The Power Of Teacher
The Power of Teacher For some students finding a good teacher happens on a rare occasion.
Throughout the years I was going to school from elementary to now in my second year in college. I
have meet all kinds of teachers. There are those who are good and some are bad. I call them "poor
quality teacher" because they are the ones who accept poor quality of work. These teachers typically
allow students to just pass the class without putting hard work into it. Also poor quality teacher put
in less "teaching" so as a result most students they teach who advance to a higher course find it very
difficult to pass the next class they are taking. Fortunately, I happened to meet a good quality
teacher. It was the beginning of spring 2016 I was now taking a prerequisite for one of my nursing
class. The class I was taking was called "Human Physiology". At first I didn't really know how the
class would go. What I heard from the previous students who took him said not to take him because
he wasn't a good teacher. It turns out the instructor I was taking for human physiology name Mr.
Smarty, was one the best teacher I've come across throughout the years I've been in school.
Although he was dub by most of the students who previously took him as a bad teacher. I find Mr.
Smarty to be a good teacher because he was respectful, inspiring and creative. Mr.Smarty was a very
respectful teacher. I like how he treats his student. He respect us even though the grade we received
in his class is very

The Importance Of The Tenure System In Education
The best teachers bring out their students' knowledge. A good teacher makes students more
interested in their lectures. However, these teachers sometimes get fired because they are hired later
than the other teachers who have been working for a longer period of time. This is due to the Tenure
System that keeps teachers from being fired when they teach at a school for a certain amount of
time. Therefore, should the tenure system in public schools be eliminated? Some argue that tenure
protects teachers from unfair dismissal; for instance, when teaching unpopular ideas. Also, it would
be unfair to fire teachers in order to save expense, due to the fact that older teachers get paid more
because of their experience. Other people agree that the tenure system in public schools should be
eliminated to keep teachers working hard to improve their knowledge, teaching skills, and
responsiveness. In order to improve the quality of the education, performance should be more
important than length of service; therefore, the tenure system in public schools should be eliminated.
The tenure system should be eliminated to protect the best teachers. There are many circumstances
that allow ineffective teachers to be kept at the schools because of the tenure system. For example,
many teachers cannot explain concepts clearly or give wrong information to their students while
they are giving their lectures in the classroom, but they are still teaching at the school.
Consequently, according to Jason

The Effect Of Sleep On Undergraduate Academic Performance
The Effect of Sleep on Undergraduate Academic Performance There are only a few needs of humans
that are essential for survival. These include food, water, oxygen, and sleep (Gilbert & Weaver,
2010). A lack of any of these fundamental needs can be detrimental to human functioning (Orzel–
Gryglewska, 2010). The effects of sleep deprivation are numerous. Without sleep humans can be
irritable, distracted, forgetful, and even experience hallucinations. There are even diseases
associated with continual sleep deficiency such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes
(Orzel–Gryglewska, 2010). In more recent studies, it has been hypothesized that sleep has a
profound effect on learning (Roth, 2008). Information learned in the day is processed and
consolidated during sleep at night. It was also discovered that sleep is required for memory
construction the following day (Roth, 2008). For these reasons, sleep in a very important for college
students. This group of individuals' main job is to learn new information. Even though sleep is very
important for college students, this group of individuals has one of the highest rates of sleep
deprivation compared to any other age group (Lund, Reider, Whiting, & Prichard, 2010). Many
students have trouble getting an adequate amount of sleep due to their course load, extracurricular
activities, work, and social activities (Engle–Friedman & Riela, 2004). Some of these busy students
then stay up the night before an assignment is due to

The Study of Rhetoric Essay
The Study of Rhetoric
Works Cited Missing
"The study of rhetoric traditionally has aimed to equip students with an ability to identify problems
and issues, to investigate, to interpret, and to communicate results –– whatever the subject matter.
These abilities require higher–level thinking, not just skills; analysis and evaluation, not just
observation . . . . The study emphasizes strategies and practice rather than a body of facts and
contemplation; thus the study of rhetoric aims for social application. Students are studying rhetoric
in a technical communication course even though they may never hear of Aristotle nor study history
and theory of rhetoric. Identifying a problem, gathering, interpreting, and arranging information, ...

Because definitions are a product of rigid, formal thinking, quality cannot be defined."
(ZMM –– Pirsig 206)
Pirsig, a theorist as well as a rhetorician would see the approach as the right idea. Students should be
faced with challenges that require demonstration of understanding as well as some demonstration of
quality. I know that stating Pirsig feels students need to demonstrate some effort towards quality is
reaching, but I think that is what he is truly looking for students (his in particular) to be able to
understand and demonstrate. I feel that this is what you are trying to establish with us as students in
your class as well.
Flaws are found in this methodology of education, Pirsig sees that students need to be taught Quality
but, "...how are you to teach something that isn't premeditated? It was a seemingly impossible
requirement." (Pirsig 176) Struggling with this concept leads one to believe that students must
develop a sense of Quality based on what they feel. There is no prescriptive method to teach
students to produce Quality. Pirsig's major problem with this whole concept is that he does not have
a true understanding of Quality, and rightfully so. How is one supposed to determine Quality?
Here's how Pirsig (in my eyes) might respond to Carolyn Rude; students should be introduced to
methodology in order to make valid attempts but the "answers" are to be derived from students
applying effort to a goal,

EDDDE 1001: Introduction to Learning and Teaching
Assessment Task 2: Scholarly Essay (1500 words)
Noel Bamford

Topic:
What constitutes a 'good ' effective teacher? Discuss with reference to the literature.
Teacher quality and education standards are an issue that is under constant scrutiny in Australia, and
in many countries around the world. There are many factors that contribute to a good quality
educational system. Curriculum, government funding, school administration, and pressures of public
opinion to name a few. Teachers themselves however, are the front line when it comes to education.
The teachers in the classroom are ultimately the people whose job it is to ensure that students
actually gain the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Early studies found that 'progressive ' teachers attained lower gains in student achievement than
teachers with a 'traditional ' approach. (Muijs, 2004). However, the same study noted that teachers
who displayed 'structured, consistent progressivism ' achieved the best student outcomes (Muijs,
2004). Collins dictionary defines 'progressivism ' as "an educational system that allows flexibility in
learning procedures, based on activities determined by the needs and capacities of the individual
child". (Collins Dictionary, 2014). Several more British studies were conducted in the late 1980s,
such as the ORACLE study in 1988 and a study by Peter Mortimore and his colleagues around the
same time. These studies found that teachers who devoted more time to engaging in whole class
interaction and guided small group interaction, achieved significantly higher gains than teachers
who spent a lot of time with individual pupils (Muijs, 2004). This and other research appear to point
towards a specific set of skills and attitudes that constitutes an effective teacher.
One skill that is proven to be essential for teaching is preparation and time management. Time is an
essential aspect of teaching and learning. Time spent preparing class material, time spent planning
class structure, even the management of time during the class are all important factors of effective
teaching. Goldberg (2003) writes "By investing time–to prepare for class, to go over student work,

This essay will show different sleep interventions that have been used among one of the most sleep
deprived generations, college students. An intervention is a way to improve health and quality of life
through prevention and treatment of disease and other physical and mental health conditions. 7 out
of every 10 college students say that they get fewer than the suggested amount of sleep each night.
While many students aren't sleeping enough either, 68% of those student's state that they have
trouble falling asleep at night because of stress. Sleep plays a very important role in your physical
and mental health, as well as your day to day life. Lack of sleep has many physical effects, such as
kidney disease, diabetes, heart disease, stroke and high blood pressure. Mental effects such as
depression, bipolar and anxiety disorders and ADHD quite frequently occur. College students live
very busy and stressful lives. Such as handling one or two jobs, going through school itself, working
out, living in noisy environments and maintaining a social life. With better time management, these
students would be able to avoid potential life threatening diseases. There are many different
interventions that have been used to benefit college students and their sleep, this essay will cover
two interventions.
Intervention Strategy 1: Sleep Hygiene and Sleep Quality
Sleep hygiene refers to sleep practices, habits and environmental influences that are necessary for

20th and 21st Century Classroom Management Pioneers Essay
Slide 2 William Glasser is one of the greatest educational thinkers during the 20th and 21st Century.
He contends that student behavior will not improve until educators and administrators change the
way they work with students. Trying to force students to learn behavior responsibly is hopeless
because it is contrary to their natural inclinations. Glasser believes all human behavior is purposeful.
We can not blame anyone else but ourselves for good or improper behavior. He believes that
students are satisfied with doing low–quality school work and unwilling to make an effort to learn.
Glasser states schools will not improve until they accomplish three things: 1. Provide a curriculum
that is attractive to students. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main discipline problems are not defiance and disruption but overwhelming apathy, resignation,
and unwillingness to participate in class activities. We must stop teaching to meet testing
requirements because the schoolwork is boring and fragmented. We must develop strategies that
improve teaching, learning, and behavior management by moving to quality teaching and choice
theories. In order to improve the quality of education, Glasser is adamant we give priority to
student's five basic needs. Failure to address these needs and the school is bound to fail. These five
basic needs are: 1. Security – Student survival needs are met when the schools provide an
environment that is kept safe and free from personal threats. 2. Belonging – When students receive
the appropriate attention from their teachers, along with other students while actively participating
in class they feel a sense of belonging. 3. Power – Teachers that engage students and actively
encourage student participation in making decisions about classroom procedures, topics for study or
discussion and/or assigns them classroom responsibilities, they sense power. 4. Fun – When teachers
allow students to work and talk with others, engage in interesting activities and share their
accomplishments they perceive their experience as fun. 5.

Article Review: Classroom Discourse And Student Learning
INTRODUCTION The title of this article is Classroom Discourse and Student Learning. This article
is written by Yani Zhang from Qingdao University of Science and Technology, China in 2008. This
article consists of three pages long. Generally, this article talks about how classroom discourse and
student learning interact with one another. The author quoted Daniels (2001 cited in Alexander,
2004:8) that classroom talk not only mediates teaching and learning but the wider culture. The
author also quoted Barnes (1992:124) that learning is not simply adding bits of information to the
previous knowledge but it is a matter of "working on understanding." It means that the author
believes talking should play a vital role in the meaningful learning process. Hence, the author
suggested a few techniques on how to promote the quality of classroom talk and further facilitate
student learning. The aim of this written article is to discuss whether student learning is related to
the quality of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The subtopics are bolded so that readers would take note how the flow of the article goes. Basically,
it is a compact and straightforward article so that readers would reach their understanding about the
relationship between classroom discourse and student learning. The author's purpose and intention
throughout the article is to discuss the interrelation between classroom discourse and student
learning. The author believes that the quality of student learning is closely corresponding with the
quality of classroom discourse. Thus, the author mentioned four steps of techniques which are
linked to this topic. The techniques are as followed: i. Correlation between language and learning ii.
Varieties of classroom discourse iii. Nature of discourse

America Is Still on Top
Analyzing the Article "America, Still on Top" American universities currently do a better job overall
at preparing students for the society. Vartan Gregorian in his article "America, Still on Top", declares
that one of the great strengths of U.S. higher education is that it grew by "informal design". He
mentions the 1862 Morrill act, which the states were able to found colleges by using federal lands.
Also states created universities, junior city and county colleges. In this article Gregorian compare
the universities in America with some countries especially China. He talks about the private
universities in some countries and discusses the reason that they are not as successful as American's
Universities. Also he talks about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In some countries all the students cannot enter universities because there are not enough
universities, but they are willing to continue their education. So some low–quality universities are
built up that Gregorian names them as "universities only in name". He brings an example of these
kinds of private universities in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh. Also in these kinds of
universities some people just want to consider as a student and get a degree and probably get a good
job in the future. They enroll in these universities that have poor quality. This is a really good
argument that he mentioned. This shows the difference in quality between the universities in
America and other countries. Paying good salaries to the professors in the U.S can have a positive
effect on the quality of the universities in America, but it is not everything. Gregurian claims that:
"Faculty is also an issue: In many countries, professors are poorly paid and institutions rely on
temporary adjuncts, lectures and part– timers". This is a good point. When the institutions in other
countries rely on temporary staff, the quality of education will decrease compare to schools in
America that do not have these kinds of problems. Again he does not mention the name of the
country and school. He does not have ethics in his writing. He brings good examples, but they are
not credible. I agree that teachers, who get good salaries, work better

Should There Be A Reform? The Education System?
Should there be a reform in the education system? Yes there should be, there are so many problems
and complications that are wrong with the education system. For instance, not all of the teacher 's
are qualified to teach. The administrators hiring educators are another problem with the education
system. In some cases even the discipline at certain schools are yearning for reform moreover.
Reforms and changes must be made in education, some of the rules are unfair and outdated.
Teachers are one of the major problems of the education system. They are crucial to the student 's
performance and their learning process. The Department of Education has found that " teachers are
the most important factor in determining student achievement."(U.S. Department of Education) This
is true, since teachers are the ones that teach students the academics that they will need in the future.
It 's the teacher 's responsibility to get their students ready with the material that they will need.
Correspondingly teachers are clearly one of the greatest factors in the quality of education received
by students.
Although there are many factors that impact a student 's education, the greatest factor is teachers.
They are the ones that are educating students. "The quality of the nation 's teachers has a tremendous
impact on the overall quality of education that students receive."(U.S. Department of
Education) If the teachers are of inferior quality than the education that a student receives will be of

reasons why I think studying in local universities is better than studying abroad
Furthermore, local universities are as good as universities abroad. Nowadays, students from outside
countries also come here to study in local universities. That means that they trust our local
universities which have a good quality system of education. This shows that studying locally is a
right choice for our future. Besides that, our system of education is also acknowledged
internationally, that is why students from other countries are studying in our local universities. We
cannot deny that the quality of education in local universities is also as good as the universities

William Glasser was a philosopher. He was the author of numerous books, all of which he lived by.
He did not write a theory that he did not support wholeheartedly and he often sought his wife's
opinion when it came to the book ideas he had. He loved to travel. He traveled the world speaking to
people about his choice theory and his quality world. The most special places to him were Australia,
Japan, and Korea. Although he was able to speak to hundreds of people at one time, he was very

The discipline model that William Glasser had was the choice theory. As mentioned above, this

with a bad thought. He believed that most people viewed the word control negatively. Therefore, he
got the idea to change it one day at three in the morning. He announced the change soon after his
epiphany, during a speech in Australia and he was immediately met with applause. Because of this,
it has remained choice theory. (Glasser, C)
Glasser lived by the idea of choice theory. He even based his marriage around it.He believed that
you get what you put into any situation. If you put good in, then you will receive good. There are
four main points to choice theory. The first is love and marriage. The second, trust and your family.
Third is schooling, education, and quality schools. Last is choice theory in the workplace.

Student Loan Debt And Consumer Choice
Student Loan Debt and Consumer Choice In today's society, student loans are haunting the lives of
millions of postgraduates all over the United States. Students who have carelessly taken out loans
and those in serious need of financial aid for their college education are now burdened with
thousands of dollars worth of debt. As the student debt average continues to increase in our nation,
the budgets of postgraduates begin to dwindle and the amount of defaults grow dramatically. With
the large student debts our young adults are now dealt with, recent graduates are forced to
compromise certain aspects of their quality and standard of living after graduation. Our nation's
recent graduate's budgets are being directly affected by the student loan debt and interest accrued
during and after their college careers. Student loans are a form of financial aid given by federal and
private organizations designed to help fund the student's tuition, housing, books, and other expenses.
Student loans are primarily given to those who are in most need of financial assistance. The interest
rates that accompany these loans are relatively lower than those of credit cards, housing and auto
loans, because these loans were meant to be quickly and easily paid off. With federal interest rates
fixed at as low as five percent and private loan interest rates decreasing, it comes to question: why is
the amount of student loan debt in our nation increasing so rapidly? And with the amount of student

affects the grade. This is why completing assignments is important. Participation in a class setting
will improve a student's grades because getting involved in the class discussions will help to
understand the subject better. Some teachers even grade on participation, which can be an easy "A".
The next quality of becoming a good student is the type of behavior you must show. Being
respectful in the classroom is important because if a student is sent out for

Homework Is Too Much Homework
The debate regarding exactly how much homework is too much homework has been an ongoing
debate for years. As of right now, there seems to be no end in sight for this debate. Various adults
believe that if children do not obtain homework, then they are not learning properly. However,
numerous children are obtaining a substantial amount of homework per night, as well as per each
class. Once a child exceeds a certain amount of homework, then it is no longer beneficial for the
child's education. An excessive amount of homework can essentially become harmful to the child's
education. As a result, teachers are struggling with finding the right amount of homework to assign
to students. The National Education Association as well as the National Parent–Teacher Association
endorse the "10–minute rule" for teachers to follow when assigning homework to students. If a child
is assigned an excessive amount of homework, then the child might experience more harm than
good when attempting to complete the assigned homework. The National Education Association as
well as the National Parent–Teacher Association strongly advocate for the "10–minute rule" when it
comes to the amount of homework that a child should be assigned. The 10–minute rule is a
guideline for teachers when assigning homework to students. When following the 10–minute rule,
teachers should assign ten minutes of homework per grade level of the student for each night.
Therefore, first graders should obtain no more than ten

Howard Gardner 's Theory Of Multiple Intelligences
I first want to say that my perspective and answers are influenced by my belief in Howard Gardner's
Theory of Multiple Intelligences. Intelligence and ability are not one linear scale. They are both
complex. 1. What is the biggest indicator of instructional quality within the classroom? Students are
able to perform tasks that are related to the class's standards. Computer graded test can only give
you feedback on low level cognitive abilities. That is my I use projects much more then tests and
worksheets in my class. If they can complete a high quality project, they understand the skills. (If
they can help others complete the project they're even better.) 2. What type of data do you trust most
when considering whether a student has learned? The data I most trust in my observations of my
students and observation of their work followed closely by my conversation with my students. I
teach CTE classes and my classes are all primarily in the psychometric domain (what the students
can do.) There is some objectives in the cognitive domain (mostly safety and identification), but it is
almost always secondary to what they can do. Because of this, written test do not work well for most
of my class. They can be good for the low level cognitive, but they are ineffective for performance
based tasks. In a project based class, I can look at the work the students produce and it tells me a lot
about what skills they have mastered and what needs more work. The same goes for my

Public Schools And The Community
Education Essay
Public Schools and the Community play a key role in providing students with a "quality" education
by working together. Quality can be applicable to any trait, good or bad. Public Schools are known
be to free, fair to all, and a welcoming place for any person to attend. Being a student in public
schools all my life, none of these things are true. In fact, public schools can be expensive, exhibit
unjust favoritism, and for some students, the bane of their existence through bullying from students,
and pressure from parents and teachers. Though I am extremely grateful for what I've received in
publics schools, the knowledge I've been given, the friends I've met, and the feeling of
overwhelming support from the whole school, the community and the public schools system, school
systems in general, have played a key role in providing me with a quality education, the wrongful
parenting, unfair representation in grading, and a profound lack of effort coming from students all
take a tear at my "quality" education. To me, quality means the bare minimum, the thing that
everyone needs to receive. I don't attend school to be placed in a class that is difficult for me, but I
try my very hardest, and is placed with delinquents that refuse to participate and are a disruption to
my quality education. These are the things that I see every day, whether I am at home or at school, I
can visualize the essence and characteristics of someone who attends a public school, and how we

Sleep Quality And Academic Performance
Sleep Quality Affecting College Student's Academic Performance
Sleep is one of the few necessities that are needed for humans to function and overall survive.
People, generally adults, fail to realize the need for sleep when they are constantly working around
the clock. This sort of deficiency leads to a common sleep disorder called sleep deprivation. Sleep
deprivation can affect teens and working adults but is seen predominately among college students.
College students are succumbed to dedicating long hours to school, which makes their sleeping
schedule awry. The article "Sleep Quality and Academic Performance in University Student..."goes
into depth about the consequences of sleep deprivation. The article explains the consequences
through a hypothesis, the process and the results. Students entering into college are faced with a new
routine of daily life. Students fundamentally alter their sleep schedule in order to keep up and finish
their schoolwork. Although students see the more time used to do school work is more efficient than
sleeping, it can cause many misfortunes. According to the research done by Gilbert and Weaver
(2010) "It was hypothesized that participant who had higher levels of sleep deprivation and poorer
sleep quality would have lower academic performance (as indicated by grade point average [GPA]
and course incompletions–drops, withdrawals, and incompletes) than participants with little sleep
deprivation and good sleep quality." (p.298). The

(Malhotra, 2007)
Our primary focus here lies in determining the effectiveness and awareness of the currently existing
communications network at Middlesex University and to also gain an insight on the preferences and
attitudes of the students regarding the same.
Research designs can be broadly labeled as exploratory, descriptive or causal. For achieving the
desired answers to our current problem, exploratory research was chosen. Exploratory research
designs are ones characterized by a flexible and evolving approach to understand marketing
phenomena that are inherently difficult to measure. (Malhotra 2007)
Some of the reasons for choosing this mode of research are; * Exploratory research is optimum for
indentifying and exploring concepts in development of products or in forms of marketing
communications; a primary objective for Middlesex University. * As stated by Malhotra(2007), its
vital to develop an understanding of the structure of beliefs and attitudes in order to aid the
interpretation of data structures which goes to invest in another primary objective; that of
understanding the student's attitudes and preferences to Middlesex University's communications
systems. * Mainly, to explore the reasons behind vivid statistical differences between different
demographic groups.

Student Expectations Of Service Quality
Student' expectations of service quality in the university hostel
Data was analyzed by quantifying respondents' responses of their levels of agreement with the
statements that were used to evaluate students' expectations of service quality at university hostels
and perceptions of service quality at dining rooms. The levels of service quality expectations and
perceptions were quantified by calculating the average scores on each statement. Scores obtained
from calculating the averages for expectations were subtracted from the scores obtained from
customers' perceptions on each statement.
The findings of the study present very important insights in relation to the paper's problem statement
that "student's expectation is generally anticipated to be in line with the acceptable levels of service
quality in the university hostels. The results revealed that students had higher expectation levels
compared to their perceptions of the service quality at the dining rooms on all the service attribute
that were used to evaluate the expectations of service quality. Thus, the gap identified was the Gap
between Expected Service–Perceived Service Gap. This Gap presents a challenge for hostels
managers, which is ensuring that good quality provided meets or exceeds student' expectations.
The average expectations scores were consistently around 1, where 1 on the five point scale used in
the questionnaire indicated a strongly agree response. According to Cook (2002), consumers have

The Roots Of Physician Well Being
"The roots of physician well–being are formed early. While medical school lays a firm foundation
for the essential knowledge physicians must posses, it should also inculcate and promote the ideal
characteristics of compassion, integrity, empathy, professionalism, and commitment to service and
life long learning."1 Doctors are people of great power, but with great power comes great
responsibility. Such responsibilities and certain qualities that medical students must present are
outlined by a major regulating body of medical health in the UK generally known as the General
Medical Council (GMC) as evident in both of their reports "Good Medical Practice"2 and "Medical
Students: Professionalism and Fitness to Practice"3 respectively. Such reports are available for
medical educators, students, doctors, as well as the general public. Of the numerous qualities that
must be presented, acting with Probity, Resilience, and Conscientiousness are three main features I
will be discussing in this essay. Probity One of the prime qualities doctors and medical students
should particularly abide by is probity, "the quality of having strong moral principles; honest and
decency", as defined by the Oxford Dictionary4. The GMC defines probity as being honest,
trustworthy, and acting with integrity2. To supplement this in an interaction–based context with the
patient, an Oxford Journal paper suggests that trust is fundamental in a good patient–doctor
relationship5. In practical application of

High Quality Of Education And Education
In today days as the world continuous to growth, the population is increasing in gigantic amounts.
As the world continues growing the demand and need of human's production are more, demanding
more production and in high quality. In order to produce more and with good quality, more people
have to be well prepared with a good education. To prepare a person to achieve a professional level
in society it begins from the education obtained in their lives; the education goes with the hand of a
good design and good condition of an educational facility, which has a significant impact on the
quality of education and a student's ability to learn. Personally, based on my experience the design
and condition of the educational facility where I attended contributed in my education in a positive
way. My education was composed of a well–designed school, with good learning conditions, but
with some defects that could be changed or implemented for a better quality of education.
To begin with, a well–designed structure gives a person a feeling of confidence and a taste of
wellness. The High School that I attended was well designed, given a sensation of satisfaction to me.
The High School design provided a good education facility with small classrooms to interact, big
boards to learn any subject in detail, windows providing a clear vision of the world lighting my path
to success, wide halls for walking through education, and brilliants colors to impact my inspiration.

Qualities of a Good Teacher
Qualities of a good teacher Teaching is a difficult occupation. Teachers play an important part in
training children, teenagers... So, a good teacher must have some special qualities. They are:
knowledge, creation, confidence, empathy, sense of humor and passion. Imagine you are dreaming
being a teacher, you must accept that there are no doubt that knowledge is the first quality of a good
teacher. A good teacher need to enlarge his/her general knowledge on culture, society, biology,
geography... to provide students what they want to know. Beside, a good teacher must be a person
who are open to change. He/she must know "the only real constant in life is change". There is a

window through which many young people will see their future, so he/she has to be a fine role

how to believe in themselves. Empathy is the third quality. A teacher must have the ability to bond
with the students, to understand and resonate with their feelings and emotions. He/she need to put
his/herself in students' situation to understand and solve students' problem. A good teacher must
know that the aggression, negative attitudes that he/she can see in some students have a root cause.
He/she know that they are really scared young people who have come through some bed
experiences in life. This will keep a teacher calm and have control. If a teacher can do this, he/she
will gain more than love from his/her students. As we know, sense of humor is a key to surviving as
a teacher. A teacher who is humorous and funny can reduces barriers and lighten the atmosphere
especially during heavy period. By telling funny stories, joking with the students, a teacher can
makes class more enjoyable and makes students pay attention to the lessons. An ability to make
students laugh will carry a teacher far and gain he/she more respect. Last but not least, a good

What Does It Means To Be An Honors Student
What does it mean to be an honors student? Others would describe it as a well rounded student.
Someone who succeeds academically and is involved within extra–curricular activities. To me an
honors student is so much more than academics and school involvement. It's someone who is a
leader, has good character, challenges themselves, is open minded and is dedicated. The first quality
of an honors student is leadership. Leadership is an important quality because honors students are
faced with many different challenges with different types of people that require someone to guide
and lead the group in the right direction. They don't take 100% charge and make sure everyone's
voice is heard, as well as allow others to be leaders. The second quality of an honors student is
character. Character is one quality that many forget about. A strong moral character strengthens
respect, promotes loyalty, and translates to respected reputation. ... Show more content on

They take every opportunity that is given to them. They challenge themselves mentally and
physically. They strive to do well and don't shy away from hard task, they find new ways to solve
problems and will stop at nothing to succeed. Honors students are also open minded. Although they
have their own opinions they are open to hearing and learning about others opinions. They aren't
afraid to be wrong and will accept new ideas and suggestions. Honors students tend to debate often
and they are willing to hear all sides of the arguments and "sit at every stone"... which means to see
everyone's perspective. Lastly, an honors student is dedicated and hardworking. They are always
working to improve themselves and how they succeed. They are constantly doing work whether its
academic or extra–curricular. They don't give up even if it becomes difficult and there are bumps in
the road. They work to find ways around obstacles and will do everything and anything to succeed

Why Students Learn And Perceive Information Being Taught
"How to Ensure and Improve Teacher Quality" In The New York Times "Room for Debate" topics
one presented issue discussed "How to Ensure and Improve Teacher Quality". Over the years many
school district officials worldwide have tried to come up with different procedures and the best
protocol to help improve education. Teacher quality has a major influence on how students learn and
perceive information being taught. The key ways to improve teacher quality is to Strengthening
Candidate Selection and Placement, offer Constructive Feedback/Suggestions, provide professional
development, provide adequate resources, and encourage open communication opportunities. For
more effective results these are major factors in teacher quality and this essay will prove how these
aspects lead to either positive or negative teacher quality in the world. In recent years education has
drastically made many accommodations to change and advance the field of education. Governor
Andrew Cuomo proposed some changes to how teachers would be evaluated in New York. "Unions,
teachers and parents took to the sidewalks, waving picket signs, to oppose the changes." (Harris)
The final bill will not include the percentages so therefore the details will be left to the State
Education Department. The new changes made will emphasize student scores on standardized tests
as a way to rate a teacher's performance. There were a total of 5 debaters who either agreed with the
proposal or disagreed with it. Amanda

Quantitative research is research that has been conducted for the purpose of obtaining the attitudes,
behavior or performance of people in numerical form. It is designed to generate projectable
numerical data about a topic. Quantitative Research is made by:– * The generation of models and
theories * Development of instruments and methods for measurement like Questionnaires used in
our Research * Collection of Empirical data * Modeling and analysis of data * Evaluation of results
In Quantitative research the researcher or the interviewer asks questions which the respondent can
answer by:– * Circling or entering a number * Tick a box * Record a word or phrase * Enter a short
alphabetical code * Write down everything the respondent says In our Questionnaire we used most
of these techniques. We made the respondent answer the questions in the form of Circling or
entering the number and by ticking a box. We also made use of pre coding questions in our
questionnaire which basically asks the respondent to tick a number to answer the question. The
reasons why we used quantitative research for our research was because:– * It allows for a broader
study of the subject and enhances the generalization of results. * The results are much more
accurate. Quantitative methods are designed to provide summaries of data that

Teaching, learning and assessment are good and reflect students' improving success rates. College
strategies to improve retention and hence success rates are taking effect, and in–year retention is
now high. Students' progression to a higher level of study and to employment is good.
Teachers use their good subject knowledge and extensive industrial experience effectively to
enhance students' understanding and awareness. Teachers draw on their own experiences in the
industry to illustrate key points in the lesson. In one lesson on computer numerical control (CNC)
machines, the teacher emphasised the need to manufacture engineering components using CNC
machines more competitively. He demonstrated effectively the industry practice of changing several
parameters on CNC machines to achieve the required objectives.
In practical lessons, students work independently, productively and safely. Most students produce a
good standard of work. They make good progress and develop appropriate occupational skills. In a
lesson in fabrication and welding, students produced a variety of high quality engineering
components. In the minority of lessons, teachers pay insufficient attention to developing students'
underpinning knowledge. For example, in a lesson on "turning", several students were unable to
state the type of material they were using. In another lesson, a few students did not know the
application of the engineering products that they were manufacturing.
In theory lessons,

Rising Grades : The Negative Effects Of Grade Depenlation...
Rising Grades:
Grade inflation is causing an A to become an average grade. Students who are good are hard to
differentiate from those who are excellent. Grade inflation in private school and expensive colleges
is even more extreme, to some extent causing those who pay the most to receive the highest grades.
Grade inflation is thought to help students by rewarding any effort and decreasing stress, but grade
inflation instead makes grades worthless and some attempts to fight it are detrimental to students.
Grades matter and will affect the success of students. The extreme inflation of grades has a negative
impact on this country.
The rising grades prevent truly excellent students from developing and standing out. Rather than
allowing those with true skill, dedication, and commitment to be recognized and rewarded for it,
grade inflation brings others up to their level and makes it hard to distinguish students. Teachers will
curve low scoring tests by 10 or even more points and award easy 100's in response to student
demand for high grades (Huffingtonpost). The issue is, when inferior work receives an A, excellent
work goes unrewarded and discourages that dedication.
Some claim that those who are truly skilled will get good grades and not be affected. Students who
are skilled but not to the same extent will still get the same grades due to the fact that all students are
compressed in the top division. The most proficient students are unable to progress beyond others
and many

the students may have questions, that they ask the teacher so they can understand the task better.
Doing homework is also a way to move forward throughout the class. It is always important to have

Characteristics Of A Good Student Essay
A good student is someone who always tries to do the right thing and makes education an important
priority. Being a good student in school is an excellent start on having a successful future.
Motivation is the key to their success. There are many qualities to be considered a good student.
Three of the most important qualities are maintaining good grades, having excellent behavior, and
managing your time wisely. Trying to maintain good grades is very important when in school.
Having grades like "A's" and "B's" for example will result in having many educational opportunities
and rewards. Colleges, job companies, or scholarship committees will review grades and other
information on a school transcript to see if that student is eligible and satisfy the requirements
needed. GPA stands for grade point average, so the higher the grade, the higher the GPA will climb
up. This results in getting more money for college if the grade point average is an excellent score.
There are some events and programs that reward students for having high and excellent grades. The
National Honor Society is one of those programs. In order for a student's grade to stay on top,
completing school assignments are an essential way to do so. It's not possible to get through or even
pass a class without completing assignments. Usually, the class expectations will say for example
quizzes are twenty–five percent, homework or classwork is fifteen percent, and tests are forty
percent when it comes to grading work. What if the student just focuses on the bigger percentage?
Even though the bigger percent has more impact on a student's grade, the smaller grade percentages
can still affect the student if it has not been completed at all because it adds up and it still badly
affects the grade. This is why completing assignments are important. Participation in a class setting
will improve a student's grade because getting involved in the class discussions will help to
understand the subject better. Some teachers even grade on participation, which can be an easy "A".
The next quality of becoming a good student is the type of behavior you must show. Being
respectful in the classroom is important because if a student is sent out for

The Power Of Teacher

  • 1. The Power Of Teacher The Power of Teacher For some students finding a good teacher happens on a rare occasion. Throughout the years I was going to school from elementary to now in my second year in college. I have meet all kinds of teachers. There are those who are good and some are bad. I call them "poor quality teacher" because they are the ones who accept poor quality of work. These teachers typically allow students to just pass the class without putting hard work into it. Also poor quality teacher put in less "teaching" so as a result most students they teach who advance to a higher course find it very difficult to pass the next class they are taking. Fortunately, I happened to meet a good quality teacher. It was the beginning of spring 2016 I was now taking a prerequisite for one of my nursing class. The class I was taking was called "Human Physiology". At first I didn't really know how the class would go. What I heard from the previous students who took him said not to take him because he wasn't a good teacher. Mr.Smarty was a very respectful teacher. I like how he treats his student. He respect us even though the grade we received in his class is very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Importance Of The Tenure System In Education The best teachers bring out their students' knowledge. A good teacher makes students more interested in their lectures. However, these teachers sometimes get fired because they are hired later than the other teachers who have been working for a longer period of time. This is due to the Tenure System that keeps teachers from being fired when they teach at a school for a certain amount of time. Therefore, should the tenure system in public schools be eliminated? Some argue that tenure protects teachers from unfair dismissal; for instance, when teaching unpopular ideas. Also, it would be unfair to fire teachers in order to save expense, due to the fact that older teachers get paid more because of their experience. Other people agree that the tenure system in public schools should be eliminated to keep teachers working hard to improve their knowledge, teaching skills, and responsiveness. In order to improve the quality of the education, performance should be more important than length of service; therefore, the tenure system in public schools should be eliminated. The tenure system should be eliminated to protect the best teachers. There are many circumstances that allow ineffective teachers to be kept at the schools because of the tenure system. For example, many teachers cannot explain concepts clearly or give wrong information to their students while they are giving their lectures in the classroom, but they are still teaching at the school. Consequently, according to Jason ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Effect Of Sleep On Undergraduate Academic Performance The Effect of Sleep on Undergraduate Academic Performance There are only a few needs of humans that are essential for survival. These include food, water, oxygen, and sleep (Gilbert & Weaver, 2010). A lack of any of these fundamental needs can be detrimental to human functioning (Orzel– Gryglewska, 2010). The effects of sleep deprivation are numerous. Without sleep humans can be irritable, distracted, forgetful, and even experience hallucinations. There are even diseases associated with continual sleep deficiency such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes (Orzel–Gryglewska, 2010). In more recent studies, it has been hypothesized that sleep has a profound effect on learning (Roth, 2008). Information learned in the day is processed and consolidated during sleep at night. It was also discovered that sleep is required for memory construction the following day (Roth, 2008). For these reasons, sleep in a very important for college students. This group of individuals' main job is to learn new information. Even though sleep is very important for college students, this group of individuals has one of the highest rates of sleep deprivation compared to any other age group (Lund, Reider, Whiting, & Prichard, 2010). Many students have trouble getting an adequate amount of sleep due to their course load, extracurricular activities, work, and social activities (Engle–Friedman & Riela, 2004). Some of these busy students then stay up the night before an assignment is due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Study of Rhetoric Essay The Study of Rhetoric Works Cited Missing "The study of rhetoric traditionally has aimed to equip students with an ability to identify problems and issues, to investigate, to interpret, and to communicate results –– whatever the subject matter. These abilities require higher–level thinking, not just skills; analysis and evaluation, not just observation . . . . The study emphasizes strategies and practice rather than a body of facts and contemplation; thus the study of rhetoric aims for social application. Students are studying rhetoric in a technical communication course even though they may never hear of Aristotle nor study history and theory of rhetoric. Identifying a problem, gathering, interpreting, and arranging information, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because definitions are a product of rigid, formal thinking, quality cannot be defined." (ZMM –– Pirsig 206) Pirsig, a theorist as well as a rhetorician would see the approach as the right idea. Students should be faced with challenges that require demonstration of understanding as well as some demonstration of quality. I know that stating Pirsig feels students need to demonstrate some effort towards quality is reaching, but I think that is what he is truly looking for students (his in particular) to be able to understand and demonstrate. I feel that this is what you are trying to establish with us as students in your class as well. Flaws are found in this methodology of education, Pirsig sees that students need to be taught Quality but, "...how are you to teach something that isn't premeditated? It was a seemingly impossible requirement." (Pirsig 176) Struggling with this concept leads one to believe that students must develop a sense of Quality based on what they feel. There is no prescriptive method to teach students to produce Quality. Pirsig's major problem with this whole concept is that he does not have a true understanding of Quality, and rightfully so. How is one supposed to determine Quality? Here's how Pirsig (in my eyes) might respond to Carolyn Rude; students should be introduced to methodology in order to make valid attempts but the "answers" are to be derived from students applying effort to a goal, ... • 11. Notes On Teaching And Teaching EDDDE 1001: Introduction to Learning and Teaching Assessment Task 2: Scholarly Essay (1500 words) Noel Bamford Student Number 3011 9777 Topic: What constitutes a 'good ' effective teacher? Discuss with reference to the literature. Teacher quality and education standards are an issue that is under constant scrutiny in Australia, and in many countries around the world. There are many factors that contribute to a good quality educational system. Curriculum, government funding, school administration, and pressures of public opinion to name a few. Teachers themselves however, are the front line when it comes to education. The teachers in the classroom are ultimately the people whose job it is to ensure that students actually gain the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Early studies found that 'progressive ' teachers attained lower gains in student achievement than teachers with a 'traditional ' approach. (Muijs, 2004). However, the same study noted that teachers who displayed 'structured, consistent progressivism ' achieved the best student outcomes (Muijs, 2004). Collins dictionary defines 'progressivism ' as "an educational system that allows flexibility in learning procedures, based on activities determined by the needs and capacities of the individual child". (Collins Dictionary, 2014). Several more British studies were conducted in the late 1980s, such as the ORACLE study in 1988 and a study by Peter Mortimore and his colleagues around the same time. These studies found that teachers who devoted more time to engaging in whole class interaction and guided small group interaction, achieved significantly higher gains than teachers who spent a lot of time with individual pupils (Muijs, 2004). This and other research appear to point towards a specific set of skills and attitudes that constitutes an effective teacher. One skill that is proven to be essential for teaching is preparation and time management. Time is an essential aspect of teaching and learning. Time spent preparing class material, time spent planning class structure, even the management of time during the class are all important factors of effective teaching. Goldberg (2003) writes "By investing time–to prepare for class, to go over student work, to meet students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. 20th and 21st Century Classroom Management Pioneers Essay Slide 2 William Glasser is one of the greatest educational thinkers during the 20th and 21st Century. He contends that student behavior will not improve until educators and administrators change the way they work with students. Trying to force students to learn behavior responsibly is hopeless because it is contrary to their natural inclinations. Glasser believes all human behavior is purposeful. We can not blame anyone else but ourselves for good or improper behavior. He believes that students are satisfied with doing low–quality school work and unwilling to make an effort to learn. Glasser states schools will not improve until they accomplish three things: 1. Provide a curriculum that is attractive to students. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main discipline problems are not defiance and disruption but overwhelming apathy, resignation, and unwillingness to participate in class activities. We must stop teaching to meet testing requirements because the schoolwork is boring and fragmented. We must develop strategies that improve teaching, learning, and behavior management by moving to quality teaching and choice theories. In order to improve the quality of education, Glasser is adamant we give priority to student's five basic needs. Failure to address these needs and the school is bound to fail. These five basic needs are: 1. Security – Student survival needs are met when the schools provide an environment that is kept safe and free from personal threats. 2. Belonging – When students receive the appropriate attention from their teachers, along with other students while actively participating in class they feel a sense of belonging. 3. • 17. Article Review: Classroom Discourse And Student Learning INTRODUCTION The title of this article is Classroom Discourse and Student Learning. This article is written by Yani Zhang from Qingdao University of Science and Technology, China in 2008. This article consists of three pages long. Generally, this article talks about how classroom discourse and student learning interact with one another. The author quoted Daniels (2001 cited in Alexander, 2004:8) that classroom talk not only mediates teaching and learning but the wider culture. The author also quoted Barnes (1992:124) that learning is not simply adding bits of information to the previous knowledge but it is a matter of "working on understanding." It means that the author believes talking should play a vital role in the meaningful learning process. Hence, the author suggested a few techniques on how to promote the quality of classroom talk and further facilitate student learning. • 19. America Is Still on Top Analyzing the Article "America, Still on Top" American universities currently do a better job overall at preparing students for the society. Vartan Gregorian in his article "America, Still on Top", declares that one of the great strengths of U.S. higher education is that it grew by "informal design". He mentions the 1862 Morrill act, which the states were able to found colleges by using federal lands. Also states created universities, junior city and county colleges. In this article Gregorian compare the universities in America with some countries especially China. He talks about the private universities in some countries and discusses the reason that they are not as successful as American's Universities. Also he talks about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In some countries all the students cannot enter universities because there are not enough universities, but they are willing to continue their education. So some low–quality universities are built up that Gregorian names them as "universities only in name". He brings an example of these kinds of private universities in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh. Also in these kinds of universities some people just want to consider as a student and get a degree and probably get a good job in the future. They enroll in these universities that have poor quality. This is a really good argument that he mentioned. This shows the difference in quality between the universities in America and other countries. Paying good salaries to the professors in the U.S can have a positive effect on the quality of the universities in America, but it is not everything. Gregurian claims that: "Faculty is also an issue: In many countries, professors are poorly paid and institutions rely on temporary adjuncts, lectures and part– timers". This is a good point. When the institutions in other countries rely on temporary staff, the quality of education will decrease compare to schools in America that do not have these kinds of problems. Again he does not mention the name of the country and school. He does not have ethics in his writing. He brings good examples, but they are not credible. Yes there should be, there are so many problems and complications that are wrong with the education system. For instance, not all of the teacher 's are qualified to teach. The administrators hiring educators are another problem with the education system. In some cases even the discipline at certain schools are yearning for reform moreover. Reforms and changes must be made in education, some of the rules are unfair and outdated. Teachers are one of the major problems of the education system. They are crucial to the student 's performance and their learning process. The Department of Education has found that " teachers are the most important factor in determining student achievement."(U.S. Department of Education) This is true, since teachers are the ones that teach students the academics that they will need in the future. It 's the teacher 's responsibility to get their students ready with the material that they will need. Correspondingly teachers are clearly one of the greatest factors in the quality of education received by students. Although there are many factors that impact a student 's education, the greatest factor is teachers. They are the ones that are educating students. Mrs. Collier represented all of these good qualities. She was always patient with her students. The only time she would get mad is if someone acted out on a day to day basis. Students who have carelessly taken out loans and those in serious need of financial aid for their college education are now burdened with thousands of dollars worth of debt. As the student debt average continues to increase in our nation, the budgets of postgraduates begin to dwindle and the amount of defaults grow dramatically. With the large student debts our young adults are now dealt with, recent graduates are forced to compromise certain aspects of their quality and standard of living after graduation. Our nation's recent graduate's budgets are being directly affected by the student loan debt and interest accrued during and after their college careers. Student loans are a form of financial aid given by federal and private organizations designed to help fund the student's tuition, housing, books, and other expenses. Student loans are primarily given to those who are in most need of financial assistance. The interest rates that accompany these loans are relatively lower than those of credit cards, housing and auto loans, because these loans were meant to be quickly and easily paid off. With federal interest rates fixed at as low as five percent and private loan interest rates decreasing, it comes to question: why is the amount of student loan debt in our nation increasing so rapidly? As of right now, there seems to be no end in sight for this debate. Various adults believe that if children do not obtain homework, then they are not learning properly. However, numerous children are obtaining a substantial amount of homework per night, as well as per each class. Once a child exceeds a certain amount of homework, then it is no longer beneficial for the child's education. An excessive amount of homework can essentially become harmful to the child's education. As a result, teachers are struggling with finding the right amount of homework to assign to students. The National Education Association as well as the National Parent–Teacher Association endorse the "10–minute rule" for teachers to follow when assigning homework to students. If a child is assigned an excessive amount of homework, then the child might experience more harm than good when attempting to complete the assigned homework. The National Education Association as well as the National Parent–Teacher Association strongly advocate for the "10–minute rule" when it comes to the amount of homework that a child should be assigned. Intelligence and ability are not one linear scale. They are both complex. 1. What is the biggest indicator of instructional quality within the classroom? Students are able to perform tasks that are related to the class's standards. Computer graded test can only give you feedback on low level cognitive abilities. That is my I use projects much more then tests and worksheets in my class. If they can complete a high quality project, they understand the skills. (If they can help others complete the project they're even better.) 2. What type of data do you trust most when considering whether a student has learned? The data I most trust in my observations of my students and observation of their work followed closely by my conversation with my students. I teach CTE classes and my classes are all primarily in the psychometric domain (what the students can do.) There is some objectives in the cognitive domain (mostly safety and identification), but it is almost always secondary to what they can do. Because of this, written test do not work well for most of my class. They can be good for the low level cognitive, but they are ineffective for performance based tasks. In a project based class, I can look at the work the students produce and it tells me a lot about what skills they have mastered and what needs more work. The same goes for my ... Reforms and changes must be made in education, some of the rules are unfair and outdated. The Department of Education has found that " teachers are the most important factor in determining student achievement."(U.S. Department of Education) This is true, since teachers are the ones that teach students the academics that they will need in the future. It 's the teacher 's responsibility to get their students ready with the material that they will need. Quality can be applicable to any trait, good or bad. Public Schools are known be to free, fair to all, and a welcoming place for any person to attend. Being a student in public schools all my life, none of these things are true. In fact, public schools can be expensive, exhibit unjust favoritism, and for some students, the bane of their existence through bullying from students, and pressure from parents and teachers. Though I am extremely grateful for what I've received in publics schools, the knowledge I've been given, the friends I've met, and the feeling of overwhelming support from the whole school, the community and the public schools system, school systems in general, have played a key role in providing me with a quality education, the wrongful parenting, unfair representation in grading, and a profound lack of effort coming from students all take a tear at my "quality" education. To me, quality means the bare minimum, the thing that everyone needs to receive. Sleep Quality And Academic Performance Sleep Quality Affecting College Student's Academic Performance Sleep is one of the few necessities that are needed for humans to function and overall survive. People, generally adults, fail to realize the need for sleep when they are constantly working around the clock. This sort of deficiency leads to a common sleep disorder called sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation can affect teens and working adults but is seen predominately among college students. College students are succumbed to dedicating long hours to school, which makes their sleeping schedule awry. The article "Sleep Quality and Academic Performance in University Student..."goes into depth about the consequences of sleep deprivation. The article explains the consequences through a hypothesis, the process and the results. Students entering into college are faced with a new routine of daily life. Students fundamentally alter their sleep schedule in order to keep up and finish their schoolwork. Although students see the more time used to do school work is more efficient than sleeping, it can cause many misfortunes. According to the research done by Gilbert and Weaver (2010) "It was hypothesized that participant who had higher levels of sleep deprivation and poorer sleep quality would have lower academic performance (as indicated by grade point average [GPA] and course incompletions–drops, withdrawals, and incompletes) than participants with little sleep deprivation and good sleep quality." Student Expectations Of Service Quality Student' expectations of service quality in the university hostel Data was analyzed by quantifying respondents' responses of their levels of agreement with the statements that were used to evaluate students' expectations of service quality at university hostels and perceptions of service quality at dining rooms. The levels of service quality expectations and perceptions were quantified by calculating the average scores on each statement. Scores obtained from calculating the averages for expectations were subtracted from the scores obtained from customers' perceptions on each statement. The findings of the study present very important insights in relation to the paper's problem statement that "student's expectation is generally anticipated to be in line with the acceptable levels of service quality in the university hostels. The results revealed that students had higher expectation levels compared to their perceptions of the service quality at the dining rooms on all the service attribute that were used to evaluate the expectations of service quality. While medical school lays a firm foundation for the essential knowledge physicians must posses, it should also inculcate and promote the ideal characteristics of compassion, integrity, empathy, professionalism, and commitment to service and life long learning."1 Doctors are people of great power, but with great power comes great responsibility. Such responsibilities and certain qualities that medical students must present are outlined by a major regulating body of medical health in the UK generally known as the General Medical Council (GMC) as evident in both of their reports "Good Medical Practice"2 and "Medical Students: Professionalism and Fitness to Practice"3 respectively. Such reports are available for medical educators, students, doctors, as well as the general public. Of the numerous qualities that must be presented, acting with Probity, Resilience, and Conscientiousness are three main features I will be discussing in this essay. Probity One of the prime qualities doctors and medical students should particularly abide by is probity, "the quality of having strong moral principles; honest and decency", as defined by the Oxford Dictionary4. The GMC defines probity as being honest, trustworthy, and acting with integrity2. Over the years many school district officials worldwide have tried to come up with different procedures and the best protocol to help improve education. The key ways to improve teacher quality is to Strengthening Candidate Selection and Placement, offer Constructive Feedback/Suggestions, provide professional development, provide adequate resources, and encourage open communication opportunities. • 73. Rising Grades : The Negative Effects Of Grade Depenlation... Rising Grades: Grade inflation is causing an A to become an average grade. Students who are good are hard to differentiate from those who are excellent. Grade inflation in private school and expensive colleges is even more extreme, to some extent causing those who pay the most to receive the highest grades. Grade inflation is thought to help students by rewarding any effort and decreasing stress, but grade inflation instead makes grades worthless and some attempts to fight it are detrimental to students. Grades matter and will affect the success of students. The extreme inflation of grades has a negative impact on this country. The rising grades prevent truly excellent students from developing and standing out. Rather than allowing those with true skill, dedication, and commitment to be recognized and rewarded for it, grade inflation brings others up to their level and makes it hard to distinguish students.
