When his father died, my dad was only 13 years old. He died suddenly while working on a scaffold
on a building near some railroad tracks. He was killed instantly from a fall. This situation forced my
dad into quitting school in the eighth grade so he could help support his mother. Even until the day
she died, my dad was faithful in his support to my grandmother, both financially and emotionally.
I remember how pleased Dad was when he got hired on with General Motors. You see, back then it
was quite an accomplishment among blue collar workers to land a job with the big auto maker. Dad

NASW has the full authority to take an action against any social complaint and correct it. Social
workers can risk being sued for malpractice if ethical practice is violated.
The initial code of ethics, accepted by the membership in 1960, emphasized the primary of
profession responsibility over personal interests, the client's right to privacy, obligations for service
during public emergencies and a duty to contribute to the knowledge of the profession.(Ramer,
2008a). The current version has developed by increasing length and proliferations of legal terms.
Now it consists of four sections: preamble, purpose, values and ethical principles, and ethical
standard. as stated in 2008 code of ethics, the mission of the social work profession is to enhance
human well–being and help meet the basic human needs of all people. In addition, social workers
promote social justice and social change with and behalf of clients. These activites maybe in form of
direct practice, community organizing, supervision, consultation, administration, advocacy and so
on.
We can conclude from profession's mission the core value of social work profession: service, social
justice, dignity, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence.
