1. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and
research, planning and evaluation stages?
2. Websites / online applications
The websites/online applications that were used, were Internet Explorer/ Safari/ Chrome, Mahara, YouTube,
OneDrive, SlideShare, Prezi and Office 365. The different internet browsers were used to access all online
applications used for research and presenting the different steps of our three media products. We used Mahara to
place our research onto our journals so we could refer back to research throughout the creation of the three media
products. OneDrive was used to share files between the members of the group, this allowed us to quickly and
efficiently work on lots of different parts of our media products at once, Office 365 was used for the same thing,
however was often done for more text based file transfer. SlideShare and Prezi were both used to present the
research found by different members of our group, this allowed us to quickly find the suitable information which
correlated with the work we were doing at the time.
3. These pictures show what form of messages were sent using the email system in place, it mainly consisted of
information, pictures and documents that needed to be passed from person to person within the group.
4. Software
The software used to create our three media product were Adobe Photoshop, Adobe illustrator, Garage Band and
Final Cut Pro X. Photoshop was used to make the magazine cover and posters picture sections with the files then
being transported into Illustrator to add any text needed on the two media files. Garage band was used to create
the sound track that went on the teaser trailer for ‘Christmas Cavern’, it was a version of Silent Night that I
manipulated in Garage Band by speeding sections up and adding effects to it. Final Cut Pro was what the editing of
the teaser trailer itself was done on, originally we imported all files from the camera onto the software and then cut
and edited clips to create a conventional horror trailer. All of these different software's were very good at doping
the particular tasks we gave them, however it took time to transport files between different pieces of software
throughout the editing of all the media products, this was the disadvantage of all the different software types.
5. These pictures show how we used
Illustrator and Photoshop to create
our media products. The pictures for
each were edited in Photoshop and
then put into Illustrator, where the
text was added.
6. These screenshots show the process of how the ‘Silent Night’ track was put into Garageband and adapted
upon to create the eerie and quicker version used within our teaser trailer.
7. All computer equipment and devices
The computer equipment and devices used to create our three media product were Apple Mac’s, Sennheiser
headphones, an I-Pad, our mobile phones and our laptops. The Mac’s were used to allow us access to the different
software types, such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Garage Band and Final Cut Pro. The headphones allowed us to listen
to the sound track being created in Garage Band as well allowing us to listen to various sound effects used in our
final cut of ‘Christmas Cavern’. The I-pad, mobile phones and laptops were used to store various pieces of the
three media products that were then put together to create the final products. Each of these pieces of equipment
were good at achieving their individual uses, however due to us using many different pieces of equipment it took us
lots of time to transport files between the devices, this was the disadvantage of using lots of different devices.
8. Digital camera equipment (Canon 80D)
The digital camera equipment (Canon 80D)items used to create our three media product were Manual Focus and
Auto Focus. The manual focus allows the camera user to focus to the desired location and depth, whereas
automatic focus is when the camera decides on the best focus point for the picture or film and adapts on its own.
We used automatic focus throughout the majority of filming of clips and taking pictures, however we used manual
focus for a select few clips that we wanted to blur in and out of focus. This allowed us to create an eerie effect for
the sections of our teaser trailer that needed added atmosphere for the audience. The disadvantage of using
different focus types is that it took time to change between the two focuses and decide what clips would look best
in what focus type. Also filming clips in manual focus took many attempts to do correctly.
