Causes Of The Loss Of Bees
All kinds of honey bees perform about 80 percent of all pollination in the world. One bee colony alone can pollinate 300 million flowers each day. Not
everything but most fruits, nuts and vegetables are pollinated by bees. 70% human food crops–which supply about 90 percent of the world's
nutrition–are pollinated by bees. The loss of bees in America has greatly affectedagriculture and humans both. CCD, colony collapse disorder which
is syndrome defined as a dead colony with no adult bees or dead bee bodies but with a live queen and usually honey and immature bees still present.
Most sources say that causes of major bee loss are unknown but Greenpeace says that that's not true. Some reasons they listed include pesticides,
drought, habitat destruction , air pollution, nutrition deficit, global warming, and more. Reproduction naturally slows in the winter months and the
population can decrease from five to twenty percent and then normally be replaced in the spring and summer months. One–hundred fifty ... Show more

As of October 2015, the rapid loss of bees has been deemed an urgent crisis. There had been a monetary loss of thirty billion dollars a year. The
USDA issued three million dollar investment in farmer's aid is nothing compared to what's been lost. Some more obvious effects of bee loss would
be lack of food for the whole planet. A majority of humans could become malnourished. Crops will become scarce. The effects of the loss of bees
could be catastrophic and we will slowly but surely run out of food unless we come up with some fake electronic stuff or ,and more likely, save the

Importance Of Plant Pollination
A pollinator is every animal that takes pollen from one plant to another. Pollinators are not only bees and butterflies as some people may think.
When an animal gets pollen from one flower and then keeps moving and the pollen gets to another flower of the same species it is pollinating. It can
happen by accident. Humans can also be pollinators. For example: if a person is walking in the garden and is smelling the flowers and gets some pollen
in his or her shirt; and then when they walk by another flower of the same species then the pollen gets in that flower, that is pollination.
Pollinators are important to the ecosystems because they play a very important role in plant reproduction. If it wasn't for pollinators most plants would

Pemberton, 2010).
"Resent network analyses revealed that plant – pollinator interactions display a relatively high extent of complementary specialisation at the
community scale" (Nico Bluthgen et al, 2010). But there is also a downside to selective pollination. So here are some pros and cons of selective
pollination The pros of selective pollination is that they have a species of plants that only attracts them; and that is the only species of plants they
are attracted to. Also the pollination is more effective because if this pollinator only gets pollen from one species of flower it will deliver the pollen
in the right flower. Examples of cons of selective pollination: mockingbirds are attracted to red flowers because they have a good eyesight; while
moths are attracted to white flowers because they stand out in the darkness of the night; which is the time of the day in which moths pollinate. The
cons of selective pollination are that if that plant attracted or started to attract a predator that preys on such pollinator it would put it in danger. Also if
the plant started to attract other pollinators there would be competition and there could a case in which the first pollinator would have to stop
pollinating that species of plant and start pollinating another one. Also if that species of plant got extinct such pollinator would either have to change
the plant it pollinates or

Colony Collapse Disease
Bees have existed for about 100 million years, and they have played an important role in the pollination of plants. A long time ago, pollination was
crucial to the balance of the food chain. Without it there would have been no food for the herbivores and they would have become extinct; so no
food for the meat eaters. They have been doing their job for millions of years, but recently scientists have observed problems within the colonies
which could have negative effects with in our ecosystem. For six years scientists have struggled to find the cause of CCD, to no prevail. Some of
the prime suspects are bad nutrition, pesticides in plants that the bees pollinate and disease bearing parasites. "What is CCD?" you ask. Well,
CCD is short for Colony Collapse Disorder, and it is the event that occurs when all the worker bees in a hive disappear or die, leaving behind the
queen, food and some nurse bees to take care of the queen. Researchers collected pollen samples from some hives that had experienced CCD and fed
it to healthy bees. The healthy bees showed a weakened ability to resist infection from certain parasites, especially Nosema Ceranae. In the pollen 21
different agricultural chemicals were found, and eight have been identified to weaken the bee's ability to resist infection, which may be linked to
CCD. This is already a problem in the northern hemisphere, and if it spreads the whole earth could be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One third of our fruit and vegetables are pollinated by bees, and they pollinate around 70 of the 100 crop species that feed 90% of the earth. To put it
simply, the human race can barely survive without bees. Sure, we would probably find ways to pollinate some crops without bees, but humans will

The And Its Effects On The Populations
Honeybees are important pollinator in the ecosystem, which provide pollination to crop. Most of the crops are relied on the pollination of honeybee
for reproduction. However the colonies of the honeybees are affected by a syndrome, which causes the population of honey bee decrease rapidly in
winter. Honey bee undergoes a serious pressure from Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), which is a mysterious problem. It causes a dead colony
occurs with no adult bees or dead bee bodies can with the queen, honey and immature bees still present in the colony. Honey can be found in the hives,
but the adult bees are losses from the colonies. The scientific cause for CCD is still undetermined, but the predictive causes of the syndrome are
pathogens, parasites, management stressors, and environment stressors. It begins from 2006 that the beekeepers reported losses of 30–90 percent of
their bees. To prevent the further lost of honeybee in the United States, ARS and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture develop a Colony
Collapse Disorder Action Plan to help solve the problem. The decreasing of honey bee population caused by Colony Collapse Disorder has huge
impacts on the agriculture in the United States.
Honey bee is an important pollinator in the ecosystem and plays an important role in the agriculture. Pollination can increase the value of crops for up
to 15 billion dollars ("Colony Collapse Disorder Action Plan."). 1.3 million out of 2.4 million bee colonies are

The Breeding of the Red-Fleshed Apples
The breeding of the red–fleshed apples was originally from Kazakhstan and improvements of the apple was breed in order for the breeders to
produce a apple that has high in Vitamin and as a healthy diet snack. The scientists have collected the apple's seeds in order to let those seeds to grow
in New Zealand. The red–fleshed apples were usually small back in Kazakhstan and it has a different taste which was a bit bitter and had a lack of
quality in the commercial marketing. Also they have improved the apple's taste just by crossing the original red–fleshed apple with another
white–fleshed varieties fruit in order to improve the characteristics of the apple since it will be important for commercial and consumer with its long
storage life. Generally, the red–fleshed apple will breed in order to improve the quality of the apple and also to provide nutrition which are high in
vitamins and antioxidants, which then it reduces the risk of some diseases, but there are some red fleshed apple that can be healthier than other apples
that have been produced. Although, breeders are able to use genetic information in order to make the breeding process faster and more effective. By
investigating the DNA from the apples seed the scientists are able to predict that many apple characteristics including the red fleshed apple long
before the seeds produces fruit, in order to decided which seeds are able to grow well and which can be redundant.

Does Bee Make Honey
when bees get together to make honey, it isn't a fun process. matter of fact its a complicated hard process that these small creatures go through. when
the bee gets to the nectar; which is a liquid plants make to attract pollinators, it drinks it and stores it in an organ called the crop or the honey
stomach.about 25 milligrams of nectar can be stored in this small organ until the bee must return to the hive. after drinking the nectar, bees create
enzymes, which includes inverse, disease and amylase, the will break down sugars into more easily digestible simple sugars. now the bee has to vomit
up the nectar so that it can turn it into honey. house bees collect the vomit and then begin to regurgitate it themselves to break the sugars down even ...

When the bee drinks the nectar it goes into their crop, but they don't have to return to the hive right away, the crop stores the honey for a long enough
period from them to hop from one flower to the next. have you ever wondered why flowers are usually bright and colorful? well those colors help
the bee located which flowers it should drink from because the bee cannot see the color red, therefore when a bee is looking at a red flower it
doesn't even know there is anything there, bees normally see the colors blue, green, and ultra violet. Bees not only see different colors than us, but
they also see ultra violet light that is invisible to us. when a bee goes to get nectar it gets it out of the center of the flower, which to the bee appears
as a different color. a few more interesting facts about bees are, the queen bee may lay up to 1500 eggs per day. the male bees are called drones
and the females are called worker bees. also did you know that a worker bee will die shortly after its stinger is lost. so if a bee ever stings you, it
cannot sting another person because it will die without a stinger. The reason honey is sticky is because the bees will fan it to dry out excess moisture
within the honeycomb. all in all bees are very delicate hard working creatures, and without them the world wouldnt be the

Dipteran Research Paper
INTRODUCTION Across the globe, there are many regions that are solely dedicated to produce different types of crops and other produce in order to
support the needs and demands of society. Many of these areas are concerned with ways to maximize their crop production, and often many insects,
particularly true flies (order Diptera), potentially affect these crops during the growing and harvesting seasons. Dipterans have vastly important roles
throughout ecosystems across the world, mainly having the duty of pollinating as well as serving a crucial part of the food chain, allowing many
insects and animals a source of food, without having to resort to the ingestion of plants. Many authors have discussed and examined the potential roles

Honey Bees Importance
Why Bees are important to humanity
Unknowingly, an insect as a bee can have catastrophic harm to our lives. Bees may seem very dangerous but they are the species that has dramatic
effects to our supplies and business. Bees are very essential to our everyday lives because without bees our food necessities, health essentials, and
economy decrease. Honey bees should be protected because without them we would lose a vital source of food and medicinal treatments, and nature
like basic flowers and plants will eventually rot and die. For example, fertilization is a high incentive for the utilization of honey bees since they "are
responsible for pollinating nearly 85% of all food crops for humans", ("The Benefits of Bees.") additionally different products which are utilized to
nourish cattle. The nonattendance of the bumble bee will prompt a decline in choices for sustenance. Local food markets in neighborhoods will start to
run out of food products and families will start to decrease in food supplies.
Nature needs honey bees on the grounds that without them "many plants would have no real way to reproduce and die out."(The Benefits of Bees.")
Bees are extremely critical in the way of life of most plant and blooms. There are many types of far off honey bees who have developed to fertilize
one sort of plant, and "coexisting in unison with the lifespan of that plant." (The Benefits of Bees.") Without the honey bee the plant will not have the
capacity to replicate so it will wind up

and livestock. Therefore humans along with all other living things need honey bees. But where have they all gone? Nationally honeybees are
disappearing all over the United States for many reasons such as pesticides, Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), and other issues still being
investigated but here in the Chicagoland area the colonies are dying off due to the freezing weather. "Head beekeeper for the Morton Arboretum and

Reciprocal Coevolution and Plant-Pollinator Interactions...
Interactions between plants and their pollinators has been discussed in the past very frequently. Since the Darwinian times, the topic flourished. There
are two aspects that have an important role in this relationship that have been affected by the history. The first being the floral mechanisms and the
ecological relationships between plants and the second are the evolutionary processes that affect the pollination (1). As the interest progressed, the
approaches became more specific and detailed which led to a more fine scaled insight into plant–pollinator relationship specialization. Due to specific
interactions between the plant and its pollinator a terminology of a 'plant syndrome' has been introduced, which gives a possibility to... Show more

A generalized pollination system that has been widespread as well as the specialization of the pollination systems has been questioned (Waser, 1996).
The specificity of the pollination relationships is thought to have roots in the preference of individuals. Specific scents, colours, shapes and
morphology and combinations of those attract different groups of pollinators. The obvious colour preference or simply the morphology of the flower
that determines the size of a species that can get to the pollen and nectar affect the pollinator's response. Due to certain restrictions, only specific
species can act as a vector and that led to specialization of a relationship. It was more of a key and lock mechanism rather than a coincidental
coevolution. Since the species that could not get to the specific flower, carried on until it found a suitable one. This therefore does not necessarily mean
that either the flower or the vector altered their morphology just to increase the fitness. All of the above arguments are also thought to be the root of the
mentioned 'plant syndrome' that specifies the pollinator response and the species that acts as a vector. There have been several links suggested and
studied into depth. One of them was linking pollinator behaviour to plant mating patterns. That suggests a high specialization of a relationship since
either of them had to adjust their natural behaviour to the organism they interact with. According to the National Research Council

Geomyces Destructas: The Cause Of Death In Bats
Since 2006, the population of bats have decreased significantly due to the white nose syndrome (WNS) first found in northeastern United States. This
complication is due to the growth of white fungus on the nose, ears and wings of bats (Blehert, et al, 2009). The fungus responsible for WNS is
called Geomyces destructas. The fungus attacks and spreads in various bat species due to the favourable cold conditions during hibernation. The
infection causes a stimulation in the bats, using up their stored energy so they don't have enough to last them throughout the winter resulting in death
(Fenton, 2012). Biologists have estimated from their data that nearly 1 million bats have died in three years, which was the most recorded death in
bat history. The rate at which bats are affected has exceeded 75%, and the bat populations that have been growing for the last couple of years have
diminished. The WNS has traveled to new unaffected areas causing more death in bat populations. The brown bat is the most common in affected
areas, therefore their population is the lowest compared to other bat species (Cryan, et al, 2010).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The decrease in bat population will largely impact the human economy as bats play a large role in the agricultural industry. Bats are predators of
many insects including crop pests. It is estimated that roughly there will be a $3.7 billion agricultural loss per year due to the declining population of
bats in North America (Boyles, et al, 2011). By applying rules that restrict humans to visit bat caves, we will help promote the protection and
preservation of the bats. Precautions such as equipment and clothing sanitisation are essential when humans are doing bat research to prevent the
spread of the fungus (Blehert,

Protecting Bees Research Paper
Should we focus more on protecting the bees and continue to collect needed products from them or should we focus more on trying to live without
them if the worse is to come? I believe that we should focus more on protecting the bees rather than casting them out as something unnecessary
when they play a big role in us humans still living. My first reason for believing this is a very commonly known one. Bees pollinate the Earth and
without them it would be very difficult for our flowers to blossom, our plants to be able to harvest, and our trees to grow. Letting them die would be
like letting us die. Without them we would virtually starve, the reason being because humans rely mainly on crops as a food source. If that food source

Honeybees Adaptation Examples
Examples of evolution and adaptation are present in every organism on Earth. Organisms adapt and change according to their surroundings. As their
surroundings change, they change, or they die. These are the basic concepts of evolution. Organisms will adapt to survive and thrive, or they will die
out. The species alive today as a result have evolved and have undergone much change from their ancestors. Invertebrate species are just some
examples of this in action, but if one was to look at the specific species of invertebrates and analyze their adaptations and traits, the evidence of
evolution would be quite surprising. An astounding example of this in action is a little insect known as the honey bee.
An example of the honeybee's adaptation is its colouring. The honey bee's characteristic yellow and black striping is actually an adaptation. The yellow

This group of honeybees is thriving, regardless of the fact that a mite named Varroa destructor caused bee colonies to have severe losses in
population in the 1990s.The bees changed the very DNA in their offspring to have new traits designated to counter the mites. Studies show that the
genes change include a dopamine receptor that has the bees self grooming and ridding themselves of mites by munching on them. This dopamine
receptor is also known to control something called aversion learning in the bees. The bees also had many other new traits, such as tinier bee sizes and
differing wing shapes. Researchers also hypothesize that perhaps the bees changed to interrupt the process in which the mites ate the honeybees and
reproduced during the honeybees' period of being larvae. All of these changes occurred within a startlingly short timeframe of around 30 years, as
populations were examined in the years 1977 and then compared with new specimens examined in

Why Bees Are Disappearing And The Effect On The World
Abstract
The purpose of this report was to determine why bees are disappearing and the effect on the world if they disappeared, like pesticides and
fungicides role in their disappearance, the role Colony Collapse Disorder has on their disappearance, the knock on effect on pollination, the knock
on effect on crops, can anything take up their role, can humans take up their role and is life possible without bees. It was determined that a
combination of pesticides and fungicides that contaminates the bees pollen leave the bees three time more likely to be infected by a parasite,
allow not enough evidence is available some evidence shows that a combination of factors lead to CCD where the adult bees leave the hive, the
queen, the baby bees and some worker bees this is not enough to support the hive in the long run so they die. Insects' pollination accounts for one
third of the human diet of which eighty percent is done by bees, so see a fifty percent decrease in pollination levels over twenty years could crop
yields fall dramatically. Climate change which is thought to play a big role in when the bees immerge from hibernating through winter and loss of
habitat also has an effect on how much the bees pollinate. One in every three mouth fulls of food of the average person is directly or indirectly linked to
honey bee pollination, the effect of bees disappearing would cause plants that solely rely on bees to pollinate them to die out, out of one hundred crops

decades. Nearly seventy–five percent of the insects in the nature reserves have been wiped out, leaving only twenty–five percent left. Due to this
significant decrease, it is expected for the food web to be widely affected since many other animals rely on these insects as a source of food. One of
the insects that are dying out is the honeybee, which can affect humans since these bees are needed to pollinate crops. Honeybees are a major pollinator

Alegra was simply "sticking up for herself after being bullied by the same student for the past year" (9 News). As a result of the incident, the
parents decided to hire an attorney named Igor Raykin and may file a lawsuit against the school for the traumatization of their daughter. Soon after
the Douglas County School District General Counsel provided a statement to the community mentioning that the safety and well being of the

if these children's parents were aware of this occurrence. If so, a lawsuit should be filed against the school against those parents as well. It is sad to

Plant Pollination In Plants
Pollination is the process of transferring pollen one flower to another flower which causes fertilization. Pollinators are an very important part of the
reproductive cycle for plants, and farmers need them, too. According to the Food and Agriculture of the United Nations "United States Department of
Agriculture, one third of agricultural production in the U.S. depends on pollinators". Most of our food comes from pollinators. Pollinators can be small
insects, such as a bee or butterflies, moths or even mammals such as bats. They are important for the functioning of many ecosystems for many of
agricultural crops. Apples require pollination because they are self infertile, which means that the pollen has to come flowers of another variety.
Pollinators also help in the production of alfalfa, which is needed for cows, meaning that pollinators are important for our dairy products as well.
Other things people overlook is how pollinators are needed for things such as spices like cardamom, coriander and fennel. Vanilla is also comes from
pollination of orchids. Coffee and chocolate also require insect pollination.
Although pollinators help produce food, food isn't the only thing, but also plants used to create medicines and some beverages need pollination to
occur. Unfortunately, one of the world's most successful pollinating animals are endangered or at risk, and there are necessary changes that must occur
in order to save them.

Bee colonies are being destroyed and the bee population is decreasing. In October of 2016, for the first time in the United States, bees were placed
on the endangered species list. I think we as a country should focus more on protecting the bees so that they will not become extinct. The agriculture
industry in the U.S. depends on the bees to produce food, fiber, and shelter. Bees pollinate the crops, which helps keep them alive. Farmers need bees
to pollinate their crops, so that they won't die and that they can make the market to sell. Bees also make honey. Honey is very sweet and goes good with
bread and biscuits. Without honey, the bread would not taste the same. Bees are an important source to food, because without them, the crops would

Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) was the prevailing insecticide used throughout the United States, up until its ban approximately forty years
ago because it's the long–term negative effects on human health. Farms have switched over to other insecticides, but did not take the health of honey
bees into account.
Now, neonicotinoids, is the new chemical that farmers utilize on their crops. This chemical is similar to nicotine, but causes a great deal of damage
to bees. When the bees take a bite of a crop, or come into contact with a crop that has high levels of neonicotinoids, their immune system is
compromised and often leads to death. This insecticide is used in 95 percent of canola and corn crops in the United States, as well as many of the
common fruits and vegetables. Also, it is important to note that even if the bees do not die from the insecticides, they can still return to their hive and
transmit the lethal chemicals to the

Speech On Nature Is Precious
God created the world perfectly. We are so bless to have such a precious gift like this. Nature provides us what we need to survive each day of our
living, like our mother. It give us a food to eat, water to drink, air to breathe, shelter to stay and many more for our life to become better and easier.
Our nature have many beautiful scenery. Our eyes won't get tired mesmerizing on it. No wonder why many artist, writers, poets, and painters choose
it to be their subject. Human are the real user of the nature. We are dependent on it that's why we will not survive on earth without it. Having this
precious gift means also a big responsibility. A big responsibility for a human to fulfill. That's why it is right and just to take care on it. As I said

We should not allow our selfishness to take over. We should enjoy our beautiful nature without hurting it. Let's help each other to take away it from
the damages. So that our future generation can also witness how beautiful it is. Human should not take it for granted. Let's value the worth of it while
it is not too late. Let's help each other to take care of it so that we can enjoy it forever.
Nature is everything which surround us and one of this is the flower. Flower is a part of a plant. It is a reproductive organ that produces eggs and pollen
grains. Many flower have brightly colored petals and sweet fragrant which make them unique from the other living things. They produce nectar that
attracts insect, animals and human too. While the animals eat on the nectar, some pollen grains stick on their bodies. When they move to another
flower they carry the pollen and help pollinate those flowers. The pollination by animals are more effectively than pollination by the wind. Why?
Because the animals directly move from flower to flower and not like in wind where the pollen can be carry anywhere. There is an assurance if it is

White Ash Uses
White Ash is used for many things, such as tools, implements, and tool handles. Its commonly known to be used to make wooden baseball bats.
White Ash is also used for furniture, canoe paddles, snowshoes, doors, veneer, and antique vehicle parts. The Native Americans also used White Ash
for many things, since they valued that it was a hard wood, had lots of strength, a heavy weight, and elasticity. They used the bark to make tea to
prevent lice or itching scalp. They used the juice from leaves to help mosquito bites not itch as bad. Even animals such as beavers, porcupines, and
rabbits may eat the bark while ducks, squirrels, mice, and many other small mammals eat the seeds from the tree. Since White Ash has a tendency to

The Importance Of The Extinction Of Bees
The bees are an essential part of our everyday lives here on earth. The extinction of would mean the end of life as we know it. Extinction of
bees=extinction of the habitat destroying, globe warming, natural resource depleting humans. The bees are critical pollinators: theypollinate 70 of
the around 100 crop species that feed 90% of the world. So if we lose the bees, we may loseallof the plantsthat bees pollinate, andallof the animalsthat
eat those plants, it would affect the whole food chain. So I'm sure you're wondering why the bees are endangered and on the brink of extinction, well
as I said before, it has a lot to do with humans and habitat loss (i.e.places to nest and the right flowers to feed from), pesticide use, climate change,
introducing species, and from pathogens. Law states that "in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What we have tried though consists of "planting a variety of native flowering plants in your garden. Bees tend to prefer pink, purple, and yellow
flowers and need food from early spring to late fall, leave grass, hay and old logs to provide nesting habitat, support organic agriculture and refrain
from using pesticides on your property, don't worry about removing colonies on your property unless it is in a high traffic area." An ecosystem is a
biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment but bees ecosystems continue to be attacked through urbanization and
pesticides. A modest open space, untilled, will provide lots of homes for many kinds of native bees. Not only are man made resources destroyingbee
ecosystems, other factors play into the damage of their homes. Such as exotic earthworms brought over through European origins these species may be
unintentionally introduced to new ecosystems due to shipments of food, household goods, wood and wood products, new and used tires, animal and
plant products, containers, pallets, internal packaging materials and humans. Scientists also profile the invaders and inform

The American Ginseng Plant
Author ID: 5234Word count: 706
Proposed species: American GinsengProposed action: Protecting
Facts Another name for American Ginseng is Panax quinquefolius. It was used by Native Americans. They were also an early American trade to China.
And often prized for its medicinal qualities. American ginseng are harvested and sold internationally. They were abundant inthe early days, but
unfortunately they dramatically declined in today's world.
Description
American ginseng a slow growing plant. They were found within eastern deciduous forests of North America. Its life cycle begins as a seedling with
single compound leaf(prong) and takes 3–8 years to produce a single cluster of flower. Then the flower can either fertilized itself or cross pollinate
with another plant. There are two main pollinators of ginseng are the syrphid flies and the halictid bees. Plants that are pollinated have greater seed
production. Right after pollination, berries will start to grow and each berry contain 1–3 seeds.
Why There is a Decrease in American Ginseng
Habitat loss: logging, agriculture, mountaintop mining and development
Over–harvest or poor harvesting: harvesting non–reproductive plants or without ripe fruits
Consumption by white–tailed deer: white–tailed deer often eat large, reproductive plants before they can produce seeds
Invasive species: out compete American ginseng for limited resources and some will change the soil environment making it unsuitable for

Should The Bumblebees Be Saved
Should the Bumblebees be saved? There has been a sharp decrease in bees over the years and they were recently put on the endangered species list.
The Bumblebees' population has decreased by 90% and without the bee; the entire ecosystem could become unbalanced. Bees pollinate plants and
animals that we eat like chicken, beef, pork, ham, lamb, turkey the animals that eat the grass or flowers depend on bees. If the vegetation is, low
those animals will die off and so will we. Therefore, the Fish and Wildlife Preserve has declared that pesticides, deforestation, and wildfires are
destroying the bees' habitats. President Obama has even helped in protecting the bees. Obamas administration has a plan to protect their habits by

BIOL 3700: Evolution
Maxence Salomon
Introduction
According to Thompson (1994), coevolution is defined as "the reciprocal evolutionary change in interacting species". This occurs when one species
has a significant effect on the survival or reproductive success of another species and vice–versa, leading to the gradual evolution of both species. It is
important to study this topic, as it is possible that the evolution of a majority of the world's life forms was affected by the coevolution occurring
between plants and insects (Smith et al., 2009). It is generally accepted that there are three forms in which coevolution can take place ... Show more

Coevolution in this scenario occurs by selection for those organisms from both taxa which possess trait which allow them to take the best advantage of
this mutualism relative to their conspecifics. An example of this relationship is the plant–pollinator interaction between yucca plants and yucca moths.
While the relationship between yucca plants (Family Agavaceae) and yucca moths (Genus Tegeticula and Parategeticula) can be defined as mutualistic,
it is more than an ordinary mutualism (Sheppard and Oliver, 2002). In a generic mutualistic relationship, both organisms gain fitness benefits from the
interaction, but are not dependent on each other for survival. In the yucca plant–yucca moth interaction, the yucca moth provides essential
cross–pollination services to the yucca plant, and the yucca plant provides a predator–free location for the yucca moth to lay its eggs, as well as
providing nutrition for the larvae in the form of some of its seeds (Moisett, n.d.). Since the interaction between these two organisms is necessary for the
survival of their species, it is called an obligate mutualism (Lunau, 2004). The relationship between the yucca plants and yucca moths serves as the
theme for the remainder of this paper.
Objectives
–To discuss the widely–accepted hypothesis for the evolutionary mechanism behind the yucca plant–yucca moth relationship.
–To discuss the pre–existing adaptations required by these organisms for the facilitation of

Honey Bees Pros And Cons
I believe that the first passage is right because bees help us with our crops and they help plants to give out what they give out. People need to stop
spraying chemicals to kill the bees we need the bees to help us make our plants better because without bees our plants will die and we can die too.
Farmers can help honeybees by changing their habits on farming. Their are some diseases that kill honeybees that are found in nature. Other such
as pesticides are made by people. People can also kill bees and they need to stop or the honeybees will disappearing and we would not have crops to eat

How Does Bee Population Affect Society
Slide 1 I was inspired by the stimulus document "A World without Work," by Derek Thompson. In the document, Derek talks about the social and
economic concerns with machines replacing factory workers, but he completely ignores the environmental impact that humans make. Because of this, I
wanted to focus on an environmental issue that faces the U.S today that we as humans can help solve.
Slide 2 This lead me to the question, Should the United States stabilize the diminishing bee population in reaction to Colony Collapse Disorder? And
after my research, I have concluded that America should actually become involved and stabilize the bee population, keeping them from going extinct.
Slide 3 Some background information that will help you further understand my argument and the topic as a whole includes the importance of bees
in our lives. Bees, and other pollinators, pollinate a third of the world's crops that help feed multiple organisms. Every one bite of food out of
three can be traced back to involve a bee. However, the bees have been recently dying rapidly due to CCD, or Colony Collapse Disorder. This
natural disease was first recorded in 2006 in Pennsylvania by a beekeeper. After this report, more beekeepers noticed similar occurrences of smaller
colonies thus beginning the concern over a diminishing bee population. The disease causes most bees in the colony to die off and only leave the
queen, and a few worker bees. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

There are around 25 000 species of bees describes worldwide Michener (2007). Most information available comes from those bees that are integral
part of human development and provide any kind of benefit to human societies such as honey, wax, pollen and even pollination services. Bees are
important pollinators of flowering plants and most fruit plants. Only in the United States 75% of fruits, plants and vegetables produced annually are
bee pollinated (Moisset & Buchmann, 2011). By 2009 around $11 billion profit was estimated by pollination services of honey bees, plus $3.5 billion
by other non–Apis bees (Calderone, 2012). Crop production of apples, oranges, tomatoes, almonds, blueberries, among other depends on bee pollination

Three Reasons For The Existence Of Bees
The reading passage argues that the nest fossil, dated 200 million years ago, found in the state of Arizona has no relation with did bees and provides
three reasons to advocate this theory. However, the professor found this argument by the passage unconvincing and repudiates all three reasons.
At first, the reading passage posits that the fact that there is no remaining fossil from the actual bee illustrates that bees were not present 200 million
years ago. Conversely, the professor refutes this ratiocination by claiming that there are reasons which could explain why bee fossils were not
preserved. According to the professor, these fossils were preserved in resin which is a sticky material produced by the trees and these trees were rare
200 million years ago. The fact that there is no fossil from bees is not associated with their absence 200 million years ago and the paucity of these
trees is the main reason. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, the lecturer casts doubt on this assertion by imparting that before flowers there were other plants that bees could utilize as a source of
food. The professor claims that ferns and pine trees were abundant at that period and with the advent of the flowers, bees altered their source of food.
At last, the reading passage alleges that there are obvious differences between this fossil and modern nest. Nonetheless, the orator impugns this
allegation by stating that there is chemical evidence which demonstrates that this is a bee nest. Based on the lecture, bees produce a chemical liquid
which makes their nest water–proof. The analysis found this distinctive composition in the fossil which was the same material found in modern

The Pros And Cons Of Bees
To make just one pound of honey, bees must visit at least two million flowers. In a year, a bee colony makes 60 to 100 pounds of honey for us to
enjoy. Unfortunately the bees, the only insect that create honey, are slowly dying and becoming extinct. Hives and hives of bees are ingesting
pesticides, called neonictinoids, that many farmers and other people use on their crops, causing death and endangerment, which is exactly why the
United States must ban the harmful neonictinoids. First of all, there are many said causes and the pesticide problem is one of the biggest, next to
habitat decrease. Bees pollinate our biggest food supply and if they die, so does the food supply. The pesticide, attacks the bee's nervous systems,

Plant Pollination In Plants
Every biotic and abiotic factor has a reason to coexist with the world. We can only live through balance. When we are missing a factor it throws our
system out of place. There is no exception with how plants reproduce. Like the food chain, pollination happens in a cycle, but instead of what eats
what. It's more of the steps on how a plant sends off its seeds. Plants go through a process of fertilization to produce seedlings. Most plants can not
fertilize on their own. Plants can't just stand up and walk to find a suitable mate like us humans. This does not mean that plants are not able to
reproduce. They have a special way to get their pollen onto their own or other plant's pistils. Plants trade with pollinators. Pollinators are anything that
transfers pollen to pistols. For example, bees are the most common but they are not the only pollinators. Bats are pollinators, so are humans, even the
wind is considered a pollinator. Pollinators can be a living thing or and natural occurrence. Plants have two major parts of their anatomy structure for
reproducing. The anther, which is the male part that contains the pollen. And the pistils, the female part of theflower. The goal is to get the pollen from
the anthers to the pistol. Pollinators have tasked this job. Pollinators visit plants for their own purposes, to collect nectar, which is a sugary substance
that can be used as food or to make honey, oil, or just to hang out. When a pollinator visits a

Honey Bees Pollinators
Honey bees are pollinators that play a crucial role in our agriculture industry. Many people do not realize how important a small insect can be. Bees
pollinate many different crops from almonds to coffee and account for the pollination of $15 billion worth of crops in the United States per year.
From April 2016 to April 2017 Beekeepers in the U.S. lost 33% of their honey bees ("U.S. Beekeepers" 2017). The continued loss of honey bees has
been due to several factors such as habitat loss, disease, climate change, and in big part due to Neonicotinoid insecticide exposure. Having healthy bee
populations is critical since they are responsible for one out of every three bites of food we eat. Not only are pollinators important for crops but they
also have a role in native plant populations and guaranteeing seed creation. Although the statistics above are from the United States it is important to
remember that insect pollinators are crucial to agriculture worldwide, and the main insect pollinators are bees ("Pollination" 2017). Brief 1: Federal
Government The use of Neonicotinoid insecticides is contributing to the decline of bee populations which are critical to pollinating our crops.
Evidence of Neonicotinoids effect on bees can be found in the peer review report "Chronic exposure to neonicotinoids reduces honey bee health near
corn crops" (Tsvetkov, et al. 2017). If nothing is implemented to fix this it will end up having a substantial effect on our agricultural industry, and

Why Do Bees Extinct?
Bees are one of the most vital creatures on Earth. Their impact on our environment is immense as they pollinate a significant amount of Earth's
flowering plants, contributing to the increase of Earth's biodiversity and production of food. However, they are in danger of overexposure to pesticides
and climate change. Plus, with the human population growing, bees are most essential than ever. Without them, majority of the food that stock market
shelves will disappear, the food chain will become disproportionate, and biodiversity will decrease. However, there have been measures taken to inhibit
their decline such as improved bee transportation conditions and responsible use of pesticides. It is important to implement these as their disappearance

A majority of plants are cross–pollinating, and rely on pollinators such as the wind, water and animals to transfer their pollen. Now, what makes bees
so vital in cross–pollinating is their flower constancy. This means that bees will forage within the same species of flowers as long as there is nectar
and pollen to gain, efficiently transferring pollen between compatible plants (Bradbear). In fact, it is estimated that bees pollinate 70 of the 100 plant
species that feed 90% of the world ("Future – What Would Happen If Bees Went Extinct?"). Furthermore, bees are incredibly industrious as a single
bee is able to make 7–14 foraging trips a day, visiting 50–1000 flowering plants in one trip (Bradbear). A colony of 25,000 bees is able to pollinate 250
million flowers. This mass pollination is made easier due to their ability to communicate with one another through a dance. They are able to inform
other bees the distance, quality, and direction from the nest where a certain type of plant is with a dance (Bradbear). Plus, bees have an ideal physique
for transferring pollen. Their bodies are covered with hairs that branch out to fine

Pollinators show no preference between Goldenrod Plants and Aster Plants regardless of differences in flower length.
Introduction
In this experiment, we observed the pollination of various plants by various pollinators in the Binghamton University Nature Preserve. We collected
data by observing various plants by the pond trail area of the nature preserve and attempted to explain why some plants were structurally more attractive
to pollinators than other plants. While observing a variety of plants, it became clear that the Goldenrod Plant and the Aster plant were the most
attractive. This conclusion was drawn because they attracted the most pollinators. In fact, data collected of the other ... Show more content on

The Chicory was pollinated by a total of 18 pollinators (8 Wasps, 2 Bumble Bees, 8 Honeybees). The Knapweed was pollinated by a total of 8
pollinators (6 Bumble Bees, 2 Butterflies).
As discussed before, in order to study the structural attractiveness of a plant it needed to be considered "significant" or have at least 30 points of
pollinator data. The above bar graph displays the only two observed plants that had 30 points of pollinator data over the course of the three days. The
Goldenrod plant had 35 points of data and the Aster plant had 42 points of data, making them both significant enough to study further. Previous work
by Koch classified both these plants as Composite Flowers (1930). Given their similar internal structures, we would focus on a difference in flower
length, an external structure, to explain the differences in pollinator visitations. Previous work by Gross& Werner has shown the average flower length
of Goldenrod plants to be Вѕ of an inch (1983). Previous work by Harder has shown the average flower length of Aster plants to be 2 inches (1985).

Decline Of Honey Bees Essay
Bees are some of the most hardworking insects on the planet, but unfortunately, their diligence is often overlooked, leaving these creatures extremely
underappreciated. Not only are bees the sole producers of honey, they also responsible for pollinating around one–sixth of the flowering plant species
worldwide and approximately 400 different types of plants. Without the pollination of bees, a large portion of the world's food supply would vanish;
different studies have shown that between 50–80% of the world's food supply being directly or indirectly affected by the honey bee population. From
the pollination of apples, or of the seeds used to produce grain for livestock, the food chain is strongly linked to honey bees. Furthermore, bees also
provide us with beeswax, propolis, pollen, royal jelly, apitherapy, and an income forbee keepers; they certainly have a lot to offer. This paper will

Causes Of The Loss Of Bees

  • 1. Causes Of The Loss Of Bees All kinds of honey bees perform about 80 percent of all pollination in the world. One bee colony alone can pollinate 300 million flowers each day. Not everything but most fruits, nuts and vegetables are pollinated by bees. 70% human food crops–which supply about 90 percent of the world's nutrition–are pollinated by bees. The loss of bees in America has greatly affectedagriculture and humans both. CCD, colony collapse disorder which is syndrome defined as a dead colony with no adult bees or dead bee bodies but with a live queen and usually honey and immature bees still present. Most sources say that causes of major bee loss are unknown but Greenpeace says that that's not true. Some reasons they listed include pesticides, drought, habitat destruction , air pollution, nutrition deficit, global warming, and more. Reproduction naturally slows in the winter months and the population can decrease from five to twenty percent and then normally be replaced in the spring and summer months. One–hundred fifty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As of October 2015, the rapid loss of bees has been deemed an urgent crisis. There had been a monetary loss of thirty billion dollars a year. The USDA issued three million dollar investment in farmer's aid is nothing compared to what's been lost. Some more obvious effects of bee loss would be lack of food for the whole planet. A majority of humans could become malnourished. Crops will become scarce. The effects of the loss of bees could be catastrophic and we will slowly but surely run out of food unless we come up with some fake electronic stuff or ,and more likely, save the ... • 2. Importance Of Plant Pollination A pollinator is every animal that takes pollen from one plant to another. Pollinators are not only bees and butterflies as some people may think. When an animal gets pollen from one flower and then keeps moving and the pollen gets to another flower of the same species it is pollinating. It can happen by accident. Humans can also be pollinators. For example: if a person is walking in the garden and is smelling the flowers and gets some pollen in his or her shirt; and then when they walk by another flower of the same species then the pollen gets in that flower, that is pollination. Pollinators are important to the ecosystems because they play a very important role in plant reproduction. If it wasn't for pollinators most plants would not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pemberton, 2010). "Resent network analyses revealed that plant – pollinator interactions display a relatively high extent of complementary specialisation at the community scale" (Nico Bluthgen et al, 2010). But there is also a downside to selective pollination. So here are some pros and cons of selective pollination The pros of selective pollination is that they have a species of plants that only attracts them; and that is the only species of plants they are attracted to. Also the pollination is more effective because if this pollinator only gets pollen from one species of flower it will deliver the pollen in the right flower. Examples of cons of selective pollination: mockingbirds are attracted to red flowers because they have a good eyesight; while moths are attracted to white flowers because they stand out in the darkness of the night; which is the time of the day in which moths pollinate. The cons of selective pollination are that if that plant attracted or started to attract a predator that preys on such pollinator it would put it in danger. Also if the plant started to attract other pollinators there would be competition and there could a case in which the first pollinator would have to stop pollinating that species of plant and start pollinating another one. Also if that species of plant got extinct such pollinator would either have to change the plant it pollinates or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Colony Collapse Disease Bees have existed for about 100 million years, and they have played an important role in the pollination of plants. A long time ago, pollination was crucial to the balance of the food chain. Without it there would have been no food for the herbivores and they would have become extinct; so no food for the meat eaters. They have been doing their job for millions of years, but recently scientists have observed problems within the colonies which could have negative effects with in our ecosystem. For six years scientists have struggled to find the cause of CCD, to no prevail. Some of the prime suspects are bad nutrition, pesticides in plants that the bees pollinate and disease bearing parasites. "What is CCD?" you ask. Well, CCD is short for Colony Collapse Disorder, and it is the event that occurs when all the worker bees in a hive disappear or die, leaving behind the queen, food and some nurse bees to take care of the queen. Researchers collected pollen samples from some hives that had experienced CCD and fed it to healthy bees. The healthy bees showed a weakened ability to resist infection from certain parasites, especially Nosema Ceranae. In the pollen 21 different agricultural chemicals were found, and eight have been identified to weaken the bee's ability to resist infection, which may be linked to CCD. This is already a problem in the northern hemisphere, and if it spreads the whole earth could be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One third of our fruit and vegetables are pollinated by bees, and they pollinate around 70 of the 100 crop species that feed 90% of the earth. To put it simply, the human race can barely survive without bees. Sure, we would probably find ways to pollinate some crops without bees, but humans will never be able to do their job as well as they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The And Its Effects On The Populations Honeybees are important pollinator in the ecosystem, which provide pollination to crop. Most of the crops are relied on the pollination of honeybee for reproduction. However the colonies of the honeybees are affected by a syndrome, which causes the population of honey bee decrease rapidly in winter. Honey bee undergoes a serious pressure from Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), which is a mysterious problem. It causes a dead colony occurs with no adult bees or dead bee bodies can with the queen, honey and immature bees still present in the colony. Honey can be found in the hives, but the adult bees are losses from the colonies. The scientific cause for CCD is still undetermined, but the predictive causes of the syndrome are pathogens, parasites, management stressors, and environment stressors. It begins from 2006 that the beekeepers reported losses of 30–90 percent of their bees. To prevent the further lost of honeybee in the United States, ARS and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture develop a Colony Collapse Disorder Action Plan to help solve the problem. The decreasing of honey bee population caused by Colony Collapse Disorder has huge impacts on the agriculture in the United States. Honey bee is an important pollinator in the ecosystem and plays an important role in the agriculture. Pollination can increase the value of crops for up to 15 billion dollars ("Colony Collapse Disorder Action Plan."). 1.3 million out of 2.4 million bee colonies are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Breeding of the Red-Fleshed Apples The breeding of the red–fleshed apples was originally from Kazakhstan and improvements of the apple was breed in order for the breeders to produce a apple that has high in Vitamin and as a healthy diet snack. The scientists have collected the apple's seeds in order to let those seeds to grow in New Zealand. The red–fleshed apples were usually small back in Kazakhstan and it has a different taste which was a bit bitter and had a lack of quality in the commercial marketing. Also they have improved the apple's taste just by crossing the original red–fleshed apple with another white–fleshed varieties fruit in order to improve the characteristics of the apple since it will be important for commercial and consumer with its long storage life. Generally, the red–fleshed apple will breed in order to improve the quality of the apple and also to provide nutrition which are high in vitamins and antioxidants, which then it reduces the risk of some diseases, but there are some red fleshed apple that can be healthier than other apples that have been produced. Although, breeders are able to use genetic information in order to make the breeding process faster and more effective. By investigating the DNA from the apples seed the scientists are able to predict that many apple characteristics including the red fleshed apple long before the seeds produces fruit, in order to decided which seeds are able to grow well and which can be redundant. • 6. Does Bee Make Honey when bees get together to make honey, it isn't a fun process. matter of fact its a complicated hard process that these small creatures go through. when the bee gets to the nectar; which is a liquid plants make to attract pollinators, it drinks it and stores it in an organ called the crop or the honey stomach.about 25 milligrams of nectar can be stored in this small organ until the bee must return to the hive. after drinking the nectar, bees create enzymes, which includes inverse, disease and amylase, the will break down sugars into more easily digestible simple sugars. now the bee has to vomit up the nectar so that it can turn it into honey. house bees collect the vomit and then begin to regurgitate it themselves to break the sugars down even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the bee drinks the nectar it goes into their crop, but they don't have to return to the hive right away, the crop stores the honey for a long enough period from them to hop from one flower to the next. have you ever wondered why flowers are usually bright and colorful? well those colors help the bee located which flowers it should drink from because the bee cannot see the color red, therefore when a bee is looking at a red flower it doesn't even know there is anything there, bees normally see the colors blue, green, and ultra violet. Bees not only see different colors than us, but they also see ultra violet light that is invisible to us. when a bee goes to get nectar it gets it out of the center of the flower, which to the bee appears as a different color. a few more interesting facts about bees are, the queen bee may lay up to 1500 eggs per day. the male bees are called drones and the females are called worker bees. also did you know that a worker bee will die shortly after its stinger is lost. so if a bee ever stings you, it cannot sting another person because it will die without a stinger. The reason honey is sticky is because the bees will fan it to dry out excess moisture within the honeycomb. all in all bees are very delicate hard working creatures, and without them the world wouldnt be the ... • 7. Dipteran Research Paper INTRODUCTION Across the globe, there are many regions that are solely dedicated to produce different types of crops and other produce in order to support the needs and demands of society. Many of these areas are concerned with ways to maximize their crop production, and often many insects, particularly true flies (order Diptera), potentially affect these crops during the growing and harvesting seasons. Dipterans have vastly important roles throughout ecosystems across the world, mainly having the duty of pollinating as well as serving a crucial part of the food chain, allowing many insects and animals a source of food, without having to resort to the ingestion of plants. Many authors have discussed and examined the potential roles that dipterans... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. Honey Bees Importance Why Bees are important to humanity Unknowingly, an insect as a bee can have catastrophic harm to our lives. Bees may seem very dangerous but they are the species that has dramatic effects to our supplies and business. Bees are very essential to our everyday lives because without bees our food necessities, health essentials, and economy decrease. Honey bees should be protected because without them we would lose a vital source of food and medicinal treatments, and nature like basic flowers and plants will eventually rot and die. For example, fertilization is a high incentive for the utilization of honey bees since they "are responsible for pollinating nearly 85% of all food crops for humans", ("The Benefits of Bees.") additionally different products which are utilized to nourish cattle. The nonattendance of the bumble bee will prompt a decline in choices for sustenance. Local food markets in neighborhoods will start to run out of food products and families will start to decrease in food supplies. Nature needs honey bees on the grounds that without them "many plants would have no real way to reproduce and die out."(The Benefits of Bees.") Bees are extremely critical in the way of life of most plant and blooms. There are many types of far off honey bees who have developed to fertilize one sort of plant, and "coexisting in unison with the lifespan of that plant." (The Benefits of Bees.") Therefore humans along with all other living things need honey bees. But where have they all gone? Nationally honeybees are disappearing all over the United States for many reasons such as pesticides, Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), and other issues still being investigated but here in the Chicagoland area the colonies are dying off due to the freezing weather. • 10. Reciprocal Coevolution and Plant-Pollinator Interactions... Interactions between plants and their pollinators has been discussed in the past very frequently. Since the Darwinian times, the topic flourished. There are two aspects that have an important role in this relationship that have been affected by the history. The first being the floral mechanisms and the ecological relationships between plants and the second are the evolutionary processes that affect the pollination (1). As the interest progressed, the approaches became more specific and detailed which led to a more fine scaled insight into plant–pollinator relationship specialization. Due to specific interactions between the plant and its pollinator a terminology of a 'plant syndrome' has been introduced, which gives a possibility to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A generalized pollination system that has been widespread as well as the specialization of the pollination systems has been questioned (Waser, 1996). The specificity of the pollination relationships is thought to have roots in the preference of individuals. Specific scents, colours, shapes and morphology and combinations of those attract different groups of pollinators. The obvious colour preference or simply the morphology of the flower that determines the size of a species that can get to the pollen and nectar affect the pollinator's response. Due to certain restrictions, only specific species can act as a vector and that led to specialization of a relationship. It was more of a key and lock mechanism rather than a coincidental coevolution. Since the species that could not get to the specific flower, carried on until it found a suitable one. This therefore does not necessarily mean that either the flower or the vector altered their morphology just to increase the fitness. All of the above arguments are also thought to be the root of the mentioned 'plant syndrome' that specifies the pollinator response and the species that acts as a vector. There have been several links suggested and studied into depth. One of them was linking pollinator behaviour to plant mating patterns. That suggests a high specialization of a relationship since either of them had to adjust their natural behaviour to the organism they interact with. According to the National Research Council ... The problems started to happen when bees started to have poor nutrition and this caused them to get diseases. The bees started to die out and there were not enough to pollinate the flowers. It affects us in many ways too. "But for the past decade more bees have been vanishing." by Lindsay Lowe, paragraph 8. The government is working on solutions to fix the honey bees problem. • 12. Geomyces Destructas: The Cause Of Death In Bats Since 2006, the population of bats have decreased significantly due to the white nose syndrome (WNS) first found in northeastern United States. This complication is due to the growth of white fungus on the nose, ears and wings of bats (Blehert, et al, 2009). The fungus responsible for WNS is called Geomyces destructas. The fungus attacks and spreads in various bat species due to the favourable cold conditions during hibernation. The infection causes a stimulation in the bats, using up their stored energy so they don't have enough to last them throughout the winter resulting in death (Fenton, 2012). Biologists have estimated from their data that nearly 1 million bats have died in three years, which was the most recorded death in bat history. The rate at which bats are affected has exceeded 75%, and the bat populations that have been growing for the last couple of years have diminished. The WNS has traveled to new unaffected areas causing more death in bat populations. The brown bat is the most common in affected areas, therefore their population is the lowest compared to other bat species (Cryan, et al, 2010).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The decrease in bat population will largely impact the human economy as bats play a large role in the agricultural industry. Bats are predators of many insects including crop pests. It is estimated that roughly there will be a $3.7 billion agricultural loss per year due to the declining population of bats in North America (Boyles, et al, 2011). By applying rules that restrict humans to visit bat caves, we will help promote the protection and preservation of the bats. Precautions such as equipment and clothing sanitisation are essential when humans are doing bat research to prevent the spread of the fungus (Blehert, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Protecting Bees Research Paper Should we focus more on protecting the bees and continue to collect needed products from them or should we focus more on trying to live without them if the worse is to come? I believe that we should focus more on protecting the bees rather than casting them out as something unnecessary when they play a big role in us humans still living. My first reason for believing this is a very commonly known one. Bees pollinate the Earth and without them it would be very difficult for our flowers to blossom, our plants to be able to harvest, and our trees to grow. • 14. Honeybees Adaptation Examples Examples of evolution and adaptation are present in every organism on Earth. Organisms adapt and change according to their surroundings. As their surroundings change, they change, or they die. These are the basic concepts of evolution. Organisms will adapt to survive and thrive, or they will die out. The species alive today as a result have evolved and have undergone much change from their ancestors. Invertebrate species are just some examples of this in action, but if one was to look at the specific species of invertebrates and analyze their adaptations and traits, the evidence of evolution would be quite surprising. An astounding example of this in action is a little insect known as the honey bee. An example of the honeybee's adaptation is its colouring. The honey bee's characteristic yellow and black striping is actually an adaptation. The yellow /black colouring helps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This group of honeybees is thriving, regardless of the fact that a mite named Varroa destructor caused bee colonies to have severe losses in population in the 1990s.The bees changed the very DNA in their offspring to have new traits designated to counter the mites. Studies show that the genes change include a dopamine receptor that has the bees self grooming and ridding themselves of mites by munching on them. This dopamine receptor is also known to control something called aversion learning in the bees. The bees also had many other new traits, such as tinier bee sizes and differing wing shapes. Researchers also hypothesize that perhaps the bees changed to interrupt the process in which the mites ate the honeybees and reproduced during the honeybees' period of being larvae. All of these changes occurred within a startlingly short timeframe of around 30 years, as populations were examined in the years 1977 and then compared with new specimens examined in ... The hummingbirds are attracted to flowers with a light scent and not a very strong odor because it attracts too many insects and other organisms. Why Bees Are Disappearing And The Effect On The World Abstract The purpose of this report was to determine why bees are disappearing and the effect on the world if they disappeared, like pesticides and fungicides role in their disappearance, the role Colony Collapse Disorder has on their disappearance, the knock on effect on pollination, the knock on effect on crops, can anything take up their role, can humans take up their role and is life possible without bees. It was determined that a combination of pesticides and fungicides that contaminates the bees pollen leave the bees three time more likely to be infected by a parasite, allow not enough evidence is available some evidence shows that a combination of factors lead to CCD where the adult bees leave the hive, the queen, the baby bees and some worker bees this is not enough to support the hive in the long run so they die. Insects' pollination accounts for one third of the human diet of which eighty percent is done by bees, so see a fifty percent decrease in pollination levels over twenty years could crop yields fall dramatically. Climate change which is thought to play a big role in when the bees immerge from hibernating through winter and loss of habitat also has an effect on how much the bees pollinate. The Importance Of Insect Population In Germany Current Event: Week Eight According to an Off–The–Grid news site, the insect population in Germany has decreased significantly in the last few decades. Nearly seventy–five percent of the insects in the nature reserves have been wiped out, leaving only twenty–five percent left. Due to this significant decrease, it is expected for the food web to be widely affected since many other animals rely on these insects as a source of food. One of the insects that are dying out is the honeybee, which can affect humans since these bees are needed to pollinate crops. • 19. Plant Pollination In Plants Pollination is the process of transferring pollen one flower to another flower which causes fertilization. Pollinators are an very important part of the reproductive cycle for plants, and farmers need them, too. According to the Food and Agriculture of the United Nations "United States Department of Agriculture, one third of agricultural production in the U.S. depends on pollinators". Most of our food comes from pollinators. Pollinators can be small insects, such as a bee or butterflies, moths or even mammals such as bats. They are important for the functioning of many ecosystems for many of agricultural crops. Vanilla is also comes from pollination of orchids. Coffee and chocolate also require insect pollination. Although pollinators help produce food, food isn't the only thing, but also plants used to create medicines and some beverages need pollination to occur. Unfortunately, one of the world's most successful pollinating animals are endangered or at risk, and there are necessary changes that must occur in order to save them. They were abundant inthe early days, but unfortunately they dramatically declined in today's world. Description American ginseng a slow growing plant. They were found within eastern deciduous forests of North America. Its life cycle begins as a seedling with single compound leaf(prong) and takes 3–8 years to produce a single cluster of flower. Then the flower can either fertilized itself or cross pollinate with another plant. There are two main pollinators of ginseng are the syrphid flies and the halictid bees. Plants that are pollinated have greater seed production. Right after pollination, berries will start to grow and each berry contain 1–3 seeds. Why There is a Decrease in American Ginseng Habitat loss: logging, agriculture, mountaintop mining and development Over–harvest or poor harvesting: harvesting non–reproductive plants or without ripe fruits Consumption by white–tailed deer: white–tailed deer often eat large, reproductive plants before they can produce seeds Invasive species: out compete American ginseng for limited resources and some will change the soil environment making it unsuitable for ... Yucca Plants And Yucca Moths Yucca Plants and Yucca Moths: A Coevolutionary Point of View Petra Markova 300214198 BIOL 3700: Evolution Maxence Salomon Introduction According to Thompson (1994), coevolution is defined as "the reciprocal evolutionary change in interacting species". This occurs when one species has a significant effect on the survival or reproductive success of another species and vice–versa, leading to the gradual evolution of both species. It is important to study this topic, as it is possible that the evolution of a majority of the world's life forms was affected by the coevolution occurring between plants and insects (Smith et al., 2009). Coevolution in this scenario occurs by selection for those organisms from both taxa which possess trait which allow them to take the best advantage of this mutualism relative to their conspecifics. An example of this relationship is the plant–pollinator interaction between yucca plants and yucca moths. While the relationship between yucca plants (Family Agavaceae) and yucca moths (Genus Tegeticula and Parategeticula) can be defined as mutualistic, it is more than an ordinary mutualism (Sheppard and Oliver, 2002). In a generic mutualistic relationship, both organisms gain fitness benefits from the interaction, but are not dependent on each other for survival. In the yucca plant–yucca moth interaction, the yucca moth provides essential cross–pollination services to the yucca plant, and the yucca plant provides a predator–free location for the yucca moth to lay its eggs, as well as providing nutrition for the larvae in the form of some of its seeds (Moisett, n.d.). Since the interaction between these two organisms is necessary for the survival of their species, it is called an obligate mutualism (Lunau, 2004). The relationship between the yucca plants and yucca moths serves as the theme for the remainder of this paper. Objectives –To discuss the widely–accepted hypothesis for the evolutionary mechanism behind the yucca plant–yucca moth relationship. –To discuss the pre–existing adaptations required by these organisms for the facilitation of

In the document, Derek talks about the social and economic concerns with machines replacing factory workers, but he completely ignores the environmental impact that humans make. Because of this, I wanted to focus on an environmental issue that faces the U.S today that we as humans can help solve. Slide 2 This lead me to the question, Should the United States stabilize the diminishing bee population in reaction to Colony Collapse Disorder? And after my research, I have concluded that America should actually become involved and stabilize the bee population, keeping them from going extinct. Slide 3 Some background information that will help you further understand my argument and the topic as a whole includes the importance of bees in our lives. Bees, and other pollinators, pollinate a third of the world's crops that help feed multiple organisms. Every one bite of food out of three can be traced back to involve a bee. However, the bees have been recently dying rapidly due to CCD, or Colony Collapse Disorder. This natural disease was first recorded in 2006 in Pennsylvania by a beekeeper. • 35. Plant Pollination In Plants Every biotic and abiotic factor has a reason to coexist with the world. We can only live through balance. When we are missing a factor it throws our system out of place. There is no exception with how plants reproduce. Like the food chain, pollination happens in a cycle, but instead of what eats what. It's more of the steps on how a plant sends off its seeds. Plants go through a process of fertilization to produce seedlings. Most plants can not fertilize on their own. Plants can't just stand up and walk to find a suitable mate like us humans. This does not mean that plants are not able to reproduce. They have a special way to get their pollen onto their own or other plant's pistils. Plants trade with pollinators. Pollinators are anything that transfers pollen to pistols. For example, bees are the most common but they are not the only pollinators. Bats are pollinators, so are humans, even the wind is considered a pollinator. Pollinators can be a living thing or and natural occurrence. Plants have two major parts of their anatomy structure for reproducing. The anther, which is the male part that contains the pollen. And the pistils, the female part of theflower. The goal is to get the pollen from the anthers to the pistol. Pollinators have tasked this job. Pollinators visit plants for their own purposes, to collect nectar, which is a sugary substance that can be used as food or to make honey, oil, or just to hang out. When a pollinator visits a ... Bees pollinate many different crops from almonds to coffee and account for the pollination of $15 billion worth of crops in the United States per year. From April 2016 to April 2017 Beekeepers in the U.S. lost 33% of their honey bees ("U.S. Beekeepers" 2017). The continued loss of honey bees has been due to several factors such as habitat loss, disease, climate change, and in big part due to Neonicotinoid insecticide exposure. Having healthy bee populations is critical since they are responsible for one out of every three bites of food we eat. Not only are pollinators important for crops but they also have a role in native plant populations and guaranteeing seed creation. Although the statistics above are from the United States it is important to remember that insect pollinators are crucial to agriculture worldwide, and the main insect pollinators are bees ("Pollination" 2017). Brief 1: Federal Government The use of Neonicotinoid insecticides is contributing to the decline of bee populations which are critical to pollinating our crops. Evidence of Neonicotinoids effect on bees can be found in the peer review report "Chronic exposure to neonicotinoids reduces honey bee health near corn crops" (Tsvetkov, et al. 2017). A majority of plants are cross–pollinating, and rely on pollinators such as the wind, water and animals to transfer their pollen. We collected data by observing various plants by the pond trail area of the nature preserve and attempted to explain why some plants were structurally more attractive to pollinators than other plants. While observing a variety of plants, it became clear that the Goldenrod Plant and the Aster plant were the most attractive. This conclusion was drawn because they attracted the most pollinators. In fact, data collected of the other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Chicory was pollinated by a total of 18 pollinators (8 Wasps, 2 Bumble Bees, 8 Honeybees). The Knapweed was pollinated by a total of 8 pollinators (6 Bumble Bees, 2 Butterflies). As discussed before, in order to study the structural attractiveness of a plant it needed to be considered "significant" or have at least 30 points of pollinator data. The above bar graph displays the only two observed plants that had 30 points of pollinator data over the course of the three days. The Goldenrod plant had 35 points of data and the Aster plant had 42 points of data, making them both significant enough to study further. Previous work by Koch classified both these plants as Composite Flowers (1930). Given their similar internal structures, we would focus on a difference in flower length, an external structure, to explain the differences in pollinator visitations. Previous work by Gross& Werner has shown the average flower length of Goldenrod plants to be Вѕ of an inch (1983). Previous work by Harder has shown the average flower length of Aster plants to be 2 inches (1985). Chi Square Data Goldenrod Aster Honey Bee.0086.0086

Brand Pole Grown Garden Cucumber Case Study Salmonella–contaminated cucumbers connected to death in Texas A Texas woman has died as a result of consuming cucumber contaminated with the salmonella poona bacteria. Her death marks the second fatality associated with the tainted produce. The salmonella outbreak has resulted in 341 cases of infection across 30 states, including 18 in Texas. The cucumbers in question were distributed and sold in the United States from August 1, 2015 to September 3, 2015, by Andrew & Williamson Fresh Produce out of California, and have since been voluntarily recalled. A representative from HEB grocery stores confirmed that Austin–area stores received the cucumbers named in the recall, and that as soon as they were notified of the recall, the product was pulled from stores and replaced with fresh product. • 41. Decline Of Honey Bees Essay Bees are some of the most hardworking insects on the planet, but unfortunately, their diligence is often overlooked, leaving these creatures extremely underappreciated. Not only are bees the sole producers of honey, they also responsible for pollinating around one–sixth of the flowering plant species worldwide and approximately 400 different types of plants. Without the pollination of bees, a large portion of the world's food supply would vanish; different studies have shown that between 50–80% of the world's food supply being directly or indirectly affected by the honey bee population. From the pollination of apples, or of the seeds used to produce grain for livestock, the food chain is strongly linked to honey bees. Furthermore, bees also provide us with beeswax, propolis, pollen, royal jelly, apitherapy, and an income forbee keepers; they certainly have a lot to offer. This paper will discuss the mysterious decline of the bees over the past few decades and why they are disappearing. There are many endangered species around the world, and the honeybee may become the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One pesticide in particular, called neonicotinoid, a new class of insecticides chemically related to nicotine that is used on farmland, is known to have a negative impact on bees and is likely the main cause for CCD. Neonicotinoids were thought to have had a low toxicity level with a low rate of harm towards many insects, but research shows that it is toxic to bees even when exposed to a small amount; it targets their brains, affecting their ability to navigate to and from food sources and disrupting their ability to learn and memorize routes. This diminishes their potential and stops them from doing their job, or even killing them, which has undoubtedly already taken its toll on the bee ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
