Situation:
The client had been using large scale application developed on VB6.0.It dealt with major business critical application like
inventory management, daily transactions, payroll role etc. How ever as the business grew, more functionality needed to be
added to the existing application. This led to continuous slowdown of system performance subsequently raising
maintenance and cost. Also it possessed major hurdle with respect to internet based business.
Solution:
The client decided to migrate from VB6 to .NET framework. The main idea behind the migration was to enhance system
performance and optimize workflow management. Using the advanced functionalities offered by .NET, the client would be
able to provide redefined and high quality business solutions to serve its end users better.
Challenge:
The major challenge faced by the team was migration of the existing system on another framework. The team had to do
considerable work in understanding the existing code in order to optimize the business logic for the existing legacy system.
Also the new system had to be stable enough to handle additional functionalities to that of the existing legacy system.
Working towards the solution:
TPS team was responsible for the complete migration from VB6.0 to VB.NET. The team came up with a well drafted plan to
do a detailed requirement analysis, design, and deployment of the system on the new server.
The new application was built on a customized .NET framework in a three-tier model consisting of the business logic,
presentation, and database. This system provided better scalability without hampering performance.

migration project was carried out by the client and TPS team simultaneously. As the existing system was not to be
disturbed, TPS set up a development server on the client network so that coordination becomes easier and source codes
