My Vacation In My Life
It was the summer of 2069, my and my friend wanted to go on vacation so we decided to go on
vacation to Cancun, Mexico, we had been planing this the whole year, but first we had to reserve the
hotel and get the airplane tickets so we went to buy the airplane tickets. When we were in the airport
buying the tickets I saw a sign that illustrated a plane and said Life is a Journey, Travel it well. The
day finally came June 20, 2069 it was a very special day because it was my birthday so we had a little
celebration before we had to leave, I turned 24 I had a good time that day but we had to leave that
same day, it was 9:00 pm when we arrived to the airport and took of to Cancun, the timed estimated
was 12hr, but suddenly at 5:45 when everyone was sleeping there was turbulence in the airplane, it
had was running out of fuel, everyone was screaming and scared we had to do an emergency landing
but were there was only water no land 20 minutes passed when the fuel had finally run out, all i can
remember was that we were going down very fast i thought I was living my final moments but I
passed out.
The next day i woke up in the middle of nowhere, it was quiet as a mouse all i saw was water
everywhere luckily before we airplane hit the water I was able to put on a life jacket and i was floating
in the water so I began to swim i did it for about 30 minutes I got tired, but hope wasn t lost i saw a
island that looked peaceful and beautiful it almost looked like paradise, I could almost

The Importance Of Conscription On Australia
During World War I, there were many wartime controls placed on Australia. The wartime controls I
will focus on in this essay are Conscription, the use of government propaganda, and Censorship. They
all had played an important part in Australia s army system and involvement in the war.
What is conscription? Conscription is where it is compulsory to enlist for state service, mainly
military service. This wartime control was enforced on every country who participated in World War I
except Australia, South Africa and India. Australia tried to pass a conscription law twice during World
War I, the first in 1916 and the second in 1917. Due to not having a conscription law, Australia would
face problems during the first world war. At the start of the war, many people had enlisted, so many
that some were forced to be turned away. However after everyone realised the horrors of the war,
enlistment would slowly decrease as the war went on.
Even though conscription wasn t a law, other ways and methods made men join the army. One method
was women shaming their male relatives who didn t join the army . This method was supported the
government and would make the men feel ashamed of themselves. Therefore, some of the men would
join the army despite not wanting to. Another way that made men join the army was the view of war
the men had. When the war had just started, men believed that the war would give them adventure and
excitement. This is why there was such high volumes of enlistment

Essay on Sociology of Health and Medicine
Mike Bury (2001) has undertaken a considerable amount of research on illness narratives and its
different forms. Illness narratives and narrative analysis can be evaluated through three different types.
The first is contingent narratives, which address beliefs about the origins of disease, the proximate
causes of an illness episode, and the immediate effects of illness in everyday life (Bury 2011, p. 263).
Secondly, another form of narratives are moral narratives, which provide accounts of (and help to
constitute) changes between the person, the illness and social identity, and which help to (re) establish
the moral status of the individual or help to maintain social distance (Bury 2011, p. 263). Lastly, Bury

Although there is an abundance of previous research conducted on the effects of marijuana use on
work/school (Earleywine 2002, Neinstein 2002, Roffman, R, Stephens, R Marlatt G 2006), the
participants involved continue to have both positive and negative accounts for marijuana use on work
and school. The various detrimental effects range from the effects that marijuana has such as the
changes of capabilities that are required for activities such as work and/or study. These include
motivation, memory and cognition and also capabilities of vehicle operation for work including visual
perception and divided attention. The use of marijuana has been found to have a range of harmful
effects on the health state of an individual, which can affect work ability (Smith et al. 2013). Involved
in this are the potential for a progression to harder drugs, mental illness, worsened immune function,
lung cancer and brain tissue damage (Earleywine 2002). However, some researchers do not believe
that all the side effects of marijuana use have negative consequences. For example (Aronson 2009)
believes that it has a significant positive contribution in medical value with the treatment of conditions
that may be detrimental to work ability. These include issues such as pain, nausea, appetite loss and
neurological disorders.

Inchoate Crimes: A closer look at criminal attempt
The criminal justice system is continually looking for ways to take preventative measures to halt crime
before it happens however when faced with defining attempted crimes the courts have found it
difficult to determine when an action should be punished the same or lesser than a completed crime.
However, there are three types of inchoate crimes that can be punishable by law as these crimes are
the beginning steps of the crime. The three types of offenses include solicitation defined as persuading
or encouraging one to commit a crime, conspiracy which is the agreement to commit crime and
possibly act on agreement and attempt is the unsuccessful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, attempt has two different subcategories of attempt that are punishable by law. Complete
attempt also known as imperfect attempt is when the individual covers all steps to commit crime but
fails to follow through, an example of a complete attempt is if a shooter misses his target in a drive by
attempt. An incomplete attempt is if the individual is forced to abandon the attempted crime due to
reasons beyond one s control, an example of an incomplete attempt is if the shooter had to abandon
location because of known whereabouts by the police. Although, there is a third type of attempt
known as the impossible attempt in which the attempt could have been completed had the scenario
played out correctly such as if the shooter shot at the targets location and target is not present however
this attempt is not a defense in an attempt to commit a crime.
Impossible attempts otherwise known as factual impossibility cannot be used as a defense for criminal
attempt and is not recognized by the Moral Penal Code. Another type of impossibility is inherent
possibility in which the act could never be achieved. However, factual impossibility and inherent
impossibility should not be confused with legal impossibility. The term legal impossibility refers to
when an individual commits an act that they believe is illegal however the act is not although type of
impossibility can be used as a

Mark Antony s Use Of Persuasion In Julius Caesar
Persuasion is often more effectual than force (Aesop). Nearly 600 years before the assassination of
Julius Caesar, the famous Greek fabulist Aesop knew the power of persuading others. From then until
now, persuasion is a huge part of everyday life. Examples of persuasion include advertisements incall
forms of media: books, billboards, and especially speeches. One of the most celebrated speeches in
literary history is the one given by Mark Antony at the funeral of Julius Caesar in William
Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. The techniques that Antony uses are the predominant
reasons why his monologue resonated with his audience and why he was able to turn the citizens
against the murderers and Brutus. Antony s speech is an effective ... Show more content on

Repetition is a powerful form of persuasion that reinforces the speaker s message by repeating words,
sentences, and information. This can influence the reader s attitude toward a particular character or
event. During Mark Antony s speech, he continuously exclaims, But Brutus says he [Caesar] was
ambitious, And Brutus is an honorable man... Yet Brutus says he [Caesar] was ambitious,
And Brutus is an honorable man.
(III.ii.14,15,21,22)
Antony constantly reminds the crowd that Brutus was an honorable man while proving to the people
of Rome that Brutus was actually wrong about Caesar s ambition. This shows how Antony s repetition
as a form of sarcasm was so effective. He clearly states that Brutus is an honorable man, but when he
states this, he is simply mocking him and proving to the crowd that he, in fact, is not an honorable
man. Not only was Brutus wrong about Caesar in general, he was also wrong about killing Caesar.
Antony s speech states,
Did this in Caesar seem ambitious?
When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept;
Ambition should be made of sterner stuff.
Yet Brutus says he was ambitious;...
I thrice presented him a kingly

Once stranded on an island, a group of boys become...
Once stranded on an island, a group of boys become separated. Two of them are together, others are
dispersed. The two boys who are together need a way to pull the others onto the beach to have a
meeting. They look over the lagoon, and they see the perfect thing to do this with: a beautiful, colorful
conch shell.
The two boys worked together to retrieve the shell. In color the shell was deep cream, touched here
and there with fading pink. Between the point, worn away into a little hole, and the pink lips of the
mouth, lay eighteen inches of shell with a slight spiral twist and covered with a delicate, embossed
pattern. Ralph shook sand out of the deep tube. (Golding page 16) The fair colored boy, Ralph, blew

Ralph would be holding the conch, Jack would take it, and Piggy would try to talk whichever had the
conch out of making rash decisions. Eventually, the island becomes divided between Ralph s friends
and followers, and Jack s friends and followers. Ralph, as the elected chief, along with Piggy, keeps
the conch. The island s diplomatic issues get worse and worse, and both sides want the conch. Ralph
still values the conch as the source of power and order, even after order is lost, and so does Jack. Jack
is a savage at this point in the story, and doesn t care about order, until he sees Ralph s power through
this diplomacy and order. The hunters, led by Jack, eventually destroy the conch as a whole thing and
smash it to pieces, and the order upheld by the conch is officially lost. The two tribes of boys are now
basically two completely different groups. They are not on good terms, and all friendships have been
shattered, just like the conch. The conch often symbolized things; order and authority. The order that
was once upheld by the conch was very important to the story, however. When the island first
separated, they thought they had lost power. Ralph said, If I blow the conch and they don t come back;
then we ve had it. We shan t keep the fire going. We ll be like animals. We ll never be rescued.
(Golding page 92) These boys did value the conch, and it almost became like their god or idol. They

American Plantation Social Classes
Social classes have existed throughout all of history. The categorizing of slaves on American
Plantations is often overlooked, but there were in fact many levels of slave classes. The use of a class
system helped plantation owners to punish and reward their slaves as well as to keep their business
organized. The lowest class of slaves was those who did field labor. They had the poorest food,
housing, and clothes. These bad conditions motivated them to work harder to earn better positions.
The second class of slaves was the boatmen and the cooks. They had slightly better food, clothing, and
housing than the field labors. Their fear being debunked back to the field labor prevented them from
disobeying. The next class of slaves was the skilled

Theme Of Madame Bovary
In Madame Bovary, Flaubert manipulates the settings in order to illustrate the progression of Emma s
deteriorating state of mind. Each location within Emma s world holds a distinct reality and expectation
she must live according to, due to the strong influence it has on her state of mind. Within each city
Emma undergoes specific types of emotions and attachments that essentially become the drive to her
great depression. Tostes, Yonville, Rouen, and Paris bind together for a single purpose in order to
display the overall theme of dissatisfaction and repression, which ultimately become the reason for
Emma s ironic death.

THe ball serves as a reflection upon her perfectionism and idealism, cultivated in a separate, outside
world she s left only to imagine. It mirrors her extreme naivete when she observes each and every
detail of the ball such as, the clear complexion that is heightened by the pallor of porcelain, the
shimmer of satin, and the veneer of old furniture (35). Emma s distinctive vivid imagination results in
an interference within reality when Charles discovers the cigar case with a green silk border (37) on
their way home from the ball at La Vaubyessard. For Emma, the case comes to symbolize all the
allure, sentimental relationship of the ball itself, and the universe of highborn simplicity and
extravagance it represents. Despite the fact that, she sees the physical, subtle elements of the ideal
setting of the ball, she doesn t consider the entanglements of what this sort of way of life may bring
desire, triviality, or depression. The unfulfilled desires experienced from the sumptuous ball result in
Emma s frustration increasing as she comes to notice that her longing for an upscale lifestyle soon
become diminished by the deterioration of her state of

Identity In Walt Whitman s From Song Of Myself
Author Walt Whitman wrote a poem called From Song Of Myself , where he discusses all the things in
life that surround him, and how his identity is reflected. His poem is mainly focused on him and his
enjoyment in life. I celebrate myself, and sing myself... (488). This quote starts his poem in a joyful
mood, where the reader is ready to embark on his reasoning of why he celebrates himself. However,
there is a pattern where the tone goes from light and cheerful to being dull and dark. In one stanza he
proclaims Houses and rooms are full of perfumes...I breathe the fragrance myself and know i like it
(488), then the next stanza he states The atmosphere is not a perfume, it has no taste of distillation..
(488). There is an obvious change in

Plato Capital Punishment
Early eightieth century BC records of legalised death penalty laws have been uncovered in the Code
of King Hammaurabi of Babylon, which codified the death penalty for 25 different crimes. Famous
philosophers Plato and Bentham have given their ethical viewpoints; from there assumptions can be
drawn on their views on capital punishment. The Catholic Church also has its Anti death penalty
position. Capital punishment has been a part of human communal society for centuries. Within these
three ethical viewpoints society can use them as scopes as to whether it should be acceptable in their
community. Contextual analysis is paramount to being able to apply these ethical thought methods to a
contemporary issue. Many that live deserve death. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their differences strike in their thought process and in what the rehabilitation would entail. In terms of
context Bentham is straight up against capital punishment that causes suffering and strongly opposes
it. He also spent more time on it then any of his rival or competing philosophers of his time. He
comments in his commentary According to Bentham, a punishment, like any other legal practice, must
be morally justified in terms of its conduciveness to the appropriate end. Bentham wanted laws that
augmented total happiness of the community as his theory on punishment is that they need to justified
and rationale and that in it will generate happiness. Plato however had a structure in place, firstly an
orator (similar to a lawyer) would request that person stand trial in front of a court, rather than that
person going to be put to death they instead would be given a timoria or a trial of retribution similar to
getting rehabilitated or being put on parole. While some major offences of his time were still worth
capital punishment Plato stressed that if it is possible and there is a chance for rehabilitation then that
person deserves it. Comparing both philosophers both can be classed as anti capital punishment as
while Plato does condone the use of capital punishment it is only for serious crimes, Laws prescribes

Taking a Look at Government Surveillance
Government Surveillance
Government Surveillance, a way that the government says that will keep you safe from foreign
dangers like terrorist attacks, espionage, and perhaps a international war. However you have to
sacrifice your private life, and business for increased protection and surveillance.
Government surveillance, defined by dictionary.com as a noun that states
Close observation or supervision maintained over a person, group, etc, especially one in custody or
under suspicion (Merriam webster.com) the word was also taken from the French word surveiller that
means to watch over and was adopted and changed as the English word surveillance.
Government surveillance has been with us ever since the start of groups, dynasties, government and
more. Back then, in the medieval ages like in the sixteenth century. Surveillance was hardly
surveillance at all. Regular people paid by the enemy, or nation diplomats, or just amateur people
looking for easy money, all mostly did it. As the timeline grows closer to the present. There are factors
that have made up the system that now controversially exists in America as Government Surveillance.

that it protects every and any citizen of America the right to not be searched in house or work in

Sense Of Sesponsibility And Sense And Sensibility
The most relatable novel to Austen s Pride and Prejudice is her earlier novel Sense and Sensibility
written in 1811. The largest comparisons that can be made are the function of screens that shelter, the
distinction of being sensible and having sensibility, as well as the necessity of wealth to determine
character.
According to Sally Palmer, Austen is using fire screens as a symbol for characters who are trying to
shield potentially heated emotional outburst or the intense heat of social discourse that would ruin
evanescent happiness. The two characters that symbolize this would be Mr. Darcy and Elinor
Dashwood of Sense and Sensibility. Darcy wants to protect all he cares about including Mr. Bingley,
his innocent sister Georgiana, and later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author Inger Sigrun Brodey, a reputable JASNA s North American Scholar who is a frequent
speaker at Jane Austen Society meetings, writes in the article Making sense of sensibility. from
Persuasions: The Jane Austen Journal that Marianne Dashwood symbolizes sensibility and her sister
Elinor represents common sense. Marianne shares many similarities with Lydia Bennet, the youngest
daughter in Pride and Prejudice. Both believe their world is naturally good without corruption such as
greed and lust to mar it. Both have foibles that strangers generally are naturally good. However, in
actuality there are very good actors that manipulate the vulnerable. Humans have a way of being
imminently selfish and Austen is depicting it with the characters such as the dastardly Mr. Wickham of
Pride and Prejudice and thoughtless Mr. Willoughby of Sense and Sensibility. Both men affect their
counterparts in a negative way and take advantage of the situation. This creates a bias of distrustful
feelings, that sympathy may be able to heal, but society might think is self absorption. Nonetheless,
pity is created for the poor creatures. In fact, it is sensibility or empathy that is necessary to have a
deeper connection like love or hate, and it is fear of rejection that may be the culprit of a hesitancy to
love. This relates to the larger picture of the transition between the Enlightenment and Romanticism,
sense contrasts sensibility because sense has logic and sensibility is fueled by emotional reactions

Leadership Autobiography
Sports have always been a major aspect of my life. My passion stems from my own parents who
played sports throughout their lives and encouraged their children to do so. Many of my earliest
memories are of me watching my brother play little league baseball and wanting nothing more than to
be on the field with him. This desire was what prompted me to sign up for softball. I have played
softball since the 3rd grade. Although this may sound cliché, it really has taught me the importance of
working as a team. One player cannot win the game, it takes the team to throw a runner out at first or
sacrifice bunt in order to score a run. From a leadership perspective, I have learned that in order to be
a good leader, you must lead by example first. It

Following a steady decline since 2006, the Juvenile violent Crimes Index arrest rate reached a new
historic low point in 2014. However, crime rates in the 1980 s was comparatively lower than the
recent years. The arrest rate may have lowered, but this could mean that children are becoming more
efficient criminals. Which is why we need to reinforce the juvenile justice system. A quote from
Hanna Chiou further fortifies this statement. ...if our justice system uses mental incompetency as the
reason juveniles have their own separate and more lenient court, why aren t 40 year olds with the mind
of a 10 year old prosecuted in the juvenile justice system... (Chiou 130).Another quote from Chiou
expresses the same fact: ...fully competent and mature juveniles are fully capable of committing the
same crime as a competent adult. (Chiou 141). Why is it that in the eyes of society even children with
high intelligence, who are fully competent, that have malignant motives for committing these
vehement crimes receive gentle treatment, or a mere pop or the wrist? Why is it that age means
automatic innocence? Children who commit these crimes have obviously chose so. Remember: Young

Reasons for Allied Victory in World War One
The extent to which a country can establish and retain a state of Total War inevitably leads to victory.
In World War 1, the allied forces ability to achieve this resulted in their success. The production of
munitions and American funding, resource allocation and the British Blockade, gave the allies a clear
advantage on the home front. The utilization of the superior weaponry and manpower as well as
improved tactics on the battlefront gave the allies an upper hand in this war of attrition. The final loss
of German morale on both the home and battlefronts, directly influenced by allied propaganda, the
arrival of the Americans and Germany s political instability, led to the cessation of the war and thus,
allied victory. The allied and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These strategies were then consolidated in 1918. The allies also adopted the use of Gas, it being one of
the most feared weapons. Source B depicts the use of gas masks. As gas was used frequently, allied
soldiers would often wear their masks as a precautionary measure, especially when firing machine
guns, like the source shows. The allied forces superior manpower aided in the war of attrition that
WW1 had become. The allies could gain troops from a number of nations as by the end of the War,
over 32 countries were supporting them. Germany was by then fighting alone. As source C displays,
despite the fact that the allies had more military deaths than that of the central powers, their population
was around eight times larger, thus allowing this high loss of life. The Allied forces essentially had
more personnel, weaponry and munitions supplies. This, along with their ability to develop tactics and
engage all elements of the battlefront, supported the perpetuation of Total War and the allies victory.
The loss of German morale on both the home and battlefronts greatly affected the outcome of the war.
This diminution of confidence was directly related to allied propaganda, the entrance of the Americans
to WW1 and the political instability of Germany. The lack of food supplies due to the British
Blockade and increasing casualty lists begun to make an impact on German morale. This, combined
with the allies

The Negative Impacts Of Globalization
The Negative Impacts of Globalization
Across the world, globalization is one of the most significant aspects that has occurred over the last
fifty years. It allows a country to integrate economically with other countries through a global network
comprised of people, trade, and transportation. With the global landscape only becoming more
intertwined, globalization and its inherent pros and cons seem to be here to stay. In many areas, global
powers tend to lack in rectifying the negative aspects and only focus on the positive side. America, for
example, is a leader in the globalization efforts, even though it has greatly effected job opportunities at
home, widening income gaps, and an increased standard of living due to fluctuating world markets.
America has been involved in globalization since before its conception as colonist relied heavily on
trade. Osland states that even, during the 15th century, voyages were made by explorers who were
funded by the European monarchs to seek new trade routes (Osland 137). The colonist eventually
began trading with natives as they bartered for spices and treasures in exchange for anything that the
natives deemed of use. Eventually, trade companies were established to control the flow of more
products and it only expanded from there. After World War 2, world banks were created to help with
the post war clean up and the global markets began to gain power as trade became a priority for most
countries.
A major globalization agenda is to

Television And Reality Television Shows Essay
The media as a whole has been a huge impact on their viewers lives. People do not just watch a
television show, they tend to normalize the characters and their roles into their day to day lives. When
analyzing the media and focusing on drama and reality television shows, the impact that these shows
have on some of their women viewers are noticeable. Television drama shows are fictions that the
average person can relate to. They are made with real life problems that people can sympathize with.
Television dramas have become the newest therapy to people. People go to these over dramatized
shows for the answer to their problems. Most tend to forget that these are fictional television shows,
meaning they are made up characters with false problems. These shows tend to show women as the
house wife, pretty and skinny, and powerful but weak minded. When looking at reality television
although it is unscripted and tend to be real life situations, producers do pick out cast that are not
relatable to and unlike the average person. On television dramas and reality shows men tend to be
shown as dominating women in relationships, as women are shown as the men s trophy. Also, as a
whole television dramas and reality shows show women as sexy figures, emotionally unstable, and
less than a man which effects their everyday lives. Television dramas and reality shows has a negative
effect on female views by showing them in a negative light.
Since women made an appearance on television shows,

Why Are Heroes Bad

Firstly, the heroes that we have, especially as children, do affect us dramatically in our behaviour

the right people to idolised a lot of the time, which in turn reflects on our societal values needing to be
deeply questioned. Take a sports star, for example. A huge number of children will grow up having a
sports star or stars affecting their attitudes and values. These athletes can no doubt have some very
positive impacts, as many of them come from poverty or tough circumstances. It s these athletes that
give children in similar situations hope. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The way our heroes and idols act has a strong influence on how we behave as well. This can be seen in
many circumstances with the most obvious being celebrities setting trends. The caricatures we create
can also be very harmful to ourselves. Another example of negative role models is kids growing up in
a ghetto often idolise local gang members. This tends to lead to those same kids replicating gang
member behaviour, murdering, stealing and raping. The end result is some of these kids either in jail
or dead. This is a huge problem in our society. We value people with self centered and lack of empathy
not because we value these qualities within the person, but we look up to the people that are revolting
against the systems and cycles of poverty and pain that we are trapped in. Young children in
impoverished areas look up to gang members because they see that even though they started from
nothing, as they did, they became part of something that stands up to the idea that all they will ever be
is at the bottom of the food chain, picking up the scraps others have left behind. For this reason, it s
easy to see why these common thugs are idolised, they have respect and this is something that every
person wants, especially people that aren t given any. However, it does not do us any good to look up
to people that slip through the cracks of the system, but rather we should try to change the system so
this build up of resentment between different facets of society does not

How Did Isolationist Sentiment Influence US Foreign Policy...
As the United States went through two World Wars between 1914 and 1941, isolationist sentiment had
a large influence on US foreign policy. There were many causes for such isolationist beliefs as the era
included many significant changes. The main change that Americans experienced during this time
period was the immense difference in the decades, with a roaring economy in the 1920s following the
first World War and a Great Depression in the 1930s which would end with the start of the second
World War. With such large changes occurring within the lives of Americans during this entire period
of time, isolationist sentiment rose. As such beliefs became widespread, US foreign policy became
influenced by such isolationism. Isolationism meant that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With such events occurring quickly in such a small time period, the second World War came as a
massive shock. Yet again, Americans called for isolationism and neutrality as they believed America
should focus on ending the Great Depression, not worrying about and dealing with the international
issues of other nations and peoples. By analyzing Document 5, it is clear that many Americans still
believe in isolationism during the Great Depression. Bennett Champ Clark states in his Defense of the
First Neutrality Act that the desire to keep the United States from becoming involved in any war
between foreign nations seems practically unanimous among the rank and file of American citizens.
Americans influenced the US foreign policy yet again as the First Neutrality Act was passed in 1935.
By analyzing Document 6, it is clear that President Franklin D. Roosevelt and the choices he made
were still influenced by isolationist sentiment as he states in his Quarantine Speech that it is my
determination to adopt every practicable measure to avoid involvement in war. However, it is clear in
President Roosevelt s speech that he knew that entering the war was inevitable as he states that the
peace of the world and the welfare and security of every nation, including our own is today being
threatened by that very thing (war). Although the United States tried its best to not enter the second
World War for many years, it could not avoided by the end of 1941. On December 7, 1941, Pearl
Harbor was bombed by the Japanese. The federal government s response to this attack can be analyzed
in Document 7, President Roosevelt s Pearl Harbor Address to the Congress of the United States. In
response to the attack, Roosevelt calls for Congress to declare . . . a state of war has existed between
the United States and the

Duality In Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde
There are two sides to every person, and that is expressed largely in the book, The Strange Case of Dr.
Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by Robert Louis Stevenson. Duality is also expressed in the play, Romeo and
Juliet, by William Shakespeare. The book Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde talks about how man has two
natures, a good nature and an evil nature. The statement, I stood already committed to a profound
duplicity of life (Stevenson, 123) expresses this. Henry Jekyll was a good man; he helped people. H
had great friends, was very intelligent and a respected doctor in London. Henry also had another side
to himself, and he named that side Hyde. Hyde was an evil looking man. People said he had a hint of
deformity but no one could say what was deformed about him. He was not a respected man; he was
hated by people that he met. He engaged in all manner of evil acts. He did terrible things that
Victorian society frowned upon. Yes, I preferred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Friar Lawrence compares man to plant. The Friar expressed the duality found in nature when he says,
In man as well as herbs, grace and rude will; (II,III, 28 Shakespeare). Friar Lawrence also talks to
Juliet about how one small pretty flower holds the power to kill or heal: Within the infant rind of this
small flower poison hath residence and medicine in man as well as herbs, grace and rude will... (II, II,
23 31 Shakespeare). There is evil in beauty and beauty in evil. This is comparable to where Jekyll and
Hyde live. Hyde lives in a pretty neighborhood with a nice courtyard and shops, but when one see
Hyde s house it is the complete opposite of the neighborhood; it is old and decrepit; the paint is
peeling and the door has no knob. This is an example of evil or ugliness in beauty. Jekyll lives in this
older part of the city. The buildings are run down, but when you see Henry Jekyll s house, it is
beautiful. This is an example of beauty living alongside

Orson Welles And Citizen Kane
A film released in 1941 that tells the story of a man thrown into high social class. The audience
witnesses the predicament of a man, who is split in half between his polar personalities. Charles Foster
Kane has recently died and the predicament of interpreting his life and its meaning is left upon a
single reporter. ...A group of prominent films critics were asked to list the greatest directors and the
greatest films, Orson Welles and Citizen Kane both came in first (Carringer 32). Orson Welles
produces, co wrote, directed, and starred in the great American classic film, Citizen Kane, at the age of
26. Throughout this entire film, the audience is morally challenged along with being entertained about
the rise and fall of an American hero or villain depending on which way you look at it. It is
unquestioned that this film achieved great things in cinema. Welles utilizes the techniques of deep
focus, close ups, visual symbolism, and using several perspectives to tell the story of Charles Foster
Kane.
Citizen Kane contributed to the cinema world the most with its use of deep focus. This technique is
interesting in the fact that it includes everything in the frame, even the background, in focus all at
once. Welles was forced to combine lighting, shadowing, and using different lenses to produce this
effect. French theorist Andre Bazin described this technique as a dialectical leap forward in the
language of cinema, allowing directors to preserve realism and ambiguity of

Clean The Bore Research Paper
There are two reasons to clean the bore of any firearm. It improves accuracy and putting away a gun
with a dirty bore is courting the formation of rust which will cause pitting, thus ruining a valuable
barrel. Frequent cleaning of firearms and barrels reduces fouling buildup, makes fouling removal
easier, and reduces the chance of bore damage to firearms. When cleaning a bore of a barrel you will
first need a quality one piece straight rod of the correct diameter for the caliber. The rod needs to be
just long enough to accommodate the length of barrel you are cleaning. Second is a quality bore guide
made for an Ar platform style guns these replace the bolt carrier and some are tight fitting with O rings

With bore brushes, make sure the windings in the middle of the brush never terminate at the front,
exposing their rough ends that can dig into the bore. Ammonia free Windex is used after each cleaning
to remove two types of solvents. Petroleum based bore solvents can contribute to carbon fouling.
Copper solvents have ammonia in them and trace ammonia left in the bore can combine with
chemicals in the burning of gunpowder to form a substance corrosive to barrel steel. Avoid mixing
different brands of solvents. First, bore brushes offer the greatest resistance on the first use.
Thoroughly flush the crud out and reuse them until they wear out. Be careful because flex from the
cleaning rod equals more potential damage to the bore. You can push a patch forward until it almost
exits the muzzle and then pull it back to the front of the chamber. Flex can come from the second time
you stop pulling it and begin pushing it forward. back and forth scrubbing will cause rod flex that

Righteousness In Genesis
Starting in the latter half of the fourth chapter of Genesis, the line of Cain is presented as being wicked
and displaying a lack of regard for God. The fifth chapter, however, offers a light in a dark tunnel with
the line of Seth. Amongst the line of Seth, men began to seek after God and call upon His name (cf.
Gen. 4:26). Enoch, for example, would come to characterize Seth s line and contrast individuals like
Lamech in Cain s line. Noah would also be a descendant of Seth and would be allowed by God to
continue the human race despite the flood. However, the righteousness contained within Seth s line
would not persist for long. Picking up in the sixth chapter of Genesis, the sons of God saw the

Why Do Americans Already Enjoy Living Standards
#1. Americans already enjoy living standards that far exceed world averages. Do we have enough?
Should we even try to produce more? I think it is vital that Americans always continue to strive for
prosperity because our economy is so market driven. Without the motivational drive for increasing
output we would begin to lose vital elements behind our overall production in the United States.
Although, I think it is important that we remember the goods and services that our lower class enjoys
are considered luxuries in the poorer population of many other nations.
Summing up my point I d say we have enough but we must continue to treasure the mentality of
wanting more because it made our current standards of living possible.

A Doll s House By Henrik Ibsen
Realism is a theatrical movement during the 19th century, illustrating a story without artificial and
supernatural elements, in other words, a realism play would show things that happen in our everyday
life, much like naturalism. We can distinguish realism from other theatrical movements by the facts
that its characters are believable to be the everyday type, the costumes are authentic to the time period
being illustrated, the setting is based in only one location that is as close to our everyday life as
possible, and because the story happens within 24 hours and only has one story line.
There are many similarities between realism and naturalism. Some of those similarities are that both
genres illustrate events that could happen in real ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it was not until the mid 1900 that modern realism really emerged. By the 1950s, the box set
with three walls was introduced and popularized. The box set is a way to stage something so that it
creates the illusion of an interior room on the stage.
An important name during the modern realism movement is Henrik Ibsen. Ibsen is now considered the
founder of modern realism. Ibsen owes his title to his most famous play A Doll s House featuring the
the taboo and deep seeded unrest in women of the time (1). In other words, Ibsen illustrated the
everyday lives of his middle class audience.
In doing so, Ibsen was soon followed by the Russians Chekhov and Gorky. Both writers were
founders of the socialist realism, which is a style with the purpose of spreading the goals of socialism
and communism. Chekhov and Gorky wrote about the boredom of the uneventful lives of the middle
class, and later on they would portray the poorest classes as a suffering and working class. Gorky
wrote The Lower Depths , which illustrated the working class and their living conditions. On the other
hand, Chekhov wrote Three Sisters or even The Lady With the Dog , which portrayed the life of the
middle class. All of those plays are now considered masterpieces of the socialist realism

Personal Privacy or National Security
Personal Privacy or National Security

Defining National Security VS Personal Privacy is a matter of looking at the basic nature of each.
From research collected there is a consensus that we need balance. Too much of one hurts the other
and vise versa. There are a couple of articles that range from Civil Liberties to the birth of public right
to know that support the overall claim. Talks about the effects of censorship in different situations like
war and peace will help prove that a balance needs to be forged. The problem here isn t the definition

This kind of action is completely unnecessary and undermines our Fourth Amendment. National
security is the ability to protect our borders through homeland security while upholding the rights of
nation. Privacy when openly tampered with is distorted. Nobody acts the same knowingly being
watched. Information finds another way. There have been studies on lesser issues like workers. There
is more productivity when people think they are being watched. The same when our liberties are at
stake. What are people to do when it s done for the wrong reasons? Like when an African American
see s a sign that separates white and color bathrooms. Another would be when the Jews were forced to
where a star then live separately in their own projects. The US jokes about our nation being like
fraternity. Every new group gets picked on. The Jew s for being good with money. The Mexicans for
being illegal s and now it s the Arab s turn. But Arab s are all terrorist somehow. We have seen terror
before from the Unabomber, the KKK, and columbine shooting. How do we keep up with inflation?
The government finds one way to gather information and terrorist adapt. When civil liberties get
trampled in the process more anti American groups rise to the occasion creating more danger inside
America and out. A different example can be Adolf Hitler as a ruthless dictator and his main success
as a dictator was propaganda. It

behavior of engineers in regard to working for a company. This includes confidentiality and conflict of
interest, teamwork, employee right and employer right. Each of these sections will be covered
separately, and their impact on Senior Design Project 3 will be considered.
Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest The first section of chapter 6 covers non disclosure of

Teamwork and Rights Section two of chapter 6 covers teamwork in a corporate setting, as well as
employer and employee rights. To promote the morally responsible actions of employees, corporations
need to promote an ethical work climate. Four main tenants of an ethical workplace are presented. The
first is that both employees and managers acknowledge ethical values, and that responsibilities to
stockholders, customers, and other stakeholders are kept. The second tenant is the use of ethical
language in corporate dialog, such as introducing a code of ethics. Third, managers need to set a moral
tone in actions and words, and through examples and personal behavior. Finally, companies should
have a conflict resolution procedure. Loyalty is also covered in section 2 of the chapter. Loyalty to the
employer is discussed, which includes both agency loyalty and attitude loyalty. Above all, engineers
loyalty remains with the public according to the National Society of Professional Engineers. In their
code of ethics, they state engineers should hold paramount the safety, health and welfare of

Bullies Vs Dictators
Your typical school bully and a country s dictator, what s the difference? When asked this question
many said, One rules the school, while the other one rules a country. . The truth is, there are many
differences between the two, but with differences comes similarities. What are some differences
between these two tyrannical figures? First, we need to know what a dictator and a school bully is. A
dictator is a ruler with total power over a country. One of the most well known dictators is Adolf
Hitler. Adolf was a dictator who was considered the most terrifying man of his time . A school bully is
a person who uses strength or power to harm or intimidate those who are weaker. Now that you know
the definitions of each, we can go on into the differences between the two. The most important
difference between the two is why they treat people inadequately. School bullies overpower people
because they feel insecure about themselves. Dictators, on the other hand, treat people atrociously
because they strive for power. The next difference is that a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

dictator abuse, control, intimidate, and force others. A school bully forces people to abide by their
rules, even if they are against the law. A dictator also forces people to act in accordance with their
laws. If they contravene, they will have to face the consequences. Ultimately, a school bully and a
dictator are both excellent speakers. Both figures can get themselves out of a sticky situation. When a
bully gets questioned by an administrator, they speak smoothly and often avoid getting punished.

However, there is another way that you can go and you might make more money; is if you rent your

The Inner Beast Emerges
The beast that lies inside of us all shows what it can do when it has a chance too.

The Lord of the Flies is a 250 page novel written by Sir William Golding. It was first published in
1954 and since then, has become a worldwide success. A quote from Golding was The right
impression is the one that rises to the reader the first time he reads the book , This was perfectly suited
for his book, as his book was a best seller. The movie based on the novel Lord of the Flies was first
made in 1963 in black and white, then made again in colour in 1990 by Harry Hook. The movie has

Confucianism And Legalism
The law in which the Qin constructed was harsh and unjust. They abolished the Zhou ist feudal
system, replacing it with controlled local administration. The term in which this practice is called is
Legalism; the belief in which people are born with evil tendencies. The government demanded total
subordination of the people to the ruler. Although there is no commonly recognized founder, there is
one person who is credited for the establishment of Legalism: Shang Yang, an important statesman

This system was to keep everyone in their place and avoid rebellions and uprisings. There were
reports of subordination put into place once every three months, summaries every six, and permanent
records every twelve. There was a doctrine fixed into law, called the Six Parasites. This is however a
textual problem, there are actually sixteen. These parasites were rites, music, odes, history, cultivation,
goodness, filial devotion, brotherly love, sincerity, trustworthiness, uprightness, integrity, humaneness,
rightness, criticism of army, and lastly being ashamed of fighting. To violate any of these laws against
the six was subject to punishment. Death to any criminals and any officials who allowed crimes, their
punishments were carried out to their families and three generations after. When punishments are
imposed, they shall not be applied to the guilty party alone. Punishments were severe. Small crimes
were punished severly to make sure the punishment was understood and not repeated, especially if it
were a larger crime. When Shang Yang wrote, ...if they let their ambition go too far, they will become
too strong... it is interpreted that knowledge and aspiration for a better life can be power and lead to
rebellion against the government. More consequential victims were the critical thinking of Legalists
and the spirit of ruling by law, blamed for Qin s demise and condemned for two millennia by
Confucians advocating the rule by men

How the Western Film Genre Has Developed over the Past...
The Western film genre is typically set in a secluded village in the middle of the desert, normally in
the American West. The setting includes wooden buildings, tumble weed, cacti, trains, horses and
carriages. The storyline for western films is usually the same, namely, a hero travels to a remote
village, usually on a horse, and brings peace to the warring villagers. In a traditional Western film the
clothing for the hero is usually a white hat, (this is to show purity). The hero would also wear a

The first film that showed early signs of a rise in the quality of technology was the Western The Great
Train Robbery. When this film first came out the audience were so amazed at the fact that they could
watch something on a TV or at the cinema. Although this film was very good for the 1900s it still
lacked some key features that make films much easier to understand such as dialogue, sound and
camera shots. The one feature of a film that developed the quickest over the period of time was sound.
Sound was introduced in October 1927 in the film The Jazz singer , which had three song numbers
and a few lines of spoken dialogue. Apart from these few songs and words, the rest of the movie was
silent, but the audience still thought that it was amazing that words had been spoken in the film, they
used to call it the movie that talked . The Western became one of the most popular film genres
between the 1930s and the 1950s because of theses advances in technology. The development of
smaller, lighter cameras freed the cameras from a tripod allowing more detailed camera work. To
show moving effects cameras could be put on platforms that were attached to rubber wheels or steel
rails like railroad tracks. The cameras could also be raised and lowered on cranes. Another thing that
made Westerns more popular was the introduction of full colour in the 1930s and widescreen in the
1950s,

Hunt Descriptive Writing
Waking up before the rising sun on the morning of the hunt left me feeling groggy with my eyes slow
to open and close when blinking. Being extra quiet to not wake up my mother was a main challenge,
trying to tippy toe around the cabin and dodging the creaky spots in the floor. Prior to eating breakfast,
I began getting dressed. Due to the fact that I was in northern Minnesota, the weather was bone
chilling and the wind would seep right through your layers onto your unexpecting skin. Once I had put
on my long johns, sweatpants, and long sleeve shirt with a tee shirt on top I began to make my
breakfast. I had decided to have scrambled eggs that were cooked to perfection with the yolk golden
mixed in with the pure snow white egg white and flakes of pepper sprinkled throughout and toast with
butter melted onto the crunchy outside making it soft with homemade strawberry jam spread thick on
top. After I had finished my meal I continued getting ready. In doing so I put on the remainder of my
clothes, my sweatshirt and hunting pants came next followed by my wool socks and winter hunting
boots. Next I checked to make sure my backpack was ready and had all the essentials in it in case
something were to happen. Lastly I grabbed my already loaded sleek black shotgun and put on my
heaving winter coat, hats and gloves. Now I was ready to begin my hunt. Starting out, I was walking
slowly down the freshly snow covered dirt lane in front of my cabin. As I was walking I could hear the

Computer Security And Social Engineering Essay
Computer security is a very important topic in today s world. One does not have to look far to read
about data breaches, DDoS attacks, or other computer related crimes. When we think of cybercrime,
we usually envision the Hollywood portrayal of technical hackers typing vigorously and wearing dark
sunglasses. However, in reality, hacking tends to be much less glamorous. Actually, one critical
element is often overlooked by the general public and movies alike; yet, every security professional
knows, people are the weakest link, when it comes to security. In fact, as part of a demonstration at the
2010 Def Con hacking conference, large corporations were subject to social engineering techniques.
The result was alarming: 96% of employees contacted by phone or email disclosed confidential
information... (Ricart). In this paper, I will discuss the concept of social engineering: what it is, the
types of attacks, the framework used in carrying out said attacks, and lastly, I will address
countermeasures to mitigate the risk. Social engineering, as defined on social engineer.org, is any act
that influences a person to take an action that may or may not be in their best interest (social
engineer). Human nature is a very interesting topic and one that has been studied for centuries.
Throughout its history, certain patterns and behaviors have been observed. Therefore, social
engineering is a type of applied science that is rooted in psychology, however its nature is fluid and
varies

Analysis Of Black Swan And Shutter Island
Martin Scorsese and Darren Aronofsky are talented directors who have created many award winning
films that incorporate certain techniques used to enhance the audience s experience of the film, some
of their directorial techniques include symbolism, costume, lighting and dialogue. I have chosen
Scorsese s 2010 film Shutter Island along with Aronofsky s 2010 film Black Swan as each of these
films have scenes that incorporate the above mentioned techniques to portray the effects mental illness
has on a person s health and welfare. The scenes are each 8 minutes in length and run until the closing
credits begin. These techniques allow the audience to relate to the film by showing how it links to the
world we live in today where mental illnesses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Symbolism is shown predominantly with the use of a war between black and white in relation to the
war between the persona s Nina has in her mind. These symbols allow the audience to link to the
director s main purpose of showing the effects mental illness has on the people suffering and also
others that are involved closely in their lives. In both Shutter Island and Black Swan symbolism is
featured profoundly throughout which gives the audience the chance to look for the deeper meaning in
what they are viewing. The use of a number of different techniques such as costume and props
displays hidden meaning in the film to the viewers and how this is expressed could hit certain levels of
the psychological and emotional labyrinth that all of us have according to Scorsese. Symbolism in
these films helps the audience understand the effects of mental illness by the cues shown such as the
plaster on Teddy s forehead and the scratch on Nina s back, the more obscure cues given show that
Teddy is a figment of imagination in Andrews mind and becoming a real black swan is also a figment
of imagination in Nina s mind. Events that have happened in both Nina and Andrews past have taken
over, leading them on the path of psychological disintegration. The symbolism used to portray this in
both films is

  • 3. The Importance Of Conscription On Australia During World War I, there were many wartime controls placed on Australia. The wartime controls I will focus on in this essay are Conscription, the use of government propaganda, and Censorship. They all had played an important part in Australia s army system and involvement in the war. What is conscription? Conscription is where it is compulsory to enlist for state service, mainly military service. This wartime control was enforced on every country who participated in World War I except Australia, South Africa and India. Australia tried to pass a conscription law twice during World War I, the first in 1916 and the second in 1917. Due to not having a conscription law, Australia would face problems during the first world war. At the start of the war, many people had enlisted, so many that some were forced to be turned away. However after everyone realised the horrors of the war, enlistment would slowly decrease as the war went on. Even though conscription wasn t a law, other ways and methods made men join the army. One method was women shaming their male relatives who didn t join the army . This method was supported the government and would make the men feel ashamed of themselves. Therefore, some of the men would join the army despite not wanting to. Another way that made men join the army was the view of war the men had. When the war had just started, men believed that the war would give them adventure and excitement. This is why there was such high volumes of enlistment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on Sociology of Health and Medicine Mike Bury (2001) has undertaken a considerable amount of research on illness narratives and its different forms. Illness narratives and narrative analysis can be evaluated through three different types. The first is contingent narratives, which address beliefs about the origins of disease, the proximate causes of an illness episode, and the immediate effects of illness in everyday life (Bury 2011, p. 263). Secondly, another form of narratives are moral narratives, which provide accounts of (and help to constitute) changes between the person, the illness and social identity, and which help to (re) establish the moral status of the individual or help to maintain social distance (Bury 2011, p. 263). Lastly, Bury defined the third form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narratives that have been outlined through this research study take the forms of contingent, moral and core narratives. Although there is an abundance of previous research conducted on the effects of marijuana use on work/school (Earleywine 2002, Neinstein 2002, Roffman, R, Stephens, R Marlatt G 2006), the participants involved continue to have both positive and negative accounts for marijuana use on work and school. The various detrimental effects range from the effects that marijuana has such as the changes of capabilities that are required for activities such as work and/or study. These include motivation, memory and cognition and also capabilities of vehicle operation for work including visual perception and divided attention. The use of marijuana has been found to have a range of harmful effects on the health state of an individual, which can affect work ability (Smith et al. 2013). Involved in this are the potential for a progression to harder drugs, mental illness, worsened immune function, lung cancer and brain tissue damage (Earleywine 2002). However, some researchers do not believe that all the side effects of marijuana use have negative consequences. For example (Aronson 2009) believes that it has a significant positive contribution in medical value with the treatment of conditions that may be detrimental to work ability. These include issues such as pain, nausea, appetite loss and neurological disorders. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Inchoate Crime Research Paper Simone Limas Prof. Turner ADMJ 4 0556 1 October 2017 Inchoate Crimes: A closer look at criminal attempt The criminal justice system is continually looking for ways to take preventative measures to halt crime before it happens however when faced with defining attempted crimes the courts have found it difficult to determine when an action should be punished the same or lesser than a completed crime. However, there are three types of inchoate crimes that can be punishable by law as these crimes are the beginning steps of the crime. The three types of offenses include solicitation defined as persuading or encouraging one to commit a crime, conspiracy which is the agreement to commit crime and possibly act on agreement and attempt is the unsuccessful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, attempt has two different subcategories of attempt that are punishable by law. Complete attempt also known as imperfect attempt is when the individual covers all steps to commit crime but fails to follow through, an example of a complete attempt is if a shooter misses his target in a drive by attempt. An incomplete attempt is if the individual is forced to abandon the attempted crime due to reasons beyond one s control, an example of an incomplete attempt is if the shooter had to abandon location because of known whereabouts by the police. Although, there is a third type of attempt known as the impossible attempt in which the attempt could have been completed had the scenario played out correctly such as if the shooter shot at the targets location and target is not present however this attempt is not a defense in an attempt to commit a crime. Impossible attempts otherwise known as factual impossibility cannot be used as a defense for criminal attempt and is not recognized by the Moral Penal Code. Another type of impossibility is inherent possibility in which the act could never be achieved. However, factual impossibility and inherent impossibility should not be confused with legal impossibility. The term legal impossibility refers to when an individual commits an act that they believe is illegal however the act is not although type of impossibility can be used as a ... Nearly 600 years before the assassination of Julius Caesar, the famous Greek fabulist Aesop knew the power of persuading others. From then until now, persuasion is a huge part of everyday life. Examples of persuasion include advertisements incall forms of media: books, billboards, and especially speeches. One of the most celebrated speeches in literary history is the one given by Mark Antony at the funeral of Julius Caesar in William Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. Yet Brutus says he [Caesar] was ambitious, And Brutus is an honorable man. (III.ii.14,15,21,22) Antony constantly reminds the crowd that Brutus was an honorable man while proving to the people of Rome that Brutus was actually wrong about Caesar s ambition. This shows how Antony s repetition as a form of sarcasm was so effective. He clearly states that Brutus is an honorable man, but when he states this, he is simply mocking him and proving to the crowd that he, in fact, is not an honorable man. Not only was Brutus wrong about Caesar in general, he was also wrong about killing Caesar. Antony s speech states, Did this in Caesar seem ambitious? The two boys who are together need a way to pull the others onto the beach to have a meeting. They look over the lagoon, and they see the perfect thing to do this with: a beautiful, colorful conch shell. The two boys worked together to retrieve the shell. In color the shell was deep cream, touched here and there with fading pink. Between the point, worn away into a little hole, and the pink lips of the mouth, lay eighteen inches of shell with a slight spiral twist and covered with a delicate, embossed pattern. The island s diplomatic issues get worse and worse, and both sides want the conch. Ralph still values the conch as the source of power and order, even after order is lost, and so does Jack. Jack is a savage at this point in the story, and doesn t care about order, until he sees Ralph s power through this diplomacy and order. The hunters, led by Jack, eventually destroy the conch as a whole thing and smash it to pieces, and the order upheld by the conch is officially lost. The two tribes of boys are now basically two completely different groups. They are not on good terms, and all friendships have been shattered, just like the conch. The conch often symbolized things; order and authority. The order that was once upheld by the conch was very important to the story, however. When the island first separated, they thought they had lost power. Ralph said, If I blow the conch and they don t come back; then we ve had it. We shan t keep the fire going. We ll be like animals. Each location within Emma s world holds a distinct reality and expectation she must live according to, due to the strong influence it has on her state of mind. Within each city Emma undergoes specific types of emotions and attachments that essentially become the drive to her great depression. Tostes, Yonville, Rouen, and Paris bind together for a single purpose in order to display the overall theme of dissatisfaction and repression, which ultimately become the reason for Emma s ironic death. Emma s distinctive vivid imagination results in an interference within reality when Charles discovers the cigar case with a green silk border (37) on their way home from the ball at La Vaubyessard. For Emma, the case comes to symbolize all the allure, sentimental relationship of the ball itself, and the universe of highborn simplicity and extravagance it represents. Famous philosophers Plato and Bentham have given their ethical viewpoints; from there assumptions can be drawn on their views on capital punishment. The Catholic Church also has its Anti death penalty position. Capital punishment has been a part of human communal society for centuries. Their differences strike in their thought process and in what the rehabilitation would entail. In terms of context Bentham is straight up against capital punishment that causes suffering and strongly opposes it. He also spent more time on it then any of his rival or competing philosophers of his time. He comments in his commentary According to Bentham, a punishment, like any other legal practice, must be morally justified in terms of its conduciveness to the appropriate end. Bentham wanted laws that augmented total happiness of the community as his theory on punishment is that they need to justified and rationale and that in it will generate happiness. Plato however had a structure in place, firstly an orator (similar to a lawyer) would request that person stand trial in front of a court, rather than that person going to be put to death they instead would be given a timoria or a trial of retribution similar to getting rehabilitated or being put on parole. While some major offences of his time were still worth capital punishment Plato stressed that if it is possible and there is a chance for rehabilitation then that person deserves it. • 14. Sense Of Sesponsibility And Sense And Sensibility The most relatable novel to Austen s Pride and Prejudice is her earlier novel Sense and Sensibility written in 1811. The largest comparisons that can be made are the function of screens that shelter, the distinction of being sensible and having sensibility, as well as the necessity of wealth to determine character. According to Sally Palmer, Austen is using fire screens as a symbol for characters who are trying to shield potentially heated emotional outburst or the intense heat of social discourse that would ruin evanescent happiness. The two characters that symbolize this would be Mr. Darcy and Elinor Dashwood of Sense and Sensibility. The author Inger Sigrun Brodey, a reputable JASNA s North American Scholar who is a frequent speaker at Jane Austen Society meetings, writes in the article Making sense of sensibility. from Persuasions: The Jane Austen Journal that Marianne Dashwood symbolizes sensibility and her sister Elinor represents common sense. Marianne shares many similarities with Lydia Bennet, the youngest daughter in Pride and Prejudice. Both believe their world is naturally good without corruption such as greed and lust to mar it. Both have foibles that strangers generally are naturally good. However, in actuality there are very good actors that manipulate the vulnerable. Humans have a way of being imminently selfish and Austen is depicting it with the characters such as the dastardly Mr. Wickham of Pride and Prejudice and thoughtless Mr. Willoughby of Sense and Sensibility. Both men affect their counterparts in a negative way and take advantage of the situation. This creates a bias of distrustful feelings, that sympathy may be able to heal, but society might think is self absorption. Nonetheless, pity is created for the poor creatures. In fact, it is sensibility or empathy that is necessary to have a deeper connection like love or hate, and it is fear of rejection that may be the culprit of a hesitancy to love. It allows a country to integrate economically with other countries through a global network comprised of people, trade, and transportation. With the global landscape only becoming more intertwined, globalization and its inherent pros and cons seem to be here to stay. In many areas, global powers tend to lack in rectifying the negative aspects and only focus on the positive side. America, for example, is a leader in the globalization efforts, even though it has greatly effected job opportunities at home, widening income gaps, and an increased standard of living due to fluctuating world markets. America has been involved in globalization since before its conception as colonist relied heavily on trade. Osland states that even, during the 15th century, voyages were made by explorers who were funded by the European monarchs to seek new trade routes (Osland 137). The colonist eventually began trading with natives as they bartered for spices and treasures in exchange for anything that the natives deemed of use. Eventually, trade companies were established to control the flow of more products and it only expanded from there. Firstly, the heroes that we have, especially as children, do affect us dramatically in our behaviour towards others and views on ourselves. One of the major problems with this is that we don t choose the right people to idolised a lot of the time, which in turn reflects on our societal values needing to be deeply questioned. Take a sports star, for example. A huge number of children will grow up having a sports star or stars affecting their attitudes and values. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way our heroes and idols act has a strong influence on how we behave as well. This can be seen in many circumstances with the most obvious being celebrities setting trends. The caricatures we create can also be very harmful to ourselves. Another example of negative role models is kids growing up in a ghetto often idolise local gang members. This tends to lead to those same kids replicating gang member behaviour, murdering, stealing and raping. The end result is some of these kids either in jail or dead. This is a huge problem in our society. We value people with self centered and lack of empathy not because we value these qualities within the person, but we look up to the people that are revolting against the systems and cycles of poverty and pain that we are trapped in. Young children in impoverished areas look up to gang members because they see that even though they started from nothing, as they did, they became part of something that stands up to the idea that all they will ever be is at the bottom of the food chain, picking up the scraps others have left behind. For this reason, it s easy to see why these common thugs are idolised, they have respect and this is something that every person wants, especially people that aren t given any. Bennett Champ Clark states in his Defense of the First Neutrality Act that the desire to keep the United States from becoming involved in any war between foreign nations seems practically unanimous among the rank and file of American citizens. Americans influenced the US foreign policy yet again as the First Neutrality Act was passed in 1935. By analyzing Document 6, it is clear that President Franklin D.
