My Birthday Experience
Growing up i learned that i needed to mature at a younger age compared to my peers. I understood
that a low–income, minority i needed to work hard to achieve my goals. One experience that shaped
my life happened this past year. My family and I were evicted from our home a couple of days
before my birthday and right before the holiday season. This made me stronger but it also changed
something inside me. I learned that life isn't a game and that i should be grateful for what i have,
because one day I could lose it all.
A couple of days before my birthday my mother asked me "Que quieres hacer para tu cumpleanos?"
I was thrilled to tell my mom what I had in mind for my birthday. Enthusiastically I answered "I
want to invite my friends over, go to the park, and then come back home for the birthday cake. I
remember inviting all my friends over for my party. I had always been invited to my friends birthday
parties but this year I was hosting my own. My mom knew my favorite football team was the
Houston Texans and she wanted the theme show. Before my birthday she ordered a huge Houston
Texans theme cake, a Texans pinata, and decorations. I knew this day was going to be perfect, and
nothing could ruin it.
On December 19th, the day before my birthday I woke up with a feeling of enthusiasm rushing
through my body. At that point, i had told myself "Wow! I've never felt this much excitement
before." I rushed out of bed and started to text my friends, they were all super pumped about

Narrative Essay On My Birthday
People in the wonderful United States of American look forward to celebrating their birthday. Some
people may wonder what did happen on their special day throughout history. I have wondered about
if any significant events that could have happened on my birthday, and through my research, I have
discovered several notable events that happened on February 2nd.
On the day, Friday February 2nd, 2001 I was born in Asheville, North Carolina. The high for the day
was 49 degrees, and the low was 22. There are approximately 19 million people I share a birthday
with, and one of those million people happened to be my twin sister. During my mothers 9 months
of pregnancy, I was twin A and my sister was twin B. The day we was born my twin flipped over
me; therefore, I was born second and my twin was born first. We were born on groundhogs day.
My name Holli came from the holly tree, which has sharp–pointed glossy leaves. This is symbolic
toward my personality ironically. My last name Gouge came from a surname is medieval English.
The words "gobha", and "goff" both mean iron worker. My family could've assisted in the building
of the Golden Gate Bridge. On September 11th, 2001 the world trade centers came tumbling down. I
was only seven months old. The World Trade Center attack was a devastating, and horrific attack.
This horrendous attack claimed the lives of 2,996 people. As a nation we celebrate the lives lost
every year, on September 11th. However, for the family they do such

Analysis Of Ted Kooser 's ' A Birthday Card ' Essay
Love is Strong and Unexplainable In Ted Kooser's "A Birthday Card", the poet is expressing how
much his aunt cares about and loves him. This poem is about the relationship between the poet and
his aunt show in this birthday card. Even though his aunt is very sick and weak, she still trying her
best to write him a birthday card and wishes him with love. The setting for this poem is in poet's
forty–fourth birthday, his aunt who is in her eighties with a lot of illness and still uses all of her
strength to write this birthday wishes to him. In this poem, the poet uses the third person point of
view to describe the birthday card and the love though it from his aunt. This poem does not have
several stanzas. It is a one piece, unbroken and continuous poem. The poet is writing this poem
mainly from his feeling to tell his reader how great his aunt is. Ted Kooser always writes his poem
from his past experiences and life events. In this poem, he is using the birthday card to show the
reader one of the important person appears in his life and what did that person do to touches his
heart. This poem is about the love from his aunt and how the poet expresses it on a short length
poem. Kooser's theme in this poem is about love can overcome sickness or the strong love inside the
family bond nothing can block the love away. Love is one of the element to make human's
relationship strong. Love is unconditional, valuable, and unpayable. Love can only occur sincerely

Analysis Of Happy Birthday By Lispector
The story I have chosen to close read and argue from is "Happy Birthday" by Clarice Lispector. The
story begins with the description of various family members. The family has come together in order
to celebrate the birthday of the mother of the story. This ranges from wives to daughters to
grandchildren. It takes a third person point of view as it explains each person's standpoint entering
the home. There is a great divide amongst the children and their wives. It left the reader wondering
what caused this family to be discontent within themselves and their family. Half of the story, the
mother is silent. She doesn't greet her family as they push her off as incompetent or too old to adhere
to their words. The story then focuses on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their presence or approval is crucial in a child's development. There is the stereotype that mothers
are the nurturing ones. Anita does not play into this as she thinks of her children as the "spineless
lot", "weak creatures with their limp arms and anxious faces", "jostling rats", "communists", and
"bitter and unhappy fruits" (Lispector 80). She criticizes them harshly for what they have become
and only finds value in her seven–year–old grandson. It is obvious that the father was the supportive
role as she describes him as "a good man whom, submissive yet independent, she had
respected...given her children and support and honored his obligations", which displays that the
father was not a factor (Lispector 80). Her sons' wives weren't spared either as she calls them "feeble
and bitter". How did she become this way? Was her mother this harsh? We may never know, but in
some cases, it is the continuation of mothers. In the documentary, "Look at Us No, Mother!"
directed by Gayle Kirschenbaum, Gayle walks through her life to attempt to understand and explain
why her mother hated her. It wasn't until adulthood that Gayle discovered that her grandmother
treated her mother the same way. This brings to light that Anita's mother could have been the same
way and Anita became her mother. Anita was raised with an ideal image of what her son should be.
Only Jonga fit the bill and this built his confidence. However, this resulted in

How Does Brush Use Literary Devices In The Birthday Party
A birthday party regarding the age is always a nice gesture to have, and a great way to celebrate a
birthday. A simple birthday cake can be really meaningful to a person on their birthday. In the short
story "The Birthday Party" by Katharine Brush, however she demonstrates that a relationship that
does not take consideration and does not appreciate what their partner does for them, is a
relationship that is not worth it. She gets this message across, using literary devices such as imagery,
alliteration, and symbolism. Imagery is a source used for the author to get her point across because
we get to see a visual in our minds. For example when Brush is describing the characters, she states,
"The man had a round, self–satisfied face, with glasses

My First Birthday Party At A Montessori School
Before my fifth birthday, I grew up a very happy little girl in a very large four–story home. I
attended a Montessori school housed in a two–room little red schoolhouse complete with a school
bell on the roof. My parents were both very attractive and successful entrepreneurs who loved me
very much. For my fifth birthday, they decided that they were going to invite my entire kindergarten
class from my Montessori school, around 25 students and 2 teachers, to my fifth birthday party.
They set up the backyard with games designed for five–year–olds. One of which was my favorite,
Pin–the–Tail–on–the–Donkey. You see, I mastered this game at the birthday parties I attended prior
by adjusting the blindfold in such a way where I could see a little ... Show more content on

The games began, and I was so excited. It was my turn to play Pin–the–Tail–on–the–Donkey! So
far, everyone's tails were way off the mark from the donkey's butt. I knew I could do better than all
of them. My dad spun me around three times. Tail in hand, I itched my face in a manner where I was
able to adjust the blindfold. Now, I could see out of the bottom a little, and I walked in the direction
I was sure was forward toward the donkey's butt. I placed the tail, and I took a few steps back. My
dad lifted the blindfold from my head to reveal that my tail had been placed nowhere near the
donkey's butt! In fact, it wasn't even on the donkey's picture. I began to cry. I screamed, "You moved
it! You moved it!" at my father. I was convinced that he did not want me to have the toys I picked
out so much that he sabotaged the game. He didn't want me to win. I ran screaming and crying to
my mother. "Mom! Mom! Daddy doesn't want me to win. He doesn't want me to have the toys I
picked out." My father came running after me. My mother turned to my father, "What did you do to
her?" My father tried to explain, but before his side could be heard my mother snapped at him.
"Gary, you ruin everything!" How could you upset our little girl on her birthday?!" I was quiet; we
all were. My mother had spoken so harshly to my father without even hearing his side to the story. I
realized in that moment I was wrong. I shouldn't have wanted the toys so much when I

My Birthday Is Important To Me
Sixteen
Birthdays have always been a thing of great importance to me. Whether it's me or any of my close
friends and or family, I always have thought that birthdays and the aspect of remembering someone
elses are the most important thing someone can do for a person. No matter the age whether 6, 10, or
85, doing it big and celebrating for someone is a particular way of showing someone how much they
mean to you whether it is shown by a simple card or with a big party. In addition to my birthday
being very important to me, I go out of my way to make sure that my friends and family feel equally
special when there time comes. Nevertheless, my birthdays in particular have always been amazing
thanks to the effort and love shown by everyone; but this one in particular, the celebration in which I
turned sixteen will always be one to remember.
The ORIGINAL plan was to to go to a restaurant to eat before going to see any movie that was was
out at that time with a bunch of friends. Mind you, me and my friends are not the most organized
bunch of people so even doing this simple of a task was going to take some work. The week before,
I had loosely let them know what was going to happen and had asked a few of them to look at movie
theaters which would be able to seat all of us at about 8pm as well as a restaurant which would be
able to accommodate all of us with good food, and of which would also be able to get us out of there
quick enough to watch the movie. Naturally, we came

Descriptive Essay About My Seventeenth Birthday
I flipped through the pages of the travel brochure aimlessly. It was horrible, traveling to Hawaii in
the middle of December seemed foolish. I tossed the brochure abruptly in the trash can and reached
for another. As foolish as traveling to Hawaii in December may sound, I am eager to finally leave
my life in Los Angles for a while. Things get really crazy around here in December; with
preparations for Christmas, and not to mention my birthday coming up on the twenty–first. Since we
are traveling the day before my seventeenth birthday I am going to miss all the birthday
celebrations, which I am thrilled about. I've always hated my birthday because December just isn't
the ideal month for birthdays. It's too cold to do anything worth having ... Show more content on

I also began worrying myself about my 'right of passage,' what if I'm not ready and I disappoint
everyone. Days before the travel day, I started to worry myself about the plane ride to Hawaii. I
never traveled nor did anything spontaneous. However, I decided to give into my family's pep talks
and try something new. I held on tight to my passport, nervously staring at the boarding pass in my
hand. I was anxious, I started to shake impatiently while waiting for our flight to board. It was
Tuesday, December 20th today, it seemed like any other day, but after today I felt my life would
change forever since it is my seventeenth birthday. I nervously followed my family to the gate as I
placed my headphones over my head and turned on my favorite song. My family and I had been
separated into different seats in the plane, which left me all alone. As I took my seat on the plane, I
reminded myself when we land it will already be my birthday. As I was settling into my seat a young
man threw his bags on the seat next to mine. He began to eat something and introduced himself as
Conrad Fisher with a mouth full of chips. He made me want to cringe, especially while seated on a
plane. I woke up from my nap as the plane was landing realizing it was my birthday, there was a
heavy shock of turbulence and my head began to spin and a single tear came down my cheek. This

My Experience Of My Birthdays
Do you ever have an experience that destroys something that you had cherished for so long? There
have been lots of times in my life that I have been confronted with situations that changed the way I
viewed myself and others, there is one distinct time that I remember abruptly changing my
viewpoint, and finally learning some very important messages. On the particular day, my birthday, I
had one of the most confusing, irritating, frustrating, eye–opening days of my life. A day I will
remember for as long as I live. Birthdays were an event that I had been associated with excitement
and anticipation in the years prior to my 7th birthday, after that, they were ruined forever.
On this special day, I woke up to breakfast in bed, a family tradition. My mom had asked me earlier
that week what I wanted for my birthday breakfast and I had responded with the same breakfast that
everyone in my family asks for, cinnamon rolls. Skip ahead to the next morning, having just woken
up, being presented with a plate of pancakes... What? I was confused. I thought, There must be some
mistake. I looked around hoping to see another plate with warm gooey rolls of dough smothered in
sugar placed on it. To my dismay, there was not.
Oh. I guess maybe mom didn't hear me when I said I wanted cinnamon rolls, I wondered, but how
could she not have? It's the same breakfast all of us ask for.
This start to my day was not at all what I was expecting, but I convinced myself that it was just an

"Happy Birthday Mariam!" screamed my entire family as I blew out five candles on a delectable

"Look at you all grown up! And to think that only yesterday you were a cute little baby!" said my
grandma as she kissed my cheek and handed me my birthday present.
"Thank you so much!" was all I could say. I was overwhelmed with the large pile of presents I had
received.
I can still remember that moment as clear as day. How can I ever forget it? It was one of the very
last days I had spent in my beautiful home country, Egypt. I was born and raised in Alexandria,
Egypt. I loved it with all my heart. So, no wonder it came as a huge shock when I heard the dreadful

"Whoosh," was the sound the airplane had made as it took off. Afterwards, with the comfy airplane
seat and quiet whirring sound of the engine, I fell asleep. The next thing I remember was waking in
a strange–looking, dark, empty room. It was broiling and very humid. The scorching sun was
peeking out from behind the curtains.
"This is it," I whispered with a huge grin on my face. "This is Saudi Arabia!"
Indeed, it was the magnificent Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. And little did I know that it would become
my second home. Within Saudi Arabia itself, our family moved only three times. It wasn't too bad
since they were all in the same area. I attended Orbit International School where I learned to become
a genius, and met people from all over the Arab world, with different yet fascinating cultures. That
was the point of my life where most of my complex Arabic and English languages had developed.
But what mattered to me the most was that we visited Egypt every single summer! It was absolutely
phenomenal.
In the beginning of the year 2014, my dad announced that his period of time that was dedicated to
working in Saudi Arabia was now officially completed. And best of all, that meant that we were

Happy Birthday
One bright Saturday morning, I woke up, and walked down stairs into the living room and kitchen.
The house was decorated with balloons and a big streamer that said '' Happy Birthday!'' It was my
seventh birthday. A rush of excitement flowed through me. Where was my parents? They might still
be sleeping, I thought.
A little while later, I heard my parents walking down the stairs. '' Happy Birthday!'' They said. I got
up from watching television and hugged them. '' Your party will start at two thirty,'' my mom said. ''
Ok! '' I replied, excited.
As we got prepared for the party, setting out all the food, moving the furniture in a more unique
position. By the time we finished, it was only one 'o' clock. Since we still had a hour and a half, I
used my remaining time to shower, get some good clothes on, and comb my hair. When I went back
down stairs, it was already two. '' when does the party end?'' I asked. '' It ends at five thirty,'' she
said. '' Oh. Okay!'' I replied.
Now, it was almost two thirty. We only had invited a couple people, and some neighbors. A sound of
a car driving by pulled my mind back to reality. '' Is that one of my friends?'' I asked my dad. '' Mm,
no I've seen that car parked in the neighborhood before. '' my dad replied. ''Oh. '' I said, a little
disappointed. '' Don't worry, there will be people here soon, it's almost time." he said reassuringly.
The first person had come. It was one of my school friends. For a little

The Importance Of Birthdays In American Culture
In American culture, birthdays are an important event and celebrated in many ways. Birthdays are
more than just singing "Happy Birthday". Celebrating one's birthday whether it be a first birthday, a
thirteenth birthday, a sixteenth birthday, a twenty first birthday or an fiftieth birthday are all often
substantial and considered to be an accomplishment. Birthdays may just be any other day in any
other culture but, the American culture does more to celebrate one's day of birth and often celebrates
them by going over the top. A birthday, commonly known as an occasion, is a celebration of the day
of which a person was born. The definition may seem simple but, Americans make a an ordinary day
something extraordinary. A first birthday in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Years with more responsibility and something every kid looks forward too. For some reason being a
teenager is so much cooler than being an eleven or twelve year old. Celebrations often include
friends and more expensive parties that symbolize growing up. I'm talking about sleeping over a
friends house for a night to eat a whole bunch of junk food, watch scary movies and stay up super
late. Weird, right?
Although the celebration of a thirteenth birthday are comparable to those of previous years, once a
person turns sixteen, it's like a whole new world. In the American culture a sixteenth birthday is
where a teenager starts to transition into an adult. Most of the time girls celebrate the beginning of
becoming a woman with a huge party called a "Sweet 16". A sweet 16 is thrown to show how
beautiful of a girl she has become and what an amazing woman she will become. This event can
either be formal or in formal but normally consist of bright colored, long, puffy dresses that help the
girl stand out from her guests. The number of guests normally range from 70 to 200. But, I could
only imagine how expensive this actually is. Paying for, what sounds like an expensive dress, to
paying for a venue, to paying to feed guests and even decorations to go along with a possible theme
can most definitely add up and seems to be just way over the top for a birthday party. Although gifts
are given and often

Narrative Essay About My Birthday
It was a beautiful day, everything was still and quiet. It was perfect. Unfortunately, perfect never last
very long. Suddenly the alarm on my watch started to make a horrible, loud beeping sound. That
meant Kayla would be here any second. But what if she wasn't there that one day, the day of my
birthday. I continued to ask myself if that horrifying day would have turned out different.
I worked as an accountant in a city office for about 6 years. But since I didn't have a car I carpooled
with my best friend Kayla. Of course, Kayla was early and had already been waiting for me.
"Happy Birthday!" said Kayla.
"Thanks," I said and she handed me a sparkly pink gift bag and a birthday card.
"Come on, you could be a little more excited," she said.
"Not when I have to go to work," I had said with a little smile.
"You're not going to open it?" she asked defensively.
"No, I'll open it when I get home," I had said.
Then she gave me this strange look and said okay. I can't really describe the look she had given me
all that well. Although her eyes seemed to appear cold and loathsome. We had been friends since we
first started working in the city office. I knew every last thing about her. That's what made it so hard
for me to believe she would do the thing that she did. However, I had felt like our friendship seemed
a little off.

Planning A Mexican Birthday Party
Planning a Mexican Birthday party is no easy task, there are multiple factors that go into doing so.
Not only does it require a couple days of planning, but if done poorly, it will turn out the same. You
see in a Mexican party, one does not care about the content or what the family can provide. Rather,
they care about what they can contribute to make the party happen. The same can be said for a
birthday party. One does not spend weeks planning unless it's needed. Instead, you just decide on
what you want, and ask for the help of all your family members who will gladly help (in) any way
they can. It's for this reason that these birthday parties are so symbolic, because they bring family
together to celebrate someone's significant day of birth. The first step in planning the Perfect
Mexican birthday party is to invite your closest family members, this often means you're brothers
and sisters alongside cousins. People from outside the family are generally not invited and are
shunned if they do attend. The reason behind this is that Hispanic families tend to have family
oriented parties because this brings a sense of family bonding and togetherness. To begin the
invitation process, you will often call one family member who will then spread the news around,
effectively acting as an invitation to the whole family. Following this, one must effectively create a
music playlist. Creating a music play list full of Hispanic songs is essential for an enthusiastic party.

Personal Narrative : My Birthday Party
It was hot, sticky, and humid as I walked towards the park where Carly was having her birthday
party. I had no desire to go there in the first place, for it was not only the hottest day of summer, but
my mother had made me walk there since she had to take the car. Carly wasn't even my friend, my
best friend Emma and I are just nice to her because she doesn't really have friends. That's one reason
for why she's usually the topic of conversation back at school, that and the fact that she doesn't
exactly look like "ninth grade material". Besides, she is the mayor's daughter, so I felt like I had no
choice but to go. I kept brushing the sweaty hair off of my face. Why couldn't this stupid party be
during summer instead of right when school started?
When I arrived at the park, Emma ran towards me and whispered "Sarah, thank heavens you're here,
I thought you wouldn't come after all". I hugged her. "No, I wouldn't leave you here alone", I said,
only half joking. We both giggled and slowly headed towards the party.
When we both arrived at the canopy where the party was at, Carly immediately approached me and
gave me a bear hug. I was instantly filled with anxiety, as the hug lasted for way longer then I was
expecting.
"Um.....hi Carly, Happy Birthday!", I said, as she released me from her grip and I could breathe
again. "I'm so glad you made it!", she cried. " Now everyone is here!" I instantly shot a look of guilt
at Emma– our expressions proved we were both thinking the same thing: we were the only ones
coming. To prove our claim, I asked Carly, "So when are the other girls coming?". I realized I made
a mistake by asking her that, because she immediately frowned. "What's wrong?", Emma asked. She
shot me a look that said what were you thinking Sarah? I mouthed the word sorry and Carly started
speaking. "Well, it's just that I don't think the other girls like me very much. I heard them call me
'weird' and 'socially awkward' behind my back the other day when I was going to remind them to
RSVP.", she replied.
The guilt knot in my stomach grew tighter and I started to feel queasy. I felt terrible for not wanting
to go. I'm such a horrible person, I thought.

Rachel King 40th Birthday
October 24, 2016 marks one week before Jack's 40th birthday. Like any other little girl would be,
seven year old Rachel King was preparing her father's birthday present to top all of her family and
relatives. As Rachel's mom, Natalia, came in with a plate piled up with Halloween cookies, she
looked down at the kitchen table to see nothing but an assortment of different colored glitters and
stickers. What more would a father want than a card full of glittery stickers? Seven year old Rachel
King was sitting at the dining room setting up her crafting supplies when Natalia strolled by to turn
the news on. In flashing lights, the tv read, "BREAKING NEWS. BREAKING NEWS." Apparently,
their neighbor had passed away on his 40th birthday a few hours ago due to a fire started by a
birthday candle his family was sure he had blown out the night before. Speaking of it, this had been
the fourth birthday death reported on their 40th birthday. Even at such a young age, Rachel knew it
was a trend and her father would be next. All throughout the streets of Long Beach wandered young
adults and kids without a glimpse of a middle aged or old man to be seen. Such a small difference

remember abruptly changing my view, and finally learning some very important messages. On the
particular day that my eyes were opened, my birthday, I had one of the most confusing, irritating,
frustrating days of my life. A day I will remember for as long as I live. Birthdays were an event that
I had so dearly cherished before this one, my 7th birthday, after that, they were ruined forever.
I woke up to "Happy Birthday" accompanied with breakfast in bed, a family tradition. My mom had
asked me earlier that week what I wanted for my birthday breakfast and I had responded with the
obvious, the breakfast that everyone in my family asks for, cinnamon rolls. So skip ahead to the next
morning when I had just woken up was presented with a plate of pancakes... what? I was confused, I
thought, there must be some mistake.
Oh. I guess maybe mom didn't hear me when I said I wanted cinnamon rolls, but how could she not?
And of all things how did she not remember that I'm not even a fan of pancakes. I thought. This start
to my day was not at all what I was hoping for but I kept my head up and ignored the voices

Essay About My Birthday
It was about three days before one of the most important people of my life birthday was here. On
October 1st, it would be my mom's birthday. For the past few years, I haven't had enough money to
buy my mom a gift. So, At the start of a preparing for her birthday, I didn't really plan to do anything
for her birthday. All I was going to do was buy her a present and write a card and give it to her. This
time, with my younger sister's help, I did even more.
On Thursday, My auntie and my sister invited me to come along to the mall so they could go buy
my mom her presents. The place we went to was a sort of an outside mall. I thought this would be
the perfect moment to buy her a special birthday gift. I had $70 in my pocket, so I had enough
money to buy a charm for my mother from pandora. We walked a short distance from where we
parked to the Pandora store. Whilst my sister looked for a charm, I already had the perfect charm in
mind, an October Signature Heart charm. We brought the charms and headed to Rainbows. When
we got there, I help my sister pick out an outfit for my mom. When she finally picked two outfits,
she went to go find shoes and I went to the jewelry section and picked out a cute necklace with
matching earrings and bracelet. Once we started heading back to the car, it started raining. It took us
about 30 minutes to get to the car in the rain. I told them don't tell my mom anything, it's a surprise,
then we drove home.
When I woke up the Friday morning I

"Happy Birthday", my mom screamed out and scared me the morning of June 9. But it was
surprising and nice of her since she wished me before anyone else. It was my eighteen birthday and
it was my day. While looking out the big windows in my room, I thought to myself, I will do what
satisfies me today, but wasn't quite sure what? I didn't receive any calls from my friends, or other
relatives. Nobody was home either besides my mom with whom I can't make plans because she got
her own work to do. It depressed me because it seemed like this was going to be one boring eighteen
birthday.
After half an hour of waiting for someone to call and my sister and dad to come home also thinking

One from my boyfriend and the other my friend wishing me happy birthday. It was great to hear
from them finally. That's when I called my boyfriend to hang out. Unfortunately he said he was
busy, I was very disappointed.
It was 2:00pm, I spent almost the whole day roaming around the house doing nothing, just thinking
about everyone else. How come everyone was busy today? I assumed half of my friends forgot it
was my birthday. At 3:45pm our door bell rang. Out of curiosity I ran downstairs to check and it was
my childhood friend Trisha. While wishing me happy birthday, she gave me a friendly hug. Then we
went to my room. There she took out pictures from when we were young, candy jewelry we played
with when we were young. It was basically a reminder to me that no matter how old any of us get,
we'll always be stupid little kids at heart and will stick together. It was a wonderful and a thoughtful
gift, but that was not it. She went outside to her car to get something, and when she returned it was
another gift, a beautiful blue dress with a design coming out from the left side and a slight cut on
both sides.
Trisha stayed at my house up to 7:00pm. We talked, ate snacks, watched T.V, and had a lot of fun. It
would have been more fun if my sister and friends were here. At 7:15pm Trisha told me to change
into the dress she got me, and that we were going to go out.

A Birthday Cake Short Story
A young boy, Scotty, is involved in a hit and run car accident on his birthday as he walks to school
on a Monday morning. Scotty dies three days later as a result of occlusion, which doctors say would
have been prevented had it been recognized earlier. Scotty's mother, Ann Weiss, who is interactive
and loves making friends, had ordered a sixteen–dollar cake on Saturday for his son's eighth
birthday, which scheduled to take place on a Monday from a taciturn baker whom he left her
telephone number. The baker, oblivious of Scotty's accident and demise, makes harassing calls to
Scotty's home asking them to pick up their three–day–old cake. The story ends with the baker being
rueful and asking for forgiveness for how he treated the Weiss family stating that it was a result of
solitude and childlessness. Indeed, one needs to be kind to others as everyone we come across is
fighting their battle.
The story brings compassion and friendliness to the characters. At the beginning of the story when
ordering a birthday cake, Ann Weiss tries to engage the baker in a conversation, but his quiet nature
makes her wonder if he has ever had anything else to do in his life apart from baking. Because of his
quiet reaction, she gives up making friends with him. Her compassionate nature is also seen when
she inadvertently steps into a little waiting room while looking for an elevator, and Franklin's family
thinks that she is the nurse, asking about his condition. They narrate to her how he was

My Birthday
My eighteenth birthday was probably the worst I ever came to know. I expected so much because in
some degree I was grown, in the eyes of the law. I wanted everything to be perfect and everyone to
be happy. Clarence, my boyfriend, took me out for lunch. We ended up going to a place where his
ex–girlfriend worked.
I wasn't very pleased to see her face and it was very uncomfortable for me to enjoy my meal while I
knew she was there. She treated him poorly in their relationship, and then they had something going
on while he and I were together, so I didn't like her one bit. I didn't receive any type of presents
beside my lunch (which was uncomfortable) and a dinner my mother made me. I was also still
expecting some Valentine's Day gift too since my birthday is only four days after it. I asked for the
usual; bear, chocolate, and flowers and still had my hopes up on my birthday thinking Clarence was
going to surprise me, but I was wrong and her did no such thing. I cried more than once because I
expected so much and got so little.
It was a very emotional day for me. I was also pregnant and got to find out the gender of my child.
"It's a girl!" I hear the doctor say. That was the highlight of my day. Seventy percent of my day was
so horrible that I remember wishing I didn't care so much about my birthdays, that way I wouldn't
have been so hurt at the end.
My best birthday was when I turned nineteen. My boyfriend's taxes came in, I got a car, clothes,

Essay About My Birthday
I was so happy that today had finally arrived; our 18th birthday! Not only were we happy, but so
glad to finally be able to have the Dodge Challenger's our parents got us for our first car! Raven and
I were so alike in many ways, mostly because we were born as twins. I always look up to Raven,
mostly, because he is my cool twin brother, and because he was a great role model to look up to,
even if he is my twin brother.
We look forward to this day for months on end, because today we would be able to open our
$50,000 presents that our parents bought us, and because we were finally going to see our relatives
from Florida. When they got off the plane from Florida we happily greeted them with smiles and
open arms. Once we were home from the airport, Raven and I were surprised with a surprise party.
We were in such surprise that we didn't know how to react to the warm welcome home. All of our
friends were at the party, even Raven's girlfriend. All of our friends had filled up the house, along
with some of their parents. Our aunt Traci and uncle Jeff had made an appearance at the party, but
was with the dad majority of the party. With only an hour left of the party our cousin Dimitri had
shown up for work. Raven and I ran over to our cousin happily knowing that the party had to
continue now that he was at the party.

Silence In The Birthday Party
Technically, silence can be defined as the absolute absense of sound. In human interaction, however,
the boundaries of this definition may fade. In that case, it is not the total absense of sound but the
absense of speech that determines the silence within a conversation. According to Harold Pinter, this
conversational silence can be divided into two categories: "one when no word is spoken. The other
when perhaps a torrent of language is being employed". In other words, one kind of silence occurs
when two people are quiet and not talking to one another. The other, the "torrent of language",
concerns what can be read between the lines, or the real truth behind what is being said. This latter
may not be a genuine silence, but in Pinter's plays, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Written in 1957, a fearful time of oppression and censorship, "The Birthday Party" explores this
theme through Stanley's futile efforts to stand up for himself against the ones he feared most. Even
though his fate remains unknown, as well as the actual reason for Goldberg and McCann's presence,
fact is that his mental breakdown seems to represent the state of mind of the people of America at
the time. In alignment to the impending doom Stanley felt throughout the play, resulting in him
basically losing his voice, the people could not fight the terrors of the Cold War and the other wars
going on at the time. They were not allowed to resist their government, as that could very well be
their own end as well as their country's. As Charles Grimes states in his "Harold Pinter's Politics: A
Silence Beyond Echo", "virtually all of Pinter's political works end in some variant of this painful,
double–edged silence" (49). By this, he asserts that there are two sides to Stanley's silence: "[it] is
both absolute and complex; it also represents the necessity of a futile resistance to all analogous
brutalities" (49). Therefore, silence and resistance go hand–in–hand, as silence is nothing but the
unspoken

What Is The Birthday Paradox
INTRODUCTION
The birthday paradox, also known as the birthday problem, states that in a random gathering of 23
people, there is a 50% chance that two people will have the same birthday. Is this really true? With
23 people there's a 50–50 chance of two people having the same birthday. In a room of 75 there's a
99.9% chance of two people matching. "Birthday paradox is strange, counter–intuitive, and
completely true. It's only a "paradox because our brains can't handle the compounding power of
exponents." How is this possible? The math behind the birthday paradox has to do with probability.
It is important to take in consideration, that in order to find out the probability of people who has the
same birthday, what is the probability that they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the probability he would fin is 2/529. This, however, differentiates from the original way
of solving because in order to find the probability you would divide the number of days in a year !
(365!) over the number of days in a year minus the number of people in the room, 365!/342!
Divided by (365)^23 would give you .491266 which is equivalent to 49%. After that you would
subtract the percent given (49.12%) from 100% which would give you 50.88%. The difference in
how that was figured out was that there is a formula that makes things more useful. Another method
that was considered when trying to find the answer to the "Birthday Paradox", was pairing up the
number of people with the number of days. For example, on examination can be trying to find the 1
out of the 10 people that shares a birthday with someone else out of 4 days in a year.So you would

The Birthday Party By Harold Pinter
Harold Pinter's The Birthday Party is a play which sheds light on the pathology of abjection and
violence both physical and verbal and its effect on its victim – Stanley– the protagonist of the play.
Stanley is an artist who has isolated himself from a totalitarian state or organization for reasons left
undisclosed in the play by Pinter. Since Pinter as a Jew grew up during the time of the Holocaust
and the Second World War, Stanley seems to represent the author's existential anxiety. It can be
assumed that the fear of the materiality and fragility of identity and existence caused by totalitarian
states and social pathologies like War, Holocaust, poverty, racial discrimination or any human rights
abuse causes Stanley to become paranoid and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I don 't think it is all that surrealistic and curious because surely this thing, of people arriving at the
door, has been happening in Europe in the last twenty years. (qtd. in Esslin 36)
This knock at the door is suggestive of the trepidation and helplessness felt by the Jewish
communities in Europe on account of the genocide triggered during the Nazi regime. The knocking
device is also indicative of an entry into the world of the abject to destroy its threatening
physiognomies and to force it to conform to the prevailing norms and standards of the society. When
the door is opened two mysterious emissaries, Goldberg and McCann enter and along with them
enters the menace which destabilizes the miserable apathy of the boarding house and Stanley's
initial hostile melancholy transitions later into a nervous breakdown. Goldberg and McCann who
represent an unnamed organization come to the boarding house to do a job. Pinter as usual does not
tell the readers what their job actually is and what the organization stands for. He deliberately leaves
out the details so that the readers can question the legality and sanctity of the building blocks of all
organizations social, political, cultural etc. Likewise Pinter does not give any information about
Stanley's past. Though the present is an outcome of past contemplations and actions, Pinter does not
reveal the past as he wants the audience to think about the various

birthday party
"Birthday Party" by Katherine Brush uses literary devices such as tone, point of view, diction, and
sensory details to achieve her purpose. The title of this short story is very deceiving the tone is
different from the tone of the story. The tone changes from happy to sad as soon as the cake is
brought out. The women tried to show affection and love towards her husband by the cake but it was
basically turned down. The point of view is through a random person who doesn't know the couple
at all. The speaker doesn't know how they are as a couple but can see that the woman is upset at her
husband's reaction to the cake. "You looked at him and you saw this and you thought, "Oh, now,

People in the restaurant give a polite and almost desperate applause, but the husband is "hotly
embarrassed" (line twelve about his wife 's "little surprise". In the final paragraph, Brush clearly
reveals her sentiments about the husband 's response, coloring him as cruel and "unkind" (line
eighteen). The line "You looked at him and you saw this and you thought, 'Oh, now don 't be like
that!" and the author 's italicization of the word "be" implies a certain amount of disgust for a
husband who is trying to crush his wife 's jovial spirit. With a spit of contempt, Brush adds that "he
was like that" (line fifteen), intensifying her anger and disapprobation of his meanness. Brush
supplies a list of words to describe what the husband muttered to his wife as "some punishing thing,
quick and curt and unkind" (line eighteen). The lengthened syntax in this sentence has the feel of the
husband 's criticism of his wife for essentially being sweet to him. He comes off as a nasty man too
concerned with his macho, stoical reputation to take a moment to be nice to his wife and thank her
for remembering his birthday. "Birthday Party" is an ironic story with an ironic title. What this
husband and wife experience is certainly no party, but merely another miserable episode in their

Personal Narrative : My 13th Birthday Party
There are plenty of memories that I can think of that I want to write about, but I'm going to pick my
13th birthday party. The reason I am picking this is because I really enjoyed myself during this time.
I got to spend time with friends and family all day, and I also got a bunch of presents. There were
times where I got scared and times where I was laughing hysterically. I believe on October 11th,
2014 I had my 13th birthday party, this was one of the funniest days of my life. I just had a few
friends come over. My friends were Felix, Adrielle, Christian, Trenton, and Matthew. They have
been my friends pretty much all my life at this point. I met all of them in kindergarten, they've been
my friends ever since. They all came over at different times early in the morning. Felix was the first
one to come over so we went fishing until everyone else arrived. While we were fishing we saw a
grass carp, which is a huge fish, but Felix really wanted to catch it. He ended up getting a huge fish
on the line but he wasn't able to bring it in, the fish broke the line. He was upset because he thinks
that he actually had the grass carp on the line, but i feel like he just had a big catfish on the line.
When everyone else arrived it was around noon. This is the time we started to set up the tents and
get everything ready for the night. When we were getting everything ready for the night we got into
groups to do specific tasks. Christian and I went to get firewood, Felix

My Birthdays
Do you ever think to yourself that some of your birthdays are more valuable than others? Personally,
I happen to think some of my birthdays aren't as much fun as when I was six years old. Currently, I

party an outstanding time! Her name was Betty, and she was made up to portray a clown. Betty had
paint with her, so she painted all the children's faces. I believe she had painted a pink butterfly on
my face and my father had painted his face as Spider Man. I also recall playing many games, it just
happened to be musical chairs that I won. For my prize, I had to pick out of a huge surprise box. I
was very happy with my prize because I had won myself a Snow White game for my Gameboy.
Some of the girls got a bit jealous and would say that the clown would only let me win because it

Argumentative Essay : My Birthdays In High School
My birthday falls on the last week of school most of the time. It doesn't really matter to me though,
my family always celebrates it and gets me donuts in the morning before school. This last year,
freshman year, was also the year that my sister, Hanna, with no h, mind you, graduated from high
school. Graduation was just a few days after my birthday, so I was a little bothered with the fact that
none of my extended family that came for Hanna's graduation remembered my birthday. The day of
my birthday, the little Facebook notification popped up on people's screens telling all of my
Facebook friends that it was my birthday. I got a whole 16 posts on my timeline from my Facebook
friends! My aunt and uncle from Texas came for her graduation, and it wasn't until they went out to
get my sister a graduation gift at Target that they had actually been reminded, by me, that it was my
birthday and decided to buy me a "Star Wars" birthday card with Chewbacca on the front. I didn't
get donuts that morning.
Of course, all of my friends wished me happy birthday on the day of, the first being Emily through a
text filled with capital letters and an abundance of emojis screaming at me sent at 12:10 am. I don't
normally have a birthday party during school since my birthday is at the end of the school year, so I
told my friends I was going to have my party in June.

Narrative Essay About Birthdays
Everyone gets excited when their birthday is coming up. There are just some birthdays that you can't
forget for years to come. It was the month of May and I was very excited to end school because I
was promised a birthday at the beach. My birthday is during the summer that means fun under the
sun. Looking at the clock I was minutes away from traveling to Mexico. When I finally heard the
bell ring I rushed myself outside to the student pick up for 5th graders, waiting for my mom.
Going to my house getting ready to pack to Mexico. At that time, it was tough to go to Mexico
because of the corruption with criminal organizations going on everywhere. Many travelers weren't
really going to Mexico because they were scared what could happened. It was our second time
going over to Rockypoint to visit my dad's side of the family. We were all packed and finally hitting
the road. At least it's not far from Arizona.
Once we got there, well there wasn't many people around and you can feel some tension in air.
When we reached my grandma's house I was already happy for my birthday on Saturday. For now, I
was the one getting all the attention from everyone. My aunts and uncles would buy me everything I
wanted from food to toys. I was just waiting for all the birthday presents I would get. Of course, let's

Birthday surprises usually put a smile on someone's face, the person gets excited that others possibly
strangers can join in on their day of birth. In the short story "Birthday Party," Katharine Brush
depicts a special birthday surprise a woman plans for her husband that would feel excited. However,
Brush highlights the unwanted actions that occur through using imagery, diction, and appealing to
one's emotions. First, Brush uses imagery when describing the average couple that walks into the
restaurant. She explains, " The man had a round, self–satisfied face, with glasses on it, the woman
was fadingly pretty, in a big hat. There was nothing conspicuous about them." She describes the
couple as an ordinary couple that walks into a restaurant

Narrative Essay About A Birthday Day
"What are you guys talking about?" I questioned.
Mom replied, " Well, me and your dad was talking about what we were going to do for your
birthday." I was six years old and I lived in Charleston, West Virginia, and my parents having my
birthday party for me. So, my mom called some of her friends and I texted some of my friends too
because I wanted to have fun with them, it was summer time. So, we started with some friends over
then a little more people started to come. After ever one was there my mom got the chocolate cake
and strawberry ice cream from the store that she had ordered and she got some food to, she got hot
dogs, hot dogs buns, two bags of family size chips, MTW Dew, Dr. Pepper, Sprit, water, some cups,
and some dip for your chips. When she got back we was playing and I saw my mom pulled in the
drive way and I helped her with the groceries and helped her out with some things when she got
home. So, when I was helping her and my aunt saw me helping my mom getting groceries out of the
car and putting them away.
My aunt told me, " Go play with your friends it's your birthday. Go be a kid."
I replied, "Okay, but at least can I put up the groceries for my mom, please."
Aunt declined, " No! Go do what I was asked you to do, you might not have another fun birthday
party like this one."
I answered, "Alright I will go but can I just get these last few groceries.
Aunt replied, " Go on now before I whoop your butt."
So, I went on playing with my friends, we were

My Memorable 5th Birthday Party Experience at Montessori School

  • 1. My Birthday Experience Growing up i learned that i needed to mature at a younger age compared to my peers. I understood that a low–income, minority i needed to work hard to achieve my goals. One experience that shaped my life happened this past year. My family and I were evicted from our home a couple of days before my birthday and right before the holiday season. This made me stronger but it also changed something inside me. I learned that life isn't a game and that i should be grateful for what i have, because one day I could lose it all. A couple of days before my birthday my mother asked me "Que quieres hacer para tu cumpleanos?" I was thrilled to tell my mom what I had in mind for my birthday. Enthusiastically I answered "I want to invite my friends over, go to the park, and then come back home for the birthday cake. I remember inviting all my friends over for my party. I had always been invited to my friends birthday parties but this year I was hosting my own. My mom knew my favorite football team was the Houston Texans and she wanted the theme show. Before my birthday she ordered a huge Houston Texans theme cake, a Texans pinata, and decorations. I knew this day was going to be perfect, and nothing could ruin it. On December 19th, the day before my birthday I woke up with a feeling of enthusiasm rushing through my body. At that point, i had told myself "Wow! I've never felt this much excitement before." I rushed out of bed and started to text my friends, they were all super pumped about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Narrative Essay On My Birthday People in the wonderful United States of American look forward to celebrating their birthday. Some people may wonder what did happen on their special day throughout history. I have wondered about if any significant events that could have happened on my birthday, and through my research, I have discovered several notable events that happened on February 2nd. On the day, Friday February 2nd, 2001 I was born in Asheville, North Carolina. The high for the day was 49 degrees, and the low was 22. There are approximately 19 million people I share a birthday with, and one of those million people happened to be my twin sister. During my mothers 9 months of pregnancy, I was twin A and my sister was twin B. The day we was born my twin flipped over me; therefore, I was born second and my twin was born first. We were born on groundhogs day. My name Holli came from the holly tree, which has sharp–pointed glossy leaves. This is symbolic toward my personality ironically. My last name Gouge came from a surname is medieval English. The words "gobha", and "goff" both mean iron worker. My family could've assisted in the building of the Golden Gate Bridge. On September 11th, 2001 the world trade centers came tumbling down. I was only seven months old. The World Trade Center attack was a devastating, and horrific attack. This horrendous attack claimed the lives of 2,996 people. As a nation we celebrate the lives lost every year, on September 11th. However, for the family they do such ... • 5. Analysis Of Ted Kooser 's ' A Birthday Card ' Essay Love is Strong and Unexplainable In Ted Kooser's "A Birthday Card", the poet is expressing how much his aunt cares about and loves him. This poem is about the relationship between the poet and his aunt show in this birthday card. Even though his aunt is very sick and weak, she still trying her best to write him a birthday card and wishes him with love. The setting for this poem is in poet's forty–fourth birthday, his aunt who is in her eighties with a lot of illness and still uses all of her strength to write this birthday wishes to him. In this poem, the poet uses the third person point of view to describe the birthday card and the love though it from his aunt. This poem does not have several stanzas. It is a one piece, unbroken and continuous poem. The poet is writing this poem mainly from his feeling to tell his reader how great his aunt is. Ted Kooser always writes his poem from his past experiences and life events. In this poem, he is using the birthday card to show the reader one of the important person appears in his life and what did that person do to touches his heart. This poem is about the love from his aunt and how the poet expresses it on a short length poem. Kooser's theme in this poem is about love can overcome sickness or the strong love inside the family bond nothing can block the love away. • 7. Analysis Of Happy Birthday By Lispector The story I have chosen to close read and argue from is "Happy Birthday" by Clarice Lispector. The story begins with the description of various family members. The family has come together in order to celebrate the birthday of the mother of the story. This ranges from wives to daughters to grandchildren. It takes a third person point of view as it explains each person's standpoint entering the home. There is a great divide amongst the children and their wives. It left the reader wondering what caused this family to be discontent within themselves and their family. Half of the story, the mother is silent. She doesn't greet her family as they push her off as incompetent or too old to adhere to their words. The story then focuses on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their presence or approval is crucial in a child's development. There is the stereotype that mothers are the nurturing ones. Anita does not play into this as she thinks of her children as the "spineless lot", "weak creatures with their limp arms and anxious faces", "jostling rats", "communists", and "bitter and unhappy fruits" (Lispector 80). She criticizes them harshly for what they have become and only finds value in her seven–year–old grandson. It is obvious that the father was the supportive role as she describes him as "a good man whom, submissive yet independent, she had respected...given her children and support and honored his obligations", which displays that the father was not a factor (Lispector 80). Her sons' wives weren't spared either as she calls them "feeble and bitter". How did she become this way? Was her mother this harsh? We may never know, but in some cases, it is the continuation of mothers. In the documentary, "Look at Us No, Mother!" directed by Gayle Kirschenbaum, Gayle walks through her life to attempt to understand and explain why her mother hated her. It wasn't until adulthood that Gayle discovered that her grandmother treated her mother the same way. This brings to light that Anita's mother could have been the same way and Anita became her mother. Anita was raised with an ideal image of what her son should be. Only Jonga fit the bill and this built his confidence. However, this resulted in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. How Does Brush Use Literary Devices In The Birthday Party A birthday party regarding the age is always a nice gesture to have, and a great way to celebrate a birthday. A simple birthday cake can be really meaningful to a person on their birthday. In the short story "The Birthday Party" by Katharine Brush, however she demonstrates that a relationship that does not take consideration and does not appreciate what their partner does for them, is a relationship that is not worth it. She gets this message across, using literary devices such as imagery, alliteration, and symbolism. Imagery is a source used for the author to get her point across because we get to see a visual in our minds. For example when Brush is describing the characters, she states, "The man had a round, self–satisfied face, with glasses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. My First Birthday Party At A Montessori School Before my fifth birthday, I grew up a very happy little girl in a very large four–story home. I attended a Montessori school housed in a two–room little red schoolhouse complete with a school bell on the roof. My parents were both very attractive and successful entrepreneurs who loved me very much. For my fifth birthday, they decided that they were going to invite my entire kindergarten class from my Montessori school, around 25 students and 2 teachers, to my fifth birthday party. They set up the backyard with games designed for five–year–olds. One of which was my favorite, Pin–the–Tail–on–the–Donkey. You see, I mastered this game at the birthday parties I attended prior by adjusting the blindfold in such a way where I could see a little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The games began, and I was so excited. It was my turn to play Pin–the–Tail–on–the–Donkey! So far, everyone's tails were way off the mark from the donkey's butt. I knew I could do better than all of them. My dad spun me around three times. Tail in hand, I itched my face in a manner where I was able to adjust the blindfold. Now, I could see out of the bottom a little, and I walked in the direction I was sure was forward toward the donkey's butt. I placed the tail, and I took a few steps back. My dad lifted the blindfold from my head to reveal that my tail had been placed nowhere near the donkey's butt! In fact, it wasn't even on the donkey's picture. I began to cry. I screamed, "You moved it! You moved it!" at my father. I was convinced that he did not want me to have the toys I picked out so much that he sabotaged the game. He didn't want me to win. I ran screaming and crying to my mother. "Mom! Mom! Daddy doesn't want me to win. He doesn't want me to have the toys I picked out." My father came running after me. My mother turned to my father, "What did you do to her?" My father tried to explain, but before his side could be heard my mother snapped at him. "Gary, you ruin everything!" How could you upset our little girl on her birthday?!" I was quiet; we all were. My mother had spoken so harshly to my father without even hearing his side to the story. I realized in that moment I was wrong. I shouldn't have wanted the toys so much when I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. My Birthday Is Important To Me Sixteen Birthdays have always been a thing of great importance to me. Whether it's me or any of my close friends and or family, I always have thought that birthdays and the aspect of remembering someone elses are the most important thing someone can do for a person. No matter the age whether 6, 10, or 85, doing it big and celebrating for someone is a particular way of showing someone how much they mean to you whether it is shown by a simple card or with a big party. In addition to my birthday being very important to me, I go out of my way to make sure that my friends and family feel equally special when there time comes. Nevertheless, my birthdays in particular have always been amazing thanks to the effort and love shown by everyone; but this one in particular, the celebration in which I turned sixteen will always be one to remember. The ORIGINAL plan was to to go to a restaurant to eat before going to see any movie that was was out at that time with a bunch of friends. Mind you, me and my friends are not the most organized bunch of people so even doing this simple of a task was going to take some work. The week before, I had loosely let them know what was going to happen and had asked a few of them to look at movie theaters which would be able to seat all of us at about 8pm as well as a restaurant which would be able to accommodate all of us with good food, and of which would also be able to get us out of there quick enough to watch the movie. • 15. Descriptive Essay About My Seventeenth Birthday I flipped through the pages of the travel brochure aimlessly. It was horrible, traveling to Hawaii in the middle of December seemed foolish. I tossed the brochure abruptly in the trash can and reached for another. As foolish as traveling to Hawaii in December may sound, I am eager to finally leave my life in Los Angles for a while. Things get really crazy around here in December; with preparations for Christmas, and not to mention my birthday coming up on the twenty–first. Since we are traveling the day before my seventeenth birthday I am going to miss all the birthday celebrations, which I am thrilled about. I've always hated my birthday because December just isn't the ideal month for birthdays. It's too cold to do anything worth having ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I also began worrying myself about my 'right of passage,' what if I'm not ready and I disappoint everyone. Days before the travel day, I started to worry myself about the plane ride to Hawaii. I never traveled nor did anything spontaneous. However, I decided to give into my family's pep talks and try something new. I held on tight to my passport, nervously staring at the boarding pass in my hand. I was anxious, I started to shake impatiently while waiting for our flight to board. It was Tuesday, December 20th today, it seemed like any other day, but after today I felt my life would change forever since it is my seventeenth birthday. I nervously followed my family to the gate as I placed my headphones over my head and turned on my favorite song. My family and I had been separated into different seats in the plane, which left me all alone. As I took my seat on the plane, I reminded myself when we land it will already be my birthday. As I was settling into my seat a young man threw his bags on the seat next to mine. He began to eat something and introduced himself as Conrad Fisher with a mouth full of chips. He made me want to cringe, especially while seated on a plane. I woke up from my nap as the plane was landing realizing it was my birthday, there was a heavy shock of turbulence and my head began to spin and a single tear came down my cheek. • 17. My Experience Of My Birthdays Do you ever have an experience that destroys something that you had cherished for so long? There have been lots of times in my life that I have been confronted with situations that changed the way I viewed myself and others, there is one distinct time that I remember abruptly changing my viewpoint, and finally learning some very important messages. On the particular day, my birthday, I had one of the most confusing, irritating, frustrating, eye–opening days of my life. A day I will remember for as long as I live. Birthdays were an event that I had been associated with excitement and anticipation in the years prior to my 7th birthday, after that, they were ruined forever. On this special day, I woke up to breakfast in bed, a family tradition. My mom had asked me earlier that week what I wanted for my birthday breakfast and I had responded with the same breakfast that everyone in my family asks for, cinnamon rolls. Skip ahead to the next morning, having just woken up, being presented with a plate of pancakes... What? I was confused. I thought, There must be some mistake. I looked around hoping to see another plate with warm gooey rolls of dough smothered in sugar placed on it. To my dismay, there was not. Oh. I guess maybe mom didn't hear me when I said I wanted cinnamon rolls, I wondered, but how could she not have? It's the same breakfast all of us ask for. • 19. Descriptive Essay About My Birthday "Happy Birthday Mariam!" screamed my entire family as I blew out five candles on a delectable chocolate cake. "Look at you all grown up! And to think that only yesterday you were a cute little baby!" said my grandma as she kissed my cheek and handed me my birthday present. "Thank you so much!" was all I could say. I was overwhelmed with the large pile of presents I had received. I can still remember that moment as clear as day. How can I ever forget it? It was one of the very last days I had spent in my beautiful home country, Egypt. I was born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt. I loved it with all my heart. "Whoosh," was the sound the airplane had made as it took off. Afterwards, with the comfy airplane seat and quiet whirring sound of the engine, I fell asleep. The next thing I remember was waking in a strange–looking, dark, empty room. It was broiling and very humid. The scorching sun was peeking out from behind the curtains. "This is it," I whispered with a huge grin on my face. "This is Saudi Arabia!" Indeed, it was the magnificent Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. And little did I know that it would become my second home. Within Saudi Arabia itself, our family moved only three times. It wasn't too bad since they were all in the same area. I attended Orbit International School where I learned to become a genius, and met people from all over the Arab world, with different yet fascinating cultures. That was the point of my life where most of my complex Arabic and English languages had developed. But what mattered to me the most was that we visited Egypt every single summer! It was absolutely phenomenal. In the beginning of the year 2014, my dad announced that his period of time that was dedicated to working in Saudi Arabia was now officially completed. And best of all, that meant that we were going back to Egypt! I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I couldn't resist the urge to grin. • 22. Descriptive Essay Happy Birthday Happy Birthday One bright Saturday morning, I woke up, and walked down stairs into the living room and kitchen. The house was decorated with balloons and a big streamer that said '' Happy Birthday!'' It was my seventh birthday. A rush of excitement flowed through me. Where was my parents? They might still be sleeping, I thought. A little while later, I heard my parents walking down the stairs. '' Happy Birthday!'' They said. I got up from watching television and hugged them. '' Your party will start at two thirty,'' my mom said. '' Ok! '' I replied, excited. As we got prepared for the party, setting out all the food, moving the furniture in a more unique position. By the time we finished, it was only one 'o' clock. Since we still had a hour and a half, I used my remaining time to shower, get some good clothes on, and comb my hair. When I went back down stairs, it was already two. '' when does the party end?'' I asked. '' It ends at five thirty,'' she said. '' Oh. Okay!'' I replied. Now, it was almost two thirty. We only had invited a couple people, and some neighbors. A sound of a car driving by pulled my mind back to reality. '' Is that one of my friends?'' I asked my dad. '' Mm, no I've seen that car parked in the neighborhood before. '' my dad replied. ''Oh. '' I said, a little disappointed. Although the celebration of a thirteenth birthday are comparable to those of previous years, once a person turns sixteen, it's like a whole new world. In the American culture a sixteenth birthday is where a teenager starts to transition into an adult. Most of the time girls celebrate the beginning of becoming a woman with a huge party called a "Sweet 16". A sweet 16 is thrown to show how beautiful of a girl she has become and what an amazing woman she will become. This event can either be formal or in formal but normally consist of bright colored, long, puffy dresses that help the girl stand out from her guests. • 26. Narrative Essay About My Birthday It was a beautiful day, everything was still and quiet. It was perfect. Unfortunately, perfect never last very long. Suddenly the alarm on my watch started to make a horrible, loud beeping sound. That meant Kayla would be here any second. But what if she wasn't there that one day, the day of my birthday. I continued to ask myself if that horrifying day would have turned out different. I worked as an accountant in a city office for about 6 years. But since I didn't have a car I carpooled with my best friend Kayla. I can't really describe the look she had given me all that well. Although her eyes seemed to appear cold and loathsome. We had been friends since we first started working in the city office. I knew every last thing about her. That's what made it so hard for me to believe she would do the thing that she did. • 28. Planning A Mexican Birthday Party Planning a Mexican Birthday party is no easy task, there are multiple factors that go into doing so. Not only does it require a couple days of planning, but if done poorly, it will turn out the same. You see in a Mexican party, one does not care about the content or what the family can provide. Rather, they care about what they can contribute to make the party happen. The same can be said for a birthday party. One does not spend weeks planning unless it's needed. Instead, you just decide on what you want, and ask for the help of all your family members who will gladly help (in) any way they can. It's for this reason that these birthday parties are so symbolic, because they bring family together to celebrate someone's significant day of birth. The first step in planning the Perfect Mexican birthday party is to invite your closest family members, this often means you're brothers and sisters alongside cousins. People from outside the family are generally not invited and are shunned if they do attend. The reason behind this is that Hispanic families tend to have family oriented parties because this brings a sense of family bonding and togetherness. To begin the invitation process, you will often call one family member who will then spread the news around, effectively acting as an invitation to the whole family. Following this, one must effectively create a music playlist. Creating a music play list full of Hispanic songs is essential for an enthusiastic party. You must ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Personal Narrative : My Birthday Party It was hot, sticky, and humid as I walked towards the park where Carly was having her birthday party. I had no desire to go there in the first place, for it was not only the hottest day of summer, but my mother had made me walk there since she had to take the car. Carly wasn't even my friend, my best friend Emma and I are just nice to her because she doesn't really have friends. That's one reason for why she's usually the topic of conversation back at school, that and the fact that she doesn't exactly look like "ninth grade material". Besides, she is the mayor's daughter, so I felt like I had no choice but to go. I kept brushing the sweaty hair off of my face. Why couldn't this stupid party be during summer instead of right when school started? When I arrived at the park, Emma ran towards me and whispered "Sarah, thank heavens you're here, I thought you wouldn't come after all". I hugged her. "No, I wouldn't leave you here alone", I said, only half joking. We both giggled and slowly headed towards the party. When we both arrived at the canopy where the party was at, Carly immediately approached me and gave me a bear hug. I was instantly filled with anxiety, as the hug lasted for way longer then I was expecting. "Um.....hi Carly, Happy Birthday!", I said, as she released me from her grip and I could breathe again. "I'm so glad you made it!", she cried. " Now everyone is here!" I instantly shot a look of guilt at Emma– our expressions proved we were both thinking the same thing: we were the only ones coming. To prove our claim, I asked Carly, "So when are the other girls coming?". I realized I made a mistake by asking her that, because she immediately frowned. "What's wrong?", Emma asked. She shot me a look that said what were you thinking Sarah? I mouthed the word sorry and Carly started speaking. "Well, it's just that I don't think the other girls like me very much. I heard them call me 'weird' and 'socially awkward' behind my back the other day when I was going to remind them to RSVP.", she replied. The guilt knot in my stomach grew tighter and I started to feel queasy. I felt terrible for not wanting to go. I'm such a horrible person, I thought. For the past few years, I haven't had enough money to buy my mom a gift. So, At the start of a preparing for her birthday, I didn't really plan to do anything for her birthday. All I was going to do was buy her a present and write a card and give it to her. This time, with my younger sister's help, I did even more. On Thursday, My auntie and my sister invited me to come along to the mall so they could go buy my mom her presents. The place we went to was a sort of an outside mall. Scotty dies three days later as a result of occlusion, which doctors say would have been prevented had it been recognized earlier. Scotty's mother, Ann Weiss, who is interactive and loves making friends, had ordered a sixteen–dollar cake on Saturday for his son's eighth birthday, which scheduled to take place on a Monday from a taciturn baker whom he left her telephone number. The baker, oblivious of Scotty's accident and demise, makes harassing calls to Scotty's home asking them to pick up their three–day–old cake. The story ends with the baker being rueful and asking for forgiveness for how he treated the Weiss family stating that it was a result of solitude and childlessness. Indeed, one needs to be kind to others as everyone we come across is fighting their battle. The story brings compassion and friendliness to the characters. At the beginning of the story when ordering a birthday cake, Ann Weiss tries to engage the baker in a conversation, but his quiet nature makes her wonder if he has ever had anything else to do in his life apart from baking. Because of his quiet reaction, she gives up making friends with him. I wanted everything to be perfect and everyone to be happy. Clarence, my boyfriend, took me out for lunch. We ended up going to a place where his ex–girlfriend worked. I wasn't very pleased to see her face and it was very uncomfortable for me to enjoy my meal while I knew she was there. She treated him poorly in their relationship, and then they had something going on while he and I were together, so I didn't like her one bit. I didn't receive any type of presents beside my lunch (which was uncomfortable) and a dinner my mother made me. I was also still expecting some Valentine's Day gift too since my birthday is only four days after it. I asked for the usual; bear, chocolate, and flowers and still had my hopes up on my birthday thinking Clarence was going to surprise me, but I was wrong and her did no such thing. I cried more than once because I expected so much and got so little. It was a very emotional day for me. I was also pregnant and got to find out the gender of my child. "It's a girl!" Not only were we happy, but so glad to finally be able to have the Dodge Challenger's our parents got us for our first car! We look forward to this day for months on end, because today we would be able to open our $50,000 presents that our parents bought us, and because we were finally going to see our relatives from Florida. When they got off the plane from Florida we happily greeted them with smiles and open arms. Once we were home from the airport, Raven and I were surprised with a surprise party. • 52. Silence In The Birthday Party Technically, silence can be defined as the absolute absense of sound. In human interaction, however, the boundaries of this definition may fade. In that case, it is not the total absense of sound but the absense of speech that determines the silence within a conversation. According to Harold Pinter, this conversational silence can be divided into two categories: "one when no word is spoken. The other when perhaps a torrent of language is being employed". In other words, one kind of silence occurs when two people are quiet and not talking to one another. The other, the "torrent of language", concerns what can be read between the lines, or the real truth behind what is being said. This latter may not be a genuine silence, but in Pinter's plays, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Written in 1957, a fearful time of oppression and censorship, "The Birthday Party" explores this theme through Stanley's futile efforts to stand up for himself against the ones he feared most. Even though his fate remains unknown, as well as the actual reason for Goldberg and McCann's presence, fact is that his mental breakdown seems to represent the state of mind of the people of America at the time. In alignment to the impending doom Stanley felt throughout the play, resulting in him basically losing his voice, the people could not fight the terrors of the Cold War and the other wars going on at the time. They were not allowed to resist their government, as that could very well be their own end as well as their country's. As Charles Grimes states in his "Harold Pinter's Politics: A Silence Beyond Echo", "virtually all of Pinter's political works end in some variant of this painful, double–edged silence" (49). By this, he asserts that there are two sides to Stanley's silence: "[it] is both absolute and complex; it also represents the necessity of a futile resistance to all analogous brutalities" (49). Is this really true? With 23 people there's a 50–50 chance of two people having the same birthday. In a room of 75 there's a 99.9% chance of two people matching. "Birthday paradox is strange, counter–intuitive, and completely true. It's only a "paradox because our brains can't handle the compounding power of exponents." How is this possible? The math behind the birthday paradox has to do with probability. It is important to take in consideration, that in order to find out the probability of people who has the same birthday, what is the probability that they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the probability he would fin is 2/529. This, however, differentiates from the original way of solving because in order to find the probability you would divide the number of days in a year ! (365!) over the number of days in a year minus the number of people in the room, 365!/342! Divided by (365)^23 would give you .491266 which is equivalent to 49%. After that you would subtract the percent given (49.12%) from 100% which would give you 50.88%. The difference in how that was figured out was that there is a formula that makes things more useful. Another method that was considered when trying to find the answer to the "Birthday Paradox", was pairing up the number of people with the number of days. For example, on examination can be trying to find the 1 out of the 10 people that shares a birthday with someone else out of 4 days in a year.So you would write it out so that it looks as if they are pairing ... • 58. The Birthday Party By Harold Pinter Harold Pinter's The Birthday Party is a play which sheds light on the pathology of abjection and violence both physical and verbal and its effect on its victim – Stanley– the protagonist of the play. Stanley is an artist who has isolated himself from a totalitarian state or organization for reasons left undisclosed in the play by Pinter. Since Pinter as a Jew grew up during the time of the Holocaust and the Second World War, Stanley seems to represent the author's existential anxiety. It can be assumed that the fear of the materiality and fragility of identity and existence caused by totalitarian states and social pathologies like War, Holocaust, poverty, racial discrimination or any human rights abuse causes Stanley to become paranoid and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I don 't think it is all that surrealistic and curious because surely this thing, of people arriving at the door, has been happening in Europe in the last twenty years. (qtd. in Esslin 36) This knock at the door is suggestive of the trepidation and helplessness felt by the Jewish communities in Europe on account of the genocide triggered during the Nazi regime. The knocking device is also indicative of an entry into the world of the abject to destroy its threatening physiognomies and to force it to conform to the prevailing norms and standards of the society. When the door is opened two mysterious emissaries, Goldberg and McCann enter and along with them enters the menace which destabilizes the miserable apathy of the boarding house and Stanley's initial hostile melancholy transitions later into a nervous breakdown. Goldberg and McCann who represent an unnamed organization come to the boarding house to do a job. Pinter as usual does not tell the readers what their job actually is and what the organization stands for. He deliberately leaves out the details so that the readers can question the legality and sanctity of the building blocks of all organizations social, political, cultural etc. Likewise Pinter does not give any information about Stanley's past. Though the present is an outcome of past contemplations and actions, Pinter does not reveal the past as he wants the audience to think about the various ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 63. birthday party "Birthday Party" by Katherine Brush uses literary devices such as tone, point of view, diction, and sensory details to achieve her purpose. The title of this short story is very deceiving the tone is different from the tone of the story. The tone changes from happy to sad as soon as the cake is brought out. The women tried to show affection and love towards her husband by the cake but it was basically turned down. The point of view is through a random person who doesn't know the couple at all. The speaker doesn't know how they are as a couple but can see that the woman is upset at her husband's reaction to the cake. "You looked at him and you saw this and you thought, "Oh, now, don't be like that!" this quote almost lets us know that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People in the restaurant give a polite and almost desperate applause, but the husband is "hotly embarrassed" (line twelve about his wife 's "little surprise". In the final paragraph, Brush clearly reveals her sentiments about the husband 's response, coloring him as cruel and "unkind" (line eighteen). The line "You looked at him and you saw this and you thought, 'Oh, now don 't be like that!" and the author 's italicization of the word "be" implies a certain amount of disgust for a husband who is trying to crush his wife 's jovial spirit. With a spit of contempt, Brush adds that "he was like that" (line fifteen), intensifying her anger and disapprobation of his meanness. Brush supplies a list of words to describe what the husband muttered to his wife as "some punishing thing, quick and curt and unkind" (line eighteen). The lengthened syntax in this sentence has the feel of the husband 's criticism of his wife for essentially being sweet to him. He comes off as a nasty man too concerned with his macho, stoical reputation to take a moment to be nice to his wife and thank her for remembering his birthday. "Birthday Party" is an ironic story with an ironic title. What this husband and wife experience is certainly no party, but merely another miserable episode in their unenviable ... • 65. Personal Narrative : My 13th Birthday Party There are plenty of memories that I can think of that I want to write about, but I'm going to pick my 13th birthday party. The reason I am picking this is because I really enjoyed myself during this time. I got to spend time with friends and family all day, and I also got a bunch of presents. There were times where I got scared and times where I was laughing hysterically. I believe on October 11th, 2014 I had my 13th birthday party, this was one of the funniest days of my life. I just had a few friends come over. My friends were Felix, Adrielle, Christian, Trenton, and Matthew. They have been my friends pretty much all my life at this point. I met all of them in kindergarten, they've been my friends ever since. They all came over at different times early in the morning. Felix was the first one to come over so we went fishing until everyone else arrived. While we were fishing we saw a grass carp, which is a huge fish, but Felix really wanted to catch it. He ended up getting a huge fish on the line but he wasn't able to bring it in, the fish broke the line. He was upset because he thinks that he actually had the grass carp on the line, but i feel like he just had a big catfish on the line. When everyone else arrived it was around noon. This is the time we started to set up the tents and get everything ready for the night. When we were getting everything ready for the night we got into groups to do specific tasks. Christian and I went to get firewood, Felix ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. My Birthdays Do you ever think to yourself that some of your birthdays are more valuable than others? Personally, I happen to think some of my birthdays aren't as much fun as when I was six years old. Currently, I am eighteen years old and as the years have gone, I've realized how different things have been. I must say I don't remember all of my birthdays from when I was a kid, although I do remember a few of them. When I was five I had a birthday party and my mom hired a clown. I guess the lady was very friendly, she handed out prizes, and played with the children. It was like having a sister for the first time. Although I have to say I'm not a big fan of clowns, this woman made my fifth birthday party an outstanding time! Her name was Betty, and she was made up to portray a clown. Betty had paint with her, so she painted all the children's faces. I believe she had painted a pink butterfly on my face and my father had painted his face as Spider Man. I also recall playing many games, it just happened to be musical chairs that I won. For my prize, I had to pick out of a huge surprise box. I was very happy with my prize because I had won myself a Snow White game for my Gameboy. Some of the girls got a bit jealous and would say that the clown would only let me win because it was my birthday. In my opinion, I think they were just upset that I had won and they didn't. • 69. Argumentative Essay : My Birthdays In High School My birthday falls on the last week of school most of the time. It doesn't really matter to me though, my family always celebrates it and gets me donuts in the morning before school. This last year, freshman year, was also the year that my sister, Hanna, with no h, mind you, graduated from high school. Graduation was just a few days after my birthday, so I was a little bothered with the fact that none of my extended family that came for Hanna's graduation remembered my birthday. The day of my birthday, the little Facebook notification popped up on people's screens telling all of my Facebook friends that it was my birthday. I got a whole 16 posts on my timeline from my Facebook friends! My aunt and uncle from Texas came for her graduation, and it wasn't until they went out to get my sister a graduation gift at Target that they had actually been reminded, by me, that it was my birthday and decided to buy me a "Star Wars" birthday card with Chewbacca on the front. I didn't get donuts that morning. Of course, all of my friends wished me happy birthday on the day of, the first being Emily through a text filled with capital letters and an abundance of emojis screaming at me sent at 12:10 am. I don't normally have a birthday party during school since my birthday is at the end of the school year, so I told my friends I was going to have my party in June. Flash forward to June, my party was on my dad's boat; Emily thinks it is a yacht, I guess it could be considered one, just because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was the month of May and I was very excited to end school because I was promised a birthday at the beach. My birthday is during the summer that means fun under the sun. Going to my house getting ready to pack to Mexico. At that time, it was tough to go to Mexico because of the corruption with criminal organizations going on everywhere. Many travelers weren't really going to Mexico because they were scared what could happened. It was our second time going over to Rockypoint to visit my dad's side of the family. We were all packed and finally hitting the road. At least it's not far from Arizona. Once we got there, well there wasn't many people around and you can feel some tension in air. When we reached my grandma's house I was already happy for my birthday on Saturday. For now, I was the one getting all the attention from everyone.
