out how to help in any way possible such as help with COVID-19.
5. Proposal
• The genre of my magazine is current affairs which will include information about political and economic current events such as COVID-19, NHS,
predicted grades for the students etc. The publishing company which my magazine will be on will be Dennis. Dennis also publishes magazines such as
fashion magazines, sporting magazines and cooking magazines. My target audience will be both female and male ages 16-64 and for all races that can
speak the English language such as the UK, USA and Canada. It will be for a niche audience. My current affair magazine will be for all groups but
mainly people of groups C1, which are the white-collar workers, B, which are fairly well-paid professionals and A, which are very well-paid
professionals of the socio-economic model. My current affair magazine will be in the cognitive level of the Abraham Maslow hierarchy of needs. This
is because it shows us and makes us understand the world around us. My current magazine will be for mainly mainstreamers, who are concerned with
stability and security and succeeders, who are people who feel secure and in control, generally in position of power. The interests that my target
audience may have will be current events going on around the world such as, is by giving the students their predicted grades fair. Will it affect them in
the future? also interest may include education, music and politics. The class and income will be middle class and working class.
• The price of my current affair magazine will be £3.50 which is fairly cheap and affordable for everyone to buy. My magazine will be published weekly
on a Friday so there’s always something to read about what’s going on in the world around us. The name of my current affair magazine will be either
The Escape or The Insider. The main coverline/feature of my current affair magazine will be COVID-19 as its what is going on around the world right
now which is an extremely serious issue and should be heard about. The additional coverlines will be about the NHS and how they should be given a
pay rise as they are working day in and day out, Boris Johnson-why we need to stay home, climate change, how the coronavirus has affected the
climate change and it will also include pop culture, such as how the coronavirus made all the festivals close which are all current events. My magazine
will have about 10 sections. The contents that will be included in my current affair magazine will be like, COVID-19 Could Infect 1M+ Americans, Why
Are So Many Politicians Testing Positive with COVID-19, Coachella Music Festival Delayed Until October Over Coronavirus, How worried should we be
about coronavirus?, A coronavirus Olympics cancellation would be a disaster for Japan, Can We Believe Any of China’s Coronavirus Numbers?. These
are just some of the contents that will be included in my current affair magazine.
6. Statement of intent
I have chosen to do my current affair magazine about two main events going on in 2020 which are, COVID-19 and the BlackLivesMatter protests, but will also have
relevant information about the education system. This magazine with engage the readers and make them want to indulge into the magazine to educate themselves
about the global pandemic but also the black lives matter protests that are happening right now. These two events are extremely serious matters that should be
spoken about. This magazine will provide many resources and evidence to show the events going on in the UK and will provide further resources and information from
other countries such as the USA, Canada and china.
My target audience will be both male and females aged 16 plus. This is because the information that would be included in this magazine would be highly relevant to
them. This magazine will attract this target audience as COVID-19 attract every young adult and anyone older who are female and male as it could affect them in their
everyday lives, either by affecting themselves or even a family member. The target audience would be getting a high standard and correctly informed views which
would be relevant to them. This current affair magazine will represent niche audiences and social groups. My magazine will interest white collar workers and well-paid
professionals who are in group A-C1. As my magazine will consist of the global pandemic and the black lives matter protest going on it will interest individualists,
succeeders and also reformers who are normally in position of power and can make change for the better and who have responsible ideologies.
To make my magazine appealing to the target audience I will be using bold, distinct san serif font type for both my main cover lines and the masthead. This font type is
clear and uncomplicated to read making it easy for the target audience to understand. The main image with conventionally be placed at the centre of the front cover
which will be at eye level to directly address the reader. The masthead will be conventionally placed at the top of the front cover so the target audience can easily
recognise the magazine. This conventionally placed masthead and main image are also expressed similar in the magazine covers produced by Dennis.
Research has massively impacted my planning of my magazine, such as what contents I should include. I researched the contents of 6 different current affair
magazines an example would be The Time magazine. Using this research, I made a polished list that would intrigue my target audience. After researching 6 main
magazines I found that the average they sell for which was about £4.00 which then I made the price of magazine £3.50 and would be published weekly to inform the
target audience of the current affairs. the research further helped me get an idea on what age, gender, geo-demographics, etc to appeal to. Both my magazine and the
website addition will be in English which will make it suited to any English-speaking country such as Canada, USA, UK etc. The audience's expectations are to use my
website and read my magazine that will inform them on current affairs that will be affecting them in some way.
7. Font types
There are two types of font types:
• Serif- easy to read and looks quite traditional. Usually used in newspapers
• Sans serif- bold, clear and easily understood. Often used for titles, mastheads and straplines.
The serif font is more ornamental and has serifs extending from the ends while the sans serif font on the
left has clean and very precise ends.
The distinct characteristics and history of serif fonts give people a feeling of elegance, confidence, and
trustworthy.
Serifs are also conventionally associated with print newspapers so their use of this font also creates a
sense of formality and credibility.
Sans Serif Fonts Say Modern, Approachable, and Clean.
Sans serif fonts give off a feeling of being casual, informal, friendly, and very approachable. Companies
who want their brands to appear more youthful and relatable tend to use sans serif fonts.
The rounded and clean appearance of their logo and website fonts give people similar feelings of
friendliness and approachability.
By doing my research on both sans serif and serif I have decided I will be using sans serif. This is because
its easier to read and more understandable. It will invite people in to read the magazine as it’s a friendly
approachable font type. I will also be using sans serif as it’s a modern look for the magazine which I will be
going for.
