1. Proposal
The genre of my magazine is current affairs which is about contemporary events that are
happening in our day to day lives. Therefore, I have decided to use the name ‘TOPICAL TEA’
for my magazine. Reason being is because the word ‘topical’ relates to the word current
which is part of the main theme. This will suggest to the reader that the magazine will
include all the latest news just by looking at the front cover. Moreover, the word ‘tea’ can
be used as a synonym for information or in slang ‘gossip’. It also gives an impression that
this magazine will give every detail and is perfect to read while your drinking your hot
beverage. The alliteration used in the name ‘Topical Tea’ will catch the reader’s attention
and will make it stand out from other magazines. The repetition of ‘T’ creates a rhythm for
the reader which will make them want to read further on. The main strapline for my
magazine is ‘SIT BACK, RELAX AND ENJOY THIS TEA’. The use of the pun on the word ‘tea’
emphasises the point of the magazine which is to provide information about the latest
events. In addition, the strap line also uses a rule of 3 which creates for the reader
satisfaction, emotion and more likely for them to be engaged with the magazine. Also, the
technique commandment is used to persuade and convince the reader to purchase and
read the magazine. To summarise, the strapline is telling the reader that all the virtuous
information is in front of you and all you must do is be comfortable and relish the
information. The main feature of my cover will be about coronavirus as it’s a current global
pandemic. More specifically the main image and issue will be about its effect on football
around the world. The main cover line will be COVID -19 OUT / FOOTBALL IN. This relates to
football as it’s like a substitute, but we want football back on and coronavirus to go. The
additional contents that I will include will be about the NHS, Climate change and sporting
events that were due for this year such as the Euro 2020, Olympics and Wimbledon. My
magazine will have four sections and the contents that will be included are: social,
environmental, health and sporting issues. In the social section it will contain issues such as
bullying, racism, poor urban areas and how low-income parents are having an affect on their
child’s education. The environmental segment will have air pollution, climate change,
biodiversity, recycling and plastic pollution. The health section will consist of issues such as
obesity, mental health, a healthy diet plan and why exercise is so important. The sporting
issues will include several sporting events which has been postponed due to covid-19. These
are Euro 2020, Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Wimbledon, The grand national and the US open. The
target audience of my magazine will be aimed at the category C1 who are lower middle
class, they have jobs such as shop manager, office worker and social worker. This is because
the price of the magazine will be £4 which is an affordable price. The ages targeted will be
between 16 and 30 as its not formal and the graphic elements will include multiple font
types, use of different colours and images. Most of the audience will be mainstreamers,
these are people who have tried and trusted brands that are value for money. They like to
think that they are a part of a larger group of like-minded people and are less likely to take
risks, they seek security. The date the magazine will be published is on the 19/12/20.
