2. The purpose of Universal
Design
• Designing a learning curriculum
that takes the student that has
been “average” or “marginalized”
and giving them something
unique
• Specifically students who are
either underserved by excelling
above their peers or students
who are over served and are
struggling in today’s classroom
• Taking these issues and making
them a successful learner by
allowing choices and options

3. Three principles
• How do we present the information to the learner? How do
we use multiple means in presenting?
• so everyone can learn the same information but in various
ways
• Provide Multiple means of action and expression
• students all will express what they know in different ways
• Provide Multiple means of engagement
• make it important to them and beneficial for learning
4. Four components for
creating learning
• What are its goals?
• What are the materials that will be in
that classroom?
• Are they a key to learning and are
they universally designed?
• The methods
• How does a teacher go about
teaching?
• The means of assessment
• How do we ensure that learning
really occurs?
5. How it helps education
• Reduces the disabilities among the learning
environment and therefore reducing the number of
students who are labeled as disabled
• Gives a guideline for teachers to notice the barriers that
may arrive for students, and discovering how to
overcome them
• Creates trust between the teachers, students, and
families in a way that every students is reached and the
education and assessment is seen as accountable
