Leapfrog Case Analysis
LeapFrog Has Cash and Knows How to Use It
By Luke Edson
January 4, 2015
Summary
LeapFrog entered a highly anticipated retail holiday season with a very strong product lineup.
A balance sheet with no debt and cash in excess of total liabilities limits the downside risk.
Despite insider buying, recent poor performance has kept the stock price at a very low level; an examination of valuation multiples and a DCF
analysis imply a 50–70% upside.
Although it suffered poor performance in the wake of large inventory carryover following the 2013 holiday season, LeapFrog's management team has
demonstrated that the company has great potential as a children's educational entertainment company. LeapFrog entered the 2014 holiday season with a
very strong product lineup. Its three major products, the LeapPad 3, LeapTV, and the LeapBand, all won awards from Dr. Toy, and LeapTV and
LeapBand have no significant direct competition. While the company operates in a competitive industry with relatively high capital intensity, it has a
balance sheet with no debt and very high cash reserves. Despite these strengths, the company is trading at very low multiples. Insiders clearly agree that
the stock is undervalued, as the CEO, CFO, and an independent director all purchased shares in early November at prices comparable to current ones.
In this article, I will argue that LeapFrog's strengths outweigh its risks, and that the stock offers an asymmetric risk/return opportunity for investors.

Educational Technologies Essay
Technology is now used for everything and found everywhere. Students are more likely to be using computers, tablets, hand–held game systems, or
smart phones on a daily basis. Educators know that students crave the use of technology; consequently educators now need to start teaching keeping
technology in mind. Educators also have to teach the students how to use specific technology and the ethics that go along with its use. An educator
should start off with educational games and slowly work their way to full lessons. This is to slowly acclimate the students to new technologies. There
are countless fantastic websites and other types of educational technology that educators can have in their arsenal. Here are a few online sites:... Show

Negative Effects Of Technology On Children
Tears spill over the crystal clear blue eyes of the blond little boy. Screaming at the top of his lungs, he shakes the dead iPad as if his life depends on
playing Super Mario Run. Like this little boy, many children today are extremely familiar with and even dependent on technology. In the 1980s,
children may have had Nintendo Entertainment Systems and Gameboys, but that does not compare to the smartphones, tablets, and game devices that
exist today. Children, people under the age of eighteen, who grew up in the 80s had to suffice with playing with action figures or participating in
activities such as board games, tag, and hopscotch. Although kids obviously still do these things today, technology has become a huge part of many of
their lives. According to one magazine, 75% of children under the age eight use mobile devices (Fast Company). Technology can be beneficial when
used for education; however, if not monitored by parents, children can become addicted. Children's play has greatly shifted towards technology, and it
can negatively affect their mental and physical health. Throughout the 80s, child's play was mainly centered around non–technological toys. In 1981,
the most popular toy was the Rubik's Cube; it is now one of the best sellings toys of all time. During this time period, children begged for figurines
and dolls such as the Glo Worm, Popples, Transformers, Masters of the Universe, and Cabbage Patch Kids (MeTV Staff). These toys were not highly
mechanized and

Essay on Early Childhood Education and its Impact on...
Early Childhood Education and its Impact on Technology
Early childhood education is a time where young children develop important learning skills. Young children, aged birth through approximately 8 years
(young children, 2004) interact with one another to develop social and even motor skills that they will carry with them later in life. Development in
young children involves the early years in a child's physical, social–emotional, language, and cognitive development (Baur, 1998).
Developmental aspects can be assessed by technology. Technology is growing everyday in our society, it is becoming a big factor in the use of early
childhood education.

Developmental areas include social and emotional, language, motor, cognition, and in addition a child will make approaches towards learning as well
(Davis, 1998). Language development is very important during this time and computers help since children are exposed to them for reading and
writing purposes. Also, it gives opportunities for them to be motivated to interact with other children if they are in groups. Research has shown that
computer play encourages longer more complex speech and development of fluency (Baur, 1998). Cognitively, technology use is connected to children
and the use of it can lead to greater motivation and self–direction. Development is very important socially, and placing children in groups or pairs helps
interaction between their peers. This helps increased levels of spoken communication and cooperation that were demonstrated in a study.
Study of five and six year olds and how they learned in a computer enrich environment
Learning development during early childhood education is very critical. How children learn is also very important and looked at by many
researchers. A study was recently performed to look at how kindergartener's learn in a computer classroom setting. The study was to explore children's
peer dynamics in a seven week learning experience for two hours per day in a computer–based technology rich classroom. The study was performed
with nine boys and nine girls from ages five to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Fm System
FM System
An FM System comes in a variety of forms and can include CADS, and sound field systems that are like a PA system. They allow enhancement in
sound. FM systems are an aid for everyone. They also come in personal systems. These work with hearing aids and cochlear implants. Basically, it
becomes way easier for a person to hear the instructor when the instructor is talking over all the background noise of the entire classroom while using
a FM system. The FM system is most commonly used to assist children with hearing loss, but it may be used in the classroom to benefit all students,
hearing or no hearing loss.
FM systems can also come in a personal form. When personal fm systems are used, this causes the enhanced voice not to be ... Show more content on

It can predict words, check passages for context, read aloud using TTS technology and recognize split and merged words. Ghotit also has an integrated
dictionary for students to look up a work quickly. This technology consists of novel patent–pending context spell checking technology that helps people
with bad spelling. Using these features, Ghotit can pick up and correct not only poorly spelled words. This technology has a text–to–speech service so
that a student can make sure that what they wrote is exactly what they intended to say.
Ghotit is an advanced text editor personalized to the needs of people with dyslexia and dysgraphia. This technology incorporates a possible way that
children with dyslexia and other learning disorders have less difficulty with writing.
An advantage of Ghotit technology is the ability to predict anticipated words more precisely and even with no initial letters. The main disadvantage is
the need of a training data set, which is typically larger for context completion than for simpler word completion. Ghotit is not a very complicated
technology to implement into the classroom. A basic understanding of how to use the technology would need to be communicated to teacher and
parents through something similar to an informational video explaining how the technology functions and operates. This technology could be
implemented within a week or two of introducing the strategy to teachers and parents assuming that they have a basic understanding

Descriptive Writing About Water Park
"The Water Park" "Morgan, Morgan where are you?" I shouted loudly. That was me in fear not knowing where my best friend was, this is because
I go on trips with my best friend every year to different states. Somehow she got lost this time, so I will tell you about the one of weirdest
experiences I have ever had with her. Just a reminder for myself is to keep an eye on the people you came with.
My best friend Morgan and I have been best friends since baby care. We have been through thick and thin for the past 12 years. Morgan's brother
Gene has been doing baseball for a traveling team since he was 8. Since he plays on a travel team they normally go out of state to play baseball, so
they usually will invite me to come. This time we were going to the state of Wisconsin where they have cheese as yummy as candy, water parks like
no others, and it is home to the Green Bay Packers.
We got to the hotel that we were staying at for the week while we were overloaded with excitement. This hotel even had a water park attached to the
building. When Morgan and I saw the water park our jaws dropped. It looked like a humongous play ground full water that flowed down the slides
carrying children and families down the swishing streams that threw them into the freezing cold water at the bottom of the slide.
We were very excited to go play at the water park, so excited that we grabbed the hotel key out of her mother's hands and dashed to the hotel room like
we were competing

Also they found trouble on finding a supplier for touch–sensitive membranes. However they also, have a problem to find a supplier for material
clothlike paper (tyvek). They solve these problems by using staff tapped network of supplier to hunt down a second vendor, so they found the DuPont
Co. for the (tyvek) but they also need something that would be drool resistant and still absorb ink. So they found a third party for that – a book –
printing firm– in US. * Finally, what type of logistics solutions did Leapfrog use to get the toys to the stores on time? What are the strengths and
weaknesses of these solutions? If it had been August rather than December, what other opinion might Leapfrog have used? Answer: They solve the
problem by using the air fright to respond for the shortages. The strength as we can see that they consider about the time & speed, so they will
reduce orders delaying and lead time. On the other hand about the weaknesses, they almost lost their profit on air shipping because it costly and they
will need to deal with 3PL to support them. Conclusion: As we can recognize from this case that the leapfrog have many challenges in different things
like sourcing, production process, logistics and many other things. Also on our report by answering the question we discuss how they resolve their
problem and analyze it. We describe the supply chain map and discuss about how they process their information on their systems. On the other

("#1 Kids Learning Tablet!") The main weakness the LeapPad two has is that the battery life doesn't last very long. Playing a game for only twenty
minutes really drains the battery. I change the batteries in my daughters pad about every two to three days, and batteries aren't cheap. The pad takes
four triple A batteries. When purchasing the LeapPad two you have the option to buy arechargeable battery pack, but it will cost you extra money, and
the battery pack doesn't work well with the LeapPad two. The pack was made for the newest versions of the LeapPad. The other option you have
when buying the pad is to buy rechargeable batteries and a battery charger. This too will cost you extra money on top of the price of the pad.
Another weakness the pad has is it can't connect to Wi–Fi. Being able to go on the internet for educational websites, and being able to connect to Wi–Fi
connections would also make the LeapPad much better.
The LeapPad two teaches children to read in a fun, and exciting way. The characters on the LeapPad two have spectacular animations, and the pad
recognizes when your child's reading levels improve. When the child touches a word, the pad sounds out the words slowly for them. The LeapPad
assists in learning phonics, comprehension, and vocabulary skills. It has voice–recordings, motion playing, and more amazing features that make
learning fun for children. ("#1 Kids Learning Tablet!")

How Does It Support Children's Learning and Development
How does ICT Support Children's Learning & Development
T he technical advances of the last thirty years and the introduction of the internet, globalisation has made the world a smaller place and Information
and Communication Technology (ICT) has become increasingly important part of everyday life. Today, it is reported that over eighty percent of
households have a personal computer (PC), with sixty eight percent Internet enabled. (Marketresearch.com, 17/05/09) Subsequently, government has
recognised the need to reflect this increasing use of technology by ensuring that ICT is to enable children to participate fully in the rapidly developing
technological world around them, whilst in others it is the need for children to be competent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Leappad is non judgemental, giving no negative feedback, so the children are free to make mistakes without fear. I recognise the benefits to both
practitioner and learner to have a piece of equipment that responded immediately. The children could select it and use it straight away rather than
having to request adults support to turn the computer and log onto the Internet or load up a CD–ROM. Having researched the equipment and satisfied
that it would be a useful tool for the children's learning, my emphasis shifted to planning an appropriate activity for the children that would allow me to
access the leappad and with the help of the children and families, evaluate its effectiveness in children's learning
Before we introduce a new toy into our toy library we bring it into our Play and Learn session to gauge the reactions of the children and parents. During
the session it was fairly instant for a child to go over to the leappad and investigate and was then swiftly followed by other children. The older children
were keen to ask questions and asked their parents to help them with how to work the toy. The curiosity by the children and parents continued
throughout the entire session. Bruce identified the importance of stimulating and satisfying

Essay about Preschool Learning Centers
Early childhood is a time full of curiosity, exploration, creativity, excitement, and rapid development. During these formative years, children develop
attitudes about education that remain with them for the rest of their lives (Kostelnik, Soderman, & Whiren, 2011). High quality early childhood
education programs and highly effective, passionate teachers or care providers will not only promote young children's development and academic
achievement but will also foster a lifelong passion for learning. ECE programs and educators utilize learning centers to contribute to young children's
acquisition of literacy, numeracy, creative thinking, problem solving, and motor skills as well as a number of other skills and knowledge (Jarrett, 2010).

Children at this age also have different skills related to numeracy. Fostering numeracy skills inearly childhood education not only predicts for later
Math achievement but also for greater literacy skills (NAEYC, 2009). Since mathematical concepts are often intertwined with so many areas such as
science, literacy, dramatic play, block building, and more, math learning centers offering interdisciplinary materials and activities ensure that young
children grow to understand and appreciate the real life applications of mathematical concepts (Fu, 2010).
Four year olds are still very much learning through the use of their senses (Blaustein, 2005). As well, some children may have special needs
concerning sensory processing and integration (Ayers, 1994). Children with sensory processing disorders range from over–responsive,
under–responsive, to sensory craving (Ayers, 1994). Nonetheless, every person encounters a plethora of sensory stimuli each day and must take in
information and integrate it with prior knowledge to make meaningful responses (Ayers, 1994). Multisensory centers provide young children with and
without special needs with the opportunity to seek out sensory stimulation, acquire sensory integration and motor skills, learn coping skills, and
understand basic scientific concepts (Blaustein, 2005).
Using play in education, especially with Pre–kindergarten students is

Leapfrog Case Analysis

  • 1. Leapfrog Case Analysis LeapFrog Has Cash and Knows How to Use It By Luke Edson January 4, 2015 Summary LeapFrog entered a highly anticipated retail holiday season with a very strong product lineup. A balance sheet with no debt and cash in excess of total liabilities limits the downside risk. Despite insider buying, recent poor performance has kept the stock price at a very low level; an examination of valuation multiples and a DCF analysis imply a 50–70% upside. Although it suffered poor performance in the wake of large inventory carryover following the 2013 holiday season, LeapFrog's management team has demonstrated that the company has great potential as a children's educational entertainment company. LeapFrog entered the 2014 holiday season with a very strong product lineup. Its three major products, the LeapPad 3, LeapTV, and the LeapBand, all won awards from Dr. Toy, and LeapTV and LeapBand have no significant direct competition. While the company operates in a competitive industry with relatively high capital intensity, it has a balance sheet with no debt and very high cash reserves. Despite these strengths, the company is trading at very low multiples. Insiders clearly agree that the stock is undervalued, as the CEO, CFO, and an independent director all purchased shares in early November at prices comparable to current ones. In this article, I will argue that LeapFrog's strengths outweigh its risks, and that the stock offers an asymmetric risk/return opportunity for investors. About ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Educational Technologies Essay Technology is now used for everything and found everywhere. Students are more likely to be using computers, tablets, hand–held game systems, or smart phones on a daily basis. Educators know that students crave the use of technology; consequently educators now need to start teaching keeping technology in mind. Educators also have to teach the students how to use specific technology and the ethics that go along with its use. An educator should start off with educational games and slowly work their way to full lessons. This is to slowly acclimate the students to new technologies. • 3. Negative Effects Of Technology On Children Tears spill over the crystal clear blue eyes of the blond little boy. Screaming at the top of his lungs, he shakes the dead iPad as if his life depends on playing Super Mario Run. Like this little boy, many children today are extremely familiar with and even dependent on technology. In the 1980s, children may have had Nintendo Entertainment Systems and Gameboys, but that does not compare to the smartphones, tablets, and game devices that exist today. Children, people under the age of eighteen, who grew up in the 80s had to suffice with playing with action figures or participating in activities such as board games, tag, and hopscotch. Although kids obviously still do these things today, technology has become a huge part of many of their lives. According to one magazine, 75% of children under the age eight use mobile devices (Fast Company). Technology can be beneficial when used for education; however, if not monitored by parents, children can become addicted. Children's play has greatly shifted towards technology, and it can negatively affect their mental and physical health. Throughout the 80s, child's play was mainly centered around non–technological toys. In 1981, the most popular toy was the Rubik's Cube; it is now one of the best sellings toys of all time. During this time period, children begged for figurines and dolls such as the Glo Worm, Popples, Transformers, Masters of the Universe, and Cabbage Patch Kids (MeTV Staff). These toys were not highly mechanized and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on Early Childhood Education and its Impact on... Early Childhood Education and its Impact on Technology Early childhood education is a time where young children develop important learning skills. Young children, aged birth through approximately 8 years (young children, 2004) interact with one another to develop social and even motor skills that they will carry with them later in life. Development in young children involves the early years in a child's physical, social–emotional, language, and cognitive development (Baur, 1998). Developmental aspects can be assessed by technology. Technology is growing everyday in our society, it is becoming a big factor in the use of early childhood education. Computer use is most popular in the classroom because it is easy for children to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Developmental areas include social and emotional, language, motor, cognition, and in addition a child will make approaches towards learning as well (Davis, 1998). Language development is very important during this time and computers help since children are exposed to them for reading and writing purposes. Also, it gives opportunities for them to be motivated to interact with other children if they are in groups. Research has shown that computer play encourages longer more complex speech and development of fluency (Baur, 1998). Cognitively, technology use is connected to children and the use of it can lead to greater motivation and self–direction. Development is very important socially, and placing children in groups or pairs helps interaction between their peers. This helps increased levels of spoken communication and cooperation that were demonstrated in a study. Study of five and six year olds and how they learned in a computer enrich environment Learning development during early childhood education is very critical. How children learn is also very important and looked at by many researchers. A study was recently performed to look at how kindergartener's learn in a computer classroom setting. The study was to explore children's peer dynamics in a seven week learning experience for two hours per day in a computer–based technology rich classroom. The study was performed with nine boys and nine girls from ages five to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They allow enhancement in sound. FM systems are an aid for everyone. They also come in personal systems. These work with hearing aids and cochlear implants. Basically, it becomes way easier for a person to hear the instructor when the instructor is talking over all the background noise of the entire classroom while using a FM system. The FM system is most commonly used to assist children with hearing loss, but it may be used in the classroom to benefit all students, hearing or no hearing loss. Using these features, Ghotit can pick up and correct not only poorly spelled words. This technology has a text–to–speech service so that a student can make sure that what they wrote is exactly what they intended to say. Ghotit is an advanced text editor personalized to the needs of people with dyslexia and dysgraphia. This technology incorporates a possible way that children with dyslexia and other learning disorders have less difficulty with writing. An advantage of Ghotit technology is the ability to predict anticipated words more precisely and even with no initial letters. The main disadvantage is the need of a training data set, which is typically larger for context completion than for simpler word completion. Ghotit is not a very complicated technology to implement into the classroom. A basic understanding of how to use the technology would need to be communicated to teacher and parents through something similar to an informational video explaining how the technology functions and operates. This technology could be implemented within a week or two of introducing the strategy to teachers and parents assuming that they have a basic understanding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Descriptive Writing About Water Park "The Water Park" "Morgan, Morgan where are you?" I shouted loudly. That was me in fear not knowing where my best friend was, this is because I go on trips with my best friend every year to different states. Somehow she got lost this time, so I will tell you about the one of weirdest experiences I have ever had with her. Just a reminder for myself is to keep an eye on the people you came with. My best friend Morgan and I have been best friends since baby care. We have been through thick and thin for the past 12 years. Morgan's brother Gene has been doing baseball for a traveling team since he was 8. Since he plays on a travel team they normally go out of state to play baseball, so they usually will invite me to come. This time we were going to the state of Wisconsin where they have cheese as yummy as candy, water parks like no others, and it is home to the Green Bay Packers. We got to the hotel that we were staying at for the week while we were overloaded with excitement. This hotel even had a water park attached to the building. When Morgan and I saw the water park our jaws dropped. It looked like a humongous play ground full water that flowed down the slides carrying children and families down the swishing streams that threw them into the freezing cold water at the bottom of the slide. We were very excited to go play at the water park, so excited that we grabbed the hotel key out of her mother's hands and dashed to the hotel room like we were competing ... However they also, have a problem to find a supplier for material clothlike paper (tyvek). They solve these problems by using staff tapped network of supplier to hunt down a second vendor, so they found the DuPont Co. for the (tyvek) but they also need something that would be drool resistant and still absorb ink. So they found a third party for that – a book – printing firm– in US. * Finally, what type of logistics solutions did Leapfrog use to get the toys to the stores on time? What are the strengths and weaknesses of these solutions? If it had been August rather than December, what other opinion might Leapfrog have used? Answer: They solve the problem by using the air fright to respond for the shortages. The strength as we can see that they consider about the time & speed, so they will reduce orders delaying and lead time. On the other hand about the weaknesses, they almost lost their profit on air shipping because it costly and they will need to deal with 3PL to support them. Conclusion: As we can recognize from this case that the leapfrog have many challenges in different things like sourcing, production process, logistics and many other things. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ("#1 Kids Learning Tablet!") The main weakness the LeapPad two has is that the battery life doesn't last very long. Playing a game for only twenty minutes really drains the battery. I change the batteries in my daughters pad about every two to three days, and batteries aren't cheap. The pad takes four triple A batteries. When purchasing the LeapPad two you have the option to buy arechargeable battery pack, but it will cost you extra money, and the battery pack doesn't work well with the LeapPad two. The pack was made for the newest versions of the LeapPad. The other option you have when buying the pad is to buy rechargeable batteries and a battery charger. This too will cost you extra money on top of the price of the pad. Another weakness the pad has is it can't connect to Wi–Fi. Being able to go on the internet for educational websites, and being able to connect to Wi–Fi connections would also make the LeapPad much better. The LeapPad two teaches children to read in a fun, and exciting way. The characters on the LeapPad two have spectacular animations, and the pad recognizes when your child's reading levels improve. When the child touches a word, the pad sounds out the words slowly for them. The LeapPad assists in learning phonics, comprehension, and vocabulary skills. It has voice–recordings, motion playing, and more amazing features that make learning fun for children. ("#1 Kids Learning Tablet!") The LeapPad two has a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Does It Support Children's Learning and Development How does ICT Support Children's Learning & Development T he technical advances of the last thirty years and the introduction of the internet, globalisation has made the world a smaller place and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has become increasingly important part of everyday life. Today, it is reported that over eighty percent of households have a personal computer (PC), with sixty eight percent Internet enabled. (Marketresearch.com, 17/05/09) Subsequently, government has recognised the need to reflect this increasing use of technology by ensuring that ICT is to enable children to participate fully in the rapidly developing technological world around them, whilst in others it is the need for children to be competent ... I recognise the benefits to both practitioner and learner to have a piece of equipment that responded immediately. The children could select it and use it straight away rather than having to request adults support to turn the computer and log onto the Internet or load up a CD–ROM. Having researched the equipment and satisfied that it would be a useful tool for the children's learning, my emphasis shifted to planning an appropriate activity for the children that would allow me to access the leappad and with the help of the children and families, evaluate its effectiveness in children's learning Before we introduce a new toy into our toy library we bring it into our Play and Learn session to gauge the reactions of the children and parents. During the session it was fairly instant for a child to go over to the leappad and investigate and was then swiftly followed by other children. The older children were keen to ask questions and asked their parents to help them with how to work the toy. The curiosity by the children and parents continued throughout the entire session. • 10. Essay about Preschool Learning Centers Early childhood is a time full of curiosity, exploration, creativity, excitement, and rapid development. During these formative years, children develop attitudes about education that remain with them for the rest of their lives (Kostelnik, Soderman, & Whiren, 2011). High quality early childhood education programs and highly effective, passionate teachers or care providers will not only promote young children's development and academic achievement but will also foster a lifelong passion for learning. ECE programs and educators utilize learning centers to contribute to young children's acquisition of literacy, numeracy, creative thinking, problem solving, and motor skills as well as a number of other skills and knowledge (Jarrett, 2010). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Children at this age also have different skills related to numeracy. Fostering numeracy skills inearly childhood education not only predicts for later Math achievement but also for greater literacy skills (NAEYC, 2009). Since mathematical concepts are often intertwined with so many areas such as science, literacy, dramatic play, block building, and more, math learning centers offering interdisciplinary materials and activities ensure that young children grow to understand and appreciate the real life applications of mathematical concepts (Fu, 2010). Four year olds are still very much learning through the use of their senses (Blaustein, 2005). As well, some children may have special needs concerning sensory processing and integration (Ayers, 1994). Children with sensory processing disorders range from over–responsive, under–responsive, to sensory craving (Ayers, 1994). Nonetheless, every person encounters a plethora of sensory stimuli each day and must take in information and integrate it with prior knowledge to make meaningful responses (Ayers, 1994). Multisensory centers provide young children with and without special needs with the opportunity to seek out sensory stimulation, acquire sensory integration and motor skills, learn coping skills, and understand basic scientific concepts (Blaustein, 2005).
