Nissan (Japan) launches brain function development program to enhance
racing driver performance
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com

Solution Description
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. launched an innovative program focused on brain function and anatomy research, training and development for its Formula E drivers Sebastien Buemi and
Oliver Rowland. The program, called Nissan Brain to Performance, uses advanced brain imaging and analysis to determine the anatomical specifics of high performance, professional
drivers. The program aims to develop bespoke, optimized training to enhance the brain functions and anatomy related to driving and racing. The program will be coordinated by Lucian
Gheorghe, a leader in the field of brain analysis and training, and a driving force behind Nissan’s forward-looking research on how to better build the connection between people and
Nissan vehicles. The immediate priority of the Nissan Brain to Performance program is to enhance the performance of Nissan’s Formula E racers. The first stage of the new program
will involve detailed analysis and testing of the Formula E racers’ brain functions, compared against a control group of ‘average’, non-racing drivers. All drivers will perform a range
of tasks on state-of-the-art driving simulators while their brain activity is monitored and recorded. Based on the results, a bespoke driver training program involving electrical brain
stimulation will be developed with the aim of improving driver performance. Key research area overview:
• Understanding how Nissan Formula E drivers’brain functions and anatomy differ in comparison to average drivers:- By establishing a spectrum of driver brain activity, the program
will provide a clear understanding of the impact of electrical brain stimulation.
• Through the use of electrical brain stimulation, can a professional driver’s brain be enhanced to improve on-track performance:- Once existing brain activity is known, a bespoke
driver training program of electrical brain stimulation can be initiated, monitored, and reported.
• Can brain computer interface training be used to enhance general driving skills, with a longer-term goal to inform and enhance future Nissan EV product development, with a focus
on achieving the highest level of driver excitement and focus:- Recommendations to be made around the intuitive nature of future EV product development, based on an increased
understanding of bio-electricity to further enhance the driving experience.

Sumitomo Electric (Japan) Develops AirEB™, Multi-fiber Connector with Expanded
Beam That Delivers Cost Advantages to the Massive Fiber Optic Network Operators
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com
8
Solution Description
Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. has developed AirEB™, a multi-fiber connector with an expanded beam that has optical performance tolerant to the contamination on the connector mating
faces that contributes to cost reduction for massive fiber optic network operators. Sumitomo Electric’s innovative technologies on fiber optic and precision molding enable AirEB™ to stay
good in performance even in a harsh environment or less maintenance circumstance, nevertheless, the productivity and the accessibility of AirEB™ requires little effort. This is good news
also for a massive fiber optic network operator who has to bear an enormous cost for the cleaning of millions of connectors in their facilities. AirEB™ has a lens structure at the end face of
the connector, which expands the optical beam to be tolerant of foreign dust particles and keeps optical performance good with less frequent cleaning, or even without cleaning. Advantages
of the AirEB™:
• No need of the frequent cleaning, cleaning with ease.
• An expanded beam can be tolerant of the contaminations on the end face.
• A small gap between mated lenses prevent the particles from sticking to the end face.
• Mass production friendly
• Polish process required for a conventional MPO is not needed.
• All optics in a straight path can make the alignment easy.
• No special equipment is required for production.
• Easy material management.
• Simplex design, no gender, no conventional guide pins.

Solution Description
Maruti Suzuki India Limited announced the launch of the Mobility Challenge to explore new-age technologies and help growth-stage startups scale up their
business. The all new unique programme was unveiled in partnership with Hyderabad-based innovation intermediary and business incubator T-Hub. Startups from
Series A to unicorns from India and overseas are invited for this challenge and will be expected to showcase their cutting-edge technology solutions in the mobility
space. Through Mobility Challenge, MSIL is eager to partner with startups, including established players that have a ready product/solution with an existing
customer base. Disruptive solutions, coupled with the capability to scale up fast, would play a vital role in the Mobility Challenge. Earlier in January 2019, MSIL
had launched their unique MAIL (Mobility & Automobile Innovation Lab) programme in partnership with GHV Accelerator to accelerate the growth of the
budding startups. While MAIL is an existing initiative, Mobility Challenge is another all new programme targeted exclusively at mature or growth-stage startups.
Both the programmes will continue at a defined periodicity and strengthen the common purpose of driving innovations for business efficiencies. The programme
will select mature startups who have technology in digital, data and AI/ML(Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning) in the fields of augmented and virtual
reality, autonomous mobility, automotive remote diagnostics, automotive servicing efficiency, big data analytics, electrification, internet-of-things,
mobility-as-a-service and smart infrastructure. The selected mature startups in the Mobility Challenge will receive support and mentoring from experts at Maruti
Suzuki and T-Hub. This includes domain knowledge, investor connect and test bed. This would help to further galvanize the startups and execute the POC (Proof
of Concept) for its growth. The company will identify two winners towards the end and award them a cash prize of Rs 10 lakhs each.

General Motors (USA) to Source U.S.-Based Lithium for Next-Generation EV
Batteries through Closed-Loop Process with Low Carbon Emissions
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com

General Motors has agreed to form a strategic investment and commercial collaboration with Controlled Thermal Resources to secure local and
low-cost lithium. This lithium will be produced through a closed-loop, direct extraction process that results in a smaller physical footprint, no
production tailing and lower carbon dioxide emissions when compared to traditional processes like pit mining or evaporation ponds. Lithium is a
metal crucial to GM's plans to make more affordable, higher mileage electric vehicles. The relationship between GM and CTR is expected to
accelerate the adoption of lithium extraction methods that cause less impact to the environment. A significant amount of GM's future battery-grade
lithium hydroxide and carbonate could come from CTR's Hell's Kitchen Lithium and Power development in the Salton Sea Geothermal Field,
located in Imperial, California. With the help of GM's investment, CTR's closed-loop, direct extraction process will recover lithium from
geothermal brine. As an anticipated part of its $35 billion global commitment to EVs and autonomous vehicles, GM will be the first company to
make a multi-million dollar investment in CTR's Hell's Kitchen project. As the first investor, GM will have first rights on lithium produced by the
first stage of the Hell's Kitchen project, including an option for a multi-year relationship. Batteries are and will remain one of the largest cost
drivers of EVs. Lithium is a key battery material used in the cathodes and electrolytes of GM EVs like the Chevrolet Bolt EV and Bolt EUV.
Lithium will become even more important in battery use as GM explores lithium metal batteries with a protected anode.

Hyundai Motor Group and Grab Holdings Inc. announced an enhancement of their ongoing strategic partnership in mobility services. The next phase of the
partnership will focus on accelerating EV adoption in Southeast Asia. The Group, including Hyundai Motor Company and KIA Corporation which are the
Group’s affiliates, and Grab will further develop new pilots and initiatives that lower the barriers of entry for Grab driver and delivery-partners to adopt EVs,
such as lowering the total cost of ownership and reducing range anxiety. Survey results from initial EV pilot in Singapore found that high costs, lack of
charging locations and long waiting times for charging are top barriers hindering Grab driver-partners from adopting EVs [1]. Hence, the enhanced
partnership will focus on addressing some of these barriers by piloting new EV business models such as leasing EVs with a battery-as-a-service model or
car-as-a-service model, and EV financing. Both parties will also develop a joint EV roadmap to accelerate adoption in Southeast Asia. The pilot programs
will start in 2021, beginning in Singapore, and expand to Indonesia and Vietnam. As part of the roadmap development, the two parties will also conduct an
EV feasibility study. The intent is to gain a deeper understanding into the gaps and barriers to wider EV ownership and adoption, then translating the findings
from the study into practical ways to further develop the EV ecosystem. These insights will provide governments and ecosystem partners with ideas and best
practices on how EV policies can be shaped to better address the day-to-day operational routines of ride-hailing drivers and delivery-partners. This comes at
a critical time as last-mile logistics and deliveries continue to experience unprecedented growth, and EVs can play a huge role in reducing carbon emissions

Valeo and Navya have decided to step up their technological and industrial collaboration in the field of autonomous shuttles. The Navya shuttles (180 units sold as
at December 31, 2020) which are operated worldwide are already equipped with Valeo technologies. The aim is to ramp up the Research and Development program
to build level 4 autonomous driving systems that can be brought to market within the next three years. Valeo will provide Navya with the sensors and associated
algorithms that will enable the vehicle to closely perceive its surroundings, and Navya will share the technical and functional data collected during
experimentations. At the end of this phase, Valeo will manufacture and supply the selected components, so that they can be integrated in the autonomous driving
solutions marketed by Navya. From a technological perspective, the collaboration will focus in particular on the following components: cameras, artificial
intelligence softwares and electronic control units (ECUs). In terms of driving assistance (ADAS), Valeo has the most extensive portfolio of technologies on the
market, all of which are manufactured on a large scale. They include ultrasonic sensors, cameras, radars and the first 3D LiDAR to enter series production and meet
the demanding specifications of the automotive industry. Valeo also provides the brain of the technology – the control unit – which combines and processes the
data collected. The control unit maps out a detailed 360° image of the vehicle’s surroundings and uses algorithms to detect objects and provide safety functions.
This technological, industrial and commercial partnership builds on the longstanding cooperation agreements between the two companies, particularly those
concerning the sensors used on the Autonom® Shuttle. The applications resulting from the first phase of development are expected in the third quarter of 2022.

Volkswagen Group and Gotion High-Tech Co., Ltd. deepen their partnership. Based on a substantial shareholding agreement in May 2020, the Wolfsburg-based
automobile company entered a strategic cooperation framework with the major Chinese battery producer headquartered at Hefei. The goals of both partners are to
industrialize the planned battery cell production at the Salzgitter site of Volkswagen Group Components and to develop first use cases of the Volkswagen unified
cell concept for the volume segment. Both projects are part of the overarching plan of Volkswagen Group ‒ outlined at the Power Day event in March ‒ to
significantly reduce battery complexity and costs while boosting range and charging performance in order to make the electric car still more attractive. Both sides
will team up for fast cell industrialization at the Volkswagen-owned Salzgitter plant with Gotion High-Tech acting as technology partner for the cell factory layout,
machinery, and production processes. In addition, Volkswagen (China) Investment Company Ltd. (VCIC) and Hefei Gotion High-Tech Power Energy Co., Ltd.
agreed that Gotion High-Tech will develop the first generation of unified cells for the volume segment. The new activities will not affect ongoing contracts with
other battery suppliers. While the Salzgitter traditional engine plant is consequently transforming, a new battery production cell hub will be built up in partnership
with Gotion High-Tech. At the site, a Group-wide Center of Excellence Battery Cell with extensive cell laboratories, a pilot line for cell production, and a pilot
plant for battery recycling are the solid foundation for the imminent construction of the cell factory with scheduled start of production in 2025. In Europe alone,
Volkswagen Group will establish six gigafactories with a total production capacity of 240 GWh together with partners ‒ in order to secure battery cell supply and
achieve large economies of scale implementing the unified cell concept as well as numerous production innovations.

Toyota (Japan) Material Handling Europe moves towards net-zero future
with 100% renewable electricity

Toyota Material Handling Europe has confirmed that it uses 100% renewable electricity in its European operations as of April 1
2021. The switch involves every single one of the organisation's European entities and represents a significant advancement
towards its ambitious sustainability goals. On its own, it achieves 15% of the required progress towards the 2030 target of net zero
emissions from operations. Mjölby, Sweden (June 3, 2021) - Toyota Material Handling Europe has announced that all its
operations across Europe now source 100% of their electricity renewably, with no associated CO2 emissions. This transition was
finalised as of April 1 2021, but is the result of continuous efforts since 2018, since when Toyota Material Handling Europe has
steadily grown its proportion of electricity that comes from renewable sources. It covers all entities and locations: five factories,
21 national sales companies, three head office facilities in Sweden, and several warehouses. This is the single highest-impact
project Toyota Material Handling Europe has completed on its road to net zero emissions so far. When it started tracking
sustainability data in 2012, it calculated that CO2 emissions from electricity represented 15% of its total emissions.

Bridgestone Corporation (Bridgestone) announced that it has switched all the electricity sourced from external sources to renewable energy
including hydro, geothermal, solar, and wind energy to power four domestic tire plants in Japan - in Hikone, Tosu, Shimonoseki, and
Kitakyushu. The first plant to adopt renewable energy to power manufacturing operations was the Hikone Plant, on June 1. The other three
plants made the change on July 1, 2021. This change of energy source is expected to reduce approximately 11 points in annual CO2 emissions
produced by Bridgestone domestic tire plants, and the total reductions of CO2 emission including initiatives done by 2020 will be
approximately 30% when compared to 2011. The ratio of renewable electricity at domestic tire plants will be increased to approximately
42%*2. Bridgestone will continue to reduce CO2 emissions by expanding renewable energy use, improving tire production energy efficiency,
and installing new solar power generation systems in all the domestic tire factories through 2030. Bridgestone Group is moving ahead with
Sustainability Business Framework through the implementation of its Mid Term Business Plan (2021 - 2023)*3 that aims to realize its vision
to provide social value and customer value as a sustainable solutions company toward 2050. The Sustainability Business Framework is

Volkswagen Group (Germany) continues switch to low-emission logistics with
LNG ships
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com

Volkswagen is the first automaker to transport most of its new vehicles overseas using low-emission LNG ships. After the first two LNG car
carriers entered service in 2020, Volkswagen Group Logistics has now ordered four more ships with dual-fuel engines that can be powered with
environmentally friendly liquid gas. They should be traveling the world’s oceans by the end of 2023, serving the North American route between
Emden in Germany and Veracruz in Mexico. On the return trip, the LNG ships will transport new vehicles destined for Europe. Soon, six of the
nine car carriers crossing the North Atlantic for Volkswagen will be powered by LNG. The further decarbonization of shipping will result in
substantial CO2 reductions, with the use of liquid gas enabling Volkswagen to cut the ships’ CO2 emissions by up to 25 percent (tank-to-wake).
“In line with the Group’s commitment to e-mobility and climate-neutral production, the LNG fleet used by Logistics represents a major
contribution to making Volkswagen net carbon neutral by 2050,” says Simon Motter, Head of Volkswagen Group Logistics. Volkswagen was one
of the first car manufacturers to subscribe to the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement that aim to limit global warming to significantly less than
two degrees by 2050. The Volkswagen Group has therefore committed to e-mobility as well as to the sustainable production and use of new electric
vehicles. The company follows the principle of focusing first on the avoidance of CO2 emissions and then on reducing emissions as far as possible.
Only unavoidable emissions are offset by climate protection measures.

AirEB™ has a lens structure at the end face of the connector, which expands the optical beam to be tolerant of foreign dust particles and keeps optical performance good with less frequent cleaning, or even without cleaning. Advantages of the AirEB™: • No need of the frequent cleaning, cleaning with ease. • An expanded beam can be tolerant of the contaminations on the end face. • A small gap between mated lenses prevent the particles from sticking to the end face. • Mass production friendly • Polish process required for a conventional MPO is not needed. • All optics in a straight path can make the alignment easy. • No special equipment is required for production. • Easy material management. • Simplex design, no gender, no conventional guide pins.

The ratio of renewable electricity at domestic tire plants will be increased to approximately 42%*2. Bridgestone will continue to reduce CO2 emissions by expanding renewable energy use, improving tire production energy efficiency, and installing new solar power generation systems in all the domestic tire factories through 2030. Bridgestone Group is moving ahead with Sustainability Business Framework through the implementation of its Mid Term Business Plan (2021 - 2023)*3 that aims to realize its vision to provide social value and customer value as a sustainable solutions company toward 2050. The Sustainability Business Framework is designed to contribute to realizing resource circulation, CO2 reduction, a circular economy and carbon neutrality throughout its businesses. Description

Miscellaneous Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Volkswagen Group (Germany) continues switch to low-emission logistics with LNG ships For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 43 Volkswagen is the first automaker to transport most of its new vehicles overseas using low-emission LNG ships. After the first two LNG car carriers entered service in 2020, Volkswagen Group Logistics has now ordered four more ships with dual-fuel engines that can be powered with environmentally friendly liquid gas. They should be traveling the world’s oceans by the end of 2023, serving the North American route between Emden in Germany and Veracruz in Mexico. On the return trip, the LNG ships will transport new vehicles destined for Europe. Soon, six of the nine car carriers crossing the North Atlantic for Volkswagen will be powered by LNG. The further decarbonization of shipping will result in substantial CO2 reductions, with the use of liquid gas enabling Volkswagen to cut the ships’ CO2 emissions by up to 25 percent (tank-to-wake). “In line with the Group’s commitment to e-mobility and climate-neutral production, the LNG fleet used by Logistics represents a major contribution to making Volkswagen net carbon neutral by 2050,” says Simon Motter, Head of Volkswagen Group Logistics. Volkswagen was one of the first car manufacturers to subscribe to the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement that aim to limit global warming to significantly less than two degrees by 2050. The Volkswagen Group has therefore committed to e-mobility as well as to the sustainable production and use of new electric vehicles. The company follows the principle of focusing first on the avoidance of CO2 emissions and then on reducing emissions as far as possible. Only unavoidable emissions are offset by climate protection measures. Description
