Comprehensive Power was founded in 1998 by Frank Jones, who was
determined to design and build powerful, practical electric motors,
generators, controls and drives that provided customers reliable,
extraordinary solutions to tough, real world problems. Joined by Stuart
Jones, and a growing team of design and manufacturing talent, the
company grew by applying three rules to any business that they did.

6. TeraTorq® Products – Power. Packed.
TeraTorq® products are Comprehensive Power’s family of modular, configurable motors and
drives designed for high power density, high efficiency and exceptional torque. TeraTorq®
products address a broad range of applications using a shared product platform.
A truly configurable motor design makes it possible for Comprehensive Power to offer quick
delivery of motors that are optimized to specific customer requirements. TeraTorq® motors
and generators are designed from common building blocks that allow CPI to “dial in” exactly
the right mix of power, torque and speed by varying the dimensions, but not the design, of
TeraTorq® motor and generator components.
The TeraTorq® motor family consists of liquid-cooled motors and generators from 100 - 20,000
horsepower, built to withstand harsh environments and high axial shock loads. Powerful, compact
and lightweight, TeraTorq® motors and generators provide extraordinary torque and precise
control. They are equally at home in tight quarters on land, in water, at the top of a drill string
or in the hull of a workboat.
TeraTorq® compact control electronics are configured from 250HP/200kW TIM-270 modules –
system building blocks that provide high-performance intelligent power management. Each
TIM-270 can provide a multitude of functions, depending upon its deployment in the system.
Roles include DC to AC power inversion, AC to DC rectification, DC to DC conversion, power
balancing, driving electric motors and power transfer.
CPI’s TeraTorq® motors, designed with high power density and customized with an optional
hollow shaft, enable our oilfield customers to build compact electric top drives to fit into mobile
drilling rigs, replacing environmentally unfriendly hydraulics.

Our TeraTorq® motors power National Oilwell Varco’s IDS-350P top drive, which has been designed
specifically for land rigs, providing maximum capabilities in a package that fits smaller-profile masts.
