1. Photoshoot Planning
The first main topic of my magazine cover is about covid-19, which is currently having a
huge impact on our lives. The main coverline is ‘THE NEW NORM’. I have used this because
our lives have altered, and we all must adjust to the new circumstances. I can add other
smaller images of different subjects that the virus is affecting. I will also include the NHS on
the front cover because they have been protagonists and life savers throughout this difficult
time, they are essentially risking their own lives to save others. The second issue of my front
cover is the black lives matter movement. This is a very significant topic that has got more
acknowledgement in the media presently. This topic is creating awareness of how the race
black is treated unfairly in comparison to white. My main coverline ‘Black Lives Matter’ is
simple and short to emphasise the strength and make it stand powerfully. I will not add any
other images to the cover as I want the focus to be on the main point and to emphasise the
importance.
I have used suitable images that link with my coverlines and which convey the current
issues. The first magazine cover about the subject covid-19 has an image of a group of
friends who are wearing masks. This represents how the deadly virus is affecting our social
lives such as wearing masks daily. The image displays how important it is to wear masks for
our own safety as well as others. The second matter about black lives matter has an
influential image of a poster that states, ‘ENOUGH IS ENOUGH’. This image portrays how no
matter what skin you are, everyone is equal and deserves to have a moral life.
The black lives matter is the focus for social media currently. This is a staid issue affecting
black lives, this means I will need to use the correct mise en scene to fit the topic. I believe
the setting that would be suitable is a murky, dim and obscure background. Reason being, is
so the image of the poster is prominent. The location of the shoot will take place outside as I
want the poster to be shown as above everything around us to show the magnitude of the
matter. The next location for my second shoot, which is on the subject coronavirus, will be
in a park to show the social setting. This is because I expect my image to signify that covid-
19 needs to go so we can socialise with others. The setting of the shoot will be dim so the
mood can be communicated from the magazine through to the reader as its unpleasant
socialising while wearing masks.
The camera shot that I would capture will be an establishing shot for the main image of
black lives matter cover. This shot will give the reader information about where the scene is
set. Also, the image will be shot at a low angle, this will make the subject appear powerful
and dominant which will send the message across. This is what accentuates the image and
attracts the reader. Furthermore, the second cover will have a close shot which is used to
show the expressions and emotions of the characters. The camera angle used will be at eye
level therefore the reader and subject appear to be looking directly at each other. This
creates a dramatic effect which draws in the reader.
