1. The importance of this article is that the Microbacterial tuberculosis has a complex cell wall, which has
not been fully explored. It is composed of glycolipids, lipids and other metabolites. They used metabolic
labeling with unnatural sugars for investigating glycoconjugates. The scientists were able to label
trehalose glycolipid with TreAz enabling bioorthogonal ligation. The metabolic labling with TreAz enables
us to understandthe effect of trehalome on the live mycobacteria in terms of metabolic pathways. This
strategy can be used for an understanding of the glycolipid distribution and the exchange of glycolipids
among mycobacteria. The main goal of this experiment is to know all the elements that form the
membrane of those mycobacteria. That membrane acts as a barrier against antibiotics, and that is what
makes the Mtb so dangerous. They are currently investigating the possibility that TreAz attaches to the
cell wall, which will be helpful for an understanding of the cell wall. These researches are important to
the scientific society because it is the first step to find the cure of tuberculosis, which affects are great
part of the population. The understanding of the cell wall serves as a head start to the cure of
tuberculosis.
