Q6 – evaluation question
1. Q6 – WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT
TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF
CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?
J E M M A S H A W
2. FROM THIS PRODUCT I HAVE LEARNT TO USE A RANGE OF
DIFFERENT TECHNOLOGIES, SUCH AS:
• How to use and work a technical digital camera, (Digital SLR)
• Development and production of Photoshop skills
• Creating a WordPress Blog
• How to use a range of Microsoft Office programs, such as;
• Word
• Excel
• PowerPoint
• Uploading documents onto my blog using Slideshare and Google Docs
Google Docs
• Using the internet for research and images.
3. DIGITAL SLR CAMERA…
When using this camera I learnt how to:
Using and handling the camera safely,
How to use the focusing wheels accurately,
How to use the camera when working in an outside environment,
Work the flash.
I used this specific type of camera because digital cameras have viewing
screens on the camera body which allows me to view the image as soon as
I had clicked to view it. If I do not like the image I have taken I could either
delete it if it was of bad quality or take another photo that is of better
quality. Furthermore, digital cameras also have a large memory, therefore
can hold a large amount of photos allowing me to take as many shots as I
needed to get the perfect image for my magazine.
4. DEVELOPMENT/PRODUCTION OF PHOTO SHOP SKILLS…
Before creating my magazines I had never used Adobe Photoshop therefore
there was a variety of tools I learnt to use, such as;
Magic Wand tool
Transformation tools
Polygonal Lasso tool
Stroke tool
Eraser/blur tool
Adobe Photoshop was the best software to use when producing my media
product because it allowed me to create a high standard product that
looked professional. For example I wouldn’t have been able to keep my
colour scheme the exact same on my front cover and double page spread
without the use of the ‘eyedropper’ tool.
5. CREATING A WORD PRESS BLOG…
Creating a blog seemed like a challenge because I have never used one
before. However once I got to know the basics of how to navigate
around the system and uploading and editing posts it was quite an easy
task.
When producing my blog I had to make sure that I kept it interesting for
others to look at by using different software's to display my work, for
example uploading videos, word documents, PowerPoints and images .
6. USING A RANGE OF MICROSOFT PROGRAMS…
Even though I already knew how to use Microsoft Word and Microsoft
PowerPoint, I was able to develop further skills, for example creating
useful tables and creating a variety of designs.
However I struggled when using Microsoft Excel, this is because I was
unsure on how to create pie charts, I wanted to create these to show the
results of my questionnaire. To learn how to use this software I watched
a tutorial on YouTube as this gave me some independent learning. After
learning the steps of how to create a pie chart I was able to make them
successfully.
7. UPLOADING DOCUMENTS ONTO MY BLOG USING
SLIDESHARE AND GOOGLE DOCS…
I had never used slideshare or google docs before the making of my
product, this meant that I had to learn new skills such as;
Creating an account
Uploading documents
Using the software embed code to post them onto my blog
Without these sites I wouldn’t have been able to create a successful blog
for others and myself to view.
8. USING THE INTERNET…
When creating my product the internet played the most important role, this
is because it allowed me to research into other music magazines and
find out what the common conventions are and also get an idea of what
magazines similar to my genre looked like.
Furthermore, it also enabled me to use my blog and upload documents
using different software’s like slideshare, google docs and YouTube.
Without this technology, I wouldn’t have been able to make a successful
media product.
