Examples Of Conflict In Girl In The Green Sweater
In many books authors use elements of literature to get crucial points across, such as how Krystyna
Chiger did in her book, Girl in the Green Sweater. Using conflict, foreshadowing, and symbolism,
Krystyna was able to explain and show her experiences during Hitler's regime (when most of the
Jewish race was persecuted). When analyzing the data presented, one can see how the author was
able to convey her message of struggle and survival that families in The Girl in the Green Sweater
endured during the Holocaust, so that the reader could relate to the characters and situation using
conflict, foreshadowing, and symbolism. Conflict was one of the many elements Chiger used to
express the families' experiences during the holocaust; for example she used man versus nature to
express the families against the sewer conditions, man versus society to show how they had to go
against Nazi Germany because of their religion, and man versus self to show how she, as a seven
year old girl, had to go against her own mind because of the persecutions, pogroms, assassinations,
etc. she had experienced. Krystyna was experiencing man versus self during a part in the book when
she felt melancholy and was noncommunicative; to explain this further, "I could be philosophical at
times...I was not self–aware... I could not put what I was feeling into words. I would not even try"
(Chiger 222). Conflict, one of the major literary elements, is used a lot in The Girl in the Green
Sweater; it is used to

Examples Of Atticus Finch In To Kill A Mockingbird
Atticus Finch: Wise and Experienced
Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird tells of a town in Alabama, called Maycomb. In this deeply–
rooted racist town, there is a trial against an African American man, accused of raping a white
woman. One man, however, Atticus Finch, has the opportunity to help the the man on trial. Although
he knows he will lose the trial, he takes the case anyway. Atticus is respected in Maycomb, and
known for his wisdom and experience. He is a good–hearted, egalitarian man who is always there
and willing to provide guidance to his children and to the town of Maycomb, with his years of
practice and experience.
Atticus uses logic and wisdom to prove his points, along with facts; he knows a great deal of
information, but never flaunts his knowledge, instead using it to help people. Harper Lee portrays
Atticus as experienced in everything he does, having him explain and teach his life lessons. Lee
starts to show Atticus' experience early on in the book, and it is clear that Atticus has learned a lot
throughout his lifetime. "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his
point of view... until you climb in his skin and walk around in it." (39) Here, Harper Lee continues
to achieve the theme of Atticus' experience. Atticus may have learned this lesson from a past issue
or event, however his background is not discussed in the
Olson 2 book. He wants his children to realize that others have their own point of view and their
choices

Scout's Experience In To Kill A Mockingbird
The sun still rose in the east and set in the west. Birds still flew and fish still swam. The citizens of
Maycomb proceeded with their lives as normal, but Scout felt as though everything was different.
Scout developed and matured enormously throughout Harper Lee's novel, To Kill a Mockingbird.
Prolonged summers, during The Great Depression, consisted of acting out characters, spying on the
mysterious Arthur (Boo) Radley, and running around wild and free. These jaunty summers
frequently overshadowed the realities of Scout's world. As her life continued, experiences and
encounters provided her the opportunity to step out of the picture frame and see the entire picture.
Scout's perspective is continually altered and progressed through challenging situations with Miss
Caroline, experiences of goodness and solidarity in the black community with Calpurnia, and
situations when her once fictional neighbor, Boo Radley, became a reality. Experiences with Miss
Caroline, Scout's teacher, provided Atticus the opportunity to teach Scout a lesson on perspective.
Scout had endured an appalling first day of school. Miss Caroline punished and embarrassed her for
attempting to explain that one should not give a Cunningham money because they cannot repay the
debt. Scout did not understand what she had done to make Miss Caroline so cross with her.
Drowning in frustration, Scout expressed her desire to quit school because she did not want to face
Miss Caroline again. After

Last Night Sharon Olds Analysis
"Last Night" Versus "Seniors" What does love have to do with sex? Sex is always considered a
taboo and controversial topic, whereas most think they know something about love, and they're
more than willing to give others "unwanted" free advice. However, very few people talk about both
in depth together. "Last Night" by Sharon Olds and "Seniors" by Alberto Rios cover a variety of
topics, but most importantly they both cover love and sex. More specifically, they cover both what
the male and female thoughts are about sex, what their expectations are during the act, and where
love comes into play. Both speakers are memorializing their past experiences, the experiences
between the two are exceedingly different. Both poems have very similar intentions, ... Show more

She's using it to help her communicate all the violent, horrid things she felt and experienced. For
example: "–More like killing, death–grip/holding to life" (Lines13, 14) Once more in lines 16 and

obviously wasn't in a jaw being eaten, but because of this terrible and petrifying experience she felt
like she was. Rios is using figurative language to describe all the best things that he experienced
whereas Olds is using it to make the pain that she felt more

Personal Narrative: Classcraft
In which I jump feet first into Classcraft Over the summer I attended EdCamp Magic in Orlando,
FL. During the door prize section of the day, my pal Amber (@edtechamber – follow her, she's full
of good) won a Premium Subscription to Classcraft, a service that she didn't need in her position. So
quickly, I adopted the not–as–subtle–as–it–thinks–it–is "share the treats, please?" pose that my dog
gets when I open the cupboard. When she asked me if I wanted it, I was all yes. Classcraft is kind of
like Class Dojo meets Dungeons and Dragons. It has more of a story to it, and more of a
collaborative feel, as students work together in teams. As this school year has started to pick up, my
kids and I are really enjoying it so far. Rather than writing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I'm pretty easy going most of the time, but when it gets too noisy and I need it quiet for a moment, I
have difficulty reining it in. With Classcraft, I've added in some outside sound effects and danger to
warn them of noise. I found a dungeon soundboard online (shoutout, Tabletop Audio!). When it gets
a little too noisy, I hit the Growl button (volume on LOUD), my eyes get really big, and I say, "Oh
no, I think we're traveling past some Orcs (or dragons, or some other beasties)!" and the kids quiet
down. If that doesn't work, I hit the Roar button on the soundboard, and then the Random Team
button on Classcraft, "Oh no, the Magical Mountains just got attacked by a band of Orcs!" I roll a
die and add on that they each took that much damage. It works, and it's fun, even when we get hit.
My kids love getting their work done early. "Can I go on Classcraft?" they like to see how close they
are to leveling up, or to using class earned gold to buy new armor. Because we have the Premium
version, I'm able to create Quests to review content, and then we can go on the quest as a class by
battling a creature. One thing I'd like to see, though, is the ability to assign the quest to individuals.
Wouldn't it be cool to use the quests as online quizzes? Fingers crossed that I just don't understand
that function, or that it's coming... There's also a Classroom Content Library that you can add
readings to, but I haven't played with that

My Moment In My Life
High Point A moment in my life that stands out as an especially positive experience is when I
graduated high school. The day occurred on June 15, 2015 at the Jiffy Lube live arena stage in my
hometown of Manassas, Virginia. The people involved in this positive experience were myself, my
mother, father, sister, family friends, my friends, administrators, teachers, and peers. I woke up in
the morning around 9:00 am, showered, got dressed packed all of my essentials for my graduation,
and drove to one of my friend's house where all of my friends and I got ready for graduation. My
friends and I spent several hours getting ready, taking, photos for our family members before our
ceremony. Then we went to the graduation location and waited for an hour in our designated spots
for when walk out. The ceremony began at 7:00, the speakers spoke for about 30 minutes, then
names were called. My named was called early on, I walked across the stage, my mom calling my
name out, I smiled to her as I spotted her in the crowd. Then I shook the hands of the administrators,
received my diploma and walked of the stage. On this day I was thinking about how I was finally
going to finish my four year long journey. At that point every choice I had made in my academic
career led to this moment of accomplishment. I was also thinking of how it was a long process to get
to my graduation day and that walking across the stage not only would be positive for me, but for
others who were important to me and a

The Loss Of The Creature By Walker Percy
In the essay "The Loss of the Creature", Walker Percy highlights his observations on how people
perceive the world. He argues that we have lost original, self–driven learning because people only
measure their experiences based on other people's expectations. He states how these preconceived
expectations of our experiences give way to a symbolic complex. This complex is set by what
people or "Layman" believe the experts have set. Therefore, their experience is only validated if
people feel that they have met those criteria. He believes that people can only have a true experience
if they forgo all those preconceived expectations and biases. Only then can people truly experience
something at face value. To present his ideas in a more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was a freedom to his experience that is uniquely his. As more people have traveled to the
canyon and authorities have stepped in, we have been told how to experience it. We are told what to
do, what not to do, how to behave, what to see, and what to avoid. he be, lives that this takes away
from the experience of the canyon. We do not get to discover what the canyon means to us but are
walked through what the experts believe is the best way to see it. He puts it best by using the
example of the tourist who has waited his whole life to see the canyon. Once he gets there, he is
only comparing what he sees in front of him with what he has seen in other places like postcards and
pictures. He says that we do not appreciate the sheer vastness or the enormity of what has been laid
in front of us but instead spend our time taking pictures and judging our experiences by how many
shots we take. Daily, I fight a battle with social media. The most prominent example is not getting
wrapped up in taking pictures and up loading them for others to see and "Like". I make a conscious
effort to make sure my life does not consist of getting validation from others about my thoughts or
my actions. There is a fine line between sharing and sharing for authentication. This causes people
to give others the ability to assign value to a person's experiences. Not only is the value detracted by
our expectations but by the

Reflection Of My Paintings
My paintings are a reflection of my personal experiences and my imagination. My aim to paint is
not just to master the technique but to feel and connect with the subject.
By balancing the art of memory and personal experience, I create works that narrate a story. I
believe my works are just like novels. Each painting is a different chapter from my life. These visual
compositions may not be the exact representation of the particular event but they do symbolize the
incident. I create with daily, recognizable elements, a situation in which the viewer is also a part of
the work and he is confronted with the conditioning of his own perception and has to reconsider his
biased position.

Summary Of Some Lessons From The Assembly Line
Could you make it in the grind of the assembly line in the blue–collar world? In reading Braaksma's
"Some Lessons From The Assembly Line", the main idea is how important college education is,
which is conveyed in a number of different ways. The author looks at the experience they had at
assembling line job on their summer break and how awful it was. Comparing it to the easy–going
lifestyle as a college student. The article's main claim of education being an important avenue to
take is an important lesson to be taken seriously because of the author's negative view of the
assembly line, positive view of being at school, and the value the author holds in education.
Braaksma starts with his argument by his negative view of the assembly line. The author gained this
view from his first–hand experiences. As we take a look at what happened we will see the cons of
this world, and what kind of life this can lead to. With this stance, he will discourage the reader from
life on the assembly line.
The author continues to use the information that he discovered in his experience to compel the
reader to understand the importance of education; dissuading them from entering this field. There
are a number of descriptions the author gives from low pay, high physical exertion, long hours, and
lack of job security (Braaksma, 2005). This leaves little to the imagination on how it is to work in
this environment, furthermore, it leaves little to be desired in the industry. Without education,

Analysis Of Deliverance By James Dickey
"'I remember almost every day that I was in the war, and I think almost everything that I've done is
influenced at least to some degree(...) by the fact that I was in the war'"(Dickey). James Dickey
wrote his novel Deliverance based off much of his own experiences in war. In his novel, narrator Ed
is in a predicament. He feels like life is floating by without actually experiencing it. When his friend
Lewis comes along and offers him the canoe trip of a lifetime, Ed is all in. These two are joined by
two other city slickers to set off on an adventure that will change their lives. James Dickey wrote
this adventure with a different kind of experience in mind. A participant in World War II, the conflict
was still fresh in his mind and this shows in the journey on the river. The trip that these men take is
eerily similar to the journey Dickey participates in throughout the war. Leaving for the war and
leaving for the canoe trip both elicit the same feelings of excitement, doubt, and loss. The trials on
the river include many of the same trials people in war go through such as death and guilt. Finally,
the return home both from war and from the canoe trip both have negative impacts on the psyche.
The men's' obstacles in their departure, encounters with adversity, and return home are a metaphor
for the struggles of war.
Dickey's motivations and feelings about going off to war resonate with Ed's feelings about leaving
on the canoe trip. Ed is at a point in his life where nothing

Reflection Paper
Our excursion to Japan was full of inspiring and fulfilling experiences for me. The foremost part of
our journey, to Tokushima and the Awagami Factory, was what I was initially so excited for.
Between my studies of printmaking, papermaking, and Japanese art history– Awagami was the
initial anticipated zenith of my trip to Japan.
It was an absolute dream come true. Paper has long been a fascination of mine as it's a printmaker's
primary medium. Awagami washi paper is renowned among printmakers and the opportunity to
partake in the traditional process from collection, cleaning, preparation, and completion into the
final thin yet strong sheets of washi paper was wonderful. I was so inspired by the facility and the
process that I made sure to take detailed notes in the hope of continuing my own papermaking
process back in the United States.
Another occurrence that has altered my own artistic practices and inspired me for future art works–
including our final sculptural pieces for this class– was our trip to Inujima Island and the Inujima
Seirensho Art Museum. The second piece we encountered, a piece entitled "Solar Rock" by Yukinori
Yanagi which used pieces of Yukio Mishima's Shoto home, was an influential piece into my own
practices. The larger than life, imagined, presence of this piece was achieved through the
"expanded" walls of a theoretical home. The mind fills in the gap left by the lack of walls to create a
house upon a rock. This speaks to author Yukio Mishima's

In Response To The Globalization Of Superficiality Analysis
In his 2010 speech, Rev. Adolfo Nicolás, S.J., Superior General of the Society of Jesus, said "In
response to the globalization of superficiality, I suggest that we need to study the emerging cultural
world of our students more deeply and find creative ways of promoting depth of thought, and
imagination, a depth that is transformative of the person."
Fr. Nicolás is reminding us to take a step back when learning new information. He is reminding us
to stand above the flood of information we experience faster and after due to new technology. He
stresses the need for thought out information over fast information. The "globalization of
superficiality" refers to this widespread trend of disconnection between well thought out human
interaction. Father Nicolás is stressing the importance of considering sources and form our own
analyses. But his concern stretches even deeper, to the way young people are using technology to
hide from the world and connection with others. He is calling for Jesuit education to encourage
deeper evaluation and participation of life's experiences.
Computer Science is a rapidly growing field, not only in the US but all over the world. Through a
semester abroad I hope to learn more about the world as well as how CS is growing overseas. Father
Nicolás addressed how technology has increased the stresses access to information as fast as
possible, over the quality of the information.
Both through technology as my chosen field but also away from the world of zeros and ones.
Although Father Nicolás is describing technology as the driving force behind the globalization of
superficiality, I want my experience abroad to increase how I use my information to expand my
depth of thought and imagination and use my computer skills to help others do so too. Father
Nicolás mentions a "pedagogy" of Ignatian contemplation, how Ignatius asked us to look at all our
senses when responding to a new experience. I can employ this method to my new experiences
while studying abroad, in my studies toward my major and in exposure to another culture. Father
Nicolás is reminding us to "stop and smell the roses" when experiencing new things, to take time to
connect with others and our present surroundings. I fully intend

Reflection On Early Learning
This reflection reviews my time at Goodstart Early Learning in Kyneton and the four weeks I spent
there during my first practicum round. The review will critically reflect my experience from this
practicum, using readings and learnings my strengthens and weaknesses will be revealed. Strategies
will also be implemented in what areas I need to focus on before my next practicum round.
Something that I observed at the beginning of my practicum were the issues concerning behavioural
guidance. There was a group of four boys who required the greatest assistance, my experience in
managing people and being a parent quickly reminded me in how to best support them. Knowing
each child and what their abilities and interests are enable educators to respond sensitively and
appropriately to each child (Cohrssen, Church, & Tayler, 2011). I spoke with my mentor and other
educators and discovered the backgrounds of these boys and reasonings for their behaviours. I learnt
by observing the other educators how these behavioural guidance issues were managed and the
many techniques they used. Something I realised with the learning experiences I conducted was the
need to not speak too quickly and be clear and concise with my instructions. As I have had limited
interaction with young children as my stepchildren are now adults, I was unaccustomed in how to
effectively communicate with young children. At the beginning of my practicum the instructions and
direction I was attempting to provide were too

Mabinogi Research Paper
When you play games online, do you play the games casually or hardcore? A massively multiplayer
online role–playing game (MMORPG) called Mabinogi. In this game, you will meet thousands of
players online to get involve into many activities to have fun. The original game first came out in
2004 in South Korea, but it was localized into North America in 2008. The game is free–to–play
where it can be downloaded from the game website, but it must fulfill certain system requirements
to properly play the game. ("Mabinogi." Mabinogi). Mabinogi is a game where the imagination is
potentially endless than what I thought. When playing Mabinogi, I recommend playing the
mainstream generations because the story plays a much darker event than what it looks like. In order
to start the game, you will need to pick a server, create your character between the 3 races: Human,
Elf or Giant, select a talent in the talent system, and use the tutorial to understand the combat
system. The character will have the skills to find, train, and get stronger by gaining Experience
Points (EXP) and Ability Points (AP). To gain AP, you will need to level up your character,
complete some quests, or wait until Saturday to let your character 's age increase. If you are done
leveling up with your character, you have the ability called, "Rebirth" where your character 's level
will reset to 1, but you can keep your character 's current skill ranks, AP, items, funds, and
achievements. Your character can only

My Life Lesson Trough A Teacher 's Eyes
The Life Lesson Trough a Teacher's Eyes, is a book written by Dr. Jillian Laderhouse. This book is
like a journal where Dr. Laterhouse tells personal experiences that have shaped her life. The book
commences off with a strongly affirmation where Dr. Latehouse states that be a teacher is her life's
calling. In the introduction of the book Laterhouse establish her foundation as a teacher, she
mentioned many experiences that shape her as a teacher and recall the fact that she lived in a teacher
profession family. She mentioned stories about her childhood, stories that have shaped her life into
the teacher profession; she stated "I grew in a teacher's home". As I read the book I noticed that I
have not had the same opportunity as Laterhouse to live in a teacher's home. However, as I continue
reading the book I saw that the lessons learned by the author can help me even though I did not
grow in a teacher's home. It is evident in the book the spiritual life and God centered life.
Laterhouse dived her book in seven lesson learned. Every lesson brings me to reflect about God,
about myself and about others. I consider that every lesson mentioned is important I will recall those
points that I consider important to my life. The first lesson learned was from parenting. As
Laterhouse mentioned "as believers we have guidance available to us through prayer and Scripture,
but became believers does not automatically equip us with the insights and techniques to be a
parent." I have

The Mind : Paper Two
Phi of Mind: Paper Two
I. Introduction In this paper, four important features of qualia will be made explicit. From these, we
will examine two specific features of qualia (privacy and immediate apprehensibility) which
Dennett attempts to debunk in his article, Quining Qualia. His reasoning – in the form of intuition
pumps – will be critiqued, and a rejection formulated.
II. Qualities of Qualia Qualia are traditionally held to possess four characteristics that make them
unique. They are ineffable, intrinsic, private, and immediately apprehensible within consciousness.
Listing these attributes is all well and good, but what are they? Ineffability refers to the
incommunicability of qualia. Attempting to use language to capture qualia seems to miss part of the
experience, or to reduce and simplify the experience until it can be made to conform to what
language can communicate. Qualia seems so content–rich that moving it into public understanding
necessarily entails its simplification. Consider the jalapeño and habanero peppers. If I were to eat
both, I would experience two separate qualia – one for the jalapeno and one for the habanero. In
language, I could describe both as 'spicy'. More practically, I could describe the jalapeno as 'very
spicy' and the habanero as 'mutilatingly spicy '. I could be as creative or precise as possible to try to
relay the qualia of the peppers, and I could certainly give a listener an image of some sort of quale
one might have. Still, there

Internship Statement For Internship
This summer I was very fortunate to be given the opportunity to participate in a research and
development internship at the world's largest snack company, Mondelēz International, which is
known for its iconic brands such as Oreo, Sour Patch Kids, Triscuit, Trident, Swedish Fish, Cadbury,
and many more. The headquarters for this international giant is located in Chicago, Illinois;
however, I was employed in the research and development center positioned in East Hanover, New
Jersey. Completing my second year at Penn State last May fully aware that I would be moving to
New Jersey from my small hometown around Erie, PA, I was under the perception that I had an idea
of what the summer would hold for me. However, this was an overstatement, for what I experienced
in the time between May and August truly altered my viewpoint on education, business, and food
science. Accepting the offer to participate in an internship with Mondelēz International last fall, I
understood that the experience would be very enriching, for this was what my professors and older
students conveyed. I set goals such as attempting to act as a sponge, extracting every single
experience/knowledge that I could from professionals in the industry, networking with other food
science students participating in the internship as well as the mentors that would be leading me
through the project, exposing myself to a different lifestyle as a salary employee and resident of
uniquely cultured New Jersey, and many others.

I Had Never Spent Much Time Evaluating My Values System...
I had never spent much time evaluating my values system before taking on this assignment. I
believed that I was wired to think the way I do, and that nothing in particular had to be the cause for
my feelings on certain things. By writing this paper and learning about values, I was able to take a
hard look at myself and figure out what my personal values stem from. My values relating to the key
issues of women's reproduction, poverty/money, health care in America, and minority groups have
blossomed out of personal experiences and experiences I have heard about from those close to me. I
also found several themes that underlie why I have the values that I do, and why I think about these
topics in the way that I do. Women's reproduction is the most important of the topics to me, because
when it comes to women's reproduction I look at the subject from two points of view. The first point
of view I see is the main reason the topic is discussed, which is the sexual/reproductive side. The
other point I see is my own personal experience, which has nothing to do with reproduction but
concerns health. My core values relative to this area are dignity and worth of a person and social
justice. I chose these two because I think every woman should be able to access forms of birth
control and abortion without being criticized. Not being able to do that, in my view, is
discrimination. I think the woman who is choosing these actions is of enough worth to be able to
make the right decision for

The client, Julie*, called into the Crisis Center Hotline looking for immediate shelter for herself and
her two young children. At that time, our shelter was not full and therefore had space for the mother
and her children. I went through the procedural routine of making sure that she was not in the
center's blue books, a record of clients not allowed to receive shelter and/or services, and seeing if
she had an alpha card already completed, this would mean that she was a previous client at the
shelter and already had a file. Julie* did was not found in either source. At that point, I began to

completed first with the client. These pages find out more about the client's demographics, her
current physical and mental health state, how many children she has and if she could be pregnant at
the time, her abuser's demographics, and the presenting primary abuse occurring. I completed these
two pages with Julie* and then from that point an approval staff member will tell you if you can
complete the rest of the intake or tell the client that at the time we cannot offer them services. Julie*
was approved to complete the rest of the intake paperwork. The majority of the rest of the intake
paperwork is a more detailed explanation of the first two pages. These pages help the approval staff

The Best Advice That I Ever Received From A Mentor Of Mine...
The best advice that I ever received from a mentor of mine was that instead of trying to be the best
at something you should instead focus on being a well–rounded person. That is the way that I have
tried to live my life and it has led me to great success thus far. This is the primary reason why I
support students taking classes outside of their major. It leads to much more well–rounded adults
who are knowledgeable in many different subject areas. Even though it may not be that enjoyable,
taking classes outside of your major introduces you to a wide range of knowledge. Socially it helps
you interact with a wide range of people in all kinds of different social settings. You are able to
speak intelligently to many different people about a plethora of different subjects. Additionally, it is
important to consider that a majority of people choose a major based on what they are good at and
are interested in. For many people math classes are very challenging. If we left those people to their
own devices they would probably never take a math class again. Now math is obviously a very
important skill regardless of your future career choice and it's a class that everyone should take.
Even if it may not be that enjoyable. The same goes for all subject matters. For me personally its
history. I am not a big fan of history classes. However I am glad to have taken all of the ones that I
have. They have taught me lots of important things about the world that I live in. These classes have

The Crisis Center For South Suburbia Essay
This past week at the Crisis Center for South Suburbia was not as eventful as the past two weeks.

involuntarily, or been given a written warning in which they are following the conditions of. I now
have only one client on my caseload, since the other had voluntarily exited herself and her son. On
Monday, 10/31/16, I was able to help the children in shelter celebrate Halloween. We set up trick or
treating spots throughout the shelter and I also was able to handout treat bags that were donated to
the shelter. The kids seemed to have some fun with the little celebration we were able to give to
them. Also on that day, I worked my first evening shift. The evening definitely has a lot more
activity since most clients are back from work or other commitments during the day. During this
time, it was just myself and D working. In the midst of all the activity, we had a medical emergency
that I was able to respond to. Tiffany* had been discharged from hospital with the understanding
that she had a mild heart attack and would need to have a stent put in later. Upon arriving back from
the shelter, something was just not right with her. Myself along with another client, observed her in
the kitchen staring at the counter without moving for around five minutes. When she finally seemed

Studying abroad will bring the students into a new environment where will have experiences of a
lifetime. My brother is one who came back with several great experiences. He got to see the world.
Studying abroad is a thing that will get students out of the U.S. They will be out of the area that they
most likely lived in their whole life. This experience will introduced them to a new culture that is
unique. They will be part of a completely new culture and surrounded by that culture. Too many
students only know what's in the US. Living abroad for a year will give them information about that
foreign country and also allow them to travel to what's almost a whole new world in a relatively
short trip. Countries in Europe are all close together and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A huge point in her argument is that both when a student is leaving to go the the country and when
they are coming home the student is never prepared for the cultural experience. She provides facts
about a survey that she conducted showing how few students are being prepared efficiently for the
change. She created a survey of 350 students from across the US where she said that only "one–
fourth of students were provided with any cross–cultural training before they left"(Berdan). She is
arguing that more students need to be prepared from the beginning of the experience and even when
they are going back home to the states. While this may be true that not enough students are prepared
for the change, the change that they are going through is one that is almost impossible to do
successfully. Students that study abroad would be placed into a different country with a handful of
students that are similar to them is a unique experience and something that can not be prepared for.
This world is changing so learning from a textbook that is outdated is not as beneficial as living

My Friend Uploaded A Post On Facebook And It Got Me...
Recently my friend uploaded a post on Facebook and it got me contemplating. The question was
posed by a man named Alan Watts and he asked, "What would you like to do if money were no
object?" This inquiry seems to be wandering the internet a bit because this was roughly the third
time that I have regarded it, so I took it as a sign and I paused to direct this question to myself. Of
course, there is a multitude of things that I yearn to do. If money wasn't the issue like many of us
make it out to be, of course, there would be ample to do. I discern that this question is posed more
for what type of work would you do but I was thinking about stuff that I would love to do
regardless. The most predominate desire for me is to travel. I love to write and that will always be a
constant thing, but I think it would be great to do both.
I recognize that many people would have a similar response, yet my strong desire to travel made me
consider deeply as to why I had such a tenacious want for it. I believe one of the reasons why that
deep down, we still hold on to the ancient survival instinct of migration, which can never really be
satisfied. I believe that this could also hold true for me. As I think more about it, I find that it was
not really the destinations that I want to go to but the means of the journey that I wish to experience.
My husband is the one who made me conscious of this. He likes to travel and see places as well, but
just didn't understand the concept of people

Part-time Jobs For Students: A Good Idea Essay
Part–time Jobs for Students: A Good Idea
I, being employed with a part–time job, truly do believe that there is no wrong in having a part–time
job while being a student. I honestly think that it is an awesome, great idea for students to have part–
time jobs before they graduate from high school –– if they have the time and resources to do so.
Students who are responsible, or learn responsibility, have nothing to loose but all to gain by having
a job. There are a few key points that prove students having part–time jobs is an awesome concept
which I am going to point out. A student that can maintain a part–time job gain excellent first–hand
experience that cannot be gained from the classroom. Today, if you are looking in the help ... Show

A student with a part–time job will learn not only great work ethic, but also how to balance the
demanding workloads between school and work. This is great for when students go on to become
involved in other activities because they will know time management and how to balance their
energy between activities. Time management is a skill that is extremely important to students and
people in today?s world because everything is so fast, and compressed; there is a lot to do in a
typical day of a student! Employed students must learn how to work while still making time for their
studies and other things. They will also have to learn confidence in telling the boss when they
absolutely can not work because schoolwork must come first. For example, I used to work about 40
hours a week at Tim Horton?s while I was attending Northern full time as a student. Between all
this, I was training for boxing, running x–country, maintaining a social life and such but I kept my
schoolwork the first priority with my job running in a close second. It was hard to get on track of
balancing everything while working eight(plus) hour day shifts but I was able to manage it, and find
use for every moment I had awake. I learned a lot from that time in my life and now every day I get
I seem to plan out and make sure I have the proper time for everything. Students learning how to
balance their workload will benefit a lot

My Internship At Future Perfect Ventures
My internship at FuturePerfect Ventures has been an incredible learning experience and a stepping–
stone for a fulfilling career path. I have known that I wanted to pursue a career in financial
communications before I even started the internship search process. My experience at FuturePerfect
Ventures not only solidified my desire to work in this specific industry but also gave me the
opportunity to build on my existing skills and allowed me to have first–hand experience in this area.
Thus, my internship at FuturePerfect Ventures has been, in many ways, more than a learning
experience but also what Nathaniel Kolac, the author of the Harvard Business Review article, "Build
a Career Worth Having, refers as a valuable stepping stone, one of the many experiences that help
create the path to a successful, fulfilling career. All of my previous internship experiences have
allowed me to hone in on and strengthen different skills. In his article, Kolac stresses the importance
of treating one's career like a "grand experiment" in order to develop a valuable career. My
internship at FuturePerfect Ventures was certainly a "grand experiment" for me. While I was able to
learn a lot about the financial industry, investing, and startups, I also I had to rely on the
communications–related skills that I learned in my graduate classes and from previous internship
experiences to help me because I was not interning for a communications team. Now that I've

Abortion In The Mother By Gwendolyn Brooks
The poem, "The Mother" by Gwendolyn Brooks has a very powerful context regarding abortion.
Abortion is very common throughout the United States, so Brooks poem is still very relatable till
this day. The Concept and result of abortion is a very difficult for almost all mothers who have the
dreadful experience of abortion; but there are a few parents who can still adjust easily. Gwendolyn
Brooks poem gives us very insightful point of views. She gives us her point of view as well as other
mothers who are not specifically mentioned in the stanzas of the poem. Brooks does this by
describing her love, commemorations, doubt, and finally her traumas when experiencing abortion.
In the beginning, of the poems stanzas she gives us a brief glanz on her thoughts on abortion. On the
second line of the first verse Brooks begins by stating her speech in a second point of view to
address it specifically to her audience. When speaking from the second point of view Gwendolyn
Brooks speaks about experiences and how her children did not undergo the achievements that were
set out in life. Then suddenly on the second stanza she immediately switches to first point of view
referencing herself numerous amount of times. We can see Gwendolyn tone of speech switch
drastically to an extent where it seems as if the matter of abortion has became very intimate. Also
from the very beginning of the poem the Mother we can see how traumatic the events of losing a
child can be and how this can cause a mother to be trapped within an emotional ball of misery of
some sort. This suddenly lets us realize as an audience that she isn't reminiscing about one
misfortune but a group of tragical memories. We can see this from this example Brooks states on the
very first line of her poem " Abortions will not let you forget" referring to her first miserable
memory. Then on the first line of her second verse she proceeds by stating "Voices of my dim killed
children" referring to the multiple voices of abortion. This can also mean the difficulties a mother
encounters when dealing with one abortion; keep on adding more and this leads to even more misery
and terrible memories than a mother initially had experienced. Emotions and symbols of sadness

The Uppsala Model And Internationalisation Process
1.2.3 Uppsala Model/Internationalisation Process
However, "The Uppsala Internationalisation Model" (Johanson & Vahlne, 1977, 1990), argues that
organisations grow through incremental or gradual process by gradually increasing their
internationalisation activities as they gain more experience and learning. Organisation they believe
commit more resources as they gain more knowledge a certain market by first investing in close
psychic distant market, (Banalieva & Santoro, 2009; B Elango, 1998; Balasubramanian Elango &

elements as this model does not account for heterogeneous nature of organisation, businesses and

Summary Of On Natural Death By Lewis Thomas
On Natural Death
In his essay "On Natural Death", research pathologist, medical doctor, and biologist Lewis Thomas
attempts to console the reader about the weighty topic of death by referencing his own observations,
citing scientific facts and statistics, and using the universal fear and unknown of eternal rest.
Thomas first points to the example of the unforeseen death of an elm tree in his own backyard. The
death of an inanimate lifeform is something with which most people are familiar and probably even
comfortable. This first hand experience displays a situation in which death is quick and free of pain.
It also shows how quickly death can tranpire; in this situation, the tree appeared to be in perfect
health just a week before its sudden passing. The story of a dying mouse displays Thomas's own
sorrow at the demise of a fellow mammal and former participant in life. The reader is naturally
brought to empathize with Thomas's sentiments by his use of firsthand emotions and experiences.
Thomas even calls upon the reader to understand the feelings of the mouse itself by describing what
the experience likely felt to the mouse –– painless to the extent that the mouse is inclined to shrug.
Another of his observations is that of two soldiers' unfortunate fatalities after being in a mortal
automobile accident. This example brings the reality of death even closer to the reader, as this time
the it is experienced by human beings not unlike the reader. This situation is akin to that

Theme Of Virginia Woolf's To The Lighthouse
Virginia Woolf's "To the lighthouse" has many themes that can be discussed, especially those related
to art, life, reality and time. Some critics argue that there is a life–art relationship in the novel,
"perceived relations of equivalence between emotional experience and aesthetic (con)figuration,
between 'life' on the one hand, and shape, trope, structure on the other" (Koppen, 375). However,
one must analyze the novel in order to find if it can be true what these critics say. If it is true that
there is an art's relation to life in this novel, how did Virginia Woolf express this relation in the
novel? Which characters represent better this relationship? In the present essay, it will be discussed
if there is such a relationship between art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ramsay's death, there is a transition from life to art and this transition is represented in part II,
which is faster than the other two parts and in which one can see the passage of ten years
represented especially in the decay of the house. After this transition, in part III, Lily, who represents
art, becomes the main character. In this part, one finds the effort that Lily makes to transform her
vision of life and the world into art and the aesthetic problems she has with it. She decides to
continue with the painting she started. There is an evolution of her vision from the beginning of the
novel until the end. In the beginning, she cannot make sense of her art, but in the end, she fills her
vision and she is capable of finishing the painting. She has been an observer of the Ramsay family,
especially of Mrs. Ramsay through the entire novel, but it's at the end when she attains her vision.
She is capable to see Mrs. Ramsay in the past and in the present. When she finishes her painting, Mr.
Ramsay, Cam and James arrive to the lighthouse and James can see it and her father, who has
changed through those ten years. At this point, it is easier to see the relation of life and art. There is
no life without art, but "art can never be void of life, because it is connected in so many ways with
the experiencing body" (388). Also, it is important to notice that Lily attains her vision at its fullest,
but it is conditional on the body and the physical experience, that is,

The Movie Rush Hour : Experience And The Experiences Of...
I recall a time back in my childhood where my mother picked my brother and I from school. We
jumped with joy carrying our heavy superhero backpacks and Capri–Suns in hand as she made us
laugh with her story of the day. In the midst of excitement, we were given a challenge. Smiling, my
mother told us that if we could guess who was home that she would tell us what movie she brought
for us to watch. But to no avail, our guesses were off. Being the nice person I knew she was, she told
us anyway, "Do you know about the movie Rush–hour?" My brother and I looked at each other in
disbelief and held our breath. We heard about the movie and looked up the trailer before., but never
found the means to watch it. The news made us want to run home as fast as possible and when we
arrived our mother gave us the DVD. In front of us laid flat a DVD box of Rush Hour, a Nigerian
film. I turned the box over and looked at the actors and plot which I've never seen before in my life.
Nevertheless, we popped in the DVD in our DVD player and watched it. We did not enjoy it. The
unconscious comparison of experiences affects everyone in their life. For the average man, how one
values an experience can be affected by preconceived feelings (such as excitement or boredom)
about what to expect. These feelings are innate in us people; it is a part of our lives, seemingly
inescapable or achievable. In spite of this, true experiences can be found. Somehow, highly
knowledgeable people found a way to see

How Does Anne Change In The Painted Door
"Experience is not what happens to a man; it is what a man does with what happens to him"– Aldous
Huxley. Experiences can have a great effect on the future of people, and can affect how that person
becomes whom they are. The characters in the three stories, all go through experiences and make
choices throughout their lives that change the way they act in the future and alter their lives in a
good or bad way. In the short story "The Painted Door" by Sinclair Ross, Anne the main character is
very conservative at first and does not enjoy her husband, John. Anne does not have much caring for
a "dull witted fellow" (Ross 226), and makes it seem like she deserves better. As the story
progresses, Anne lets go of her self control and has an affair with Steven while John is away tending
to his father. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Different Perspectives In Octavia Butler's Kindred
In Octavia Butler's Kindred, Dana and Kevin both experience many unbelievable events that change
their sense of reality. They each travel back to the antebellum South for different amounts of time,
gaining different insights from the same events. Kevin, a white man, travels back to a time of
privilege, while his wife Dana, a black woman, travels back to a time of hardship and enslavement.
Their contrasting perspectives cause them to see the world differently. For example, Kevin draws
from his sole point of view, while Dana uses her own perspective with other people's perspectives.
No matter when or where they are, Dana and Kevin determine the truth through what see and what
they already know.
Kevin and Dana first conflict when Dana returns to 1976 for the first time. Kevin is in disbelief
about where Dana went, as he suggests what she experienced was "a dream" (17). He says this
despite the fact that he saw Dana disappear and reappear, something out of the ordinary. His
perspective is different from Dana's, meaning what he sees isn't always what actually happens. Dana
goes back in time, while Kevin saw Dana "vanish and reappear" (16). Despite not knowing what
Dana experienced, he still believes his point of view is a fact. Kevin insists Dana's experience was a
"dream," and refers to his perspective as "facts" (16). By doing so, he asserts his perspective, the
white male perspective, is objective and truthful, while Dana's is illegitimate. Kevin's view is similar
to how the

Siddhartha and Govinda Essay
Siddhartha and Govinda Siddhartha, written by Herman Heese, is a book about a man's journey to
find his inner self beginning when he is young and ending when he is of old age. Siddhartha, while
on this quest, searched for different mentors to teach him what they know, hoping to find truth and
balance in and of the universe. At the end of the novel, Siddhartha reaches the enlightenment
through many teachings.
Govinda, Siddhartha dearest friend and confident, is often viewed as his Siddhartha's follower, or as
his shadow. In the beginning, Siddhartha goes with Gotama to hear the teachings of the Buddha, and
Govinda remains with Buddha to become his disciple. Siddhartha believes that each person must

After being asked how he was able to reach enlightenment, Siddhartha draws the distinction
between knowledge and wisdom. He says, " No, I am telling you what I discovered. Knowledge can
be communicated, but not wisdom. One can find it, live it, be forfeited by it, do wonders through it,
but one cannot communicate and teach it." (115).
Siddhartha shares many teachings he has learned with Govinda. Siddhartha holds up a stone in
example, showing that one thing is enfolded in the past, present, and future. He also stated that
language is only a device, and that wisdom is not communicable. This means that, through
experience, wisdom is attainable, but if you trying to teach enlightenment, the meaning will not be
fully appreciated to whom it is taught.
We also learn that not only Samana has left its mark on Siddhartha, but that also his brief contact
with Buddha left its mark also. The Buddhist doctrine shows two opposites are Samsara and
Nirvana. All truth has these two opposites, the truth side and the illusion side.
When Gotama admits he has still not found peace, he suddenly has an inexpressible experience
much like Siddhartha had when he met Vasudeva years before. Siddhartha then summons Govinda
to kiss him on the forehead. Govinda feels as if he is touching perfection, the illustrious one,
eternity, and gets a mystical transference from Siddhartha.

Evaluating Kant 's Intentions For Each Premise
Here I hope to reflect Kant's intentions for each premise in the order presented above. (P1): I am
conscious of my experience as determined in time. P1 can be interpreted a few ways. Dicker in his
first interpretation takes his second premise to mean, (P2): I am aware that I have representations in
experience that occur in temporal succession (Dicker 195). In other words, I am not only conscious
of my experiences; I am also in a position where I recognize the order of my experiences presented
by my own mental representations. Ordering representations is only possible if these representations
are determined in time.
A thing which merely persists in perception does not itself reveal whether the persisting object
occurred in any particular order. (B275). So, seeing that I can determine the order in time of my own
subjective experiences, then there needs an additional capacity other than my own experiences
allowing me to do so.
Currently, we have rested the first two premises as possible. Accordingly, I will maintain subjective
experiences do not expose the determinate time–order alone. This conclusion is not explicitly stated
in Dicker's reconstruction.
In the B–version, Kant introduces a revised third premise (included above). Kant writes, that
representations need a second party persisting distinct from the representations. This idea illustrates
what information from representations might be sufficient in determining time–orders. there seems
to be something other than the

The Loss of the Creature vs the Souls of Black Folk Essay...
Walker Percy's essay, "The Loss of the Creature" describes the experiences that each person goes
through as either a genuine experience driven by own desires, or one that is already preconceived by
experts. Percy believes that people can only learn from experiences that are driven by pure personal
desire, and not experiences already preconceived by experts. Percy describes the "loss of
sovereignty" as preconceived notions of an experience with the help of experts. W.E.B Du Bois, on
the other hand, wrote an essay called, "The Souls of Black Folk" that contradicts Percy's term of the
"loss of sovereignty". Du Bois strongly believes that with the help of experts, people can then learn
what they need to get ahead in life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Du Bois said that nothing will change in the educational system, thus, the students never get a
chance to explore other than what experts expect and give them to learn. Percy would describe Du
Bois students as "simple" students who are letting expert opinions control what they do, and how
they perceive information. The expert's guidance help to "form [the thoughts] in the sightseer's
mind" (Percy, 566), thus, it takes away from the genuine experience. Percy would describe Du Bois
students as "simple" students who are letting expert opinions control what they do, and how they
perceive information.
Percy would disagree with Du Bois that "old time glorified methods of delving the Truth, and
searching the hidden beauties of life, and learning the good of living" is through being a "simple"
student. One cannot be forced into liking something if they are truly not interested in it, but Du Bois
argued that education is something that is necessary without taking into consideration the students
desire to learn. Percy though, argued with an example that, "A student who has the desire to get at a
dogfish or a Shakespeare sonnet may have the greatest difficulty in salvaging the creature itself from
the educational package in which it is presented" (573). Percy suggests that the "educational
package"

Analysis of the Fallout New Vegas Video Game
Fallout New Vegas takes place in post–nuclear Las Vegas, where the New California Republic
(NCR) and Caesars' Legion are battling it out for control of the strip. You are a random courier who
wakes up in the small town of New Springs after being shot in the head. After being patched up, you
set off into the Mojave to find out who shot you. When Fallout New Vegas was announced, I was
not interested in it at all. I had never heard of the Fallout games beforehand, and it just seemed like a
very generic shooter. Was I ever wrong. Fallout New Vegas is now one of my favourite games of all
time. The most amazing thing about Fallout New Vegas is the atmosphere. The game has a very
nineteen fifty's style to it. In the more civilized parts of New Vegas people walk around with the
elvis–style jackets and the flowing skirts that were popular in the 50's. There is also an optional in–
game radio which belts out popular fifties and sixties tunes from the likes of Nat King Cole and
Dean Martin. It all really makes you feel like you're actually there. Another thing that makes Fallout
New Vegas great is overall game–play. The game is a mix between a shooter and a role–playing
game. The game takes place from a first person perspective and your character generally uses guns
and laser weapons, but you also level up. When you level up you get experience points to upgrade
different skills like your ability to fix things or your speaking skills. If you want to be able to talk

Benefits Of Living In A Shared House In College
Living in a shared house while you are in college is for sure your life experience. Either you have
great, good or not that good experience, there is a high possibility that what you experience in a
shared house remain in your memories for the rest of your life. One of the reasons might be the fact
that you have to live with people that probably you had never seen before. Moreover, those people
can be from different parts of the country. But whatever the reason, anyone who study far from his
or her hometown has a strong impact on his or her life, where very positive o very negative.
When a person move to another city because of college, positively influenced by the change. First of
all because it is a great opportunity to expand someone's friendship, for example if the person move
to a house where there are ten other students, which are usually from different towns or cities, it is a
chance to have ten more friends. At the same time, it allows to know more about those owns,
because despite the fact that they are in the same country and even in the same region, there are
slight cultural differences such as different names for the same fruit for example.
On the other hand, people's experience living in a shared house may not be the best, especially for
those ones who had never been left home. For them, it might be really difficult because usually they
are not used to do housework, and as they are on they are on they own, they might experience some
frustration. For example, a

Reflective Essay On Mental Illness
Faced with the overwhelming stigma that surrounds mental illness, we have spent the semester
learning how to break down doorways into the lives of characters who have struggled with their
mental health. Far too often have these doors been kept bolted shut. As a consequence of public fear
and lack of understanding, the people behind these doors –– individuals with mental illnesses ––
have been given no choice but to struggle in silence. In reading various works throughout the
semester, we have been able to begin to challenge the stigma that surrounds mental illness. Trying to
gain understanding, we have not only opened doorways, but we have begun to construct empathic
tunnels between our own lives and the unfamiliar universes of characters with mental illness.
Reading the novels throughout this class sometimes made me uncomfortable, usually hurt my heart,
and always made me ask questions –– and I think that's the whole point. The novels we read gave
voices to people who felt like they did not have a voice, because they had been silenced for so long.
Refracted through various time periods and genres, the novels we read provided insight into the
progression of mental illness throughout decades, namely into how mental illness is regarded by the
public. Maybe we don't treat people exactly like how the unnamed narrator in "The Yellow
Wallpaper" was treated anymore, and maybe we have a better understanding of mental illness now
than we did during Edna St. Vincent Millay's time,

Odds Against Tomorrow Character Analysis
As each day passes, the events that we encounter enters through each and everyone of our minds and
becomes an assimilation of experiences. Over a long period of time one's past experiences come to
affect how they see newer ones. As each and every experience fills our minds, it creates an
expectation or order in which our judgment causes us to assume or create reason for the future to
become a certain way. This process can be viewed as perspective, perspective influences your
actions, emotions, it can be a complete "rulebook" for the way a person becomes and acts. In the
book Odds Against Tomorrow, by Nathaniel Rich as we explore the world through the eyes of one
character, Mitchelle, we began to notice a possibly very eccentric perspective on life and chance.
Throughout the book we notice other characters and their views on the same events. This then relays
back to previous experiences or life events that these characters have undergone. Overall through the
reading we can notice a theme of multiple or different perspectives, that fact of which perspectives
are right or where these perspectives come from is determined by the reader. One can simply
conclude that because of the past experiences or events that an individual has encountered
throughout their life this then becomes a major deciding factor in their new perceptive. This
perspective can change, as the events that we experience come to change as well. For example an
overflow of optimism may be encountered after one

Examples Of Conflict In Girl In The Green Sweater

  • 1. Examples Of Conflict In Girl In The Green Sweater In many books authors use elements of literature to get crucial points across, such as how Krystyna Chiger did in her book, Girl in the Green Sweater. Using conflict, foreshadowing, and symbolism, Krystyna was able to explain and show her experiences during Hitler's regime (when most of the Jewish race was persecuted). When analyzing the data presented, one can see how the author was able to convey her message of struggle and survival that families in The Girl in the Green Sweater endured during the Holocaust, so that the reader could relate to the characters and situation using conflict, foreshadowing, and symbolism. Conflict was one of the many elements Chiger used to express the families' experiences during the holocaust; for example she used man versus nature to express the families against the sewer conditions, man versus society to show how they had to go against Nazi Germany because of their religion, and man versus self to show how she, as a seven year old girl, had to go against her own mind because of the persecutions, pogroms, assassinations, etc. she had experienced. Krystyna was experiencing man versus self during a part in the book when she felt melancholy and was noncommunicative; to explain this further, "I could be philosophical at times...I was not self–aware... I could not put what I was feeling into words. I would not even try" (Chiger 222). Conflict, one of the major literary elements, is used a lot in The Girl in the Green Sweater; it is used to ... • 3. Examples Of Atticus Finch In To Kill A Mockingbird Atticus Finch: Wise and Experienced Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird tells of a town in Alabama, called Maycomb. In this deeply– rooted racist town, there is a trial against an African American man, accused of raping a white woman. One man, however, Atticus Finch, has the opportunity to help the the man on trial. Although he knows he will lose the trial, he takes the case anyway. Atticus is respected in Maycomb, and known for his wisdom and experience. He is a good–hearted, egalitarian man who is always there and willing to provide guidance to his children and to the town of Maycomb, with his years of practice and experience. Atticus uses logic and wisdom to prove his points, along with facts; he knows a great deal of information, but never flaunts his knowledge, instead using it to help people. Harper Lee portrays Atticus as experienced in everything he does, having him explain and teach his life lessons. Lee starts to show Atticus' experience early on in the book, and it is clear that Atticus has learned a lot throughout his lifetime. "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... until you climb in his skin and walk around in it." (39) Here, Harper Lee continues to achieve the theme of Atticus' experience. Atticus may have learned this lesson from a past issue or event, however his background is not discussed in the Olson 2 book. He wants his children to realize that others have their own point of view and their choices ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Scout's Experience In To Kill A Mockingbird The sun still rose in the east and set in the west. Birds still flew and fish still swam. The citizens of Maycomb proceeded with their lives as normal, but Scout felt as though everything was different. Scout developed and matured enormously throughout Harper Lee's novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. Prolonged summers, during The Great Depression, consisted of acting out characters, spying on the mysterious Arthur (Boo) Radley, and running around wild and free. These jaunty summers frequently overshadowed the realities of Scout's world. As her life continued, experiences and encounters provided her the opportunity to step out of the picture frame and see the entire picture. Scout's perspective is continually altered and progressed through challenging situations with Miss Caroline, experiences of goodness and solidarity in the black community with Calpurnia, and situations when her once fictional neighbor, Boo Radley, became a reality. Experiences with Miss Caroline, Scout's teacher, provided Atticus the opportunity to teach Scout a lesson on perspective. Scout had endured an appalling first day of school. Miss Caroline punished and embarrassed her for attempting to explain that one should not give a Cunningham money because they cannot repay the debt. Scout did not understand what she had done to make Miss Caroline so cross with her. Drowning in frustration, Scout expressed her desire to quit school because she did not want to face Miss Caroline again. After ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Last Night Sharon Olds Analysis "Last Night" Versus "Seniors" What does love have to do with sex? Sex is always considered a taboo and controversial topic, whereas most think they know something about love, and they're more than willing to give others "unwanted" free advice. However, very few people talk about both in depth together. "Last Night" by Sharon Olds and "Seniors" by Alberto Rios cover a variety of topics, but most importantly they both cover love and sex. More specifically, they cover both what the male and female thoughts are about sex, what their expectations are during the act, and where love comes into play. Both speakers are memorializing their past experiences, the experiences between the two are exceedingly different. Both poems have very similar intentions, ... • 9. Personal Narrative: Classcraft In which I jump feet first into Classcraft Over the summer I attended EdCamp Magic in Orlando, FL. During the door prize section of the day, my pal Amber (@edtechamber – follow her, she's full of good) won a Premium Subscription to Classcraft, a service that she didn't need in her position. So quickly, I adopted the not–as–subtle–as–it–thinks–it–is "share the treats, please?" pose that my dog gets when I open the cupboard. When she asked me if I wanted it, I was all yes. Classcraft is kind of like Class Dojo meets Dungeons and Dragons. It has more of a story to it, and more of a collaborative feel, as students work together in teams. As this school year has started to pick up, my kids and I are really enjoying it so far. Rather than writing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I'm pretty easy going most of the time, but when it gets too noisy and I need it quiet for a moment, I have difficulty reining it in. With Classcraft, I've added in some outside sound effects and danger to warn them of noise. I found a dungeon soundboard online (shoutout, Tabletop Audio!). When it gets a little too noisy, I hit the Growl button (volume on LOUD), my eyes get really big, and I say, "Oh no, I think we're traveling past some Orcs (or dragons, or some other beasties)!" and the kids quiet down. If that doesn't work, I hit the Roar button on the soundboard, and then the Random Team button on Classcraft, "Oh no, the Magical Mountains just got attacked by a band of Orcs!" I roll a die and add on that they each took that much damage. It works, and it's fun, even when we get hit. My kids love getting their work done early. "Can I go on Classcraft?" they like to see how close they are to leveling up, or to using class earned gold to buy new armor. Because we have the Premium version, I'm able to create Quests to review content, and then we can go on the quest as a class by battling a creature. One thing I'd like to see, though, is the ability to assign the quest to individuals. Wouldn't it be cool to use the quests as online quizzes? Fingers crossed that I just don't understand that function, or that it's coming... There's also a Classroom Content Library that you can add readings to, but I haven't played with that ... • 11. My Moment In My Life High Point A moment in my life that stands out as an especially positive experience is when I graduated high school. The day occurred on June 15, 2015 at the Jiffy Lube live arena stage in my hometown of Manassas, Virginia. The people involved in this positive experience were myself, my mother, father, sister, family friends, my friends, administrators, teachers, and peers. I woke up in the morning around 9:00 am, showered, got dressed packed all of my essentials for my graduation, and drove to one of my friend's house where all of my friends and I got ready for graduation. My friends and I spent several hours getting ready, taking, photos for our family members before our ceremony. Then we went to the graduation location and waited for an hour in our designated spots for when walk out. The ceremony began at 7:00, the speakers spoke for about 30 minutes, then names were called. My named was called early on, I walked across the stage, my mom calling my name out, I smiled to her as I spotted her in the crowd. Then I shook the hands of the administrators, received my diploma and walked of the stage. On this day I was thinking about how I was finally going to finish my four year long journey. At that point every choice I had made in my academic career led to this moment of accomplishment. I was also thinking of how it was a long process to get to my graduation day and that walking across the stage not only would be positive for me, but for others who were important to me and a ... • 13. The Loss Of The Creature By Walker Percy In the essay "The Loss of the Creature", Walker Percy highlights his observations on how people perceive the world. He argues that we have lost original, self–driven learning because people only measure their experiences based on other people's expectations. He states how these preconceived expectations of our experiences give way to a symbolic complex. This complex is set by what people or "Layman" believe the experts have set. Therefore, their experience is only validated if people feel that they have met those criteria. He believes that people can only have a true experience if they forgo all those preconceived expectations and biases. Only then can people truly experience something at face value. To present his ideas in a more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was a freedom to his experience that is uniquely his. As more people have traveled to the canyon and authorities have stepped in, we have been told how to experience it. We do not get to discover what the canyon means to us but are walked through what the experts believe is the best way to see it. He puts it best by using the example of the tourist who has waited his whole life to see the canyon. Once he gets there, he is only comparing what he sees in front of him with what he has seen in other places like postcards and pictures. He says that we do not appreciate the sheer vastness or the enormity of what has been laid in front of us but instead spend our time taking pictures and judging our experiences by how many shots we take. Daily, I fight a battle with social media. The most prominent example is not getting wrapped up in taking pictures and up loading them for others to see and "Like". I make a conscious effort to make sure my life does not consist of getting validation from others about my thoughts or my actions. There is a fine line between sharing and sharing for authentication. This causes people to give others the ability to assign value to a person's experiences. Not only is the value detracted by our expectations but by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Reflection Of My Paintings My paintings are a reflection of my personal experiences and my imagination. My aim to paint is not just to master the technique but to feel and connect with the subject. By balancing the art of memory and personal experience, I create works that narrate a story. I believe my works are just like novels. Each painting is a different chapter from my life. These visual compositions may not be the exact representation of the particular event but they do symbolize the incident. I create with daily, recognizable elements, a situation in which the viewer is also a part of the work and he is confronted with the conditioning of his own perception and has to reconsider his biased position. purpose of the work Frida Kahlo said "I paint self portraits because I'm so often alone, because I am the person I know best." • 17. Summary Of Some Lessons From The Assembly Line Could you make it in the grind of the assembly line in the blue–collar world? In reading Braaksma's "Some Lessons From The Assembly Line", the main idea is how important college education is, which is conveyed in a number of different ways. The author looks at the experience they had at assembling line job on their summer break and how awful it was. Comparing it to the easy–going lifestyle as a college student. The article's main claim of education being an important avenue to take is an important lesson to be taken seriously because of the author's negative view of the assembly line, positive view of being at school, and the value the author holds in education. Braaksma starts with his argument by his negative view of the assembly line. The author gained this view from his first–hand experiences. As we take a look at what happened we will see the cons of this world, and what kind of life this can lead to. With this stance, he will discourage the reader from life on the assembly line. The author continues to use the information that he discovered in his experience to compel the reader to understand the importance of education; dissuading them from entering this field. There are a number of descriptions the author gives from low pay, high physical exertion, long hours, and lack of job security (Braaksma, 2005). This leaves little to the imagination on how it is to work in this environment, furthermore, it leaves little to be desired in the industry. Without education, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Analysis Of Deliverance By James Dickey "'I remember almost every day that I was in the war, and I think almost everything that I've done is influenced at least to some degree(...) by the fact that I was in the war'"(Dickey). James Dickey wrote his novel Deliverance based off much of his own experiences in war. In his novel, narrator Ed is in a predicament. He feels like life is floating by without actually experiencing it. When his friend Lewis comes along and offers him the canoe trip of a lifetime, Ed is all in. These two are joined by two other city slickers to set off on an adventure that will change their lives. James Dickey wrote this adventure with a different kind of experience in mind. A participant in World War II, the conflict was still fresh in his mind and this shows in the journey on the river. The trip that these men take is eerily similar to the journey Dickey participates in throughout the war. Leaving for the war and leaving for the canoe trip both elicit the same feelings of excitement, doubt, and loss. The trials on the river include many of the same trials people in war go through such as death and guilt. Finally, the return home both from war and from the canoe trip both have negative impacts on the psyche. The men's' obstacles in their departure, encounters with adversity, and return home are a metaphor for the struggles of war. Dickey's motivations and feelings about going off to war resonate with Ed's feelings about leaving on the canoe trip. Ed is at a point in his life where nothing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Reflection Paper Our excursion to Japan was full of inspiring and fulfilling experiences for me. The foremost part of our journey, to Tokushima and the Awagami Factory, was what I was initially so excited for. Between my studies of printmaking, papermaking, and Japanese art history– Awagami was the initial anticipated zenith of my trip to Japan. It was an absolute dream come true. Paper has long been a fascination of mine as it's a printmaker's primary medium. Awagami washi paper is renowned among printmakers and the opportunity to partake in the traditional process from collection, cleaning, preparation, and completion into the final thin yet strong sheets of washi paper was wonderful. I was so inspired by the facility and the process that I made sure to take detailed notes in the hope of continuing my own papermaking process back in the United States. Another occurrence that has altered my own artistic practices and inspired me for future art works– including our final sculptural pieces for this class– was our trip to Inujima Island and the Inujima Seirensho Art Museum. The second piece we encountered, a piece entitled "Solar Rock" by Yukinori Yanagi which used pieces of Yukio Mishima's Shoto home, was an influential piece into my own practices. The larger than life, imagined, presence of this piece was achieved through the "expanded" walls of a theoretical home. • 23. In Response To The Globalization Of Superficiality Analysis In his 2010 speech, Rev. Adolfo Nicolás, S.J., Superior General of the Society of Jesus, said "In response to the globalization of superficiality, I suggest that we need to study the emerging cultural world of our students more deeply and find creative ways of promoting depth of thought, and imagination, a depth that is transformative of the person." Fr. Nicolás is reminding us to take a step back when learning new information. He is reminding us to stand above the flood of information we experience faster and after due to new technology. He stresses the need for thought out information over fast information. The "globalization of superficiality" refers to this widespread trend of disconnection between well thought out human interaction. Father Nicolás is stressing the importance of considering sources and form our own analyses. But his concern stretches even deeper, to the way young people are using technology to hide from the world and connection with others. He is calling for Jesuit education to encourage deeper evaluation and participation of life's experiences. Computer Science is a rapidly growing field, not only in the US but all over the world. Through a semester abroad I hope to learn more about the world as well as how CS is growing overseas. Father Nicolás addressed how technology has increased the stresses access to information as fast as possible, over the quality of the information. Both through technology as my chosen field but also away from the world of zeros and ones. Although Father Nicolás is describing technology as the driving force behind the globalization of superficiality, I want my experience abroad to increase how I use my information to expand my depth of thought and imagination and use my computer skills to help others do so too. Father Nicolás mentions a "pedagogy" of Ignatian contemplation, how Ignatius asked us to look at all our senses when responding to a new experience. I can employ this method to my new experiences while studying abroad, in my studies toward my major and in exposure to another culture. Father Nicolás is reminding us to "stop and smell the roses" when experiencing new things, to take time to connect with others and our present surroundings. I fully intend ... The review will critically reflect my experience from this practicum, using readings and learnings my strengthens and weaknesses will be revealed. Strategies will also be implemented in what areas I need to focus on before my next practicum round. Something that I observed at the beginning of my practicum were the issues concerning behavioural guidance. There was a group of four boys who required the greatest assistance, my experience in managing people and being a parent quickly reminded me in how to best support them. Knowing each child and what their abilities and interests are enable educators to respond sensitively and appropriately to each child (Cohrssen, Church, & Tayler, 2011). I spoke with my mentor and other educators and discovered the backgrounds of these boys and reasonings for their behaviours. I learnt by observing the other educators how these behavioural guidance issues were managed and the many techniques they used. Something I realised with the learning experiences I conducted was the need to not speak too quickly and be clear and concise with my instructions. As I have had limited interaction with young children as my stepchildren are now adults, I was unaccustomed in how to effectively communicate with young children. At the beginning of my practicum the instructions and direction I was attempting to provide were too ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this game, you will meet thousands of players online to get involve into many activities to have fun. The original game first came out in 2004 in South Korea, but it was localized into North America in 2008. The game is free–to–play where it can be downloaded from the game website, but it must fulfill certain system requirements to properly play the game. ("Mabinogi." Mabinogi). Mabinogi is a game where the imagination is potentially endless than what I thought. When playing Mabinogi, I recommend playing the mainstream generations because the story plays a much darker event than what it looks like. In order to start the game, you will need to pick a server, create your character between the 3 races: Human, Elf or Giant, select a talent in the talent system, and use the tutorial to understand the combat system. The character will have the skills to find, train, and get stronger by gaining Experience Points (EXP) and Ability Points (AP). To gain AP, you will need to level up your character, complete some quests, or wait until Saturday to let your character 's age increase. If you are done leveling up with your character, you have the ability called, "Rebirth" where your character 's level will reset to 1, but you can keep your character 's current skill ranks, AP, items, funds, and achievements. • 29. My Life Lesson Trough A Teacher 's Eyes The Life Lesson Trough a Teacher's Eyes, is a book written by Dr. Jillian Laderhouse. This book is like a journal where Dr. Laterhouse tells personal experiences that have shaped her life. The book commences off with a strongly affirmation where Dr. Latehouse states that be a teacher is her life's calling. In the introduction of the book Laterhouse establish her foundation as a teacher, she mentioned many experiences that shape her as a teacher and recall the fact that she lived in a teacher profession family. She mentioned stories about her childhood, stories that have shaped her life into the teacher profession; she stated "I grew in a teacher's home". As I read the book I noticed that I have not had the same opportunity as Laterhouse to live in a teacher's home. However, as I continue reading the book I saw that the lessons learned by the author can help me even though I did not grow in a teacher's home. It is evident in the book the spiritual life and God centered life. Laterhouse dived her book in seven lesson learned. Every lesson brings me to reflect about God, about myself and about others. I consider that every lesson mentioned is important I will recall those points that I consider important to my life. The first lesson learned was from parenting. As Laterhouse mentioned "as believers we have guidance available to us through prayer and Scripture, but became believers does not automatically equip us with the insights and techniques to be a parent." • 31. The Mind : Paper Two Phi of Mind: Paper Two I. Introduction In this paper, four important features of qualia will be made explicit. From these, we will examine two specific features of qualia (privacy and immediate apprehensibility) which Dennett attempts to debunk in his article, Quining Qualia. His reasoning – in the form of intuition pumps – will be critiqued, and a rejection formulated. II. Qualities of Qualia Qualia are traditionally held to possess four characteristics that make them unique. They are ineffable, intrinsic, private, and immediately apprehensible within consciousness. Listing these attributes is all well and good, but what are they? Ineffability refers to the incommunicability of qualia. Attempting to use language to capture qualia seems to miss part of the experience, or to reduce and simplify the experience until it can be made to conform to what language can communicate. Qualia seems so content–rich that moving it into public understanding necessarily entails its simplification. Consider the jalapeño and habanero peppers. If I were to eat both, I would experience two separate qualia – one for the jalapeno and one for the habanero. In language, I could describe both as 'spicy'. More practically, I could describe the jalapeno as 'very spicy' and the habanero as 'mutilatingly spicy '. I could be as creative or precise as possible to try to relay the qualia of the peppers, and I could certainly give a listener an image of some sort of quale one might have. Still, there ... Internship Statement For Internship This summer I was very fortunate to be given the opportunity to participate in a research and development internship at the world's largest snack company, Mondelēz International, which is known for its iconic brands such as Oreo, Sour Patch Kids, Triscuit, Trident, Swedish Fish, Cadbury, and many more. The headquarters for this international giant is located in Chicago, Illinois; however, I was employed in the research and development center positioned in East Hanover, New Jersey. Completing my second year at Penn State last May fully aware that I would be moving to New Jersey from my small hometown around Erie, PA, I was under the perception that I had an idea of what the summer would hold for me. However, this was an overstatement, for what I experienced in the time between May and August truly altered my viewpoint on education, business, and food science. Accepting the offer to participate in an internship with Mondelēz International last fall, I understood that the experience would be very enriching, for this was what my professors and older students conveyed. I set goals such as attempting to act as a sponge, extracting every single experience/knowledge that I could from professionals in the industry, networking with other food science students participating in the internship as well as the mentors that would be leading me through the project, exposing myself to a different lifestyle as a salary employee and resident of uniquely cultured New Jersey, and many others. ... I believed that I was wired to think the way I do, and that nothing in particular had to be the cause for my feelings on certain things. By writing this paper and learning about values, I was able to take a hard look at myself and figure out what my personal values stem from. My values relating to the key issues of women's reproduction, poverty/money, health care in America, and minority groups have blossomed out of personal experiences and experiences I have heard about from those close to me. I also found several themes that underlie why I have the values that I do, and why I think about these topics in the way that I do. Women's reproduction is the most important of the topics to me, because when it comes to women's reproduction I look at the subject from two points of view. The first point of view I see is the main reason the topic is discussed, which is the sexual/reproductive side. The other point I see is my own personal experience, which has nothing to do with reproduction but concerns health. My core values relative to this area are dignity and worth of a person and social justice. I chose these two because I think every woman should be able to access forms of birth control and abortion without being criticized. Not being able to do that, in my view, is discrimination. I think the woman who is choosing these actions is of enough worth to be able to make the right decision for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At that time, our shelter was not full and therefore had space for the mother and her children. I went through the procedural routine of making sure that she was not in the center's blue books, a record of clients not allowed to receive shelter and/or services, and seeing if she had an alpha card already completed, this would mean that she was a previous client at the shelter and already had a file. These pages find out more about the client's demographics, her current physical and mental health state, how many children she has and if she could be pregnant at the time, her abuser's demographics, and the presenting primary abuse occurring. I completed these two pages with Julie* and then from that point an approval staff member will tell you if you can complete the rest of the intake or tell the client that at the time we cannot offer them services. The best advice that I ever received from a mentor of mine was that instead of trying to be the best at something you should instead focus on being a well–rounded person. That is the way that I have tried to live my life and it has led me to great success thus far. This is the primary reason why I support students taking classes outside of their major. It leads to much more well–rounded adults who are knowledgeable in many different subject areas. Even though it may not be that enjoyable, taking classes outside of your major introduces you to a wide range of knowledge. Socially it helps you interact with a wide range of people in all kinds of different social settings. You are able to speak intelligently to many different people about a plethora of different subjects. Additionally, it is important to consider that a majority of people choose a major based on what they are good at and are interested in. For many people math classes are very challenging. If we left those people to their own devices they would probably never take a math class again. Now math is obviously a very important skill regardless of your future career choice and it's a class that everyone should take. Even if it may not be that enjoyable. I now have only one client on my caseload, since the other had voluntarily exited herself and her son. On Monday, 10/31/16, I was able to help the children in shelter celebrate Halloween. My brother is one who came back with several great experiences. He got to see the world. Studying abroad is a thing that will get students out of the U.S. They will be out of the area that they most likely lived in their whole life. This experience will introduced them to a new culture that is unique. They will be part of a completely new culture and surrounded by that culture. Too many students only know what's in the US. She is arguing that more students need to be prepared from the beginning of the experience and even when they are going back home to the states. The question was posed by a man named Alan Watts and he asked, "What would you like to do if money were no object?" This inquiry seems to be wandering the internet a bit because this was roughly the third time that I have regarded it, so I took it as a sign and I paused to direct this question to myself. Of course, there is a multitude of things that I yearn to do. If money wasn't the issue like many of us make it out to be, of course, there would be ample to do. I discern that this question is posed more for what type of work would you do but I was thinking about stuff that I would love to do regardless. The most predominate desire for me is to travel. I love to write and that will always be a constant thing, but I think it would be great to do both. I recognize that many people would have a similar response, yet my strong desire to travel made me consider deeply as to why I had such a tenacious want for it. I believe one of the reasons why that deep down, we still hold on to the ancient survival instinct of migration, which can never really be satisfied. I believe that this could also hold true for me. As I think more about it, I find that it was not really the destinations that I want to go to but the means of the journey that I wish to experience. • 51. Abortion In The Mother By Gwendolyn Brooks The poem, "The Mother" by Gwendolyn Brooks has a very powerful context regarding abortion. Abortion is very common throughout the United States, so Brooks poem is still very relatable till this day. The Concept and result of abortion is a very difficult for almost all mothers who have the dreadful experience of abortion; but there are a few parents who can still adjust easily. Gwendolyn Brooks poem gives us very insightful point of views. She gives us her point of view as well as other mothers who are not specifically mentioned in the stanzas of the poem. Brooks does this by describing her love, commemorations, doubt, and finally her traumas when experiencing abortion. In the beginning, of the poems stanzas she gives us a brief glanz on her thoughts on abortion. On the second line of the first verse Brooks begins by stating her speech in a second point of view to address it specifically to her audience. When speaking from the second point of view Gwendolyn Brooks speaks about experiences and how her children did not undergo the achievements that were set out in life. Then suddenly on the second stanza she immediately switches to first point of view referencing herself numerous amount of times. We can see Gwendolyn tone of speech switch drastically to an extent where it seems as if the matter of abortion has became very intimate. Also from the very beginning of the poem the Mother we can see how traumatic the events of losing a child can be and how this can cause a mother to be trapped within an emotional ball of misery of some sort. This suddenly lets us realize as an audience that she isn't reminiscing about one misfortune but a group of tragical memories. We can see this from this example Brooks states on the very first line of her poem " Abortions will not let you forget" referring to her first miserable memory. Then on the first line of her second verse she proceeds by stating "Voices of my dim killed children" referring to the multiple voices of abortion. This can also mean the difficulties a mother encounters when dealing with one abortion; keep on adding more and this leads to even more misery and terrible memories than a mother initially had experienced. • 55. Summary Of On Natural Death By Lewis Thomas On Natural Death In his essay "On Natural Death", research pathologist, medical doctor, and biologist Lewis Thomas attempts to console the reader about the weighty topic of death by referencing his own observations, citing scientific facts and statistics, and using the universal fear and unknown of eternal rest. Thomas first points to the example of the unforeseen death of an elm tree in his own backyard. The death of an inanimate lifeform is something with which most people are familiar and probably even comfortable. This first hand experience displays a situation in which death is quick and free of pain. It also shows how quickly death can tranpire; in this situation, the tree appeared to be in perfect health just a week before its sudden passing. The story of a dying mouse displays Thomas's own sorrow at the demise of a fellow mammal and former participant in life. The reader is naturally brought to empathize with Thomas's sentiments by his use of firsthand emotions and experiences. Thomas even calls upon the reader to understand the feelings of the mouse itself by describing what the experience likely felt to the mouse –– painless to the extent that the mouse is inclined to shrug. Another of his observations is that of two soldiers' unfortunate fatalities after being in a mortal automobile accident. This example brings the reality of death even closer to the reader, as this time the it is experienced by human beings not unlike the reader. This situation is akin to that ... In this part, one finds the effort that Lily makes to transform her vision of life and the world into art and the aesthetic problems she has with it. She decides to continue with the painting she started. There is an evolution of her vision from the beginning of the novel until the end. We jumped with joy carrying our heavy superhero backpacks and Capri–Suns in hand as she made us laugh with her story of the day. In the midst of excitement, we were given a challenge. Smiling, my mother told us that if we could guess who was home that she would tell us what movie she brought for us to watch. But to no avail, our guesses were off. Being the nice person I knew she was, she told us anyway, "Do you know about the movie Rush–hour?" My brother and I looked at each other in disbelief and held our breath. No matter when or where they are, Dana and Kevin determine the truth through what see and what they already know. Kevin and Dana first conflict when Dana returns to 1976 for the first time. Kevin is in disbelief about where Dana went, as he suggests what she experienced was "a dream" (17). He says this despite the fact that he saw Dana disappear and reappear, something out of the ordinary. His perspective is different from Dana's, meaning what he sees isn't always what actually happens. Dana goes back in time, while Kevin saw Dana "vanish and reappear" (16). Despite not knowing what Dana experienced, he still believes his point of view is a fact. Kevin insists Dana's experience was a "dream," and refers to his perspective as "facts" (16). By doing so, he asserts his perspective, the white male perspective, is objective and truthful, while Dana's is illegitimate. Kevin's view is similar to how the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Siddhartha and Govinda Essay Siddhartha and Govinda Siddhartha, written by Herman Heese, is a book about a man's journey to find his inner self beginning when he is young and ending when he is of old age. Siddhartha, while on this quest, searched for different mentors to teach him what they know, hoping to find truth and balance in and of the universe. At the end of the novel, Siddhartha reaches the enlightenment through many teachings. Govinda, Siddhartha dearest friend and confident, is often viewed as his Siddhartha's follower, or as his shadow. In the beginning, Siddhartha goes with Gotama to hear the teachings of the Buddha, and Govinda remains with Buddha to become his disciple. Siddhartha believes that each person must find his or her own way to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After being asked how he was able to reach enlightenment, Siddhartha draws the distinction between knowledge and wisdom. He says, " No, I am telling you what I discovered. Knowledge can be communicated, but not wisdom. One can find it, live it, be forfeited by it, do wonders through it, but one cannot communicate and teach it." (115). Siddhartha shares many teachings he has learned with Govinda. Siddhartha holds up a stone in example, showing that one thing is enfolded in the past, present, and future. He also stated that language is only a device, and that wisdom is not communicable. This means that, through experience, wisdom is attainable, but if you trying to teach enlightenment, the meaning will not be fully appreciated to whom it is taught. We also learn that not only Samana has left its mark on Siddhartha, but that also his brief contact with Buddha left its mark also. The Buddhist doctrine shows two opposites are Samsara and Nirvana. All truth has these two opposites, the truth side and the illusion side. When Gotama admits he has still not found peace, he suddenly has an inexpressible experience much like Siddhartha had when he met Vasudeva years before. Siddhartha then summons Govinda to kiss him on the forehead. Govinda feels as if he is touching perfection, the illustrious one, eternity, and gets a mystical transference from Siddhartha. ... • 67. Evaluating Kant 's Intentions For Each Premise Here I hope to reflect Kant's intentions for each premise in the order presented above. (P1): I am conscious of my experience as determined in time. P1 can be interpreted a few ways. Dicker in his first interpretation takes his second premise to mean, (P2): I am aware that I have representations in experience that occur in temporal succession (Dicker 195). In other words, I am not only conscious of my experiences; I am also in a position where I recognize the order of my experiences presented by my own mental representations. Ordering representations is only possible if these representations are determined in time. A thing which merely persists in perception does not itself reveal whether the persisting object occurred in any particular order. (B275). So, seeing that I can determine the order in time of my own subjective experiences, then there needs an additional capacity other than my own experiences allowing me to do so. Currently, we have rested the first two premises as possible. Accordingly, I will maintain subjective experiences do not expose the determinate time–order alone. This conclusion is not explicitly stated in Dicker's reconstruction. In the B–version, Kant introduces a revised third premise (included above). Kant writes, that representations need a second party persisting distinct from the representations. This idea illustrates what information from representations might be sufficient in determining time–orders. there seems to be something other than the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. The Loss of the Creature vs the Souls of Black Folk Essay... Walker Percy's essay, "The Loss of the Creature" describes the experiences that each person goes through as either a genuine experience driven by own desires, or one that is already preconceived by experts. Percy believes that people can only learn from experiences that are driven by pure personal desire, and not experiences already preconceived by experts. Percy describes the "loss of sovereignty" as preconceived notions of an experience with the help of experts. W.E.B Du Bois, on the other hand, wrote an essay called, "The Souls of Black Folk" that contradicts Percy's term of the "loss of sovereignty". Du Bois strongly believes that with the help of experts, people can then learn what they need to get ahead in life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Du Bois said that nothing will change in the educational system, thus, the students never get a chance to explore other than what experts expect and give them to learn. Percy would describe Du Bois students as "simple" students who are letting expert opinions control what they do, and how they perceive information. The expert's guidance help to "form [the thoughts] in the sightseer's mind" (Percy, 566), thus, it takes away from the genuine experience. Percy would describe Du Bois students as "simple" students who are letting expert opinions control what they do, and how they perceive information. Percy would disagree with Du Bois that "old time glorified methods of delving the Truth, and searching the hidden beauties of life, and learning the good of living" is through being a "simple" student. One cannot be forced into liking something if they are truly not interested in it, but Du Bois argued that education is something that is necessary without taking into consideration the students desire to learn. Percy though, argued with an example that, "A student who has the desire to get at a dogfish or a Shakespeare sonnet may have the greatest difficulty in salvaging the creature itself from the educational package in which it is presented" (573). Percy suggests that the "educational package" ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Analysis of the Fallout New Vegas Video Game Fallout New Vegas takes place in post–nuclear Las Vegas, where the New California Republic (NCR) and Caesars' Legion are battling it out for control of the strip. You are a random courier who wakes up in the small town of New Springs after being shot in the head. After being patched up, you set off into the Mojave to find out who shot you. When Fallout New Vegas was announced, I was not interested in it at all. I had never heard of the Fallout games beforehand, and it just seemed like a very generic shooter. Was I ever wrong. Fallout New Vegas is now one of my favourite games of all time. The most amazing thing about Fallout New Vegas is the atmosphere. The game has a very nineteen fifty's style to it. In the more civilized parts of New Vegas people walk around with the elvis–style jackets and the flowing skirts that were popular in the 50's. There is also an optional in– game radio which belts out popular fifties and sixties tunes from the likes of Nat King Cole and Dean Martin. It all really makes you feel like you're actually there. Another thing that makes Fallout New Vegas great is overall game–play. The game is a mix between a shooter and a role–playing game. The game takes place from a first person perspective and your character generally uses guns and laser weapons, but you also level up. When you level up you get experience points to upgrade different skills like your ability to fix things or your speaking skills. If you want to be able to talk ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Benefits Of Living In A Shared House In College Living in a shared house while you are in college is for sure your life experience. Either you have great, good or not that good experience, there is a high possibility that what you experience in a shared house remain in your memories for the rest of your life. One of the reasons might be the fact that you have to live with people that probably you had never seen before. Moreover, those people can be from different parts of the country. But whatever the reason, anyone who study far from his or her hometown has a strong impact on his or her life, where very positive o very negative. When a person move to another city because of college, positively influenced by the change. First of all because it is a great opportunity to expand someone's friendship, for example if the person move to a house where there are ten other students, which are usually from different towns or cities, it is a chance to have ten more friends. At the same time, it allows to know more about those owns, because despite the fact that they are in the same country and even in the same region, there are slight cultural differences such as different names for the same fruit for example. On the other hand, people's experience living in a shared house may not be the best, especially for those ones who had never been left home. For them, it might be really difficult because usually they are not used to do housework, and as they are on they are on they own, they might experience some frustration. For example, a ... • 75. Reflective Essay On Mental Illness Faced with the overwhelming stigma that surrounds mental illness, we have spent the semester learning how to break down doorways into the lives of characters who have struggled with their mental health. Far too often have these doors been kept bolted shut. As a consequence of public fear and lack of understanding, the people behind these doors –– individuals with mental illnesses –– have been given no choice but to struggle in silence. In reading various works throughout the semester, we have been able to begin to challenge the stigma that surrounds mental illness. Trying to gain understanding, we have not only opened doorways, but we have begun to construct empathic tunnels between our own lives and the unfamiliar universes of characters with mental illness. Reading the novels throughout this class sometimes made me uncomfortable, usually hurt my heart, and always made me ask questions –– and I think that's the whole point. The novels we read gave voices to people who felt like they did not have a voice, because they had been silenced for so long. Refracted through various time periods and genres, the novels we read provided insight into the progression of mental illness throughout decades, namely into how mental illness is regarded by the public. Maybe we don't treat people exactly like how the unnamed narrator in "The Yellow Wallpaper" was treated anymore, and maybe we have a better understanding of mental illness now than we did during Edna St. Vincent Millay's time, ... • 77. Odds Against Tomorrow Character Analysis As each day passes, the events that we encounter enters through each and everyone of our minds and becomes an assimilation of experiences. Over a long period of time one's past experiences come to affect how they see newer ones. As each and every experience fills our minds, it creates an expectation or order in which our judgment causes us to assume or create reason for the future to become a certain way. This process can be viewed as perspective, perspective influences your actions, emotions, it can be a complete "rulebook" for the way a person becomes and acts. In the book Odds Against Tomorrow, by Nathaniel Rich as we explore the world through the eyes of one character, Mitchelle, we began to notice a possibly very eccentric perspective on life and chance. Throughout the book we notice other characters and their views on the same events. This then relays back to previous experiences or life events that these characters have undergone. Overall through the reading we can notice a theme of multiple or different perspectives, that fact of which perspectives are right or where these perspectives come from is determined by the reader. One can simply conclude that because of the past experiences or events that an individual has encountered throughout their life this then becomes a major deciding factor in their new perceptive. This perspective can change, as the events that we experience come to change as well. For example an overflow of optimism may be encountered after one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
