Barbie Dolls Have Changed
How a childhood object has changed over time and how it is related to broader contexts.
In this essay I am going to be discussing and assessing how the 'Barbie Doll' which is a toy for children, mainly for girls has changed over the years
since the 1900's to the present generation and how this relates to other larger contexts like class, gender, race, disability and faith. Below I have inserted
2 pictures of the Barbie doll, One from 1959 and one from 2010, which is fairly recent. 1950's: The first Barbie Doll 2010 Barbie Doll(s)
I strongly believe that the Barbie Dolls have changed hugely since the 1900's. This is because throughout my research I found that Barbie dolls have
changed a lot since the 57 years gone by until present times. Initially, Barbie had curly bangs as a hair design ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I believe that Barbie has changed massively over the years in skin colour, hair colour and sizes. Piaget has created the theory of learning through
play. He says children engage themselves In imaginative play which means that if they see a story or characters they are most likely to imitate
them and what they do. When children imitate others they develop a vocabulary which allows them to name the world around them. This relates to
dolls because if a child is given a doll which moves and does things around a doll house like cleaning, a child will imitate that around the house and
act like a house wife like the doll. This shows that dolls are created in that way to leave a image in the child's head on what a girl does when she
grows up, likewise how the dolls have changed, whilst children grow older they have certain changes in them

Object Permanence
The third time I visited Vera, I started testing her understanding of object permanence. I did the same test as last time, with putting her teddy under
the blanket. Right when I put the bear under the blanket, Vera reached under and retrieved the teddy. Since she was able to do that, I tried the A
not B error. When I put the teddy under the first blanket, she got it. Then when I put it under the second blanket, she looked under the first blanket.
This confirmed Piagets theory of the A not B error (Crosby, 108). I also noticed that Vera enjoys solitary play. If I am in the room with her and
sitting on the couch, she will gladly play with her toys alone. This is not an issue at her age. If she continued this past age five or six, then it could
be a red flag of something such as anxiety according to Burgess, Rubin, Cheah, and Nelson (Crosby, 489). She also responded to simple requests.
For example if you asked for a high five, she would do it. When I started singing "When You're Happy and You know it," she could clap. The next
thing I did was giving Vera her bottle, and to my surprise, she now holds the bottle with one hand. In addition, I noticed that she was eating most
all–normal foods now. She had a peanut butter sandwich cut up in very small pieces. The last thing I did was ask... Show more content on

It is also harder to measure her social development of Vera because she is not yet talking and does not have friends to measure the social ability. She
smiles and babbles at people but that is mostly it. In addition, it is more difficult to measure her mental development because she cannot talk yet and
understand her mental state. The only way we can understand her emotions is through her face and body language. Lastly, there is limited information
about things such as key life events because she is so

From Little Girl to Sex Goddess: the Negative Influence of...
Young people of today look to society for influences in how they should look and act. Children are influenced daily by television, Internet and video
games, friends, and even the toys they play with. Boys grow up wanting to be like the superheroes and G.I. Joe figures they play with; girls look to
their Barbies and dolls to see how society mandates teens and young adults to be. Bratz dolls are also among those Barbie–type toys that girls are
looking up to these days. Bratz dolls are similar to Barbie in form; however, Bratz are more fashionable and "hip" than the traditional blonde–haired,
blue–eyed Barbie. In fact, the more fashionable and "hip" the dolls become, the more negative the image becomes that they exude. The outrageous

The "Neon Pop Diva" collection features all the dolls in patent leather outfits (www.bratz.com). Furthermore, the "SpringTime" Collection features two
of the dolls in one–piece bunny catsuit pants with bunny ears; this is particularly similar to the image of a Playboy bunny (www.bratz.com). One critic
describes one of the newer doll?s outfits, saying, "A Bratz Princess –– one of the newer versions –– wears a tiara and, instead of a ball gown, a tight
camouflage T–shirt and a short skirt" (Talbot). This image of short and skimpy is not the message today?s young girls should be influenced by.
Because of the sexual nature of the accessories – especially the clothing – the influence from these dolls to young girls is negative, and the dolls should
be recalled immediately.
Lastly, the advertising for the Bratz dolls displays a negative image that should not be portrayed to children of the toy?s target audience. One critic
states that the company marketing Bratz dolls is holding on to the "six–to–twelve–year–old market"(Talbot). Children this age are subjected to
marketing plugs like the games on the official Bratz web sites entitled "Love Meter," or links to "What?s Hot" (www.bratz.com). Children in this target
age range should not be interested in things of that nature, or should not be taught to be interested in things of that nature. Even the bios of the
different Bratz dolls advertise an attitude of sexuality. One doll, named

The Youngest Doll
Throughout the year we have read many stories where reality and fantasy come into question. Once again we have this same problem with "The
Youngest Doll". What makes us question reality or fantasy in the story is the vivid description the author gives of thedolls that the aunt makes for the
girls. With the description of the "wax mask of the child's face" or the "porcelain of the hands and face", it gives off the allusion that what may seem
as a reality may in fact be a fantasy and it is that allusion that gives off the feeling of uncanniness. This is not the only theme that is displayed
throughout the story, the others being "eyes", as well as women being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

frenzied antennae of all those prawns."(page 249). This shows that once the dolls eyes were removed then the women that it was made for is now
becoming the object and replacing the doll. When you consider something being an object you don't consider it to be a human. When it comes to the
husband the doll has no sentimental value to him, but when the doll goes missing you see in the story that he spends some time looking for the doll,
"That night the doctor dug up all the ground around the house, but could not find the doll." Many people could argue that the doll was so human like

"The Doll's House" by Katherine Mansfield Essay
Katherine Mansfield's "The Dolls House" seems to be a simple story about children receiving a own ideas and opinions. Even though everyone is
entitled to their own opinion it is often bizarre to see how our opinions are based on those of others. This essay will outline the events that occurred in
the story which are a big part in regards to the two different worlds of adults and children, and how they are separated from each other.
The Dolls House is a story where you can see the cruelty of children towards each other. This story is centered on the concept of three middle class
girls who are given a beautiful doll's house as a present. They are thrilled about the new toy just how any child would feel when they receive a new doll
or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead these two poor girls are from a mother, who is a washerwoman, and they do not know who and where their father is but rumor is that the father
is in jail. So ideally the mothers of the children of middle minds with adult matters, children start thinking like adults.
Another situation in the story that splits adulthood and childhood into two separate worlds is when the Burnell children want to show their friends the
new doll house, but they are told by their mother that they can set up the doll house in the courtyard but not allow their friends to come inside for tea
or wander throughout the house. Usually children are open hearted and when they have a friend over they want to show them around their house,
offer them a snack make them feel at home. But in this story the mother of the Burnell children wants the children to stay outside and not expect to be
fed or be allowed in the house. The reason that the mother doesn't want children to come inside is because they may mess up the house or break
something, and if she gives one child tea, she has to give others as well which may turn out a bit expensive.
This particular short story is a satire about the two different worlds between adults and children. It may be narrated by someone who perhaps may
have been an adult who was lost in a child's world, like an adult who still has a heart and soul of a child

Why Litigation, Adr, Or Criminal Prosecution? Essay
INTRODUCTION
In this essay, I will be writing to show whether I believe litigation, ADR, or criminal prosecution is the appropriate response the three scenarios
presented. The three examples given were a secretary who has been taking money from the company she works for, with the intent of paying it back
but never did; a little girl who was rendered brain damaged as a result of swallowing the toy finger of the toy doll that her father purchased for her; and
a company that loss money as a result of not being able to ship product due to receiving an incorrect shipment from one of their suppliers.
THE SCRETARY AND THE CHECK ABUNDANCE
Adele is employed as a secretary and one of the responsibilities that she entrusted with is purchasing office supplies. In order for to complete this
task, she writes checks to pay for the office supplies. Over the course of her employment, she finds herself in a situation where she does not have
enough money for the week, to buy food for her and her daughter. At this point, she is either far too comfortable with the company or extremely
desperate, so she writes a check to herself on behalf of the company. Though her intentions are to immediately replace the monies that she has
wrongfully taken, before she does, she finds herself in this situation again and takes more money from the company. Eventually her desperate situation
becomes commonplace and her actions as a result catch up to her when the account manager come across the

"Mandragora" written by David McRobbie.
M A N D R A G O R A
David McRobbie's Mandragora (Mammoth Australia) is another contemporary novel with links to a historic shipwreck, the sinking of the Dunarling.
Adam and Catriona have found a cache of four small dolls made from mandrake roots. The dolls were left in the cave by two other teenagers, Jamie
and Margaret, who had survived the wreck of the Dunarling. Transcribing a diary from that same voyage, Adam and Catriona learn the power of the
cursed mandrake roots, power that destroyed the Dunarling in 1886 and that is resurfacing in the town of Dunarling today.
Chapter One. Here we are told of the trecherous journey of the 'Dunarling', it's crew and passangers.

In other cases, they were brought and sold for evil motives, probably to exact revenge for a real or imagined grievence. The plant itself was also used
to concoct love potions or to make women fertile. The mandrake has been mentioned in the Bible and has appared in the works of Shakespeare and
John Donne. Throughout the years, many superstitious beleifs grew up about the mandragora plant. Some people thought it was certain death to pull a
mandrake root from the ground so a rope was teid to a dog and the unfortunate animal, on being chased, pulled out the root and died. Mandrakes were
also supposed to utter a shriek when they were uprooted from the earth. These present examples were found in the recently discovered cave in which
James Ramsay and Margaret Colquhoun, the 'Dunarling' survibors, sheltered after the drama of the shipwreck".
In town, there was a deliberately lit fire at the Dunarling museum. On the 'Dunarling' there was another deliberately lit fire, on Sunday 4th of April 1886.

Analysis Of Henrik Ibsen 's A Doll House
The production of any theatrical performance is an assembly of creativity, interpretation, and collaboration. Typically, the task of imagining and guiding
the integration of all these elements belongs to the director. One of the toughest tasks of a director is to reinvigorate a socially important and renowned
production while maintaining its original message and composition. Henrik Ibsen's A Doll House is a socially important realistic play that portrays the
gender dynamics that plagued the nineteenth century and questions the expectations held for women in a household and society. The play is still
incredibly influential because the issues it addresses are still prevalent decades later. The original play is so accredited and well known that directors
face a tough challenge of trying to reconstruct it in a memorable way. One director, Lee Breuer, attempted to do so in his Mabou Mines DollHouse
production. In agreement with Elinor Fuchs' review, through creative directorial decisions on setting, casting, and music, Breuer uniquely reignited the
fire in Ibsen's play without drifting from the original message. Before discussing the specific stylistic decisions Breuer took to reconstruct and
modernize Ibsen's play, it is important to obtain a clear definition of reconstruction in theater, which is different from other forms of reconstruction.
Generally, reconstruction is the rebuilding of something that has been broken. However, it would not be fair to say that Ibsen's A Doll

Toys Are an Influence Essay
Watery eyes, flaring nostrils, flailing limbs, and the temper of a furious bull, your child is having a horrendous tantrum. Even though you've taught
them morals and positive values, this seems to recurring issue. There is one question all parents must ask themselves, " What kind of outside
influences am I allowing my child to govern themselves with on a daily basis?" These days, boys and girls alike face the incessant impact of society
in their social, intellectual, emotional, and behavioral lives. This influence starts at a young age with the toys and games our little tykes surround
themselves with. "By avoiding specific toys, you should be able to steer clear of violent behavior that you don't want to see in your child." (Halter) Kids

" CBS News suggest that parents choose toys for their toddlers and preschoolers that teach skills because a young child's brain will grab hold of these
permanent marks and carry through with them all the way to adulthood." (Halter) These playthings not only teach skills, but confidence, because they
learn to enjoy accomplishing any task they face. Many say educational toys are the best way to go because it stimulate tools a child will use throughout
their schooling. "Some toys have a powerful influence on children's thinking, interaction with peers, and creative expression." (Prof. Trawick–Smith)
The environment around a child has an incredible impact on their development. From a home setting, to a park setting to a school setting a child is
constantly learning. Many studies have been done to determine how individual toys can affect a child because it is important for parents and educators
to be informed. Even though many adults have their own idea of what is a good instrument for their child's growth, research and test can help point the
way. " We code children's use of the toys in the areas using a coding instrument that we have developed: thinking/ learning/ problem solving, social
interaction, and creativity."(Prof. Trawick–Smith) The research done at NAEYA says that toys for a classroom setting are very important, and should

Mattel 's Iconic And Best Selling Brand
Mattel's iconic and best–selling brand is The Barbie. Introduced in 1959 as "The Teenage Fashion Model," Barbie allowed girls to experience fashion
and to explore various dreams, fantasies and aspirations without ever leaving home. Because of the introduction of the television in the 1950 's,
companies discovered a new consumer audience among children and teenagers. The post–war era saw a strong economy advancing the middle class
suburban families. Now, buying toys became a year round business versus holiday or luxury items.
Barbie's image has since transitioned from the archaic glamourous 50's house wife to an image that has become a part of the American fabric, by
reflecting the women of each generation. The Barbie brand is known for its lucrative collaborations, having created collector's items for iconic
brands such as Chanel, Oscar De La Renta, Coca Cola, and most famously the Disney Princess line. This franchise has recently gone through a
drastic product rebirth over the past 10 years; modifying the traditional and controversial measurements, in order to make Barbie appear more
realistic and naturally proportionate and physically diverse. According to an article in The Atlantic ", [Barbie] will now come in a variety of shapes
and shades. (And also: a variety of hairstyles, and eye colors, and "face sculpts.") The doll will still be fairly cartoonish–this is Barbie, after all–but,
from today, she can be bought in sizes "petite" and "tall" and "curvy." (Garber, 2016)

instantly the girl told him that those where girl toys and he couldn't play with them. I sat there for a second thinking the same as my cousin, "He doesn't

Other than leading to a violent lash out, men acting this way may face other issues. If they feel unfree to show emotion, compassion, or vulnerability
(all generally associated with femininity) this could really impact their own human nature. All of these traits, although seeming feminine are necessary
things to make up a good person. According to Jackson Katz in his documentary Tough Guise 2: Violence,Manhood & American Culture, "Qualities like
compassion, caring, empathy, intellectual curiosity, fear, vulnerability, evenlove– basic human qualities that boys have inside them every bit as much
as girls do – get methodically driven out of them by asexist and homophobic culturethat labels these things unmanly, feminine, womanly, and gay,
and teaches boys to avoid them at all costs." If these characteristics are things that men have, and make them a better person, why is it so merely
reinforced by society that men shouldn't have the qualities? If a guy is blocking these out because they're not manly, there could be some serious
repercussions. These characteristics that are generally associated with women are made fun of in men and they often feel their masculinity is
becoming threatened. Due to this men may suppress certain emotional issues, especially around other men. An example of this is shown in the book

Executive Summary: Cazar Slime Making Box
https://www.toysrus.com/product?productId=127700826
The toy that I picked is the Nickelodeon Deluxe Slime making kit. The toy is a do–it–yourself slime making kit that makes customizable slime. The kit
comes with glue, slime activator, scented and non–scented colorant, glitter, beads, measuring cups, mixing sticks, and "easy to follow instructions".
Nickelodeons signature marketing tool is slime, so the appeal of toy is very high in kids. Another reason why I picked it is because there is a high
trend in slime making in kids today. I personally saw many kids that I use to babysit make slime, sell it, and even have their own slime Instagram
accounts. Also, I technically don't know if I am buying this toy for a boy or girl so it's a very gender–neutral toy that I think all kids will enjoy. As a
kid, I use to play with Polly Pockets which are tiny dolls that have jelly clothes so it's easy to change outfits. I also use to play with my Razor scooter a
lot because it was my main source of transportation as a child. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first thing that I noticed is that there are both girls and boys playing with the toy in the commercial. Both genders have equal parts, and both
are seen making and playing with the slime. The first scene is actually a black girl playing with the slime. Also, they had a boy playing with pink
slime and a girl playing with green slime. This toy was definitely created and marketed with a modern mindset. The creators broke gender
socialization and made an inclusive toy for all kids. As I was searching for a toy online, it was very blatant that there are girl toys and there are boy
toys. If you click on 'categories' there are: top rated, boy's toys, girl's toys, age, brand, and character. If you click on 'age' then its shows from birth to 11
years are girl toys, yet none of the pictures shown are educationally or merit

My Mother Was Never A Strict Woman
My mother was never a strict woman. She kept rules to a minimum of one. It was short, simple, and easy to follow: don't go into the woods at
Grammie's house. I would ask why, and she would tell me that sometimes people who went in didn't come out. She said this the way a mother would
explain where all the birds went during winter, or why the green left the trees in fall. It wasn't an ominous warning, it was just a fact. Sometimes people
who go into Grammie's woods don't come back out. When I asked why, she always found a way to change the subject. Sometimes I think the universe
helped her, by ringing the phone in the nick of time or sending someone to our door to draw her attention for a few hours. She didn't need too many
diversions – I only asked about once or twice. By the time I left Grammie's house for the first time, I knew why. "Jesus," Felicity grumbles, pushing
the toe of her Vans into a soft spot in the wood of our bedroom. It groans deeply under the pressure, and sighs when she releases it. "This place
should be condemned or something." I grin. "Creaks don't condemn a house." "What about that?" She points at a dark patch in the ceiling. "It looks
like someone died in the attic and literally bled through the floor." "Ooo, maybe we'll see a ghost," I say, shrugging my jacket off in trade for a thick
sweater from my suitcase. I forgot how cold this house can get in winter. I remember once when I was little I found a dead bird in the backyard with its

Collectible Doll Research Paper
Collectible dolls are all over the place and it is important to know about what is really collectible and what types there are out there that will make you
the most money. There are many different types and we will go through them in this article.
Cloth dolls are the most basic of all of them. They are made with cloth, yarn, paint, and fabric. Their faces are painted on, their hair is made out of
yarn, and typically the clothing is made out of fabric. There are composition ones that are made up of multiple types of compounds. Bisque dolls are
made of unglazed porcelain that is tinted. These were mostly made by Germans and the French.
In the 1930's hard plastic variety came into existence and became very popular from the 40's to the 50's. Their faces are usually more defined and
that makes them more unique. Metal dolls either are made out of metal just at their head or their whole body is made out of it. They are made out of
various metals such as tin, pewter, brass, and silver. These have been around since the 1880's and are rarely made now but still very collectible.... Show

Kate Chopin's work, The Awakening, and Henrik Ibsen's play, A Doll's House, were written at a time when men dominated women in every aspect of

Two main similarities of Edna and Nora are that they both have an awakening and are like caged birds without freedom; one main difference is that

When the saying is translated into English it means, Get out! Get out! Damn in!; the caged bird sends the message that Edna needs to get out of
her marriage to make everything right in her life. Like Edna, Nora is reflected as a trapped bird. Nora, in "A Doll's House," is constantly referred
to as a bird by her husband, Helmer. As in the quote, "And I couldn't wish you anything but just what you are, my sweet little lark" (Ibsen 972).
Helmer show his ownership of Nora and how she is his little bird. Unlike the image of a caged parrot, Nora is a bird trapped by the dominance of her
husband.
A second similarity is that Edna and Nora each had an awakening about her own marriage. Edna's awakening took place early in the novel, while
Nora's awakening occurred at the end of the play. The realization that she was not happy taking care of her husband, house or children began Edna's
awakening. Represented by the quote, "An indescribable oppression, which seemed to generate in some unfamiliar part of her consciousness, filled her
whole being with a vague anguish" (Chopin 14). Edna feels the entrapment of her marriage that has been present subconsciously, and it fills her mind
and soul with pain and hurt. At the end of "A Doll's House," Nora announces to her husband the need to leave the marriage due to the oppression
caused by his power over her. Nora feels as though their marriage has never been a true marriage, and that Helmer and herself never truly knew

A Literary Analysis of "Lullabies for Little Criminals"
In "Lullabies for Little Criminals," there are many small objects that are relevant to Baby's life. Objects can have remarkably profound effects on a
person's life, whether they are of sentimental value or another form of personal meaning, they have an impact on us. An object can mean many things

Teenage Girls And Girls With Pink And Little Boys
As we can see in the first set of advertisements above, there are toys that are specifically intended to capture the interest in boys and girls
separately. Here we can see how certain features in the advertisements help aid in the socialization of children in regards to gender. Over the last
couple decades, it's been custom to shower little girls with pink and little boys with blue while they are young, before they learn to choose their own
favorite colors. These colors of pink and blue then become a part of gender identification for the child and this is the reason why, in the top article,
that the left article is mostly pink to capture the attention of girls and blue on the right to peek the interest of little boys. There also is a big
difference in the toys when it comes to nurturing. On the left advertisement at the top the girls have toys that require more nurturing and gentle
treatment. For example the baby dolls need to be nurtured and gently played with as well as the Barbie dolls needs are made for their hair to be
brushed and different outfits to be changed. Also one will notice that the toys for the girls are toys which are more acceptable for playing indoors.
On the other hand, the boys have toys that are not expected to be gently handled, for instance, the Star wars sword and helicopter are meant to be

Toys Are Today 's Society Essay
Toys Are Us
In today's society, parents throughout the United States differ on their views towards children's toys. Some children face different options and
consequences when wanting a toy from the opposite gender section. Occasionally, you will see in the headlines of a newspaper saying how
progressive a mother is because she allows her son to wear a princess costume. Mainly, the toys that are aimed towards boys are associated with
sports and aggression. Yet for girls, the toys that are aimed towards them are associated with homemaking and glamor. These qualities are so
recognized and known that I have decided to do an essay on them to see what is alike and what is different in the areas of the toys. I decided to
follow two families for this analysis. These two families both come from a Mexican culture. In household X, the family is both Mexican and American.
In household Y, the family comes from a strict Mexican culture. In response to my analysis, based on what I have seen in both of the households I
visited, I feel as though the children should choose what matters to them in relevance to the fun. Allowing the children to have a variety of toys opens
up different skills. Different toys bring different challenges. Parents should not restrict their children to strong gender toys, as though it could not help
them develop physically, academically, artistically, cognitively, and musically.
In household X, the family of six had a young daughter who is approximately three years

The Voodoo Of Voodoo Dolls
It is easy to look back at history and see a clear pattern and relation between different cultures, objects, rituals, etc. When you take a deeper look into
origins, you'll often be surprised by what you find. Minkondi (plural for nkondi), are sculptures made and used in the 19th century by African cultures.
They served a very specific purpose and had a very sacred importance. The Nkisi Nkondi functioned as a hunter–healer of conflicts. The people would
take their worries, requests and fears to the figure to call on the spirits. Voodoodolls on the other hand, are often misunderstood and misrepresented.
The Voodoodoll is a ritualized way of calling on spirits to target a specific person. The doll can be used a number of things including luck, power, love
and most commonly recognized, for evil and harm. The Nkisi Nkondi sculptures and Voodoo dolls, even though they are from different cultures and
time periods, have a number of similarities and one may have influenced the creation of the other. "Nkisi" refers to the spiritual being of the figure,
and "nkondi" comes from the word konda, which means to hunt, refers to the figure itself. Minkondi, representative of hunters, can catch those who
undermine the frame of society. The Nkisi Nkondi is typically shaped in a human form. There are few Nkisi Nkondi that are shaped like dogs, which
were seen as sacred animals. The Nkisi Nkondi weren't literal representations of the spirits that they called on. The way the figures were

Social Oppression Of Society In 'The Doll's House'
In a short story by Katherine Mansfield called "The Doll's House," there is a social barrier between a family with less that is struggling to make ends
meet and a flourishing family, that appears to not have any difficulties getting through life. The Kelvey family, whose hard–working mother makes the
best of life that she can by crafting clothing from materials she can salvage from the wealthy clients' houses she cleans. The Burnell family, who is
getting through life with ease because of their position in the wealthy class, is the complete opposite in lifestyles. The short story "The Doll's House"
suggests society is unfair to the people with less and that possessions play a part in the deciding factor whether people will be your friend, but it only
takes one person to break from the social expectations.
Society is unfair to people with less. Having less in life can range from a wide spectrum of things from age, which Isabel is the oldest out of the
three Burnell daughters, all the way to materialistic valuables like the Burnell's doll's house. The narrator states, "Isabel was bossy, but she was
always right, and Lottie and Kezia knew too well the powers that went with being eldest." This was unfair to Isabel Burnell's two younger siblings
because of the remarks that Isabel would say to the younger siblings, such as "'I'm to tell,' said Isabel, 'because I'm the eldest'" about breaking the news
to their fellow classmates in school about the dollhouse. The more that Isabel's

Dolls And Violence
Some people think letting their children play with toys that are bad for them is a good thing. But that is not such a good thing. Children can get
tied into the idea that some toys are reality. The dolls are just nonrealistic body image influences. Toy guns and video games are just promoting
violence in the world. The way parents allow their children to play overrated video games and toy guns is telling their child that violence is okay.
Toy dolls, toy guns, and rated video games can cause emotional, or social problems for children by impacting generation Z's self–image, views on
violence and war, and problem solving. The dolls children play with can cause self– image issues. Barbie and Bratz can give the wrong message.

Parents just want their children to play with the worst. There are toys out there that are appropriate for children. Barbie is one of the worst ones.
Barbie is a girl with a skinny body and long tall legs. She gives girls the wrong idea on body image. The video games these days can give children
nightmares and scare them. Children need their sleep to function well in the day time. (Can Children's Toys Create Problems) There are toys such as
dolls, toy guns, and age–rated video games can affect children in many ways. These toys can cause lots of psychological issues. It influences
everything that the child must do with the worlds future and what they influence. Many children do play video games that are overrated, but their
parents allow them to play these games because their parents believe that these games will help them be ready for the future. Allowing children to
play with dolls is not a smart idea. Parents believe allowing their children to play with toys teaches them social skills. (Jennings) Giving children toy
guns can promote violence in children. Child violence is not looked up to by parents or adults. Toy guns show inappropriate behaviors in children but
mainly male children play with toy guns the most. Girls playing with toy guns can be a gender role issue. Meaning that girls believe they are boys and
boys believing they are girls.

New Heritage's dolls and accessories were offered under distinct brands with different price points, targeting girls between the ages of 3 and 12 years.
The company's baby dolls were generally priced from $15–$30, and were offered to younger girls in earlier stages of development. These dolls
typically came with a "birth certificate" and a short personal history. Dolls in the higher–end of this category incorporated technology that produced a
limited amount of speech and motion. For the

The production division, discussed further below, designed and produced dolls and doll accessories.
The retailing division offered a unique "intergenerational experience" for grandmothers, mothers, and daughters, centered upon the character histories

high levels of customer loyalty by selectively licensing the company's doll characters and themes to a variety of media that reached the firm's target
demographic of toddler to pre–teen girls. In fiscal year 2009 the licensing division generated $24.5 million of revenue and $14.5 million in operating

Reflection: Kids Are Different Today
What was your favorite childhood toy? When my mother and I were asked that question, our responses were considerably different. My mother
stated that her favorite childhood toy was her softball glove and softball, while I said that mine was my Nintendo Gameboy, circa 1989. If you were
to ask a child today what their favorite childhood toy is, I would venture to guess that their answer would be quite different from those two already
mentioned. Today, technology is not the only element that has affected change on children in today's world. The article, "Kids Really Are Different

Confidence contributes to social development, and allows that child to be open to psychological well–being and higher self esteem, which creates
positive or negative peer affiliation. According to Coyl, "Peer relations can promote social and emotional development or hinder it" (2009, p.
406). Negative or positive social situations can contribute to a child's physical development. For example, if a child has a bad fight with a friend
at school, they might come home and "stress eat" to make the situation temporarily feel better. This could contribute to child obesity causing poor
physical development. Looking at a different aspect, another example would be the fact the children are so aware of body image, and feel that they
might fit in better if they had an "ideal" body type. These factors can apply to some extent to elementary, middle level, and secondary age levels. An
effective classroom is the key to students' learning. In my future classroom, I want to apply these theories and keys to effective teaching in order to be
a successful teacher. I feel it is important for a teacher to have that connection with their students, as well as the satisfaction received when their
students understand and enjoy the material. I want my future classroom to be a comfortable environment for learning, and draw them into a world of

Theme Of Barbie Doll And The Death Of Marilyn Monroie
Poetry has a way of expressing its rage, grief, and irony at society and its social pressures. Although each poem is different, they can carry a similar
message that resonance with its audience. Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy and The Death of Marilyn Monroe by Sharon Olds express how beauty
weighs women's lives and cause a tragic end from being the perfect specimen. Both discuss a similar theme but carry the message out a difference
way. In order to understand its similarities and differences it is necessary to analyze the text to find its denotation and connotation. The poems Barbie

Both poems use names from iconic beauty icons. Barbies are seen by little girls and are the first things to influence how they should define beauty.
Normally the dolls have skinny bodies and small noses and are able to have multiple careers and are admired by men. Thus, little girls grow up
wanting to be like Barbie. Marilyn Monroe is a sex icon who looks other women began to copy. Unlike Barbie she was curvy and had an acting
career, but she was also adored by men. Both icons influenced women on how to look and impress men, but the influence becomes problematic and
difficult to maintain because only dolls and superstars to can survive that life. Even idols cannot survive that life, as proven by Monroe. Only Barbie,
an object can be seen as the "perfect woman." Both poems use these names to highlight how impossible it is for women to seen as normal or to be
accepted as they are. Thus, an early death can happen when the pressure is too much to handle and each poem has a tone of sadness at both women's

Collectible dolls are all over the place and it is important to know about what is really collectible and what types there are out there that will make you

Cloth dolls are the most basic of all of them. They are made with cloth, yarn, paint, and fabric. Their faces are painted on, their hair is made out of

made of unglazed porcelain that is tinted.

No this toy isn't gender specific, however there are different models in which some genders may prefer over the other. Different models would include
different toys, and colour.
This toy is age appropriate because there's a seat that helps the child develop their leg muscle as they can't support themselves at that age. Each leg that
supports the upper half of the toy supports movement by the baby which allows for muscle development. The sensorimotor stage involves learning
from touching and using the senses a human possesses. Also

Essay On Empathy In To Kill A Mockingbird
Throughout the course of To Kill a Mockingbird, the siblings Jem and Scout torment a man named Boo Radley because they think that he is a
malevolent ghost. Boo still loves them like a father would and keeps them under a watchful eye even though they treat him like a caged animal. Jem
and Scout do not realize this and continue to torment him. The relationship between Boo and Jem changes in the middle of the book, when Boo gives
them gifts, Jem realizes what he has done and learns that Boo is a person and learns empathy through Boo's actions. It takes Scout a little longer to
learn to have understanding for Boo and she learns it when Boo protects her from an attacker. Scout and Jem learn empathy from harassing, taunting,
and tormenting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is when Jem starts to feel empathy for Boo. Scout is even more afraid of Boo after she knows that he had watched them flee the property. When
Boo gave them the soap dolls and put them in a knot hole in a tree, Scout still considered "...everything on the Radley place was poisoned... (81)".
But it all "[had] slipped through Jem's memory (81)" as he went to go get the dolls. They also decide to write a letter to whoever was sending them
those gifts. They still denied that it was Boo though, but deep down, they knew that it was Boo who had given the gifts to them. When the knot–hole
they had been receiving the gifts from was filled up, Jem started to cry without Scout knowing why, showing that he is starting to realize Boo is a
person but Scout still thinks that Boo is an evil man. When a fire sweeps through Maycomb, Boo gave Scout a blanket without her seeing, and her
"stomach turned to water and [she] nearly threw up... (96)" because she continues to believe he is a monster. Jem has already learned the lesson of
empathy from Boo while Scout still struggles with this concept at this point in the story. At the end, Jem and Scout are attacked by Mr. Ewell, a truly
malicious man who is a drunkard. It is implied that Boo jumps in and saves them while also killing Mr. Ewell. Scout realizes "...that [Boo] had been
sitting beside [her] all this time... (371)". While Jem is unconscious, Scout then

Barbie and the Notion of Progression Since the emergence of the Barbie doll in 1959, Barbie has been a populous choice among young children, and
more specifically young girls because of its monopolization of the toy market. Barbie is a doll that has been outwardly controversial and debated upon
for years and most likely will be for many years to come. The idea of the Barbie doll is a toy for which young girls model themselves after and aspire
to be like when they mature and grow up. DuCille states, "more than simple instruments of pleasure and amusement, toys and games play crucial roles
in helping children determine what is valuable in and around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another progressive Barbie, who stems from the "I can be" line, is Presidential Barbie. This is arguably the most progressive Barbie has ever been.
There have been multiple Presidential Barbie's all within third wave time period, however this paper focusing on the recent 2012 Presidential Barbie.
Again, this Barbie is dressed conservatively, in a full pink suit, with the skirt landing below her knees and a jacket to cover up much of her skin. This
Barbie also comes equipped with platform shoes, which allow her to stand on her own for the first time in fifty–three years. This demonstrates
independence along with leadership, as she does not need someone to hold her up. The fact that she is running for President and in doing so has
stability, speaks volumes to the kind of women this Barbie is trying to portray. Presidential Barbie has a platform in which she stands for which she
titles the 5 'B's'. They include, 'B' a dreamer, 'B' creative, 'B' informed, 'B' confident, and lastly 'B' involved. Barbie's platform illustrates positive
messages for young girls and their futures. Another progressive aspect of Presidential Barbie is that the creator, Mattel created this new doll in a
partnership with The White House Project. The mission of The White House Project is to, "ignite the leadership of women in business along with
politics" (thewhitehouseproject.org). The fact that Presidential

Persuasive Essay On Baby Dolls
The practice of giving little girls baby dolls has been around since forever. Only through the years have the dolls grown more and more lifelike.
The more realistic ones that required regular feedings, burping, changing of diapers, and an assortment of a wardrobe that could rival most closets
today. Though quality came at a very high price. You would have had to have the luck of being an only child, or the favorite of all your siblings to
be able to call one of these luxurious dolls to call your own. As a child myself, I have always had a preference of fair skinned dolls than those that
mirrored my own complexion. The only explanation i could conceive is deep institutionalized racism, but it wasn't something i learned directly. It just
developed over years covertly laced within skipped chapter of my history textbooks, the media's seemingly endless reports of "thugs", and the
complete underrepresentation in my limited circle of entertainment of school, Disney movies, and books. Even with my mother's constant, effortless
strategies of expanding my collection of Barbie's from the lightest shades of cafe au lait with shiny, bone straight hair that glided through my plastic
combs with ease to the crispest, darkest shades of the night sky who hair was so thick and curly that no comb nor brush ever survived a single run
through. The Disney movies that lined my bookshelves always featured fair skinned, petite protagonists who only outstanding features was the color of
their hair.

A Dolls House Essay
It has been said that, some people think that it's holding on that makes one strong; sometimes it's letting go. In Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House,
Nora's departure becomes the controversial topic of debate for many readers; was Nora Helmer justified in leaving her husband and kids or not? It is
argued that both parents are needed for a child to succeed in life and that separation is an act of cowardness. However, several readers also debate that
Nora was justified in leaving Torvald and her kids. The mistreatment Nora constantly faced through offensive nicknames, her child–like mentality that
made her unfit to take care of her children and her identity as a doll demonstrate her need to leave the Helmer household.
Nora's maltreatment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, this behaviour becomes evident when Nora offers to help Mrs. Linde and she responds, "it is doubly kind in you, for you know so little
of the burdens and troubles of life" (1.359–60) proceeded by "you are a child, Nora" (1.363). Consequently, Nora responds in an immature manner by
tossing her head and crossing the stage (1.702–03). Evidence of her childish behaviour and naГЇve mentality reveals the underlying need for her to
grow and to do so she must find herself. In summary, the family nurse and Nora's immaturity and naivety justify her decision to leave Torvald and her
kids to find herself to gain the independence needed to become the mother that her children needed.
Nora was a doll trapped in a doll house and if she did not leave soon she would remain there forever. Nora has been a doll her whole life; Nora's father
"called [Nora] his doll child, and he played with [her] just as [she] used to play with [her] dolls" (3.608–09). When Nora married, she was "simply
transferred from Papa's hands into [Torvald]'s" (3.612–613) like the toy she was. Furthermore, the transfer of her was also a transfer of control. If Nora
"differed from [her father], [she] concealed the fact, because he would not have liked it" (3.606–07). In like manner, Nora concealed the macaroons she
ate from Torvald because it would anger him, disrupting his control and ruining the appearance of his prized

Rapunzel Alternate Ending
Mother Gothel now spend all of her days alone, broken, wishing for some company. Before, she loved going to see her own personal doll Rapunzel.
Rapunzel never had any reason to want for anything. Mother Gothel absolutely doted on her. Now, after all Gothel had done for Rapunzel, she'd left
her to die all alone. Gothel still stubbornly clung to the memory of Rapunzel and stay at the tower. All of Rapunzel's belongings were meticulously
placed around the tower as if to imagine she remained, simply out to fetch water from the stream. After finishing arranging all of her doll house tower,
Gothel turned to her meager garden. She poured all of the love and attention she had given to Rapunzel into those now beautiful tulips, now radiant
roses, and now blooming petunias. Gothel had almost grown used to the solitary company of her garden when she was... Show more content on

Would you be so kind as to put us up for the night?" Matthew inquired.
"I would be delighted! It has been such a long time since I've had anyone to keep in my tower," Mother Gothel replied. She continued on as she
walked away,"My little doll left me now I have two new dolls. And the one has such beautiful hair. So like her mother."
The fog that had shrouded that nagging feeling in Isadore's mind evaporated. The pieces fell into place. Her mother, Rapunzel, was Gothel's 'doll'. Her
mother who had been locked away in isolation simply waiting for rescue. Gothel controlled her mother all her life. The doll references came into
horrifying clarity. Gothel truly was insane.
Wait. No. Matthew trusted Gothel. And after all that Gothel had done to Rapunzel, Isadore needed to plan her revenge and her escape.
Matthew finished cheering and reassuring Mother Gothel. Then Isadore knew she could not get around staying the night at the cursed tower. Matthew
would protest. He would be confused and turn to stubbornly siding with

Charmin's Marketing Strategy
I selected Charmin for my brand and they are part of the Proctor and Gamble organization of products. Charmin is a toilet tissue product and has been
around from the late 1920's till today. Their initial channels consisted of traditional advertising like papers or store windows, word of month between
consumers and packaging with a feminine touch of a lady on the front. You have to remember the time frame and how our culture was during this time
period in how we processed products of this nature. Reasoning the ladies handled purchase of these type perceived feminine products. Someone one
day said the packaging was charming so came the name Charmin. Their message to consumers is "its so soft" and they have promoted this message

In an attempt to reach consumers and their wants with respect to toilet tissue they have around 6 different type of Charmin. They have the original
Charmin, soft, ultra soft, strong, ultra strong, and sensitive. Today they have different channels due to technology and how consumers receive
information. They Advertise on television, internet with website and pop–up advertisements, they give out coupons through mailers and the internet.
They even have a app to help consumers find clean bathrooms in the area when they are out and about in the community. Additionally, they provide
helpful tips and hints for consumers about a variety of issues surrounding the applicable topic of toilet tissue like potty training and things that revolve
around the bathroom experience. Charmin has been innovative and creative in their communication mix over time and evolved as needed to meet
applicable approaches for communication with consumers and how our culture also changed during those different time periods. They stayed true to
their core message of "its so soft" or in general its soft. They managed to get people to look at the bathroom experience in a different light as its just a
natural function and is not a big deal. They also seemed to make the most out of every time period as technology, advertising strategies, and economical
conditions changed with supply and

In Henrik Ibsen’S A “A Doll’S House”,The Name Is Pervasive
In Henrik Ibsen's A "A Doll's House",the name is pervasive throughout the entire play. The reader is given the perspective of viewing a doll's
house. Nora Helmer lives' the life of a doll, vapid and uncaring actions dictate by the whims of those around her; using her like a doll. Nearly every
character in the play acts the part of a doll, conforming to societal norms and bending to the will of those around them. It serves to show how society
in the time frame often compelled people to use one another as dolls in eachothers own personal dollhouses.
Until she changes, Nora is quite whimsical and rather childlike. Her first acts on stage involve paying delivery boy. Though he only requires 50 in
payment, she gives him a hundred.Despite an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An important aspect of her dream world is the lack of her recognizing cause and effect. Nora's lackluster approach is prominent in many places
through the story. An example of such being her disregard towards others, for example when she blames Mrs. Linden for her macaroons. Though she
is just trying to hide the misdemeanor she cares not for who she hurts along the way. Another example of her dream world is her acquiring of material
possessions. Nora constantly attempts to fulfill herself by buying things: candy, dresses, toys etc., rather than accomplishing anything of meaning . She
has never used her time to be with her husband in their near decade long marriage. She constantly dumps her children on a nurse instead of bonding
with them herself. Although this may have been common practice at the time, it serves to express her lack of care.
In this dream world, Nora rides back seat in her own life. She becomes but an object. She reacts to other's expectations instead of working for
herself. In consequence to her passive nature, Torvald is incredibly possessive of Nora, often adding the word "my" to his pet names. Once, Torvald
refers to her as "his dearest property"; Mrs. Linden states that she will save Nora "at any price", as though Nora was able to be sold and bought.
Despite her infatuation with acquiring things, Nora is but a possession herself.
Whenever Torvald enters the stage she took on a

Barbie Dolls Have Changed

  • 1. Barbie Dolls Have Changed How a childhood object has changed over time and how it is related to broader contexts. In this essay I am going to be discussing and assessing how the 'Barbie Doll' which is a toy for children, mainly for girls has changed over the years since the 1900's to the present generation and how this relates to other larger contexts like class, gender, race, disability and faith. Below I have inserted 2 pictures of the Barbie doll, One from 1959 and one from 2010, which is fairly recent. 1950's: The first Barbie Doll 2010 Barbie Doll(s) I strongly believe that the Barbie Dolls have changed hugely since the 1900's. This is because throughout my research I found that Barbie dolls have changed a lot since the 57 years gone by until present times. Initially, Barbie had curly bangs as a hair design ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that Barbie has changed massively over the years in skin colour, hair colour and sizes. Piaget has created the theory of learning through play. He says children engage themselves In imaginative play which means that if they see a story or characters they are most likely to imitate them and what they do. When children imitate others they develop a vocabulary which allows them to name the world around them. This relates to dolls because if a child is given a doll which moves and does things around a doll house like cleaning, a child will imitate that around the house and act like a house wife like the doll. This shows that dolls are created in that way to leave a image in the child's head on what a girl does when she grows up, likewise how the dolls have changed, whilst children grow older they have certain changes in them ... • 2. Object Permanence The third time I visited Vera, I started testing her understanding of object permanence. I did the same test as last time, with putting her teddy under the blanket. Right when I put the bear under the blanket, Vera reached under and retrieved the teddy. Since she was able to do that, I tried the A not B error. When I put the teddy under the first blanket, she got it. Then when I put it under the second blanket, she looked under the first blanket. This confirmed Piagets theory of the A not B error (Crosby, 108). I also noticed that Vera enjoys solitary play. If I am in the room with her and sitting on the couch, she will gladly play with her toys alone. This is not an issue at her age. If she continued this past age five or six, then it could be a red flag of something such as anxiety according to Burgess, Rubin, Cheah, and Nelson (Crosby, 489). She also responded to simple requests. For example if you asked for a high five, she would do it. When I started singing "When You're Happy and You know it," she could clap. The next thing I did was giving Vera her bottle, and to my surprise, she now holds the bottle with one hand. In addition, I noticed that she was eating most all–normal foods now. She had a peanut butter sandwich cut up in very small pieces. The last thing I did was ask... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also harder to measure her social development of Vera because she is not yet talking and does not have friends to measure the social ability. She smiles and babbles at people but that is mostly it. In addition, it is more difficult to measure her mental development because she cannot talk yet and understand her mental state. The only way we can understand her emotions is through her face and body language. Lastly, there is limited information about things such as key life events because she is so ... • 3. From Little Girl to Sex Goddess: the Negative Influence of... Young people of today look to society for influences in how they should look and act. Children are influenced daily by television, Internet and video games, friends, and even the toys they play with. Boys grow up wanting to be like the superheroes and G.I. Joe figures they play with; girls look to their Barbies and dolls to see how society mandates teens and young adults to be. Bratz dolls are also among those Barbie–type toys that girls are looking up to these days. Bratz dolls are similar to Barbie in form; however, Bratz are more fashionable and "hip" than the traditional blonde–haired, blue–eyed Barbie. In fact, the more fashionable and "hip" the dolls become, the more negative the image becomes that they exude. The outrageous clothing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The "Neon Pop Diva" collection features all the dolls in patent leather outfits (www.bratz.com). Furthermore, the "SpringTime" Collection features two of the dolls in one–piece bunny catsuit pants with bunny ears; this is particularly similar to the image of a Playboy bunny (www.bratz.com). One critic describes one of the newer doll?s outfits, saying, "A Bratz Princess –– one of the newer versions –– wears a tiara and, instead of a ball gown, a tight camouflage T–shirt and a short skirt" (Talbot). This image of short and skimpy is not the message today?s young girls should be influenced by. Because of the sexual nature of the accessories – especially the clothing – the influence from these dolls to young girls is negative, and the dolls should be recalled immediately. Lastly, the advertising for the Bratz dolls displays a negative image that should not be portrayed to children of the toy?s target audience. One critic states that the company marketing Bratz dolls is holding on to the "six–to–twelve–year–old market"(Talbot). Children this age are subjected to marketing plugs like the games on the official Bratz web sites entitled "Love Meter," or links to "What?s Hot" (www.bratz.com). Children in this target age range should not be interested in things of that nature, or should not be taught to be interested in things of that nature. Even the bios of the different Bratz dolls advertise an attitude of sexuality. One doll, named ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Youngest Doll Mason Lewis Dr. Taylor English 110 7, March 2014 The Youngest Doll Throughout the year we have read many stories where reality and fantasy come into question. Once again we have this same problem with "The Youngest Doll". What makes us question reality or fantasy in the story is the vivid description the author gives of thedolls that the aunt makes for the girls. With the description of the "wax mask of the child's face" or the "porcelain of the hands and face", it gives off the allusion that what may seem as a reality may in fact be a fantasy and it is that allusion that gives off the feeling of uncanniness. This is not the only theme that is displayed throughout the story, the others being "eyes", as well as women being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then the doll lifted up her eyelids, and out of the empty sockets of her eyes came the frenzied antennae of all those prawns."(page 249). This shows that once the dolls eyes were removed then the women that it was made for is now becoming the object and replacing the doll. When you consider something being an object you don't consider it to be a human. When it comes to the husband the doll has no sentimental value to him, but when the doll goes missing you see in the story that he spends some time looking for the doll, "That night the doctor dug up all the ground around the house, but could not find the doll." Many people could argue that the doll was so human like that the husband ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. "The Doll's House" by Katherine Mansfield Essay Katherine Mansfield's "The Dolls House" seems to be a simple story about children receiving a own ideas and opinions. Even though everyone is entitled to their own opinion it is often bizarre to see how our opinions are based on those of others. This essay will outline the events that occurred in the story which are a big part in regards to the two different worlds of adults and children, and how they are separated from each other. The Dolls House is a story where you can see the cruelty of children towards each other. This story is centered on the concept of three middle class girls who are given a beautiful doll's house as a present. Instead these two poor girls are from a mother, who is a washerwoman, and they do not know who and where their father is but rumor is that the father is in jail. So ideally the mothers of the children of middle minds with adult matters, children start thinking like adults. Another situation in the story that splits adulthood and childhood into two separate worlds is when the Burnell children want to show their friends the new doll house, but they are told by their mother that they can set up the doll house in the courtyard but not allow their friends to come inside for tea or wander throughout the house. Usually children are open hearted and when they have a friend over they want to show them around their house, offer them a snack make them feel at home. But in this story the mother of the Burnell children wants the children to stay outside and not expect to be fed or be allowed in the house. The reason that the mother doesn't want children to come inside is because they may mess up the house or break something, and if she gives one child tea, she has to give others as well which may turn out a bit expensive. This particular short story is a satire about the two different worlds between adults and children. It may be narrated by someone who perhaps may have been an adult who was lost in a child's world, like an adult who still has a heart and soul of a child ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Why Litigation, Adr, Or Criminal Prosecution? Essay INTRODUCTION In this essay, I will be writing to show whether I believe litigation, ADR, or criminal prosecution is the appropriate response the three scenarios presented. The three examples given were a secretary who has been taking money from the company she works for, with the intent of paying it back but never did; a little girl who was rendered brain damaged as a result of swallowing the toy finger of the toy doll that her father purchased for her; and a company that loss money as a result of not being able to ship product due to receiving an incorrect shipment from one of their suppliers. THE SCRETARY AND THE CHECK ABUNDANCE Adele is employed as a secretary and one of the responsibilities that she entrusted with is purchasing office supplies. In order for to complete this task, she writes checks to pay for the office supplies. Over the course of her employment, she finds herself in a situation where she does not have enough money for the week, to buy food for her and her daughter. At this point, she is either far too comfortable with the company or extremely desperate, so she writes a check to herself on behalf of the company. Though her intentions are to immediately replace the monies that she has wrongfully taken, before she does, she finds herself in this situation again and takes more money from the company. Eventually her desperate situation becomes commonplace and her actions as a result catch up to her when the account manager come across the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

M A N D R A G O R A David McRobbie's Mandragora (Mammoth Australia) is another contemporary novel with links to a historic shipwreck, the sinking of the Dunarling. Adam and Catriona have found a cache of four small dolls made from mandrake roots. The dolls were left in the cave by two other teenagers, Jamie and Margaret, who had survived the wreck of the Dunarling. Transcribing a diary from that same voyage, Adam and Catriona learn the power of the cursed mandrake roots, power that destroyed the Dunarling in 1886 and that is resurfacing in the town of Dunarling today. Throughout the years, many superstitious beleifs grew up about the mandragora plant. Some people thought it was certain death to pull a mandrake root from the ground so a rope was teid to a dog and the unfortunate animal, on being chased, pulled out the root and died. Mandrakes were also supposed to utter a shriek when they were uprooted from the earth. • 9. Analysis Of Henrik Ibsen 's A Doll House The production of any theatrical performance is an assembly of creativity, interpretation, and collaboration. Typically, the task of imagining and guiding the integration of all these elements belongs to the director. One of the toughest tasks of a director is to reinvigorate a socially important and renowned production while maintaining its original message and composition. Henrik Ibsen's A Doll House is a socially important realistic play that portrays the gender dynamics that plagued the nineteenth century and questions the expectations held for women in a household and society. The play is still incredibly influential because the issues it addresses are still prevalent decades later. The original play is so accredited and well known that directors face a tough challenge of trying to reconstruct it in a memorable way. One director, Lee Breuer, attempted to do so in his Mabou Mines DollHouse production. In agreement with Elinor Fuchs' review, through creative directorial decisions on setting, casting, and music, Breuer uniquely reignited the fire in Ibsen's play without drifting from the original message. Before discussing the specific stylistic decisions Breuer took to reconstruct and modernize Ibsen's play, it is important to obtain a clear definition of reconstruction in theater, which is different from other forms of reconstruction. Generally, reconstruction is the rebuilding of something that has been broken. However, it would not be fair to say that Ibsen's A Doll ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Mattel 's Iconic And Best Selling Brand Mattel's iconic and best–selling brand is The Barbie. Introduced in 1959 as "The Teenage Fashion Model," Barbie allowed girls to experience fashion and to explore various dreams, fantasies and aspirations without ever leaving home. Because of the introduction of the television in the 1950 's, companies discovered a new consumer audience among children and teenagers. The post–war era saw a strong economy advancing the middle class suburban families. Now, buying toys became a year round business versus holiday or luxury items. Barbie's image has since transitioned from the archaic glamourous 50's house wife to an image that has become a part of the American fabric, by reflecting the women of each generation. The Barbie brand is known for its lucrative collaborations, having created collector's items for iconic brands such as Chanel, Oscar De La Renta, Coca Cola, and most famously the Disney Princess line. This franchise has recently gone through a drastic product rebirth over the past 10 years; modifying the traditional and controversial measurements, in order to make Barbie appear more realistic and naturally proportionate and physically diverse. According to an article in The Atlantic ", [Barbie] will now come in a variety of shapes and shades. (And also: a variety of hairstyles, and eye colors, and "face sculpts.") The young boy went over and grabbed a doll to play with and almost instantly the girl told him that those where girl toys and he couldn't play with them. I sat there for a second thinking the same as my cousin, "He doesn't understand that those aren't boy toys." But, then I started wondering what made it unacceptable for him to play with a doll? Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other than leading to a violent lash out, men acting this way may face other issues. If they feel unfree to show emotion, compassion, or vulnerability (all generally associated with femininity) this could really impact their own human nature. All of these traits, although seeming feminine are necessary things to make up a good person. According to Jackson Katz in his documentary Tough Guise 2: Violence,Manhood & American Culture, "Qualities like compassion, caring, empathy, intellectual curiosity, fear, vulnerability, evenlove– basic human qualities that boys have inside them every bit as much as girls do – get methodically driven out of them by asexist and homophobic culturethat labels these things unmanly, feminine, womanly, and gay, and teaches boys to avoid them at all costs." If these characteristics are things that men have, and make them a better person, why is it so merely reinforced by society that men shouldn't have the qualities? If a guy is blocking these out because they're not manly, there could be some serious repercussions. These characteristics that are generally associated with women are made fun of in men and they often feel their masculinity is becoming threatened. Due to this men may suppress certain emotional issues, especially around other men. An example of this is shown in the book Passing: When People Can't Be Who They Are by Brooke Kroeger. In chapter one, Not Some Social Agenda Struggle, Kroeger tells the story of David Matthews, a young man who is caught between two races as he struggles to find his identity. David was raised in a single parent household with his father raising him. He brings up how he and his dad rarely talked about his mother or anything emotional saying, "We were just tough guys and it just didn't seem like the kind of touchy–feely stuff I needed to know". Here David shows that he and his dad both feel they are too tough to talk about touchy issues that he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Executive Summary: Cazar Slime Making Box https://www.toysrus.com/product?productId=127700826 The toy that I picked is the Nickelodeon Deluxe Slime making kit. The toy is a do–it–yourself slime making kit that makes customizable slime. The kit comes with glue, slime activator, scented and non–scented colorant, glitter, beads, measuring cups, mixing sticks, and "easy to follow instructions". Nickelodeons signature marketing tool is slime, so the appeal of toy is very high in kids. Another reason why I picked it is because there is a high trend in slime making in kids today. I personally saw many kids that I use to babysit make slime, sell it, and even have their own slime Instagram accounts. Also, I technically don't know if I am buying this toy for a boy or girl so it's a very gender–neutral toy that I think all kids will enjoy. As a kid, I use to play with Polly Pockets which are tiny dolls that have jelly clothes so it's easy to change outfits. I also use to play with my Razor scooter a lot because it was my main source of transportation as a child. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first scene is actually a black girl playing with the slime. Also, they had a boy playing with pink slime and a girl playing with green slime. This toy was definitely created and marketed with a modern mindset. The creators broke gender socialization and made an inclusive toy for all kids. As I was searching for a toy online, it was very blatant that there are girl toys and there are boy toys. If you click on 'categories' there are: top rated, boy's toys, girl's toys, age, brand, and character.
  • 20. My Mother Was Never A Strict Woman My mother was never a strict woman. She kept rules to a minimum of one. It was short, simple, and easy to follow: don't go into the woods at Grammie's house. I would ask why, and she would tell me that sometimes people who went in didn't come out. She said this the way a mother would explain where all the birds went during winter, or why the green left the trees in fall. It wasn't an ominous warning, it was just a fact. Sometimes people who go into Grammie's woods don't come back out. When I asked why, she always found a way to change the subject. Sometimes I think the universe helped her, by ringing the phone in the nick of time or sending someone to our door to draw her attention for a few hours. She didn't need too many diversions – I only asked about once or twice. By the time I left Grammie's house for the first time, I knew why. "Jesus," Felicity grumbles, pushing the toe of her Vans into a soft spot in the wood of our bedroom. It groans deeply under the pressure, and sighs when she releases it. "This place should be condemned or something." I grin. "Creaks don't condemn a house." "What about that?" She points at a dark patch in the ceiling. "It looks like someone died in the attic and literally bled through the floor." "Ooo, maybe we'll see a ghost," I say, shrugging my jacket off in trade for a thick sweater from my suitcase. Comparing Edna of Kate Chopin's The Awakening and Nora of Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House Kate Chopin's work, The Awakening, and Henrik Ibsen's play, A Doll's House, were written at a time when men dominated women in every aspect of life. Edna Pontellier, the protagonist in The Awakening, and Nora, the protagonist in ADoll's House, are trapped in a world dominated by men. The assumed superiority of their husbands traps them in their households. Edna and Nora share many similarities, yet differ from each other in many ways. Two main similarities of Edna and Nora are that they both have an awakening and are like caged birds without freedom; one main difference is that Edna lives in reality and Nora lives in a fantasy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the saying is translated into English it means, Get out! Get out! Damn in!; the caged bird sends the message that Edna needs to get out of her marriage to make everything right in her life. Like Edna, Nora is reflected as a trapped bird. Nora, in "A Doll's House," is constantly referred to as a bird by her husband, Helmer. As in the quote, "And I couldn't wish you anything but just what you are, my sweet little lark" (Ibsen 972). Helmer show his ownership of Nora and how she is his little bird. Unlike the image of a caged parrot, Nora is a bird trapped by the dominance of her husband. A second similarity is that Edna and Nora each had an awakening about her own marriage. Edna's awakening took place early in the novel, while Nora's awakening occurred at the end of the play. The realization that she was not happy taking care of her husband, house or children began Edna's awakening. Represented by the quote, "An indescribable oppression, which seemed to generate in some unfamiliar part of her consciousness, filled her whole being with a vague anguish" (Chopin 14). Edna feels the entrapment of her marriage that has been present subconsciously, and it fills her mind and soul with pain and hurt. At the end of "A Doll's House," Nora announces to her husband the need to leave the marriage due to the oppression caused by his power over her. • 25. Toys Are Today 's Society Essay Toys Are Us In today's society, parents throughout the United States differ on their views towards children's toys. Some children face different options and consequences when wanting a toy from the opposite gender section. Occasionally, you will see in the headlines of a newspaper saying how progressive a mother is because she allows her son to wear a princess costume. Mainly, the toys that are aimed towards boys are associated with sports and aggression. Yet for girls, the toys that are aimed towards them are associated with homemaking and glamor. These qualities are so recognized and known that I have decided to do an essay on them to see what is alike and what is different in the areas of the toys. I decided to follow two families for this analysis. These two families both come from a Mexican culture. In household X, the family is both Mexican and American. In household Y, the family comes from a strict Mexican culture. In response to my analysis, based on what I have seen in both of the households I visited, I feel as though the children should choose what matters to them in relevance to the fun. Allowing the children to have a variety of toys opens up different skills. Different toys bring different challenges. Parents should not restrict their children to strong gender toys, as though it could not help them develop physically, academically, artistically, cognitively, and musically. • 26. The Voodoo Of Voodoo Dolls It is easy to look back at history and see a clear pattern and relation between different cultures, objects, rituals, etc. When you take a deeper look into origins, you'll often be surprised by what you find. Minkondi (plural for nkondi), are sculptures made and used in the 19th century by African cultures. They served a very specific purpose and had a very sacred importance. The Nkisi Nkondi functioned as a hunter–healer of conflicts. The people would take their worries, requests and fears to the figure to call on the spirits. Voodoodolls on the other hand, are often misunderstood and misrepresented. The Voodoodoll is a ritualized way of calling on spirits to target a specific person. The doll can be used a number of things including luck, power, love and most commonly recognized, for evil and harm. The Nkisi Nkondi sculptures and Voodoo dolls, even though they are from different cultures and time periods, have a number of similarities and one may have influenced the creation of the other. "Nkisi" refers to the spiritual being of the figure, and "nkondi" comes from the word konda, which means to hunt, refers to the figure itself. Minkondi, representative of hunters, can catch those who undermine the frame of society. The Nkisi Nkondi is typically shaped in a human form. There are few Nkisi Nkondi that are shaped like dogs, which were seen as sacred animals. The Nkisi Nkondi weren't literal representations of the spirits that they called on. Social Oppression Of Society In 'The Doll's House' In a short story by Katherine Mansfield called "The Doll's House," there is a social barrier between a family with less that is struggling to make ends meet and a flourishing family, that appears to not have any difficulties getting through life. The Kelvey family, whose hard–working mother makes the best of life that she can by crafting clothing from materials she can salvage from the wealthy clients' houses she cleans. The Burnell family, who is getting through life with ease because of their position in the wealthy class, is the complete opposite in lifestyles. The short story "The Doll's House" suggests society is unfair to the people with less and that possessions play a part in the deciding factor whether people will be your friend, but it only takes one person to break from the social expectations. Society is unfair to people with less. Having less in life can range from a wide spectrum of things from age, which Isabel is the oldest out of the three Burnell daughters, all the way to materialistic valuables like the Burnell's doll's house. The narrator states, "Isabel was bossy, but she was always right, and Lottie and Kezia knew too well the powers that went with being eldest." This was unfair to Isabel Burnell's two younger siblings because of the remarks that Isabel would say to the younger siblings, such as "'I'm to tell,' said Isabel, 'because I'm the eldest'" about breaking the news to their fellow classmates in school about the dollhouse. For example, if a child has a bad fight with a friend at school, they might come home and "stress eat" to make the situation temporarily feel better. This could contribute to child obesity causing poor physical development. • 40. When it comes to the husband the doll has no sentimental value to him, but when the doll goes missing you see in the story that he spends some time looking for the doll, "That night the doctor dug up all the ground around the house, but could not find the doll." Essay On Empathy In To Kill A Mockingbird Throughout the course of To Kill a Mockingbird, the siblings Jem and Scout torment a man named Boo Radley because they think that he is a malevolent ghost. Boo still loves them like a father would and keeps them under a watchful eye even though they treat him like a caged animal. Jem and Scout do not realize this and continue to torment him. The relationship between Boo and Jem changes in the middle of the book, when Boo gives them gifts, Jem realizes what he has done and learns that Boo is a person and learns empathy through Boo's actions. It takes Scout a little longer to learn to have understanding for Boo and she learns it when Boo protects her from an attacker. Scout and Jem learn empathy from harassing, taunting, and tormenting... But it all "[had] slipped through Jem's memory (81)" as he went to go get the dolls. They also decide to write a letter to whoever was sending them those gifts. They still denied that it was Boo though, but deep down, they knew that it was Boo who had given the gifts to them. When the knot–hole they had been receiving the gifts from was filled up, Jem started to cry without Scout knowing why, showing that he is starting to realize Boo is a person but Scout still thinks that Boo is an evil man. The only explanation i could conceive is deep institutionalized racism, but it wasn't something i learned directly. It just developed over years covertly laced within skipped chapter of my history textbooks, the media's seemingly endless reports of "thugs", and the complete underrepresentation in my limited circle of entertainment of school, Disney movies, and books. Even with my mother's constant, effortless strategies of expanding my collection of Barbie's from the lightest shades of cafe au lait with shiny, bone straight hair that glided through my plastic combs with ease to the crispest, darkest shades of the night sky who hair was so thick and curly that no comb nor brush ever survived a single run through. In Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House, Nora's departure becomes the controversial topic of debate for many readers; was Nora Helmer justified in leaving her husband and kids or not? It is argued that both parents are needed for a child to succeed in life and that separation is an act of cowardness. However, several readers also debate that Nora was justified in leaving Torvald and her kids. The mistreatment Nora constantly faced through offensive nicknames, her child–like mentality that made her unfit to take care of her children and her identity as a doll demonstrate her need to leave the Helmer household. Nora's maltreatment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, this behaviour becomes evident when Nora offers to help Mrs. Linde and she responds, "it is doubly kind in you, for you know so little of the burdens and troubles of life" (1.359–60) proceeded by "you are a child, Nora" (1.363). Consequently, Nora responds in an immature manner by tossing her head and crossing the stage (1.702–03). Evidence of her childish behaviour and naГЇve mentality reveals the underlying need for her to grow and to do so she must find herself. In summary, the family nurse and Nora's immaturity and naivety justify her decision to leave Torvald and her kids to find herself to gain the independence needed to become the mother that her children needed. Nora was a doll trapped in a doll house and if she did not leave soon she would remain there forever. Nora has been a doll her whole life; Nora's father "called [Nora] his doll child, and he played with [her] just as [she] used to play with [her] dolls" (3.608–09). When Nora married, she was "simply transferred from Papa's hands into [Torvald]'s" (3.612–613) like the toy she was. Furthermore, the transfer of her was also a transfer of control. If Nora "differed from [her father], [she] concealed the fact, because he would not have liked it" (3.606–07). Nearly every character in the play acts the part of a doll, conforming to societal norms and bending to the will of those around them. It serves to show how society in the time frame often compelled people to use one another as dolls in eachothers own personal dollhouses. Though she is just trying to hide the misdemeanor she cares not for who she hurts along the way. Another example of her dream world is her acquiring of material possessions.
