Mock Interview Research Paper
Overall my mock interview went better than I had initially anticipated it would be. The mock
interview allowed me to find out about skills I did not know I had as well as skills I need to hone in
order to use them to my benefit in interviews in the future. I have had previous experience doing
interviews for jobs and scholarships and have even practiced my interviewing skills in high school. I
believe it is essential in practicing as much as possible how to do an interview because there will
always be a new skill that can be attained and new ways of formalizing an answer to fit the wants of
the potential job or opportunity that may arise. It is important to know how to formalize an answer
on the spot without sounding unsure of the answer the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would allow me to look like I actually want the job or whatever I am being interviewed for.
The most difficult questions for me to answer in a positive manner while connecting it to the
purpose of the interview is talking about bad skill I have. I can list off so many yet I have to
somehow make them sound positive. This is one thing I was unable to do in my mock interview and
need to improve on so much. I remember answering that I am a very indecisive person whom tends
to overthink things prior to making decisions which holds me back at times. The interviewer told me
to keep my answer the way it is but to morph it in a way to sounds positive and beneficial to the
interviewer. The interviewer told me that I could say that my indecisiveness and tendency to
overthink things allows me to analyze possibilities and outcomes that may not have been thought of
had I just made a quick decision. This was a moment of realization for me because I had never
looked at my indecisiveness and overthinking as something convenient. A second thing I need to
improve on is not taking long pauses before answering a question. I want to sound sure of what I am
saying as well as confident in order to shield any little nervousness I may have. I do not want the
interviewer to see me as someone that is unsure but as someone that knows what I am doing and

The Problem Of Dealing With Biased Decision Making
Employers regularly use job interviews as an integral part of the organization's selection and
recruitment processes, yet when meeting someone for the first time, our initial judgments are often
clouded by biases (Rockawin, 2012). The following essay will explore the problem of dealing with
biased decision–making in job interviews which is defined as the cognitive biases which are flaws in
judgments that occurs in particular situations as a result of flawed perception of incoming
information. (Hua, 2011). The "employment interview is a social interaction where the interviewer
and applicant exchange and process the information gathered from each other" (Macan, 2009) and
due to this, biased decision–making is a significant problem because people often make decisions
based on information and advice from outside sources (Luan, Sorkin, Itzkowitz, 2004). Poor hiring
decisions may occur if decision–makers allow these biases to affect their impartial, professional
judgments that could result in negative implications to the organisation (OPP, n.d.). The essay will
propose two recommendations or interventions will be aimed at resolving this problem. The benefits
and risks associated with each intervention will also be addressed.
When strangers meet they are likely to form a reaction or deduce who they are with very limited
information. This same situation can apply to both the interviewer and the interviewee when they
meet for the first time in the job interview. Interviewers may

Story: Employment and Job
JOB INTERVIEWS
A job interview is a process in which a potential employee is evaluated by an employer for
prospective employment in their company, organization, or firm. During this process, the employer
hopes to determine whether or not the applicant is suitable for the role.
TYPES OF JOB INTERVIEWS
1. Traditional one on one job interview
2. Panel Job Interview
3. Behavioural Job Interview
4. Group Job Interview
5. Phone Job Interview
6. Lunch Job Interview
1. Traditional one on one job interview

No matter how the question is worded, take care to get your act together for it because it comes
early in an interview – at the very time when an interviewer is forming an initial impression of you.
A good beginning sets the stage for the halo effect to kick in. The halo effect happens when an
interviewer is impressed with you right off the bat and may assume that if you excel in one area, you
excel in others. When you start to tell about yourself, focus on aspects of your life that illustrate
your value as a candidate for the position you seek. In addition to knowing you have competencies,
skills, and experience related to the potential work, employers want to feel confident that you're the
sort of person who:
Can do the job Will do the job Gets along with others while doing the job
Employers want to know how well you accept management direction. They want to know whether
you have a history of slacking off as you get too comfortable on a job. They want to know whether –
despite their lack of long–term commitment to you – you will jump ship at an inconvenient time if
another employer dangles more money before your eyes.
When answering the Tell Me About Yourself question, bear the following thought in mind:
Focus on the Best You.
A careful questioner hears not only your lyrics, or content, in response to the self–defining question.
The questioner also listens to your music, or where you choose to play fortissimo: * Do you focus

Comparing Two Interview Essay
One man works in an office and the other works on the field. In my interview project I decided to
look at two different job fields to compare the two while learning from each. Not only are jobs
different, but also the people working them are and both come from two different backgrounds. The
most important thing I learned out of the interviews was that no matter what job field you enter, hard
work is required. My first interview was a man named Andrew Galasky who lives in phoenix,
Arizona. Andrew or "Andy" is a Divorce case attorney who owns his own practice. When Andrew
was a kid he had dreams of being a dentist, so in college he followed the dream until he had a
science class. Andy couldn't get pass organic chemistry so he switched to law his second year of
college at Arizona State University. He then graduated college and attended law school at ASU.
After graduating Grad School Andy entered into a law firm eventually breaking off and creating his
own. My second interview was with a retired NFL football player named Terry Battle. Terry also
lives in Phoenix, Arizona but is originally from California. Coming out of high school, Terry
received a full ride scholarship to Arizona State University to play football. Terry ... Show more

There weren't many comparisons to the two except for the fact that they both made over 150k and
both attended Arizona State University. One major similarity I found was that both interviewees said
they never had time to spend with their family. Andy said he worked from 8 A.M to 10 P.M when he
first started, and Terry said he worked from 6 A.M to 8 P.M. Andy said that his hours changed when
he opened his own firm because he controlled when he worked. Terry said his family time stayed the
same until he went into teaching. There were many differences that separated the two between

Evaluating the Effectiveness and Efficiency of Structured...
Agarwal and Tanniru conducted a field experiment to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of
structured versus unstructured interviews, using both novice and experienced interviewers. The
experiment was conducted to compare the efficiency and effectiveness of the cognitive interview
with the standard information requirements interview. However, the experimental results did not
indicate that structured interviews enhanced recall. This triggered the experiment using the
Cognitive Interview.
This experiment is to test the effects that the Cognitive Interview has on memory and recall. Two
hypotheses are tested in this experiment. The use of a theoretically grounded interview technique

By random, a reference librarian was interviewed using either technique by an interviewer trained in
both.
The dependent variables: (1) the number of events elicited per each interview (efficiency), and (2)
the degree of completeness of details recalled per event (effectiveness) were examined.
Cognitive interview was found to be both more effective and more efficient than standard
interviewing techniques in eliciting episodic knowledge from reference librarians. In order for the
cognitive interview to be considered an effective interviewing technique, more than one rater must
determine that the degree of completeness of details of the events collected under the CI are higher
than those collected under the SI.
All interviews were conducted in private rooms individually. The interviews were conducted at the
institute of each patron. Ten students enrolled in a senior–level expert system class who received
training on the SI and the CI during regularly scheduled class time. No one involved knew of the
details of the experiment or the types of techniques being tested. Interviewers received course credit
and monetary compensation for their participation.
The interview has long been part of the systems professional's repertoire of elicitation tools, used
extensively in both requirements analysis and knowledge acquisition. It is said that there are some
drawbacks associated with the use of interviews. Open interviews are seen as

Techniques to Improve Recruiting and Interviewing Practises by Managers
Recruitment and selection have always been critical processes for organisations. In recent years,
there has been growing evidence that the formation of positive psychological contract with
employees provides the basis for a positive outcome in terms of organisational commitment and
motivation. Recruitment and selection are vital stages in the formation of the expectations that form
such a contract, on which, with an emphasis on a two way flow of communication, employees select
an organisation and the work on offer as much as employers select employees. Thus employers need
to see the attraction and retention of employees as part ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Approaches to the recruitment and selection of employees forming the secondary internal market
could be subject to less screening at the point of entry , attention being paid mainly to possession of
the required skills. Such employees might be recruited and selected by cheaper methods but still
perhaps, with a connection to organisational strategy via the specification of competencies. Giving
the findings relating to studies of workers on fixed term contracts and the emphasis given by some
workers to work–life balance, it would seem, however, that the crucial feature of a positive
physiological contract is the use of progressive HR practices whatever the employment contract, and
this will include attention to effective recruitment and selection practises. Once again, employers do
not have a choice relating to the practises they adopt.
Newell and Shackle ton (2000) refer to recruitment as the 'process of attracting people who might
make a contribution to the particular organization'. Within this statement, we can highlight two
crucial issues. First, there is a need to attract people, this implying that people do have a choice
about which organisations they wish to work for. Secondly, the contribution that people will make to
an organisation is not totally predictable. Recruitment and

Pros And Cons Of Oral History
Oral history has been a vital source of historical and important information since the beginning of
human interaction. Recordings and one on one interviews with someone who lived through a certain
time period or particular event can often provide a substantial amount of information and evidences
on a subject that one may be researching. Unfortunately oral history does has its flaws, and it does
not always provide the best source of information. Often information from direct interviews and
other forms of oral history can be misinterpreted and inaccurate. There are quite a few pros and cons
when using oral history as a source of evidence. These pros includes first–hand accounts of a certain
event, person, and/or time period, next access to information not available in books, articles, or
journals, and finally oral history allows for different views and opinions on a subject matter the
opportunity to be heard that otherwise wouldn't. There also are several cons when using oral history
as a source of evidence. As mention earlier information from oral history can and has often been
misinterpreted and inaccurate. Another con includes biases and ideology differences effecting
personal accounts of an event or person. The final con is the creditability of the actually source. In
the Hochschild book and the interview with Stalin's daughter, these pros and cons are present.
Having a first–hand account of a historical event or person can be extremely useful. Someone from

Effective Selection Process Within A Company
Introduction
The manager or interviewer is the person responsible for conducting selection process within a
company. Candidates will be presented with his best showing that are available that meet the profile
and skills searched for by employers, however will the interviewer who is responsible for the
selection, choose the most suitable candidate.
This task is one of the most important within an organization as the abilities that candidates must
meet the set and the interviewer will be the key factor when choosing a future member of the
company.
How a manager would prepare for selection:
To do this, the interviewer must also comply with a composite profile of certain features that make it
effective in making the final decision.

The evaluative attitude is important as it will be present from the beginning of the interview until the
end of the process, in which the interviewer can build an evaluative profile of the person with whom
they have just met.
The ability of the interviewer:
It is necessary to prepare for an interview.
Interviewer training serves as a guarantee that the selection process is accurate, so it is necessary to
consider the following:
A meeting prior to the interview: who will accompany and define what the characteristics of the
profile they are looking for in the applicants.
Define the method for the interview and what questions will be asked.
Topics will be evaluated each according to the skills and experience that they seek in the
interviewees.
In addition it is also important to prepare the place where will be held the interview. Interviewed and
candidates waiting, should not have contact. The time allowed for each candidate must be the same.
Types of interview questions:
There are different types of questions that can be performed in an interview, questions about
educational background and questions seeking vocational training and delve into the CV.
Questions on knowledge of the company and the position being applied for.
Ask about the experience and previous managers or some work situations that reveal if the applicant
has values such as loyalty, responsibility, honesty, etc.

On Monday, March 20th, I conducted a phone interview with Mrs. Abrams, which lasted
approximately half an hour. Even though the calling experience is smooth, I found it more difficult

speakerphone and recorded it on my laptop, but the recording is not very clear. I will figure out a
better way to record interviews for next time.
Overall, the interview went well, and I was able to ask most of my questions. Some of my questions
are too long. My interviewee would start answering it before I finish the whole sentence, but I was
able to address the second part of my question after she answered. There are several overlapping

Abrams said she develops ideas for the exhibitions and works very closely with the artists. She often

something we do, but it is not the only thing we do". For instance, one of the current exhibitions,
Basquiat: East 12th Street, 1979–1980, contains all historical material.
During the showing of an exhibition, Mrs. Abrams often meets with the press as a way to reach out
and encourage more people to come, and organizes programs and events in order to better engage

including film showing, panel discussion, and a cocktail party at the end. She works with the

Who Followed Proper Interview Techniques
1. Describe the elements of an effective interview and indicate if this interview followed proper
interview techniques.
An effective interview starts by building rapport with the interviewee to make him or her feel
comfortable. While doing that, the interviewer should ask simple questions, such as name, date of
birth, and occupation, to obtain a baseline of how the interviewee reacts non–verbally. This baseline
assessment is then used to gauge the interviewee's reaction to more difficult questions about the
issues being investigated to assess the veracity of the interviewee's statements.
The interview in the video does follow the steps for an effective interview. Collins and Reynolds
start out with some simple questions to make DeMarco comfortable, and were able to find some
common ground with DeMarco as part of their baseline assessment. This allowed Collins and
Reynolds to note the changes in DeMarco's mannerisms as the questions became more difficult and
pointed as the interview continued. Also, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It allows for development of rapport between the interviewer(s) and the interviewee and allows the
interviewer to establish a baseline of the interviewee's mannerisms before any difficult questions are
asked. Questions tend to be more open–ended, allowing the suspect to talk freely and inadvertently
provide more information than the interviewee intended to.
An admission–seeking interview is more confrontational. The investigator knows or has a strong
idea of what happened and is attempting to get the interviewee to admit or confirm the information
the investigator obtained during the investigation. The investigator may tell the suspect what he
uncovered to try and have the suspect acknowledge the validity of the investigator's information and
any assumptions the investigator has made to date. A key point the investigator may be trying to
ascertain is why the suspect committed the

Experience-Based Interviews Paper
Essentially, there are two types of structured interviews, which are called situational and experience
based (also called behavioral) (Ellis, 2016). Situational interviews consist of questions asked to
respond to a specific situation one might face in the workplace environment (Ellis, 2016). These
types of questions or scenarios are designed to reveal the candidate's analytical and problem–solving
skill sets, as well as how they would handle an unexpected situation. Experience–based interviews
evaluate past behaviors that are associated to the prospective job (Ellis, 2016). Theoretically, the use
of experience–based interviews is the same as that of biodata, which reflects past behavior as a good

Discrimination and Bias in the Interview Process and the Resulting Effects on Employee Selection
Alicia Crews
Fayetteville State University
Abstract
Discrimination and bias in employee selection was measured by assessing whether interviewers
would select the same candidate from a blind interview versus a traditional in–person interview. For
the study, interviewers were paired with results from blind interviews and then were required to
interview the same employee candidate in an in–person interview. Data was collected regarding the
rate of hiring for the blind interview and the in–person interview. Data suggested that discrimination
and bias were present when making selections based on the in–person interviews. Interviewers
selected the same candidate based on the in–person interview as the blind interview at the rate of
15% suggesting the interviewer's conscious or unconscious biases played a key role in employee
selection.
The employment interview is commonplace in all organizations during the hiring process.
Interviewers are required to select candidates for hire based on provided information from the
candidate including resumes, job applications, and interviews. The general belief is that interviewers
select candidates to hire who meet preset criterion established for the open position. Interviewers
should maintain objectivity during the hiring process to ensure the best candidate is selected for hire

The Interrogation Interview
Interviewing Techniques, The Interrogation Interview
Introduction
We are going to look at the use of interviewing techniques by those who investigate. As a result of
interviews conducted after accidents and criminal offenses, the interviewer must be able to analyze
witness statements in order to translate witness observations into facts and create logic from
confusion. The interviewer must have an understanding of those factors that affect witness reporting.
The gathering of witness information comprises about 50 percent of the investigating technique, the
remaining 50 percent hinges on the ability of the interviewer to analyze and apply his or her
knowledge to the sometimes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the initial stage of the interview, it is important to listen and not evaluate or pass judgment.
Skipping over seemingly routine questions may cause you to miss a point that may later prove to be
helpful. Also, you may pass premature judgment as to the cause and guide the witness in the wrong
direction. If you can anticipate the witnesses' next point you can often phrase a question to guide
them in a certain direction, or to bring out information previously not given. This skill takes a lot of
forethought on the part of the interviewer.
Arranging the Interview
If you must conduct an interview on–scene it is best to interview the witnesses separately and away
from each other. At the initial stages of the interview immediately following the incident, group
interviews should be avoided. Generally, a group interview results in one or two people doing the
talking and the others concurring, even if they don't agree with what is being said.
It is important that the witness understand who you are, whom you represent, and what it is you are
trying to find out. Witnesses should be approached in a positive manner and you should approach
them with the attitude that they will be willing to talk. "You don't want to talk to me, do you?" will
almost certainly elicit a negative response. " I would like to talk to you about what happened here"
will generally put the witness in a more cooperative state. Make the

Mistakes That Can Ruin One 's Interview
In this paper I describe mistakes that can ruin one's interview for a job in person. Interviews can
make or break a relationship. Interviews are the first impressions of someone before they are
accepted or denied. As being the interviewee, one must do research on the company, dress formally,
talk without any slang, and especially not be late to the interview. After reading this paper, one
should be successful in any interview. The first credible source I found that was helpful was
LifeHack.org. LifeHack is one of the top 10,000 most visited sites in the world. This site was made
for college students and was founded by Lean Ho at Hack College. On this site, it describes 5 most
common mistakes during, and before the interview. One common mistake is the wardrobe. Even if
it's summer and blazing hot, that is not an excuse for not being properly attired, this means an
interviewee may not wear short. LifeHack studies say that in the first 7 to 17 seconds, that's the first
impression. If not properly attired, one can be disqualified before open their mouth. The next
common mistake is being late. A good saying is, "If you're not 5 mins early, you're 10 mins late".
Showing up late can have one immediately dismissed. One suggestion LifeHack makes is if you feel
like the interview is too far away from you, suggest to the interviewer to doing an online interview.
Life can throw a lot of obstacles such as traffic or getting lost in an unknown area. Always be early!

Personal Narrative: My Internship At El Mexicano Newspaper
Since June 27th 2016 I have been doing an internship at El Mexicano Newspaper, which is the
largest Hispanic newspaper distributed in Indiana. Throughout the course of this internship I have
had to do a lot of things that have taken me directly out of my comfort zone the primary one being
talking to new people and interviewing them. As a communications major I know it seems strange to
not instantly be a great communicator, however, for me, I believe interviewing people is the most
challenging thing and it has been throughout the course of this internship. Along with interviewing
people I have had to adjust to the grammars of journalism. In college, I took a course that merely
discussed the AP style of writing, however, we were never given a chance to practice it so I had to
play catch–up quite a bit during this internship. The funny thing is though writing was perhaps my
biggest struggle while I was in college, so it took a lot of getting used to especially considering that
this was in fact a paid internship. Emails for example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Selection Process For The Candidates
Selection Process
The selection process for the candidates will consist of four stages that will help to narrow down the
pool of applicants to find the best candidate for the positions. The four stages will include the
preliminary interview, the selection test, the employment interview and the reference checks.
Through this process, the knowledge, skills, attitude, competence and fit with the organization will
be assessed reasonably.
According to Lussier and Kimball (2014), the preliminary or screening interview is an effective way
of identifying promising candidates and save time for the recruiter in later stages. The screening
interview may be conducted online to save further time. Candidates who pass the screening test will

Since the Benefits, Wellness and Accessibility Officer position is a junior–level position, the
candidate will be required to learn most of the skills and competencies on the job. Thus, these tests
will assess that capacity effectively.
Characteristics of an Excellent Resume
An excellent resume stands out against a poor one because of its relevance, organization and
persuasive appeal. According to Guffey and Almontey (2010), an effective resume presents the
qualifications and experience of the applicant in the most persuasive organization, which may be
chronological or functional, or a combination of both. Thus, the choice of organizational style
should be appropriate for the type of organization and the nature of the position being sought by the
applicant.
An excellent resume saves the time of the reader by orienting him or her immediately to the purpose
of the resume. Krizan et al. (2011) explain the importance of beginning the resume with a summary
statement that presents the qualifications, accomplishments or major achievements of the applicant
briefly. This gives the applicant the opportunity to present the most attractive aspects of their profile
before the recruiter.
Inserting the address and contact information is an important part of the resume. Moreover, if the
resume extends to beyond a single page, the contact information should be

Analyzing The Successes And Barriers That Arose Upon...
In social science research, research methods are an essential part of any project because they
determine its validity, reliability and success. For qualitative researchers, interviewing is the most
widely employed means for generating information (Holstein & Gubrium, 2004). It is claimed by
Cohen (et al., 2007) that interviewing is valuable because it not only reports detailed views of
interviewees, but also enables participants to speak in their own voice and express their own feelings
and experiences (Berg, 2007). However, qualitative methods, especially interviewing, differ from
quantitative approaches that many practical and ethical issues might arise in the process of
interviews. Although the literature provides words of advice and caution on conducting qualitative
interviews, only engaging in the interview could make people realize they made mistakes that
limited the voice of their participants in favor of their own. In this article, I will describe the
successes and barriers that arose upon reflection of my initial interviewing experience. As a novice,
my analysis will focus more on the difficulties and mistakes because this might be more insightful
and helpful to my development.

The Importance Of Interviewing An Interview
When preparing for an interview, a great deal of thought and consideration needs to be completed
before the interview even begins. The person conducting the interview needs to think about where
the interview is going to take place, the time of which it will occur at, and what kind of technology
will be used. They need to review the file and consider who is being interviewed, what the person
has experienced, and how they may be affected. Interviewing someone is a crucial part of policing,
and ultimately helps police solve crimes. When it is done properly, it can be very successful, but if it
is not done properly, it could ultimately end an investigation. Therefore, an interview can either be
successful or not, and here are some points displaying the success and improvements that can be
done in interviews.
Throughout the videos, there were many times in which the interviewer was successful and
conducted a good interview. The interview room was assembled appropriately, except for the table,
which could have acted as a barrier between them. The proxemics amongst them was at a good
distance for an interviewer and a victim. His pitch and tone of voice remained calm and relaxing
throughout the interview. Due to her traumatic state, it was very important that he remained calm.
There were some signs of good communication from him, including positive eye contact and active
listening. Throughout the duration of the interview, he was taking a few notes, but he continued to

1. What have you learned this semester about interviewing clients? Be specific. This semester I
learned it is my job as the practitioner to listen to the clients tell their story, rather than try to be the

result of this course. Some interviewing skills that I have learned as a result of this course are to
always practice active listening skills, professional language, and to be a good observer. Active
listening skills are important, so the practitioner has the ability focus and hear what the client is
stating. Professional language is something that I learned because working with children who have

A Interview On Applying For Jobs
Applying for jobs can be very stressful and for many people the most nerve racking part is the
interview. An interview is a crucial step in the job application process, and one slip–up could cost a
person much more than the job, such as their home if unable to pay due to lack of income.
Employers want to be sure they have the best people working for them, and interviewing is a great
way for people to determine if the job and the company is a good match for them. Some people have
a difficult time with the interview process, because they are not sure what to expect or how to act. It
's extremely important that one knows good communication skills, how to behave, and how to dress
for an interview.
There are a few steps the candidate should take to prepare for the interview. The first step is to
become well educated about the company, as well as, the interviewer, if possible. An individual who
takes the time to research the company and its history will be more more knowledgeable. This will
make answering questions like ,"What about this company interests you"? or "How would your
skills benefit this company"? easier and the candidate can assure their answers are relevant to the
position. Knowing about the company can guide the individual on how to dress for the interview. It
is always important to dress professionally for an interview, but depending on the company culture
one might find that a business suit is considered overdressed and that khaki's and dress shirt are

Relevant Theories That Pertain To Dick's Life
I. Pre–Interview Preparation: Two Relevant Things The 1940s were a time of uncertainty and relief
for many Americans due to the nation's participation in the Second World War. Americans were on
edge and in battle up until 1945, when the war ceased, and then everything became calm. During
this time, my elder would have been in his middle childhood, probably too small to realize that the

This perspective emphasizes that people are not necessarily products of their environment or their
childhoods, but instead, people are driven by a desire to grow which makes possible small or radical
changes (Hutchison). The Humanistic Theory is applicable to Dick's middle adulthood when he set
out to start his own business from the ground up. He described this choice as one of the hardest
things he'd even done, because what was a crazy idea then, had to work out for him. Dick worked as
an insurance broker for several different companies after he graduated from college, and he loved
his job and truly enjoyed what he was doing. Even though this is all true, he knew he would be truly
happy if he started his own business and became his own boss, and that is exactly what he did. He
shared with me that he and his wife, Paula, were the only two employees for many years in his
company, but there were also people that questioned his ambitious decision. Dick confided to me
that his parents were skeptical about his choices, so much so that they almost had a heart attack
when they learned that he had quit his job to venture off on his own. Dick got teary–eyed when he
told me that, and he shared what his father asked him a couple of years after successfully seeing his
company. His father asked him what Dick would have done if his business wouldn't have worked

Jimmy Savile Interview Analysis
INTERVIEW ANALYSIS The interview consisted of one participant. I have conducted a semi–
structure with this interview, detailing the representations of how CSA is portrayed by the media.
The interviewee was given four different media articles, majority of the media items focused on the
Jimmy Savile scandal and just a small mention of historic CSA: (Historical Child Abuse: Key
Investigations by the BBC, Sexual Abuse Inquiry: Investigation into Jimmy Savile's years of abuse
at the BBC delayed for a third time by the Independent, Jimmy Savile: Timeline of his sexual abuse
and its uncovering by the Guardian and Scotland Yard accuses the BBC of hampering its
investigations into historical child sexual abuse by the Telegraph). "I instantly feel a wave of dread

interviewee, a child victim is perceived as "young and naïve", and the media gathers images of

At our previous class period, we had to go through a practice interview. I am happy and thankful
that I did go through some interviews before in my life so I thought it was going to be a breeze, but I
was mistakened. What I did noticed was this, "You will never know what you're going to be
expecting at an interview." Even though it was just a project in class, I still took it serious. I chose
the job description as a bartender, so I took that role of trying to get hired for that job. My two
interviewers was Matt and Cory. We did go last and I thought it was going to be an easy going
process that I did noticed that everyone did go through. It was my turn to step up to the plate. I sat

Being A Transfer Student From The Uw Green Bay Essay
Being a transfer student from the UW–Green Bay, I honestly did not know what to expect from
UW–Whitewater's accounting program. The instant I heard that there was an internship program I
knew that I had to be a part of it. One of the main goals of going to college is to land a job after
graduation. The internship program seemed like the greatest way to get experience in the
accounting, while building a relationship with a firm that may lead to a full–time offer. From start to
finish the whole process was a lot of work, but in the end, I knew it would all be worth it. To sign up
for the internship program we were required to attend two mandatory meetings that would explain
the processes and requirements for the program. I was able to make it to the first meeting just fine,
but was unable to make it to the second meeting because of a scheduling conflict. Although I was
unable to attend the second meeting, Bill and I were able to schedule a new appointment so that I
could still be eligible to participate in the program. After joining the program, we were told that
multiple firms would be contacting us early in the summer to inform us of certain events they would
be holding that would allow us to get to know them better. When the summer came my inbox filled
up with numerous emails explaining the dates and time for certain firm visits and socials. I RSVP'd
to as many firm visits as I could, but some firm's dates conflicted with one another so I had to

The Pros And Cons Of The Camcorder/Skype Interview
The camcorder/Skype interview was bound to happen – and it's been happening faster and faster as
the world becomes smaller and smaller. Because we are able to reach out to others around the world
through social networking, electronic devices and instant communication – without leaving home or
the office it is not surprising that companies have latched on to this technique to conduct job
interviews.
Companies and agencies continue to be challenged to find ways of cutting costs, especially when it
comes to travel and entertainment. Interviewing long–distance is the perfect solution to slashing
thousands and thousands of dollars off of the corporate recruiting budget.
The latest trend in job interviews is to use the camcord/Skype technology to screen and interview
applicants. Companies are finding this new method to be a great way to save time as well as money
by conducting phone screenings before they bring the candidate in for a face–to–face interview –
and in some cases to conduct the full job interview over Skype. ... Show more content on

Coming into this task, I had never put forth any interest in the aging population. I knew this group

was a bit timid and afraid. This was my first time ever interviewing someone of this age with the

Anne Hathaway Interview Analysis
Many Filipino compared the interview of Anne Hathaway made by Manny Dela Rosa a.k.a Manny
the Movie Guy and by Ricky Lo of The Philippine Star, saying that Ricky Lo is worse when it
comes to asking questions than Manny, who integrates real 'entertainment' in interviewing
celebrities. Manny, who brings laughter to his interviewees, but on the other hand, Ricky Lo, who
has made a history in interviewing Anne Hathaway, which is considered, mostly by the netizens, as
'awkward' and 'irritating' because of the flow that Ricky Lo had made throughout the interview. In
Ricky Lo's Interview, some of his questions are deemed 'too personal' to Anne Hathaway. Making
the flow of the Interview as awkward as it gets, especially at the end of the video where Ricky Lo
asked Anne that if she would like to invite Filipino fans from the Philippines to her movie the "Les
Misérables", and it seems that he has somehow offended Anne by stating "Why don't you invite
them?.." It could be suggested that she is irritated to the way that he conducted the interview. ...

that happened with Ricky Lo but not with Manny, and if Ricky Lo's Interview should be considered

Difference Between Business Professional And Business...
Introduction
SCOPE
The purpose of this procedure manual is to adequately prepare an individual to successfully
complete an interview. This manual will provide some important background knowledge on the
interview process. It contains information on the difference between business professional and
business casual attires , the "do's" and "don'ts" of interview attire (supplemented by visuals), and the
different types of interviews. For clarity and consistency, the best way to use this manual is to read it
from beginning to end and to refer back to it to answer any remaining questions.
PURPOSE OF AN INTERVIEW
Interviews not only offer the employer valuable insight into a person's personality and abilities but
also allows you, the interviewee, to discern whether your credential and career goals match up with
what the company is seeking. Interviews also seek to accurately assess competency, fit and
motivation. On the employers standpoint interviews prevent good candidates from being improperly
assessed. Overall an interview plays a vital role when searching to fill a position with a qualified and
capable candidate.
Types of Interviews
1. Informational Interview
Interview where a potential job seeker seeks advice on their career, the industry, and the corporate
culture of a potential future workplace; while an employed professional learns about the job seeker

is an elementary school teacher, and one that is currently the head athletic director of a high school.

Graciously accepting, I had the chance to meet with a man named David Evans. He is the head

he does for his job daily. Mr. Evans stated that his job duties require him to set up gyms/fields for
certain games that night, tear down after the games, and also attend league and state Athletic
Director meetings that are held throughout the year. He also said he has to meet with officials and
coaches from other schools. Similar to the first interview, the rest of the time was spent mostly
discussing the aspects of the career and what kinds of personalities best suit this particular
occupation. The main aspect he mentioned was that a person must be organized and flexible with all
the changes that occur. "Officials cancel constantly and a person would need to have patience with
all of the changes." One of the most important factors that keep me interested in this career is the
fact I would get to be around sports and work with different directors as well. Despite my love of

Their pleasure!
Although the answer is not the best, the safety the "wall" has provided shows us that the idea of "the
sea" works.
The mural is only seen by the viewers as they see the interviewers and cannot be seen before that,
the only background for Spud is the bare wall, this suggests that he himself is stripped of ideas for
his answers to the questions he is presented with until the mural is seen by the viewers and he is
given ideas from the location he is in.
The characters are set up in a teacher to class style with the interviewers at the top of the room with
a large desk and Spud at the bottom. This could also be compared with a courtroom set–up, in both
cases the way the characters are placed suggests authority to a child. Spuds behaviour is childlike
also as we see later in the interview.
The props used in the scene also support the language used. For instance, because he is nervous,
Spud is using lists of three to fill his answers out, he does this because to list something is an empty
piece of evidence which Spud presents in the form of his intelligence. As a

The Three Phases Approach
Chapter 3: Methodology
3.1 Three Phases Approach
In order to bridge the gaps in past literature to achieve the objective of this paper, 2 main analysis
techniques were jointly applied: i) Delphi Technique ii) Opportunities, Threats and Uncertainty
Analysis.
The methodology was carried out in 3 phases. Phase 1 features the study of current trade patterns by
conducting a literature review in Chapter 2. Phase 2 features interview sessions with industry
professionals as part of the Delphi Technique. The final stage, Phase 3, is the analysis of the
interview results to determine the future outlook of Intra–Asia trade. The focus of the analysis is to
identify possible opportunities, threats and uncertainties of the trade.
3.1.1 Phase 1: Current Trade Patterns Analysis
In phase 1, the current trade patterns analysis has several main considerations namely: commodity
demand and supply, government policies, infrastructure and facility development. Past literatures,
market reports and industry data were used in this process to determine the trade patterns. Questions
were formulated accordingly to aid this paper in analysing the future outlook of the trade in Intra–
Asia. These questions were then used in interviews with industry professionals in the next phase.
3.1.2 Phase 2: Delphi Technique
The first technique is the Delphi Technique. According to (Heiko, 2008), the Delphi Technique
serves as an efficient group dynamic process with the aim of achieving a consensus among experts.

The Reading By Atkinson Provides Information On Using Life...
The reading by Atkinson provides information on using life stories approach in various disciplines.
By using life stories the researcher noted that we gain context and recognize meaning about
individuals experiences. There are four classic functions of stories including psychological, social,
mystical–religious and cosmological. The reading also highlighted some benefits of telling one's life
story. For instance, sharing one's story is a way of releasing certain burden and gives us a better
sense of how we want our story to end. The last part of the reading explained guidelines that will
prepare or get one ready to do an interview. The guidelines includes finding out who you want to
interview and learn more about. The last step is encouraging the individual to share their story by
being a good listener and asking open ended questions. The reading by Silverman discussed in–
depth information about open–ended interviews. There are several problems the interviewer must
resolve when doing open–ended questions such as deciding how to present yourself, gaining and
maintaining trust to ask sensitive question and establishing rapport with the respondents. The
reading also expressed many interactional practices when conducting qualitative interviewing. These
practices involves trying to interact with the person by understanding their experience and that
interviewers are active participants. The reading by Bernard also provided detailed information on

The Survey Method Of Choice For A Researcher
There are many situations that make conducting an interview the survey method of choice for a
researcher. The interview can be completed face–to–face, either individually or as part of a focus
group, or it can be completed by telephone. All of these methods allow a richer opportunity to gather
information in a more open–ended fashion, allowing the interviewer to take note of body language,
tone of voice, and other aesthetic aspects of the participant. Salant and Dillman (1994) recommend
face–to–face interview surveys when respondents are unlikely to respond willingly or accurately in
writing, when the questionnaire is complex, and when projects are well–funded and include
professional, experienced interviewers. Face–to–face interviews are generally preferred over
telephone interviews, since body language and other nuances can be more closely monitored. Ng
and Coakes (2014) point out that not all the data collected will be numerical, and contextual and
textual data can also be analyzed. Brace (2004) also makes note that being in the same room allows
the interviewer to use prompt cards and other visuals that would be inhibited over the phone. Focus
groups, on the other hand, allow the advantage of a face–to–face meeting while making good use of
time and cost by having several people in the room together. This setting helps weed out extreme
views, creates a forum for discussion and argument in a controlled setting, and can stimulate
opinions and ideas through a group

Mock Interview Research Paper

  • 1. Mock Interview Research Paper Overall my mock interview went better than I had initially anticipated it would be. The mock interview allowed me to find out about skills I did not know I had as well as skills I need to hone in order to use them to my benefit in interviews in the future. I have had previous experience doing interviews for jobs and scholarships and have even practiced my interviewing skills in high school. I believe it is essential in practicing as much as possible how to do an interview because there will always be a new skill that can be attained and new ways of formalizing an answer to fit the wants of the potential job or opportunity that may arise. It is important to know how to formalize an answer on the spot without sounding unsure of the answer the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This would allow me to look like I actually want the job or whatever I am being interviewed for. The most difficult questions for me to answer in a positive manner while connecting it to the purpose of the interview is talking about bad skill I have. I can list off so many yet I have to somehow make them sound positive. This is one thing I was unable to do in my mock interview and need to improve on so much. I remember answering that I am a very indecisive person whom tends to overthink things prior to making decisions which holds me back at times. The interviewer told me to keep my answer the way it is but to morph it in a way to sounds positive and beneficial to the interviewer. The interviewer told me that I could say that my indecisiveness and tendency to overthink things allows me to analyze possibilities and outcomes that may not have been thought of had I just made a quick decision. This was a moment of realization for me because I had never looked at my indecisiveness and overthinking as something convenient. A second thing I need to improve on is not taking long pauses before answering a question. I want to sound sure of what I am saying as well as confident in order to shield any little nervousness I may have. I do not want the interviewer to see me as someone that is unsure but as someone that knows what I am doing and what I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Problem Of Dealing With Biased Decision Making Employers regularly use job interviews as an integral part of the organization's selection and recruitment processes, yet when meeting someone for the first time, our initial judgments are often clouded by biases (Rockawin, 2012). The following essay will explore the problem of dealing with biased decision–making in job interviews which is defined as the cognitive biases which are flaws in judgments that occurs in particular situations as a result of flawed perception of incoming information. (Hua, 2011). The "employment interview is a social interaction where the interviewer and applicant exchange and process the information gathered from each other" (Macan, 2009) and due to this, biased decision–making is a significant problem because people often make decisions based on information and advice from outside sources (Luan, Sorkin, Itzkowitz, 2004). Poor hiring decisions may occur if decision–makers allow these biases to affect their impartial, professional judgments that could result in negative implications to the organisation (OPP, n.d.). The essay will propose two recommendations or interventions will be aimed at resolving this problem. The benefits and risks associated with each intervention will also be addressed. When strangers meet they are likely to form a reaction or deduce who they are with very limited information. This same situation can apply to both the interviewer and the interviewee when they meet for the first time in the job interview. Interviewers may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

No matter how the question is worded, take care to get your act together for it because it comes early in an interview – at the very time when an interviewer is forming an initial impression of you. A good beginning sets the stage for the halo effect to kick in. The halo effect happens when an interviewer is impressed with you right off the bat and may assume that if you excel in one area, you excel in others. When you start to tell about yourself, focus on aspects of your life that illustrate your value as a candidate for the position you seek. In addition to knowing you have competencies, skills, and experience related to the potential work, employers want to feel confident that you're the sort of person who: Can do the job Will do the job Gets along with others while doing the job Employers want to know how well you accept management direction. They want to know whether you have a history of slacking off as you get too comfortable on a job. They want to know whether – despite their lack of long–term commitment to you – you will jump ship at an inconvenient time if another employer dangles more money before your eyes. When answering the Tell Me About Yourself question, bear the following thought in mind:

  • 10. Comparing Two Interview Essay One man works in an office and the other works on the field. In my interview project I decided to look at two different job fields to compare the two while learning from each. Not only are jobs different, but also the people working them are and both come from two different backgrounds. The most important thing I learned out of the interviews was that no matter what job field you enter, hard work is required. My first interview was a man named Andrew Galasky who lives in phoenix, Arizona. Andrew or "Andy" is a Divorce case attorney who owns his own practice. When Andrew was a kid he had dreams of being a dentist, so in college he followed the dream until he had a science class. Andy couldn't get pass organic chemistry so he switched to law his second year of college at Arizona State University. He then graduated college and attended law school at ASU. After graduating Grad School Andy entered into a law firm eventually breaking off and creating his own. My second interview was with a retired NFL football player named Terry Battle. Terry also lives in Phoenix, Arizona but is originally from California. Coming out of high school, Terry received a full ride scholarship to Arizona State University to play football. Terry ... Andy said that his hours changed when he opened his own firm because he controlled when he worked. Terry said his family time stayed the same until he went into teaching. Agarwal and Tanniru conducted a field experiment to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of structured versus unstructured interviews, using both novice and experienced interviewers. The experiment was conducted to compare the efficiency and effectiveness of the cognitive interview with the standard information requirements interview. However, the experimental results did not indicate that structured interviews enhanced recall. This triggered the experiment using the Cognitive Interview. By random, a reference librarian was interviewed using either technique by an interviewer trained in both. The dependent variables: (1) the number of events elicited per each interview (efficiency), and (2) the degree of completeness of details recalled per event (effectiveness) were examined. Cognitive interview was found to be both more effective and more efficient than standard interviewing techniques in eliciting episodic knowledge from reference librarians. In order for the cognitive interview to be considered an effective interviewing technique, more than one rater must determine that the degree of completeness of details of the events collected under the CI are higher than those collected under the SI. All interviews were conducted in private rooms individually. The interviews were conducted at the institute of each patron. Ten students enrolled in a senior–level expert system class who received training on the SI and the CI during regularly scheduled class time. No one involved knew of the details of the experiment or the types of techniques being tested. Interviewers received course credit and monetary compensation for their participation. Techniques to Improve Recruiting and Interviewing Practises by Managers Recruitment and selection have always been critical processes for organisations. In recent years, there has been growing evidence that the formation of positive psychological contract with employees provides the basis for a positive outcome in terms of organisational commitment and motivation. Recruitment and selection are vital stages in the formation of the expectations that form such a contract, on which, with an emphasis on a two way flow of communication, employees select an organisation and the work on offer as much as employers select employees. Approaches to the recruitment and selection of employees forming the secondary internal market could be subject to less screening at the point of entry , attention being paid mainly to possession of the required skills. Such employees might be recruited and selected by cheaper methods but still perhaps, with a connection to organisational strategy via the specification of competencies. Giving the findings relating to studies of workers on fixed term contracts and the emphasis given by some workers to work–life balance, it would seem, however, that the crucial feature of a positive physiological contract is the use of progressive HR practices whatever the employment contract, and this will include attention to effective recruitment and selection practises. Once again, employers do not have a choice relating to the practises they adopt. Newell and Shackle ton (2000) refer to recruitment as the 'process of attracting people who might make a contribution to the particular organization'. Within this statement, we can highlight two crucial issues. First, there is a need to attract people, this implying that people do have a choice about which organisations they wish to work for. Secondly, the contribution that people will make to an organisation is not totally predictable. Recruitment and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Pros And Cons Of Oral History Oral history has been a vital source of historical and important information since the beginning of human interaction. Recordings and one on one interviews with someone who lived through a certain time period or particular event can often provide a substantial amount of information and evidences on a subject that one may be researching. Unfortunately oral history does has its flaws, and it does not always provide the best source of information. Often information from direct interviews and other forms of oral history can be misinterpreted and inaccurate. There are quite a few pros and cons when using oral history as a source of evidence. These pros includes first–hand accounts of a certain event, person, and/or time period, next access to information not available in books, articles, or journals, and finally oral history allows for different views and opinions on a subject matter the opportunity to be heard that otherwise wouldn't. There also are several cons when using oral history as a source of evidence. As mention earlier information from oral history can and has often been misinterpreted and inaccurate. Another con includes biases and ideology differences effecting personal accounts of an event or person. The final con is the creditability of the actually source. In the Hochschild book and the interview with Stalin's daughter, these pros and cons are present. Having a first–hand account of a historical event or person can be extremely useful. • 28. Phone Interview With Mrs. Abrams On Monday, March 20th, I conducted a phone interview with Mrs. Abrams, which lasted approximately half an hour. Even though the calling experience is smooth, I found it more difficult to connect with the interviewee and see how she is responding to my questions. I called her on speakerphone and recorded it on my laptop, but the recording is not very clear. I will figure out a better way to record interviews for next time. Overall, the interview went well, and I was able to ask most of my questions. Some of my questions are too long. My interviewee would start answering it before I finish the whole sentence, but I was able to address the second part of my question after she answered. There are several overlapping questions. She often visits the artist's studio to make sure his or her practice is something she wants to share with the audience. I expected a non–collecting contemporary art museum would often present the newest work, but according to Mrs. Abrams, that is not always the case: "Presenting new material is something we do, but it is not the only thing we do". For instance, one of the current exhibitions, Basquiat: East 12th Street, 1979–1980, contains all historical material. During the showing of an exhibition, Mrs. Abrams often meets with the press as a way to reach out and encourage more people to come, and organizes programs and events in order to better engage the audience. In this coming April, she organized a three–day program for the Basquiat exhibition, including film showing, panel discussion, and a cocktail party at the end. • 30. Who Followed Proper Interview Techniques 1. Describe the elements of an effective interview and indicate if this interview followed proper interview techniques. An effective interview starts by building rapport with the interviewee to make him or her feel comfortable. While doing that, the interviewer should ask simple questions, such as name, date of birth, and occupation, to obtain a baseline of how the interviewee reacts non–verbally. This baseline assessment is then used to gauge the interviewee's reaction to more difficult questions about the issues being investigated to assess the veracity of the interviewee's statements. The interview in the video does follow the steps for an effective interview. Collins and Reynolds start out with some simple questions to make DeMarco comfortable, and were able to find some common ground with DeMarco as part of their baseline assessment. This allowed Collins and Reynolds to note the changes in DeMarco's mannerisms as the questions became more difficult and pointed as the interview continued. Also, ... Situational interviews consist of questions asked to respond to a specific situation one might face in the workplace environment (Ellis, 2016). These types of questions or scenarios are designed to reveal the candidate's analytical and problem–solving skill sets, as well as how they would handle an unexpected situation. Experience–based interviews evaluate past behaviors that are associated to the prospective job (Ellis, 2016). Discrimination and Bias in the Interview Process and the Resulting Effects on Employee Selection Alicia Crews Fayetteville State University Abstract Discrimination and bias in employee selection was measured by assessing whether interviewers would select the same candidate from a blind interview versus a traditional in–person interview. For the study, interviewers were paired with results from blind interviews and then were required to interview the same employee candidate in an in–person interview. Data was collected regarding the rate of hiring for the blind interview and the in–person interview. Data suggested that discrimination and bias were present when making selections based on the in–person interviews. Interviewers selected the same candidate based on the in–person interview as the blind interview at the rate of 15% suggesting the interviewer's conscious or unconscious biases played a key role in employee selection. The employment interview is commonplace in all organizations during the hiring process. Interviewers are required to select candidates for hire based on provided information from the candidate including resumes, job applications, and interviews. Essay on Interviewing Techniques Interviewing Techniques The Interrogation Interview Interviewing Techniques, The Interrogation Interview Introduction We are going to look at the use of interviewing techniques by those who investigate. As a result of interviews conducted after accidents and criminal offenses, the interviewer must be able to analyze witness statements in order to translate witness observations into facts and create logic from confusion. The interviewer must have an understanding of those factors that affect witness reporting. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the initial stage of the interview, it is important to listen and not evaluate or pass judgment. Skipping over seemingly routine questions may cause you to miss a point that may later prove to be helpful. Also, you may pass premature judgment as to the cause and guide the witness in the wrong direction. If you can anticipate the witnesses' next point you can often phrase a question to guide them in a certain direction, or to bring out information previously not given. This skill takes a lot of forethought on the part of the interviewer. Arranging the Interview If you must conduct an interview on–scene it is best to interview the witnesses separately and away from each other. At the initial stages of the interview immediately following the incident, group interviews should be avoided. Generally, a group interview results in one or two people doing the talking and the others concurring, even if they don't agree with what is being said. It is important that the witness understand who you are, whom you represent, and what it is you are trying to find out. Witnesses should be approached in a positive manner and you should approach them with the attitude that they will be willing to talk. "You don't want to talk to me, do you?" will almost certainly elicit a negative response. " I would like to talk to you about what happened here" will generally put the witness in a more cooperative state. Make the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Mistakes That Can Ruin One 's Interview In this paper I describe mistakes that can ruin one's interview for a job in person. Interviews can make or break a relationship. Interviews are the first impressions of someone before they are accepted or denied. As being the interviewee, one must do research on the company, dress formally, talk without any slang, and especially not be late to the interview. After reading this paper, one should be successful in any interview. The first credible source I found that was helpful was LifeHack.org. LifeHack is one of the top 10,000 most visited sites in the world. This site was made for college students and was founded by Lean Ho at Hack College. On this site, it describes 5 most common mistakes during, and before the interview. One common mistake is the wardrobe. Even if it's summer and blazing hot, that is not an excuse for not being properly attired, this means an interviewee may not wear short. LifeHack studies say that in the first 7 to 17 seconds, that's the first impression. If not properly attired, one can be disqualified before open their mouth. The next common mistake is being late. A good saying is, "If you're not 5 mins early, you're 10 mins late". Showing up late can have one immediately dismissed. One suggestion LifeHack makes is if you feel like the interview is too far away from you, suggest to the interviewer to doing an online interview. In social science research, research methods are an essential part of any project because they determine its validity, reliability and success. For qualitative researchers, interviewing is the most widely employed means for generating information (Holstein & Gubrium, 2004). It is claimed by Cohen (et al., 2007) that interviewing is valuable because it not only reports detailed views of interviewees, but also enables participants to speak in their own voice and express their own feelings and experiences (Berg, 2007). However, qualitative methods, especially interviewing, differ from quantitative approaches that many practical and ethical issues might arise in the process of interviews. Although the literature provides words of advice and caution on conducting qualitative interviews, only engaging in the interview could make people realize they made mistakes that limited the voice of their participants in favor of their own. In this article, I will describe the successes and barriers that arose upon reflection of my initial interviewing experience. As a novice, my analysis will focus more on the difficulties and mistakes because this might be more insightful and helpful to my development. The mural is only seen by the viewers as they see the interviewers and cannot be seen before that, the only background for Spud is the bare wall, this suggests that he himself is stripped of ideas for his answers to the questions he is presented with until the mural is seen by the viewers and he is given ideas from the location he is in. The characters are set up in a teacher to class style with the interviewers at the top of the room with a large desk and Spud at the bottom. This could also be compared with a courtroom set–up, in both cases the way the characters are placed suggests authority to a child. Spuds behaviour is childlike also as we see later in the interview. The props used in the scene also support the language used. For instance, because he is nervous, Spud is using lists of three to fill his answers out, he does this because to list something is an empty piece of evidence which Spud presents in the form of his intelligence. The Three Phases Approach Chapter 3: Methodology 3.1 Three Phases Approach In order to bridge the gaps in past literature to achieve the objective of this paper, 2 main analysis techniques were jointly applied: i) Delphi Technique ii) Opportunities, Threats and Uncertainty Analysis. The methodology was carried out in 3 phases. Phase 1 features the study of current trade patterns by conducting a literature review in Chapter 2. Phase 2 features interview sessions with industry professionals as part of the Delphi Technique. The final stage, Phase 3, is the analysis of the interview results to determine the future outlook of Intra–Asia trade. The focus of the analysis is to identify possible opportunities, threats and uncertainties of the trade. 3.1.1 Phase 1: Current Trade Patterns Analysis In phase 1, the current trade patterns analysis has several main considerations namely: commodity demand and supply, government policies, infrastructure and facility development. • 79. The Survey Method Of Choice For A Researcher There are many situations that make conducting an interview the survey method of choice for a researcher. The interview can be completed face–to–face, either individually or as part of a focus group, or it can be completed by telephone. All of these methods allow a richer opportunity to gather information in a more open–ended fashion, allowing the interviewer to take note of body language, tone of voice, and other aesthetic aspects of the participant. Salant and Dillman (1994) recommend face–to–face interview surveys when respondents are unlikely to respond willingly or accurately in writing, when the questionnaire is complex, and when projects are well–funded and include professional, experienced interviewers. Face–to–face interviews are generally preferred over telephone interviews, since body language and other nuances can be more closely monitored. Ng and Coakes (2014) point out that not all the data collected will be numerical, and contextual and textual data can also be analyzed. Brace (2004) also makes note that being in the same room allows the interviewer to use prompt cards and other visuals that would be inhibited over the phone. Focus groups, on the other hand, allow the advantage of a face–to–face meeting while making good use of time and cost by having several people in the room together. This setting helps weed out extreme views, creates a forum for discussion and argument in a controlled setting, and can stimulate opinions and ideas through a group ... Coming into this course I assumed that deciding who to interview would be a challenging task. However one of the individuals who came through the treatment center I worked was more than willing to share his life with me for this assignment. The individual, who i will be referring to as Sam throughout this paper, felt as though his substance abuse past would make a very interesting read. Sam is a caucasian male and 27 years old. Sam ...
