1. What do most people want to do in summer? Well, in my case, I entered
the Rise Summer Program. This program was offered for science students who
wanted to get the experience of being a researcher. In the summer, we took
General Biology with the lab. Also, I got the opportunity to meet other talented
students that have the same goals as I do. This summer was unforgettable
because as a freshman, I got a taste of the college life.
I took General Biology before entering the Rise Program, but it does not
compare with the difficulty that college course was. In high school, the
laboratory class I took did not have the same equipment as the college one did.
Although the class was hard, it was interesting and fun too. We made several
field trips to different tropical forest here in Puerto Rico, which took the class out
of the ordinary. Also we presented a proposal, an experience completely new and
interesting for me. This course also helped me develop my writing and oral skills,
since we took different language workshops that practiced our essay writing.
In general, this was a good summer, filled with learning and fun. I got the
opportunity to experience college life, before any one else, and also prepared us
for the upcoming semester. This class gave us a preview of what it meant to be a
research scientist and prepared us for he different course that we will take for
completing our bachelors degree.
