicine, but dropped out after finding that his real passion
was mathematics. The mathematician ended up making arithmetic and philosophy his career, which
his father protested. Although Galileo did not study music as a child, he still found ways to express
himself, discovering new and different ideas in astronomy, mathematics, and philosophy. Because
Galileo does not fulfill this part of Castiglione's ideal courtier, Galileo should not be regarded as a
Renaissance person, even though he contributed much to the scientific

Galileo Galilei Influence On Religion
The sixteenth and seventeenth centuries were a time a serious theological and scientific debate.
Many people still held firmly to the idea that the Bible was the word of God and therefore the
complete truth. But with so much evidence to the contrary, some people were turning away from the
mixed messages of the Bible and moving towards the possibility that science, or natural philosophy,
could answer questions that were otherwise unexplained. Galileo Galilei, like other scientists and
explorers of his time, boldly faced religious condemnation in order to pursue his endeavors.
Galileo's plea to the Grand Duchess Christina of Tuscany provides valuable insight into the struggle
for scientists to overcome antiquated religious ideology and the power it has on human perception.

He argues that firm belief does not trump visible evidence if the evidence contests it. In those
circumstances it is important to be open to new ideas and not let unconfirmed ideology influence
your results. Any bias to personal opinion or belief devalues the process. His theological opponents
were guilty of this, using Biblical passages against him in writings, even if the arguments presented
with them were not sound. Without sound arguments to rely on, fear of damnation was used to try
and turn people away from Galileo's beliefs. They warned people of condemnation from the Pope,
exploiting the belief that the Pope is infallible. Galileo recognized what a serious threat disapproval
from the Pope could have against the scientific community in a time period where its pursuits were

Galileo Galilei Contributions
"Galileo, perhaps more than any single person, was responsible for the birth of modern
science...Galileo was one of the first to argue that man could hope to understand how the world
works, and moreover, that he could do this by observing the real world" . So, quoted Stephen
Hawking. Galileo Galilei was a man who did not take others work for granted, testing and
experimenting until theories, formulas, and inventions were proven or corrected. This way of
thinking enabled him to prove some of Aristotles and Archimedes doctrines wrong. He improved
many inventions of others, while still creating some exciting new ones of his own in the process.
World changing inventions such as the telescope, which ultimately assisted in space exploration can
be attributed to this man. Galileo Galilei left a lasting impression, inspiring the birth of modern
science.
Galileo Galilei was born on the 15th of February 1564 in Pisa Italy, the home town of the famous
Leaning Tower of Pisa. Galileo's parents were Vincenzo and Giulia. He was born just three days
before the famous painter and sculptor Michelangelo Buonarroti died. He was the oldest of 4
children; with siblings Virginia (b. 1573), Michelangelo (b. 1575) and Livia (b. 1578). In the early
1570's Galileo's family moved from Pisa to Florence–the capital of Tuscany. He started to
experiment in science at an early age and showed an intellect similar to Leonardo da Vinci (1452–
1519). Galileo created gadgets and instruments as a child, for his own

Galileo: Founder of Experimental Science In the Renaissance era, Galileo Galilei was a philosopher,
mathematician, physicist, astronomer, and inventor. The eldest of six children, he was born in Pisa

however, he found himself drawn to and interested in philosophy and mathematics. Eventually he
left the university without a degree, nevertheless, he still became a professor of mathematics. Many
of Galileo's inventions, discoveries, and ideas were revolutionary and impactful and have helped to
shape scientific thought. Many of Galileo's lesser–known ideas and inventions are incredibly
obscure yet fundamental. According to Galileo and Experimental Science, "Galileo invented... the

Galileo notwithstanding its many inadequacies, nevertheless, without it's invention, we probably
wouldn't have the thermometer today, making it incredibly arduous to measure temperature.
Unfortunately, the first thermometer was unable to measure extremely cold temperatures because it
initially contained water that would freeze instantaneously. A pioneer of the scientific method,
Galileo was one of the few scientists of the time who actually used experiments to prove their own
hypotheses. In Rebecca Marcus' opinion: "We accept this scientific method... as the only proper
one... Because of [Galileo's] efforts, he has earned the title of 'founder of experimental science'" In
the previous centuries, scientists typically made hypotheses with no experimentation to test whether
or not they were correct.

Galileo Galilei was born on February 15, 1556 in Pisa Italy, Tuscany in 1564, the son of Florentine
musician Vincenzio Galilei. Actually, Vincenzio was a revolutionary musician–he felt the formal
church music that then dominated the scene had become sterile, and that classic Greek poetry and
myths had a power the church music lacked, that perhaps could be translated into modern music. He
attempted some of this, and his work began the development that culminated in Italian opera. His

While teaching there, he frequently visited a place called the Arsenal, where Venetian ships were

visits to the Arsenal, he became fascinated by nautical technologies, such as the sector and
shipbuilding. In 1593, he was presented with the problem involving the placement of oars in galleys.
He treated the oar as a lever and correctly made the water the fulcrum. A year later, he patented a
model for a pump. His pump was a device that raised water by using only one horse. Soon after he
decided to to go back the University of Pisa and become a professor there and thought as a lecturer,
he also published a paper on the center of gravity. He even had three kids with a woman named

Galileo revealed himself as a huge advocate of Copernicus's heliocentric system in The Starry
Messenger. The Roman Inquisition of the Catholic Church disapproved of Copernicanism and made
Galileo discard the Copernican thesis. Later he was told that he was allowed to continue to discuss
Copernicanism as long as he knew that he was not a statistic, but it was a mathematical theory. It
has been discussed that the church didn't like the Copernican system because it endangered the
whole beginning of the universe. "The heavens were no longer a spiritual world but a world of
matter. Humans were no longer at the center, and God was no longer in a specific place." The
system created such doubts that it seemed right for them just to criticize it.
Through his crafty telescope, he could see more clearly the moon and what it is all about. He found
out that the moon had a landscape features similar to the earth, with mountains and valleys. This
discovery of his went against the Aristotelian way that all things past earth are all make of a "perfect
celestial substance" but he realized that it looked like it was made of the same stuff that earth was.
Jupiter is orbited by four moons, or as Galileo called them planets, that were previously unknown.
This observation shows that the earth was not the center of motion. This was given credibility by the
Copernican assertion that

Holland inventor was able to come and sell his spyglass throughout Venice. Using the properties of

and it spread quickly to many countries and made the people question the Church. As other

The Life of Galileo Galilei
Galileo Galilei is considered one of the greatest scientists of all time. He was an Italian
mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher who very strongly supported Copernicanism, which is
the idea that the earth orbits the sun. It was hard to advocate Copernicanism because it was a very
controversial idea during that time. Galileo was a leader in the Scientific Revolution. He made
discoveries in the sciences of motion, astronomy, and strength of materials. In motion, his famous
scientific discoveries were circular inertia, law of falling bodies and parabolic path of projectiles. In
mathematics, he changed philosophy from a verbal explanation to a mathematical one in which
experimentation was a method for discovering facts of nature. In astronomy, he revolutionized
telescope and made way for the recognition of the Copernican heliocentric system. Galileo changed
the world forever. Galileo's childhood was full of schooling and studying. Galileo was born in Pisa,
Italy, on February 15, 1564. Galileo, the oldest child in the family, was born to Guilia Ammannati,
and Vincenzo Galilei, who was a great musician. When Galileo was eight, he moved to Florence. He

time science has been able to provide evidence that proved these theories. Galileo Galilei and Gan

Influenced by hypothetical theories, scientists attempted to find evidence which proved or disproved

important of these is Galileo Galilei. His discoveries led to new advancements in the field of science
on an astronomical level. He revolutionized the world with new findings that highly contradicted the
conventional beliefs put in place by the Catholic Church. He was so influential, he was nicknamed

Essay about Galileo Galilei
Galileo Galilei was born in Pisa, Italy on February 15, 1564 and was named after his ancestor
Galileo Bonaiuti who was a physician, professor, and politician. His parents were Giulia Ammannati
and Vincenzo Galilei, a famous lutenist, composer, and music theorist. He was the first born of six
children of which three of his five siblings survived infancy. He started his education at the young
age of 8 at the Camaldolese Monastery at Vallombrosa, which brought a close connection to the
Christian religion. Following in his father's footsteps, Galileo became an accomplished lutenist,
which later expanded the intellectual catechism of how the world works. Michelangelo, the

Galileo was not exposed to mathematics but was intrigued in the subject after attending a geometry
lecture. He then began to study mathematics and natural philosophy instead of medicine since right
before he earned his degree, the university cut him off due to unpaid funds. Returning to Florence,
he lectured at the Florentine academy, where he studied and applied his new interests, and in 1586
he published an essay describing his invention of the hydrostatic balance, when fluid is at rest,

fine arts and received an instructer position in the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in Florence in
1588 where he met Cigoli, a painter, who applied Galileo's astronomical observations in his
painting. This led Galileo to expand his mentality to be more aesthetic. In 1589, he was back to Pisa

Galileo Galilei, a distinguished polymath that contributed to the commence of modern sciences was
accounted to be a heretic. In the year, 1609, the astronomer proposed a new theory reckoned as
heliocentrism, the idea that claims that the Earth and other planets revolve around the Sun. His
theory contradicted the belief of the Catholic Church who under the influence of the Bible, believed
in the theory geocentrism, therefore accounting him as a heretic. Galileo Galilei is not a heretic
because his theories were based on clear empirical observations, that scientifically proved his ideas.

After Galileo Galilei's death, world–renowned scientists like Isaac Newton began to teach others his
scientific works and theories. The timeline states, "1661: Isaac Newton began teaching Galileo and
Copernicus's ideas in England. 1758: The Catholic Church ended the ban on books teaching the
heliocentric model" (Doc A: Line 12–13). It is evident that the Catholic Church realized their
inaccuracy of their theory of the function of the solar system. After several centuries, the church
accepted the truth in the theory of Galilei's heliocentrism theory. The Timeline further explains that
in, "1939: Pope Pius XII called Galileo a hero of research"(Doc A: Line 14). Galileo was no longer
known as heresy of the Catholic religion but rather a hero that drew the line between reality and
belief. Galileo was seen as a heretic at first, causing the church to ban the spreading of his theory,
but after several investigation they recognized that the Italian was truly correct. Galileo Galilei was

Contributions Of Galileo Galilei
Galileo Galilei was an Italian astronomer who contributed to major studies in the field of
Astronomy. In 1610 Galileo he is credited for discovery of the four major moons of Jupiter known
as the Galilean moons. Galileo is credited for his advanced studies in the field of astronomy and to
date has laid the foundation for major accomplishments. Galileo was also the first astronomers to
use a self–constructed telescope to study our solar system and determined the Sun was in fact the
very center of our solar system. This discovery paved new way to creating accurate time tables and
assisted in creating accurate longitude and latitude coordinates for cartography. During the
renaissance period Galileo was a well–respected man He was known for being a mathematician,
physicist, astronomer, inventor, and a philosopher. He began to integrate independent sciences of
math and physics, and unified them. At the time everyone seemed to believe Aristotle's theory that
the Earth is the center of the universe. Galileo was not a true believer of such a theory and argued to
the people that the Earth was not the center of our universe. This concept frightened many including
religious leaders. The use of a telescope to study the skies was of great influence on his position of
Copernicus's Theory. He was the first to examine space through a homemade telescope and with this
he confirmed Copernicus's theory that the Earth revolves around the Sun. Galileo was a strong

the telescope towards the heavens. He published a small booklet, The Starry Messenger, in which he
told about his discoveries. He told that the moon was not flat and smooth but that it is round like the

Jupiter had a moon that did not revolve around the earth. In 1612, Galileo published Discourse on

why objects float on water. He said that objects didn't float because of their flat shape, but the

prove Aristole's theories wrong. All of the teachings were based of the theories of Aristole, and since
the church was the head of all power no one questioned the church and the beliefs. One of the first
theories that Galileo proved wrong was that all objects fall at different rates depending of the weight
of the object. Galileo researched this and proved the theory wrong by dropping of two weights of
different masses off the leaning tower of Pisa. Both of the objects fell at the same time and that
proved that Aristole was wrong. In later years a man named Han Lippershey created the very first
telescope. The telescope displayed objects that were really far away as if they were at arm's reach.
The flaw to Han's telescope was that it

Galileo Galilei was an astronomer, physicist, engineer and mathematician during the renaissance

influential in supporting the Copernican Theory, which suggested that the earth revolved around the
sun, and that the earth was not in fact the centre of the universe. He also developed the telescope,
and discovered moons orbiting Jupiter, which are now name after him in his honour, the Galilean

His work with the Copernican Theory earned him the four moons around jupiter to be named after
him in his honour. Other scientific endorsements named after Galileo include the first spacecraft to
orbit around Jupiter, and the Gal, a unit of acceleration. Galileo developed the telescope, allowing
him to see into the sky, denying the church of their incorrect beliefs. He re evolved the way science
was seen in the world, proving that the teachings of the Greek philosopher Aristotle were wrong,
through using experiments that everybody could see. He created the modern rules for motion,
primarily those of falling objects. He also showed how objects floated, further disputing Aristotle's
theories. What Aristotle thought just made sense, so people believed him, but Galileo disrupted the
whole system by creating and evolving theories, but then also testing them, forming the modern
basis for experiments. The church reputed it's charges on Galileo long after he was dead, and Pope
John Paul II stated that he regrets how the Galileo affair was handled. The church only removed
accusations against him and removed bans against his work long after his death, 200 years later. He

Galileo: Exploring the Universe, Encountering Resistance Galileo Galilei was an Italian
Renaissance man, who used a telescope of his own invention to collect some evidence that
supported a Sun–centered model of the Solar System. Galileo Galilei was born in Pisa, Italy, on
February 15, 1564, the first of seven children of Vincenzo Galilei and Giulia Ammanati. In 1609,
Galileo created a telescope, based of a type of telescope built by Dutch eyeglass makers, and

Catholic Church, wrong. After a hundred years of deciding which theory was right, the Vatican

This proved to be a key turning point in the scientific revolution. In 1623, a friend of Galileo's,

allowed to publish books as well, with the only condition that they provided an objective view and
do not advocate Copernican theory. In 1632, Galileo published the Dialogue Concerning the Two
Chief World Systems, a discussion among three people: one who supports Copernicus' heliocentric
theory of the universe, one who argues against it, and one who is impartial. Though Galileo claimed
Dialogues was neutral, it was clearly not. It spiked a negative reaction from the Church, and Galileo

During his time teaching at Pisa University he experimented with suspended objects by swinging

laws of gravity "by dropping bodies of different weights from the top of the famous Leaning Tower,
that the speed of fall of a heavy object is not proportional to its weight, as Aristotle had claimed"
("Galileo"). Galileo proved that Aristotle's theory about gravity was incorrect and that no matter

Galileo Galilei (1564–1642) Galileo Galilei played a major role in the Renaissance. He was an
Italian scientist, physicist, mathematician, philosopher, inventor, and astronomer. His ideas and
observations are to thank for modern physics and astronomy, today. Born on February 15, 1564, in
Pisa, Italy, Galileo helped open the eyes of many to a new way of thinking about our solar system.
This earned him the nickname of "The Father of Modern Science." Galileo's findings were
considered controversial because they challenged what others were told to believe. When he
published his book in 1604, The Operations of the Geometrical and Military Compass, it showed
many of his skills. He also made a balance that specifically measured small objects. These earned
him more recognition in the scientific world, and soon after, Galileo developed the universal law of

bodies orbited Earth. They were told that the grand scheme of God revolves around humankind
therefore Earth was the center and everything else, even the sun, revolves around it. The catholic
church was upset and told Galileo not to share, teach, or defend his position about the

Galileo Galilei Research Paper
Galileo Galilei Galileo Galilei was born on February 15, 1564 in Pisa in the Duchy of Florence,
Italy. Galileo's father, Vincenzo Galilei, was a musician and music theorist. His mother's name was
Giulia Ammannati. Galileo was the first born of six children. When Galileo's family moved to
Florence in 1583 he started his formal education at Camaldolese monastery in Vallombrosa. In 1583
Galileo began to study medicine at the University of Pisa. He had much intelligence and talent. He
soon discovered mathematics and physics. While studying at Pisa Galileo discovered the
Aristotelian view of the world. In 1585 Galileo left Pisa because of financial difficulties. He did not
receive his degree. Galileo supported himself with small teaching ... Show more content on

Galileo made a telescope. He then showed it to some Venetian merchants. They thought it would be
important for spotting ships. The merchants gave Galileo money to manufacture several of them. In
March 1610 Galileo published The Starry Messenger. This book had the discoveries that the moon
was not flat and smooth, but a sphere with mountains and craters. He found Venus had phases like
the moon, it rotated around the sun. Galileo also discovered Jupiter had revolving moons, which
didn't revolve around the earth. Galileo found evidence that backed up Copernicus's theory, which
went against Aristotle's theory and the Church doctrine. In 1612 Galileo published Discourse on
Bodies in Water. This went against Aristotle's explanation of why objects float in water. Galileo said
that it wasn't because of their flat shape, but it was the weight of the object in relation to the water it
displaced. In 1613 Galileo published his observations of sunspots, which again went against the
Aristotelian doctrine that the sun was perfect. Galileo wrote a letter to a student to explain how
Copernican theory did not go against the Bible. Galileo said that Bible was written from an earthly
perspective and implied that science provided a different, more accurate perspective. The letter
shown to the public and Church Inquisition consultants pronounced Copernican theory unorthodox.
In 1616, Galileo was ordered

Contributions Of Galileo Galilei

  • 1. Contributions Of Galileo Galilei Galileo Galilei (16th century C.E) was an Italian born natural philosopher, mathematician, and astronomer. Initially intending to study medicine at the University of Pisa, he ended up dropping out without a degree. He began learning Aristotelian philosophy and mathematics on his own. Eventually, he was invited to a lecture series in Florence, which greatly helped him advance his career until he obtained a position as the chair of mathematics at the University of Pisa1. His endearment of his career was probably a significant driving force for his initial interest in astronomy, which helped him achieve and maintain the position of court philosopher1. His take on the Lippershey telescope allowed him to view the sky like never before . Among his observations were the moons of Jupiter, the phases of Venus, and sun spots. This was a noteworthy opposition to the perfect heavens that were described by Aristotle. Throughout his life and career, Galileo was credited with such revolutionary discoveries that sparked the Galilean Revolution. It is in my opinion that his revolutionary work is due to him distancing himself from his predecessors via experiments, observations, thought experiments, and heavy criticism of past works. Galileo's methodology in the acquisition of knowledge is evident in his contributions to physics. One of Galileo's first contributions can be seen in Two New Sciences, where Galileo discussed the effects that scaling has on material strength. He claimed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Short Essay On Galileo Galilei Galileo Galilei, sometimes misspelled as Galileo Galiley, was an Italian mathematician, physicist, philosopher, engineer, and astronomer. He is referred to as the "Father of Science" and the "Father of Modern Physics" for his extensive contributions to the 17th century scientific revolution. He advocated for the heliocentric and Copernican views of the universe which led to his investigation, arrest, and trial by the 1615 Roman Inquisition. ==Youth and Education== Galileo Galilei, not Galiley, was born in 1564 in Pisa and baptized in the Cathedral of Pisa.Van Helden, 1995 He was the first born child of Vincenzo Galilei, a music theorist, composer, ad famous lutenist, and Giulia Ammannati. His father taught him the lute, the value of measurable experimentation, a love of rhythm and music, and a healthy suspicion of authority.Gribbin, J. R. (2007). • 3. Galileo Galilei Accomplishments "That moment when the Church excommunicates you for being right." In 1564 on February 15th in Pisa, Italy, Galileo Galilei was born. Throughout his life he had numerous accomplishments including being the first person to study the sky with a telescope, which led to numerous other astronomically astronomical discoveries. If he would not have existed we may never have uncovered many of the truths about space and astronomy. Galileo Galilei was a man of thought and curiosity, these characteristics led him to be one the most well known and influential scientists in the world today. Vincenzo Galilei and Giulia Ammannati were his parents. His father was a composer and lute player and his musical talents were then passed down to Galileo. Galileo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He continued to do research in understanding the motion of falling objects. He was also very interested in the physics behind the pendulum. Once Hans Lippershey invented the telescope he began studying and eventually improving upon the design. Though he is often falsely credited with creating the telescope, he was the first person to use the telescope. The use of the telescope led him to discover new characteristics of space and the solar system. He discovered Jupiter's four largest moons and the rings of Saturn. He also discovered that the Milky Way galaxy is comprised of stars. The observation of mountains on the moon was made by Galileo as well. He also made numerous discoveries within these discoveries. One of his biggest and most significant discoveries was the confirmation that the sun was the center of the universe. This idea of a sun–centered universe is called a heliocentric universe. This idea was first proposed by Nicolaus Copernicus. The Catholic Church believed that the Earth was the center of the universe. This is called a geocentric universe. • 4. Galileo Galilei Research Paper Charting the Stars: Galileo Galilei Galileo Galilei was a great Italian astronomer, mathematician and philosopher, whose explorations and discoveries opened new doorways of ideas in the science field. In 1609, Galileo constructed his own telescope, which he used to explore the wonders of the heavens. He followed Copernicus' heliocentric philosophy and was able to prove it by observing the night sky. In 1610, Galileo discovered four moons orbiting around Jupiter. He published his findings in his book "The Starry Messenger". The observation of four moons orbiting around Jupiter went against the geocentric ideal, which everything revolves around the Earth. In the same year, Galileo observed and recorded the phases of Venus. He found that the phases showed that Venus did not revolve around the Earth, but rather around the Sun. He said that Venus shows phases like the moon; therefore, it must revolve around the Sun and not around the Earth. If the Sun and Venus revolved around the Earth, the phases of Venus would be vastly different because the Sun's position is beyond Venus' position. In 1632, Galileo published his findings proving the heliocentric idea, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was previously believed, that when two objects of different masses were dropped from the same height, that the heavier of the two would reach the ground first due to its larger mass. In 1650, Galileo climbed to the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and dropped two cannonballs, of different masses, from the same height. Both balls, even though they had different masses, landed at the same time. He concluded that the forced pulling down on the objects must be the same and the only factor that may affect the timing is air resistance. Galileo also discovered that an object accelerates uniformly due to gravity, through his ramp experiment. He released a ball at the top of a ramp and found that the displacement of the ball was equal to time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Galileo Galilei Research Papers Galileo Galilei Galileo Galilei was born on February 15, 1564, and died on January 8, 1642, from the cause of heart palpitations. He was an Italian polymath who was a central figure in the transition from natural philosophy to modern science. Most of his life was based on arguing that heliocentrism is right and geocentrism is wrong. Galileo agreed with Nicolaus that the Sun was in the center of the universe which he confirmed using the crude refracting telescope and the 20x lens. The Church disagreed with him, they didn't want their thousands of years of teaching to go down the drain in seconds and therefore he was charged with heresy twice. He also discovered that there are rings around Saturn and found out about four different moons orbiting Jupiter: Callisto, Ganymede, Io, and Europa. Galileo was born and raised in Pisa, Italy with a healthy family of two parents, and five siblings. Galileo gave private and public lessons in mathematics in Florence and Siena. Newton used Galileo's work to help formulate his laws of motion and how gravity works and affects objects. Although Galileo refined it to the point where he can see further than any other telescope at the time. It was also the starting point of the powerful kinds of the telescope we have today. Galileo is not the first scientist to postulate that the earth revolved around the sun, he definitely is the one credited to prove the Copernican theory because he was the one publicly spoke about it. At the time no one believed him except for another scientist who has seen that the earth revolves around the sun. Everyone at the time believed in geocentrism which the church had been teaching for thousands of years. Galileo was born on February 15th, 1564, in Pisa, Italy, and was the oldest son of the revered musician, Vincenzo Galilei, a major contributor to music theory and the practice of music. Throughout his life, Galileo made contributions to the sciences of motion, astronomy, and the classification of materials based on strength. Galileo was not a musician, which was rather ironic as his father was one of the most well known musicians of the time period. During his early life, instead of focusing on music and the arts, the young Galileo attended the University of Pisa to study medicine, but dropped out after finding that his real passion was mathematics. The mathematician ended up making arithmetic and philosophy his career, which his father protested. Although Galileo did not study music as a child, he still found ways to express himself, discovering new and different ideas in astronomy, mathematics, and philosophy. • 7. Galileo Galilei Influence On Religion The sixteenth and seventeenth centuries were a time a serious theological and scientific debate. Many people still held firmly to the idea that the Bible was the word of God and therefore the complete truth. But with so much evidence to the contrary, some people were turning away from the mixed messages of the Bible and moving towards the possibility that science, or natural philosophy, could answer questions that were otherwise unexplained. Galileo Galilei, like other scientists and explorers of his time, boldly faced religious condemnation in order to pursue his endeavors. Galileo's plea to the Grand Duchess Christina of Tuscany provides valuable insight into the struggle for scientists to overcome antiquated religious ideology and the power it has on human perception. ... In those circumstances it is important to be open to new ideas and not let unconfirmed ideology influence your results. Any bias to personal opinion or belief devalues the process. His theological opponents were guilty of this, using Biblical passages against him in writings, even if the arguments presented with them were not sound. Without sound arguments to rely on, fear of damnation was used to try and turn people away from Galileo's beliefs. They warned people of condemnation from the Pope, exploiting the belief that the Pope is infallible. Galileo Galilei Contributions "Galileo, perhaps more than any single person, was responsible for the birth of modern science...Galileo was one of the first to argue that man could hope to understand how the world works, and moreover, that he could do this by observing the real world" . So, quoted Stephen Hawking. Galileo Galilei was a man who did not take others work for granted, testing and experimenting until theories, formulas, and inventions were proven or corrected. This way of thinking enabled him to prove some of Aristotles and Archimedes doctrines wrong. He improved many inventions of others, while still creating some exciting new ones of his own in the process. World changing inventions such as the telescope, which ultimately assisted in space exploration can be attributed to this man. Galileo Galilei left a lasting impression, inspiring the birth of modern science. Galileo Galilei was born on the 15th of February 1564 in Pisa Italy, the home town of the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. Galileo's parents were Vincenzo and Giulia. He was born just three days before the famous painter and sculptor Michelangelo Buonarroti died. He was the oldest of 4 children; with siblings Virginia (b. 1573), Michelangelo (b. 1575) and Livia (b. 1578). In the early 1570's Galileo's family moved from Pisa to Florence–the capital of Tuscany. A pioneer of the scientific method, Galileo was one of the few scientists of the time who actually used experiments to prove their own hypotheses. In Rebecca Marcus' opinion: "We accept this scientific method... as the only proper one... It has been discussed that the church didn't like the Copernican system because it endangered the whole beginning of the universe. "The heavens were no longer a spiritual world but a world of matter. Humans were no longer at the center, and God was no longer in a specific place." The system created such doubts that it seemed right for them just to criticize it. He made a decision to aim the telescope towards the heavens. He published a small booklet, The Starry Messenger, in which he told about his discoveries. He told that the moon was not flat and smooth but that it is round like the earth and had mountains and craters. He saw Venus had phases like the moon, which proved that it rotated around the sun. He also saw that earth was not the only planet to have a moon, but that Jupiter had a moon that did not revolve around the earth. In 1612, Galileo published Discourse on Bodies in water. He was refuting the Aristotelian explanation that not all objects float on water and why objects float on water. He said that objects didn't float because of their flat shape, but the weight of the object along with the water it displaced. In 1613, Galileo published his observations on sunspots, which proved Aristotelian doctrine that the sun had nothing imperfect about it to be wrong. How Did Galileo Galilei This paper will be discussing the research of Galileo Galilei and why the church stopped him from continuing any of his research by explaining who he was, what was his research, and why the church prevented him from continuing any research in the future. Vincenzo Galilei, Galileo Galilei's father, was a mathematician and a musician. His wife, Giulia, was well educated and came from a noble family that had lost much of their power. They had and raised seven children. Galileo, being the oldest, was a curious young man like his father. He was a very intellectual little boy and started school at the age of 10. Galileo's father was becoming very ill and had to pass on the family to Galileo, which he could not support himself with his jobless situation. He went on looking for a job and found his first job at his old school, University of Pisa. His research consisted of a lot of mathematics and trying to prove Aristole's theories wrong. All of the teachings were based of the theories of Aristole, and since the church was the head of all power no one questioned the church and the beliefs. One of the first theories that Galileo proved wrong was that all objects fall at different rates depending of the weight of the object. Galileo researched this and proved the theory wrong by dropping of two weights of different masses off the leaning tower of Pisa. Both of the objects fell at the same time and that proved that Aristole was wrong. In later years a man named Han Lippershey created the very first telescope. The telescope displayed objects that were really far away as if they were at arm's reach. The flaw to Han's telescope was that it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He re evolved the way science was seen in the world, proving that the teachings of the Greek philosopher Aristotle were wrong, through using experiments that everybody could see. He created the modern rules for motion, primarily those of falling objects. He also showed how objects floated, further disputing Aristotle's theories. What Aristotle thought just made sense, so people believed him, but Galileo disrupted the whole system by creating and evolving theories, but then also testing them, forming the modern basis for experiments. The church reputed it's charges on Galileo long after he was dead, and Pope John Paul II stated that he regrets how the Galileo affair was handled. He was also allowed to publish books as well, with the only condition that they provided an objective view and do not advocate Copernican theory. In 1632, Galileo published the Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems, a discussion among three people: one who supports Copernicus' heliocentric theory of the universe, one who argues against it, and one who is impartial. Though Galileo claimed Dialogues was neutral, it was clearly not. It spiked a negative reaction from the Church, and Galileo was summoned to Rome by the Church. During the proceedings of Inquisition, which lasted from September 1632 to July 1633, Galileo was treated with respect and was never imprisoned. During his time teaching at Pisa University he experimented with suspended objects by swinging them and following the path that they moved or the shape that they made as they swung. By doing this he discovered the principle of the pendulum. Using his discovery they were able to invent an instrument that measured pulse rate of patients. After other people started to here about Galileo's discovery they tried to improve upon it. It was later adapted to create the first "reliable pendulum clock in 1656"("Galilei Galileo"). Galileo also did experiments on gravity. Galileo demonstrated the laws of gravity "by dropping bodies of different weights from the top of the famous Leaning Tower, that the speed of fall of a heavy object is not proportional to its weight, as Aristotle had claimed" ("Galileo"). Galileo proved that Aristotle's theory about gravity was incorrect and that no matter what size or weight all objects fall at the same velocity(Drake 22). He also helped improve the telescope. His improvements to the telescope allowed him to view not just stars but also Jupiter's moons, spots on the sun, and the uneven rough surface of our moon in 1608. He was an Italian scientist, physicist, mathematician, philosopher, inventor, and astronomer. His ideas and observations are to thank for modern physics and astronomy, today. Born on February 15, 1564, in Pisa, Italy, Galileo helped open the eyes of many to a new way of thinking about our solar system. This earned him the nickname of "The Father of Modern Science." Galileo's findings were considered controversial because they challenged what others were told to believe. When he published his book in 1604, The Operations of the Geometrical and Military Compass, it showed many of his skills. He also made a balance that specifically measured small objects.
