The document discusses digipak album covers from various electropop artists as examples to draw inspiration from for designing their own digipak. Key points discussed include:
- Featuring the artist prominently on the front cover as they are the main focus.
- Including conventions like the tracklist, barcode, and credits on the back cover to make it look professional.
- Continuing a theme or motif throughout the front and back covers to tie the design together.
- Highlighting the tracklist on the back cover so it stands out against the background.
2. The genre of this album, Electropop, is shown in the front cover of the album with the use of the
bright color scheme of pink and blue. The artist Halsey is also featured on the front cover and is
in the very centre. Her face is covered which could suggest she is well know enough for the
audience to know who she is. We will also feature our artist on the front of our digipak because
they are the main feature and we feel its important to advertise the artist.
The back of this digipak features the same top as the front does. This makes them fit together
well and keeps the same theme all the way through. The rest of the back cover is white with the
tracklist on the back. This makes the digipak really simple and highlights the importance of the
artist on the front. It also features all the classic conventions of a digipak, such as the tracklist,
barcode and production credits. We will need to feature these on the back cover of our digipak
to make sure it looks professional.
3. This is another Electropop digipak. This one is from Years and Years’ album “Communion”. The
front cover of this digipak features a pattern made up of various colours. The centre of the
pattern creates a “Y” shape which represents the artist’s name. Although the pattern is complex
the overall design of this front cover is simple and stands out. We don’t feel a patterned front
cover will suit our front cover and we would like to include an image of the artist.
The back of this digipak carried on the coloured patterns into the tracklist. This makes the
tracklist stand out against the black background. The back cover also features the conventions of
a digipak, such as the tracklist, barcode and credits. We will feature these as well as stick to the
simplicity like this design to make the tracklist stand out and to now overpower the front cover.
4. This is another Electropop digipak from Sia’s Album ‘1000 forms of fear”. The front cover of this
digipak features a wig. This is famously associated with Sia, who hides her face with various wigs
when performing. We will include similar iconography in our digipak but instead of a wig we will
use a bracelet to represent our artist. The background of this is plain black and the album name
is at the bottom. These are also features we may use as the black is simple and will contrast the
image used on the front and the album title will fit around this image.
The back cover of this digipak is again of the wig but no being worn. This shows the icon motif of
the wig is carried throughout the digipak, which will will try and include in ours too with the
bracelet. The tracklist however is very small, and therefore we will change this to make our
tracks stand out more. This back cover also has the conventions of a digipak which we will also
need to feature.
5. 18 Months by Calvin Harris is another example of an Electropop album. The front cover features
the artist Calvin Harris sat down. The use of a photo as the main image works really well on this
cover because its easy to put the title of the album onto it. This is a feature we would like to try
and use to make the cover look as professional as possible. The title of the album , however, is
quite big and we would probably have a smaller title on ours to highlight the artist more.
The back of this album features a similar image to the front but it’s a bit further away. We
probably wouldn’t include this in our digipak because we want to use different images. The
conventions of a digipak are included with the tracklist in the top corner. Our tracklist will
probably be positioned differently.
