frame provides strength, flexibility, and comfort for a wide variety of head shapes and sizes. Telescoping headband arms smoothly extend and stay in place to maintain the
desired fit. Each ear cup attaches to the headband through a revolutionary mechanism that balances and distributes ear cup pressure, and allows it to independently pivot and
rotate to fit the unique contours of a user’s head. Each ear cushion uses acoustically engineered memory foam to create an effective seal — a critical factor in delivering
immersive sound. The Digital Crown, inspired by Apple Watch, offers precise volume control and the ability to play or pause audio, skip tracks, answer or end phone calls, and
activate Siri. AirPods Max feature a 40-mm Apple-designed dynamic driver that provides rich, deep bass, accurate mid-ranges, and crisp, clean high-frequency extension so
every note can be heard. A unique dual neodymium ring magnet motor allows AirPods Max to maintain total harmonic distortion of less than 1 percent across the entire audible
range, even at maximum volume. Equipped with an Apple-designed H1 chip in each ear cup, a custom acoustic design, and advanced software, AirPods Max use computational
audio to deliver the highest quality listening experience possible. Utilising each of the chips’ 10 audio cores — capable of 9 billion operations per second — computational
audio powers a breakthrough listening experience that includes Adaptive EQ, Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency mode, and spatial audio.

Cardio fitness notifications are available today on Apple (USA) Watch
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com
16
Solution Description
Apple Watch can monitor and classify cardio fitness, a strong predictor of overall health. With iOS 14.3 and watchOS 7.2, Apple Watch users can view their
cardio fitness level in the Health app on iPhone, and receive a notification on Apple Watch if it falls within the low range. Breakthrough technology released
in watchOS 7 allows Apple Watch to easily measure low cardio fitness, and today cardio fitness notifications empower users to be more active for dramatic
long-term health benefits. Cardiorespiratory fitness, as measured by VO2 max, is the maximum amount of oxygen the body can use during exercise, and it
can be increased through physical activity. Apple Watch already estimates average and higher levels of VO2 max during vigorous outdoor walks, runs, or
hikes, which many runners and other athletes monitor to improve performance. Now, with watchOS 7, Apple Watch uses multiple sensors, including the
optical heart sensor, GPS, and the accelerometer, to estimate lower levels, too. This is significant because direct measurement of VO2 max typically requires
a rigorous clinical test with specialised equipment that is not readily accessible to most people. watchOS 7 also allows Apple Watch to take cardio fitness
measurements as users walk throughout the day, whether or not they are tracking a workout. With this innovation, Apple Watch is better able to measure VO2
max for users with low cardio fitness, who may not complete high-intensity workouts. In a 2016 scientific statement, the American Heart Association
recognised a growing link between low cardio fitness and a higher risk of significant health issues, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and obesity,
later in life. Research even suggests cardio fitness is a stronger predictor of mortality risk than common risk factors like smoking, diabetes, and hypertension.

Fujifilm (Japan) develops technology to deliver the world's highest 580TB storage
capacity* for magnetic tapes using strontium ferrite (SrFe) magnetic particles
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com
22
Solution Description
FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Kenji Sukeno) is pleased to announce that it has achieved the world's record 317 Gbpsi recording density with magnetic tapes using a new magnetic
particle called Strontium Ferrite (SrFe)*4. The record was achieved in tape running test, conducted jointly with IBM Research. This represents the development of epoch-making
technology that can produce data cartridges with the capacity of 580TB (terabytes), approximately 50 times greater than the capacity of current cartridges*5. The capacity of 580TB
is enough to store data equivalent to 120,000 DVDs. SrFe is a magnetic material that has very high magnetic properties and is stable to maintain high performance even when processed
into fine particles. It is widely used as a raw material for producing magnets for motors. Fujifilm has applied its proprietary technology to successfully develop ultra-fine SrFe magnetic
particles, which can be used as a magnetic material for producing particulate magnetic tape media for data storage. The company has been conducting R&D for commercial use of SrFe
magnetic particles as potential replacement of Barium Ferrite (BaFe) magnetic particles, currently used in magnetic tape data storage media. Magnetic tapes used in this test have been
produced at the company's existing coating facility, confirming the ability to support mass production and commercialization. The amount of data in the society is exponentially
increasing due to the introduction of high-definition 4K / 8K video, advancement in IoT / ICT, and the proliferation of Big Data analysis. “Cold Data,” or data that was generated a
long time ago and rarely accessed, is said to account for over 80% of all data available. There is a fast-growing trend of utilizing such Cold Data and other accumulated data, creating
the need to secure safe, affordable and long-term data storage. Magnetic tapes have been used by major data centers and research organizations for many years as they not only offer
benefits including large storage capacity, low cost and long-term storage performance, but also create air gap data protection, physically isolated from the network, thereby minimizing
the risk of data damage or loss caused by cyberattacks. In the future, magnetic tapes are expected to be used in cutting edge research fields involving large-scale data generation, such
as the use of hybrid cloud environment*6 for efficiently managing massive data, smart-manufacturing for high-quality and high-efficiency production, and connected vehicles with
internet connectivity.

Solution Description
FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Kenji Sukeno) is pleased to announce that it has filed an application with the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency to
obtain manufacturing and marketing approval for a rapid and simple antigen test kit for detecting SARS-CoV-2, using silver amplification immunochromatography
method*, as in-vitro diagnostic medical device. This kit has been developed with the use of highly-sensitive detection technology based on silver halide
amplification response used in the photo-developing process. In a bid to establish a production structure for this test kit, Fujifilm is making a capital investment in
FUJIFILM YUWA MEDICAL PRODUCTS VIETNAM COMPANY LIMITED which manufactures Fujifilm's diagnostics medical products. The investment has
been chosen for the third round of a business support program by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) for diversifying overseas supply chains. Antigen
tests can be carried out quickly and produce results on the spot. Despite these advantages, antigen tests have lower sensitivity than PCR tests and there are growing
needs for the improvement of their sensitivity. From their advantages, antigen tests are now being considered globally for use not only at hospitals but also at
airports, event venues and other premises as economic activities begin to resume. This has created the need for ensuring stable supply of antigen test kits. From
October this year, Fujifilm and the Public University Corporation Yokohama City University (Kanagawa, Japan) jointly develop the rapid and simple antigen test
kit for SARS-CoV-2 using silver amplification immunochromatography method, which is Fujifilm's proprietary highly-sensitive detection technology. The test kit
is due to be produced at Fujifilm's Ashigara Site in the Kanagawa Factory. However, in anticipation for the product's global deployment in the future, FUJIFILM
YUWA in Vietnam will start gradually reinforcing its production facilities next year to ensure supply stability for the test kit.

KLA Introduces Two New Systems that Take On Semiconductor
Manufacturing's Toughest Problems
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com
25
Solution Description
KLA Corporation announced two new products: the PWG5™ wafer geometry system and the Surfscan® SP7XP wafer defect inspection system. The new systems are designed to
address exceedingly difficult issues in the manufacture of leading-edge memory and logic integrated circuits. Stacked ever higher, like molecular skyscrapers, the most capable flash
memory is built in an architecture called 3D NAND. Today's 96-layer top-of-the line memory chips, already on the market in the most advanced mobile devices, will soon be
superseded by 3D NAND structures with 128 or more layers in the ongoing quest for increased space-efficiency and cost-effectiveness. To manufacture these complex structures
requires depositing hundreds of thin films of multiple materials, and then creating memory cells by etching and filling holes several microns deep and one-hundredth of a micron across.
As these film stacks grow higher, they induce stress on the wafer, ultimately distorting the surface planarity of the wafer. These warped wafers impact the uniformity of downstream
processes and patterning integrity, ultimately affecting final device performance and yield. The PWG5 metrology system can measure minute distortions of wafer geometry with
unprecedented resolution to identify and correct patterned wafer distortion at the source. Moreover, these critical wafer geometry measurements can now be accomplished for large
warp ranges at inline speeds. On the leading-edge logic side of the semiconductor industry, high volume manufacturing of 5nm node devices is rising while the 3nm node is under
development.* EUV lithography has become nearly universal for the most critical layers within these nodes, and device manufacturing is further complicated by novel geometries like
finFET or gate all around (GAA) transistor architectures. Patterning such small, complex features in a repeatable way, billions of times across a wafer, requires exquisite defectivity
control, including use of unpatterned wafer inspectors for careful qualification of starting substrates and materials, and frequent monitoring of processes and tools. The new Surfscan
SP7XP unpatterned wafer defect inspection system features advancements to sensitivity and throughput, and introduces machine learning-based defect classification that together
enable capture and identification of an even wider range of defect types on an even wider range of blanket films and substrate types than the benchmark Surfscan SP7.

Lenovo (Hong Kong) Introduces Zero-Touch Enrollment on Lenovo
Chrome OS Devices

Solution Description
Lenovo announced its latest offering to support remote workers: zero-touch enrollment is now available on Lenovo
Chrome OS devices. As organizations help employees adapt to new “work-from-anywhere” models, many IT teams are
learning just how prepared (or unprepared) they are for the transition. With entire workforces now offsite, IT must
confront getting the right devices to employees while securing endpoints, surfacing new cloud-based tools, managing
overburdened help desks and more. In the past, IT administrators had to manually enroll each Chrome OS device into their
domain, requiring manual IT efforts. With zero-touch enrollment, the device drop-ships pre-registered and ready for use
by the end user with all the organization’s security policies, applications and profiles. This eliminates the need for manual
device enrollment. Zero-touch enrollment is built with security in mind as hardware-backed attestation helps secure device
identity to prevent spoofing attacks. This offering goes live on the ThinkPad C13 Yoga Chromebook starting December
15 and will expand to other Lenovo Chrome OS devices throughout 2021.

LG Display (South Korea) introduces world's first 48-inch Bendable
Cinematic Sound OLED display
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com
29
Solution Description
LG Display, the world’s leading innovator of display technologies, announced that it will showcase the world's first 48-inch Bendable Cinematic Sound
OLED (CSO) optimized for gaming at CES 2021. The 48-inch Bendable CSO display utilizes OLED’s advantages as its paper-thin screen bends and unfolds
with a curvature radius of up to 1,000R, meaning that it can be made to bend up to a radius of 1,000mm without affecting the function of the display. It can
therefore be turned into a flat screen while watching TV and used as a curved screen while gaming. The curved display offers a uniform viewing distance
from the middle of the screen to its edge, maximizing the visual immersion that is popular among gamers. In addition, the company’s CSO technology
enables OLED displays to vibrate and make their own sound without the use of any speakers, offering a vivid sense of reality as if the on-screen characters
were talking directly to the viewer. The 48-inch Bendable CSO display’s ultra slim film exciter, which is the part that vibrates the display, has been reduced
to a thickness of just 0.6mm from 9mm and therefore allows viewers to enjoy a thinner screen as well as highly impressive sound. OLED technology has
recently been gaining attention in the gaming TV market for its superiority, as each pixel emits its own light, offering an infinite contrast ratio. This creates
another level of vivid picture quality, along with the seamless experience delivered by a response time of 0.1 milliseconds (ms), a refresh rate of 120Hz per
second, and a wide variable refresh rate range from 40Hz to 120Hz. Moreover, for gamers who view screens for an extended period of time, LG Display’s
OLED displays are particularly suitable because they are known for their eye comfort. They have been recognized and certified by leading global certification
organizations as emitting low levels of blue light and being flicker-free.

NEC (Japan) develops laser communications terminals for JAXA's Laser
Utilizing Communication System, "LUCAS"
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com
37
Solution Description
NEC Corporation announced the development of laser communications terminals (LCTs) for satellites that use laser light to deliver broadband data transmission in outer space. This terminal
has been provided for the Laser Utilizing Communication System (LUCAS) being coordinated by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) (*1). Two types of LCT were developed,
featuring one for geostationary (GEO) satellites and the others for low earth orbiting (LEO) observation satellites. In order to commercialize ultra-long-haul laser communications over a
distance of 40,000km between GEO and LEO satellites, NEC developed technologies for stably amplifying low-output semiconductor laser light (wavelength@1.5μm) to high output under
a vacuum environment, which is ideal for use in submarine cables and LANs, as well as technologies for locating and tracking moving communication partner satellites with high accuracy,
and technologies for re-generating broadband signals from very weak light. In particular, LCTs have been designed to withstand severe vibrations, shocks and radiation - both during launch
and while in orbit - and have been designed to dissipate heat generated by laser oscillation adequately. As a result, the newly developed LCT has a transmission rate of 1.8Gbps between
satellites, which is more than seven times faster than existing equipment. NEC's LCT for GEO satellites (*2) is boarded on the optical data relay satellite that JAXAlaunched from Tanegashima
Space Center on November 29, 2020. Moreover, NEC's LCTs for LEO satellites (*3) will be boarded on JAXA's Advanced Land-Observing Satellites, the 3rd DAICHI-3 (ALOS-3) and 4th
DAICHI-4 (ALOS-4), which will be launched in the future, when broadband laser communications will be demonstrated and utilized with LUCAS. LEO satellites directly transmit data to
ground stations. Until now, satellites have only been able to transmit to the Earth's surface for approximately 10 minutes during each orbit. A mechanism has been constructed to send data
from LEO satellites to ground stations via data relay satellites in GEO, enabling data transmission to be maintained for approximately half of the time for one orbit around the Earth (about 90
minutes), ensuring data transmission time of more than four times (more than 40 minutes) that of the direct transmit system. Conventional data relay satellites that use radio waves have a
transmission speed of 240Mbps, even when a few meters in diameter antenna is mounted on a satellite. The LCT has a very small antenna diameter of 14cm, which is about 1/30 that of
conventional systems, and the transmission rate between satellites has been increased to 1.8Gbps, 7 times faster than conventional data relay systems.

Qualcomm (USA) Showcases Leading Performance on New Flagship
Snapdragon 888 5G Mobile Platform
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com
44
Solution Description
Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. demonstrated leading performance on the new flagship Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 888 5G Mobile Platform through a series of synthetic industry benchmark
tests. Snapdragon 888 packs industry-leading mobile innovations in 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), gaming, and camera technologies that will transform premium mobile devices coming in
early 2021. Snapdragon 888 Performance: Snapdragon 888 packs in major architectural advances. It is manufactured using the most advanced 5nm process technology, allowing breakthrough
performance and superior power efficiency. The Qualcomm® Kryo™ 680 generates up to a 25% uplift in overall CPU performance compared to the previous generation and allows top
frequencies of up to 2.84GHz. It is also the first commercial CPU subsystem to be based on the Arm Cortex-X1. The Qualcomm® Adreno™ 660 GPU achieves its biggest performance leap
yet, delivering up to 35% faster graphics rendering compared to the previous generation. To address feedback from OEMs, Adreno 660 GPU was specifically designed to allow for flexibility
and higher power in gaming phones with a larger thermal envelope or sustained use cases in flagship devices. Each OEM can choose to select the optimal operating point for their design. The
completely re-designed 6th generation Qualcomm® AI Engine with the new Qualcomm® Hexagon™ 780 processor delivers a combined 26 TOPS, a 73% increase versus previous generation
that results in industry-leading AI inferencing performances while also improving in power efficiency up to three times versus previous generation. Benchmarking Methodology: Qualcomm
Technologies’ long-standing perspective on synthetic benchmarks results is that they only measure a subset of use cases and fail to capture the wide array of experiences enabled by
Snapdragon, including connectivity, photography, videography, audio, battery life and charging speeds, and more. Due to the current environment, third party device reviewers were unable to
have hands-on access to the latest premium tier Snapdragon reference design. Therefore, Qualcomm Technologies has collated the results across select industry benchmarks testing system,
CPU, GPU and AI use cases, and put together a short video to detail the process. Each benchmark was run on a Snapdragon 888 reference design and the subsequent scores are the average
result across three iterations. All benchmarks were run using default settings on the Snapdragon 888 reference design, which is recommended to deliver the best balance between performance
and power consumption for user’s typical day-to-day use.

  • 22. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nib Solution Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Cardio fitness notifications are available today on Apple (USA) Watch For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 16 Solution Description Apple Watch can monitor and classify cardio fitness, a strong predictor of overall health. With iOS 14.3 and watchOS 7.2, Apple Watch users can view their cardio fitness level in the Health app on iPhone, and receive a notification on Apple Watch if it falls within the low range. Breakthrough technology released in watchOS 7 allows Apple Watch to easily measure low cardio fitness, and today cardio fitness notifications empower users to be more active for dramatic long-term health benefits. Cardiorespiratory fitness, as measured by VO2 max, is the maximum amount of oxygen the body can use during exercise, and it can be increased through physical activity. Apple Watch already estimates average and higher levels of VO2 max during vigorous outdoor walks, runs, or hikes, which many runners and other athletes monitor to improve performance. Now, with watchOS 7, Apple Watch uses multiple sensors, including the optical heart sensor, GPS, and the accelerometer, to estimate lower levels, too. This is significant because direct measurement of VO2 max typically requires a rigorous clinical test with specialised equipment that is not readily accessible to most people. watchOS 7 also allows Apple Watch to take cardio fitness measurements as users walk throughout the day, whether or not they are tracking a workout. With this innovation, Apple Watch is better able to measure VO2 max for users with low cardio fitness, who may not complete high-intensity workouts. In a 2016 scientific statement, the American Heart Association recognised a growing link between low cardio fitness and a higher risk of significant health issues, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and obesity, later in life. Research even suggests cardio fitness is a stronger predictor of mortality risk than common risk factors like smoking, diabetes, and hypertension.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nib Solution Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Fujifilm (Japan) develops technology to deliver the world's highest 580TB storage capacity* for magnetic tapes using strontium ferrite (SrFe) magnetic particles For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 22 Solution Description FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Kenji Sukeno) is pleased to announce that it has achieved the world's record 317 Gbpsi recording density with magnetic tapes using a new magnetic particle called Strontium Ferrite (SrFe)*4. The record was achieved in tape running test, conducted jointly with IBM Research. This represents the development of epoch-making technology that can produce data cartridges with the capacity of 580TB (terabytes), approximately 50 times greater than the capacity of current cartridges*5. The capacity of 580TB is enough to store data equivalent to 120,000 DVDs. SrFe is a magnetic material that has very high magnetic properties and is stable to maintain high performance even when processed into fine particles. It is widely used as a raw material for producing magnets for motors. Fujifilm has applied its proprietary technology to successfully develop ultra-fine SrFe magnetic particles, which can be used as a magnetic material for producing particulate magnetic tape media for data storage. The company has been conducting R&D for commercial use of SrFe magnetic particles as potential replacement of Barium Ferrite (BaFe) magnetic particles, currently used in magnetic tape data storage media. Magnetic tapes used in this test have been produced at the company's existing coating facility, confirming the ability to support mass production and commercialization. The amount of data in the society is exponentially increasing due to the introduction of high-definition 4K / 8K video, advancement in IoT / ICT, and the proliferation of Big Data analysis. “Cold Data,” or data that was generated a long time ago and rarely accessed, is said to account for over 80% of all data available. There is a fast-growing trend of utilizing such Cold Data and other accumulated data, creating the need to secure safe, affordable and long-term data storage. Magnetic tapes have been used by major data centers and research organizations for many years as they not only offer benefits including large storage capacity, low cost and long-term storage performance, but also create air gap data protection, physically isolated from the network, thereby minimizing the risk of data damage or loss caused by cyberattacks. In the future, magnetic tapes are expected to be used in cutting edge research fields involving large-scale data generation, such as the use of hybrid cloud environment*6 for efficiently managing massive data, smart-manufacturing for high-quality and high-efficiency production, and connected vehicles with internet connectivity.

This kit has been developed with the use of highly-sensitive detection technology based on silver halide amplification response used in the photo-developing process. In a bid to establish a production structure for this test kit, Fujifilm is making a capital investment in FUJIFILM YUWA MEDICAL PRODUCTS VIETNAM COMPANY LIMITED which manufactures Fujifilm's diagnostics medical products. The investment has been chosen for the third round of a business support program by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) for diversifying overseas supply chains. Antigen tests can be carried out quickly and produce results on the spot. Despite these advantages, antigen tests have lower sensitivity than PCR tests and there are growing needs for the improvement of their sensitivity. From their advantages, antigen tests are now being considered globally for use not only at hospitals but also at airports, event venues and other premises as economic activities begin to resume. This has created the need for ensuring stable supply of antigen test kits. From October this year, Fujifilm and the Public University Corporation Yokohama City University (Kanagawa, Japan) jointly develop the rapid and simple antigen test kit for SARS-CoV-2 using silver amplification immunochromatography method, which is Fujifilm's proprietary highly-sensitive detection technology. The test kit is due to be produced at Fujifilm's Ashigara Site in the Kanagawa Factory. However, in anticipation for the product's global deployment in the future, FUJIFILM YUWA in Vietnam will start gradually reinforcing its production facilities next year to ensure supply stability for the test kit.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nib Solution Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable KLA Introduces Two New Systems that Take On Semiconductor Manufacturing's Toughest Problems For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 25 Solution Description KLA Corporation announced two new products: the PWG5™ wafer geometry system and the Surfscan® SP7XP wafer defect inspection system. The new systems are designed to address exceedingly difficult issues in the manufacture of leading-edge memory and logic integrated circuits. Stacked ever higher, like molecular skyscrapers, the most capable flash memory is built in an architecture called 3D NAND. Today's 96-layer top-of-the line memory chips, already on the market in the most advanced mobile devices, will soon be superseded by 3D NAND structures with 128 or more layers in the ongoing quest for increased space-efficiency and cost-effectiveness. To manufacture these complex structures requires depositing hundreds of thin films of multiple materials, and then creating memory cells by etching and filling holes several microns deep and one-hundredth of a micron across. As these film stacks grow higher, they induce stress on the wafer, ultimately distorting the surface planarity of the wafer. These warped wafers impact the uniformity of downstream processes and patterning integrity, ultimately affecting final device performance and yield. The PWG5 metrology system can measure minute distortions of wafer geometry with unprecedented resolution to identify and correct patterned wafer distortion at the source. Moreover, these critical wafer geometry measurements can now be accomplished for large warp ranges at inline speeds. On the leading-edge logic side of the semiconductor industry, high volume manufacturing of 5nm node devices is rising while the 3nm node is under development.* EUV lithography has become nearly universal for the most critical layers within these nodes, and device manufacturing is further complicated by novel geometries like finFET or gate all around (GAA) transistor architectures. Patterning such small, complex features in a repeatable way, billions of times across a wafer, requires exquisite defectivity control, including use of unpatterned wafer inspectors for careful qualification of starting substrates and materials, and frequent monitoring of processes and tools. The new Surfscan SP7XP unpatterned wafer defect inspection system features advancements to sensitivity and throughput, and introduces machine learning-based defect classification that together enable capture and identification of an even wider range of defect types on an even wider range of blanket films and substrate types than the benchmark Surfscan SP7.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nib Solution Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable NEC (Japan) develops laser communications terminals for JAXA's Laser Utilizing Communication System, "LUCAS" For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 37 Solution Description NEC Corporation announced the development of laser communications terminals (LCTs) for satellites that use laser light to deliver broadband data transmission in outer space. This terminal has been provided for the Laser Utilizing Communication System (LUCAS) being coordinated by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) (*1). Two types of LCT were developed, featuring one for geostationary (GEO) satellites and the others for low earth orbiting (LEO) observation satellites. In order to commercialize ultra-long-haul laser communications over a distance of 40,000km between GEO and LEO satellites, NEC developed technologies for stably amplifying low-output semiconductor laser light (wavelength@1.5μm) to high output under a vacuum environment, which is ideal for use in submarine cables and LANs, as well as technologies for locating and tracking moving communication partner satellites with high accuracy, and technologies for re-generating broadband signals from very weak light. In particular, LCTs have been designed to withstand severe vibrations, shocks and radiation - both during launch and while in orbit - and have been designed to dissipate heat generated by laser oscillation adequately. As a result, the newly developed LCT has a transmission rate of 1.8Gbps between satellites, which is more than seven times faster than existing equipment. NEC's LCT for GEO satellites (*2) is boarded on the optical data relay satellite that JAXAlaunched from Tanegashima Space Center on November 29, 2020. Moreover, NEC's LCTs for LEO satellites (*3) will be boarded on JAXA's Advanced Land-Observing Satellites, the 3rd DAICHI-3 (ALOS-3) and 4th DAICHI-4 (ALOS-4), which will be launched in the future, when broadband laser communications will be demonstrated and utilized with LUCAS. LEO satellites directly transmit data to ground stations. Until now, satellites have only been able to transmit to the Earth's surface for approximately 10 minutes during each orbit. A mechanism has been constructed to send data from LEO satellites to ground stations via data relay satellites in GEO, enabling data transmission to be maintained for approximately half of the time for one orbit around the Earth (about 90 minutes), ensuring data transmission time of more than four times (more than 40 minutes) that of the direct transmit system. Conventional data relay satellites that use radio waves have a transmission speed of 240Mbps, even when a few meters in diameter antenna is mounted on a satellite. The LCT has a very small antenna diameter of 14cm, which is about 1/30 that of conventional systems, and the transmission rate between satellites has been increased to 1.8Gbps, 7 times faster than conventional data relay systems.
