What do you know about wikis? </li></ul><ul><li>Children are part of this digital world- our role as educators is to prepare the children for the future not ban the technology. </li></ul>

Common Evaluation Statement from Presenters <ul><li>Many presenters from here and oversees stated that educationally New Zealand is ahead of many countries in creating a curriculum document that highlights the five key competencies as the basis for all planning, teaching and learning. They felt that rather than subject based curriculum the competencies of managing self, participating and contributing, relating to others, thinking and using language, symbols and texts reflects the skills this generation are going to need in the future. </li></ul>

Steve Cardin- General Manager for P G Wrightson- What are businesses looking for in the future? <ul><li>People in the workplace will need to be: </li></ul><ul><li>Highly adaptive </li></ul><ul><li>Dynamic and creative </li></ul><ul><li>Problem solvers- major part of the job market will require people who can interface well with others and build relationships. </li></ul><ul><li>For us as teachers this means a radically different form of teaching. We need to educate schools to take risks and be able to change. </li></ul><ul><li>We need to break down the barriers between business and education. </li></ul><ul><li>Teachers need to inspire and encourage children. </li></ul>

Tony Ryan thoughts <ul><li>In preparing children for the future Tony Ryan believes we need to develop their thinking ability- thinkers who can reflect on their own thinking. </li></ul><ul><li>As teachers we need to model this and plan for it- thinking buddy, two colour pen strategy. </li></ul><ul><li>We need to up our expectations with regards to children’s thinking through “rich” questions.- butterfly example. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Joan Dalton <ul><li>So what qualities do teachers of the future need to have. They need to be: </li></ul><ul><li>Addicted </li></ul><ul><li>Designers </li></ul><ul><li>Connectors/collaborators </li></ul><ul><li>Failures </li></ul><ul><li>Language Masters and Inquirers </li></ul><ul><li>Licensed </li></ul><ul><li>Storymakers </li></ul><ul><li>True believers </li></ul><ul><li>Wise </li></ul>

Mark Treadwell <ul><li>Mark states that he believes we are entering the third paradigm in learning: </li></ul><ul><li>Paradigm 1= learning through oral stories </li></ul><ul><li>Paradigm 2= learning through books </li></ul><ul><li>Paradigm 3= learning through connection/collaboration/co-operation- the digital age. </li></ul>

A Cautionary Tale <ul><li>What we have to do as educators according to Greg Gerbhart is to also ensure that our children are safe in this new digital world. </li></ul><ul><li>Children will be developing a digital dossier.
