Born A Crime by Trevor Noah, is a compelling memoir allowing its readers insight into Noah's daily
life, under apartheid. Just like the title, Trevor Noah was born a crime. To explain, "During
apartheid, one of the worst crimes you could commit was having relations with a person of another

During the process of writing the Intervention Plan I met with the client on a number of occasions.
During those times I observed the client participating in different activities to try and determine her
level of cognitive and physical function. I also spent time talking with her about activities she

In the essay, "In Praise of Margins" Ian Frazier constantly mentions the importance of "marginal"
behavior within places and activities as he interprets this concept as an aimless wonder that
essentially does not provide anything for the economic world. I agree with Frazier's claims as
demonstrated through the potential of margins in discovering new ideas, assisting creativity, and
helping others get out of their comfort zones. This is established throughout the essay as a way

What have you learned from your various leadership experiences?
I have always been a firm believer of the fact that leadership experiences help in shaping a student's
inner as well as outer self to some extent. The kind of leadership activities I have been a part of
range from scholastic activities to sports activities and community services.
My definition of being a leader is one, who is committed to his work, put his best in what his doing
and learning from successes and failures. A leader always strives for success, but when attaining
success seems quite far from reach, the easiest thing is to give up. However, giving up is one's own

Representing my school was never an easy job. During a competition like a business quiz or a chess
completion, I saw like 100 other students competing for one title. Among the 100 students,
eventually one student had to win the title. That does not mean that the 99 other students did not
deserve to win. Thus, these activities made me realise that if I regret about not performing well or
losing, it is only going to affect me further. I should be proud of the fact that I got a chance to
represent my school among my school–mates. When leading a team, I have learnt to have faith in

My Lesson Sequence Using Venn Diagrams And Composition
I assess prior knowledge throughout my lesson sequence using a variety of ways. Before beginning
the learning segment, I will look at students prior work on comparing and contrasting to see where
each student is at in regards to their level of understanding. I found that while some students had a
good understanding of the strategy, there were still many students that could use a thorough
introduction to the concept. This allowed for me to begin planning ways to differentiate my
instruction to include the higher students and the lower students. I crafted the Central Focus students
practice compare and contrast by using Venn Diagrams and composing a paragraph that includes an
introductory sentence, two–three details about how the two things are alike and different, and a
concluding sentence, to encompass requisite skills for my learning segment. The learning targets for
lesson 1,2, and 3, also address questions related to knowledge and skills aligned with the Central
Focus that support student learning. To reach the learning objective for lesson one, students practice
with me and with a pre assigned partner before doing anything by themselves. To provide additional
support to students with literacy needs and IEP/504 plans, I monitor their progress, offer guidance
with questions and different examples if needed, and give verbal cues during each lesson.

The ability of a child to acquire language requires input from a variety of factors. The social–
interactionist perspective emphasizes the importance of both environmental factors and a child's
innate disposition to make sense of language. These are factors that directly coincide with the
purpose of the Early Literacy Assessment (SELA). The classroom I observed is an Pre–Kindergarten

My community– based project will involve children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder
(ASD) and their correlating community age groups. The local community center will hold an after
school program for children with ASD and a night program for adults on the spectrum, ages 18 and

Throughout my placement, I focused mainly on two different children (1 from each school); one

In the classroom, I have had the opportunity of being in both the social worker role and the client
role. These experiences have provided me with great knowledge on how to go about certain
situations that may arise, as well as interventions that may be beneficial to the clients. During the
in–class exercises, I have noticed that in the role of a social worker I get thrown off if the client
responds too strong or responds in a way that is unexpected. I become speechless because I am
completely caught off guard and it seems like I no longer have control over the conversation. During
one of the role plays, I received feedback from the instructor and my peers on how to combat this
issue. The instructor communicated the benefits of using playfulness, acceptance, curiosity, and
empathy (PACE), during those times when I am stuck. The instructor showed me exactly what
PACE looked like in this situation where the client was not wanting to go to school. She showed me
what it means to accept what the client may be saying or feeling in the moment, being able to
empathize and understand the client, as well as being curious rather than making assumptions about

Reflection On Community Work
On October 20, my Visionary Volunteers group performed our 10 hours of community service for
this project with the CommUniverCity organization. This organization focuses on bringing people
from the city of San Jose and SJSU students together to help the community surrounding Downtown
San Jose to become more sustainable and use more renewable resources. We volunteered and helped
out at the Safe and Green Halloween Party which took place at McKinley Elementary School which
is very close to our university. This Halloween party was based on the theme of safety on Halloween
and being environmentally–friendly. I was there for the entire duration of the event from setting up
to cleaning up. For setting up, I helped by cleaning trash off the school playground, arranging tables
and chairs for the various activity booths, and decorating the playground for the event. One
important thing which I learned here was that teamwork helps us to accomplish large tasks faster. I
found out that teamwork helps me to become more social and meet new people. This makes the job
more fun as I interact with others while performing my tasks. If I was working alone, I would not
have enjoyed it as much as it would be more work for me. Also, I would not have had anyone to talk
to while doing my work. This is why I enjoyed working with others to clear trash from the

My Work Experience
The holiday club is a tradition of the Hounslow West Evangelical Church. It is situated on 22
Vicarage Farm Road, Hounslow, Middlesex, TW3 4NW. This activity has to do with little children
between the ages of 3 and 11. It takes place during the summer holiday and it is a five day
programme in August. Before the beginning of the holiday club the executives, that is the Pastor and
his wife, the elders and the youth fellowship, make a plan with various concepts two months before
the programme. I am a member of the youth fellowship and this is how my work experience begins.

The pastor, who is the head of the church, starts the meeting with a prayer and he gives a brief
summary of the origin of the programme. He informs us that it has to do with little children within
the ages 3–11 years. There would be variety of activities such as bible stories, games and memory
verses. We require a medical report on each child, especially those with allergies, we also need their
parent/ carer to sign on who would be dropping the children and picking them at the end of the day's
activity. As the pastor is talking his wife and a few elders would be distributing some refreshments.
During this first meeting the youth fellowship had to elect a president and secretary who will direct
activities during the meetings and further in the programme. This is when I was elected the secretary
of the youth fellowship and at the moment I felt very responsible and I was determined to make
good use of the opportunity.
After the two months preparation the day finally came. Personally I was nervous surprisingly, but I
believe it was due to the fact that I was the secretary and all I wanted was nothing but success
without problems. The first day it started at 9am– 12pm because it had to do with registering the
children and then estimating the amount of needs required for the children. They came with their
parents and they had to settle issues with the elders

Introduction In today's time, social work practitioners work with and within various organizations
and communities often and the need for a small group or team is essential. These small groups are
formed together to accomplish work by increasing awareness and skill within the participation of
each member and leader. Some tasks that cause for a group to be drawn are some form of an
instruction, an opportunity or a perceived concern. In the social work aspect, this group can affect
broader changes for a client.

Our group thought that was a good idea and had begun ballooning our ideas with one another. It was
until we started to hear other group's skits and we felt that ours was too basic. A few moments
before we went up to present we quickly put the first idea into the parking lot and two members
came up with the teen pregnancy skit; I personally felt that that was a much better skit idea because
there was more to continue with instead of the first idea. On this task, I was more of a doer.
Although, I did chart the ideas down as the group was throwing them out. I also was a part of the
balloon analogy, building on the idea of our final skit. When one member said that we should do
teen pregnancy I gave the idea that the teens should also be in a group session with one another
trying to find resources for each of their situations. The entire group contributed ideas and honored
one another's ideas; even when we made the decision to use the parking lot technique it was not
done in an evil or rude manner. On the last task, we were given I can honestly say my entire group
wanted no parts of it. We could not understand for the life of us why we were given a task to make a
song. We complained about it for what seemed like a long time only to enjoy it in the end. I thought

Although teachers plan carefully, the tasks set may be at the wrong level for the pupils you are
supporting. In this situation you may adapt the work to a suitable level so that it more of a challenge
or altered so it is at a level that is achievable by the pupils. Also you may be working with a group
whose abilities are quite varied meaning some may finish before others, it is important that you have
something else for them to move on to. You should inform the teacher after the activity if you have
to do this.
Learners
There may be a variety of reasons why pupils are not able to achieve. This may be caused by;
Lack of concentration: there may be multiple reasons for pupils finding it difficult to concentrate on
the work they have been given. The work may be at the wrong level for them and it may need
modifying to suit their academic level. Some children have a short attention span and the work may
be taking too long to complete. There is also the possibility of issues at home or they may have
fallen out with friends. You may have to talk to the pupil on their own to see why they cannot focus
as their may be an underlying problem.
Poor behaviour: If any of the pupils are not focused due to poor behaviour you need to intervene
straightaway. If pupils are able to continue interrupting they will do so. Always praise the good
behaviour of pupils who are doing what they need to. As a last resort, if one particular pupil
